I've just signed up for a season ticket loan with my employer and they use Abellio Corporate Travel as the provider. I'm a bit confused as to why as surely it's not hard for the loan to be paid to the employee and they go and purchase the annual ticket themselves from their local station? Nevertheless, it is what it is. I made it clear I wanted paper tickets and not a smart-card which they seemed accommodating about that, as well as allowing me to split my season ticket so it works out cheaper. Does anyone know if the tickets will be issued on standard paper tickets, i.e. blue cards? I've tried looking online but can't see anything. Are they accepted on Northern services?

Many companies use corporate travel providers: - Makes their accounting easier - Your employer probably gets a rebate, especially if they use the same travel provider for hotels, flights etc - The company has an idea of where its people are. This is not an issue for an employee season ticket loan but in my company we can have people anywhere on the world on business. If a situation kicks off somewhere (like a terrorist attack) then knowing where people are means it is easier to help them. The contract signed between your employer and travel provider will probably oblige them to put as much business as piossible through them.

My loan was provided cash and I was asked to submit evidence of having bought the season ticket within a month of the application being approved. Most loans are of a value that they would need to be signed off internally by someone higher than a direct line manager anyway. There's little scope for fraud with such an approach, but of course using a corporate travel provider does reduce risk further. It may make sense for the largest businesses who receive more requests for loans, and of higher value.

Thank you for the insights everyone. I’ve just received the season tickets in question and they’ve printed my annual GM Traincard paper ticket on SystemOne Rail & Bus stock. Is that standard procedure?

About Abellio Corporate Travel (ACT)

ACT partners with over 400 clients to promote commuting by public transport. By providing access to their platform ACTnow, ACT streamlines the important employee benefit of a season ticket loan.  ACTnow allows the employee to order the season ticket they need, then HR or Payroll approve the loan amount.  Once approved, the employee receives their season ticket loaded onto a smart card the following day.

FAQ categories

General smartcard, monthly auto-renewal.

  • Apply for a Touch Smartcard online
  • Email [email protected] with the last eight numbers of your SWR smartcard, plus copies of your photocard and current season ticket
  • Our team will then help load it onto your new Touch Smartcard

We always advise customers to touch in and touch out on the yellow readers when using their smartcard. If you don’t touch in and touch out, we will not be able to allocate the correct ticket or charge the correct fare.

Smartcard customers can also benefit from Automated Delay Repay , which uses the taps from a customer’s journey. If you have Tap2Go on your smartcard and you have not touched in or touched out, please click here  for more information.

Yes. You will need to wait until you are due to renew your Season Ticket and you have received the renewal reminder email. This will enable you to change your payment card details and renew at the same time.

No, auto-renewal is only available for a fixed duration of one calendar month.

Your auto-renewal is set up for the same journey, and class of travel every month. If you need to change any part of your Season Ticket journey, you will need to cancel your existing automatic payment and set up a new one when you purchase your new Season Ticket. Any changes made will affect your free ticket offer and the count will start again when the new changed Season Ticket starts. Any previous tickets bought will be exempt from the offer.

A renewal reminder will be sent as normal allowing you to change the collection station or the start date. Your ticket will then be processed and added to your Touch Smartcard as normal, but your payment card will not be charged.

You will need to contact our Customer Services team on 0345 6000 650 who will arrange the refund. You will also need to cancel the automatic payment set up in ‘ My Account ’ unless you want to resume travelling with the same journey the following month. Any refunds made will affect the free ticket offer and the count will start from the beginning when the next Season Ticket is bought.

Yes, you can add any of the following Railcards to your Tap2Go account to have your journeys discounted:

  • Annual Goldcard
  • Jobcentre Plus Discount Card

Once registered for Tap2Go, add the details of your Railcard, and an image of your Railcard, under the “Manage Your Railcard” section of your SWR account.

We will verify the information and approve or reject the application within 5 days. Your Tap2Go journeys will then be discounted from the date of approval. Don’t forget to always carry your Railcard with you.

You’ll need to sign into My Account and select Tap2Go from the menu. Click the option to “Close account”, tick the box to confirm you wish to close your Tap2Go account and then submit.

It takes over 10 business days to close and Tap2Go will stop working on your smartcard.

It can take up to 7 days to finalise the value of your ticket when using Tap2Go as it’s based on your actual travel. You should claim Delay Repay in the usual way, however the value of the compensation payment cannot be completed until the ticket value is finalised.

If you are opted into Auto Delay Repay, when the claim is triggered you will receive an email from us explaining that we believe you have been delayed and are therefore entitled to compensation. You will be invited to review and complete your claim, however the value of compensation will not be known until the ticket value is finalised as it’s based on your actual travel.
