Chairlift/3.29.2016/The Gothic Theater/Englewood, Colorado

I can think of only a short list of people/bands who are as representative of the contemporary Brooklyn indie vibe I enjoy more than Caroline Polachek and Chairlift. I didn’t think much subsequent to Chairlift’s album Something could top the enjoyment I experienced from that album. Yet, the band’s new release, Moth, possibly pushes past Something as far as artistic achievement and fan accessibility. Not only does the album have some crazy good, hook-filled pop tunes, like “Romeo” and the absolutely sublime “Crying in Public,” but the record is cohesively structured and consistently provocative, even in its lighter less pop-filled moments such as the soft grinder “Unfinished Business” and the synthy ode to the band’s love affair with Japan in “Ottawa to Osaka.” Polachek has said the album title Moth suggests a metaphorical combination of fragility and tenacity that emerge conceptually through its lyrics and mood. Yet, the strength of the record and of Polachek’s songwriting in general lies in the overwhelming, even at times desperate, emotion it dares to convey while still maintaining the fun of a synth pop album. A stunning example arises from Moth’s second single, “Crying in Public.” Polachek crafts a scene of a hopeless romantic experiencing an emotional breakdown on a New York subway ride (an occurrence that NYC subway riders fear even more than realizing they just sat in something wet that probably isn’t water). Fortunately, the loveliness of the chorus is enough to make a car full of uptight, rush hour A Train passengers joyfully embrace every panhandler and breakdance team member who dare enter through the sliding doors.

In spite of its New York indie vibe, Chairlift originally formed at my current place of employment, the University of Colorado, Boulder. It was here that Polachek, as a freshman art major met Aaron Pfenning and eventually founded a project to create creepy electronic ambient music to create atmosphere for haunted houses. Later, Polachek and Pfennig moved to New York, Patrick Wimberly would join Chairlift as the drummer, the band created the tweenie pop masterpiece “Bruises” for their first album, Does You Inspire You, the tune somehow got picked up as the background music for the IPod Nano adds, and Chairlift took off.

Recording great music, however, is only one dimension of Chairlift. Over the years, Polachek and Wimberly have constructed a project that produces a complete artistic experience, from music videos that glorify fashion and style, to amazing live sets featuring Polachek’s physical grace and Wimberly’s keen musical arrangements with a huge emphasis on rhythm. Soon after the release of Something four years ago, I caught my first Chairlift set at the Webster Theater in New York and marveled not only at the show’s smooth musicality, but also Polachek’s elegant performance combining nimble dance and lovely vocals.

So it was back to Colorado, the place where it all began, for a show at the Englewood, Gothic Theatre (at one point in the show, Polachek mused, “I never would have dreamed of performing at the Gothic”). Having seen Chairlift before, I was expecting to groove out to a set of synth arrangements, however, the band has opted for a much less electronic touring ensemble that suits the live interpretation of Moth stunningly well. On the Something tour, Chairlift featured two performers on synths (Polachek played when she was not dancing around the stage), a guitarist, Wimberly on base, and a drummer. The current touring composition produces a much more intimate, sparing acoustic vibe with a guitar, Wimberly on drums this time (he occasionally played bass on numbers like “Bruises” where the band could get away with a drum machine), and a dude on saxophone who took over for Polachek on synths while she danced around the stage. Although surprising, I found the minimized electronic representation the perfect approach to capture the heart and soul of Moth by rescuing the underlying textures obscured in the studio recording’s production.

The show first and foremost was about promoting the new album, and Chairlift played it in its near entirety (leaving out only the album closer “No Such Thing as Illusion”), only deviating from the new material when reverting to a couple of the greats from past albums (“Sidewalk Safari,” “Amanaemonesia,” “I Belong in Your Arms,” and of course the tune that started it all thanks to an IPod Nano, “Bruises”). The set had some great highlights, from the interesting slowed-down arrangement of “I Belong in Your Arms,” to Polachek’s harmonious duet with opening artist Starchild for the chorus of the dreamy “Crying in Public,” to the biggest surprise of the night, Aaron Pfenning taking the stage to shake some tambourine and sing the male vocal part in “Bruises” (Pfenning sang it in the original recording). For me, the show’s most electrifying moment occurred with the live interpretation of “Unfinished Business.” The performance nicely emphasized the core nature of the tune – an atmospheric and evocative duet between Polachek’s haunting vocal and Wimberly’s snare beat.

With a run time of just slightly over sixty minutes, I left the Gothic feeling slightly disappointed as I could have listened to Polachek sing and Wimberly direct the rhythm of Chairlift’s other great tunes until well past midnight. I suppose there is always alumni week at the University of Colorado – maybe we can get Polachek to sing the national anthem as the leadoff to the Buffalos devastating homecoming loss to the University of Arizona.

It’s impossible to take your eyes off Caroline Polachek, Chairlift’s singer, during a live show. She’s strangely mesmerising - her limbs seem devoid of bones as her arms and body move fluidly to the music like some kind of mime artist (if you want to see this in action, check out the film clip for “Amanaemonesia”). It complements the ornamental arrangements to songs like “Amanaemonesia” and “I Belong In Your Arms” perfectly.

Chairlift are known for that catchy song that appeared on the Apple ad, “Bruises”, but they’re so much more than that. Their spacey-electro synthpop could be described as a cross between Cults and Glasser. Much like their songs, Caroline’s voice has incredible range and diversity - on songs like “Cool As A Fire” she moves from hitting piercing high notes, to deep and powerful tenor tones, all in the one song. And the way she handles her percussion instruments - the tambourine, maracas, castanets - would seduce many a teenage boy.

You can't ignore the other half of Chairlift, Patrick Wimberly, either. He’s a talented multi-instrumentalist (he’s even drummed for Beyonce!). On their recordings the duo play so many different instruments it’s impossible for them to go it alone live, and they’re joined by guitars, keyboards and drums.

What a shame that these guys are doing their farewell tour. The vocalist is an extremely talented singer and the songwriting is excellent as well. She emotes and performs quite well with some pretty tight one-woman choreography. Overall a very dynamic performance and her commitment to the craft is obvious. They'll be missed!

Chairlift had an interesting show, the opening act had a string quarter kinda vibe-violinist and a cello player.

They played new material and it was all very experimental and different, they talked to the audience, by no means was it a typical show.

This Secret Chairlift on Capri Will Take You to the Island's Highest Point — and the Views Are Incredible

Get ready for the most awe-inspiring views of the Amalfi Coast and Mount Vesuvius.

chairlift tour

As we sailed across the Bay of Naples from Sorrento toward Capri, the boat captain pulled me over and pointed to the highest point on the island. "That's where you're going," he said. I had been obsessed with the Monte Solaro Chair Lift, a single-seat, open-air ride to the mountaintop, ever since I learned about it from a fellow traveler. But looking up at the 1,932-foot peak from sea level, it suddenly felt daunting.

Capri has long solidified its reputation as a yacht-filled glamorous getaway, a favorite of celebrities from Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly to Kourtney Kardashian and Hugh Jackman, with its dramatic rocky coastline set against transparent blue waters. Though its most famous landmark is, no doubt, the Blue Grotto, the cave with naturally glowing blue waters, its most underrated attraction might just be the unique lift to the top of Monte Solaro.

Located in the commune of Anacapri, whose prefix implies its "above" the main city of Capri on the island of the same name, the trip to the starting point of the Monte Solaro chair lift takes a long wait for a crowded bus ride up the mountain and into a bustling Piazza Vittoria. Just off the corner of the piazza is the station at Via Caposcuro. There, visitors can grab a €9 one-way ticket (or a €12 round-trip ticket) and hop on the 13-minute ride. The chairlift operates year-round. It begins running at 9:30 a.m. and closes between 3:30 p.m. and 5 p.m., depending on the month.

The Monte Solaro chairlift first opened in 1952 as an effortless shortcut to the mountaintop — even actress Rita Hayworth once grabbed a seat. After a 1998 overhaul, the ride reopened a year later with new equipment.

Arriving on an off-peak late April afternoon, there were only a handful of people ahead of me, so there wasn't any time for hesitation as the chair operator simply pointed me to a marked spot and gestured to sit down, as he pulled a single bar down in front of me. Before I could blink, I was sailing over the town.

As I looked down at my feet dangling over the city, I thought the fear would kick in. Despite the 156 seats just hanging from the cable by a single bar, to my surprise, it oddly felt solid and secure. Within seconds, a sense of calm washed over me. As I got farther from the over-crowded city, the only sounds were the chirping birds, casting a serene soundtrack to the sights that grew more impressive as I inched closer to the top.

The gorgeous blue waters, green spring blooms, and rocky shores looked even more vibrant from this height. While some portions between the support poles were steeper than others, the ride was surprisingly meditative.

Once at the top, the operator instructed me exactly when to lift the bar, stand up, and walk off to the side. Considering I've been known to stop ski lifts with my inability to get off chairlifts, this was surprisingly smooth and simple.

Atop the mountain, an even more spectacular sight awaited. Walking around the entire perimeter on the clear day, the panoramic views featured the entire island of Capri, including its three trademark Faraglioni rock formations in the foreground, plus some of Italy's most famous sights — Naples, Mount Vesuvius, the Amalfi Coast, and Ischia island — in the distance. There is also a restaurant at the top, but during this time of year, only the bistro was open, so I grabbed a lemon Italian ice and just sat marveling at the unbelievable, postcard-worthy scenery enveloping me from every direction.

While some choose to hike one way and take the chairlift the other, the ride back down was almost more breathtaking than the upward one, as the entire gulf stretched before me during the slow descent.

As soon as my feet touched back on the ground, I was jolted back to reality, into the busy, noisy Anacapri city center, confirming how tranquil the chairlift ride truly was. The solitude of the chairlift, along with the sky-high views the ride offers, is a truly special way to experience the magic of Capri.

The charming Assmannshausen chairlift not only has a unique name but also provides a more intimate experience of the Rhine Gorge wine village. Many people tend to limit their exploration to Rüdesheim , and miss out on the full experience of the Rhine River Valley.

If you have the time, I highly recommend immersing yourself in this UNESCO world heritage site and discovering the villages that will transport you back in time, with some amazing food to enjoy.

🚠 Don’t miss out on this opportunity to see the beauty of Rhine River and the steep vineyards, it’s definitely one of coolest things to do in Assmannshausen !

Who is this good for?

  • Nature lovers with bad knees
  • Wine and Culture lovers
  • Families with kids
  • People staying at the Jagdschloss Niederwald Hotel

I keep returning to this area because the German Rheinsteig offers one of the most delightful, fascinating, and scenic long-distance hikes with castle hotels where you can stay and feel like royalty amidst nature’s beauty.

Watch My Video of Hiking on the Rhine

Pro Tip: The hikes around Assmannshausen on the Rheinsteig often include little wooden huts with wine automats.  Yes, wine vending machines that are trailside in the middle of the forest.

Skip the hike – enjoy the ride!

(Well, i’ll always promote a hike , they are awesome, but choices are good and that’s why I love these vineyard chairlifts so everyone can enjoy the magical German forests!)

Romantic Tour

The romantic tour takes you through the UNESCO World Heritage Upper Middle Rhine Valley and gives you an unforgettable experience.

Highlights of the tour include the boat trip on the Rössler line, a visit to Rheinstein Castle and trips on the two cable cars. Allow enough time for this tour.

Here are some details on the location of the chairlift:

Top Station : Mountain Station

Ideal for people with mobility impairments as it’s fully accessible. For those driving to the top station of chairlift , I found out that there’s a parking lot immediately near to mountain station. The ticket office is a 2 minute walk from the parking lot.

Bottom Station

The Assmannshausen chairlift starts at the valley station in town, which is located not far from the train line. There is parking available at the top station or at one of the many parkplatzes in town.

Chairlift Address: Niederwaldstraße 34, 65385 Rüdesheim am Rhein

Parking Facilities

The parking lots here are open lots and coin paid.

Assmannshausen is served by the DB Bahn and the main (only) station is right in the center of town and about a 6 minute walk to the Assmannshausen chairlift bottom station.

Name of the train Station: Rüdesheim (Rhein)-Assmannshausen Bahnhof

Trains are connected to Frankfurt, Mannheim, Trier, Koblenz and Luxembourg.

When you book your transport online, I personally recommend and always use OMIO . They search for trains, buses, flights and ferries, so you get the easiest way to your destination!

There are stunning 2 lane roads along the Rhine that are worth a drive in all seasons.  What I really want to do is rent a convertible Porsche and zoom through this lowland mountain range and fairytale castle land.

🚗 Car Rental: I always use Discover cars because they search for local and international options so you get the best deal.

By Flight: Frankfurt Hahn is the closest airport, only 65 minutes away. There are also 3 easy airports close to Rudesheim that take about 1.5 hours to drive to get there. The first is Frankfurt International Airport.  The second is Luxemburg International Airport.  And finally, Cologne-Bonn International Airport is also an easy drive.

You can easily walk from one of the many Rhine River cruises (such as KD) to the bottom station to ride the gondola. This is one of the best experiences in the area. It’s fun to hike a little, take a gondola and finish up with a boat cruise on a perfect spring day.

Assmannshausen chairlift

People of different mobility levels can get ALL the views and experience the heights of Rüdesheim, the Neiderwald and Assmannshausen.

  • After reaching the top of the Rhine gorge via the Rüdesheim cable car, you’ll walk or roll along a flat path with many historical stops marked with placards in German and English.  The path makes its way to the Jagdschloss Hotel (hunters palace hotel).
  • For people using wheelchairs it’s not advised to take the Assmannshausen chairlift, but return the same way back and take the gondola back to Rüdesheim.
  • If you want to continue to the next village of Assmannshausen that is known for it’s red wine, there is a chair lift down to the village but it is not wheelchair accessible.
  • It descends into the much less busy village of Assmannshausen or you can simply walk 20-30 min downhill, going past an enclosure with very cute deer.  There is a vending machine to purchase feed pellets that you can try to hand feed the deer through the fence.
  • From the riverside in Assmannshausen you can either take the train back to Rüdesheim or the KD boat on the river.

If you’re visiting the Assmannshausen, I highly recommend checking out some of the nearby attractions! Since I love exploring, let me walk you through my personal favorites:

Niederwald Monument

rudesheim

The first place I’d say you should visit is the Niederwald Monument. This impressive monument, with its majestic statue, can be reached easily by taking the gondola and is surrounded by beautiful woodland trails. I found the views here fantastic and the history fascinating—definitely not something to miss!

Drosselgasse in Rüdesheim

After taking in the views at the Niederwald Monument, my next favorite spot was the charming Drosselgasse. This quaint cobbled street in the heart of the old town is lined with timber-framed buildings and is home to some of the best entertainment and dining options I experienced in Rüdesheim. From live music in the taverns to trying the local cuisine, it was a real treat for my senses!

Here’s some great hotels nearby if you want to make a weekend out of it.

Best Historical Hotel

rüdesheim germany

For a hotel with a touch of history and right in the middle of the forest, I have my eyes on the Jagdschloss Niederwald Hotel . This charming establishment is just 0.2 mi from the chairlift’s top station. Location, location, location!

Best Riverside Hotel

When I want a more modern experience, the Hotel Under the Linden seems like the perfect choice. At only 0.5 mi from the chairlift, I can almost reach out and touch those vines from my hotel window.

Best Overall Hotel – On the Vineyard!!!

For those times when I want a more intimate and homely feel, I found this gem – Alte Bauernshanke Wellness and Wine . It’s a mere 0.04 mi away, making it difficult to beat when it comes to convenience.

All in all, there’s no shortage of great lodging options right near the chair lift, making it an easy trip back after a day of adventures. Sweet dreams!

Wallen, 30, faces three reckless endangerment charges and one disorderly conduct charge following an incident at country artist Eric Church's six-story restaurant bar, Chief's, in downtown Nashville, the Metro Nashville Police Department said. Police said in a social media post that Wallen tossed a chair from the top floor of Chief's and it landed on Broadway – close to two officers.

His lawyer, Worrick Robinson, confirmed the arrest and told CBS News in a statement that the singer is cooperating with authorities.

Wallen's bond was set at $15,250. He's scheduled to appear in court on May 3. His arrest comes as he kicked off his One Night At A Time Tour on Friday at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. He will be in Nashville for his concert dates on May 2 through May 4.

On Sunday, his fellow country music colleagues celebrated wins at the  Country Music Television Awards  in Austin, Texas. Wallen's music video for "Last Night" was nominated for best male video of the year, but he lost to  Jelly Roll, whose "Need a Favor" video  won it instead.

Morgan Wallen has been arrested after police say he threw a chair off of the roof of a 6-story bar

Police say country music singer Morgan Wallen has been arrested after police say he threw a chair off the rooftop of a newly opened six-story bar in downtown Nashville

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Country music singer Morgan Wallen has been arrested after police say he threw a chair off the rooftop of a newly opened six-story bar in downtown Nashville.

Wallen, 30, was booked into jail early Monday on three felony counts of reckless endangerment and one misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct, Metro Nashville Police tweeted.

The charges stem from a chair being thrown from the rooftop of Chief’s bar and landing on Broadway near two police officers.

An arrest affidavit says the chair landed about 3 feet (1 meter) from officers, who talked to witnesses and reviewed security footage. Witnesses told officers that they watched Wallen pick up a chair, throw it over the roof and laugh about it.

Wallen's attorney, Worrick Robinson, confirmed the arrest late Sunday and said the singer was cooperating fully with authorities. He was released from custody, and has a court date scheduled May 3.

Wallen is one of the biggest names in contemporary country. His third studio album, 2023’s “One Thing at a Time,” was the most-consumed album in the U.S. last year. It spent 16 weeks at the top of the Billboard 200 in 2023 — which meant he held the top spot for 30% of the year, more time at No. 1 than any other album since Adele’s “21” dominated over a decade ago. It included several top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100: “Last Night,” “You Proof,” “Thinkin’ Bout Me," “Thought You Should Know," and “Don't Think Jesus.”

In 2021, the country singer was suspended indefinitely from his label and saw his music pulled by radio stations and streaming services after video surfaced of him shouting a racial slur. As a result, he was disqualified or limited from several award shows and received no Grammy nominations for his bestselling “Dangerous: The Double Album.”

In 2020, he was arrested on public intoxication and disorderly conduct charges after being kicked out of Kid Rock’s bar in downtown Nashville.

At the time, Wallen posted on social media that he and some friends were “horse-playing” after a few bar stops.

“We didn’t mean any harm, and we want to say sorry to any bar staff or anyone that was affected,” Wallen posted on X. “Thank you to the local authorities for being so professional and doing their job with class. Love y’all.”

Wallen is currently on his 2024 One Night at a Time tour. His court date for the incident is May 3, amid scheduled performances at Nashville’s Nissan Stadium on May 2 and 3.

Local news station WSMV-TV reported that Wallen’s arrest came after he allegedly threw a chair from the top of Chief’s Bar, which is owned by fellow country music star Eric Church and was celebrating its opening weekend.

Citing the arrest affidavit, the outlet reported that Wallen was six stories up on the roof of the bar, around 10:45 p.m. on Sunday, when witnesses watched him pick up a chair, throw it over the roof and laugh about it. The chair landed three feet from two officers with the Metro Nashville Police Department.

He charged with three counts of felony reckless endangerment and one count of disorderly conduct, which is a misdemeanor, according to the affidavit.

Wallen has made his return to the music scene following the February 2021 video in which he was heard yelling the N-word and other expletives. Wallen checked himself into a rehab facility after the incident and said he had been on “hour 72 of a 72-hour bender.” The singer’s recording contract with Big Loud Records was  suspended indefinitely at the time, among other career fallout.

He later returned to the 2022 Billboard Music Awards with a performance, following being banned and made no mention of the incident . He went on to win the award for top country male artist.

Following his return, Wallen has received several major awards show nominations. His sold-out tour, meanwhile, is one of the most anticipated of 2024.

Country star Morgan Wallen arrested after throwing chair off rooftop for 'no legitimate purpose,' police say

Country music singer Morgan Wallen was arrested overnight in Nashville on felony charges after he allegedly threw a chair from a downtown rooftop for "no legitimate purpose," police said.

Wallen , 30, was booked into jail early Monday morning on three counts of reckless endangerment and one count of disorderly conduct in connection to the late Sunday night incident, the Metro Nashville Police Department reported.

According to an arrest affidavit obtained by USA TODAY, at 10:53 p.m. local time, two police officers were standing in front of Chief's Bar in the city's entertainment district on Lower Broadway when they saw a chair fall from above and hit the street about three feet from them.

In the affidavit, police wrote, the bar's staff members told officers Wallen threw the chair, and when officers reviewed video footage of incident, it showed him "lunging and throwing an object off the roof."

Chief's Bar, owned by country music singer, Eric Church, is a six-story building .

Witnesses told police they stood next to the country singer and watched him “pick up the chair, throw it over him, laughing afterward,” the affidavit continues.

Police wrote they arrested Wallen on reckless endangerment charges because two officers were in the area and the incident posed a danger to public.

The affidavit goes onto say officers arrested him for disorderly conduct because "he created a hazardous condition by an act that served no legitimate purpose."

Where is Morgan Wallen from?

Morgan was born in Sneedville, a small city in Hancock County, Tennessee, roughly 70 miles northeast of Knoxville.

In February, the singer announced he plans to open a six-story bar along Lower Broadway called "This Bar." The title comes from Wallen's 2019 song where he sings, "I found myself in this bar / Making mistakes and making new friends."

Wallen’s most recent album “One Thing at a Time”  peaked at No. 1  on the Billboard 200 chart and produced the Hot 100 No. 1 hit “Last Night.”

The arrest is not the first time Wallen has drawn scrutiny for his actions in public.

In February of 2021, Wallen apologized after a  video surfaced of him shouting a racial slur  in Nashville that prompted swift backlash from the music industry.

In a video posted to YouTube, Wallen described what is depicted in the video as "hour 72 of 72 of a bender."

"Obviously, the natural thing to do is to apologize further and just continue to apologize but because you got caught and that's not what I wanted to do," the singer said in the video. "I let so many people down. And [people] who mean a lot to me and give so much to me. And that's just not fair."

Wallen was released around 3:30 a.m. Monday on $15,250 bond. He is due in court on May 3, a date that coincides with one of three planned concert dates at Nashville's Nissan Stadium . The singer is scheduled to perform there May 2-4.

No statement has been issued yet about the April 20, 2024, make-up date for his canceled 2023 appearance at Oxford, Mississippi's Vaught-Hemingway Stadium or if his headlining appearance at the Stagecoach Festival on April 28 will be canceled in light of his recent arrest.

Last year, Wallen said he needed vocal rest on April 24, 2023 and canceled that show. It was only 11 dates into his seven-month global tour. He refunded the cost of the tickets.

"I am so sorry, I promise you guys I tried everything I could," he said at the time.

Morgan Wallen's history with Lower Broadway

Wallen has a history of run-ins with the law on Lower Broadway.

On May 24, 2020 , Wallen was arrested for public intoxication and disorderly conduct outside of Kid Rock's honky-tonk in downtown Nashville.

In the arrest warrant, the Metro Nashville Police Department said Wallen got kicked out of Kid Rock's Big Ass Honky Tonk Rock N' Roll Steakhouse at about 11 p.m. for "kicking glass items." On the street, police said he verbally fought with passersby while officers watched.

"Officers gave (Wallen) several opportunities to walk away with his friends, but he refused to walk away," Metro said at the time, noting that he was "a danger to himself and the public."

Wallen recently announced that he will open a Nashville bar called 'This Bar' in 2024 to pay homage to his Tennessee roots. The six-story establishment will be located at 107 4th Avenue North on Lower Broadway and is planned as a live music venue and restaurant.

The bar's title comes from Wallen's 2019 song of the same name, where he sings, "I found myself in this bar / Making mistakes and making new friends."

In a press release announcing the opening, Wallen said, “I sing about finding myself in 'This Bar,' and now it's coming to life. This venue will hold true to everything I love and is inspired by my fans and the way they have embraced me and my music."

Morgan Wallen's 2024 at-present

Sunday saw Wallen not attending CMT's 2024 Music Awards in Austin, Texas .

In response to a 2021 controversy surrounding him being recorded while drunkenly using a racial slur in front of his home, CMT had removed Wallen's music from all of their platforms. The ban has remained in effect for three years.

"We do not tolerate or condone words and actions that are in direct opposition to our core values that celebrate diversity, equity & inclusion," CMT representatives said via social media.

Wallen was at Chief's after returning to Nashville from a headlining domestic kick-off for his nationwide "One Night at a Time" tour at Indianapolis' Lucas Oil Stadium on April 4 and 5. Attendance for both of those dates set the venue's attendance record.

Church and Wallen's business interests

Chief's opened on April 5 with the first night of the venue's Country Music Association Entertainer of the Year namesake's "To Beat The Devil" residency. The event was held in the intimate, 400-person Neon Steeple venue.

Church's venue was announced in early 2022, with AJ Capital leading the renovation.

AJ Capital has become a leading real estate developer in Music City during the past decade.

Collaborations with Church for Chief's and Wallen, via his Morgan Wallen Foundation and donors, including Church (via the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee and the Chief Cares Fund) to work on the renovation of North Nashville's historic Club Baron venue are two ways in which they have recently engaged with Nashville's music community.

Also, Church and Wallen recently announced a partnership to acquire and relaunch the 152-year-old Field & Stream outdoor lifestyle brand.

Among the pair's forthcoming Field & Stream-branded concepts are a limited-edition apparel collection and the announcement of an outdoor fall "Field & Stream Music Festival" co-produced by Southern Entertainment.

Morgan Wallen Arrested, Accused of Throwing a Chair From a Bar Roof

The country superstar faces charges of reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct after the incident in Nashville on Sunday night.

The country singer Morgan Wallen was arrested early Monday in Nashville on charges of reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct, after he was accused of throwing a chair from the roof of a downtown bar, according to reports.

Mr. Wallen, 30, a superstar who had last year’s most popular album, and who had just opened his latest tour with two shows at a stadium in Indianapolis, was arrested and booked by police in Nashville, according to court records.

WTVF , a CBS television affiliate in Nashville, reported that Mr. Wallen is accused of throwing a chair from the sixth story of Chief’s, an establishment on lower Broadway — an area of the city full of honky-tonks and concert venues — that had just been opened by another country star, Eric Church. The chair hit the ground near where some police officers were standing, and staff members at the restaurant told officers that Mr. Wallen had been responsible, the station reported, citing the police.

Mr. Wallen was arrested on three counts of reckless endangerment, a felony; and one count of disorderly conduct, a misdemeanor. He was released early Monday and has a court date set for May 3.

In a statement, Worrick Robinson, a lawyer for Mr. Wallen, said: “Morgan Wallen was arrested in downtown Nashville for reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct. He is cooperating fully with authorities.”

In 2021, Mr. Wallen, then a rising star, was rebuked by the music industry , and his contract was temporarily “suspended” by his record label, after a video clip surfaced showing the singer casually using a racial slur among friends.

Mr. Wallen apologized for that incident and his career recovered with little apparent effect. “Dangerous: The Double Album,” which had just come out, was a smash hit that remained high on the charts for well over a year , and his latest, “One Thing at a Time,” was another blockbuster, logging a total of 19 weeks at No. 1 .

Morgan Wallen was arrested and jailed on Sunday night (April 7) in Nashville after the chart-topping country singer allegedly hurled a chair off the six-story roof of a popular bar on the city’s bustling Broadway street.

According to WSMV , an arrest warrant revealed that Wallen was on the sixth story roof of Eric Church’s Chief’s Bar on Sunday night around 10:45 p.m. when witnesses said he picked up a chair and threw it over the roof. Two Metro Nashville Police Department officers were reportedly standing below on Broadway when the affidavit said the chair landed just three feet from them. Officers reportedly spoke with bar staff and witnesses and reviewed security footage to confirm Wallen’s alleged action. The incident took place during the opening weekend of Church’s bar.

According to WKRN , witnesses reportedly told officers that they were standing next to Wallen and saw him “pick up the chair, throw it over him, laughing afterward.”

Wallen was arrested and booked just after midnight and charged with three felony counts of reckless endangerment and one misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct, posting a $15,250 bond to secure his release around 3:30 a.m. The incident came just days after Wallen kicked off his 2024 One Night at a Time tour. The singer’s next court date in the incident is May 3rd; he is slated to play Nashville’s Nissan Stadium on May 2nd and 3rd.

Church had no comment, according to his representative.
