Kevin Gates

Three years after releasing  I’m Him , Kevin Gates is preparing to release his third studio album, Khaza . The Baton Rouge, Louisiana took to social media earlier this week to announce that his upcoming project will be available on June 17, 2022. However, he didn’t offer a track list or cover art. With that said, he did offer something a bit more exciting — tour dates.

Kevin Gates will embark on the “Big Lyfe” tour later this year. Beginning August 18 in Dallas, Gates plans to hit 33 cities across North America, including Houston, Kansas City, Chicago , Detroit, Boston, Nashville , Atlanta and New Orleans . Things will come to a close on October 14, 2022 in Pensacola, Florida.

Kevin Gates is one of a handful of artists to announce a tour within the last two weeks. Burna Boy, Jack Harlow, Logic, Wiz Khalifa and several other acts plan to hit the road later this year. Not to mention, Kendrick Lamar is set to embark on the “Mr. Morale and The Big Steppers” tour with Baby Keem and Tana Leone as well.

Tickets for the tour are available now and  Khaza  is on the way.

Kevin Gates 2024 Tour Announcement – The Ceremony Tour Schedule

Kevin Gates 2024 Tour Announcement – The Ceremony Tour Schedule

Kevin Gates has announced “The Ceremony tour” for the spring of 2024! The chart-topping rapper will kick off on March 28th in Los Angeles, CA, making ten stops before wrapping up on June 18th in Morrison, CO.

After a solid two years celebrating Khaza , Gates’ critically-acclaimed third record that peaked at No. 8 on the Billboard 200, he’s ready to start a new chapter. The Louisiana rapper has just released The Ceremony — a grand spectacle of guest vocalists, soul-stirring verses, and more to remind you why he’s the best in the game. Have you listened to new tracks like “God Slippers,” “Yonce Freestyle,” and “Birds Calling?”

If not, it’s time to grab your AirPods and prepare for nearly an hour of aggressive delivery, unflinching honesty, and melodic hip-hip made for any type of music fan. Is it intense? Sure, but that’s just a part of Kevin Gates’ refined artistry. With help from his friends like B.G., Sexyy Red, and Drumma Boy, he’s crafted one of the most mature records of his career. And fans and critics are taking notice.

“Gates’ music has always had a motivational quality to it, but  The Ceremony  feels more triumphant than much of his past work,” wrote HipHopDX in their review. “Some lyrical missteps and a few duds aside,  The Ceremony  mostly succeeds as a cohesive, singular body of work.” While most know him as the super-successful rapper who quickly made a name for himself in the scene, starting with his triple-platinum debut, 2016’s Islah, others know that his life has been far from easy.

He’s faced legal issues, mental health struggles, bad relationships and so much more that’s manifested itself into his music. And while we’ve gotten dozens of hit songs, like “Really Really,” “2 Phones,” and “Big Gangsta” out of it, Gates is now in his healing era. The Ceremony is a celebration of the here and now sprinkled over the best hip-hop choruses in recent years, and just wait until you hear them live! Get your tickets to the Kevin Gates tour today.

ABOUT KEVIN GATES

Kevin Gates transformed into one of the game's most impactful and inimitable rappers by simply being Kevin Gates. Nearly 15 years into an unbelievable career, he doesn’t chase trends. He doesn’t censor himself. He doesn’t hold back. Instead, he speaks his mind and fulfills every promise.  It’s why the Baton Rouge, LA native has racked up over 6 billion streams, 6 billion views, and dozens of multiplatinum, platinum, and gold certifications. It’s why his 2013 song “Thinking With My Dick” reached Billboard’s Hot 100 for the first time in 2022 and became #1 overall sound on TikTok.  It’s why he’s logged four Top 5 entries on the Billboard Top 200 in addition to seven Top 5 entries on both the Top Rap Albums Chart and the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums Charts. It’s why he’s sold-out successive headline tours, delivered show-stopping sets at Rolling Loud and JMBLYA , and ignited arenas with Cardi B. It’s why he’s received various high-profile award nominations. It’s why he’s reached rarified air, emerging as the second best-selling hip-hop artist of 2016 only behind Drake. It’s why he’s also spawned countless think pieces. Among those, Pitchfork described 2019’s gold certified I’m Him as “another showcase for the Baton Rouge rapper’s fully formed and gloriously weird personality” and praised, “The hooks are magnificent, his most boisterous and fine-tuned since Islah . ” As always, he doesn’t compromise on 2021’s Only The Generals Part II [Bread Winner Alumni/Atlantic Records] and more music on the horizon. He’s only gotten better at being Kevin Gates. Kevin continues his reign with the release of his third full-length LP, KHAZA . Since the album’s release Kevin has released several singles to keep the momentum building including: “Big Lyfe,” “Bad For Me,” “Intro,” “Metro,” “Major League,” and his explosive “Super General (Freestyle).” His KHAZA national tour supported the album with several sold-out dates across the country first kicking off in Dallas, TX.

LIVE REVIEW: Kevin Gates is back on the road and better than ever with ‘I’m Him’ tour

LIVE REVIEW: Kevin Gates is back on the road and better than ever with ‘I’m Him’ tour

There’s something about concerts in the fall that make it the perfect season for concerts. Summer is too high, winter is too cold — fall is somewhere in between there. It could be nice, cool 60 to 70 degrees, maybe a slight breeze, and you’ve got the perfect weather for an outdoors concert. Most of the time at least, as other times (especially in the Midwest) you could have a mid-October concert outdoors and be struck with 40 degree weather and a heavy breeze. That was the scene for this Wednesday night in Columbus, Ohio as Kevin Gates rolled through town with his fall tour promoting his latest album, I’m Him , which is out now via Atlantic Records .

For this night, doors opened at 6:30pm, and the smart people brought blankets and many layers as Kevin Gates ultimately wouldn’t go on stage for about three more hours. Openers SDoT Fresh, Rod Wave, and YK Osiris did a great job getting the crowd ready for Gates, but when the house music shuts off and the lights go down around 9:30, you can feel the anticipation in the crowd. DJ Rod comes out, the screen behind him lights up with the BWA — Bread Winners Association — logo, as he runs across the stage once before disappearing and then emerging behind the screen and landing just above the screen with his required equipment.

Like clockwork, everyone lifts their phones up into the air to start (or continue) documenting their night. A few go down after a few moments, seemingly realizing that there was going to be a little bit more of a wait before Kevin Gates himself comes out. DJ Ron does his thing still, getting the crowd hyped and ready for the main event, even playing a select few tracks from Gates. The crowd definitely reacts, as they move around and throw their hands up ever so slightly, but as each song goes on you can see less and less of a reaction — simply representative of fans in the crowd beginning to save their cheers for Gates himself.

After about 15 minutes, DJ Ron instructs everyone to bring their phones back up and turn on their lights, as the house lights once again dim down and an introduction plays on the screen on stage. When Kevin Gates runs out on stage, smoke and pyrotechnics shoot out of the stage, ripping through “Great Man” as the ferocious opening to his set. During the song, he asks the sound guy to turn up his monitors, then ensures the crowd can hear him, and rips right back into the song as if nothing ever happened. The crowd didn’t even remotely seem to mind because, at this point, I’m not sure if I’ve ever seen so many people hold their phones up in solidarity capturing glimpses of Gates.

After the song, he pauses to tell the crowd, “You know how I know y’all love me? You don’t gotta tell me, it’s cold as shit out here.” He then introduces himself to the crowd and says, “I love this shit, but I’ve suffered. Everyone in here, if you’ve ever suffered, the people that really love you suffer with you. I’ve been kicked in my ass a million times. I’ve had a million doors slammed in my face, but I’m in Ohio tonight.” This provokes a thunderous applause, and then the thanks the crowd for showing up and sounding amazing, before diving right back into his set with a performance of “Imagine That.”

Cell phones go up and down throughout the night, which is never a bad thing, as it means they fans are thoroughly enjoying themselves and want to remember their night. After performing “Paper Chasers,” he panders to the crowd a bit yelling out “O-H” and telling the crowd that “This is the most turnt crowd I’ve ever seen since I’ve been on tour.” If you weren’t already jumping around in the crowd, then you would be now as Kevin Gates goes through his set. Constant smoke and pyrotechnics come up from the stage throughout his night, as he also runs back and forth along the stage. Whether or not this is the most “turnt” crowd that he has had all tour is seemingly irrelevant, as Gates is determined to give it his all tonight — with the crowd reciprocating that right back.

Things change up a bit in the set, when he stops to tell the story of a meet and greet, in which a fan requested that he play “Hard For” — so he obliges and dedicates the song to all of his old fans. It’s the first change of pace of the night, as it’s a little bit of a slower track driven by an acoustic guitar. It gives the audience a big of a break, though it’s certainly only temporary. Kevin Gates tells a story between him and Piles, and also tells the men in the audience that they need to recite the lyrics to this next song to their significant others, which is his song with Piles titled “All Thee Above.’

While watching the show, it’s hard to not admire Kevin Gates ability to control and amaze his audience. His engagement with the audience is calculated just right, and they respond with a great cheer every time. Whether it be tracks like “Kno One,” “Stop Lyin,” or the huge sing-a-long that was “Luv Bug,” it’s clear that for this night at least, we’re all living in Gates’ world.

After performing “Love Bug,” Kevin Gates takes a second to apologize to fans for getting too turnt during the track, but quickly says “You know what, Ohio? I’m not sorry.” He then tells fans that he’s from Louisiana and that “Women down there say the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach, getting you to fall in love with them after eating their food,” then turns in an impressive performance of a new song, “Fatal Attraction.”

Afterwards, Kevin Gates candidly talks to the crowd about this part of the show and how he hates it. Gates tells the crowd that he’s not happy every day that he wakes up, sometimes suffering more from his depression than other days, and not wanting to live. He gets a comforting round of applause from the entire crowd, approving of his candidness while there’s undoubtedly those who relate to his words. He then plays the throwback of 2014’s “Perfect Imperfection,” before stopping to tell another personal story that’s integral to his story. This time telling the story of how his best friend shot him in the mouth, and despite not knowing whether it was on purpose or accident, he forgives him regardless, leading into a rousing performance of “4:30 AM.”

Kevin Gates recalls to the audience of the time he came to Ohio and only 10 people showed up. He’s clearly come a long way since then, as there’s thousands of people ion attendance tonight to support the star. He asks for crowd participation for this next song, even starting and pausing the intro until gets high crowd participation. When the crowd gets loud to his satisfaction, “Satellites” kicks off and everyone sings along to the first RIAA certified single of Gates’ impressive career.

The crowd of the night is incredibly eclectic, spreading across the spectrum of age and race, a testament to the power of music in general. But, especially for Kevin Gates, who has had huge singles and crossed into the mainstream world. For him, as he explains to the crowd towards the end of the show, it doesn’t matter when you became a fan. he’s grateful for the support nonetheless, jokingly comparing becoming a fan to drugs saying “Once you get started, you never quit it.”

The end of his set, as you would expect, contains the biggest singles from Kevin Gates to date, pushing through “Really Really” and “Two Phones,” as more smoke and pyrotechnics shoot out in perfect placement during the singles. After “Two Phones,” Gates takes a moment to ask the crowd if they can do a prayer with him. During this time, he prays that everyone gets home safe and that they get everything they ask for, “so long as they’re responsible with it” before perfuming “I Don’t Get Tired” and eventually sending the crowd home satisfied.

Kevin Gates has had a very tumultuous life, and it’s something he’s been very open about in interviews and even through his music. In fact, his new album even details some of his past and how hard he’s worked to become a better person. During his set, he plays songs from his entire catalog, which highlights the life he has lived to this point. Gates has been one of the more intriguing artists to watch over his career, and with his new album and tour, it seems like he’s never been better. He’s firing on all cylinders personally, musically, and with his live shows — culminating in a career that’s currently as impressive as it’s ever been.

Kevin Gates On B.G.: “He Taught Me Damn Near Everything I Know”

Mail

Kevin Gates continues to prove why he’s HIM.

who is kevin gates on tour with

Most recently, the Louisana rapper went viral all over the internet and social media about how snug his jeans were, which he wore for his headlining show at The Novo in Los Angeles. If that’s not enough, he went straight to the gym following the concert, working out in those same jeans and even adding a fedora/hat to the equation.

Kevin Gates recently unveiled his new album titled The Ceremony , which we had the pleasure of attending his album listening in Los Angeles. Kevin has been on tour promoting the project, which hails the fan favorite “Yonce Freestyle” featuring B.G. and Sexxy Red.

who is kevin gates on tour with

The Source had the pleasure of chatting with Kevin Gates backstage after the show to discuss what worked for him in his sobriety, his relatoinship with B.G., and how Sexxy Red landed on the song.

I met you at the Escape Room hella years ago.

I remember, but I don’t remember because I was on drugs. I was on drugs then. I was depressed, I wasn’t happy then.

I’m actually an addict. What is the #1 thing that worked for you when it came to getting sober?

I had to be honest with myself, and it’s something that a lot of people don’t like to do. I looked in the mirror and told myself: “Kevin, you a bitch and you pussy.” Because you care about a drug more than you care about your own self, your own health, your own thoughts, your own everything. I was honest with myself, I don’t need nobody to come pat me on my ass and say, “Hey, it’s okay. The first step is admitting.” Man fuck that! I admit it to myself every time, I can’t find it.

I feel you, and I hear you say that rehab for quitters. But I don’t think a lot of people have the mental strength you do.

I just couldn’t do it. Whenever I was withdrawing off opioids and stuff like that, I just started taking — like the old people used to take hot boiling water and put nutmeg in it. When they put nutmeg in it, they put a little bit of honey and it’ll get the withdrawals. It’ll kill all of the itching, or they’ll take water with lemon and detox themselves like that. You’re going throw up, you’re going through all that, but it’s a fight. It’s supposed to be tough for a reason, because if it ain’t rough, it ain’t us.. Adversity is what builds character.

@shirju9 #kevingates says B.G. #taught him everything he knows 🙏🫶 #foryoupage #fyp ♬ Calm (Lofi) – Faneo sound

“Yonce Freestyle” is my shit. How did that song with B.G. and Sexyy Red come about and how excited were you when B.G. got released from prison?

Me and B.G hadn’t seen each other in 13 or 14 years before he was incarcerated. Him and Boobie — I don’t know if you know Boobie, but that’s my OG. I come up under him, he taught me damn near everything I know. I hate to say this on camera, but Boobie was my babysitter when I was young. That’s what you call a person that takes care of you when you’re a kid? Yeah, my babysitter. He gon’ get mad if I say that, but he taught me a lot. He raised a lot of people in the neighborhood. Him and B.G. had a great relationship and we all know each other. We all from the same city.

How did Sexyy Red get on the song?

She knows somebody, this is before I met her. Somebody sent her the song saying that she would’ve been hard on it. I heard the verse and was like goddamn!

She killed that shit.

Yeah, she’s a monster. Is there a video coming? You guys gotta make one. I think I’ma try. I’ma contact my people and put something together.

Kevin Gates is quite the enigma, but he is talking so we understand.

The rapper shares insights into his latest album, The Ceremony , and also how he has transformed as a man. Backstage as a show in New York City, Gates shares his journey of self-accountability, discipline, and even addiction. He narrates his journey to Brandi Williams , which a fresh face, look and vibration.

Embracing the transformative power of ego-death , Gates expounds on lessons learned about sacred masculinity and the divine feminine, but also his committment to being supremely authentic.

He’s still a people’s champion, but he’s rapidly becoming beacon of hope, a proverbial catalyst for personal growth.

AllHipHop: So, word is this is your most vulnerable album yet, so I wanted to know what did that bring up for you? What new emotions have you experienced or what’s coming up new that you haven’t seen in your last previous albums?

Kevin Gates: It was always me, but I used to vent back then. Now I was just being super transparent, showing people my insecurities and the things that just as a man, you always taught to be tough. And like I said earlier, it takes more courage to show vulnerability than it does to be a tough guy. We all know you faking.

Also, I talking to myself though, when I say that I talk to myself a lot, that’s how I process things. Yeah…

READ ALSO: Kevin Gates Talks Being Blackballed, Loving Big Girls, And His Wellness Journey

AllHipHop: For sure. I mean, that’s a good way of processing things as well. Talking to yourself and being really…

Kevin Gates: Holding yourself accountable. I had to look at myself in the mirror and say, “Hey, you know, you a b#tch right now. You a b#tch. You not honoring the commitments that you made to yourself.” So how are you going to honor the commitments that you’re supposed to make to the universe and everybody else? You have to honor the commitments you make to yourself so you can respect yourself. Right. Discipline equals self-restraint, self-restraint equals self-respect.

AllHipHop: Exactly. Okay. So how would you advise anyone who’s going through any addiction or avoiding self-accountability? Do you have any advice for anyone going through that?

Kevin Gates: Which question?

AllHipHop: Self-accountability. How did you hold yourself accountable in the beginning?

Kevin Gates: Well, I had a way of, my ego was in a way, I had a way of making anything that I was doing seemed like the right thing and I had a way of flipping it and even lying to myself. It was kind of narcissistic in nature until you really realize that everything that goes on in your life is your fault. I’m held responsible for the places that I place myself, and that’s self-accountability. When you don’t lie to yourself and you be honest with yourself and you do the necessary things to remove the distractions, it’s going to be difficult. We love to just procrastinate and distract ourselves with nothingness. And then the other one was addiction.

Anything that you do, they say be conscious of your thoughts because your thoughts become your words. Your words become your actions and your actions become your habits. I wouldn’t say go cold turkey from something that you love. If you say, if you’re drinking alcohol, you love it. It makes you feel good. It is social, it’s cool. I just say, every time that you get the craving or the urge to do that, you replace it with another habit. Don’t just go cold turkey. Replace those habits with healthy habits. It’s your choice in what you want to do. But I got a little trick. I do, like if I’m about to get on Instagram, I drop down and do 25 pushups, 30 pushups. And I do pushups, and then it became a habit. Now when I go places, people look at me like, you’re weird. You’re doing pushups, but look at my body and look at yours.

AllHipHop: So I wanted to know also about your ego-death, because I know that’s a big thing. Honestly, to experience ego death is a very hard…

Kevin Gates: I had my ass really kicked. That’s when I learned about sacred masculinity and the holy divine feminine. And it is a long story, but I’m going to just say I was humbled and I pray that God keeps me humble. So I never had to be humbled like that again. It was very humbling.

AllHipHop: That’s a real experience right there. Okay, and I have one more question for you. So I heard that you’ve never gotten a tattoo covered up. Is that true?

Kevin Gates: No, I never got a tattoo covered up. If I did it, I meant it.

AllHipHop: Right. So I want to know, so I know you’re going on this journey right now with yourself, where it’s like you have all of these new emotions coming up. You’re being more vulnerable and becoming divine masculine, like you mentioned before, sacred masculine. So I wanted to know, how do you deal with going through the process of life and avoiding that feeling of regret?

Kevin Gates: How do I go through the process of life and avoid the feeling of regret? Right? If you do have something that you regret, you go back and you add a positive feeling toward it, you think about it and process it, and honestly look at yourself like a baby. You’re nurturing yourself like, “It’s okay, you made a mistake. Just don’t do it again. It is okay.” I talk to myself like that almost like a baby, and then I go back and place a positive feeling toward it because if it didn’t happen, I wouldn’t be here.

Had this not have happened, this wouldn’t have happened. So look at all the positive and beautiful things that’s going on in my life right now. Those really not even negative things, they was just adversity. Adversity builds character. If it ain’t rough, it ain’t us. If you ain’t tested, it ain’t been through a test, you’re not going to have a testimony. So these was really beautiful things. Now that I look back, I just didn’t understand it when I was going through it. Now I welcome challenges and that’s where fitness come in because when you challenging yourself, you welcome challenges.

Akshay Bhatia improvises, innovates his way to victory at Valero Texas Open

Change Text Size

SAN ANTONIO — On his third night of owning the lead in the Valero Texas Open, Akshay Bhatia had trouble sleeping. His mind raced.

He needed to settle down. He needed to set a goal. He arrived at this: 4-under par on Sunday. That would get him to 19-under for a tournament he had led since his opening-round 63. Nineteen-under, he thought, would be tough to beat. And it would likely get him into the Masters.

As it turns out, it would’ve lost. Denny McCarthy put on a dazzling display of putting on the back nine as Bhatia stacked one quality shot on top of another. Bhatia shot 67. McCarthy shot 63. They finished at 20-under par, nine distant shots from their nearest chaser.

One of them had to win. Bhatia, the improviser and innovator, was that player.

Akshay Bhatia wins in dramatic fashion at Valero

It never looked easy. It wasn’t. Bhatia did what he thought he needed to do, but the back-nine rally from McCarthy was a wildcard. It put him on edge.

“I felt so uncomfortable all day today,” said Bhatia, a creative shot-shaper who works just about every ball he hits. “I got off to a great start and kind of just tried to stick as much as I could to my game plan. But when you see someone charging at you and you’re playing with him, it’s really hard because you feel like you’re just slipping away.”

Bhatia opened his final round with two statement-making birdies, stretching his lead to six. He parred the third, then dripped a 6-foot birdie putt into the heart of the hole at the fourth. Bhatia was 18-under par. He was unflappably locked into his task. Only McCarthy, at 12-under, held the dimmest hope of catching him.

It looked like nothing would matter. The lead felt too great. So did the player who held it.

Bhatia simply never let the stakes crush his focus. He shot a 5-under 67 with the lead and his first Masters invitation in the offing. He flinched once, on the par-4 10 th , missing a 6-foot par putt for his only bogey of the round. But he steadied on the par-4 11 th with his fourth birdie of the round.

“I knew it was a two-man race,” Bhatia said

Then came the flurry. McCarthy birdied all the way home — eight straight from the 12 th hole through the 18 th , each hole chipping away at a lead that was six at the turn. After Bhatia missed a 5-foot birdie putt on the low side, he and McCarthy left the 17 th green tied.

“The putts he made,” Bhatia said, “I mean, that guy has some guts, and he’s going to win a lot of times out here."

Bhatia and McCarthy birdied the 18 th in regulation with 12-foot putts. Both drew the loudest roars of the day.

Akshay Bhatia and Denny McCarthy hole clutch putts to force playoff at Valero

Both players laid up on the first and only sudden-death playoff hole. Then McCarthy inexplicably dumped his 99-yard wedge shot into the creek that runs along the 18 th green. His fifth shot skipped long. Bhatia pitched to 6 feet from 84 yards.

“Let’s go,” Bhatia told himself over the putt to win. “This is kind of your moment.”

He rose to it. When the ball fell, he looked to the sky.

It was Bhatia’s second PGA TOUR victory, but his first in a 72-hole stroke-play start. He won the 2023 Barracuda Championship, an event with a Modified Stableford scoring format held as an Additional Event during The Open Championship. In some respects, his victory at the Valero felt like an affirmation.

“It was just incredible to be able to be in this position,” Bhatia said.

“My mom’s birthday was on April 1, and her wish was to get into the Masters,” Bhatia said. “So I hope I make her proud.”

It wasn’t just her. Bhatia’s fiancé, Presleigh Schultz, met him on the green for a long, tight embrace. It was fitting that Bhatia won the Valero Texas Open, of all tournaments on the schedule. He and Schultz, who’s from Mississippi, met there in 2021. Bhatia messaged her on Instagram when she was a student at Texas A&M. He told her he was playing a golf tournament in San Antonio and invited her to meet him there. She’d never been to a golf tournament before. She went, changing her life and his.

“He believes in himself more than anyone,” said Schultz, who also noted that Bhatia had been telling her all year that they’d be going to the Masters. Even this week.

“I had no doubt,” she said.

There is none now.
