Duran Duran Announce 2023 Headline UK and Ireland Arena Tour Dates

The FUTURE PAST Tour Continues From Saturday 29th April, 2023 At Manchester’s AO Arena // Tickets On Sale From 25th November 10:00am GMT Here

Feature-Length Docu-Concert Film ‘A Hollywood High’ To Air Globally Watch On Streaming Platform Veeps From December 18th - January 2nd Tickets On Sale Here | Watch Trailer Here

Fifteenth Studio Album, ‘FUTURE PAST (COMPLETE EDITION)’ Out November 25th. Pre-Order Here

2022 has seen Duran Duran celebrate a landmark year. The band have just been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame, a career peak that follows a summer live season of epic proportions - headlining London’s Hyde Park, performing at the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Concert at Buckingham Palace, closing the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games in their home town of Birmingham, a headline tour across North America which included sold out shows at New York’s Madison Square Garden and three nights at the Hollywood Bowl, and the cinematic release of new docu-concert film, ‘A Hollywood High’. All this after the huge success of new studio album FUTURE PAST, hailed as Duran Duran at their best by critics and fans alike, four decades into their rich and storied career.

Today, the celebrations continue as Duran Duran announce the FUTURE PAST tour will extend with six huge headline arena shows across the UK and Ireland through Spring of 2023, beginning at Manchester’s AO Arena on April 29, with dates at London’s O2 Arena, Leeds’ First Direct Arena, Birmingham’s Utilita Arena, and the 3 Arena in Dublin. More activity is soon to be announced.

Simon Le Bon said: “2022 has been an extraordinary year for Duran Duran - mainly down to the incredible fans we have around the world. In July we celebrated our years together at Hyde Park as part of the British Summer Time Festival. Next Spring we will be back on home soil once again to continue the party. It’s remarkable to me that as a band, we are still hitting new milestones, still able to introduce the sound of DD to new generations of music lovers. We are truly grateful that we get to do what we do on a daily basis, and that we still love our job as much as we did when we started out some four decades ago."

Tickets will go on pre-sale to DD VIP members from Tuesday 22nd November at 10:00am GMT and General On-Sale from Friday 25th November at 10:00am GMT here . All details can be found in the pre-sale section of the MEMBERS tab at www.duranduran.com . Other pre-sales will follow.

Following an exceptional run of cinema screenings across 35 countries, with spectacular premieres at the legendary Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles and the Vue West End Cinema in London, Duran Duran’s feature length docu-concert film ‘A Hollywood High’ will stream on-demand globally via Veeps from December 18th - January 2nd.

The film immortalises Duran Duran’s peerless live show with a stunning rooftop performance taped in Los Angeles, and brings to life the band’s deep and important relationship with the city through exclusive new interviews, behind-the-scenes video and unseen archival footage, charting their rise to becoming one of the most successful and influential bands of all time.

Fans around the world will be able to experience the film from the comfort of their homes via a premium, ultra-high-definition viewing experience through Veeps.com or the Veeps app on Apple TV, Roku, iOS, and Android.

‘A Hollywood High’ is the first Veeps show to be enabled with 4K / UHD, Dolby Digital & Atmos (the highest possible quality, cinema-grade sound and vision available), as well as closed captions and subtitles. Tickets for the stream are available at DuranDuran.veeps.com .

With each stream ticket sold via Veeps, special bundle packages are available, including A Hollywood High Cap, T-shirt, exclusive poster, and a very special limited-edition movie program ‘magazine’, complete with two 7-inch Flexi discs, which feature ‘Ordinary World’ and ‘Tonight United’ live audio from the movie.

Closing an extraordinary year for Duran Duran, a deluxe edition of new studio album ‘FUTURE PAST (Complete Edition)’ will be released on November 25th via BMG. The 2LP set includes all 15 tracks from FUTURE PAST plus Duran Duran’s cover of David Bowie’s “Five Years”. The first LP is red, the second is green. Ed Sheeran announces UK and Europe arena tour – kicking off this month

This comes after the announcement of new album '-' (Subtract)

Ed Sheeran

Ed Sheeran has surprised fans by announcing details of a UK and European arena tour that kicks off later this month. Check out full dates and ticket details below.

The news comes after the singer-songwriter today (March 1) announced details of new album ‘-‘ (‘Subtract’) , his fifth LP to date and the final in his “mathematical album era” of records named after symbols.

To launch and celebrate the new material, Sheeran will be playing dates in Manchester, London, Glasgow and Dublin this month, with a once-off show in Paris in April. These are Sheeran’s only scheduled UK and European shows for 2023.

Fans can pre-order the album before 9am on Tuesday 7 March via Sheeran’s official website here to gain early access to the ticket pre-sale before tickets go on sale at 9am on Friday 10 March and will be available here .

MARCH Thursday 23 – Manchester, AO Arena Friday 24 – London, The O2 Saturday 25 – London, The O2 Tuesday 28– Glasgow, Hydro Arena   Thursday 30 – Dublin, 3Arena APRIL Sunday 2 – Paris, Accor Arena

Ed Sheeran has announced details of a UK and Ireland tour kicking off this month. Credit: Press

Sheeran’s new album is the follow-up to 2021’s ‘ =’ , and is released on May 5 via Asylum/Atlantic. ‘-‘ is described in press material as the “last in his decade-spanning mathematical album era” and is an acoustic-driven album that was written and rewritten against a backdrop of personal turmoil.

Recommended

Aaron Dessner  of  The National  teamed up with Sheeran on writing and production.

“I had been working on ‘Subtract’ for a decade, trying to sculpt the perfect acoustic album, writing and recording hundreds of songs with a clear vision of what I thought it should be,” said Sheeran of the record. “Then at the start of 2022, a series of events changed my life, my mental health, and ultimately the way I viewed music and art.

He continued: “Writing songs is my therapy. It helps me make sense of my feelings. I wrote without thought of what the songs would be, I just wrote whatever tumbled out. And in just over a week, I replaced a decade’s worth of work with my deepest darkest thoughts.”

Earlier this year  Sheeran told fans that a “turbulent” time in his life had stopped him engaging with social media , but he didn’t detail what those troubles were.

Now, he has spoken of how “within the space of a month, my pregnant wife got told she had a tumour, with no route to treatment until after the birth. My best friend Jamal [Edwards], a brother to me, died suddenly and I found myself standing in court defending my integrity and career as a songwriter. I was spiralling through fear, depression and anxiety.

“I felt like I was drowning, head below the surface, looking up but not being able to break through for air.”

Ed Sheeran

The news follows  reports that Sheeran declined to perform at King Charles’ coronation  this May.

Elsewhere,  the soloist recently launched ‘Tingly Teds’, his own range of hot sauce .

The immersive experience extends for another 2 years.

In June of this year, we announced that The War of The Worlds: The Immersive Experience would be relocating to a new London venue, however, soon after our announcement, we had the wonderful and unexpected opportunity to remain at Leadenhall Street for a further two years, which we couldn’t say ‘no’ to. The licensing deal will not only see the experience remain at the original venue but also, as part of the evolving partnership, the production is receiving upgrades including new music sequences and sound design originated by Jeff Wayne, seamlessly integrated into new visual moments in the show. Originally planned for a 3-month run, here we are, almost five years later, and heading for seven. No one would have believed!

18th November 2021

Life begins again release.

Jeff Wayne's The War of The Worlds is very proud to announce the release of 'Life Begins Again', a song for the times, performed by the cast of the 2022 arena tour:

Strictly Come Dancing's Kevin Clifton , Blue's Duncan James, Steps' Claire Richards , Inglorious' Nathan James, Stage & Screen's Anna-Marie Wayne and The Moody Blues' Justin Hayward.

But why a song for the times? Well, while the world has faced many challenges in recent years, commitment and faith remain at the heart of our chance for the future.

Life can, and will, begin again.

Clubland announce huge throwback arena tour that will take you back to your youth

Dance down memory lane with this time warp of a gig next year.

Danny Jones

Clubland have announced a massive UK arena tour to mark their 20th anniversary and, my word, it’s an absolute throwback.

As revealed on Monday, the iconic legendary record label and album series is holding Re-live the Night of Your Life tour to celebrate 20 years of club anthems, the first live arena tour in over a decade.

Featuring the likes of Cascada, Scooter, BassHunter; Ultrabeat, DJ Sammy, a Darren Style DJ set and more, you’ll be transported back in time as you party through non-stop noughties bangers.

Here is your full Clubland 2023 Arena Tour line-up:

The Clubland compilation albums began way back in 2002 and went on to become the iconic umbrella brand for an entire movement of commercial dance music.

Clubland albums went on to sell in excess of 30 million copies and became the market leader in dance music during this time, even managing to outsell Cream and even Ministry of Sound.

Then, in 2008, the first Clubland Live was launched, playing to tens of thousands of people across the UK in packed arenas – the first time most club and dance music had headlined in such venues.

There were a further 2 sold-out tours in the following couple of years which many fans coined as ‘The Night of Your Life’. Now, all this time later, the winning formula of those noughties shows is back with the Re-live the Night of Your Life Clubland Arena Tour 2023.

The Clubland 2023 tour dates are as follows:

  • Thu 30 March – Glasgow, OVO Hydro
  • Fri 31 March – Aberdeen, P&J Live
  • Sat 01 April – Newcastle, Utilita Arena
  • Thu 06 April – Cardiff, International Arena
  • Fri 07 April – Sheffield, Utilita Arena
  • Sat 08 April – Manchester, AO Arena
  • Blossoms fans are buzzing for Manchester dates after amazing surprise appearances in London
  • Gary Neville is taking The Overlap Live on tour with Roy Keane, Jamie Carragher and more
  • Noel Gallagher announces major homecoming gig at Wythenshawe Park

To make each night even more special, there are some artists that will only be appearing on select nights. Lucky for you, Manchester ‘s Clubland line-up is a belter:

Clubland @ AO Arena Vengaboys  / Basshunter  / * Secret Headliner To Be Announced * / LMC ft Rachel McFarlane / Ultrabeat ft Rebecca Rudd  / Kelly Llorenna  /Flip n Fill ft Karen Parry

Stockport’s proudly independent Moovin’ Festival is back on the farm this summer for its 10th anniversary edition.

The beloved local music event, which takes over Whitebottom Farm in the picturesque Etherow Country Park, has announced its full line-up for this year’s celebration.

Moovin’ Festival 2024 will include headline performances from Leftfield and legendary DJ Laurent Garnier, plus Sampa the Great, Erol Alkan, Crazy P, David Rodigan, Souls of Mischief, Mr Scruff, Greg Wilson, Jaguar Skills, Congo Natty, Ray Keith, DRS, Nicky Blackmarket, Nubiyan Twist, K Klass and many more innovative bands, DJs and live acts from across the spectrum.

Taking place over the August bank holiday weekend, Moovin will also bring together up and coming local performers and events like circus performances, yoga sessions, holistic treatments, and ethically sourced cuisine.

Widely considered one of the region’s best music events, Moovin has gone from being ‘Manchester’s best kept secret’ to a staple in the calendar every year.

The festival pitches itself as an ‘exceptional celebration of sonic brilliance, eclectic music, and quirkiness, set in a beautiful and intimate environment’.

The packed line-up will take places in the stunning surroundings of the eco-friendly Whitebottom Farm, where spaces to be discovered include a hidden oasis adorned with lush trees, serene lakes, and a captivating gorge plus stages like the iconic Barn Stage, a spacious cow shed with cosy hay bales for relaxation.

The ‘adult playground of music and magic’ features state-of-the-art sound systems and a relaxed ambiance.

French techno legend and scene hero Laurent Garnier will be among the headliners – a rare chance to catch this pioneering artist who isn’t frequently touring these days.

He will be joined by Leftfield, fellow icons in the scene who have put out seminal albums, lay down heavy techno beats and have endless classic hits in their arsenal.

Iconic hip-hop group Souls of Mischief and reggae legend David Rodigan, along with Afro beats pioneer and global star Sampa The Great are also on the bill for Moovin’ 2024.

Moovin regular and Hacienda legend Graeme Park makes a welcome return to celebrate 40 years in the scene, Congo Natty celebrates 30 years as a pioneer of the jungle revolution, Erol Alkan brings his raucous mix of indie dance sounds, Crazy P will play a DJ set that explores all forms of disco, and Prince Fatty & Horseman will lay down their dub sounds.

The line-up continues with the captivating sounds of Nubiyan Twist, the infectious beats of K Klass, and the mesmerising performance artistry of Oh My God It’s the Church and their unique gospel sound.

Dub FX is set to deliver an electrifying performance that will keep the crowd moving, while Moovin residents DJ Paulette, Mr. Scruff, Krafty Kuts, Greg Wilson, and Jaguar Skills are back to showcase their unparalleled talents on the turntables as they traverse the world of disco, funk, hip hop, breaks, soul, jazz, and plenty in between.

Fans of drum & bass and jungle music are in for a treat once more with heavyweight offerings from DRS, Ray Keith, DJ Randall, Nicky Blackmarket, Mark XTC, and many more.

DJ Paulette says: “Whenever I get to play Moovin Festival it’s a highlight of my festival calendar. As soon as I see the waterfall I feel like I’m home. The crowd is just beautiful and tech energy is electric.”

Groove Armada said: “At the bottom of a tree lined valley, a hay barn with a fat sound-system. A freewheeling crowd, no VIP red ropes, no hassle , just music and good vibes. 90s free party? No its the brilliant Moovin’ festival.”

And Graeme Park commented: “I absolutely adore DJing at Moovin’. It’s truly a unique and magical experience with totally incredible vibes!”

Co-op Live Manchester guide important info

The brand spanking new Co-op Live Arena finally opens this week and while it might be a touch later than expected, it’s still a huge deal for Manchester and the region as a whole.

While the inaugural pair of shows by British comedy legend Peter Kay might have been postponed due to unexpected power supply problems, that’s exactly what test events are for and Co-Op Live is still due to open its doors to the public later this Saturday as they welcome The Black Keys.

Boasting a jam-packed and ambitious programme already, with shows lined up well into 2025, there’s a lot to take in and as always with new venues, it can be helpful to know all the important details before your first visit – and we’re all in that boat in this case.

But don’t worry, we’ve got you sorted with a whirlwind guide to the Co-op Live .

View this post on Instagram A post shared by THE MANC (@the.manc)

Everything you need to know about Co-op Live Manchester

Let’s start with why everyone’s getting so excited. Well not only is it going to become the UK’s biggest indoor entertainment venue and one of the biggest in Europe full stop, boasting a maximum capacity of 23,500 people but, like the newly opened Aviva Studios , it’s also set to bring huge revenue into the city.

All told, the total cost of the venue has clocked at approximately £365 million, making it one of the most expensive buildings to ever be erected in the region.

With the arena promising to rival not only the biggest and best venues in Manchester but the UK in general, they are looking to “ change the way business is done within the music, sports and live entertainment industry “.

Attracting not only huge artists, comedians and other live acts but now even the likes of the UFC later this year, it really is poised to be an all-purpose entertainment space.

It's official, the @ufc is finally coming back to Manchester! 👊 A huge coup for @TheCoopLive . 🔥 #UFC304 @UFCEurope https://t.co/BZTqttd0Zp — The Manc (@TheMancUK) April 24, 2024

Who is Co-op Live backed by?

So who exactly is behind this huge new addition to the city? Well, there are a few big names involved, first and foremost the City Football Group (yes that one – they are neighbours after all).

Man City owner and UAE royal Sheikh Mansour has put forward the lion’s share along with the Oakview Music Group, co-founded by American music mogul and ex-Ticketmaster CEO, Irving Azoff.

Thirdly, another key investor who has played a big role in the marketing for Co-op Live, in case you haven’t already seen him in the promos, is Harry Styles .

Putting in an undisclosed amount into the building as a minority equity shareholder along with Emma Spring, co-director of his record label Erskine Records, Emma Spring, his brand alone is set to help rake in big sums for the venue.

We know that you've been waiting to hear from him… A big thanks to Harry Styles for sending us this message💙 pic.twitter.com/pgocTdT39X — Co-op Live (@TheCoopLive) April 23, 2024

Those drink prices…

Yep, a lot of you will have surely heard about them already and if you haven’t about Co-op Live’s drinks prices yet, you might want to sit down for this one.

As confirmed by many accounts on social media, the cheapest pints available at the flashy new arena are £8.35 for a Grolsch, with Guinness, Asahi and Salfordian brewers Seven Brothers ‘ IPA all setting you back £8.95. Double pints are priced at £16.35 and £17.45.

If you’re looking to save money with bottles or cans, you’ll still be paying around seven quid and wine will cost you £8.95 or £9.25 for 187ml or 200ml servings, respectively. A bottle of vino clocks in at £35 and sprits range anywhere between £9.50 and a whopping £17.40 for a tequila. Yikes.

You’re better off sticking to a soft drink at £4.80 for a pint and that way you can still save money in case you need a bite to eat, as pies are £8.25 and you’ll have to cough up £11.50 if you want a burger. We’ll let you draw your own conclusions on this front, though we’re sure we could make an educated guess.

Seating chart and venue map

co-op live venue

You’ll find the typical arrangement for seated events and standing gigs above but, like most modern event spaces like this, the ‘top-in-class’ venue will likely be able to shuffle into different configurations where needed.

As you can see, there a three main tiers – the ground floor standing area in the lower bowl, level one seating and the upper tier – and there are a total of 32 bars, restaurants and various lounges wrapped into the entire complex.

When it comes to how you get into the arena itself, guests are encouraged to consult their gate (A-G) allocation through their tickets on the dedicated Co-op Live app , which also includes all info regarding shows and the latest announcements from the venue.

Here’s a wider look at the lay of the land:

How to get to Co-op Live, parking and more

Now, as for how you’ll get to shows at Co-op Live, luckily it’s right next door to a rather famous big blue stadium and its integrated Metrolink stop.

Head along the light blue or orange lines directly to the Etihad Campus or Ashton-under-Lyne and you can get off the tram literally spitting distance from the arena. You can find the full map HERE .

Trams run frequently on the Ashton-Eccles line to the Etihad Campus stop, with services leaving every six minutes from the city centre and until 01:00 on Fridays and Saturdays.

If you want to take another new and improved arm of the Bee Network public transport system, not only is there a whole host of routes that drop you off close to the venue but there’ll also be a free shuttle bus from the city centre to and from events between 20 April-30 June 2024.

You can find the full list of bus routes HERE , with the one in closest proximity to the venue being the 53 bus which runs from Cheetham Hill through to Higher Crumpsall, Old Trafford and Pendleton, leaving just a two-minute walk to Co-op Live.

Better still, as part of Manchester City Council and TfGM embracing the new addition to the skyline, they’re also helping cover the costs of people’s journeys when using public transport.

Co-op Live and TfGM to offer FREE trams and buses to and from new arena for all event ticket holders

Getting there by car and parking

If you’re driving, there is limited parking available at the venue but this must be pre-booked ahead of time. Parking will be released up to 4 weeks before the event and there are designated drop-off areas.

The postcode is M11 3DU and you can follow the signs towards the wider Etihad Campus as you get closer; directions to the adjacent drop-off points will also be signposted.

Keep in mind that congestion on the roads close to the Etihad Campus is expected to gather around two hours prior to any event, so if you are travelling on the road, these are the suggested times they provide come event day – though estimates will obviously vary:

  • Alan Turing Way (both directions): plan an additional 20 minutes into any journey by road.
  • Hyde Road (eastbound): expect an additional 15 minutes to be added to your journey.
  • Mancunian Way (westbound): plan for an extra 10 minutes of travel time.

There are also three park-and-ride facilities near Co-op Live but be advised that the Velopark and Holt Town stops will be closed post-event to help safely manage crowds:

  • Ashton Moss  (Ashton line) – 183 spaces and 12 disabled spaces
  • Ashton West  (Ashton line) – 184 spaces and 11 disabled spaces
  • Ladywell  (Ashton-Eccles line) – 332 spaces and 22 disabled spaces

Lastly, it’s also just a half-hour stroll from Manchester Piccadilly and you could even walk along the canal all the way to the front door if you fancy taking the scenic route.

Greater Manchester now also offers the option to hire bikes through the Beryl , with riders able to locate, unlock, get to their destination and then safely lock up the boke all through an easy-to-use app. There are hire points just near the south-west corner of the Etihad Stadium on Ashton New Road.

For more information on all travel options, you can check out the enhanced  journey planner .

Co-op Live opening and closing times

While times will obviously change depending on the show, you can expect doors to open around the standard window between 6-7pm.

That being said, the venue is urging visitors to arrive at evening events in the main bowl no later than 9pm. As for curfew, Co-op Live gigs are due to finish by 11pm unless otherwise stated.

Accessibility info

One thing they’re taking very seriously at the Co-op Live is accessibility and after teaming up with disability charity Attitude Is Everything , you can find a full guide to access the arena HERE .

Having installed lowered service counters, step-free access to all floors, a designated respite room, support for assistance dogs, hearing loops for those with aids/implants, ambulant seating and plenty more, they’ve got it covered so all you have to do is come along and enjoy the show.

And that just about wraps up everything we can think when it comes to what you need to know ahead of Co-op Live’s grand opening at the end of this month.

It’s set to be a world-leading venue and we can’t wait to see it lit up in its full glory when the first acts roll through the doors of big shiny black box this weekend.

Speaking of, once the action is underway, there’ll be a lot of acts coming thick and fast. It’s a new era for Manchester’s live music and entertainment scene.

Greta Van Fleet announce November 2023 UK & Ireland tour

They're playing four arenas

Frankenmuth classic rock revivalists Greta Van Fleet have lined up a four-date UK & Ireland arena tour for November 2023.

Part of the European leg of the band’s Starcatcher World Tour, which kicks off in Nashville in July, Greta Van Fleet play London OVO Arena Wembley, Dublin 3Arena, Manchester AO Hydro and Glasgow OVO Hydro. Support at all four shows come from Los Angeles indie rockers Mt. Joy.

Tickets to the UK dates go on sale from Planet Rock Tickets at 10am on Friday 21st April 2023.

The Starcatcher World Tour follows the Friday 21st July release of Greta Van Fleet’s new studio album ‘Starcatcher.’

The 10-track album feature the recently premiered lead single ‘Meeting the Master’. The band says of the track: “‘Meeting The Master’ peers into an esoteric world heeded by the word of a wise teacher.

“Sung in the voice of a devout believer, and eventual group exclamation, the song details the love these fervent followers have for their teacher and their firm belief in his vision. It’s an exotic spiritual journey. A dark comedy that inevitably ends in chaos.”

‘Starcatcher’ is written and recorded by Greta Van Fleet - lead singer Josh Kizska, guitarist Jake Kizska, bassist/keyboardist Sam Kizska and drummer Danny Wagner - alongside Grammy-winning producer Dave Cobb (Chris Stapleton, Brandi Carlile).

A concept album of sorts, ‘Starcatcher’ explores the duality of fantasy versus reality and the contrast between light and darkness.

“We had this idea that we wanted to tell these stories to build a universe,” says Danny Wagner. “We wanted to introduce characters and motifs and these ideas that would come about here and there throughout our careers through this world.”

Sam Kizska says: “When I imagine the world of Starcatcher, I think of the cosmos. It makes me ask a lot of questions, like ‘Where did we come from?’ or ‘What are we doing here?’ But it’s also questions like, ‘What is this consciousness that we have, and where did it come from?’”

Greta Van Fleet’s UK & Ireland tour dates:

NOVEMBER 2023

London OVO Arena Wembley – Tue 14th

Dublin 3Arena – Thu 16th

Glasgow OVO Hydro – Mon 20th

28 rock bands named after real people, including greta van fleet:.

Rock legends Pink Floyd took their moniker from the given names of two Piedmont blues artists that Syd Barrett had in his record collection, Pink Anderson and Floyd Council.

Lynyrd Skynyrd

Southern rockers Lynyrd Skynyrd are named after high school gym teacher Leonard Skinner who taught Ronnie Van Zant, Gary Rossington, and Bob Burns at Robert E. Lee High School in Florida in the 1960s. Skinner was reportedly notorious for enforcing the school's policy against boys having long hair, and the Lynyrd Skynyrd band name was seen as an act of rebellion against him.

The Yardbirds

The influential British band's name was partially inspired by the nickname of American jazz saxophonist Charlie 'Yardbird' Parker. It's also the name given to rail yard hobos in Jack Kerouac's 1957 novel On the Road.

New York punk trailblazers Ramones were named by Dee Dee Ramone (Douglas Glenn Colvin) after Paul McCartney's briefly adopted pseudonym Paul Ramon in his Silver Beetles days in 1960.

The Hollies

The Hollies' co-founder Graham Nash revealed in a 2009 interview that they coined their band just moments before they were due to step on stage at the Oasis Club in Manchester in December 1962. The name comes from their admiration for Buddy Holly.

The Hollies - Buddy Holly

Rock legend Buddy Holly in the late 1950s who inspired The Hollies band name. He died aged just 22 in the 3rd February 1959 plane crash that also claimed the lives of Ritchie Valens, "The Big Bopper" J. P. Richardson and their pilot Roger Peterson. It was later known as 'The Day the Music Died.'

Previously called City Kidd, the Sacramento rockers renamed themselves Tesla in homage to inventor and electrical engineer Nikola Tesla during the recording of their debut album 'Mechanical Resonance' in 1986. Some of the band's song and album titles nod towards Nikola Tesla too.

Tesla - Nikola Tesla

Jethro Tull

With Ian Anderson struggling to settle on a name for his band in the late 1960s (names included Navy Blue, Ian Henderson's Bag o' Nails, and Candy Coloured Rain), a member of the band's booking agent's staff christened them Jethro Tull after the 18th-century agriculturist.

Jethro Tull, who helped to bring about the British Agricultural Revolution of the 18th century. He perfected a horse-drawn seed drill in 1701 that economically sowed the seeds in neat rows, and later developed a horse-drawn hoe. What a guy!

Creedence Clearwater Revival

In 1967 the band toyed with renaming themselves Muddy Rabbit, Gossamer Wump, and Creedence Nuball and the Ruby, however they settled on Creedence Clearwater Revival with the 'Creedence' a nod towards guitarist Tom Fogerty's friend Credence Newball.

Crazy Horse

Formerly known as The Rockets, the American band became known as Crazy Horse in 1969 when they first teamed up with Neil Young. The band was named after the 19th Century Sioux Tribe leader Crazy Horse.

The Crazy Horse Memorial in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Work began on the sculpture in 1948 and it's still unfinished.

Billy Gibbons took direct inspiration from blues artists BB King and ZZ Hill as he liked the way the initials sounded in their stage names. He was initially going to call his band ZZ King but became concerned it sounded to similar to the original artist. Gibbons ultimately settled on ZZ Top as he remarked the "king is at the top."

Greta Van Fleet

The retrogressive rockers are named after a bluegrass musician called Gretna VanFleet, who hails from their home town of Frankenmuth, Michigan. Although Greta Van Fleet didn't initially ask her for permission, the 93-year-old subsequently gave them her blessing.

Molly Hatchet

Just like their fellow Jacksonville rockers Lynyrd Skynyrd, Molly Hatchet were named after a real person. Molly Hatchet's moniker is more steeped in history, however, as they're named after an infamous 17th-century axe murderess dubbed 'hatchet molly'.

Leicester indie rockers Kasabian take their name from Linda Kasabian who was a member of Charles Manson's cult, the Manson Family, in the late 1960s and 1970s. Linda Kasabian was present at both the Tate and LaBianca murders committed by the cult in 1969, but received immunity for her testimony as a key witness in the trial of Manson.

Dead Kennedys

The politicised punk rockers' somewhat controversial name references the deceased members of the Kennedy family, including the assassinated President John F. Kennedy. Guitarist East Bay Ray said they weren't trying to insult the Kennedys. "The assassinations were in much more poor taste than our band," he argued. "We actually respect the Kennedy family. When JFK was assassinated, when Martin Luther King was assassinated, when RFK was assassinated, the American Dream was assassinated. Our name is actually homage to the American Dream."

Dead Kennedys - John F Kennedy

The 35th president of the United States, John F. Kennedy, who was assassinated in November 1963.

Kings of Leon

He explained in 1999: "My brother Jim beat up my younger brother Ed, and Jim ran into his room and locked his door, and Ed drew this picture that said 'Jimmy Eat World', and it was a picture of him eating the world. My brother Jim is kind of a big guy. A stupid name."

The Dandy Warhols

The Oregon alt-rockers' name is a play on the name of revered American pop artist Andy Warhol.

The Dandy Warhols - Andy Warhol

Andy Warhol (1928-1987) was an artist and experimental filmmaker and one of the founders of the Pop Art movement.

Melvins are named after a man called Melvin who was frontman Buzz Osborne's supervisor when he worked at a supermarket in Montesano, Washington. The real Melvin was widely disliked by staff and Osborne thought it would be a gloriously ridiculous name for his band.

James Gang are named after the 19th-century gang of American outlaws led by Jesse James. The band's final album 'Jesse Comes Home' references Jesse James and the artwork features a painting of the folk hero riding off into the sunset.

James Gang - Jesse James

The Marshall Tucker Band

The Prodigy have announced a live tour across the UK for November - the Army of the Ants Tour 2023. The 7 date run steps things up a gear and takes Liam H and Maxim back into arena sized venues.

The July 22 tour, which saw them tear up 3 nights at O2 Academy Brixton, was their first without their brother, the iconic Keith Flint. The way Liam H and Maxim incorporated and paid tribute to Keiths everlasting legacy with the live show was truly powerful. It was met with great support and love of their legions of fans across the country.

With a solid spring and summer run of international festival headline dates now underway, the band are looking forward to bringing the fire back to key UK cities once again. Kicking off in Glasgow on November 16th they’ll hit up Manchester, Leeds, Brighton, Cardiff and Birmingham before ending the UK leg at Alexandra Palace in London on Friday November 24th.

The Prodigy will be supported by SOFT PLAY, the British punk duo formerly known as Slaves. After being on hiatus for several years, Laurie Vincent and Isaac Holman have reignited their partnership under a new moniker, and their time on the road with The Prodigy will mark the band's much anticipated return to touring.

Busted’s many successes spread far beyond the singles charts. Three of their four studio albums also peaked at #2, with 4.5 million sales leading to eight Platinum certifications as well as a total of 25 weeks in the Top 10 and two 5x Platinum selling albums. They have won two BRIT Awards – Best Pop Act and Best British Breakthrough – while multiple sold-out arena tours have seen them sell more than 2 million tickets.
