Haha the snow globe one is a pretty cool idea but seems like it would be a logistical nightmare every time you need to take it off. I might actually do New York tourist this year. Thanks for the great ideas :)

What a fun article, Sarah. My favourite is the Snow Globe costume but I am not sure if I would personally dress up in it. I might try it on my niece though.
When looking at these photos, I can't stop laughing. This post is fun. Will look back at this post in February, when Carnaval is coming up in the Netherlands! Then it will definitely be useful. Thanks for sharing!
Although I haven't dressed up in years, I do enjoy looking at photos of everyone's costumes! These are all so great! If I was going to dress up this year I would dress up as the new female Dr. Who. She's a world traveler, wouldn't you say?!?!? :)

I love to dress up in costumes. Naturally, Halloween is also one of my favorite holidays. Whether you are traveling or going to a friend’s costume party, here are some awesome travel themed costumes. These will work any time of year!
I’ve written about costumes for Halloween that travel easily and are still clever and fun . You can use these for Halloween and also a travel themed party. There are even a few that will work for a time travel party. If you’re looking for travel themed Halloween costumes for adults, read on!

Travel Themed Costumes
Whether you want to channel your inner Amelia Earhart or Jerrie Mock , you can choose an old school pilot costume or bring it into modern times. Dress as your favorite aviator, real or fictional.
Flight Attendant
The quintessential costume with a travel theme: flight attendant. While dressing up as a flight attendant might be one of the most common ideas for a travel themed event, it’s still a lot of fun. From extremely stylized to the modern day, there are so many variations. Get a group together and go matching or from different decades!
Where’s Waldo or Where’s Wilma
Waldo (or Wilma, if you prefer) is the world traveler we all want to be: blending in everywhere and not making a scene. Pair the shirt, glasses, and hat with a pair of jeans and you are good to go. If you’re really into it, take the shirt with you around the world and photograph yourself in it. Hilarious!
World Traveller
Who else was absolutely obsessed with “ Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego ?” I know it wasn’t just me, they even made a TV show!
When you dress up in the iconic red trench coat and fedora, everyone knows who you are – and they will ask where in the world you’ve been! The only make up you need is a red lipstick . Not only can you wear the trench and hat again, it’s another costume that could make appearances while you travel!
International Person of Mystery
Be the hilarious Austin Powers’ version or create your own idea! For Austin, grab your favorite blue velvet suit. Use the theme music to inspire people to dance.
Time Traveler Costume Ideas
I particularly love this Time Traveler look!
Time Traveler
It’s as easy as donning your favorite touristy looking gear (in my picture, I’m wearing my bathing suit underneath the beach dress I bought on our most recent vacation, along with a big floppy sun hat. Wear what you’d like and paint the clock on your face. It was much easier to do than I’d expected!
Take it to the next level and make a clock costume. Carry a suitcase around all night.
Doctor Who Costumes
The Doctor from Doctor Who is one of the most recognizable time travelers of all time (see what I did there?) Each doctor has a distinctive costume. The 13th Doctor’s costume from the show, played by Jodie Whitaker, is also available. I’m all for gender bending, so wear your favorite doctor’s costume!
Yes, the TARDIS is a machine. In one episode of Doctor Who, she does become a woman for a short time. TARDIS stands for time and relative dimensions in space and it can travel anywhere in space or time. With such a huge following that spans multiple decades, it isn’t likely going to go out of style anytime soon.
Not into Doctor Who?
Back To The Future Costumes
The second and third most recognizable time travelers are Marty McFly and Doc Brown. Carry around a tiny DeLorean to complete the look. Unless you already have your own real one. That’s cool, too.
Wear this amazing dress and BE the world. Grab matching world map shoes to complete the ensemble.
It’s actually practical and you can wear it regularly. I would! In fact, I’ve been looking for a world map dress to wear out and about.
Space is the ultimate destination and astronauts are the ultimate travelers. Dress up as an homage to the scientists and astronauts who got to the moon in the 1960s. Watch this wonderful documentary about the Last Man on the Moon to get in the spirit of exploration.
Grab this costume and be a Bellhop or Hotel Concierge. It’s really a perfect costume for travelers and maybe even reminds us and others to be appreciative of those in the service and hospitality industries.
Scuba Diver
Whether you are a scuba diver or not, it’s a really fun costume for Halloween or a travel party. Go old school. Add a baby in a carrier as a deep sea creature. Or create your own. Do you want to simplify? Skip the air tank and be a snorkeler!
Annie Walker (from Bridesmaids)
Throw on a black and white blouse, jeans, and sunglasses. Presto! You have an Annie Walker costume from during her hilarious plane meltdown in the movie Bridesmaids. Couples costume idea: one half dresses Annie and the other as flight attendant, Stove. Err, Steve.
Pick a Character from your Favorite Travel movie
Pick a character from an iconic travel movie. Thelma and Louise, Wild, Lost In Translation, and Titanic come to mind. Let your imagination soar!
More Traveling Characters from Movies and Television Shows
Characters from Futurama, Star Trek, Doctor Who, and the main characters from Harry Potter. Marty McFly and Doc Emmett Brown from Back to the Future. Bill & Ted are most excellent time travelers, as well. Several characters from the Terminator franchise also fit nicely into this theme. There’s also the Time Traveler from The Time Machine. Ebenezer Scrooge from A Christmas Carol travels in his dreams. The characters from Lost In Space fit the theme, too. Alice in Wonderland is a fanciful traveler for a travel theme party. Indiana Jones and supporting characters are more fun choices for travel themed costumes!
Monarch Butterfly
This is probably seems like a most unusual addition to a costume list with a travel theme. However, monarch butterflies migrate 2,500 miles per year. Most overwinter in Mexico and then head back up north in the spring. It’s amazing such fragile creatures can travel so incredibly far every 4 generations. This costume pays homage to an amazing creature. Plus, it’s a really cool costume!
Go Forth and Dress Up
Dressing up is always fun and choosing a great, whimsical costume can enhance your party. Do you want the cheesiest, easiest costume of all? It’s the classic Obnoxious Tourist, of course! Make it a costume for two and one half dresses as a landmark. Either way, enjoy Halloween or your travel themed party with a wonderful dress up idea!
What’s your favorite travel themed costume? What was your most creative travel or time travel themed costume idea?
Natalie was an expat living in Queretaro, Mexico for 5 years. She and her family travel as often as possible.

Flight Attendant

Dora the Explorer
Orange shorts , a pink shirt , yellow socks , and your favorite backpack can be used to quickly throw together a Dora the Explorer costume (don’t forget the wig !) Practice saying Dora’s catchphrase, “lo hicimos” in lieu of “trick-or-treat”.

You’ve always been known for having the most creative and fun costume with months of planning behind you, but this time you have found yourself half way around the world in a hostel during Halloween! You can still dress up for cheap and with the clothes you have brought with you; here are some tips to make the best do-it-yourself costumes while on the road.
Accessories
By just adding easy accessories such as a pair of wings, a cape, or drawing on some eyeliner whiskers or mustache; you can achieve the most simple costume change while still wearing the clothes you already brought.
A cat costume is easy: add eyeliner whiskers, wear all black and mimic a kitty nose by putting a little lipstick on the end of yours. Check out the kids section in the local grocery store or supermarket for some cheap and creative accessories.
This costume idea is tried and true but always super easy and fun. If you brought a one-piece bathing suit all you need is some brightly colored tights and some trainers, add some over-the-top scrunchies for your hair and tacky make-up, and you’re set!
Talk to the other girls in your dorm – someone’s bound to have a bright eye shadow color deep in their makeup bag . Pile it on and tune into your inner Cindi Lauper!
If you are planning on wearing less clothing for your costume (more appropriate for warmer climates) body paint is the cheapest and easiest way to transform yourself.
Depending on your skills with a paintbrush, you can either paint your whole body or just your face and arms. Some body paint costume ideas: Avatar character, Smurf, Anime character, Pixilation (paint different colored squares on your face/body to appear as a low-resolution image), and Rainbow.
Check out a local craft shop to see if you can get your hands on a skin-friendly tube of paint. Popular options include tempra, markers, liquid latex, airbrush makeup, PAX makeup and textile acrylics.
This more frightening costume almost falls in the same category of body paint, but requires some clothes you don’t mind ripping up for the sake of the holiday.
Paint your white with dark circles around your eyes, and splash on some red over your face, chest, t-shirt and arms as if you were just finished eating the bloodiest meal ever. Don’t have access to paint or red lipstick? How about some ketchup for blood?
If you have about 50 cents to spend, one of the cheapest and most fun costumes you can make is a mummy. All you need is a friend and a roll of toilet paper and you’re ready to be mummified!
In consideration of post-drinking alcohol filled bladders, don’t use up the toilet paper in your hostel. It’s really cheap to buy your own roll.
Cross-Gender
Especially fun in a busy hostel, cross-dressing costumes always get a good laugh! Add some “facial hair” with a bit of eye liner or mascara and presto, you’re the newest and most eligible bachelor in town!
Swap clothes with your boyfriend or one of your new travel mates for a free and silly costume.
Tourist (because you probably already own everything you need for this one!)
All this costume requires is your most touristy items you have, so break out that horribly tacky screen printed or Hawaiian shirt, a tote-bag on your shoulder, some bermuda or cargo shorts, sunglasses, SLR around your neck, hat of any kind, and with a map in hand be sure to ask everyone for directions!
Also, talk with your fellow travelers to come up with group-themed or partner ideas (superheroes, movie casts, etc). It’s a great way to meet people and socialize in a foreign country!
Please share the love on Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest. Thanks for reading!

Cruise ships, helicopters, sailboats, and ice cream trucks can also be fashioned into travel-themed Halloween costumes for kids .
Plus, those in cold climates can rest easy knowing these costumes can accommodate a jacket (or, if necessary a snowsuit!). Families can also affix travel vehicle costumes to wagons or strollers, making them ideal for long Halloween tours in your neighborhood. Finally, these make fun DIY travel costumes for families !
International Inspiration
Take inspiration from international destinations! You can fashion impressive costumes based on famous monuments around the world. Kids will adore dressing up like the USA’s Statue of Liberty, France’s Eiffel Tower , Italy’s The Leaning Tower of Pisa, or other famous landmarks . Not to mention, your kids are sure to win a Halloween contest with one of these great travel-themed costumes !
Or, you can respectfully select options that honor international figures, stories, or fashions. One travel-inspired costume idea for families came from one of our families in the Families Who Love To Travel group. Recently returned from Japan; one of their children chose to dress up as a Tengu , a legendary creature found in Japanese folk religion. After careful research and selection of the mask in Japan, the family created the rest of the costume together. We love the conversations that costumes like this spark!

Travel + Leisure / Kristin Kempa
You may have a designated travel sweatshirt or a favorite pair of shoes to wear on flights — but what about other essentials, like pants, jackets, T-shirts, dresses, and pajamas? If you prioritize comfort in transit, it’s time to revamp your travel wardrobe to ensure every trip is a cozy one. Lucky for you, we editors at Travel + Leisure rounded up a few of our favorite comfy clothing items we always wear on the road and in the sky.
From impossibly soft lounge sets to what we believe are the world’s comfiest jeans, we've combed our closets for those few items we tend to wear every time we travel. Our list includes favorites from Lululemon, Patagonia, Lilly Pulitzer, and more, so whether you prefer to travel in loose-fitting loungewear or more compressive clothing, you’re sure to find something you love below.
lululemon Define Jacket Luon
We’ve all been on a flight that’s chilly enough for some extra layers but too warm for a heavy coat or sweatshirt. That’s why we always pack this comfy, light jacket in our carry-on. Not only is it incredibly sleek and stylish thanks to its slim fit, but it’s also super soft, stretchy, breathable, and easy to move in. The sleeves even feature thumbholes and “cuffins” (cuffs that can be folded over your hands) for added warmth. Snag the Define Jacket Luon in eight sizes and five shades including espresso and bone.
“This jacket is essentially my plane uniform — I wear it every single time I fly,” editor Sophie Mendel said. “It's comfy but keeps me looking put-together, plus I can wear it with leggings and sneakers for a super functional, comfortable, and cute transit 'fit. It also has two zippered pockets which are extra-convenient during travel.”
Calia Women's Inspire High Rise 7/8 Legging
Dick's Sporting Goods
Flying in compression leggings is wise, especially for long-haul flights, but some compression leggings tend to squeeze you uncomfortably. That’s never a problem with Calia’s Inspire High Rise 7/8 leggings, though. Boasting subtle compression that molds to your body, the leggings are sure to remain comfy and breathable without sliding down or sagging. They even have unique seam lines that strategically accentuate your curves — though, admittedly, this is more noticeable in some colors than others. To top it off, we love the way they feel to the touch.
“These Calia leggings are without a doubt the softest pair I own,” associate editor Hillary Maglin said. “I've worn them for everything from yoga classes to grocery runs to a recent 12-hour travel day, and I've remained comfy through it all. The leggings are thick without hindering mobility, and they're compressive without digging into my stomach (something I can't stand). It also doesn't hurt that they have subtle side pockets large enough for my phone. Though I have plenty of black leggings in my wardrobe, I find myself reaching for these ones again and again.”
Commes Des Garçons Play x Converse Chuck Taylor Hidden Heart Low Top Sneakers
It's true: Converse never goes out of style. Conveniently, the sleek sneakers tend to last forever, too, so consider copping a pair of the Converse x Comme des Garçons Play Chuck 70s. They feature the typical silhouette of the brand’s low tops, plus they come in white or black. No matter which color you choose, this particular style also boasts the Comme des Garçons red heart and eyes logo on the side. You can snag these in women’s sizes 5 to 15 and men’s sizes 3 to 13.
“This is my go-to travel shoe because it's comfortable but also dressy enough that I can wear it throughout my trip when I want an elevated sneaker look,” travel editor Susmita Baral said.
Paka Men's Apu Lightweight Puffer
One of our most important tips for traveling in comfort? Dress to avoid freezing or overheating. With this lightweight men’s puffer from Paka, regulating your body temperature is easy. It’s so slim that it looks more like a hoodie than a puffer, but its hidden layers and insulation efficiently lock in warmth. Even if you choose not to wear it in transit, you can effortlessly pack it down into a bag or suitcase.
“This puffer jacket has the warmth of a parka but not the bulkiness, which makes it the perfect outerwear to bring while traveling,” writer Anna Popp said. “It can fit in a suitcase easily and it's also perfectly cozy and warm to wear on an airplane if you need to save extra space. I love that it looks nice while going out in the city on a snowy day, but that it’s also designed to be worn for sportier occasions like skiing, hiking, climbing, or running.”
J.McLaughlin Lowden Jeans
J.McLaughlin
We know, we know — traveling in jeans might as well be a crime. We thought so, too, until we got our hands on J.McLaughlin’s Lowden jeans. The stretchy cotton denim feels more like a soft pair of leggings, and even after long-haul flights, we never felt restricted or uncomfortable in them. The jeans feature a wide-leg slim fit for added mobility and a high waist for comfort and confidence on and off the plane.
“I never thought I would be a jeans person for airplanes but after wearing these on a cross-country flight, I'm a big fan now,” said Popp. “These jeans are super stretchy and roomy, so if (and when) I get bloated while traveling, the high-waist fabric doesn't dig into my stomach or cause me any discomfort. They also look super cute and stylish and can be styled with many different outfits, so I’ve officially added these jeans to my travel wardrobe for every trip.”
Patagonia Women's Nano Puff Jacket
We’re adamant that Patagonia’s Nano Puff is the jacket every traveling woman needs in her wardrobe. It’s lightweight, packable, durable, stylish, warm, windproof, water-resistant — need we go on? Some of our favorite extras are a drawstring hemline to seal in heat and hidden internal pockets. On top of all its functional features, it also comes in sizes ranging from XXS to XXL and 11 colors including buckhorn green, chilled blue, and sandy melon.
“When it comes to packable jackets for women, this one from Patagonia is the best option for virtually any trip,” Popp said. “The design is simple but very functional, and I love being able to wear it for any season. In the winter, it's thin enough to layer for more warmth, but I can wear it as-is during summer camping trips. My outdoor-adventuring family all own Nano puff jackets and they still look as good as new, so I love that they’re built to last – possibly forever – in my opinion.”

Rag & Bone Miramar Jogger
Rag & Bone
These joggers are so stylish, you’d never guess they’re also comfy as can be. Don’t let their denim appearance fool you — they’re actually made of soft cotton terry that provides stellar mobility and comfort. Over the legging look for travel? Throw these on instead, and pair them with a pair of boots or walking shoes and moto jacket for an effortlessly cool look you don’t even have to change out of once you reach your destination.
“These Rag & Bone joggers are simply the best for travel,” editor-in-chief Jacqui Gifford said. “I call them ‘faux’ jeans; the fabric looks like it’s a regular old pair of denim, but surprise — they have the softness and ease of a pair of sweats. Ideal for a plane ride or even a long day out on a tour, these are the ultimate pants that blend function, form, and style.”
Forme Power Bra
In need of a comfy new sports bra to keep everything in place on your next journey? Our editors (and a certain blonde popstar) are all about the Forme Power Bra. It’s comfy, cute, compressive, and most impressively, designed to zap bad posture. The wide straps take pressure off your shoulders and back, while the comfortable fit promotes proper body alignment, quick recovery, and overall health. We even love all seven colors it comes in — especially rosé and ecru.
"As a bra-needer and someone who really shouldn't be traveling without one, I absolutely hate wearing something bulky while I fly,” associate photo editor Alessandra Amodio said. “My go-to is the Forme Power Bra. Not only is it incredibly comfortable and made of high-quality material, but it’s actually FDA-registered to correct posture and improve your body alignment. Now I fly comfortably and my neck, shoulders and back feel so much better. I just throw on a cute open button down, pair it with the Ergo Shorts or Sculpt+ Leggings , and look chic and put-together while traveling. (This is also what Taylor Swift wore in her Eras Tour rehearsals according to a photo from her Time Person of the Year profile — if it's good enough for Taylor, it's good enough for me.)”
Circus by Sam Edelman Zuri Strap Ballet Flat
Circus by Sam Edelman
We love that ballet flats are back — and this strappy style demands to be worn. The low heel and soft interior make them a great, pain-free option for travel while cross straps, buckles, and tiny beaded bows keep things stylish. They come in 11 sizes including half sizes, and 15 unique colors and prints. We recommend the shades dark French macaroon, light wash, and the leopard-printed beige brown.
“Even though you’d think flats would always be a comfortable shoe option, it’s actually surprisingly difficult to find flats that don’t dig into your feet or make your toes all sweaty,” testing editor Jackie Cucco said. “I’ve tried so many pairs that seem comfortable at first, but end up being too rigid and irritating by the end of the day. This is the first pair I’ve found that is soft enough to wear all day long, either with or without socks or tights. They feel like slippers, and they come in more than a dozen colors to match any vibe.”
Black Diamond Notion Pants
Black Diamond
Whether you’re headed to the airport, the trails, or even the gym, the Black Diamond men’s Notion Pants are your best bet for comfort and mobility. Designed with an elastic waist, a drawstring cord, and a loose fit, these pants feel almost like wearing your favorite pair of sweatpants. However, their slim appearance complete with two hand pockets and two rear pockets make them dapper enough to wear to dinner, a show, or even the office. Grab them in a neutral hue like ash or tundra, or opt for a more eye-catching shade like raging sea or burnt Sienna.
“You don't have to be an Alex Honnold–level rock climber to love these super-soft pants,” news director Paul Brady said. “They're comfortable enough for long-haul flights, even in coach, but they've still got a crisp silhouette to keep you looking put-together.”
Lilly Pulitzer Seaview Top & Deri Palazzo Pant Linen Set
Lilly Pulitzer
You can’t go wrong with Lilly Pulitzer, especially when it comes to jetsetting. This breathable, lightweight linen set from the brand is just as soft and cozy as it is cute, so we recommend adding it to your travel wardrobe immediately. The classic, collared button-down is super versatile thanks to cuffable sleeves and a tieable bottom — plus you can turn it into a jacket or cover-up by layering it unbuttoned over literally any other outfit. Snag the ultra-flattering matching pants to complete the look.
“I think the most versatile item to pack on a warm-weather vacay is a white linen button down, and this roomy one from Lilly Pulitzer is good enough to also grab in other colors like spearmint and mulberry,” associate editorial director Morgan Ashley Parker said. “I’ve worn it unbuttoned over a swimsuit and then slipped on matching palazzo pants — with an irresistible elasticized waist — for dinner alfresco. I personally love the all-white combo for warmer climates but the New Yorker in me would also recommend grabbing the coordinating onyx x onyx set if you can catch it in stock.”
Spanx AirEssentials Wide Leg Pant
There are few things softer than Spanx Air Essentials’ Wide Leg Pants. They feel similar to the brand's sleek and smoothing leggings and shapewear, but they have a relaxed fit rather than a super compressive one. While the pants could certainly be worn as loungewear, they’re also fashionable enough to wear to the airport, a coffee shop, or on an errand run. Though they fit and even look a bit like sweatpants, figure-enhancing contouring on the rear differentiates them from your typical comfy clothing.
“It’s impossible to find a better material than Spanx AirEssentials ,” Parker said. “All pieces feel silky to the touch, hefty enough for a chilly plane cabin, and pretty much impossible to wrinkle. I’m super into wide-leg styles — and need this exact petite option for my 5' 3" frame — and these pants are pretty much a given on my long flights nowadays. Personally, I love the olive-y palm color as an alternative to black or navy, so my only real choice is whether to match them with a crew neck or a sleek half zip instead.”
Pitusa Pima Abaya
If your ideal wardrobe staple is a do-it-all piece, look no further than Pitusa’s Pima Abaya. The cozy caftan is perfect for everything from international flights to pool days to bedtime. That’s thanks to impossibly soft cotton construction, oversized sleeves, and an airy, relaxed fit. There are no buttons, snaps, or drawstrings on this piece, so you’ll never have to worry about uncomfortable digging or fussing with it in order for it to fit right. You can customize your fit upon buying, though, and you can even choose from 15 colors.
“I joke about my ideal wardrobe consisting of a caftan in every color and this floor-length maxi fits perfectly into that vibe,” Parker said. “It can serve as a dress, cover-up, nightgown — pretty much anything, all day, every day in a tropical climate. The lightweight pima cotton is incredibly soft, too, and it comes in petite, standard, and tall options to reduce tailoring needs. I like this exact one because it’s not so sheer that I wouldn’t wear it out to dinner or on the plane but if you’re looking for more of a peekaboo style, you can get the same cut in a burnout fabric instead.”
Mar Soreli Ginger Mary Jane
Mar Soreli
Looking to travel in comfort without sacrificing style? Check out the Ginger Mary Janes by Mar Soreli. Everything from the insole to the strap is ultra-soft and cushioned, plus the buckle and strap are easy to tighten and loosen for a custom fit — or for quickly taking on and off at TSA. They’re even soft to the touch thanks to velvet uppers, and they’re versatile enough to wear with leggings, skirts, dresses, and jeans.
“If you’re someone who wishes slippers were appropriate outdoor shoes, these ballet flats are the next best thing,” Parker said. “The velvet is so cozy but still looks great with anything from plane leggings to a nicer skirt on a night out, with or without socks or tights. And, if you do want to wear them through security (and don’t have TSA PreCheck®), each strap actually has a snap in addition to the buckle adjustment so they’re incredibly quick to slip on and off as needed.”
Allbirds Wool Runners
Allbirds shoes were basically made for travel, and the Men’s Wool Runners are some of our absolute favorites. The inside is actually lined with fine merino wool, making for soft and warm-yet-breathable wear no matter the time of the year. On top of that, the sneakers are equipped with reliable arch support and machine washable fabric. While we wouldn’t recommend them for running, they’re the perfect comfy shoes for pretty much everything else, including walking, hiking, and navigating the airport.
“My husband swears by these comfortable men's walking shoes so much that I ordered a pair of the women's version for myself,” senior editor Kayla Becker said. “And they really deliver. We both love the thick, foamy cushion that keeps our feet supported on long travel days, and they've stood up to everything from 20,000-step jaunts in Iceland to hiking Diamond Head in Hawaii.”
Aday Turn It Up Pants
Tapered trousers are office staples — so if you’re traveling for business, we suggest adding a pair or two of the Aday Turn It Up Pants to your wardrobe. They’re the goes-with-everything piece you’ve been looking for, and their soft, tailored stretch paired with an elastic waistband makes them comfy enough to catch a flight in. The ankle-length pants have a pocket at each hip and are available in a dozen colors.
“As soon as I found these sleek, wrinkle-free travel pants, they became a permanent part of my travel uniform (and I've even written about how all the travel editors I know have them ),” Becker said. “They're not only super comfortable for long-haul flights (I just flew 14 hours in them and felt like I was wearing pajamas), but they also look put-together right off the plane, whether I'm headed to the office or a walking tour. I'd wear them literally anywhere.”
Saucony Endorphin Speed 4
If you’re the type of traveler that likes to workout on the road, Saucony’s Endorphin Speed 4 is the versatile sneaker for you. Not only is it an ideal comfy running shoe, but it’s also lightweight and sleek enough to wear for every other part of your journey, too. Whether you wear it on the plane or to sightsee once you arrive at your destination, you’ll always feel supported in the Speed 4. Choose from five eye-catching colorways and 15 sizes including half-sizes.
“I've been training for the London Marathon, and since I started wearing these sneakers, I haven't had a single ounce of pain in my feet, even on long runs,” senior editorial director Nina Ruggiero said. “They are extremely cushioned yet so lightweight. Even after the race is done, I imagine I might be wearing them on the long flight home to LA.”
Fundamental Coast Shorebreak Hoodie
Fundamental Coast
To make the most of the space in your suitcase, you’ll want to prioritize versatile pieces that can do it all. That’s why we love the Fundamental Coast Shorebreak Hoodie so much. It’s perfect for travel days and morning walks near your hotel, but it’s also elevated enough to wear to a cafe, museum, or shops around town. The pullover hoodie has a front pocket, drawstring hood, and slim fit for a more put-together appearance. Grab it in phantom black or storm, which both have a beachy, heathered texture.
“Fundamental Coast has perfected Southern California athleisure, especially for men, and my fiancé lives in the brand's hoodies, shorts, vests, and polos,” Ruggiero said. “The Shorebreak hoodie is especially soft and sleek and works well whether we're out doing something active or going to brunch at a new spot in our beachy LA neighborhood.”
Vuori Cove Funnel Neck Tank
Vuori
This high-necked tank top is so stylish, you’d never guess it’s also comfy enough for exercise, stretching out on a plane, or even napping. Crafted with a soft and stretchy rayon-elastane fabric blend, this top never digs into the skin or feels uncomfortably tight around the neck. While it’s not quite cropped, it’s not too long, either, so it’s likely to complement a variety of bodies and ensembles.
“This super-soft rib knit tank is my go-to running top, but the high neck also gives it some style (in addition to protecting my most sensitive areas from the sun),” Ruggiero said. “I have it in multiple colors, and I've definitely worn the black and tan ones out with friends at night, too.”
Vuori Echo Insulated Vest
Vuori
A reliable vest is essential for travelers — it locks in warmth without causing you to overheat, and it couldn’t be easier to zip on and off. We’re big fans of this one from Vuori for its insulation, water resistance, and easy cleaning. It has zip pockets for your hands or small items, and a subtle collar keeps heat from escaping while allowing your neck total range of motion, irritation-free. To top it off, the vest comes in two stylish shades.
“This lightweight but warm insulated vest has quickly become one of my fiancé's favorite items of clothing,” Ruggiero said. “He wears it on dog walks, weekends, and travel days — it even has pockets.”
Reef Men's Swellsole Cutback Sneaker
It’s no secret that Reef is one of the most trusted rugged shoe brands around, so when it released boat shoes, we were intrigued. It turns out Reef’s boat shoes are just as comfy and long-lasting as the sandals we know and love. The men’s Swellsole Cutback Sneakers are the perfect fusion of classic boat shoes and cushioned sneakers, and they’re perfect for beachy vacations. Wear them from the dock straight to dinner — then keep them on for a busy night of exploring the boardwalk.
“I always thought of Reef for flip-flops, but since my fiancé found their hybrid boat shoes/sneakers, he's bought them in at least three colors,” Ruggiero said. “They're supportive thanks to memory foam, and can be dressed up or down.”
Public Rec All Day Pants
Odds are, you’ve seen these popular pants everywhere from the office to the coffee shop to the airport. That’s because their straight-leg fit and stretchy nylon-spandex fabric move with you rather than tightly confining your waist and legs like other styles. But don’t let their uber-soft texture fool you — these pants are still equipped with two front pockets, two faux back pockets, belt loops, and a zipper fly, so you’ll look and feel just as sophisticated as you are comfortable when you wear these.
“The slacks feel almost like loungewear thanks to their soft nylon-spandex blend,” editor Taylor Fox said. “They're the perfect balance of comfort and style for long flights where you don't want to feel cramped into tight pants, but want to still look put-together when you land. They can also be dressed up or dressed down for added versatility no matter what you have on the agenda.”
ManMade Boxers and T-shirt Bundle
ManMade Brand
One can never have too many basics, and we love this three-piece pack from ManMade. Each set comes with two pairs of black boxer briefs and one white T-shirt. Made of high-quality modal, spandex, and Pima cotton, the briefs and tee are guaranteed to remain soft, breathable, moisture-wicking, and anti-chafing through everything — even long-haul flights and airport sprints. To ensure your comfort, the bundle comes in six sizes ranging from small to 3XL.
“My husband packs about a dozen pairs of boxers and undershirts for a weeklong trip and his absolute favorites come from ManMade,” Fox said. “They're lightweight and breathable with a buttery soft material that doesn't add a bulky layer under clothing. All of their items contain the perfect amount of stretch as well without allowing the clothing to ride up or bunch in uncomfortable places whether he's hiking, riding his bike, or preparing for a long flight.”
The Mate Organic Waffle Knit Joggers
There’s something so luxurious about a good waffle weave. Designed with a relaxed fit and buttery soft texture, these Organic Waffle Knit Joggers by Mate are no exception. They’re made of 100 percent organic cotton, crafted with elastic at the waist and ankles, and equipped with one pocket on the back right side. The cozy joggers come in four neutral colors (jet black, bone, lilac, and bark) and five sizes. You can also drop the matching Organic Waffle Long Sleeve Shirt in your cart to complete the look.
“If I could replace all of my joggers with these comfortable, waffle-knit pants I would,” writer Ali Domrongchai said. “They have the perfect amount of stretch that lends itself well to long travel days, and thanks to its textured design, they not only feel good, but look good, too. In fact, since I've been wearing these cozy knit joggers, a few of my friends have snagged a pair as well because of how much I rave about them.”
Tips for Buying Comfortable Travel Clothes
Consider the material.
When traveling, it’s important to choose clothing that’s as comfortable and low-maintenance as possible. That said, we recommend clothes made of soft, sweat-wicking, and breathable fabrics such as cotton, polyester, linen, or wool. It’s also wise to opt for wrinkle-resistant materials like nylon and spandex to keep you looking fresh and put-together.
Look for travel features
Though it may feel unnecessary, we guarantee you’ll end up thanking yourself for buying pants, dresses, and bags with lots of extra pockets. Additionally, temperature-regulating clothes can come in pretty handy when you’re on the road — so consider adding clothing with cooling capabilities (or just clothes made of linen, nylon, or polyester) to your travel wardrobe.
The most breathable clothing is made of materials like cotton, linen, nylon, polyester, merino wool, and silk. Though fabrics like spandex, fleece, and denim have plenty of benefits, they’re not quite as breathable.
Generally soft, stretchy, and loose-fitting clothing is best for travel, as it’ll keep you comfy and won’t feel restrictive on long flights or drives. Some people may also opt for compressive clothing, like leggings or compression socks, which helps promote circulation on long travel days. You may also want to choose clothing you know to be breathable so you don’t overheat.

The Best Travel Outfits for Plane Rides, Road Trips, and More
Dress for the journey as much as the destination.
In This Article
Some of us may be quite rusty when it comes to savvy travel planning. Before we all spent an extended stretch stuck at home, many of us were able to skillfully pack a tote for a weekend getaway in eight minutes flat, remembering every essential without overstuffing. But this year, the task may feel a bit more foreign as we head into the summer with (hopefully) a few more plans to get out of town than we've had in a while. There’s also the matter of the travel outfit, a look that shouldn’t merely be an afterthought compared to everything else you're bringing on vacation—after all, you'll be wearing it for a long stretch of time and may even want something you can wear for your first activities the moment you arrive.
Whether you’re leaving for a two-hour flight or a 20-hour road trip, travel outfits should tick all the boxes: they’re comfortable, practical, and complement the rest of what you’re bringing for your final destination. This means matching sets you can break up and style into separate outfits later, light layers that work for air-conditioned train compartments and post-sunset beach strolls alike, and even swimsuits that can double as bodysuits.
Read on to find the 15 best travel outfit ideas as you plan your next departure.
The Jumpsuit
Design by Tiana Crispino
Keep travel simple with one of Alex Mill’s jumpsuits—this terry style feels especially summer-ready—and a cozy pair of socks. These Comrad ones are compression socks, ideal for extra-long flights.
Shop The Look
The button-front dress.
To build the perfect travel outfit, choose versatile pieces. This button-front dress can serve as a comfortable en-route look, a beach cover-up, a long, layered top over denim, and more.
The Jeans and Tee
For a not-so-standard jeans-and-tee ensemble, opt for wide-leg denim and a fun, functional pair of sandals that you can keep wearing once you reach any beach destination.
The Standard Stitch
LoveShackFancy x Manebi
The Cardigan
Get vacation started early by wearing your favorite summer dress for the journey. Layer on a sweater for any blasting AC you might encounter while en route.
Matteau + Net Sustain
The Polished Athleisure
Keep things sporty and sleek with a travel outfit combination of bike shorts, sneakers, and a tailored blazer . These are three versatile items you can always restyle over the course of your vacation.
Frankie Shop
The Coordinating Sweats
When it comes to travel outfits, you can't get comfier than sweats, and a coordinating set allows you to look stylish with no fuss whatsoever, even if you take a mid-journey nap.
The Swimsuit-As-Bodysuit
A trick to piecing together a great travel look is to use items you were going to pack for vacation anyway, such as a swimsuit . Style this one-piece as if it were a bodysuit and use a colorful oversized tote as your carry-on.
The Travel Wrap
We swear by a cashmere travel wrap in any season, as it can double as a blanket, scarf, sweater, or whatever you need it for. Style this one with a graphic tee and jeans for your next plane ride.
White + Warren
The Classic Button-Down
We always travel with a classic, button-down shirt that can be worn as is, tied up with a skirt, or draped over a swimsuit as a cover-up. Make even more use of the versatile piece by wearing it with shorts and a bucket hat as you head to your getaway.
Frank & Eileen
The Loose-Fit Dress
A printed dress that barely touches your body is a summertime essential, and that’s especially true for any long days of travel. Just add sneakers and a statement mask.
The Maxi Dress
Pair a maxi dress with a timeless denim jacket. This creates an effortlessly put-together look, even if you only have 30 seconds to toss it on before running to catch an early morning flight.
Zelie for She
Violeta by Mango
Arlo Skye x Dusen Dusen
The Light Layers
Pack with light layers in mind, such as with this "shacket" ensemble. This will come in handy when the summer temperature drops after sunset.
Avec Les Filles
Ganni x Levi's
Girlfriend Collective
The Beach-Ready Look
A quick jaunt to a nearby coastal town calls for a travel outfit that can go directly from the car to your beach towel. Accomplish this by throwing some summery trousers over your swimsuit , then complete the look with a basket bag.
Dodo Bar Or
The Knit Set
Another stylish option when you'd prefer sophisticated loungewear is a knit set. Once you reach your vacation spot, the pieces can separately be styled into tons of other ensembles, as well.
Selva Negra
Dear Frances
The Trench Coat
If you’re drawn to truly classic pieces, the trench coat is a perfect layer for the road. Dress it down with cozy leggings and an oversize tote.

The 10 best places you can buy Halloween costumes online
— Recommendations are independently chosen by Reviewed’s editors. Purchases you make through our links may earn us a commission.
Halloween is going to look a little different this year. We won't—or at least shouldn't—be crowding around at costume parties or going door to door asking strangers and neighbors for candy. But it doesn't mean you can't dress up to celebrate social distance-style. No matter what your plans are this Hallow's Eve, it's absolutely worth it to invest in a festive costume that's bound to raise your (haunted) spirits. We've rounded up the best places to shop for costumes online that'll fit every budget and niche taste in historical references and pop culture.
Sizes: S to X
Return/exchange policy: 90 days
Walmart makes it as easy to shop for your Halloween costumes as they do household items. All costume styles are broken down into 25 categories on the left-side navigation bar, like Harry Potter, zombie or pirate costumes. The top gallery features additional sections like adult, group and even dog costumes.
- Shop kids' costumes at Walmart
- Shop women's costumes at Walmart
- Shop men's costumes at Walmart
Sizes: XS to 2X
It’s almost as if the Target website should pivot to selling strictly Halloween costumes—that’s how comprehensive their selection and navigational tools are. First select from a panel of categories like couples, men’s, or women’s costumes, and then choose from more narrower selections like scary, funny, or princess storybook costumes. Narrow down even further by choosing between, say, insect animal and team mascot in the women’s jumpsuit costume section, for example.
- Shop kids' costumes at Target
- Shop women's costumes at Target
- Shop men's costumes at Target
Sizes: Varies by brand
Return/exchange policy: 30 days
Shopping for Halloween costumes on Amazon can be a little overwhelming given that there are over 100,000 search results for Halloween costumes. But not to worry! To narrow down your search, select from men’s, women’s, and kid’s costumes (and more) on the left-hand side. Then browse as you normally would on Amazon, searching by star rating, price range, brand, and popularity.
- Shop kids' costumes at Amazon
- Shop women's costumes at Amazon
- Shop men's costumes at Amazon
Prices: $$$
Sizes: XXS to 5X
Return/exchange policy: Varies by brand
Etsy is your destination for all things a little artsy and off-the-beaten-path. The same rings true for their Halloween costume selection, which is both accessible (if you’re looking for a traditional outfit) and niche (if you’re looking to inspire people to think about what exactly you’re dressed up as). When you search for Halloween costumes, narrow it down via women, men, baby, toddler, pet costumes, and more. Then search by price, size, color and theme.
- Shop kids' costumes at Etsy
- Shop women's costumes at Etsy
- Shop men's costumes at Etsy
Disney fans rejoice—you can dress up as all your favorite characters thanks to the wide range of customers available at Disney's online store. Not only can you filter your options by size or price but you can also browse by movie or franchise (like Marvel or Pixar). There are costumes for kids, adults, pets, and even the whole family or a group of friends.
- Shop kids' costumes at Disney
- Shop adult costumes at Disney
6. Party City
Sizes: XS to 3X
For a comprehensive selection of costumers, look no further than Party City. Under Halloween costumes, you’ll see narrower categories like plus-size, adult, kids and more. Below, you can shop by theme and top-rated options. The retailer really hones in on their pop culture offerings, and as such, you can search by character, like Captain America or Peter Pan.
- Shop kids' costumes at Party City

- Shop men's costumes at Party City
7. HalloweenCostumes.com
Sizes: XS to XL, XS to 6X
Like its name suggests, you’re—surprise, surprise—getting a really varied selection of Halloween costumes here. Right from the top, they offer a choice of adult, kids, group costumes and more. Scroll down, and you’ll see even narrower categories with bright and beautiful images that give you a sense of their aesthetic right away. Pick your category, and you can then choose from their dozens of themes, like celebrity or sports costumes.

8. Spirit Halloween
Return/exchange policy: 14 days
Easy to navigate and even easier to find what you’re looking for, Spirit Halloween is a prime destination for all your spooky party needs. In their costume section, you have the option of selecting from standard categories on the left-hand navigation bar like women’s and plus size costumes, and if you’re more of a visual creature, select from their collage of the same. You’ll then be greeted with even more categories to choose from like occupations and animals. Don’t be sticker spooked if you find their costumes to sell for well over $100—sort by price and you’ll find a great festive option for $50 or less.
- Shop kids' costumes at Spirit Halloween
- Shop women's costumes at Spirit Halloween
- Shop men's costumes at Spirit Halloween
9. Overstock
Overstock doesn’t have a ton of categories to choose from, and that’s what makes it a pleasant experience to shop for Halloween costumes there. They still have a vast enough selection to allow you to browse via category on the left-hand side (to the tune of 17 pages’ worth of costumes), like Marvel, Star Wars and Walking Dead. What’s interesting is that you can shop by care instructions. If dry cleaning is out of your budget, for example, you know to opt for something that can be machine or hand washed.
- Shop kids' costumes at Overstock
- Shop women's costumes at Overstock
- Shop men's costumes at Overstock
10. Wholesale Halloween Costumes
As the most budget-friendly option of the bunch, you won’t have to sacrifice a great time with Wholesale Halloween Costumes’ selection. The front page lets you navigate via age group, brand (think Disney and Star Wars), major categories like animals, and new releases. If you search by age group, they’ll give you the option to dive into their most popular categories, as well as entire costumes under $20.
- Shop kids' costumes at Wholesale Halloween Costumes
- Shop women's costumes at Wholesale Halloween Costumes

We’ve only known Heather Gay for only a few seasons of “The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City” but already she’s become a Bravo all star. And while there are several “versions” of Heather you could dress as from seasons past (the eyepatch is a particular gem) we’re quite taken by the “Cat Mom” version, in which Gay drank one too many espresso martinis in Palm Springs. All you really need is the hat, a martini glass and maybe a plastic bag (just in case). Pair it with a leather jacket (the more ridiculous the better) and you’re good to go.

She’s beauty and she’s grace, she’s M3GYN. The killer robot hell-bent on keeping your kids safe (and literally no one else) will most likely be the second most popular doll at the spooky celebrations this year, thanks to Barbie, but she is still a legend in her own right. 54 Unique Costume Ideas for Halloween 2023
By Marilyn La Jeunesse and Tori Crowther
Halloween is still weeks away (not that we’re counting the days or anything), but we already know we're going all out for 2023. That means planning and sifting through costume ideas early. With inspiration from some of our favorite characters and some of the best moments of this past year and beyond, this list is sure to include the perfect get-up for you.
Whether you’re celebrating the spookiest day of the year with a makeup-centric costume , themed Halloween nail art , or wearing a wig to transform into your favorite pop culture icon, there’s no shortage of options out there. While there’s absolutely nothing wrong with dressing like a black cat or wearing a tiara and calling yourself a princess, sometimes you just want to wear something no one else at your Halloween party will have on. There’s still time for you to craft a clever, unique costume that will stand out in the crowd — and maybe even win you a few awards.
Whether you want to dress up in your most sparkly jumpsuit inspired by Harry Styles at the Grammys or channel your inner Wes Anderson with all the pastel makeup money can buy, let this list of 54 Instagram-worthy and award-winning costumes inform your upcoming Halloween look.
It’s set to be the most popular Halloween costume of 2023, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t wear it. After all, there are so many iconic Barbie outfits to choose from, whether it's a classic look worn by a doll you had as a kid, an ensemble taken from the movie, or Margot Robbie’s seemingly endless stream of outfits for press events.
One of the most striking options from the movie is this neon Lycra skating set, which will be even more fun if you can rope in your other half or a friend to play dress up with you. You’ll need a platinum blond wig (styled in a half-up hairstyle for Barbie), a neon pink leotard with shorts , and cotton candy-colored lipstick .
Oh, and don’t forget to add a faux glow using Isle of Paradise , which is what Kimberley Nkosi , the film's tanning artist, used to give Robbie and all the Kens their beach-bronzed looks.
Beyoncé Renaissance World Tour
Obviously, you don’t need Halloween to take inspiration from Beyonce’s Renaissance World Tour, but it is the ideal time to gather your best bright pink (or all-silver) ensemble. We’re still recovering from the star's glitter-embellished leotard and matching thigh boots, worn in July. But no matter which look you choose to emulate — any of her many catsuits or flowing gowns will also do just fine — you’ll have as much fun sourcing these pieces as you will wearing them to your costume party.
To re-create this ensemble, though, you’ll need a hot pink leotard and the loudest, most joyful boots you can find. You could even try glitter-coating them yourself at home. And don’t forget the feathered glasses .
The Little Mermaid
Halle Bailey gave us inspiration to last a lifetime with her role in 2023’s The Little Mermaid . And the aesthetic is ideal for last-minute and plan-every-detail Halloween-goers.
Create your own glistening dress using iridescent, flowing fabrics or choose from plenty of pre-made costumes, like this mermaid-tail skirt , available online if you’re short on time. All that’s left to do is style your hair — locs or a copper color to replicate the character's — and experiment with the best metallic eye shadow you have.
If you really want to get into character, slather yourself in shimmering body oil.
Harry Styles at the 2023 Grammys
We reckon budding fashion designers could knock a re-creation of Harry Styles’s custom Grammy Awards look out of the park. For this epic ensemble, you’ll need a jumpsuit with a plunging neckline, hundreds — literally — of colored crystals, and the patience of a saint.
Styles’s jumpsuit actually featured a whopping 250,000 Swarovski crystals, so you’ll probably want to make some adaptations if trying this one at home. For example, try using larger crystals, and consider covering just a portion of the suit to reduce sticking time. (Think of this as your latest therapeutic art project to work on while watching your favorite show.)
If you don’t want to spend hours making your costume, there are plenty of easy-to-find items online that you can pull together, including this multicolored jumpsuit and purple starry night piece , instead. And if you really want to go all out, finish off your Styles-inspired costume with pastel blue nail polish and maybe even temporary tattoos .

Jenna Ortega channeling Wednesday Addams
There’s no better time to bewitch everyone with your best Wednesday Addams gothic glam than the spooky season — and Jenna Ortega is still serving the best inspiration. We love Ortega’s take on the character off-screen too. So grab your best black lacy dress , veil, and eye shadows (the messier your application, the better). This costume is also the perfect excuse to try out eerie (but excellent) Halloween nail art ideas .
Taylor Swift Friendship Bracelet
Yes, a Taylor Swift friendship bracelet is the actual costume. For this one, call on your Swifties and get creative with cardboard boxes to form each lettered bead. Use suspender straps to hold up the box around your torso, then decide what you want your group bracelet to spell. Task everyone with decorating a different letter on each cardboard costume, using glitter, sequins, and colored pens.
Then, to really lean in to the bracelet theme, gather your best bracelets (whether you managed to get tour tickets or not) or make a bunch of the occasion. With this costume, more is more, so stack them on both arms — and prepare to give some away to friends who’ll no doubt beg you for one (or 12).
Just think of the cool group photos you’ll get in this get-up….
Doja Cat as Choupette
If you fancy taking on some impressive SFX work this spooky season, use Doja Cat at the 2023 Met Gala as inspiration and turn yourself into the late Karl Lagerfeld’s famous cat, Choupette. This hyperreal look features a sculpted cat nose, a dramatic feline flick, and a dazzling headpiece with ears. Oh, and don't forget the stiletto nails to replicate kitty claws.
If you manage to pull off a look that's a fraction as good as this, you’ve won Halloween.
Pedro Pascal
Are you a bit of a lazy costume-party person but still want something slightly more original than the classic witch or black cat? We offer you Pedro Pascal. Yep, “the internet’s daddy” is definitely costume-worthy inspo this Halloween. Strong red pants are key, paired with a light blue tank. But the real star of the show is the chocolate-colored crocheted cardigan. Make your own if you’re a crocheting whiz, or shop one, like this Abercrombie knit or cropped number.
Queen Charlotte
Our love of Bridgerton continued this year with the release of Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story and India Amarteifio’s memorable Georgian-era inspiration. You’ll have to look beyond the racks of a regular store to find a ball gown fit for a queen, so head to a costume shop or a kitschy thrift store to live out your regal fantasies. Finish the look with a royal bun (the bigger and more embellished, the better), a glitzy tiara , and barely there makeup.
Asteroid City Aesthetic
Get on your Wes Anderson aesthetic and channel all the whimsical delights '50s fashion has to offer. For this look, you’ll need your favorite pastel pantsuit or dress, paired with pin curls, a cool blue eye shadow , and the best red lipstick you own. For a more subtle nod to the buzz surrounding the film, you can channel Maya Hawke’s off-screen outfits, like this sparkling black gown and matching swimming cap.
Cruella de Vil
For true beauty enthusiasts who want to put their own spin on a character's memorable aesthetic, Cruella de Vil is where it’s at for Halloween. Take inspiration from Emma Stone’s many looks as the embodiment of the character and you can become the villain you’ve always wanted to be. But remember, no Cruella look is complete without her signature black-and-white hair, so getting the right wig is your first step. Next, pick out a classic red lipstick; hair and makeup designer Nadia Stacey chose MAC Ruby Woo for Stone’s character. Finally, throw on a faux-fur coat.
Kate Sharma in Bridgerton
Live your wildest Bridgerton fantasy this Halloween by channeling Kate Sharma. Choose from an array of cerulean, periwinkle, and peach gowns. Then, rope in a friend (you know, the one who is ridiculously good at doing hair) to give you a royal-approved updo.
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo
If the aim of your Halloween costume this year is glamour, look to The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo book cover (an adaptation is coming to Netflix). Shop a slinky emerald gown, a pearl necklace, and a bold red lip to look book-cover ready.
Cardi B with a bowl cut is epic. Shop for the best bubblegum-colored wig you can find, then carefully cut it in a bowl-cut shape. Grab an outfit — including boots, sunglasses, and a purse — in the same pink color. Don’t forget to stick on pink-embellished nails. This monochromatic look will take your Halloween to new heights.
The Sanderson Sisters from Hocus Pocus
Nothing says Halloween like watching (and rewatching) Hocus Pocus, so why not dress up as the Sanderson sisters for the occasion? If you’re not keen on a do-it-yourself costume, there are a bunch of options you can buy online. Keep a crimson lipstick on hand — and dab plenty on your cheeks too.
Ted Lasso
Become everyone’s favorite soccer coach, Ted Lasso, in just a few steps. First, get a fake mustache or grow one out, put on some aviator Ray-Bans, then get decked out in a full AFC Richmond kit. And be prepared to share your best inspirational quotes.
Wanda Maximoff from WandaVision
Take the fiery route by dressing as Wanda Maximoff from WandaVision . Grab a copper wig (if you haven’t been blessed with naturally red hair), a red cape and dress, and a Scarlet Witch headpiece. If you don’t have time to build your own costume, there are many complete cosplay outfits available online.
Eddie Munson from Stranger Things
If you’ve been considering a mullet, transforming into Eddie Munson from Stranger Things for Halloween is still the perfect way to give the look a try. But if you’re just looking for a makeover that will last one night, there are wigs a-plenty on Amazon that you can style at home. After you've completed your hair look, all that's left is to make a Hellfire T-shirt before you’re ready to lead the club.
Your Favorite Euphoria Character
We were going to choose one Euphoria character , but the truth is, we just can't do it. There are so many gorgeous looks to pick from in this show, a big part of the fun is deciding on your favorite. The aim of the game here is glitter, embellishments, vibrant hues, and a truckload of confidence. Imagine your wildest makeup fantasy and then give it a go. It doesn’t matter what the end result is, it’s about having a good time — and adding more color and crystals even after you think you’re finished. If you need a little help, these TikTok tutorials are a great place to start.
With a little green paint, pointed ears, and a light brown coat, you can transform into one of the sweetest Star Wars characters of all time. If you don't have time to create the costume yourself, try one of the many pre-made Baby Yoda costumes available online.
Kylie Jenner on Her 21st Birthday
Whether she's wearing a latex dress , an all-black ensemble , or something in between, this Jenner doesn't mess around. One of her most notable style moments was the pink look she wore to her 21st-birthday party. Grab your friends and re-create the Kardashian-Jenner group Barbie pic , or dress like Kylie for the ultimate solo look. All you’ll need is a hot-pink satin dress and a platinum-blond wig . And take lots of selfies.
Justin and Hailey Bieber
Justin and Hailey Bieber have rocked numerous coordinating outfits that are perfect for Halloween. But among their more memorable fashion moments, we'd like to suggest the one that featured Versace and hotel slippers . To re-create Hailey’s look, paint the word “Versace” on a matching denim outfit, while your partner sports some baggy athletic shorts, black tube socks, and a pair of cozy white slippers.
Jessica Rabbit
Dress up like sultry icon Jessica Rabbit , a costume that was perfected by Heidi Klum at one of her famous Halloween parties. Latex purple gloves and a bright red dress with a dangerously revealing slit are nonnegotiable for this costume. To complete the look, grab a red wig from any party store and your go-to purple eye shadow palette. Here's a cute Jessica Rabbit makeup tutorial to help you perfect that cartoon smoky eye.
Lady Gaga's Meat Dress
One of the most memorable moments in VMA history is still when Lady Gaga arrived on the red carpet wearing a dress made of raw meat . Duplicate this terrifying fashion statement with a little bit of "bloody" mummy wrap, a tie-dyed shirt, and some clever crafting skills. To re-create Gaga’s look, follow the DIY video — or skip the hassle and purchase a ready-to-wear bacon-inspired dress .
Rachel Chu from Crazy Rich Asians
Honor the groundbreaking film by re-creating one of its many stunning costume designs, like Rachel Chu's blue tulle dress. Make sure to avoid yellow face — there’s a difference between paying homage to a movie’s beautiful costumes and being racist.
Heidi Klum's Clones
Haunt the town with your friends as Heidi Klum’s 2016 Halloween costume. You’ll need blond wigs, neutral bodysuits, false lashes, and suede thigh-high boots. Oh, and a fierce pose.
Cardi B at the 2018 Met Gala
Re-create Cardi B’s jaw-dropping 2018 Met Gala look , complete with a bejeweled crown and stunning gold train. It might be best to DIY this costume with a simple gold dress, additional gold satin for the train, and more (fake) jewels than you think you’ll need. The sparklier the better.
Inside the Human Body
Skeletons are so last year. This frightening (and impressive) makeup look might take a few hours to complete, but it'll be worth it when you show up to your Halloween party as a skinless human being and scare friends and strangers alike. To achieve this all-too-real effect, grab a bald cap, your favorite shade of red makeup, and follow this helpful tutorial .
Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake
Throw it back to 2001 by busting out Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake’s all-denim ensemble from the red carpet at the American Music Awards. Head to a thrift store for some vintage denim finds, translucent sunglasses, and a denim fedora. Add a bit of bling with a costume-jewelry choker, belt, and bracelet for Britney.
Sure, you could dress like Cher from Clueless this Halloween, or you could dress up as the musical icon and Mamma Mia 2 star, Cher . Let’s just say there are plenty of costume ideas to choose from on the internet, but if you really want to channel the spirit of this '70s superstar, buy yourself a sheer bodysuit and top it off with lingerie and a statement jacket. Of course, it wouldn’t be a Cher outfit without her signature black hair and thigh-high boots, which can be found at your local mall.
Candy Rappers
Take a cue from Chrissie Fit and Kelley Jakle and use Halloween as an excuse to wear a punny costume like "candy rapper." Get it? This low-cost costume will give you an excuse to eat a whole bag of Halloween candy and a reason to purchase a new sweatsuit — and to stick candy wrappers on it. Accessorize with plenty of fake (or real, you do you) gold jewelry and carry a bag of candy around to share with fellow partygoers.
Baz Luhrmann's Romeo + Juliet
Whether you’re a hipster on a budget or a massive Leonardo DiCaprio fan, dressing up as Baz Luhrmann's Romeo + Juliet characters is a cute take on the idea of a couples costume. To get Juliet’s look, you'll need a white sleeveless dress and a pair of feathered angel wings. For Romeo, pair a tropical button-down shirt with black pants — and a few blond highlights to complete the look.
The Carters in "Apeshit"
In 2018, power couple Beyoncé and Jay Z blessed the world with their music video for “Apeshit.” You and your beau can get the duo’s powerful coordinated look too — all you need is a brond curly wig , pantsuits in pink and mint green, and a ton of flashy jewels, courtesy of Cartier.… or your local Party City.
Eras of Britney Spears
Take group costumes to a whole new level by embracing some of Britney Spears’s most outrageous looks throughout the years. Bring it back to the early aughts with the “Slave 4 U” performance outfit (complete with a stuffed snake), re-create Britney’s sleek red catsuit from “Oops, I Did It Again,” and reinterpret her “...Baby One More Time” outfit with a classic school uniform and pink pom-pom ties.
Sabrina Spellman
Celebrate Halloween and Netflix’s Chilling Adventures of Sabrina by dressing up as the title character. To achieve this look, rock a blond bob with an all-black outfit and a bright red overcoat . Invoke Sabrina's not-so-trusty sidekick, Salem, by carrying a stuffed black cat.
Beyoncé as Barbie
Copy Beyoncé’s clever 2016 Halloween costume and transform yourself into a real-life, throwback Barbie doll. Dress in a vintage-looking, black-and-white one-piece swimsuit, then paint a cardboard box to look like the doll's packaging. Here’s a great example of how to nail this amazing look without too much effort.
Distorted Face
Of course, Halloween is about so much more than making pop culture references. If you're looking for something a little scarier this holiday, test this terrifying look from Nikkie Tutorials . You'll need a lot of time, patience, and a creepy white contact lens to pull it off, but it will be so worth it.
Josie and the Pussycats
If you want to repurpose cat ears from Halloweens past, look no further than the 2001 film Josie and the Pussycats for inspo. Re-create this girl band's signature feline aesthetic by dressing in chic leopard-print clothing while toting a (fake) electric guitar. Don’t worry, there’s no need to paint a little nose and whiskers on your face — instead, invest in a cute choker to complete the outifit.
Animated Skeleton
Fine , Halloween really wouldn't be Halloween without a creepy skeleton look. To create this budget-friendly costume, dress in black and follow this tutorial for an ultra-realistic skeleton. Will you scare everyone you come in contact with? Probably. Will you look totally amazing? Absolutely.
A Star Is Born Couples Costume
A star is born, but a costume is made , thanks to Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga’s update of the film. For the ultimate Halloween couples costume on a budget, grab your boo (pun not intended) and aim for Jackson Maine and Ally’s simple look, no Gucci required . Pro tip: Sling an acoustic guitar on your back and carry a pair of microphones so you’re ready to sing karaoke from the movie at any moment.
Björk's Swan Dress
Before Miley Cyrus wore a swan dress on Hanna Montana , Björk was making waves with her daring take on on the look. Bring the ’90s back to life this Halloween by revisiting Björk's memorable get-up. The costume isn’t too hard to DIY — make your own by following this tutorial .
Audrey Hepburn in Roman Holiday
While everyone else is walking around town dressed as Audrey Hepburn's Holly Golightly, dedicate your Halloween costume to another of her iconic characters, the ever-glamorous Princess Ann from Roman Holiday . You can channel the princess's sleek, sophisticated style with a white button-down shirt, a colorful high-waisted skirt, a patterned ascot, and neutral-colored heels.
Paris Hilton Circa 2002
Paris Hilton will always be a fashionista, but there’s something about her 2002 looks that are especially suited to Halloween. Try Hilton’s all-blue New York Fashion Week ensemble. You will need a low-waisted miniskirt, bold eye makeup, a matching blue hat, and the perfect pair of stilettos.
Stitched-Together Doll
Give off serious Tim Burton vibes by transforming yourself into a stitched-together doll. All you'll need is colorful body paint, a neon wig, and a black-and-white outfit to complete the look. Bring it together with some Sally-inspired makeup .
The Breakfast Club
You and four of your closest friends can bring the eclectic group of Breakfast Club characters back to life this Halloween. The best part? You probably have most of these character-defining clothes in your closet already — or at least know someone who does.
The Shining Twins
Let your spooky side take control this Halloween and get into the spirit of the twins from The Shining. You and your bestie should dress in identical frilly blue dresses with pink sashes , white knee socks, Mary Janes, and plenty of fake blood to make it extra scary. Add a torn-up teddy bear and ringlet curls and you're ready to creep out everyone.
Magical Unicorn
Mythical or not, unicorns will definitely approve of any costume covered in tons of glitter, rainbows, and flowers. Take a cue from Alessandra Ambrosio and wear bright-blue contacts with a white wig and dress, or follow this makeup tutorial to perfect your magical Halloween costume.
The unofficial backup costume of...everyone. "It's foolproof," says makeup artist Ashleigh Ciucci. “You can't mess up a cat.” What you can do is add a little more flavor with expertly applied cat-eyes. Use a black waterproof eyeliner pencil to draw a dot on the tip of your nose and whiskers on your cheeks. (Three or four evenly spaced lines angling out from the bulb of your nose should do.) Use a liquid eyeliner to trace a thin strip along your upper lash line, extending the color out slightly at the corners for a cat-eye effect. Apply a baby pink lip color.
You'll also need ears and a tail for this otherwise sparse costume. If the costume shop is out of stock, try the drugstore – they often carry them.
Kim Kardashian
If you've kept up with the Kardashians, you know what you really need to complete Kim's look is two friends to go as Khloé and Kourtney. As for getting Kim's signature aesthetic, though, start with concealer as needed. Apply foundation, then get ready to contour like crazy: Take a second foundation that's two shades darker than your base and apply it to the hollows of your cheeks, says makeup artist Quinn Murphy. "Then use a bronzer to further deepen that contouring."
Take that same bronzer and dust it on your forehead and the tip of your chin. Apply a peachy pink blush to the apples of your cheeks, and exaggerate your brows by filling them in with a pencil, ending them at a point. Use black eyeliner pencil along the top lash lines and the inner rim of the bottom of your eyes, and then smudge the color. "Go over what you did in pencil with black matte eye shadow to make it stronger," says Murphy. "Apply a taupe shadow in the crease and a lighter silver or shimmery pink shade on the center of the lid and on the brow bone."
"Apply a full strip of false eyelashes, then coat on tons of black mascara," says Murphy. Line your lips with a neutral pencil and fill them in with a pinky-neutral lipstick or gloss. If your hair isn't already similar to Kim's, a long, black wig completes the look.
Retro Flight Attendants
After you've raided the thrift store for a knee-length skirt and matching blazer, clear late-'60s/early-'70s makeup for landing. Winged liner is what really sells this look. "Concentrate on making the line a little thicker at the outer corners and then wing it up," says makeup artist Erica Whelan. Choose a taupe eye shadow for the crease of your eyes and a pastel, such as baby blue or sea-foam green, for the lids. Highlight the brow bone with a pearly highlighter.
"It was not an era of false lashes," says Whelan. Instead, layer volumizing mascara on the upper and lower lashes. "If you have full brows, just comb them. If you don't, fill them in with a natural color, but don't exaggerate them."
Brush pink blush on the apples of your cheeks. "You want a simple, rosy flush — not sculpted cheekbones," she says. Slide on a coral or retro frosty pink lipstick.
A vintage Pan Am pillbox hat would certainly nail this costume, but the real thing goes for thousands on eBay. Better to check your costume shop for a generic version or bust out blue construction paper.
To bring the peacenik aesthetic into our current political climate, all it takes are some flared jeans, a flowy top or tie-dyed T-shirt, and flower-power makeup. Use a colored eyeliner to draw a peace sign, flower, or heart on your cheek. Keep lids bare for a crunchy, no-makeup appearance, but do swipe on tons of mascara for a doe-eyed look. "Peachy nude lips are very late-'60s," says Ciucci. "Young women were breaking out and leaving their mom's red lipstick behind."
Try a funky headband, bandana, or flower crown on your head. Your hair can be any texture, but for authenticity's sake, it shouldn't be overworked — keep it natural.
Try going old-school with the traditional Transylvanian bloodsucker. Use a foundation in a shade that's noticeably lighter than your skin. "Then apply a matte translucent powder so that your skin is flawless and pale," says Ciucci. "Really pack it on."
Create the image of blood dribbling from the corners of your mouth with a liquid stain, red lipstick, or cream blush. " Benefit Benetint is drippy and has a bloodlike texture," says Ciucci.
Fill in brows with a dark brown or black pencil for a strong, exaggerated appearance. "Use lots of mascara, but just on the outer half of the lashes," says Ciucci. "This is less Edward and Bella and more Bram Stoker's Dracula ."
For something extra, go for fangs. A cape is optional, but you can make this homemade costume in a pinch. "If you have a white collared shirt, wear a pendant at the top button," says Ciucci.
Holly Golightly
You know you have a little black dress in your closet. To really embody Audrey Hepburn's Holly Golightly, it's more a matter of getting the makeup right.
After applying foundation, concealer, and loose powder, dust a pink blush on the apples of your cheeks. Use a dark pencil (black or brown, depending on your hair color) to fill in and shape your brows. "They should be very square and fade out into a fine tip," says Murphy. Apply a taupe eye shadow in the crease of your eyes, concentrating the color on the outer two-thirds. Follow with a neutral shade all over the lids. Then, with a liquid liner, trace along the upper lash lines. The line should be thickest at the center, then taper all the way to the outer corners. "Give it a flick outward," says Murphy. Brush on black mascara, or try false lashes — either individual or a somewhat natural-looking strip. With a neutral lip liner, define the lip and apply a coral or a pinky-peach lipstick.
Add oversize sunglasses, opera gloves, a large faux-pearl necklace, and a shimmering tiara. (Ask your friend who just had her bachelorette party for the latter and save a few dollars.)
Here's another classic Halloween costume that requires little more than you already owning a black dress. If you want a prettier take, leave the novelty nose out of it and go glam goth. Even out your skin tone, taking your foundation a couple of shades lighter for a ghoulish effect. "A smoky eye is powerful and sexy," says Murphy. Rim the top and bottom lash lines with black liner, and then exaggerate the stroke at the outer corners. Use a brush to smudge the liner and smoke it out. Then, use a dark brown eye shadow over the lid and put a little underneath the eyes on the bottom lash line.
A neutral lip with a smoky eye is standard fare and will look great. But if you want to make more of a statement, go red or black. (It is a costume, after all.) And remember: All witches have moles — it's practically a rule. You can keep it cute with a Cindy Crawford-style beauty mark.
Don't forget a witch hat, your household broom, or to really kill it, a Swiffer.

Best Luggage for International Travel to Make Your Trip Abroad Easy and Enjoyable
Our evaluations and opinions are not influenced by our advertising relationships, but we may earn a commission from our partners’ links. This content is created independently from TIME’s editorial staff. Learn more about it.
More Americans are traveling abroad with over “one-in-five Americans planning on vacationing in a foreign country in the near future,” according to Reuters . I myself head to Sweden for a few weeks every summer to visit my in-laws, and packing our suitcases with clothes—both sweaters and bathing suits because Swedish weather can be unpredictable—along with gifts for relatives is a days-long undertaking.
When traveling internationally, most people focus on important stuff like updating passports, understanding customs requirements, making hotel reservations, and planning exciting itineraries, but choosing the right luggage for your long-haul trip ranks up there in ensuring you and yours have a fun and hassle-free trip.
“Choosing the right luggage helps to keep your trip smooth and uncomplicated,” says Ivette Manner s, a travel and bridal writer who goes around the globe for her job several times a year. “I travel often for work and leisure and like to keep things simple. You don’t want to rush through airports, customs, taxis, and public transport being bogged down with a lot of baggage—and you don’t want to make the mistake of leaving anything crucial behind.” she says.
What to consider when choosing luggage for international travel
Situation equals size.
Whether you’re jetting off for a weekend wedding or embarking on a multi-city trip will help you decide which type of suitcase you need: carry-on, mid size, oversized, weekender, and more. Also, how many are in your party? Traveling solo or with family, friends, or loved ones?
Visiting Europe with my family for two or three weeks means we need larger, checked luggage paired with smaller carry-on backpacks and totes for the flights. When traveling for work, Manners takes “one roomy, zip-top tote bag and a medium-size suitcase.” The length of stay, and purpose of travel will help determine the size and type of luggage you need.
Airline compliance
It is zero fun to have to check your carry-on last-minute or pay extra exorbitant fees because you overstuffed your luggage and exceeded weight and size limits. “As soon as you book your flight, check the airline’s baggage allowance and restrictions policy,” cautions Manners, so you can stay within the baggage dimensions. “It’s a good idea to invest in a bag within the baggage dimensions allowed by the airline(s) you frequently travel on, so you’re not surprised at the airport with extra baggage charges,” she adds.
According to TravelPro , while most domestic airlines allow you up to 35 pounds for carry-on baggage for domestic flights and 50 pounds max for checked luggage (though you can pay extra for up to 70 pounds), international travel often caps carry-ons at 18 pounds. The exception being British Airways which allows a whopping 51 pounds for carry-on bags! Kayak says that a carry-on bag should be no longer than 21.5 inches long, though this does vary airline by airline and I have friends who swear they fly everywhere with their 22-inch long carry-on. To be safe, and avoid trouble, always check ahead to know your baggage allowance before your trip!
To stay in compliance—and if you’re someone who tends to overpack (insert raised hand emoji)—Manners recommends getting a luggage scale to keep yourself in check. “Some people also swear by packing cubes,” adds Manners, which some say allows you to pack even more while keeping clothing sorted and wrinkle-free. If you’re new to, but interested in packing cubes, Manners recommends purchasing inexpensive options on Amazon to see if they would work for you before your next big trip.
Luggage should last years and is a worthy investment, but with many high-quality and low-cost options on the market you don’t have to break the bank. Legacy names like Samsonite keep innovation and quality high while still being fairly priced. “Look at a brand’s warranty,” advises Manners, which safeguards against wear, tear, and damages that happen frequently with luggage. For instance, the premium brand, Briggs and Riley , comes with a higher price tag but a lifetime guarantee. I chose bags for this list from around $100 to several hundred dollars to meet all your price points and needs.
Materials and mobility
“People love those fancy aluminum suitcases ,” says Manners. “But while they look super chic, they’re not always practical, not to mention super expensive.” They get banged up and scratched and you have to take them to the brand to get repaired. “But polycarbonate hard shell suitcases can take more wear,” she says. Other things to consider in a suitcase are the materials: are you looking for soft or hardshell? Also, pay attention and test out zippers, locks, roomy interior compartments that can expand, and the durability and quality of wheels.

Best size luggage for international travel
“I like medium-size check-in suitcases,” says Manners.” It helps keep you from overpacking, but allows you to take what you need for a week of travel. And you’ll be able to move around easier in transit.” If traveling alone or sharing a suitcase, we find medium size suitcases (usually around 26-28 inches in length) to be ideal. Look for suitcases that can expand and compress for extra packing needs. Weighing around 10 pounds empty, you can pack a lot, but make sure you don’t go over the airline weight limits.
Tips for buying a suitcase for international travel
Online retailers and outlet stores are both great places to buy luggage , especially during major shopping days. But you should first check the baggage requirements of the airline you intend to fly, including restrictions, and extra charges, so you’re not met with any surprises.
Once you’ve determined your right size, Manners suggest “finding one with well-made spinning wheels and a comfortable, sturdy retractable handle.” Another thing to consider is the material, like soft side, hard side, waterproof, etc. And don’t forget important details, like durable zippers, solid locks, and lots of room and interior compartments to pack everything you need. Many brands offer 60-100-day free trials and money-back guarantees, so utilize these policies to try out the luggage before you invest.
How we selected the best luggage for international travel
As a former travel writer and editor myself, I have zig-zagged continents for work and leisure. I also tapped jet-setting friends, colleagues, and experts who weighed in on their favorite luggage. I tested different brands, read through customer reviews and looked at certain criteria.
Luggage size and type
Whether you’re jetting off for a swanky girls weekend or a longer trip abroad, the type of trip you’re taking will help determine which luggage to choose, so I rated them all (weekender, duffel, backpack, carry-on, larger checked suitcases, and trunks), examining their storage capacity, expandability, organizational features, weight, and construction.
Features and materials
Luggage these days offer so many high-tech features, like charging ports and nearly-indestructible thermoplastic exteriors, as well as fun extras including laundry bags, TSA-approved locks, multiple storage capabilities, along with lifetime guarantees that will help your luggage last a lifetime.
International airline compliance
I found international baggage allowance to differ slightly from American domestic, so be sure and check your airline baggage requirements first before travel. That said, for carry-ons, the general rule of thumb is for an international carry-on to be no bigger than 21.5-21.7 inches long and weigh 18 pounds. Again, while rules (and adherence) vary from airline to airline, to be safe, I chose carry-ons that meet these requirements.
I chose luggage at every price point and chose the best in class across the board from budget to luxe in all types of luggage.
Frequently asked questions (FAQs)
Which luggage brand is best for international travel.
Well-known luggage brands like Samsonite and Travelpro have earned reputations for both quality and affordability, so they made my list. “I really recommend Away and TravelPro suitcases,” adds Manners. I also included more expensive options like Briggs & Riley, because their no-questions-asked lifetime guarantee on all of their luggage is unmatched industry wide.
Is hard luggage better than soft for international travel?
“Some people love hard case bags, but I find that you can pack more things in a softside suitcase.” says Manners. Hardside versus softside is really a preference. Softside seems to scuff less because of the treated materials, while hardside suitcases can also handle wear and tear and seem to be more trendy these days.
What is the best material for checked luggage?
“That depends on preference, but a nylon with coating to prevent scuffs and scratches for softside luggage, and polycarbonate-shell or thermoplastic are incredibly durable If you like hard case suitcases,” says Manners.
How many suitcases can you take on an international flight?
This often depends on the type of airplane ticket you purchase. Some tickets include your first checked bag for free, then you have to pay a fee for additional bags. Other tickets don’t include baggage, so you’ll have to pay a certain fee for the first checked-in bag, plus fees for additional bags. Look into bag allowances before you buy your tickets, warns Manners, so you can factor the cost of your checked bags into your flight—and avoid surprises at the airport.

Everything We’ve Written About That’s Currently on Sale at Sephora
Skin-care, makeup, hair-care, and more.
We’ve done a lot of deep diving into skin care, makeup, and hair care, and many of our top picks in these categories can be found at Sephora — occasionally even on sale. To help you find the best deals at the retailer, we’ve rounded up everything we’ve written about that’s currently on sale. This includes the very best moisturizers (both tinted and sheer), the body lotion Rachel Antonoff has recommended to us on three separate occasions, and plenty of products to help you get a year-round summer glow. It’s a particularly good moment to stock up or replace your empties: Sephora’s Savings Event is happening right now, so you can find almost everything on sale.
Depending on your Beauty Insider status, you can score up to 20 percent off your entire purchase by using the code YAYSAVE at checkout until April 15. Rouge members get 20 percent off, VIB members earn 15 percent off, and Insider members get 10 percent off. But everyone — Beauty Insider or not — can take 30 percent off Sephora Collection products, which includes the concealer that we’ve called a dupe for Tarte’s Shape Tape . I’ve gone ahead and applied the 20 percent Rouge discount to all of the items here. Also, Dyson’s beloved hair tools are finally included in this insider sale, so I’ve put a few of those on the list. While you’re here, be sure to sign up for our email newsletter to find out about other worthwhile sales.

Innovative Costume of the 21st Century: The Next Generation
By: Sandy Bonds
The World Costume Design Curatorial committee is proud to announce its second major exhibition entitled Innovative Costume of the 21 st Century: The Next Generation. This exhibit was conceived through the collaboration between A.A. Bakhrushin State Central Theatre Museum, OISTAT, and USITT. The world premiere will be held at the State Historical Museum in Moscow, Russia, June-August 2019.
This exhibition will feature innovative work of young professionals, students, independent costume and fashion designers, and interpreters and costume makers from 57 nations worldwide who started their career between 2000 and 2018. Costume renderings, collages, photographs, computer-generated designs, videos, and 3-D costumes created by designers for cinema, opera, ballet, theatre, devised work, performing arts, and fashion will be showcased.
This project is an international endeavor to identify how media, technology, and shifting national identities form us afresh and affect our perception and practice of theatre, breaking previously established boundaries and principles.
We intend to document the new artistic vocabulary originated by the next generation of the emerging artists and create a platform for a dialogue on the topical issues in the field of modern design and technology.

If your closet is filled with bags hiding inside of other bags that rarely ever get used, it might be time to streamline your accessories. Instead of hanging on to multiple different bags for multiple different functions, why not opt for a more versatile pack that works for both commuting and traveling? That's where the backpack/tote hybrid comes in.
Backpacks that seamlessly transition into totes are a go-to staple if you need a multi-purpose bag that suits an on-the-go lifestyle. By having a few options on how to wear your bag, you can solve a lot of problems, from bulbous backpacks not fitting on crowded trains, to the one-sided shoulder strain of carrying a shoulder bag. A dual-purpose bag also makes for the perfect everyday and travel accessory, meaning your work bag can also moonlight as your new carry-on.
The best part? Some of these backpack and tote bag combos are so smartly designed, you can stow away straps when you're not using them or easily transition between different wears without having to detach or reattach anything. And to make things even easier, we've rounded up some of the best options out there so you're sure to find something that suits you.

Best overall
When it comes to travel-smart bags, there are few that are more cleverly designed than Lo & Son's Edgemont bag . This 15-liter capacity bag is incredibly versatile, coming with a removable insert that can fit a 13-inch laptop with two interior mesh pockets to comfortably house a water bottle or umbrella. Stash pockets on the side allow for discreet-yet-easily accessible spots to keep passports, documents, or your phone, while a handy and detachable key ring makes sure your keys stay on you. The best part? The minimalist bag is made from eco-friendly materials like high-density polyester created from plastic bottles.
When we reviewed the Lo & Sons Edgemont, we were absolutely obsessed with how well it works for travel. Its size fits perfectly under airline seats, while the suitcase sleeve allows you to hook the bag on top of your carry-on so you can wheel it around the airport. The extra comfy straps that transition between a backpack and a tote are also padded with memory foam, so you never feel any discomfort, no matter how stressful travel gets.

Best budget
If you're in a rush to find a versatile travel bag at a decent price, the CYUREAY Convertible Backpack is an excellent option. Coming in at just under $30, this Amazon favorite comes with a USB charging port stored inside the bag, allowing you to charge your phone on-the-go. The water-resistant fabric means you can bring this pack along with you during unpredictable weather, while the large internal capacity allows you to travel with everything you need, including a laptop as large as 15.6-inches. Shoulder straps are reinforced with padding to ensure comfort when you go into backpack mode. There's even a suitcase strap on the back so you can easily slide your bag onto your carry-on as you breeze through the airport.
Best for work
The perfect work bag needs to be both stylish and functional, especially during longer commutes, and the Aurora by KREYA is just that. If you're on the go, and need to quickly transition your backpack into a tote, just pull on the X-shaped handles to seamlessly transform your backpack straps into a bag handle. Then, when your arm gets tired and it's time to distribute the weight of your bag more evenly, pull down on your straps to carry it as a backpack.
In addition to its sleek leather design, the Aurora features a main zippered compartment that can comfortably fit a 14-inch laptop. An interior pocket makes the perfect home for your cell phone, or you can store your phone in the exterior pocket to reach it with ease. Metal snaps on the side of the bag help it to expand when you're carrying a bit extra. It even comes with a carefully crafted dust bag for storage so your leather stays clean and supple.
Best for travel
At the top of our list is the Vapor Convertible Tote Backpack because it's sustainably made and functions incredibly well as both a tote bag and a backpack. Padded backpacks straps make for comfortable carrying and stow away easily into an exterior back pocket. Ready to go from tote-mode to backpack-mode again? The tote straps, which are the perfect length for shoulder wear, stow away seamlessly in the same pocket.
Because the pack is made from eco-friendly, hard-wearing materials like recycled nylon fibers, it's bound to last for years, even if you always take advantage of its spacious 18-liter capacity. But with the extensive interior comes a variety of smartly designed compartments to ensure all the gear you pack with you never gets lost. A hidden external zip pocket makes for easy access to items you want to keep concealed, while two tri-cut lined interior slip pockets house valuables like your phone, sunglasses, or Airpods without scratching them. Within the main interior compartment you'll find a padded laptop sleeve that can fit laptops and tablets up to 15 inches long, along with all of your other necessities. The totepack even meets TSA standards for carry-ons, so it makes for the perfect travel bag as well.
Best splurge
Why compromise on style when opting for versatility when you can have both? When we reviewed The Senreve Maestra Bag , we found that this somewhat pricey bag is absolutely worth the price. It is effortlessly sleek and fashion-forward, made with 100% leather in both pebbled and long-grain finishes, featuring a smooth suede interior. With the structured, water-repellent exterior comes plenty of compartments on the interior featuring eight different places to store your valuables including a padded laptop compartment, a hidden back compartment, and several small side pockets.
The Maestra Bag takes that versatility a step further with four possible ways to style the bag – it can be worn as a tote, crossbody, satchel, or backpack, depending on your mood. While the top features a flap and the Maestra's signature studded belt closure, the bag also has an interior zipper to keep all your belongings safe.
Most stylish
Speaking of sleek, streamlined style, if you're looking to make a statement at the office or during your commute, reach for the Cole Haan Grand Ambition Convertible Backpack. Made with pebbled leather which is known for being more scratch-resistant, this structured bag can be worn as a backpack, crossbody bag, or shoulder bag by adjusting the leather straps. A large front pocket helps you access your items quickly while a zippered back compartment keeps valuables hidden.
On the interior, you'll find a water-resistant lining featuring a separate, padded laptop sleeve along with a larger main compartment and several smaller pockets to house items like your phone or e-reader. The bag also comes with a dust bag to store it and keep it clean on the days you're not showing it off.
Best on Amazon
Tote Pack is no different. Coming in at under $60, this bag can carry a day's-worth of items whether you're traveling or hiking, thanks to its 13-liter capacity. The main zippered compartment features a dedicated laptop sleeve that can fit a computer up to 16 inches in length, while the exterior features two smaller zippered pockets to store items like your phone. You can feel confident that your pack is also made from sustainable materials, with the pack's outer fabric created from a durable and water-repellant recycled nylon that gives the bag its vintage feel.
Best leather
Italian-made luxury meets effortless versatility with the M. Gemi Laura Convertible Backpack. Made from supple tumbled calf leather, the bag's slouchy silhouette offers a touch of style and is roomy enough to fit a laptop, cosmetics bag, water bottle, and any of your other essentials. Inside you'll find a lightweight, linen lining along with a zippered compartment to keep valuables hidden and two open pockets for easy access.
The best part of this bag, however, is how easily it can transition between a backpack and a tote: simply pull up on the straps when you want to wear it on your shoulder, or pull down on both side straps to convert it into a backpack.
Best for school
There's no need to choose between a backpack or tote for the school year when the Timbuk2 Scholar Convertible Tote Backpack allows you to have both. Designed for the needs of students, this bag features adjustable backpack straps that tuck away into your pack when you want to transition into tote-mode.
The exterior has two zippered pockets, one bigger and one smaller, to fit a variety of necessities you need quick access to. Dual side pockets are perfect for toting around your water bottle, umbrella, or both, while the larger interior compartment comes with an internal slip pocket that can house a 13-inch laptop. With the 900D recycled polyester exterior, you can be sure that this bag is durable enough to last the whole academic year.
For more of our favorite school bag picks, see our guide to the best college backpacks .
If sustainably made accessories are your priority, opt for the Sherpani Soleil AT Bag. The incredibly durable, water-resistant fabric has been made from 40 repurposed plastic bottles, with all the featured detailing made from vegan leather. The bag is also lightweight and features a removable strap that can be adjusted to tote- or crossbody-length, in addition to the bag's two backpack straps.
There are few unique safety features that come with this bag that make it a handy travel essential. A chair-lock loop at the back of the bag allows you to attach your bag to your chair for added security. The main compartment also has a clip lock to prevent valuables from being stolen. For even more security, the bag has been designed with an anti-slash fabric at the bottom and on the main strap, so you can feel confident your belongings will remain concealed.
Best water-repellant
For a weather-resistant pack made for both travel and outdoor activities, we recommend the Kånken Totepack by Fjallraven. Made from a combination of organic cotton, recycled polyester, and hard-wearing Vinylon F fabric, the backpack tote combo is water-resistant, wind-resistant, and quick-drying if you get caught in a sudden downpour. The bag also features webbed straps that convert easily from a tote to a backpack without the need for reattachment. There's even a shorter top handle for quick grab-and-go access.
As far as compartments go, this totepack has a main zippered compartment fitted with an internal laptop sleeve pocket that can fit a computer up to 13 inches in length. On the exterior, you also have a smaller zippered front pocket for easy access to your items, along with two open side pockets for water bottles or umbrellas. The most unique feature, however, is the removable seat pad you can find stored in the main compartment, so you can take a break wherever you are.
