Arnaud Démare (Groupama-FDJ) won the bunch sprint on stage 7 of Tour de Pologne in Krakow on Friday, while a safe finish in that big group confirmed Ethan Hayter (Ineos Grenadiers) as the overall winner in the general classification.
Hayter took the lead in the stage 6 individual time trial with a thin 11-second advantage over Thymen Arensman (Team DSM) and faced little challenge as the day-long breakaway absorbed any bonus seconds available mid-stage. Arensman locked in second on GC at the end of the 177.8km final stage and Pello Bilbao (Bahrain Victorious) held on to third at 18 seconds.
The 23-year-old Ineos rider became the first-ever British leader of the Tour de Pologne in its history of 92 years and 79 editions and on Friday clinched his first-ever WorldTour stage race overall victory.
As for the stage 7 frantic sprint in Krakow that was won by Démare, who sewed up the points classification, stage 1 winner Olav Kooij (Jumbo-Visma) finished second and stage 5 winner Phil Bauhaus (Bahrain Victorious) was third.

The 2022 Tour de Pologne, the only WorldTour race in Poland, will embark on its 79th edition on July 30 in Kielce, the capital of the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship, and conclude in Kraków’s Blonia on August 5.
The opening three days of racing offer long, hilly routes, each stage more than 200 kilometres, with stage 3 culminating with a spectacular incline with gradients reaching 15% in the city centre of Prezemyśl. Stage 4 is a mountain day with three second-category climbs while stage 5 provides a pair of third-category climbs.
The penultimate stage is a demanding 15.4km uphill time trial finishing at Ski station Rusiński. The grand finale of the seven-day race returns to Krakow, but this time begins in Skawina at the headquarters of Valsir for 180 kilometres, which heads south for a loop across back-to-back KOM climbs, then swoops back through Skawina to four finishing circuits in Kraków.
All the UCI WorldTour teams will compete in Poland. They will be joined by the Polish National Team and top-ranked ProTeam Alpecin-Deceuninck, while wildcard spots were secured by Caja Rural-Seguros RGA of Spain, Uno-X Pro Cycling of Norway and Team Novo Nordisk of the United States.
The 2021 champion was João Almeida, who is expected to return with his new team UAE Team Emirates. The 2016 Tour de Pologne champion Tim Wellens has been confirmed, racing for Lotto Soudal.

The 2022 Tour de Pologne will kick off in Kielce for the first time, beginning with a 218.8-kilometre likely sprint stage to Lublin. The second day is very hilly from Chełm to Zamość, where the route will finish with circuits. Stage 3 is the longest day of the race at 237.9 kilometres. It is a major challenge with the terrain taking in three climbs in the final 30km, with double-digit gradients on the final of the trio before the finish in Prezemyšl.
The climbing continues on stage 4 through the Sanok-Turczan mountains with 179.4km from Lesko to Sanok. Stage 5 is similar in length, 178k, and throws in a steep climb 12km from the finish in Rzeszów.
An uphill time trial comes on stage 6, handing the riders a challenge of 415 metres of elevation gain in just 15.4km to the finish at the Bukovina Resort. The race concludes with a hilly 177km in Kraków that should likely end in a sprint.
Tour de Pologne history
The Tour de Pologne was first held in 1928 and then returned sporadically. It became a staple on the calendar in 1952 and has run uninterrupted since. Now in its 22nd edition as a WorldTour event, the race returns to its traditional slot between the Tour de France and the Vuelta a España.
Between 1928 and 2000, the majority of the winners were Polish, with only six riders from outside the host country taking GC honours in that time. Since 2001, however, only one Polish rider, Michal Kwiatkowski has won the title.

PREVIEW | Tour de Pologne 2023 stage 6 - Final time-trial to decide overall classification, battle between Mohoric, Almeida and Kwiatkowski
Preview . Stage 6 of the Tour de Pologne is the queen stage. The hilly days saw little gaps, and the overall classification will be decided in a 16.8-kilometer time-trial.
The most likely decisive stage in this year's race could be the time-trial. Katowice hosts a different type of stage this year, a 16.8-kilometer challenge against the clock but one that promises differences and also an opportunity for the specialists- specially as it comes with one week to the time-trial World Championships.
Start Times & Order - Tour de Pologne 2023 stage 6 time-trial
The route is quite different than what you'd expect from a time-trial. It is mostly flat however technical. Early in the route there are good sections to put down the power, but then the last two third include quite a few sections with breaking and accelerations involved. Quite a few, definitely not a constant effort, it can mix things up on the day.
2023 Tour de Pologne Prize Money Distribution - €40.980 in total
The Weather
As it has been throughout the whole week, the riders will find strong southwestern wind. Here however it won't likely much of a difference, there are plenty direction changes and it's a technical time-trial, without much of a long distance.
Profiles & Route Tour de Pologne 2023
The Favourites
Tobias Foss - The World Champion, however not the main favourite. In no way actually, Foss has done some decent time-trials this year but nothing like his Wollongong performance. If he got that on the day he can win, even if not he has good chances of being at the top however, he hasn't battled for the GC.
Stefan Bissegger - Bissegger is on paper the rider who came here with the highest ambitions on the time-trial. The route suits him well and with the world championships right at the door he has the need to show his very best legs. He only performed at the Tour de Suisse this year, with a modest field he has the chances to win here.
TV Guide - Where and when to watch Tour de Pologne 2023
We've got a few more riders who have not gone all out in the GC fight, may have the chance to fight for a result here. It's a flat time-trial so it's hard to surprise but there is no man to beat. Geraint Thomas , Thymen Arensman and Lennard Kämna will hope to show good form, whilst the likes of Matteo Sobrero, Josef Cerny and Michael Hepburn may have that extra edge to go for the win tomorrow.
GC battle - The time-trial is the decisive day, the hilly stages only created a selection between those who are able to fight for the win. Matej Mohoric starts the day ahead, 12 seconds of João Almeida , 16 on Rafal Majka , 18 on Michal Kwiatkowski and 26 on the following chasers. The Slovenian has the physique and engine to be a premium time-trialist but it's not a specialty. In 2023 he hasn't done a single competitive time-trial too... In 2022 however he did a few performances where he could defend himself, and he does have a little lead.
The time-trial is technical and this can save him. It's almost pan-flat and so João Almeida won't be able to really profit from the terrain. He will be the main favourite however, Michal Kwiatkowski, the country's TT national champion, also has chances of winning the race. Samuele Battistella , 26 seconds away, a podium contender, whilst Ilan van Wilder may not have good legs after today's crash whilst the rest of the riders will try to save their positions as best as possible. Brandon McNulty starts in 14th spot and may move into the Top5, Mattia Cattaneo also eyeing a climb in the GC.
"This victory is special" - Marijn van den Berg over the moon with stage win at Tour de Pologne
Prediction Tour de Pologne 2023 stage 6:
*** Stefan Bissegger, João Almeida ** Michal Kwiatkowski, Tobias Foss, Geraint Thomas * Matteo Sobrero, Lennard Kämna, Brandon McNulty, Josef Cerny, Samuele Battistella,
Pick : Stefan Bissegger

- Description
- Information
This year the Tour de Pologne celebrates three anniversaries: 95 years since its foundation, the 80th edition of the race and 30 years of the Lang Team. To mark the occasion, the organizers have designed an unprecedented route running through the west of Poland. The now traditional seven stages will be as follows: one time trial stage, two mountain stages, two stages for sprinters and two hilly stages where both classic riders and riders aiming for the general classification will be able to compete. All the ingredients for a great spectacle that will set Poland’s roads ablaze from 29th July to 4th August.
On 4 August the peloton will cover almost 167 kilometres from Zabrze to Kraków, where the race traditionally ends. The finish line will be in Kraków’s Błonia after the riders have completed three laps of the circuit on the city’s streets. Before arriving in Kraków, there will be the LOTTO Intermediate Finish in Wilamowice, the cat-3 PZU KOMs in Witanowice and Kaszów, and the Special Sprint SOUDAL – 95 Years of the Tour de Pologne in Budzyń. Finally, the podium ceremony for the protagonists of the 80th Tour de Pologne will take place in Krakow’s Błonia.
Last year it was British rider Ethan Hayter, Ineos Grenadiers, who won the general classification ahead of Dutchman Thymen Arensman and Spaniard Pello Bilbao.

Błonia Common (besides the Vistula embankments and Planty Garden Ring) is the locals’ favourite place for walking and relaxing among nature. Covering 48 ha (120 acres), the Common is just 15 minutes’ walk from the Main Market Square. For centuries it served mostly as pasture until the Cracovia Hotel opened in 1965, and cow grazing was banned. Currently, it is a popular place for festivals, meetings, and concerts. The expanse commands a beautiful view of the Lasek Wolski Forest and the Kościuszko Mound. Situated within it are the Józef Piłsudski Memorial Boulder and the Papal Stone, commemorating great Poles.
Initially, the Błonia Common was a property of the Premonstratensian Order, yet in 1366 the nuns did a swap with the city, exchanging the meadow in return for a mansion on ul. Floriańska. The building burned down a few years after the transaction, thus starting a controversy between the order and the City Council that lasted for centuries. Dissatisfied with the unfortunate transaction, the Premonstratensians tried to regain the Błonia, appealing to the king and the Pope. All in vain, however. The great pasture, which Błonia was, remained a property of the city, and the order had to make do with cinders. Between Focha, 3 Maja, and Piastowska streets, generally accessible
