After checking in at the Blue Hawaiian Helicopters office in Kahului Airport, friendly members of staff will provide you with a brief safety orientation and answer any questions you may have about the upcoming flight.

Starting with nearby coastal resorts, your pilot will guide you through a series of breathtaking sights that culminate and incredible passes through the deeply carved valleys of the West Maui Mountains.

With the time remaining on your extended flight, cross the Pailolo Channel to Molokai for a visit to its world-famous sea cliffs and other sights around the tucked-away community of Kalaupapa.

• Children of all ages can participate in this activity.
• Do not go SCUBA diving within 24 hours or SNUBA 12 hours prior to your tour. You may snorkel or swim prior to your tour and there is no risk in SCUBA or SNUBA after your helicopter tour.
• Wheelchair accessibility: The tour is wheelchair accessible and ADA compliant. Each base has a custom built chair lift to assist passengers into the helicopter safely and comfortably. The chair lifts are only able to access the rear row of seats therefore guests requiring a chair lift to board the helicopter cannot be accommodated in the front row. The chair lifts are able to accommodate passengers up to 250 lbs. However, wheelchairs and portable oxygen tanks will not be allowed on board.
• Combined front row seat weight must be under 470 lbs.
• Front row passengers must occupy their own seats and must be able to refrain from interfering with the pilot and instrumentation. Lap children cannot be accommodated in the front row. In the event of an emergency front row passengers must be able to receive instructions in English and be physically capable of operating exit doors.
• Hats, scarves or bandannas, iPads or tablet computers, purses, bags or camera bags, selfie sticks, and extendable wands are not permitted on the aircraft.
• This activity is wheelchair accessible.
• Wheelchair Accessibility: The Front Row Upgrade is NOT wheelchair accessible.

• Participants are required to sign a liability waiver at the time of check-in.
• Minors are required to have a parent or guardian sign their liability waiver.
• In accordance with FAA regulations, each guest will be weighed upon check-in to ensure proper balance of the aircraft. Misrepresentation of body weight prior to check-in could result in denial of service without refund.
• The additional cost for guests weighing 240 lbs. (108.86 kg) and over is to secure an adjacent seat that will remain empty for the duration of the flight. This is to help properly balance the aircraft and ensure the comfort of all passengers. For each guest weighing more than 240 lbs., an adjacent, empty seat purchase is required.
• You must check-in at least 45 minutes prior to your activity start time.
• All mobile phones must remain in airplane mode while in the helicopter.

Getting out in the middle of nowhere is a really memorable experience as you land someplace that hardly anybody else gets to experience. Refreshments are served while you take 20 minutes to enjoy the breathtaking scenery, pastoral setting, and sweeping views from this special landing location high on the slopes of Haleakala.

It never ceases to amaze me that people spend thousands of dollars to come to Hawaii, but think it is too expensive to spend another $300-$400 to REALLY see the islands from a helicopter. There is so much beauty that you cannot see any other way. Do yourself a favor and SPLURGE! You will thank me.

Flying in a helicopter is like riding a magic carpet. They are much more stable than twin engine planes … motion sickness is seldom an issue for anyone. They cut through the wind like a knife. Thrill seekers may wish for a more roller coaster-like experience but the pilots fly a very gentle pattern. Don't expect plunging drops and steeply banked turns.

The best time for helicopter tours (as a rule) is in the morning hours, as cloud cover tends to get thicker throughout the afternoon. Don't feel badly if it looks cloudy just before your flight though … helicopters can fly just under the cloud ceiling, which typically is around 4,000 feet. Clouds and rain can add an element of mystical mystery. Check out some of the waterfall photos for an example.

All helicopter tours leave from the Kahului Heliport. Plan on a 45 minute drive from Lahaina / Kaanapali Resorts, 60 minutes from Kapalua, 30 minutes from Kihei and 45 minutes from Wailea. Save yourself some driving … consider planning the helicopter tour for early morning on the day that you drive to Hana.

Wear dark clothing for your helicopter flight. A light colored shirt will cause a reflection on the windows … you won't notice it during your flight, but it shows up like crazy in any pictures you take. A polarizing filter on the front of your camera will also help remove window glare (and greatly improve pictures that you take of the ocean too).

A note about weight restrictions. Almost all companies in Hawaii charge extra for heavier passengers. This is not a matter of discrimination toward larger guests … it is a business reality due to the spatial limitations of the passenger compartment. The cost and profit margins of the helicopter companies is based upon their helicopters flying with every seat occupied. If the helicopter holds 6 passengers and the size of a guest means that they can only comfortably seat 5, they are losing money. The "comfort seat" is exactly that … it really does make everyone more comfortable. It also ensures that the helicopter's overall weight capacity is not exceeded, which makes this a SAFETY CONCERN as well. Blue Hawaiian's policy is to charge 50% of the cost of an additional seat if they need to leave one seat vacant, which is less than some other helicotper companies that charge 100% of the cost for this additional seat.

Blue Hawaiian produces a live DVD video of your flight which is available for purchase after your flight. A five-camera system allows the pilot to edit a video "on the fly" including shots inside the cabin so your relatives back home can see your reactions during the flight. The quality of these videos is not as high as professionally shot stock videos but it makes a great souvenir.

How do I book!? and what’s the cost?

You’ll have to contact one of the helicopter companies and see their pricing. Pricing changes depending on the aircraft and the tour. Some fluctuate depending on season too. Keep in mind that most helicopter tours add on a large fuel surcharge towards the end of check out. It’s significant.

H awaii is home to some of the most sought-after tropical waters in the world. The islands of Hawaii have lush rainforests, world-class beaches, and stunning volcanoes that attract millions of visitors every year . Marked by clear turquoise waters and vibrant green mountains, these islands provide picturesque views that are unparalleled.   

Along with the many environmental attractions and attributes of Hawaii, its culture is one of the most incredible features that travelers can experience. The Aloha Spirit, which many travelers get to experience as soon as they land, is a significant aspect of Hawaiian culture derived from Polynesian heritage. The term comes from the greeting “aloha,” which means the coordination of both the mind and heart (or compassion and harmony with mankind). This spirit exists across each of the islands of Hawaii. 

Hawaii’s many different islands offer unique features and gorgeous views. Travelers can have many different types of vacations, depending on their preferred island. Since Hawaii has generally consistent weather, there is not too much to be worried about in terms of sunshine. Hawaii’s temperatures usually range from the 70s to the 80s. Surfers may want to visit between December and March, although this time period is when prices surge.

The island is beloved for its glorious coasts and unique experiences . Haleakala National Park has Maui’s highest peak, Haleakala, which is the largest dormant volcano in the world. Many visitors opt to book sunrise and sunset tours at the Haleakala National Park, which must be booked well ahead of time since they are so popular. Molokai 

Molokai is one of the four islands within Maui County and is one of the least visited of the major Hawaiian islands. The island is only 38 miles long and has a proudly undeveloped coastline. Molokai provides an off-the-beaten path and small-town feel, so large-scale tourism will not be found here. People planning to visit Molokai must be cognizant of the island’s people and resources since environmental and cultural preservation are local concerns. 

Molokai is a great place to have a relaxed and slow-going trip. Since the island is not commercially developed, there is a lot of wilderness. Enjoying the surrounding nature and the Aloha Spirit is the best way to spend time on Molokai. The most popular attractions are the Kalaupapa National Historical Park and Pāpōhaku Beach Park. Pāpōhaku Beach Park (or three mile beach) has campsites, showers, and picnic facilities. The best time to visit Molokai is during the dry season when there are moderate temperatures and less rain. Between April and June, visitors can expect temperatures between the high 70s and 80s. Generally, since Molokai has no crowds, travelers will not have trouble visiting the island throughout the year. 

Kauai is the northernmost island in the Hawaiian chain and is known as the garden island since it is covered by tropical rainforest. The island also has breathtaking cliffs on the sea and beautiful flora and fauna. This destination has plenty of natural beauty and is a tropical paradise welcoming smaller towns like Waimea.

Travelers who love adrenaline-surging activities will appreciate the expanded possibilities that a less populated island provides. Travelers of Kauai enjoy things like exciting zipline journeys through the jungle, ATV backroads tours or kayaking trips on the Wailua River.

Visiting Kauai is better during non-peak seasons even though there is not a high volume of visitors compared to trendy tourist islands. Between September and December or April to June, there are lower prices on excursions and local accommodations . 

Lanai offers a luxury and remote experience that many romantics enjoy. Lanai has a historic town named Lanai City with small restaurants and shops for travelers to explore. The city is technically more like a small village since the community is so small. This island is a popular day trip destination, allowing tourists to experience authentic island living. 

Although the island is mainly uninhabited, there is plenty for visitors to see. There are unique sites to see on Lanai, including a well-known shipwreck at Shipwreck Beach (or Kaiolohia) that travelers go to see often. The 1940s shipwreck is a testament to how Hawaii’s windy and rocky beaches can be dangerous. Even though the beach has incredible views, visitors are not advised to swim there. 

The best time to visit Lanai is between June and November since those months are the warmest and driest months. Lanai is a secluded island, so travelers do not have to be concerned with crowds and can spend their time relaxing.
