Universal Studios Hollywood Celebrates 60th Anniversary of Studio Tour With New and Classic Experiences

The celebration will happen between April 26 and August 11

USH - Studio Tour 60th - Glamor Tram at Jaws Lake

Universal Studios Hollywood is celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Backlot Studio Tour with a dedicated program from April 26 through August 11, 2024. As part of the celebration the trams will receive a makeover that pays homage to the original iconic red-and-white Glamor Trams. Over the span of 60 years, Universal Studios Hollywood has been visited by over 200 million guests worldwide and remains the crown jewel of the Universal Studios Hollywood experience.

According to the official press release “the centerpiece of the Studio Tour 60th anniversary celebration will treat guests to the unique opportunity to step off the tram and onto a legendary movie set where an original, fully restored 1964 vintage Glamor Tram awaits. The area will provide additional memorable photo opportunities and social media posts, including a giant ‘King Kong’ backdrop and the theme park’s original hanging ‘Jaws’ shark.”

Additionally, the Earthquake – The Big One attraction, which debuted as part of the Studio Tour in 1989, has undergone a top-to-bottom renovation and will debut with contemporary technology and aesthetics.

It’s unclear if the dancing cars that were once a part of the experience and went away with the Fast and Furious – Supercharged portion of the tour will return. There’s been a big black tarp over them for years and we hope they’re doing okay. (The Kuka robotic arm technology that brought the dancing cars to life also power another attraction at Universal Studios Hollywood: Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey.)

Other features include a visit to Courthouse Square, where scenes from the “Back to the Future” movies have been filmed (along with everything from “To Kill a Mockingbird” to “Gremlins” to “The Monster Squad”), complete with an original time machine picture car and Doc Brown himself (just like how you glimpse that rascally Norman Bates by the “Psycho” house).

According to the official release, as the tram cars “navigates around the historic backlot, additional surprises from a time long gone will make a cameo appearance, including the temporary return of the 1976 Runaway Train as warning bells and sirens alarm from its stationary location. Moments of nostalgia will also be featured aboard the tram’s monitors showing clips of former Studio Tour attractions as they once appeared on the tour.”

There will also be a new dinosaur from “Jurassic World” on the tour. “This giant, growling creature, bearing a large bite of sharp teeth, will be located adjacent to a locked paddock of wild dinosaurs that can be heard screeching and clamoring to escape,” according to the official release.

Universal Studios has also partnered with the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce and the Hollywood Sign Trust and “is debuting the first-ever original replica of the Sign to be situated along the studio backlot, adjacent to the tram step off moment. This large-scale reproduction was meticulously crafted from the Sign’s historic records to faithfully recreate this iconic landmark and bring it to visiting Studio Tour guests, where it will be nestled for several years along the hillside. The original Hollywood Sign towers at 45 feet; this official replica will stand tall at 10 feet to complement the landscape.”

There will also be ”a selection of specially created, highly themed food and beverages, curated by the theme park’s Executive Chef Julia Thrash, along with themed merchandise and memorabilia.” You can also buy a special dining package, which allows you “ to choose six eligible menu items: a choice of two entrees, plus a choice of four snacks, sides, desserts or beverages at participating restaurants or food carts. Select in-park venues and food carts are excluded, and the Dining Pass is valid only on the day of purchase.”

Additionally, the food cart on the upper lot will be turned into a Glamor Tram and serve up a selection of treats tied into the celebration, including the Glam Tram Cookie, Film Reel Cookie Sandwich, Giant 60th Pretzel, 60th Celebration Cookies and Banana Breath Popcorn, a reference to the old Kong encounter on the tour and his infamous banana breath. The popcorn bucket (below) is a must.

“The Studio Tour paved the way for the development of Universal Studios Hollywood and celebrating its 60-year milestone pays homage to its indelible impact,” said Scott Strobl, Executive Vice President and General Manager, Universal Studios Hollywood, in an official statement. “The Studio Tour is a crown jewel in our theme park portfolio and a beloved attraction for millions of guests. We are thrilled and honored to share our enthusiasm for its historic relevance with guests both new to the experience as well as those who have journeyed with us along the way.”

Whoville Sets Demolished at Universal Studios Hollywood

magicguidebooks

The Whoville sets have been demolished at Universal Studios Hollywood. Created for How the Grinch Stole Christmas starring Jim Carey, the iconic sets were torn down this week.

As seen here from the World-Famous Hollywood Tour tram, guests could snap photos of the massive sets. Universal Studios Hollywood even painted the asphalt around with Seussian patterns.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas , a Ron Howard blockbuster film, used nearly all of the soundstages in the Universal backlot. This massive production brought the colorful world of Dr. Seuss to life without the need of elaborate digital effects. In fact, the set pieces helped score an Academy Award nomination for Best Art Direction in a film.

However, the Whoville set pieces haven’t looked very good in recent years. By the start of 2020, the once-vibrant set pieces looked dull and dirty. While we hoped that Universal might recolor these sets, the theme park chose to remove them instead.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas opened in November of 2000. The movie received mixed reviews from both audiences and critics. However, Jim Carey’s elaborate appearance won the film an Academy Award for best makeup.

Though this piece of Dr. Seuss-inspired art is gone, Universal still owns an iconic land based on the author. Seuss Landing at Universal’s Islands of Adventure in Florida is a beautiful escape. With colorful buildings, rides based on his books, and even bent palm trees, the experience is unforgettable.

Universal Studios to mark 60th anniversary of backlot tram tours

U NIVERSAL CITY –  The famed Universal Studios Hollywood backlot tram tour will be going back in time to mark the attraction’s 60th anniversary beginning later this month, including a chance for people to step off the tram and wander onto a movie set and snap photos with some iconic props.

“The Studio Tour paved the way for the development of Universal Studios Hollywood and celebrating its 60-year milestone pays homage to its indelible impact,” Scott Strobl, executive vice president and general manager of Universal Studios Hollywood , said in a statement. “The Studio Tour is a crown jewel in our theme park portfolio and a beloved attraction for millions of guests. We are thrilled and honored to share our enthusiasm for its historic relevance with guests both new to the experience as well as those who have journeyed with us along the way.”

The celebration will be held from April 26 through Aug. 11, marking the anniversary of an attraction that began in 1964 and has been experienced by an estimated 200 million people over the years.

The park will harken back to its original “Glamor Trams,” which were colored red and white and featured ruffled awnings as they carried visitors through the backlot. Visitors on the anniversary tours will get the chance to disembark from the tram and step onto “a legendary movie set where an original, fully restored 1964 vintage Glamor Tram awaits,” according to the park.

The disembarkment area will also include a King Kong backdrop and the park’s original hanging “Jaws” shark.

Also included on the tour will be a revamped version of its “Earthquake — The Big One” attraction, which officials said has “undergone a top-to-bottom renovation and will debut anew with contemporary technology and aesthetics.”

The tour will also pass by the Courthouse Square — best known for its appearances in the “Back to the Future” films. An original time machine picture car will be on display in the area for photos, along with a Doc Brown character.

Also back on display will be a Tyrannosaurus Rex display originally used in promotion of the film “Jurassic World.”

In partnership with the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, the park will also have on display a scaled-model replica of the Hollywood Sign nestled on a hillside for photos.

We’ve made our way all the way over to Universal Hollywood for its grand reopening !

universal studios tour whoville

We’ve seen the ride processes look a bit different as new health and safety regulations have been put in place . But, today there was something HUGE missing from a popular attraction!

The Universal Studios Tram Tour is one of the most ICONIC parts of Universal Hollywood as guests actually get to step INTO their favorite movies.

universal studios tour whoville

Since many shows and films are actually shot on the Universal lot, it’s not unusual to see filming taking place on property. (We even spotted  American Ninja Warrior being filmed today!)

universal studios tour whoville

The Universal Studios Tram Tour has multiple set pieces from iconic movies — like Back to the Future, Jurassic Park, and Jurassic World — as well as sets that are frequently used in productions.

universal studios tour whoville

One such set happened to be Whoville from How the Grinch Stole Christmas ,  where guests could see where the town-wide festivities brought Whos together to celebrate. Yet, during our trip on the Tram Tour today, we were sad to find out that Whoville is no longer a stop along the way .

universal studios tour whoville

While we aren’t sure if this is because the set is being repurposed for another film or if it’s undergoing construction, we’re definitely missing it!

Christmas 1999 Press Release

(17 November 1999 – 1 January 2000)

Universal Studios Hollywood will present “Grinchmas,” a special “Who-liday” celebration based on Theodor Geisel’s beloved holiday classic, beginning November 17 and continuing through January 1 2000, in conjunction with the opening of Imagine Entertainment’s “Dr. Seuss’ How The Grinch Stole Christmas,” the highly anticipated Universal Pictures holiday feature film starring Jim Carrey.

A Universal Studios Hollywood celebration of everything Who-vian, Grinchmas takes the delightfully off-kilter residents of Dr. Seuss’ Who-ville — including the Grinch himself — off the screen and brings them to life for park guests.

As guests enter the park, they’ll be greeted with elaborate and zany Who-vian holiday decorations. A fanciful Who-vian procession will wind its way through the park several times daily while acrobatic Seuss-ian street performers deftly balance stacks of teetering holiday gift packages. Guests will also hear singing Whos, play in real snow and experience close encounters with the Grinch and his little dog, Max.

At the Who-ville Who-bilation area, singing and dancing Who-villians teach the Grinch the true spirit of Christmas. Young revelers can slip and slide down the 41′ tall, icy Mt. Crumpit Snow Plummet sledding hill, or meander through The Grinch’s Cave Maze, where prodded on by the voice of the Grinch, they’ll see the fanciful original prop furnishings from the movie, interact with the Grinch himself and enjoy other surprise features throughout the enormous and whimsically constructed cavern.

Who-ville Who-bilations will abound nightly, with a singing and dancing cast of Who-villians, a nightly tree-lighting ceremony, appearances by the Grinch’s faithful dog Max and real snowstorms. Guests can snack on such Seuss-ian treats including Mt. Crumpit Crispy Treats, Grinch cookies and, of course, green eggs and ham, served each morning for breakfast.

The Grinchmas celebration continues aboard the famed Studio Tour, where guests will see the original Who-ville sets, among the most imaginative and elaborate ever constructed on Universal’s historical back lot. At Universal CityWalk, a “walk-through” display sponsored by Kodak will provide guests with a unique Grinch photo opportunity.

In a special offer made available as part of the Grinchmas program, guests who purchase a regularly priced admission ticket during the Grinchmas celebration will also receive a special three-month park admission pass valid Jan. 1 through March 31, 2001. Admission to Universal Studios Hollywood is $43 for ages 12 and older, $32 for ages 3 to 11, children under 3 are free, tickets for ages 60 and above are $37.

The Grinch and Martha May Whovier Headline Grinchmas at Universal Theme Parks

Who needs santa and mrs. claus when universal studios hollywood has whoville's icons.

Grinchmas at Universal Studios

Released in 2000, Ron Howard’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas has become a modern Christmas classic—so much so that it’s managed to be more timeless than Illumination’s 2018 Grinch animated film . That’s probably thanks to the presence Jim Carrey’s inimitable take on the character at Universal Studios theme parks .

The festive holiday centerpiece at Universal Studios Hollywood is a little slice of Whoville with a Christmas tree lighting and readings of Dr. Seuss’ 1957 tale How the Grinch Stole Christmas, by way of the Ron Howard adaptation. It’s beyond wild that this version of the classic story dominates the Universal parks on both coasts. You’d think at a certain point it would have gone back to the 1966 animated tale (or moved on to the Illumination version, which was a bigger box-office hit). Howard’s Grinch was a chaotic Christmas miracle, with unhinged performances, an amazingly designed Who world (a former staple on the Universal’s legendary Studio Tour until the buildings began to crumble away), weird inside jokes, and just a bonkers combination of earnest heart with a hearty dose of naughty for the grownups. Anyone else remember the bowl of keys during the holiday party baby Grinch witnesses upon arrival?

There’s a ton of reasons this has become the top Grinch to watch every year, and then immerse yourself in at Universal Studios; it’s synergy that has kept the film in the zeitgeist, and we’re here for it. The celebration features recreations of iconic moments from the film with skits and music, playing up the fan-favorite ship between the Grinch and Martha May Whovier. The theme park performers who play these roles really channel the chemistry seen in the film between Jim Carrey and Christine Baranski; I’d say the hots they have for each other can light up all of Whoville. That Martha May Whovier—we know she had a big part to play in the Grinch’s heart growing three sizes, along with the Christmas spirit inspired by little Cindy Lou Who, of course.

The trio of iconic characters host readings and meet and greets, along with the Grinch’s dog Max (played on rotation by the goodest dog actors around), throughout the holiday season. Along with the Whoville decor and themed whimsical treats, Grinchmas is a holiday like no other at the theme parks that embraces the madcap vibe of the season and includes even the Grinchiest of folks.

You Can Meet the Grinch This Winter in a Real-life Whoville

universal studios tour whoville

If you’re itching to visit Whoville after watching " The Grinch ," you’re not alone. This sweet new take on the classic Christmas tale makes the heartwarming imaginary neighborhood more appealing than ever before. And we have good news: to visit the snow-capped mountain town — where you can sing wintertime songs, bask under the glow of a tree, and actually meet Max the dog, Cindy Lou Who, and the furry, fiery Grinch first-hand — you won’t even have to travel too far.

All you’ll need is a flight to Los Angeles or Orlando.

The Grinch’s signature sass and sourpuss behavior hits Universal theme parks on both coasts each winter, bringing Christmas cheer and The Grinch’s lackluster jeers to Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Orlando’s Islands of Adventure .

With merchandise from the film for sale, character meet-and-greets, and special photo opportunities, there are as many Grinch experiences in the theme parks as there are ornaments hanging on the movie’s massive Whoville tree. Since the new film’s green giant is animated, the theme park Grinch still resembles that of "How the Grinch Stole Christmas," played by Jim Carrey — a magnetic maestro of festive feels that cannot be missed, no matter which you prefer.

Grinchmas descends upon Los Angeles in December, where a Christmas tree fit for a Who towers 60 feet tall in the center of Universal Studios Hollywood . The wavy-shaped, whimsical emblem, which is topped with snow, ornaments, and colorful lights, serves as the backdrop for live entertainment and photos with characters like the Grinch and Max. Singers and performers even provide a festive spin on caroling, with their noses turned up towards the sky just like the townsfolk in the film. Find the Who-liday Singers and Who Dolls on the first two weekends in December (1–2 and 8–9) and daily from Dec. 14–30, included with park admission.

Celebrations continue at the Florida theme park, where "The Grinchmas Who-liday Spectacular," a stage show bringing Cindy Lou Who, the Grinch, and the entire town of Whoville to life in a rousing rendition of the popular tale performed multiple times per day from Nov. 17 through Jan. 6. Stick around afterwards to meet the Christmas-hating villain and his precious pup in a tinsel-covered Seuss Landing for next year’s ironic Christmas card, also included with admission.

Guests traveling to Orlando can even sit down for bacon, eggs, and toast with the mean one if they dare. The Grinch & Friends character breakfast at Universal’s Islands of Adventure theme park brings the Christmas-despising recluse tableside for a fun and comical visit with perfect photo opportunities. (No word on if the coffee will also be prepared and delivered by Max, but one can only dream.) The meal is $35 for adults and $21 for children on select dates in November and December; park admission is required for entry.

Whoville’s joyful celebration makes for unadulterated holiday cheer, but it’s not the only festivity happening at Universal theme parks. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter on both coasts will embrace Christmas for the second year in a row with nightly snowfall and an illuminating castle show, and Universal Orlando fills its park with sky-scraping merriment by way of massive balloons shaped like "Despicable Me," "Shrek," and "Madagascar" characters as part of Universal’s Holiday Parade featuring Macy’s .

This much holiday glee and you won’t even have to pack a parka? Consider it a Christmas miracle.

Whoville Set From 'How The Grinch Who Stole Christmas' Has Disappeared From Universal Hollywood's Backlot

whoville set on universal hollywood

A real-life Grinch may have arrived early to Universal Studios Hollywood backlot. The Whoville set from the 2000 film  How the Grinch Stole Christmas has apparently disappeared from the backlot of Universal Studios Hollywood, according to helicopter footage recently taken of the film studio and theme park.

The Whoville set has been a fixture of Universal Studios Hollywood since the release of the 2000 film  How the Grinch Stole Christmas , which starred Jim Carrey as the green grump in the live-action feature adaptation of the beloved Dr. Seuss book. But a real-life Grinch may have swooped in and wiped Whoville off the map.

A video from YouTuber Micah Muzio, which showed a helicopter view of the Southern California theme park, seemed to show that the Whoville set had been "demolished,"  according to the Theme Park Obsession Twitter. You can see the apparently missing Whoville at the 10:07 mark.

For nearly as long as Whoville has been a fixture of Universal Studios Hollywood, "Grinchmas" has been a fixture of the theme park's Christmas celebrations. The annual  Grinch -themed celebration began around the time of the park's renovation in 2013, and has delighted parkgoers every December since. During the celebration, the film's crooked tree is placed in Universal Plaza, and Cindy-Lou Who and the residents of Whoville gather around for a storytelling show of Dr. Seuss'  How the Grinch Stole Christmas , complete with special effects and audience participation. Photo opportunities with the Grinch himself are also offered.

/Film's own Peter Sciretta attended Grinchmas as recently as last year. There has been no official confirmation that Whoville has been demolished entirely or is undergoing renovations during closures due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Inside Universal Plaza, Grinchmas has taken over and guests can pose for photos with The Grinch and Max while being entertained by roaming Whoville characters. Kids can send postcards to The Grinch and hang out for storytime with Cindy-Lou Who. Once the sun goes down, the 65-foot curvy Wholiday tree lights up every half hour with a snow flurry and music. There are tasty holiday treats available, including spiked holiday cocktails for the adults and hot cocoa and apple cider for the kids. There are giant Grinch donuts, warm stuffed pretzels, churros, cake jars and cupcakes and a plethora of Grinch-themed swag, including adorable onesie-footie pajamas in sizes for the entire family.

Over at Hogsmeade Village, guests can enjoy a traditional Christmas feast (herb-roasted chicken plate or shepherd’s pie) inside Three Broomsticks and grab Hot Butterbeer at Hog’s Head Pub. The Hogwarts Frog Choir — comprised of witches and wizards from the school — delivers a cappella performances throughout the day and at night, the Magic of Christmas at Hogwarts Castle light show begins and runs at various times until closing.

It’s nearly a seven-minute display of animated light projected onto the castle walls, accompanied by an original soundtrack, that shows the magic and chaos of the season inside Hogwarts. There is also holiday-themed decor available for purchase for those wishing to display their Hogwarts house, whether it be Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw or Slytherin.

The Minions have decorated Super Silly Fun Land, the house facades near the Despicable Me Minion Mayhem ride and Miss Hattie’s Home for Girls, with colorful garland, lights and a towering Christmas tree with Minion-shaped ornaments. The all-new The Secret Life of Pets: Off the Leash attraction and its city facades have also undergone a holiday transformation as well.

CityWalk, the shopping and dining area adjacent to the theme park, is decorated for the holidays with a giant King Kong cutout hanging off of the It’s Sugar store, donning a Santa hat and clenching some mistletoe and there’s a 40-foot-tall Christmas tree with over 200,000 LED lights synchronized to music on display just outside the Universal Cinema.

Due to the rise of COVID-19 cases within Los Angeles country, the theme park now requires face masks to be worn at all times, indoors and outdoors, regardless of vaccination status (except when actively eating or drinking). All guests 12 and older must show proof of full COVID-19 vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours prior to their visit. Universal Studios Hollywood's 2023 Holiday Experiences, Ranked

Cop this hack if you want to get a viral TikTok with the Grinch.

The holidays have taken over Universal Studios Hollywood with a festive menu, sparkling decor, and seasonal shows. The center of the celebration happens in Universal Plaza, which has been transformed for the season into Whoville from How the Grinch Stole Christmas , but Potterheads can also enjoy Christmas in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter . Since there’s a lot to see at Universal this time of year, here’s what’s worth checking out and what you can skip if you’re short on time.

Since I moved to Los Angeles, I’ve become somewhat of a theme part expert and visit each of the California (and Florida) parks at least a few times a year. It’s become my yearly tradition to go to Universal Studios during the holidays to enjoy a warm Butterbeer in Hogsmeade , get a pic with Max the dog from How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and see the Grinchmas tree lighting. Another must-do that scrollers of TikTok have likely seen on their FYP is the Grinch meet and greet that is at both Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Studios Florida in Orlando.

Getting to interact with the Grinch IRL is hilarious, but wait times can be over four hours long . If you have just one day to explore the park and want to enjoy all the food, rides, and shows that you can with enough time to do some holiday shopping for your besties, it helps to know what to prioritize. After spending the day at Universal for my annual holiday trip, here are the holiday experiences that are worth your time.

The Hogwarts Castle Light Show Is So Magical

The light show at Hogwarts Castle is one of the best holiday experiences at Universal Studios Hollyw...

You might assume that meeting the Grinch is at the top of the list because of his virality, but the true must-see of the holiday season at Universal Studios is the light show on Hogwarts Castle. It’s magical and a befitting show for the Wizarding World, with light projections on the castle along with a Harry Potter soundtrack.

While it’s the same show from previous years, it’s still a spectacle that gets you right in the holiday feels. My favorite way to enjoy the Hogwarts Castle show is to grab a warm Butterbeer before and pick a good spot to capture some content. The earlier shows tend to be less busy, so keep that in mind when planning out your day.

The grinch meet and greet is as fun as tiktok makes it seem.

I went to Universal Studio Hollywood's 2023 holiday celebrations and met the Grinch.

There’s a reason Grinch meet and greet TikToks get millions of likes — it really is a highlight of Universal Studios’ holiday celebrations. This year, Universal Studios Hollywood has made it a little easier for you to see the Grinch, too. Instead of just one opportunity in Universal Plaza, they have also set up a second photo location at the end of the Universal Studio Tour. Pass members can also take advantage of an exclusive Grinch meet and greet near the entrance to Jurassic World — The Ride.

Out of all three locations, the pass member one was the best with a short line and cute backdrop. However, the Studio Tour photo op is a hidden gem with the shortest wait time, and it’s perfect for anyone just there for one day. If you do want to see the Grinch in the Whoville plaza, go there as early as possible since the line only gets longer throughout the day.

Most of the universal studios characters are dressed up for the holidays.

The characters at Universal Studios are dressed up for the holidays.

Not only can you get a picture with the Whos from How The Grinch Stole Christmas , but all the other characters around the park are also feeling festive. Donkey from Shrek wears a holiday wreath around his neck, while Shrek is dressed in a homemade Christmas sweater. Even Hello Kitty looks fab in a peppermint candy dress.

Don’t Miss The Max Meet And Greet

While at Universal Plaza, another meet and greet must is to visit the Grinch’s dog, Max. The line is usually not too long, so it’s definitely worth your time. Plus, you get a pic with an adorable dog dressed as a reindeer, like Max in the film, and he may even do some tricks, thanks to a trainer nearby. There are also other characters from Whoville walking around the area to keep you entertained as you wait.

The festive merch makes great holiday gifts for friends.

The holiday merch at Universal Studios Hollywood includes 'Grinch' and 'Harry Potter' items.

You’ll definitely want to make time to stop by the many shops at Universal Studios to check out their holiday merch. They had plenty of Grinchmas items like a popcorn bucket and spirit jerseys for collectors, but Potterheads will want to check out their Christmas at Hogwarts line as well. It includes sweaters, beanies, gloves, mugs, and scented candles. You can also find Harry Potter- themed ornaments to decorate your tree at home.

The Grinchmas Tree Lighting Can Get Pretty Crowded

The Grinchmas Christmas tree lighting is one of the best things to see at Universal Studios Hollywoo...

The Grinchmas tree lighting is very festive, but also very popular. People will camp out for hours on the benches to reserve seats for the their family, and at a certain point, they’ll close off the Universal Plaza before each show to control the crowds. So, if you aren’t in the plaza before they put up the barricades, you’ll need to wait for the next showing.

The reason it gets so crowded is the lighting is a must-see for the holiday season. There’s a show beforehand with Whoville characters, like Cindy Lou Who and the Grinch, singing songs before the big tree at the center is lit. Unless you have a good spot to see everything, though, it’s not as much fun. It might be worth it to grab a snack and some hot chocolate from one of the nearby carts, and camp out on one of the benches for a spot to sit. However, if you’re limited on time, you can see the Christmas tree in all its glory after each show is done for a quick pic for the ‘Gram.

Hogsmeade’s holiday decor is magical but nothing new.

The holiday decor at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter is something to see at Universal Studios Ho...

I was really hoping for something new at the Wizarding World this year for the holiday season, but their decor and shows seem to be the same as usual. They’re sticking with what works, and what works is truly magical. After reading the books and watching all the movies, getting to walk around a snow-capped Hogsmeade with Christmas decor is nostalgic AF.

They’ve even added some holiday wreaths and garland to the Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey queue in the Gryffindor Common Room and near the Sorting Hat. And across from the castle, the Hogwarts Frog Choir can get you into the holiday spirit by singing seasonal melodies.

The Holiday Food Is Really Hit Or Miss

I tried the Grinch’s Heart Lemonade at Universal Studios Hollywood for the Grinchmas celebrations.

As a foodie, I was a little let down by the holiday menu at Universal Studios Hollywood. I was hoping for more savory options, but most of the Insta-worthy menu items were sweet treats like a giant Grinch donut or Gingerbread Whoopie Pie. I tried ordering the whoopie pie, but it was sold out pretty early in the evening.

They did have festive hot chocolates and even a warm espresso martini — which I had to try — and those were just fine, but nothing quite beats a warm Butterbeer this time of year. I also tried the Grinch’s Heart Lemonade hoping that it would be like the viral Grinch Punch from TikTok , but it was a little too sweet for my liking. I did appreciate the gummy heart garnish and glow cube that made the drink picture-perfect, though.

Some of the best menu items for the holidays aren’t even available in the park, but at the restaurants in Universal CityWalk. The Toothsome Chocolate Emporium has a ‘Tis the Season Milkshake, made with vanilla ice cream, brown sugar, cinnamon, and caramel that is topped with whipped cream, holiday sprinkles, buttercream frosting, white chocolate, and a gingerbread cookie. If you’re a foodie like me, I would skip out on the seasonal treats and just go for what you know is good, like the menu at Toadstool Cafe in Super Nintendo World — which is not decorated for the holidays.
