This is an amazing farm stay hosted by Mr. Manish. Nestled on the steps of the hills in Kanatal, this is a beautiful place. The cottages are rustic, and one is totally amidst nature here. The property is a bit off the road, and one has to trek around 1.5 km which takes around 20-30 minutes to reach the cottages. There is a kitchen and a cook available on the property who makes amazing food. Phone signals are not that great and one might face problems there, but you can live without your phone for a day or two, no? Experience nature while you stay here, in these cottages in Kanatal which might not show in the most famous homestays in Uttarakhand but that doesn’t mean that they not carry the potential.

The old Dak Bangalow at Peora built in 1905 was earlier used by the british as an inspection Bungalow. After years of dilapidation, the house was leased by Pradeep and Shubha in 2005 who are now the hosts of this homestay.

11 kms from Uttarkashi into the Assi Ganga Valley lies the hamlet of Kuflon. The village was once famous for the sweet wild berry 'Kafal'. At Kuflon Basics, Anil Kuriyal a native to this place will be your host.

6. smetaceks’ colonial homestay, bhimtal.

This 1000 acre property called Jones estate was initially owned by Col. Jones who was the magistrate of the area. After India 's independence the property was bought by Frederick Smatacek, who fled from the nazi and managed to board a ship to India. His descendant Paddy Smetacek will be your host at this homestay.

The homestay is also known as 'The Retreat' and it has served diplomats from around the world. Fredrick Smetacek who was also an avid entomologist had an extensive collection of butterflies here. The homestays at Sarmoli is a rural development success story. A kilometer ahead of Munsyari is the quaint village of Sarmoli where the sarpanch of the village Mallika initiated the homestay program to help provide income to the people of Sarmoli. The program was started in 2004 and 15 families happily turned their homes into homestays.

Uttarakhand Homestay Scheme

Deendayal Upadhyaya Grah Awas Yojna  has been started by the Government of Uttarakhand for the well being of the local people along with providing unprecedented experience to the domestic and foreign tourists visiting Uttarakhand. Now you can improve your financial condition by using your home as a resting place for tourists.

 Objective of the Home Stay scheme:

• To improve their economic condition by providing self-employment to the local people.
• To introduce tourists to the state's cuisine, culture, historical heritage and traditional / Pahari style.
• Stop migration from the state by creating local employment.
• Target to develop 5000 home stays under Vision 2020.

Benefits of the homestay scheme

• State assistance will also be provided to the eligible applicants for taking loan from the bank for setting up the home stay / renovation of the house.
• The amount of SGST will be reimbursed by the department for the first three years on the income received from the home stay.
• A separate website and mobile app will be developed for the promotion of the scheme.
• Homestay operators will be given hospitality training.
• Reimbursement of charges payable on bond deed against sanction of business loan to the extent of thirty lakh rupees.
• Upgradation, furnishing, maintenance in old buildings and construction of new toilets to the extent of Rs. 2 lakh will not require land-change.

Uttarakhand Home Stay Scheme Aid:

• For plain districts, 25 percent of the cost or maximum  Rs 7.50 lakh basic subsidy and maximum interest subsidy benefit of Rs 1.00 lakh / year for five years.
• For hilly districts, 33 percent of the cost or maximum Rs 10.00 lakh  basic subsidy and maximum interest subsidy of Rs. 1.50 lakh / year for five years.

 Scheme Terms and Conditions

• The landlord is physically residing in the building with his/her family.
• It will be mandatory to register your building under the home stay scheme.
• 1 to 6 rooms can be arranged for tourists.
• This scheme will be applicable in the entire state except the municipal area.
• Preference to buildings constructed/developed in traditional/hill style.

Machalia Village Trek

Machalia is a village at a distance of around 2 KMs from our Homestay. Restoring and revitalizing Trek will take you there and you can find a Plain lands with beautiful River flowing along with Series of Mountains . Time to reach will be less than an hour.

Kathpuria Village trek

Kathpuria is a kind of Developed village in Almora District at a distance of around 3 KMs from our Homestay. A stimulating and uplifting Trek will take you there and you can find great deep valley view ending with Stunning Snow Covered Himalaya. Time to reach will be bit more than 2 Hours.

Majkhali Village trek

Majkhali is the small village on the way to Ranikhet. This village offers majestic view of  Himalyan peaks  with dense layer of forests underneath it.
