We spent weeks trying to book our own European travel online, and after weeks of stress fortune smiled upon us when we met Margaret while renewing our daughters passport. She eased our concerns, and shouldered the burden of making arrangements for the four of us to spend 3 weeks in Europe. She was efficient and provided us as many options as we wanted. We were able to book a Magical multi-destination vacation starting with a week in Paris, and 2 weeks in Italy. As a family of four, we needed larger accommodations; and her recommendations were spot on. The hotels she recommended in Paris and Florence were beyond our expectations. I can't imagine what our vacation would have been without the support of our new friend. I will never attempt to travel again without the support of We Gotta Travel.

When booking a trip for Hawaii I decided why not use a travel agent. I called AAA Travel and Margaret at We Gotta Travel. AAA never even called me back. Margaret answered the phone right away. I am not easy to deal with in that I change my mind a lot. The more I talked with Margaret about the trip, the more changes I made. She always said no problem and got back to me right away with pricing and info. When she said she would follow up with me, she always called right on time. There was a HUGE mistake that she thankfully caught. I gave her flight times and dates that I wanted to take an inter-island flight. We were staying two nights on one island but the flight dates I sent her allowed for only one night. Margaret caught my mistake and called right away to verify this with me. If I had been booked like I had asked it would have created a major problem for me. So, she really saved the day for me. She met in person to drop off my tickets and info and followed up after the trip to see how everything was. There is no extra cost to use a travel agent and it saved me a lot of time and money using her. Highly recommended!

Love love love Margaret! She has booked now 5 trips for us and is always right on top of everything! Got us great rates too! Next stop Bora Bora!!!

Margaret is fantastic! We had a huge group going to multiple European cities, so it was very complicated. Margaret juggled dates, fares, worked for weeks to get us the best rates on air, went back and forth with hotels making sure that our entire group could stay together, and worked out all of the extra stuff as well. She was always super responsive, she stayed on top of everything, and she took care of the details. She is trustworthy and organized. I highly recommend her!

Booking our trip with We Gotta Tavel was the best idea ever! Margaret was absolutely delightful. She made planning our honeymoon so easy and leaving no work to us at all except jumping on the plane and setting free! I highly recommend allowing her to help you too!

we gotta travel

I can only give 4 stars because I have not booked a Cruse yet with Jerry, We Gotta Travel has been helping my friends in our networking group for some time. The are very educated in the art of vacation. If you are thinking of going to a Sandels Resort We Gotta Travel is your place to get hooked up. 661-255-1009

I had Margaret as my travel agent and she was GREAT! She was very informative and always available when I needed her. The price was reasonable and despite all other agents opinions, sandals resorts are amazing! Truly loved my honeymoon thanks to her! Highly recommend her and I will definitely use her again!

After reading Margaret's great reviews I decided to give her a call in attempts to schedule a last minute trip during the busy holiday season on a budget. Margaret was quick to respond and was on the search to find a nice vacation within our budget. She asked great questions to get an idea of what type of trip we were looking for, as we did not have a decided destination. She was always quick to return calls and kept in contact with me throughout the planning. Although we didn't end up booking our trip because of the prime travel airfare which is out of any travel agents control, I will definitely be saving her information for future travels! She was so understanding with our decision and such a pleasure to talk and work with!

I contacted Margaret because of the great reviews on Yelp because I wanted to look into a trip to Hawaii. She answered right away and was very helpful. She prepared a great package deal to Oahu and Maui that I thought would have cost much more. The hotels were very nice and in an area where we could easily walk around and have access to restaurants and shops. We also booked tours which were handled very professionally and prompt. It was the ideal experience where we were given great information and tips. She even followed up about the trip to make sure it was to our liking. It was a true pleasure working with Margaret and I highly recommend her for your travel arrangements.

Planning a trip through Margaret makes life simple, makes your trip no effort, a pleasure and fun. She takes the struggle out of planning a trip. Margaret will do everything for you to make your trip great. She did all the work and made my trip awesome! I highly recommend "We Gotta Travel" with Margaret!

Travel Song

  • View history

The  Travel Song is a song Dora and Boots sing when proceeding to their 1st/next location in all of Season 1, most of Season 2, and some episodes in Seasons 3-7. They sing out the places to go, then ask each other where they are going. The Fiesta Trio and/or other friends also join in. At the end, Dora and Boots giggle, join hands and spin around in a circle. After that, they yell out their destination 1 final time before running or walking off-screen.

  • The title of this song is sometimes incorrectly assumed to be "Come on, ¡Vamonos! " or "The Vamonos Song", due to Dora and Boots saying "Come on, ¡vámonos! " in the song, but in 2001 when Dance And Sing! The Best Of Nick Jr. came out and in 2004 when the Dora the Explorer album came out, it reveals that the song is called the "Travel Song".
  • Whenever the song (or variations thereof) is sung, the places Dora and Boots are going to appear to be farther away than when they ask the viewer where they are.
  • In early episodes, like the Season 1 episodes The Legend of the Big Red Chicken , Three Little Piggies , and Big River , Dora and Boots sing out the places at warp speed, but in later episodes, they sing out the places at normal speed.
  • In Season 1 and the Season 2 episode The Big Storm , Dora and Boots do not clap their hands 3 times after saying "where are we going," they simply say the destination after that line.
  • Because of such, each "Where are we going?" line now lasts eight beats instead of four beats, and the music stops briefly following the mandatory clapping part.
  • When the song was invented in Dora's First Trip , after each mention of "Where are we going?", Dora and Boots do the mandatory clapping part, then stomp their feet three times, before saying the destination, thus each line lasts a total of ten beats.
  • When the places are said at warp speed, the song lasts about 40 seconds; when the places are said at normal speed, the song lasts about 50 seconds. Starting in Season 2 when Dora and Boots clap their hands before saying where they're going, the song lasts about one minute. Dora's First Trip marks the longest Travel Song ever, clocking in at 1:05 long.
  • The log disappears in the following verse save for " Egg Hunt ".
  • There are some episodes where the spinning is absent, such as Dora and Diego to the Rescue! .
  • "What do we need?" in Sticky Tape and Dora's Dance to the Rescue (the answers are "Sticky tape!" and "One big wish!" respectively).
  • "What are we making?" in El Dia De Las Madres (the answer is "Mami's cake!").
  • "What are we gonna do?" in Louder! (the answer is "Cock-a-doodle-doo!").
  • "What's that sound?" in Hic-Boom-Ohhh! (the answer is "Hic-Boom-Ohhh!").
  • "Who are we gonna save?" intended for  Stuck Truck but got cut from the actual episode (the answer is "Ice Cream Truck").
  • "What do we say?" in ¡Por Favor! (the answer is "Por favor!").
  • "What are we doing?" in Dora Rocks! (the answer is "Singalong party!" the first time and "Singalong! Singalong!" the second time).
  • "Where are we going?" has not always been the question asked in this song, even though it is the original question.
  • "To get some ice cream!" in We All Scream for Ice Cream .
  • "To win the whistle!" in Choo-Choo! .
  • "To catch the babies!" in Catch the Babies .
  • "To go save Boots!" in Dora and Diego to the Rescue! .
  • "Around the world!" in Dora's World Adventure! .
  • In most episode, " ¿Adónde vamos?" replaces the last instance of saying "Where are we going?". However, in Star Mountain , " ¿Adónde vamos?" replaces the last two instances of saying "Where are we going?"
  • Azul in Choo-Choo! .
  • Wizzle in Wizzle Wishes .
  • Little Star in the episode with the same name .
  • Rojo in Rojo the Fire Truck .
  • Map in Super Map! and Hide and Go Seek .
  • León in León, the Circus Lion . However, León said "Circus" after the third "Where are we going" but the Fiesta Trio still jump out and say "Circus" after the fourth "Where are we going" but with Dora , Boots , and León all together.
  • Backpack in the The Backpack Parade .
  • Little Map in the episode with the same name .
  • In The Golden Explorers , Dora , Boots , Isa , Benny , Tico sing this song together and they all take turns asking "Where are we going?", clapping their hands and saying the destination.
  • Catch the Babies is the first episode Mami , Papi , and Abuela travel with Dora and Boots and the first episode they sing the Travel Song too but Dora and Boots don't say their own lines before saying "Where are we going?", "Come on let's get to it.", "I know that we can do it.", Mami and Papi say those lines instead.
  • In Dora and Diego to the Rescue , it's the first half-hour episode where Dora does not travel with Boots (since he's flying on a kite and needs to be saved), she instead travels with Diego . During the music break, they run towards the center and facing the viewer instead of jumping over a log on the side while the screen is zoomed out. They also do not spin around at the end, they just keep running and then say, "To go save Boots!"
  • Dora's Dance to the Rescue is the first episode Swiper sings the Travel Song with Dora and Boots, the question asked is "What do we need?" instead of "Where are we going?" and the answer is "One big wish!" instead of the last place.
  • In Dora's World Adventure! , Swiper takes Dora's place because she asks Boots to be in charge of everything at home while she is away, this song has different instrumentals and the answer to "Where are we going?" is "Around the world."
  • In Isa's Unicorn Flowers , Dora and Isa travel with each other and it is the first episode Isa sings this song with Dora and without Boots because he is instead playing soccer with Tico.
  • In Super Spies and Super Spies 2: The Swiping Machine , The synthesizer version is used.
  • In the episode " ¡Por Favor! ", Dora and Boots explain what they are doing and don't say out the places or saying "Where are we going".
  • In " The Super Silly Fiesta ", Dora and Boots sing out words that rhyme with go. They were snow and row and those were not the right words.
  • In Baby Crab , Dora and Boots say "Snap, snap, snap" instead of their destination (Crab Island) and do not ask "Where are we going?" nor clap their hands after asking that question.
  • In Hic-Boom-Ohhh! , Dora and Boots repeat "Hic boom ohhh!" in its place, they ask "What's that sound" and answer "Hic boom ohhh!" instead of asking "Where are we going?" and saying the destination Yellow Valley .
  • In Choo-Choo! and A Present for Santa , Dora and Boots repeat "Chugga-chugga-choo-choo!" in its place and after asking "where are we going", they don't say the last place Big Yellow Station in Choo-Choo! , and in A Present for Santa , they say the places but they pause it for a little bit because they run into their friends sleeping wondering what their presents are and then they continue singing it after that.
  • In  Rojo the Fire Truck , Dora and Boots say "Whoo whoo!" (imitating the siren) twice in its place.
  • In Benny's Big Race , Dora and Boots say "Never give up!" in its place.
  • This may lead to inconsistencies, as if the episode took place before the first episode of Season 1, and Season 1 does not have clapping, so it is possible that Dora and Boots took a break from clapping after this travel song.
  • Little Map is the last Dora the Explorer episode in which Dora and Boots sing this song in full and they only sing it once.
  • A variation of the Travel Song is featured in Return to the Rainforest from Dora and Friends: Into the City! .
  • Normally, Dora and Boots ask the third "Where are we going", but in Three Little Piggies (second time), Pablo's Flute (2nd time), and León, the Circus Lion (1st and only 1 time), Dora asks it solo. Also, Dora usually asks the 4th "Where are we going" solo, but in Star Mountain (both times), Dora and Boots ask it together and in Spanish ( ¿Adónde vamos? )
  • In Hic-Boom-Ohhh! , Dora and Boots sing the Travel Song the 2nd time but Big Red Chicken cut them off when they bump into him due to him sleeping and blocking their way through the Quiet Forest and they somehow just got to the 2nd place they're going so fast but they do not finish singing it because they never had the need since they are already at the 2nd place.
  • However, in Rojo the Fire Truck , Dora and Boots sing this song twice but they sing it the 1st time on the way to the 1st location, the town, and the second time on the way to their destination, the Big Tree.
  • In Beaches , Dora and Boots sing this song 4 times, once on the way to the Sand Dunes , again on the way to the Boardwalk , then on the Boardwalk , and one more time right when they reach the beach (just before Swiper swiped Boots ' floatie).
  • In Dora's World Adventure! and Dora Saves the Mermaids , the Season 4 finale, Dora and ( Boots in Dora Saves the Mermaids or Swiper in Dora's World Adventure!) say four places to go instead of the usual three.
  • In Dora's Got a Puppy , Dora and Boots do not sing this song at all because of Swiper, they had no time singing it because Swiper has been on their case almost throughout the episode and if they were singing it in that episode, he would most likely cut them off in the middle of them singing it wanting to swipe the present.
  • In most Seasons 3-8 episodes, Dora and Boots sing other songs instead of the usual Travel Song. The first time the Travel song wasn't heard at all was in Dora, La Musica . Dora and Boots instead sing A Musician I Am and it's the 1st new song they sing instead of this song.
  • In Berry Hunt , Dora and Boots sing the first stanza of this song followed by Going on a Berry Hunt because they actually are going on a berry hunt picking blueberries from Blueberry Hill where Swiper lives.
  • In Dora's Pirate Adventure , this song is not featured among the 15 songs featured in the episode.
  • In Dora's Fairytale Adventure , Dora travels without Boots and she does not sing this song without him.
  • In Best Friends , Dora and Boots start far apart from each other and sing Tenemos Amigos instead of this song on their way to meet each other at Rainbow Rock.
  • In Boots to the Rescue , Boots travels without Dora and he does not sing it without her, he instead sings I Speak Spanish and English she wrote.
  • But in the Dora the Explorer Party Favorites album, Dora travels without Boots and she DID sing it without him.
  • In Dora Rocks! , the Travel Song is included in the Sing-Along Party Finale with other songs. Dora , Boots and Tico first sing the second stanza unaltered, "What are we doing?" replaces the original "Where are we going?", the entire cast then answers "Sing-along party!".
  • There are other songs similar to this original Travel Song that technically go with this one and have the same name such as Super Spy Travel Song , Super Silly Travel Song , Animal Help Travel Song , Snow Travel Song and Mermaid Travel Song , Dora and Boots don't always sing this original Travel Song and it's not always sung in every episode whenever they travel to places even though it's the original Travel Song and sometimes they don't say the places and the question "Where are we going?" in some of the other songs.
  • Similarly, in the Fisher Price InteracTV version of " Hide and Go Seek " and the Leapster game Dora the Explorer: Wildlife Rescue , only the second half was sung.
  • The Travel Song Medley, the 4th track from the Dora the Explorer CD album includes all but the last verse of this song from Egg Hunt , followed by a song segment intended for Stuck Truck that was cut from the actual episode and ends with the last two stanzas of Yes, We Can! from To the Monkey Bars .
  • The Big Storm is the last episode (until Louder! ) Dora and Boots say the place immediately after asking "Where are we going?" without clapping their hands.
  • The Magic Stick is the first episode in which Dora and Boots clap their hands 3 times after saying "Where are we going?"
  • In Louder! , Dora and Boots don't clap their hands 3 times and they don't say "Where are we going?", they say "What are we gonna do?", then they say "Cock-a-doodle-doo!" as the answer and they just say that after the question just like in Season 1 and the Season 2 episode The Big Storm .
  • In The Legend of the Big Red Chicken , it's the very first episode Dora and Boots sing the Travel Song 3 times, they sing it twice on the way to Puzzle Bridge , then sing it once on the way to the Gate , but they don't sing it on the way to the Big Red Hill .
  • In Big River , Dora and Boots sing this song 3 times, once on the way to the Bridge as the 1st place, twice on the way to the Froggy Rocks as the 2nd place, but they don't sing it on the way to the Waterfall as the 3rd place.
  • In Bouncing Ball , Dora and Boots sing the Travel Song 3 times on the way to all 3 places, once on the way to the Mucky Mud , once on the way to the Troll Bridge , and once on the way to the Volcano .
  • Dora and Boots don't always sing the Travel Song in every episode even though it's the original song they're supposed to sing whenever they're traveling, they sometimes sing other songs besides this song.
  • Dora and Boots have never called the Travel Song by its name throughout the series.
  • In Rescue, Rescue, Rescue! , Dora and Boots don't sing this song, it is very impossible for them to sing it due to all their friends in trouble with the need of their help. However, even if they did sing it, then Dora or someone would cut it off in the middle of them singing it just like getting cut off singing We Did It! , they're going through a lot of trouble helping their friends out so it's technically impossible for them to sing any songs.
  • However, Al Rescate and Una Adventura are considered the "Travel song" of the show.
  • Usually Dora and Boots never sing this song on the way to the last place after passing the 2nd place, they usually just sing it twice on the way to only the 1st and 2nd place but on the way to the third place, they immediately just run to where they're going, however, in Bouncing Ball , they sing it on the way to the last place after passing the 2nd place.
  • In some episodes, Dora and Boots don't sing this song at all, they immediately just run to all the places they're going, sometimes because if they're in a hurry for something and need to get where they need to go right away and don't have time singing it, or they just sing other songs on the way besides this song.
  • Usually when Dora and Boots begin singing this song, Dora tells the viewer, "Come on, say it with us!" just as the instrumentals are playing before they begin singing it, with a few exceptions, Dora however doesn't say that line in Dora Saves the Mermaids before singing it.
  • In Dora and Friends: Into the City! , Dora and Boots sing the Travel Song in the episode Return to the Rainforest and they only sing it once, they sing it in a different way with a different version, they don't say the places they're going but they still ask the question "where are we going" and clap their hands 3 times.
  • In Seasons 1 and 2, Dora and Boots never ask "Where are we going?" in Spanish at all during this song, they're always asking that question in English.
  • Dora and Boots sing the Travel Song from Lost and Found featured as the 42nd track in Dance And Sing! The Best Of Nick Jr.
  • Dora and Boots never sing the Travel Song on the way to school whenever it's the last place, not even when Boots travels alone in Boots to the Rescue . In the said episode, he instead sings I Speak Spanish and English .
  • The Travel Song is almost never said in any of the episode plots.

Dora_the_Explorer_Travel_Song_(PAL)_Season_1

Dora the Explorer Travel Song (PAL) Season 1

  • Dora and Boots don't sing the Travel Song throughout the entirety of Season 8.
  • A shorter sped up 50 second version of the song was also created. It was probably used on CBS airings, which most likely shortened the episodes to put more time in for commercials due to time constraints.
  • A karaoke version of the song was released by Charttrak Karaoke. It can be listed to on YouTube, which you guys can sing at anytime, make it your own lyrics and sing it to your friends, your family, or however you like. It all doesn't matter for that song anyway.
  • The Travel Song is absent in Dora and the Lost City of Gold .
  • There is an alternate version of the song called Gotta Travel Song .
  • Throughout Seasons 1-4, the recordings of "Come on, ¡vámonos! " and "Where are we going?", as well as Dora and Boots giggling as they spin in a circle, were recycled from Season 1.
  • Super Spies is the first episode where Dora and Boots strike poses; when they say "Door" and "Jungle", they lean forward with their arms out tiptoing; when they say "Flowery Garden", they raise their arms over their heads.
  • In Dora and Diego to the Rescue! , Dora and Diego wave their arms when they say "Ocean"; they pry their arms away when they say "Grass"; they tiptoe and jump while raising their arms when they say "Polar Bear Mountain".
  • Isa's Unicorn Flowers does the same whenever they say "Rainbow", with Isa taking Boots' place
  • In Dora's World Adventure! , Dora and Swiper raise their arms and spread them out when they say "Tower"; they hold their hands high when they say "Mountain"; they lean in close when they say "Palace"; they lean away from each other holding hands when they say "Wall".
  • In Dora Saves the Mermaids , only Boots does various arm gestures according to the places (arms held forward at "Bridge", arms in with fingers tented at "Island", arms spread out at "Sea", arms raised up at "Kingdom"), since Dora is holding Mariana's crown and therefore her hands are too full to do them.

Hot Oceans Worsened Dubai’s Dramatic Flooding, Scientists Say

An international team of researchers found that heavy rains had intensified in the region, though they couldn’t say for sure how much climate change was responsible.

  • Share full article

Trucks under water with a bridge in the background.

By Raymond Zhong

Scenes of flood-ravaged neighborhoods in one of the planet’s driest regions stunned the world this month. Heavy rains in the United Arab Emirates and Oman submerged cars, clogged highways and killed at least 21 people. Flights out of Dubai’s airport, a major global hub, were severely disrupted.

The downpours weren’t a total surprise — forecasters had anticipated the storms several days earlier and issued warnings. But they were certainly unusual.

Here’s what to know.

Heavy rain there is rare, but not unheard-of.

On average, the Arabian Peninsula receives a scant few inches of rain a year, although scientists have found that a sizable chunk of that precipitation falls in infrequent but severe bursts, not as periodic showers. These rains often come during El Niño conditions like the ones the world is experiencing now.

U.A.E. officials said the 24-hour rain total on April 16 was the country’s largest since records there began in 1949 . And parts of the nation had already experienced an earlier round of thunderstorms in March.

Oman, with its coastline on the Arabian Sea, is also vulnerable to tropical cyclones. Past storms there have brought torrential rain, powerful winds and mudslides, causing extensive damage.

Global warming is projected to intensify downpours.

Stronger storms are a key consequence of human-caused global warming. As the atmosphere gets hotter, it can hold more moisture, which can eventually make its way down to the earth as rain or snow.

But that doesn’t mean rainfall patterns are changing in precisely the same way across every part of the globe.

In their latest assessment of climate research , scientists convened by the United Nations found there wasn’t enough data to have firm conclusions about rainfall trends in the Arabian Peninsula and how climate change was affecting them. The researchers said, however, that if global warming were to be allowed to continue worsening in the coming decades, extreme downpours in the region would quite likely become more intense and more frequent.

Hot oceans are a big factor.

An international team of scientists has made a first attempt at estimating the extent to which climate change may have contributed to April’s storms. The researchers didn’t manage to pin down the connection precisely, though in their analysis, they did highlight one known driver of heavy rain in the region: above-normal ocean temperatures.

Large parts of the Indian, Pacific and Atlantic Oceans have been hotter than usual recently, in part because of El Niño and other natural weather cycles, and in part because of human-induced warming .

When looking only at El Niño years, the scientists estimated that storm events as infrequent as this month’s delivered 10 percent to 40 percent more rain to the region than they would in a world that hadn’t been warmed by human activities. They cautioned, however, that these estimates were highly uncertain.

“Rainfall, in general, is getting more extreme,” said Mansour Almazroui, a climate scientist at King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and one of the researchers who contributed to the analysis.

The analysis was conducted by scientists affiliated with World Weather Attribution, a research collaboration that studies extreme weather events shortly after they occur. Their findings about this month’s rains haven’t yet been peer reviewed, but are based on standardized methods .

The role of cloud seeding isn’t clear.

The U.A.E. has for decades worked to increase rainfall and boost water supplies by seeding clouds. Essentially, this involves shooting particles into clouds to encourage the moisture to gather into larger, heavier droplets, ones that are more likely to fall as rain or snow.

Cloud seeding and other rain-enhancement methods have been tried around the world, including in Australia, China, India, Israel, South Africa and the United States. Studies have found that these operations can, at best, affect precipitation modestly — enough to turn a downpour into a bigger downpour, but probably not a drizzle into a deluge.

Still, experts said pinning down how much seeding might have contributed to this month’s storms would require detailed study.

“In general, it is quite a challenge to assess the impact of seeding,” said Luca Delle Monache, a climate scientist at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography in La Jolla, Calif. Dr. Delle Monache has been leading efforts to use artificial intelligence to improve the U.A.E.’s rain-enhancement program.

An official with the U.A.E.’s National Center of Meteorology, Omar Al Yazeedi, told news outlets that the agency didn’t conduct any seeding during the latest storms. His statements didn’t make clear, however, whether that was also true in the hours or days before.

Mr. Al Yazeedi didn’t respond to emailed questions from The New York Times, and Adel Kamal, a spokesman for the center, didn’t have further comment.

Cities in dry places just aren’t designed for floods.

Wherever it happens, flooding isn’t just a matter of how much rain comes down. It’s also about what happens to all that water once it’s on the ground — most critically, in the places people live.

Cities in arid regions often aren’t designed to drain very effectively. In these areas, paved surfaces block rain from seeping into the earth below, forcing it into drainage systems that can easily become overwhelmed.

One recent study of Sharjah , the capital of the third-largest emirate in the U.A.E., found that the city’s rapid growth over the past half-century had made it vulnerable to flooding at far lower levels of rain than before.

The Most Beautiful Stations on the Moscow Metro

we gotta travel

You might have heard that there are some beautiful metro stations in Moscow. Soviet decorations, chandeliers, mosaic painting and statues are common in many of the stations. The good news is that the Moscow Metro does not cost a lot of money and many of the most beautiful stations on the Moscow metro are on the same line, so you can almost get on and off at each station to visit these. Over the New Year holidays, I had a free afternoon and decided to visit some of these stations. Check out what I found below…..

The main stations that you will want to visit are on the Number 5 line, also known as the Circle Line. An advantage of this line is that you can get to it very easily and quickly no matter where you are in Moscow. The announcements on the metro are in Russian as well as English so you don’t need to worry if your Russian language skills are not good.

If, like me, you arrive in Moscow via train from Kyiv , then you will arrive at a metro station which many Muscovites believe to be the most beautiful of them all…..

Kievskaya metro station was opened in 1954 and features white marble walls which curve upwards and have with large mosaics surrounded by a gold trim in a very classical style. The mosaics depict life in Ukraine and was designed by a Ukrainian who wanted to display Ukraine’s influence and contribution to Soviet Russia.

Belorusskaya

If you look at a map of the metro , you will want to go in a clockwise direction on the circle line. So you will want to get on the train going in the Barrikadnaya direction and not Park Kultury. Stay on this line until you reach the 2nd station, Belorusskaya. This station was built in 1952 and like Kievskaya also features white marble pylons and a plaster ceiling.

The ceiling features 12 mosaics in an octagonal shape depicting Belarusian life, while the tiling on the floor is said to resemble a Belarusian quilt. One of the passageway exits of the station has a statue called ‘Belarusian Partisans’ of three men wearing long coats, holding guns and carrying a flag.”

Mayakovskaya

To get to the next station, we need to change onto the green line (line 2) and go just one stop to the station of Mayakovskaya. This station has an art deco theme and, for some, resembles an elaborate ballroom. The columns are faced with stainless steel and pink rhodonite while the marble walls and ceiling have 34 mosaics with the theme “24-hour Soviet Sky. Apparently, Stalin resided here during the 2nd World War as the station was used as a command post for Moscow’s anti-aircraft regiment.

Novoslobodskaya

It’s time to get back on the metro and return to Belorusskaya. At Belorusskaya, change to the circle line again and continue clockwise to the next station, Novoslobodskaya. With its 32 stained glass panels, this station reminds me of a church. The panels were designed by Latvian artists and are surrounded by a brass border.

Prospekt Mira

Back on the metro and again just one stop until our next station, Prospekt Mira. This station was originally called Botanichesky Sad after the nearby Botanical Gardens of the Moscow State University. The pylons are covered in white marble and decorated with floral bas-relief friezes. The ceiling is decorated with casts and several cylindrical chandeliers.

Komsomolskaya

On the metro once more and once more we are going just one stop to the next station – Komsomolskaya. This station is famous for its its yellow ceiling. The chandeliers in this station are huge. The photos below do not do this station justice.  For me, this station resembles a presidential palace.  You hace to see it for yourself to truly appreciate it.

Because of it’s location, this is one of the busiest stations in the Moscow metro as it serves three of the main train stations in the city – Leningradsky, Yaroslavsky, and Kazansky so be prepared for a lot of people.

Elektrozavodskaya

When you are ready to leave Komsomolskaya metro station behind, then get back on the circle line and go one stop to Kurskaya and change to the blue line (line 3) and go to two stops to the Elektrozavodskaya station. This station gets it’s name from a nearby electric light bulb factory and has a somewhat industrial but also futuristic style, with 6 rows of circular lamps (there are 318 lamps in total). I think this is one of the most beautiful stations on the Moscow metro for how unique it is. The station was opened in 1944 after a delay because of the 2nd World War and features 12 marble bas-reliefs of the struggle on the home front during the war.

Ploschad Revolyutsii

Back on the metro line 3 (but in the other direction), getting off at the 3rd stop – Ploschad Revolyutsii (Revolution Square). This is located underneath the square in Moscow of the same name and is a short walk from Red Square in the city centre. It is the perfect place to end a visit around Moscow’s metro. The station features red and yellow marble arches with a total of 76 sculptures in between each arch. The sculptures are supposed to represent the people of the Soviet Union and include soldiers, farmers, industrial workers, children etc… I noticed a lot of people touching the golden chicken in the photo below as well as the show of the woman. I am assuming that this is for good luck.

Kievskaya definitely caught me off guard. Didn’t know Moscow metro stations were THIS extravagant! Mayakovskaya is gorgeous too with the marble walls and mosaics. I might just need to book a flight over to admire all of these!

Do it! Kievskaya was my first introduction to the Moscow metro as I got an overnight train from Kyiv.

You know, in the States, all we ever hear is bad stuff about Russia. It’s nice to see other (and lovely!) dimensions of such a controversial place.

It’s the same in the UK which is why I prefer going to see somewhere and making up my own mind. It’s all ‘politics and bullshit’ as I say

' src=

I went to Moscow about 13years for Christmas and went to train stations, so I can see these amazing mosaics and chandeliers. I agree with you that are beautiful Stations for sure and I could of wandered around for days. I think Kievskaya is definitely my favourite out of them all and I even have some similar pictures as you.

I imagine Moscow would have been a little different 13 years ago but these stations have probably always looked beautiful

You chose some great stations for this write up! Beautiful details in these stations and would love to visit them sometime. Particularly like the Komsomolskaya station with that yellow ceiling!

Thank you very much. Komsomolskaya seems to be a lot of peoples favourite stations too

Wow! Without the text I would have thought them to be some museum or gallery.

Wow, it is just stunning! How does anyone get to work with so much to look at. I’m surprised at the very bourgeois-looking Komsomolskaya station. I would have thought it was all too Tzarist looking, but then I haven’t been to Russia yet lol. This has just made me want to go more!

' src=

Wow, that’s a lot of artwork. I wonder how old some of these pieces are?

Generally most of the stations are from 1940-1960 approximately. The later stations are more functional than style.

' src=

My mother-in-law was in Moscow fifty years ago and still raves about the metro stations. So far, I could not imagine much. But now! The pictures are great and I think it’s almost a pity that this splendor is underground. But for every user of the Metro can enjoy a free trip to the world of art. Susanne

True. It is like having a free trip to an art museum/gallery. I hope that you can one day visit Moscow and see for yourself.

' src=

Oh wow, I would never have known that these were metro stations. The ceilings remind me of how you need to look up sometimes, even in the commuter rush!

It is true about life in general, we just go from A to B looking directly in front of us instead of around us

' src=

Wow, I would have never guessed that these were stations. The decor is so pretty and not one I’m used to seeing at metro stations. Love the ceiling at The Komsomolskaya metro station.

They certainly don’t look like metro stations. The ceiling there is one of my favourites too!
