We make sure all our accessible cabins are nice and close to the Forest Retreat, with plenty of parking space next to your cabin to help things run smoothly. Our wheelchair-adapted cabins are all pet-friendly too!

This cabin on stilts is at the edge of a wooded glen by a stream. It is in a remote location on a 38-acre estate with woods and waterfalls, gorges, caverns and follies. There is no postcode, wifi or electricity … guests roll their luggage to the front door in a wheelbarrow. After that, they’re not exactly roughing it, though: there’s a wood burner, outdoor shower, hot tub and hammocks. Lazy Bear Hideaway, Burton, Cheshire

This off-grid Nordic cabin is in a woodland clearing by a small lake. It is open-plan with a kingsize box-bed, wood burner, easy chairs with sheepskins and a dining table. Guests can also eat on the veranda or at the picnic table on the lawn, and cook in the outdoor kitchen, which has a firepit, barbecue and pizza stone. The bathroom, 100 metres away, has a compost loo and hot shower, and there is a wood-fired hot tub. As well as the woodland on the doorstep, visitors can view the autumn leaves at Burton Wood, Burton Manor Gardens and Ness Botanic Gardens, all within a mile, as is the RSPB’s Burton Mere Wetlands. Halvana Forest Shed, Cornwall

This lodge is encircled by trees in a forested part of Bodmin Moor. The open-plan ground floor has the living, cooking and sleeping areas, and there is a mezzanine lounge level that can sleep two children (not suitable for young children). The porch has a hammock, plus there is a tree swing and a firepit. Deer, badgers and owls can be spotted in the woods, and sheep, cows, chickens and a pony in the owner’s fields. Binoculars are provided for birdwatching and marshmallows for toasting. The nearest pub, the King’s Head, is a mile and a half away. Trees at Tughall, Beadnell, Northumberland

These three cabins are a modern take on Scottish bothies and traditional Northumbrian coastal shacks. They are named after trees: Ash is in ancient woodland and has a tree swing, while Hawthorn and Willow sit between the woods and the burn. The sleek interiors have window seats and wood burners; all have kitchens, kingsize beds and en suites. There is electricity but no wifi. Outside are covered decks with firepits. Norbury Hall, Walcot Hall, Shropshire

Walcot Hall has 30 acres of gardens and parkland, including an arboretum with a huge douglas fir, which was originally planted in 1842. There are 15 holiday cottages and cabins in the grounds – the newest is Norbury Hall, a converted (and relocated) village hall. The interior is clad with sweet-smelling cedar boards from windblown trees on the estate. There is an open-plan kitchen/living area with a wood burner and an Aga; two double bedrooms and a bathroom are on the ground floor, and a twin bedroom with an en suite shower room sits up in the eaves. Crumbleclive Cabin, Lealholm, North York Moors

Built in the 1890s, this cabin was originally a gun room for the local estate. It stands alone in the Crunkly Ghyll, a wooded gorge surrounded by oak trees. From the balcony in the treetops, there is a view of the River Esk rapids below; another decked area has a Swedish bath, barbecue and compost toilet. Inside is a double bed, a wood burner and a projector for watching films. The cabin is the newest of a handful of glamping options on Wild Slack Farm; there is also a campsite with showers about a five-minute walk away. The Drum, near Tarbert, Argyll

The architect-designed Drum – so-called for its elliptical shape – is a striking sight: a black and burnt-orange oval, with a sloping roof and glass doors that open on to the trees and ferns of a woodland estate that has its own castle. There’s a sitting area with a sofa and wood burner, a kitchen-diner, a curved bedroom space with a kingsize bed and a shower room. Outside is a firepit and barbecue – guests can buy fresh seafood from Tarbert, a nearby harbour village. Loch Ken Eco Bothies, Dumfries and Galloway

The Osprey is the latest addition to the Loch Ken Eco Bothies collection: four off-grid retreats on the wooded banks of the loch. The bothies (which are far more luxurious than the name suggests) are on the edge of the Galloway Forest Park, a Dark Sky Park and the biggest forest in the UK. The Osprey, a huge circular cabin, is made from local wood and powered by a solar farm. It has an open-plan living room and kitchen, three double en-suite bedrooms and a mezzanine with a sofa bed. Luxe features include a hanging wood burner, rain showers and a hot tub, and a viewing platform to soak up the autumn colours. It comes with its own boatshed containing a couple of kayaks and a pair of paddleboards, and the bothies are linked to the nearby Galloway Activity Centre, where there are lots more family-friendly activities. Every year, the National Trust refurbishes holiday cottages, cabins and bunkhouses across England, Wales and Northern Ireland. One of its most recently renovated cottages is Yarncliff Lodge on the Longshaw Estate in the Peak District. It has a kitchen/diner, a sitting room with a wood burner, three bedrooms, two bathrooms and a small garden. The cottage backs on to Yarncliff Wood and a short walk away is Padley Gorge, where Burbage Brook rushes over rocks through the ancient woodland. Inside Travelodge’s 600th hotel with ‘next generation’ rooms and new restaurant – and you can stay for £30pp

TRAVELODGE has opened its 600th hotel almost 40 years after launching its first ever budget accommodation in Barton-Under-Needwood.

Cricket fans looking for cheap accommodation could well be bowled over by the latest branch, which has opened its doors at London Oval Cricket Ground.

The milestone was celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, attended by Travelodge Chairman, Martin Robinson, CEO Jo Boydell, ex-England Cricket Captain Alec Stewart OBE, and Surrey County Cricket Club CEO, Steve Elworthy.

The London Oval Cricket Ground Travelodge is a 95-room hotel, and has been developed in partnership with Surrey County Cricket Club.

The hotel is just a minute's walk from Oval Underground Station, ideally located for both business and leisure travellers.

As well as being Travelodge’s 600th hotel, it’s also the 81st one in London.

It features Travelodge's new "premium" look and design, including a redesigned reception area, "next generation rooms" and its new restaurant concept, 85 Bar Cafe.

The restaurants are described online as "a welcoming, comfy, flexible social space where you can relax, linger and enjoy a drink or a bite to eat any time of the day".

They're open 24 hours and serve craft beers, wines, cocktails and offer dedicated dining, working and socialising areas.

The menu has items like stone baked pizzas, freshly made on site to an Italian recipe and burgers alongside healthier options like our wholefood and Cuban flatbread salads.

New Travelodge hotels set to open in the UK in 2024

The hotel at Oval Cricket Ground is the first new opening for Travelodge in the UK this year.

However, there are a further six hotels currently under construction in Rotherham, Colchester and Bristol.

Additionally, there are three more in London being built, namely in Bermondsey, Beckenham and Chiswick.

Construction will also start on a new hotel in Stratford, London later this year. 

The company also has more than 300 target locations for hotel sites across the UK, including over 100 sites across London.

Travelodge welcomes more than 22 million guests annually, and most of them are rated four stars or above on TripAdvisor .

In 2023 approximately 50 per cent of their rooms were sold for less than £60, working out at around £30pp when booked as a double for two.

Sun Online Travel found rooms in the new hotel on the Travelodge website from £60.

Travelodge , the UK’s first budget hotel chain, has opened its 600th hotel – located at London Oval Cricket Ground. The milestone was celebrated at a ribbon-cutting ceremony with Travelodge Chairman, Martin Robinson, CEO Jo Boydell, ex-England Cricket Captain and Surrey County Cricket Club Director, Alec Stewart OBE, and Surrey County Cricket Club CEO, Steve Elworthy.

London Oval Cricket Ground Travelodge is a 95-room hotel, developed in partnership with Surrey County Cricket Club. The hotel is ideally located for both business and leisure travellers, and is just a minute’s walk from Oval Underground Station. As well as being Travelodge’s 600th hotel, it’s also the group’s 81st hotel in London and has created over 30 new jobs.  

London Oval Cricket Ground Travelodge features the group’s new, premium look and feel design which includes a redesigned reception area, next generation rooms and its new restaurant concept, 85 Bar Cafe, offering everything a business or leisure guest (or cricket fan) needs for a comfortable and relaxing stay.

Sustainability has been an important factor when designing the hotel, which has a BREEAM Excellent rating, an Energy Performance Certificate rating of A and a number of sustainable features including; Air Source Heat Pumps for heating water; EV car charging; roof mounted solar PVs to convert the sun’s energy into electricity; green roofs to regulate temperatures and save energy, as well as encouraging biodiversity; low energy lighting throughout the hotel, with motion sensing controls; and aerated showers and taps in the bathrooms to reduce water usage. 

This hotel is the first new opening for Travelodge in the UK this year, with a further six hotels currently under construction in Rotherham, Colchester and Bristol, as well as three more in London; Bermondsey, Beckenham and Chiswick. The group also recently announced it is due to start construction on a new hotel in Stratford, London later this year. 

Travelodge is continuing to develop its UK pipeline and is committed to expanding its hotel network to offer more choice to its customers and support local economies. The group has over 300 target locations for hotel sites across the UK, including over 100 sites across London – which will drive investment and create local jobs.

London Oval Cricket Ground Travelodge is managed by Darren Bennett, who joined Travelodge seven years ago as Assistant Hotel Manager at London Stratford Hotel and has worked in several other Travelodge hotels across London including Waterloo, Covent Garden and most recently as Hotel Manager in London Mile End Travelodge.

Our London Central Southwark is also near the Southbank with just a 12 minute walk, and is just a 2 minute walk down the road from Southwark tube station so you can explore the rest of the city. So, whether it's a museum, a browse round the world's top brands, a world class restaurant or a wander round one of London's best parks, there's a conveniently located Travelodge right where you need to be.

World class shopping can be found at London's two Westfield shopping outlets, in Shepherd's Bush and Stratford. Both of which are within a convenient tube ride or walk from Travelodge Stratford or Travelodge Acton hotels. Some of the capital's most popular museums can also be accessed from the outskirts. Our London Fulham hotel is a great choice for seeing the best of London's museums. The hotel is an 8 minute walk away from Fulham Broadway Station where you can hop on a 10 minute tube ride to South Kensington Station. From there, both the Natural History Museum and the Victoria and Albert Museum are a 4 minute walk away, the Science Museum is a 6 minute walk away, the National Army Museum is a 20 minute walk away.

When the sun is out, a stroll or a picnic in one of London's famous parks is a must. Our London Central Marylebone hotel is a 2 minute walk from Regents Park which is the home to ZSL London Zoo. Our London Finsbury Park hotel is 5 minutes walk away from Finsbury Park and is a 3 minutes walk away from Finsbury Park station. From here, you can take the Victoria line to Highbury and Islington station on the Victoria line, then change to the overground line which will then get you to Hampstead Heath station in 13 minutes. If you want to visit Hyde Park, whether it's for their top seasonal attraction Winter Wonderland, a splash in the lido, or for a stroll around the gallery and Albert Memorial, Travelodge London Covent Garden hotel is the ideal place to stay. From the hotel, walk 5 minutes to the Covent Garden tube station and from there, take the Piccadilly Line for 5 minutes until you get to Hyde Park Corner station. The park awaits you right outside the station. Finding some top notch nosh in London is easy with a wealth of restaurants in London serving a wide variety of cuisine from all around the world. For a great brunch head over to Wild Thyme near our London Acton hotel , another 5 star TripAdvisor favourite that sells yummy veggie and vegan food and has been praised by visitors for their great breakfast offering. Wild Thyme is an easy 20 minute bus ride away from our London Acton hotel on the number 260 which you can catch from bus stop Z right outside the hotel.

How to get the best value hotel in London

If you want to save money and stay out of the hustle and bustle of Central London, you don't have to stay in centre, we have lots of hotels on the outskirts where you can access Central London using the Capital's TfL network. If you're visiting South London, our Travelodge London Greenwich hotel is a 2 minute walk from Deptford Bridge DLR station and is a great base for exploring the National Maritime Museum where you can discover tales of exploration, trade and endeavour with free entry. If you take a tube ride from Deptford Bridge to Greenwich station, The Royal Observatory is a 17 minute walk away. At the Royal Observatory, you can learn more about the world which lies above the clouds, and also stand on the Prime Meridian line and find out how this time line changed the world. Also docked at Greenwich is the award winning and impressive Cutty Sark, a ship that exceeded expectations, broke world records for its speed and proved diligent in exporting and importing goods from overseas such as tea. On site is also a cafe where you can enjoy a traditional English afternoon tea while taking in the epic skyline views of London. Thames river cruises from City Cruises run daily between Westminster Pier opposite the London Eye, and head east over to Greenwich Pier which is a 10 minute walk from Greenwich station, and provide an entertaining and informative guide on the history of life on and around the iconic river Thames.
