The security personnel may theoretically be cleared for that classification but they would not have a "need to know" the information contained within AND video surveillance visible in another area would defy the measures taken to keep the information in a secure room. However, a simple device to lock out the keyboard, of any other I/O devices or ports, when there was no authorised operator officially present, would be simple to implement, very efficient, and pose zero potential for information leakage.

Watch Tom Cruise Roll a Fiat 500 in ‘Mission: Impossible’

The director Christopher McQuarrie discusses a chase scene involving the star and Hayley Atwell in ‘Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One’

  • Share full article

‘Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One' | Anatomy of a Scene

Christopher mcquarrie narrates a scene from the film, featuring tom cruise and hayley atwell..

“I am Christopher McQuarrie, the director and one of the writers and producers of ‘Mission — Impossible Dead Reckoning Part One.’” [MUSIC PLAYING] “What are we doing?” “Finding us a new car.” “The inspiration for this sequence actually occurred to me during the shooting of ‘Mission — Impossible Fallout’ when I was scouting locations for the chase scene in Paris. And I came across a little Fiat 500 that was parked along the Seine River. And I thought it would be great, the idea of watching Ethan Hunt and Tom Cruise driving in a car like that. When I pitched this idea to Tom, he immediately appreciated the notion of doing a car chase that involved more humor than any of the sequences we had done previously, and he really leaned into that. Something to watch during this sequence is the behavior between Tom Cruise and Haley Atwell. You’re looking at two actors performing in two-shots, meaning you don’t have any editorial control. It’s not like I can pick the best moments of each actor. I have to really be giving you their best at the exact same time. And what it really does is it creates an affinity for these two characters. The most important part about this sequence is not really the action. It’s the feeling of a relationship developing between two people who actually don’t want to be together. And this car chase is all about creating circumstances whereby they are forced together, and over the course of a sequence, you feel them turning into a team. Rome is a very tricky place to shoot. The Fiat is a very difficult car to drive. And obviously, it’s very difficult to drive that car with handcuffs, let alone on cobblestone streets which make all of the driving, everything that you see Tom doing, becomes completely unpredictable. And what you end up with is a sequence where the car almost has a mind of its own. It becomes a character in the sequence along with Haley’s hair, as you can see there. In this part of the sequence, we ended up on the Spanish Steps. We were allowed to shoot at the Spanish Steps with the understanding that we never could actually physically touch the Spanish Steps. But so long as we never touched the Spanish Steps, we could do whatever we want. So what we did is we built the Spanish Steps in three sections on a backlot so that we could drive cars down them. And everything that Tom and Haley are doing here is extremely difficult, extremely punishing. The car doesn’t have really great suspension. So the riding down the steps is very jarring. And we got into this bit here with the cars rolling over we did in three sections. One, Tom drove down the steps. Then we had a bunch of grips roll a car down the steps with no one in it. And then, finally, we built a padded interior for the two actors to actually roll down the steps with the cameras rolling.”

Ethan Hunt has found himself in many elaborate car chases throughout the “Mission: Impossible” franchise. But while the stunts have gotten bigger, this time, the car has gotten smaller.

In “Dead Reckoning Part One,” a Fiat 500 becomes the star of a sequence set in Rome involving Ethan (Tom Cruise) and Grace (Hayley Atwell). The two find themselves handcuffed to each other as Ethan gets behind the wheel of their tiny getaway vehicle.

Narrating the scene, the director Christopher McQuarrie said the inspiration for it occurred to him when he was scouting locations in Paris for a chase sequence in “Mission: Impossible — Fallout” and came across a Fiat 500 parked along the Seine.

“I thought it would be great, the idea of watching Ethan Hunt and Tom Cruise driving in a car like that,” he said.

This scene includes more humorous moments than the series’ previous car chases. And it involves Cruise having to navigate the Fiat around cobblestone streets, which the actor did himself.

A climactic moment in the scene involves the Spanish Steps, when the Fiat bumbles its way right down the monument.

The production was not allowed to let cars actually touch the steps, so they built a replica of the landmark on a backlot and tumbled the vehicle down there.

Watch Tom Cruise Run Through All Seven ‘Mission: Impossible’ Movies in New Video

It’s the fastest way to travel if you're a movie star.

Moviegoers are just a week away from the latest Mission: Impossible film, Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One . The epic action adventure continues the crazy story of Ethan Hunt played by Tom Cruise . There have been so many iconic action set pieces over the years that have blown audiences away. However, one of the simplest things Cruise has down throughout this ambitious franchise is arguably the most enjoyable to watch. That would be seeing the world’s biggest movie star run. He’s sprinted his way through all six films and, to mark Dead Reckoning Part One ’s explosive release, Paramount has released a hilariously lengthy compilation of every time Cruise has run on his deadly missions.

The ten-minute video covers all six previously released films . This obviously includes the original Mission: Impossible , M: I 2 , M: I 3 , Ghost Protocol , Rogue Nation , and Fallout . While it’s become a meme to point out how many times Ethan Hunt has gone rogue and been forced to literally run , Cruise honestly has one of the best running forms in all of Hollywood. If you have a track background, it’s hard not to admire the actor's commitment to his craft. Again Ethan has been on the run so many times that it’s funny to think how the famous spy would fare at the Olympics or the local IMF track meet. He would at least get a gold medal for effort. Especially since running through injuries, like the one Cruise sustained on Fallout , hasn’t been an issue. Don’t challenge this man to race because you’ll regret it as he’s running laps around you.

What’s Dead Reckoning About?

Dead Reckoning Part One will see Ethan Hunt and his Impossible Mission Force (IMF) team on the chase for a dangerous bioweapon that could threaten humanity’s very existence. However, this isn’t any old race as ghosts from Ethan’s past come back to haunt him. This puts the lives of his self-made family at risk, which has his loyal team questioning his intentions on the mission itself. The choices Ethan makes in Dead Reckoning could have some costly consequences and shakes up the franchise forever if he’s not too careful. Along with a more weighty story, the new film is upping the insane stunts which include Cruise driving a motorcycle off a cliff and a sequence that made the actor take up one of the most dangerous sports in the world, Speedflying . Of course; there will also be lots of running.

Watch: tom cruise's 90 second 'mission: impossible' franchise recap.

by Alex Billington February 11, 2024 Source: Twitter

Tom Cruise - Mission Impossible

"Light the fuse…" Paramount+ has revealed a Super Bowl TV spot for the Mission: Impossible movies . Our guess is that this was originally meant to be a big preview for Mission: Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part Two , which was set to release in June 2024 following Part One last summer. Thanks to the strikes last year, that sequel has been delayed for another year entirely - and they aren't calling it " Dead Reckoning Part Two " anymore either. We'll have to wait for an update on this one - which is expected around May 2025 now. In the meantime, it looks like they kept this airtime and made this Mission: Impossible franchise recap video instead. Tom Cruise's account tweeted out the video with this amusing note: "It's hard to put all 7 films into 90 seconds , but we certainly had fun trying." This 90-second video features a few of the most iconic stunts: the Burj Khalifa, the airplane, the motorcycle cliff, the train in the tunnel, and a few others, but not all of them. It's much more focused on all the action than story! I'm still hopeful that the 8th movie will end up being awesome, too. So what do you think: is this really the greatest action franchise of all-time?

Here's the 2024 Super Bowl TV spot for Tom Cruise's Mission: Impossible movies, direct from YouTube :

For another franchise recap enjoy the official Tom Cruise Running in Mission: Impossible Since 1996 video .

In Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, Ethan Hunt (Cruise) and his IMF team embark on their most dangerous mission yet: To track down a terrifying new weapon that threatens all of humanity before it falls into the wrong hands. With control of the future and the fate of the world at stake, and dark forces from Ethan's past closing in, a deadly race around the globe begins. Confronted by a mysterious, all-powerful enemy, Ethan is forced to consider that nothing can matter more than his mission – not even the lives of those he cares about most. Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One is again directed by American filmmaker Christopher McQuarrie , director of the movies The Way of the Gun , Jack Reacher , plus both Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation & Fallout previously. The screenplay is also by Christopher McQuarrie. Based on the television series created by Bruce Geller. Produced by Tom Cruise, J.J. Abrams, Christopher McQuarrie, David Ellison, and Jake Myers. Paramount Pictures already released McQuarrie's Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning in theaters worldwide on July 12th, 2023 last summer. ( Rewatch the first teaser trailer . ) The follow-up Mission Impossible 8 has been rescheduled to launch in May 2025 .

Mission impossible 8 set photos & video show tom cruise bloodied & running.

New photos and videos of the Mission: Impossible 8 set show Tom Cruise back in action as Ethan Hunt, with the star shown bloody and running.

  • New footage from the set of Mission: Impossible 8 shows Tom Cruise sprinting with blood on his clothes.
  • The scenes are being filmed in London, with one image showing a heavy military presence around Big Ben.
  • Mission: Impossible 8 has now filmed in locations including South Africa, the Arctic, and the Aegean Sea.

Mission: Impossible 8 star Tom Cruise is back as Ethan Hunt in new photos and videos from the movie's set. The end of Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning sets up an even bigger mission for Hunt, with the super spy and his team continuing their quest to take down the rogue AI known as the Entity. Franchise veteran Christopher McQuarrie is directing the upcoming sequel, which is expected to hit theaters next spring.

As the wait for the Mission: Impossible 8 release date continues, Navy shares new photos and videos from the set, showing Cruise sprinting and with blood on his clothes. The footage, which is available at the link above, shows the production underway in London by Big Ben, with the city having now appeared in several installments in the franchise. The context of the scene being filmed is not yet clear, but one photo shows a heavy military presence by the iconic London landmark.

What To Expect From Mission: Impossible 8

Where the dead reckoning sequel has filmed so far.

While the upcoming installment in the action franchise was originally going to be called Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 2 , the underperformance of Part 1 at the box office reportedly led to a bit of a re-think for the sequel . So far, it's not clear whether the changes to the sequel go beyond its title (no replacement title has yet been revealed), but filming on the project has now been ongoing, on and off, for at least two years. Production was also hampered last year with the onset of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.

So far, filming reports have revealed that, like previous installments, Mission: Impossible 8 's story will be a globe-trotting one. The movie has so far filmed in various spots across the U.K., South Africa, the Arctic, and on an aircraft carrier in the Aegean Sea . The filming in South Africa involved Cruise clutching onto a small biplane as it flies upside down, while the filming in the Arctic suggests the movie will feature a trip to the Sevastopol submarine, which was sunk under the ice caps of the Bering Sea.

McQuarrie teased last year in an interview with Collider that Mission: Impossible 8 will feature underwater stunts that beat those in Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation .

Many Mission: Impossible 7 cast members are expected to return for the new movie, including Simon Pegg as Benji, Ving Rhames as Luther, and Haley Atwell as Grace. Rebecca Ferguson, however, is not expected to return as Isla after the character's death in the most recent sequel, but newcomers include Nick Offerman and Hannah Waddingham. While many questions remain about Mission: Impossible 8 , the latest photos and videos confirm it will feature the return of Cruise's iconic run.

Mission: Impossible 8

Mission: Impossible 8 is the direct sequel to Dead Reckoning - Part One and is the eighth film in the Mission: Impossible franchise. Said to be the final film, Tom Cruise, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, and more will reprise their roles in Ethan Hunt's IMF team as they face off against a dangerous foe from their past.

Tom Cruise just performed his most dangerous stunt yet – riding a motorcycle off a cliff and BASE jumping

By Caitlin O'Kane

December 21, 2022 / 10:00 AM EST / CBS News

Tom Cruise has performed another daring stunt for the "Mission: Impossible" film series.

He called this one the most dangerous thing he's ever attempted. Shot in Norway, the stunt required Cruise to ride a motorcycle off a cliff and BASE jump — something he said he's wanted to do since he was a kid.

Cruise, 60, is currently working on the two-part "Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning" film. He's known for performing his own stunts, but this one took years to plan, he said in a video shared on Twitter.

So excited to share what we’ve been working on. #MissionImpossible pic.twitter.com/rIyiLzQdMG — Tom Cruise (@TomCruise) December 19, 2022

In the video, writer and director Christopher McQuarrie said Cruise put together a "master plan" using experts to help execute the stunt.

He had a year of sky diving training, during which he was doing 30 jumps a day – more than 500 skydives, said Wade Eastwood, the film's stunt coordinator. He also had motocross training, doing over 13,000 motocross jumps. Once he got those skills down, the production team created 3D models to try and predict how Cruise would fly through the air during the stunt so they could film it.

Then, it came time for Cruise to execute the stunt — driving a motorcycle up a long ramp, which lead to a cliff, launching off of it and BASE jumping to the bottom. Cruise first jumped out of a helicopter over the cliff to practice, before attempting the full stunt for the cameras.

screen-shot-2022-12-21-at-9-31-03-am.png

"The only things you have to avoid while doing a stunt like this are serious injury or death," BASE jumping coach Miles Daisher said. "You're riding a motorcycle, which is pretty dangerous, on top of a ramp that's elevated off the ground, so if you fall off the ramp, that's pretty bad. You're falling, so if you don't get a clean exit from the bike and you get tangled up with it, or if you don't open your parachute, you're not going to make it."

The behind-the-scenes video show Cruise not only execute the stunt once, but six times in one day.

"Pretty much the biggest stunt in cinematic history," said BASE jumping coach John DeVore. Viewers can see the final product when part one of the film premieres July 2023. The "Mission: Impossible" series is from Paramount Pictures. (Paramount is also the parent company of CBS.)

Cruise has performed countless hair-raising stunts, including jumping off of scaffolding while filming "Mission: Impossible 6" in —  a stunt that left him injured and limping.

Cruise has been in Europe filming the seventh and eight "Mission: Impossible" films for several years. The seventh movie was scheduled to premiere in November 2021, but the COVD-19 pandemic shut down production and was pushed to May 27, 2022,  according to Variety . The date was pushed several time after that, and the film will now premier next year.

While shooting in the U.K. last year, Cruise, who was traveling by helicopter, needed a place to land,  BBC News reports.  He ended up landing in a family's backyard, and then let their kids go for a ride in the helicopter, making headlines.

Tom Cruise's Most Daring 'Mission: Impossible' Stunts

Tom Cruise famously does nearly all of his own stunts throughout the "Mission: Impossible" series and is constantly finding ways to elevate them to new levels.

In "Mission: Impossible 2" (2000), he free-solo climbed on camera, a stunt which was originally supposed to be done by a professional climber. In "Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol" (2011), Cruise climbed on the side of the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, which is the world's tallest building. For the action scenes in "Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation" (2015), he clung to the side of an airplane flying 1,000 feet in the air and then trained alongside costar Rebecca Ferguson to hold his breath underwater for an extended period of time.

In "Mission: Impossible — Fallout" (2018), he performed a HALO jump on camera from 25,000 feet in the air, trained 16 hours a day to fly a helicopter, and then rode a motorcycle at up to 100 mph in Paris.

In the latest installment, "Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One" (2023), Cruise's stunts involve a motorbike jump off a mountain, a one-handed car chase while handcuffed to actor Hayley Atwell, intense fight choreography in Venice's narrow alleyways, and a fight scene on top of a moving train.

Tom Cruise Creates His Own ‘Trafalgar Square’ Tube Station Filming Mission: Impossible in London

The actor was pictured filming scenes for the eighth 'Mission: Impossible' movie in the British capital on April 28

Tom Cruise has taken over the streets of London!

On Sunday, April 28, the actor, 61, was photographed filming scenes for the next Mission: Impossible movie in the British capital outside an invented Tube station called 'Trafalgar Square.'

Cruise shut down the real Trafalgar Square for the shoot as he was seen coming in and out of the London Underground station while surrounded by crowds of extras.

Off camera, the action star appeared in happier spirits as he chatted to members of the crew in between takes.

The eighth installment in the Mission: Impossible franchise is set for a May 23, 2025 release. According to Deadline , the release was delayed by a year due to the SAG-AFTRA strike , which ended in November 2023.

Cruise returns to the franchise as protagonist Ethan Hunt, along with director and longtime collaborative partner Christopher McQuarrie.

The actor was spotted filming more adrenaline-fueled scenes for the action movie in London last month.

On March 24, the American Made star was photographed sprinting down a street in the capital wearing a black suit with an unbuttoned white shirt covered in fake blood.

Last summer, Cruise returned to the big screen in the seventh film in the franchise, Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning .

The film made $172 million at the domestic box office and earned the franchise its first Oscars nominations for Best Visual Effects and Best Sound at the 96th Academy Awards earlier this year.

Meanwhile, Cruise is reportedly set to appear in another sequel of his movies for the third Top Gun film , following the huge success of the second installment, Top Gun: Maverick , released in 2022.

In January, The Hollywood Reporter reported that Paramount is developing the sequel with co-writer Ehren Kruger, with Joe Kosinski set to direct. According to the outlet, the film will see Cruise return in his role as Pete Mitchell, alongside his Maverick costars Glen Powell and Miles Teller .

Tom Cruise Spotted in Leaked Footage On Set of New Mission: Impossible

  • Oops! Something went wrong. Please try again later. More content below

We already know Mission Impossible 8 adds a Severance actor to the cast . Now Tom Cruise has been spotted in leaked footage from the set.

The video, which was posted to Twitter by an onlooker, sees Cruise navigating a heaving crowd of extras in a location said to be standing in for London’s Trafalgar Square.

In it, he meets Simon Pegg’s character Benny and embraces him before blending back into the crowd.

Behind them are police officers wielding heavy duty weapons. It looks like the film will include some some of march or protest, although for now it's up to interpretation. Watch the footage below.

And it’s not the only footage that’s leaked from the Mission: Impossible set. The tweet below sees Cruise wondering alone through a throng of angry protestors.

Director Christopher McQuarrie then appears halfway through and says something to Cruise. Cruise returns to his mark and does the scene again. Watch that below.

Following on from Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning , the film will continue Cruise’s hunt for Gabriel, a terrorist working with an all-powerful AI system called the Entity to rule the world.

Maybe that’s why everyone in the footage above is so upset.

  • Fans share excitement over Tom Cruise running in London for Mission: Impossible 8 .
  • Action-packed scenes feature Cruise sprinting to save the world from rogue AI, captivating audiences globally.
  • Mission: Impossible 8 plot remains a mystery, but it will likely continue the story with The Entity and familiar faces.

Hollywood icon Tom Cruise is back to doing what he does best, running, as the actor films scenes for the action sequel Mission: Impossible 8 in London, England. Fans of the actor and the franchise have now taken to Twitter/X to share images, footage, and their thoughts on Cruise’s running, which somehow remains one of the most gripping elements of modern blockbuster moviemaking.

You can check out the visual poetry that is Tom Cruise running below, as well as some thoughts and feelings shared by fans who cannot wait to see him run all over the world once again in Mission: Impossible 8 .

Several images of the actor sprinting either away or towards the latest global threat have also emerged, and offer our first look at the next Mission: Impossible sequel, which was formerly titled Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two before changes were made behind the scenes .

Released in July last year, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning is directed by Christopher McQuarrie from a screenplay he co-wrote with Erik Jendresen. The Mission: Impossible follow-up finds Tom Cruise back as Ethan Hunt, who this time must save the world from a rogue AI known as “The Entity.” You can check out the official synopsis and trailer for Mission: Impossible: Dead Reckoning below.

“Ethan Hunt and his IMF team embark on their most dangerous mission yet: to track down a terrifying new weapon that threatens all of humanity before it falls into the wrong hands. With the fate of the world at stake, a deadly race around the globe begins. Confronted by a mysterious, all-powerful enemy, Ethan is forced to consider that nothing can matter more than his mission – not even the lives of those he cares about most.”

What Will Mission: Impossible 8 Be About?

It is currently unknown exactly what Mission: Impossible 8 will be about but, considering that movies 7 and 8 were initially intended to be a two-parter, we can no doubt expect the next movie to carry over some of the plot elements from its predecessor. This likely includes both the AI enemy known as The Entity , and the villainous Gabriel (Esai Morales), a terrorist with ties to Ethan Hunts's past. We can also expect to see the core cast return, including Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt, Ving Rhames as Luther Stickell, and Simon Pegg as Benji Dunn, as well as newcomer Hayley Atwell as Grace.

How the Mission: Impossible Title Change Could Save the Franchise

The rest of the ensemble will reportedly include Henry Czerny as Eugene Kittridge, Vanessa Kirby as Alanna Mitsopolis, Pom Klementieff as Paris, and Shea Whigham as Jasper Briggs, alongside Holt McCallany, Nick Offerman, Janet McTeer, Hannah Waddingham, and Lucy Tulugarjuk. Following the apparent fate of Ilsa Faust , it is currently unknown whether Rebecca Ferguson will be involved.

Mission: Impossible 8 is scheduled to be released in the United States on May 23, 2025, by Paramount Pictures.

The action hero "hired hawks" to film his shots without any obstacles.

Major details about Mission: Impossible 8 have already been revealed to fans through several behind-the-scenes images, videos and information. Production on Tom Cruise’s upcoming and presumably final film as the legendary action hero Ethan Hunt has been ongoing for a while. In recent months, the 61-year-old actor was spotted many times in the UK. Cruise was reportedly seen filming a scene in Trafalgar Square when pigeons hampered his thrilling sequences. Given that there are three million pigeons in London, a source informed The Sun that Tom devised an unusual approach to keep them away from the scene.

According to reports, the action hero “hired hawks,” which are birds of prey, to keep pigeons out of his suspenseful scenes.

“It was a clever move and meant the scenes were filmed without a hitch,” the insider explained.

Professional falconers were there with the birds of prey, ready to step in if the pigeons ventured out.

Tanks and armoured cars were stationed in the popular tourist area, as shown in photos taken when Tom was filming the spy movie, The Sun reported.

Along with building a brand-new Trafalgar Square Tube station, his crew also hired hundreds of extras to act as troops, the report added.

Following the July release of Dead Reckoning Part One, the unnamed movie, which is most likely going to be dubbed Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two, is slated for release on May 23, 2025.

Mission: Impossible 8 was intended to be released this summer but it was subsequently postponed owing to the Hollywood writers’ strike.

Production on the eighth feature was originally delayed to allow the cast to promote Part One, but then the strike occurred, creating more delays.

Christopher McQuarrie, a veteran franchise filmmaker and collaborator with Cruise, is directing Mission: Impossible 8. McQuarrie has penned the scripts for several of the biggest action films in Cruise’s career, including Edge of Tomorrow and Top Gun: Maverick. Based on the same-titled 1966 television series, the Mission: Impossible film series debuted in 1996.

In addition to Tom, Simon Pegg, Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Pom Klementieff and Vanessa Kirby will also make a comeback in the eighth instalment.

Tom tried to make Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One last longer, but it did not do as well as the other films in the series at the box office.

TOM Cruise hired hawks to keep pesky pigeons off the set of Mission: Impossible 8.

The star wanted the feral flappers cleared from London’s Trafalgar Square while he shot scenes where his character Ethan Hunt faces a riot.

Handlers brought in the birds of prey and put them on standby to ward off the pigeons .

A source said: “It was a clever move and meant the scenes were filmed without a hitch.”

London is home to three million pigeons and thousands blight the Square every day.

Harris hawks and Peregrine Falcons have long been used to deter them from flocking to certain areas in London.

Portcullis House, the home of some MPs’ offices in Westminster, St Paul’s Cathedral and the Millennium Bridge have all used the hawks, which are a popular species in falconry.

Photographs of Tom , 61, filming the spy film showed a tank and armoured vehicles parked up in the tourist hotspot.

His team also created a new Trafalgar Square Tube station and enlisted hundreds of extras to play soldiers.

The untitled film, a sequel to last year’s Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One , is set for release in May 2025.
