ZODIAC TOURS
On the Zodiac we are able to cover large areas of the glacier lagoon and get closer to the icebergs than on the amphibian. When possible the Zodiac goes almost all the way up to the glacier (as close as safe).
AMPHIBIAN BOAT TOURS
We offer exciting boat trips on the glacier lagoon in one of our four amphibian boats. During the excursion you sail among the huge icebergs in the picturesque scenery of Jökulsárlón.
ICE CAVE TOURS
Join us on an exciting two and a half-hour adventure exploring the wonders of Vatnajökull Glacier. Our luxurious Iceland tours will take you to the largest glacier in Europe.
We do about 40 trips a day during high season (1.July–31. August) Outside the peak season the trips are still quite frequent. Note that the last amphibian boat tour departs about one hour before closing time.

Testimonials
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”
“Once you travelled, the voyage never ends, but is played out over and over again in the quietest chambers. The mind can never break off from the journey.”

Vatnajökull ice cave tour with glacier hike – faq in 2023.
If clients cancel their tour more than 48 hours prior to departure, a 100% refund will be given (There might be some costs that the credit card company charges for the refund). If clients cancel their tour within 48 hours of departure, Glacier Trips reserves the right to no refund.
Note. We repay 100% of the fee if the weather conditions do not allow the trip, but we don’t repay the fee if the client is late or doesn’t show up, even if the weather is very bad, in case we are able to do the trip. So we recommend staying in a hotel or guesthouse east of Skaftafell in Vatnajokull National Park, and close to or in Höfn.
We offer two options for Ice cave tours.
The shorter tour: Inside the largest glacier ⦁ We drive on a super jeep for about 30 minutes (Each way) ⦁ We walk for about 25-35 minutes to the glacier (Each way) ⦁ We spend about 35-45 minutes in and around the Ice cave ⦁ The tour takes about 3 – 3.5 hours in total ⦁ Price 21.900 ISK

More about the Tour
We start the tour by driving along the coast to Eystrahorn. Lesser-known than their Western counterpart of Vestrahorn, these gabbro mountains are incredibly steep and beautifully coloured. The surrounding area of Lonafjordur is one of the first stops for migratory birds that have flown thousands of miles and is known for its rich birdlife.
We continue through the tunnel to South Iceland and pass the town of Hofn to drive further west to the Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon.
An outlet glacier of the main Vatnajokull ice cap, the Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon is breathtaking with floating icebergs which have broken off from the Breidamerkurjokull glacier. The lagoon is also home to curious seals and boisterous skuas.
The icebergs are not static and slowly make their way to the sea. We will also visit the black sand beach across the road, which is often strewn with glittering iceberg pieces and affectionately known as “diamond beach”.
Depending on your cruise ship schedule and if you have time, it is possible to add an hour to the tour to enjoy a boat tour amidst the floating icebergs.
Other detour options are lunch in the town of Hofn or the Stokksnes peninsula. Known as the lobster capital of Iceland, Hofn has some fine restaurants as well as a local brewery. The Stokksnes peninsula has great views of the Vestrahorn mountain and also features an abandoned movie set of a Viking village.

We start our day in Reykjavik at 7 am and drive along Iceland's epic South Coast. We will stop at the most beautiful locations and must-see natural attractions. Due to dramatic daylight differences, the number and the order of our stops may vary between summer and winter.
Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon & Diamond beach
Jökulsárlón is a large glacial lagoon (and the deepest lake in Iceland) located at the foot of the Vatnajökull glacier. As the glacier reaches the lowland areas, it retreats and melts, creating a lagoon. The lagoon is filled with giant icebergs that float slowly towards the ocean from the glacier. The icebergs are pretty varied in size and shape. The biggest ones can be as large as 20 to 30 meters. As the glacier "calves" and new icebergs enter the lagoon, it changes its appearance all the time.
The black sand beach where the icebergs are washed ashore by the waves is called the Diamond beach. Together these two attractions are probably the most photographed natural attractions in Iceland. Jökulsarlon has deserved the nickname "the Crown Jewel of Iceland."
Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon and Diamond beach have become world-famous as they have appeared in Hollywood movies such as James Bond, Batman Begins, and Tomb Raider.
Seljalandsfoss is one of Iceland’s most famous waterfalls. It is very photogenic as it plunges over 60m into a shallow pool. The river that feeds Seljalandsfoss originates at the magnificent volcano glacier, Eyjafjallajokull. But the main reason why this cascade is so unique is that you can walk behind the water flow and see the waterfall and the world from a new perspective. Bring your raincoat as you will get wet from the drizzle! (Please note that the path behind the cascade may be closed during winter as it gets too slippery and dangerous.)
With 300 inhabitants, Iceland's southernmost village, Vík í Mýrdal, is the busiest settlement in a 150-km / 39 mi area on the South Coast. This vibrant little place is a typical Icelandic countryside village, with colorful houses, scenic views, and a teeny-tiny church on the top of a hill.
Fjallsárlón lagoon is renowned for the shimmering icebergs that float in its waters. The vivid colors of the ice range from electric blue to crystal clear. Some of the icebergs are streaked with grey, caused by volcanic eruptions.
The icebergs often collide, releasing shuddering groans as they rub against one another. The acrobatic antics of Great Skua seabirds overhead and playful seals in the water make for an incredible show.

Best Ice Cave Tour in Vatnajokull Glacier Starting from Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon
Description
Explore one of Iceland's most amazing attractions with this exciting adventure into a spectacular ice cave in Vatnajokull national park. Travelers looking to discover a natural wonder unlike anything else on earth should not hesitate to book this tour.
Your trip begins at another one of Iceland’s most incredible destinations, the Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon, a vast lake filled with icebergs. From the glacier lagoon car park, you will be picked up by an expert guide in a super jeep. Your destination is Breidamerkurjokull glacier, one of the tongues of the mighty Vatnajokull glacier, which is Europe’s largest glacier.
The monster truck ride from the glacier lagoon into the rugged nature of Vatnajokull national park takes about 30 minutes. Reaching the ice cave is a comfortable half-hour walk, but along a flat gravel surface making it easy to access. This short hike allows you to fully escape all signs of civilization and immerse yourself in incredible landscapes. You’ll be dressed in the necessary safety gear, before being led into this mystical new world.
Ice caves are incredibly rare phenomena that require very specific conditions to form and are only accessible in Iceland during the winter months. The one that has opened this year is larger than in previous years and is so blue that you are sure to get great photos. The diverse shades and the way the light interacts with the ice provide an air of the fantastical.
After about 40 minutes of exploring one of Iceland’s most sought-after attractions, you’ll return to the super jeep and take the beautiful ride back to the Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon.
Make sure not to miss a trip inside a vast blue ice cave on your winter holiday to Iceland. Check availability by choosing a date.

Both amphibian boat tours and zodiac boat tours run on the Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon from May to October every year.
