The Journey Across the Night is a suspenseful youth drama directed by Ju Xingmao, led by Joseph Zeng , Yan Zhuoling, Zhou Cheng'ao , and Feng Jianyu , with Wu Qihua, Hei Zi , Li Lizhen, and Ju Xingmao in special appearances, co-starring Gao Xuyang , Shao Yun, Huang Yao, Wang Xinqiao, Liang Chaoman, and Gaorui Feier.

After his mother and brother both suffer from schizophrenia, Li Jia chooses to go study in Hong Kong with the mental pressure of this heavy family history of the disease.

Due to the tight dormitories at the university, he had to rent a room, for which he befriended the quick-witted rental agent Zhang Chacha and his junior brother in anatomy, Shi Cheng.

In the process of looking for housing, he meets Xiao Xi, known as the "Xi Li master" in Jianghu.

Xiao Xi was very capable when he was a child and has already taken on two disciples in his early twenties. Xiao Xi also falls into a different kind of "love affair" with Zhang Chacha.

Since then, Li Jia and the others have encountered a lot of mysterious strangers and a series of complicated stories.

Due to the tightness of the university dorms, he decides to rent a room in the city. Li Jia becomes acquainted with the quirky rental agent Zhang Cha Cha and the anatomy student Shi Cheng. In the process of finding housing, he meets Xiao Xi, a man who is called “sharp master” in jianghu. Knowing that Xiao Xi had extraordinary abilities when he was a child, and that he had already accepted two apprentices in his early twenties when he grew up, Xiao Xi and Zhang Cha Cha fall in love instantly. After, Li Jia and others encounter a series of mysterious and weird “strangers” and many intricate stories.

Ceng Shun Xi 曾舜晞 as Li Jia 李嘉 Li Jia heads to Hong Kong to study and become a graduate student of Chen Ming Xuan, a senior professor of psychiatry. He looks for rent in the city and encounters a series of mysterious strangers.

Yan Zhuo Ling 颜卓灵 as Zhang Cha Cha 张叉叉 A renting agent who claims to be “Hong Kong’s Little Nezha”. On the first day Li Jia arrives in Hong Kong, he rents a room from her, and the two get acquainted.

Zhou Cheng Ao 周澄奥 as Shi Cheng 时诚 A high-achieving anatomical student who deals with bodies every day but is extremely timid. He chose to study medicine because of a girl. Li Jia and Zhang Chacha are his most important people in Hong Kong.

The P-61 Black Widow: America's Secretive Night Hunter of World War II

The P-61 Black Widow, a testament to American ingenuity and aeronautical prowess, emerged from the dark days of World War II as the United States' first aircraft specifically designed to hunt the night skies.

This formidable night-fighter, with its sleek, all-black fuselage and advanced radar technology, soared into military history books as a pioneering force in nocturnal aerial combat.

Conceived amidst the Battle of Britain and the subsequent shift of German bombing raids to the cloak of darkness, the U.S. Army Air Corps recognized the necessity for an aircraft that could patrol for hours and engage enemy bombers under the veil of night.

Jack Northrop's vision materialized with the P-61 Black Widow, an aircraft equipped not only with the means to find and destroy enemy aircraft but also the capability to remain aloft and vigilant for up to seven hours.

The Black Widow's journey from contract to combat was marked by anticipation and innovation. Awarded a contract on January 30, 1941, Northrop's design boasted twin tail booms and rudders, providing the stability needed to track and eliminate intruders.

By May 26, 1942, Northrop's test pilot Vance Breeze took the behemoth, which was nearly the size of a medium bomber, to the skies, proving its agility and combat readiness. Despite its size, the P-61 was restricted only from outside loops, sustained inverted flight, and deliberate spins.

Armed with a deadly combination of four 20mm cannons and four .50 cal. machine guns, the Black Widow's arrival on the front lines was eagerly awaited. Production hurdles, including supply issues for the top turret, delayed its deployment, but by October 1943, the first P-61s were rolling off the line, quickly transitioning from defensive roles to aggressive night intruders after their arrival in Europe in March 1944.

As the war raged on, the Black Widow claimed its first aerial victory on June 30, 1944, when a P-61 named "Moon Happy" downed a Mitsubishi G4M Betty bomber over Saipan. It wasn't long before the Black Widow's presence dominated the night skies, amassing 127 confirmed aerial victories across the European, Mediterranean, Pacific, and China-Burma-India theaters.

One particular P-61, dubbed "Lady in the Dark," became legendary for forcing a Japanese Ki-43 OSCAR into fatal crashes, without firing a single shot. The first incident occurred on the night of August 14-15, in the uncertain hours following Japan's surrender.

As peace returned, the P-61's role evolved. The cancellation of further production led to the Black Widow's adaptation for reconnaissance and scientific tasks. A variant, the F-15A, excelled in photographic surveys, while select P-61Cs contributed to meteorological research as part of the Thunderstorm Project.

Ultimately, the end of WWII ushered in the twilight of the P-61's military service, with many transitioning to the Air Force surplus by 1950. Yet, even in retirement, the Black Widow's legacy endured through the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA), which utilized the aircraft for high-altitude aerodynamic research until 1954.

Capitol Theater’s revival journey continues in downtown Burlington with new additions

BURLINGTON, Iowa (KWQC) - The historic Capitol Theater in downtown Burlington, sat silent and forgotten for decades. However, this once-forgotten gem is now reclaiming its position as a vibrant entertainment hub.

“We had to reimagine what this space could be. Beautiful space, but it couldn’t just be a theater,” said Capitol Theater executive director Tammy McCoy.

In 1937, the Capitol Theater opened its doors, marking the beginning of an era of cinematic delight in Burlington.

“Until 1977. It played the movie Carrie, and that was the last movie to be played. And, and then it was shut down for several years, then a few concerned citizens decided that this place mattered and wanted to renovate it and bring it back to life,” McCoy said.

After years of renovation, The Capitol reopened in 2012, with a focus on Entertainment, Education, and Social Connectivity.

“I see it as a place where people can come in and feel like they belong here. And that they’re going to find someone else here. Maybe that they know where maybe that they don’t know and just have an opportunity to enjoy life and to have a place that they feel is always going to be here for them,” McCoy said.

Since its reopening, The Capitol has thrived, drawing in a diverse crowd of patrons spanning all ages and interests.

“We’re attracting a very diverse crowd,” McCoy said. “They love the space. They love the variety of music that we’re providing. There’s just a little something for everyone here.”

This year, in a move to further enrich its offerings, the theater has introduced the Night Cap Listening Lounge and bar, offering jazz sessions, comedy nights, and more.

“We also do a speakeasy night, once a quarter. And we have live jazz music for that. We do drink specials. And we are open here and nightcap when we have a live performance going on the stage in the theater side. With drink specials that kind of coordinate with the theme of what music is being played,” McCoy explained.

But the transformation journey doesn’t end here. The Capitol’s second floor is undergoing a two-year renovation to create space for youth programs, college classes, a kitchen for pop-up restaurant nights, and a black box theater, which will have about 120 seats.

“Nightcap seats about 50. And our theater seats about 365. So, we have different sizes of venues available,” McCoy said. “It will also be an attraction to bring not just people visiting Burlington, but maybe somebody who wants to maybe relocate to Burlington, knowing that there’s really cool things to do here.”

However, to realize this vision, additional funds are required. Staff say they are gearing up for fundraising efforts to secure the additional one million dollars needed to complete the renovation project.
