Priority PassPremium travel rewards cards come with luxury travel benefits that make travel more convenient and more comfortable — ideally, with complimentary benefits the traveler would normally be paying for.

The Citi Prestige ® Card stands out among rewards cards due to a few unique features that could elevate it on your list of cards to consider.

You’ll find a broad range of bonus earning categories, special lounge access that favors large families, and an easy way to score free hotel nights.

But these benefits are not all that make the Citi Prestige a potential match for the frequent traveler. We’ve dug deep into the fine print of the Citi Prestige benefits guide and uncovered the most important aspects of this card.

We’ll illustrate how the Citi Prestige combines up-front value with ongoing earning potential, and help you determine if it’s a card you’ll keep for the long term.

Hot Tip:  At this time, the Citi Prestige card is no longer available for new applicants.

Lots of Ways to Earn ThankYou Rewards Points

The Citi Prestige shines when it comes to earning valuable ThankYou points . You’ll find that most of the travel purchases you make fall into a ThankYou points bonus earning category.

When you’re approved for a Citi Prestige Card, you’ll be offered a welcome bonus worth hundreds of dollars when redeemed for travel. The bonus is earned after completing a minimum spending requirement in the first 3 months after card approval.

Earn 5 points per dollar spent directly with airlines.

Purchases made through travel agencies earn 5 points per dollar spent.

Purchases made at restaurants, cafes, bars, and even fast food establishments earn 5 points per dollar spent.

Earn 3 points per dollar spent on hotel purchases.

Purchases made with cruise lines earn 3 points per dollar spent.

Every purchase you make on your Citi Prestige Card will earn at least 1 point per dollar spent.

Many travel rewards credit cards have limits on earnings. But there is no limit on the number of ThankYou points you can earn with the Citi Prestige, even in bonus categories.

Bottom Line: The Citi Prestige offers frequent travelers a broad range of bonus earning categories that will make it easy to earn a lot of ThankYou points.

Priority Pass Lounge - The Club at San Jose, CA

Access to Over 1,400 Airport Lounges Worldwide

The Citi Prestige card comes with a complimentary Priority Pass Select Membership . Cardholders can enjoy access to the Priority Pass worldwide lounge network , which has over 1,400 lounges, affiliated restaurants, and Minute Suite locations.

Affiliated Priority Pass restaurants offer up to $30 per person in credits when dining at these locations. Minute Suites offer Priority Pass Select members a free hour of service and discounted rates after that.

Cardholders can bring their entire immediate family into lounge properties , or they can bring 2 guests.

Hot Tip: There are several credit cards with Priority Pass lounge access, the Citi Prestige is certainly not the only one. However, the Prestige is the only card that earns Citi ThankYou points which offers this perk.

Authorized users added to your Citi Prestige Card also receive complimentary Priority Pass Select membership, which includes the ability to bring immediate family or 2 guests.

The fee to add an authorized user is $75 annually.

Bottom Line: Having a credit card with airport lounge access can be a huge perk of the Citi Prestige if you travel frequently with more than 2 additional family members.

Hotel and Car Rental Benefits

Book any eligible hotel through thankyou.com or by calling 1-800-THANKYOU, and you’ll receive a credit for the average of the nightly rate when booking 4 consecutive nights or more. For example, if you booked 4 hotel nights at an average room rate of $200 per night (excluding taxes/fees), you would receive a $200 credit at the time of booking.

To receive the benefit you can no longer book through the Citi Prestige Concierge. You must book through the ThankYou portal.

You can use the 4th-night-free benefit twice per year.

Receive free spa sessions, upgraded rooms, hotel credits, late checkout, complimentary breakfast, and more at over 2,000 luxury properties worldwide. This benefit is provided via World Elite Mastercard.

Citi Prestige cardholders enjoy elite-level benefits with 3 major car rental programs, as well as complimentary World Elite Mastercard Car Rental membership.

  • Elite status with Hertz , Sixt , and National Car Rental programs
  • Complimentary World Elite Mastercard Car Rental membership

Redeeming Your ThankYou Point Rewards

Receive the highest potential value for your ThankYou rewards points by transferring them to any of their airline partner frequent flyer programs. Points transfer at a ratio of 1 ThankYou point to 1 airline mile.

Hot Tip: For ideas on how to maximize your ThankYou points when transferring to airline partners, check out our list of creative redemption options .

ThankYou points can be redeemed for a variety of travel options via the ThankYou travel portal . You can book flights, hotels, cruises, rental cars, sightseeing excursions, and even experiences.

You’ll receive 1 cent per point in value on airfare when redeeming via the portal for travel.

Another option for using your ThankYou points is to transfer them to Sears Shop Your Way points. You’ll receive 12 Shop Your Way points for each ThankYou point — that translates into 1.2 cents per point to use at Sears and the Sears Marketplace (where you can find just about anything).

Your ThankYou points can be used to make a charitable donation to the Red Cross or Smile Train. Points transfer at a rate of 1:1, so you’ll receive 1 cent in value for each point.

Redeeming ThankYou points for gift cards can occasionally result in a value of more than 1 cent per point when there are special deals.

While you’ll receive less value for your points when redeeming for cash-back or shopping, you have the option if you’re in a pinch. Expect to receive as little as a half-cent per point when using this redemption option .

You can also link your card to your Amazon or Best Buy  account and use points for purchases — but once again, you will only be getting a half-cent per point in value (which we don’t advise).

Bottom Line: The best value for your ThankYou points is to transfer them to airline travel partners and purchase award tickets. In some cases, you can receive a value of 5-6 cents per point! Be sure to check the cost of a ticket before you transfer points, as transfers are not reversible.

Amtrak Train Lounge

Travel and Shopping Statement Credits

Use your Citi Prestige to purchase travel and receive a statement credit up to $250 each calendar year. Travel purchases include transactions with airlines, hotels, cruises, and much more.

Receive up to $100 when paying for your Global Entry application or renewal with your Citi Prestige, or $78 when purchasing or renewing TSA PreCheck . The credit is valid once every 5 years.

Recreation and Entertainment Benefits

Receive 24/7 assistance with all your travel planning needs, including dinner reservations, finding the perfect lodging, and planning destination activities.

Enjoy special access to dining events, discounts, and complimentary drinks/appetizers through Citi Dining. Contact your Citi Concierge for a list of participating restaurants and access event offerings by logging into your account.

Citi Tickets

Citi Prestige cardholders can enjoy special access to sporting events, concerts, theater performances, and dining events. Receive advance ticket access, VIP seating, special amenities, and more.

World Elite Mastercard Benefits

Some of the benefits we’re mentioning in this article are actually World Elite Mastercard benefits that apply to several different affiliated cards. The list of World Elite Mastercard benefits is lengthy, but here is a sampling of additional benefits offered to cardholders.

Enjoy discounts on premium fares, such as 15% off Lufthansa and 10% off Air New Zealand.

Receive discounts on Monogram vacations, Swiss Luxury Apartments, and more.

Enjoy amenities and members-only privileges at over 1,000 golf courses worldwide. Receive discounts, use of private club facilities, and access to priority tee times.

Bottom Line: World Elite Mastercard benefits tend to lean more toward luxury-level perks, but taking time to explore these added benefits can yield special deals and unique experiences.

Alamo Rental Car

Travel Protection and Benefits

The Citi Prestige Card can travel with you everywhere, as you’ll never incur any  foreign transaction fees  on your purchases.

Hot Tip: Do you rent cars often for business and/or leisure? If so, see our article on the best credit cards for car rental insurance  for more options.

Cell Phone Protection

Shopping Protections and Benefits

Charge your monthly wireless bill to your Citi Prestige Card and receive coverage for damage or theft of your cell phone .

Coverage is limited to $1,000 per claim and $1,500 per 12-month period. There is a $50 deductible per claim.

Pay for an eligible item with ThankYou points and/or your Citi Prestige Card to receive coverage for damage or theft for up to 90 days from the date of purchase.

The maximum coverage is $10,000 per item and $50,000 per calendar year.

On eligible items purchased with the Citi Prestige, Citi will extend the manufacturer’s warranty by 24 months. This coverage is valid on items with warranties of 5 years or less.

Bottom Line: There are few shopping benefits and protections on the Citi Prestige, but the cell phone insurance could be a very valuable benefit if you’re currently paying monthly for this coverage.

If you travel with more than 2 family members, the value of complimentary worldwide lounge access for your entire immediate family when traveling is reason alone to secure the Citi Prestige Card.

The card’s broad range of bonus earning categories also makes it easy to collect points quickly from travel and dining purchases . Additionally, the $250 travel statement credit will be exceptionally easy for the traveler to use quickly, as the definition of a “travel” purchase is quite broad.

Finally, flexible redemption options and cell phone protection add value for the right cardholder.

The higher annual fee could certainly be a downside to having this card. But if you’ll use the strong earning and redemption benefits on the card and have core travel-related benefits elsewhere, you could find enough value to make the card worthwhile.

The information for the Citi Prestige ® Card has been collected independently by Upgraded Points and not provided nor reviewed by the issuer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the citi prestige card worth it.

The Citi Prestige has a few unique features that make it worth the annual fee.

Worldwide lounge access is one of the most valuable benefits. A family of 4 or more can incur costs of up to $1,000 (or more) for an annual family airport lounge membership.

Or they could spend several hundred dollars a year for an extra daily guest pass each time they travel together.

Since the card allows the entire immediate family to enter Priority Pass lounges, this benefit can be valuable to a family who travels together even just a few times per year.

The $250 travel credit is easy to use as it is valid for a broad range of travel purchases.

The 4th-night-free hotel credit can also generate hundreds of dollars a year in savings.

Do ThankYou points expire?

As long as you have your card open and active, the ThankYou points earned on your Citi Prestige will not expire.

Should you close your account, ThankYou points do expire after 30 days.

How does the 4th hotel night free work?

Just book your hotel for 4 consecutive nights or more via the Citi ThankYou travel portal or calling the 1-800ThankYou booking line.

You will automatically receive a credit in the amount of the average room rate (minus taxes and fees).

For example, if you book 4 nights with an average room rate of $250, you will receive a credit at the time of booking for that amount. There is no set limit on the amount of the credit.

You can also use the benefit an unlimited amount of times prior to September 1, 2019. After that, you will be limited to using the benefit just 2 times per year.

The 4th-night-free benefit still offers the potential to save hundreds of dollars each year, even with just 2 uses.

One downside of the 4th-night-free benefit is that you are booking through a third party (thankyou.com), so you may be forfeiting any hotel loyalty program elite benefits.

How does the $250 travel credit work?

The $250 travel statement credit is easy to use. Just make a travel purchase, and your statement will automatically be credited with the amount of the purchase, up to $250 per calendar year.

“Travel” includes purchases with airlines, hotels, car rental agencies, travel agencies, transportation, cruise lines, bus tickets, parking, and more.

Through 2022, you can also use your travel credit for purchases towards groceries and restaurants.

This card has no foreign transaction fee, but it does come with a $495 annual fee .

Our review of the Citi Prestige Card is a must-read if you need a little help deciding whether you should cough up the cash for this card.

Exceptional Travel Perks Come with a Price Tag

The Citi Prestige Card is a premium travel rewards card. We’ll get to how you can earn points in a moment.

First, we wanted to highlight all of the various travel benefits that make this card a true standout.

Annual Travel Credit

Right off the bat, you get a $250 travel credit per year . This credit will cover the cost of travel-related purchases, including airfare, baggage fees, seating class upgrades, in-flight purchases, hotels, car rentals, parking, ground transportation and more.

You use the card to pay for it as you normally would and the credit will be applied automatically to eligible travel purchases.

You will still earn rewards on this travel spending.

Tip: If you have trouble taking full advantage of this credit, you can buy gift cards through the airline . Save it and use it for later as you wish.

Complimentary 4th Night Stay

If hotel stays are a regular part of your travel routine, the Citi Prestige Card can make hotel bill less expensive.

When you book a stay of four nights or more through the Citi Prestige Concierge, your fourth night is instantly free.

The complimentary night is available at your choice of hotels so you can go low-key with a budget room or live it up in a luxury suite.

How it works is you'll receive a statement credit for the 4th night .

There is an annual limit on this perk. You can redeem this perk only twice per calendar year.

Global Entry Application Fee Credit

Global Entry membership can save you time at the airport if you’re traveling back to the U.S. from an international destination.

To apply, you’ll need to pay a $100 application fee but you can recoup that with your Citi Prestige Card.

If you use your card to pay the fee, Citi will issue you a $100 statement credit against the cost.

At airports, members just have to show their passports, scan their fingerprints, and turn in their customs declaration.

Complimentary Airport Lounge Access

When you’re stuck in the airport waiting to catch a flight, being able to relax in the lounge can make passing the time easier.

Priority Pass Select membership is included with your card , which means you can visit more than 900 VIP lounges around the world.

Lounge access is free for you and up to two guests. For each additional guest, there’s a $27 fee that’s charged on every lounge visit.

Citi Concierge Service

The Citi Prestige Concierge service can make your life a little easier if you need help making travel arrangements or you just need to find a great restaurant for dinner .

Concierge specialists are standing by 24/7 to answer your questions and guide you to where you want to go.

Discounts on Travel

When you’d rather cruise than fly or you’re looking to book an all-inclusive vacation, you don’t have to pay full price.

The Citi Prestige Card offers exclusive discounts on luxury tours, vacation packages, ocean cruises, and river cruises.

Earn Rewards On Every Purchase

As if the travel extras weren’t enough, the Citi Prestige Card comes with a generous rewards program.

You’ll earn:

  • 5 ThankYou points per dollar on air travel and restaurants
  • 3 ThankYou points per dollar on hotels and cruise lines
  • 2 ThankYou points per dollar on entertainment (to be removed 8/31/19)
  • 1 ThankYou point per dollar on all other purchases

Your points aren’t capped and they don’t expire as long as your account is open and in good standing.

To top if off, this card has a sizable points bonus that’s available to new card members who meet the minimum spending requirement.

Redeeming ThankYou points

When you’re ready to use all those ThankYou points you’ve earned, you’ve got plenty of choices, including:

  • Gift cards to partner brands
  • Electronics, jewelry, apparel, and other merchandise
  • Statement credits
  • Online bill pay
  • Charitable donations

The number of points you’ll need and the value of those points will depend on what you’re redeeming them for. For instance, a $25 Barnes and Noble gift card requires 2,500 points. In that case, one point is worth $0.01.

A 50-inch TCL Roku TV retailing for $399.99, on the other hand, would take 49,990 points.

If you do the math, your points would then be worth one-eighth of a cent. It’s important to understand how the value compares so you can be sure you’re getting your money’s worth.

Shop or Pay with Points

If you’d rather buy merchandise directly from the merchant, you can shop or pay with points at selected Citi partners. Shop With Points is available at Amazon.com, Expedia, and Live Nation.

You can use Pay With Points at BestBuy.com or through the Wonder app. Again, the redemption value may vary.

Use Points for Travel

Frequent travelers will appreciate the ability to use their points towards flights, hotel stays, and other travel expenses. You’ve got several great ways to redeem points for travel .

First, you can use them to book your trip through the Citi ThankYou Travel Center. There are no blackout dates or restrictions and you can book flights, vacation packages, car rentals, or hotel rooms.

Best of all, when you book through the travel center, your points are worth 33% more. That means 40,000 points would be worth $532 in credit towards a flight.

If you prefer a particular airline or hotel brand, you also have the option of transferring your points directly to their loyalty program.

Citi partners with the Asia Miles, Flying Blue, Qantas, and Virgin Atlantic, just to name a few.

Your ThankYou points typically transfer on a 1:1 basis, with some exceptions.

There’s no fee to transfer points but there’s one big difference compared to booking with points through the Travel Center.

You may be subject to blackout dates or other restrictions set by the loyalty program you’re transferring your points to. That’s something you’d want to factor in when making your travel plans.

Is the Annual Fee Worth It?

As far as annual fees go, the Citi Prestige Card is on the pricey side. But it's important to consider how the fee measures up against the value of what you’re getting .

Between the free 4th nights, $100 credit for Global Entry, the $250 annual Air Travel Credit, free Priority Pass membership, and the money you can save when you redeem points for travel, you could easily earn back the fee and then some.

If you were to charge just $5,000 a year on travel purchases and get the $250 travel credit, that alone could make up for the fee.

If you’re still on the fence, take a look at your travel habits. If you only take trips once or twice a year, paying nearly $500 for benefits you may not use doesn’t make sense.

On the other hand, if you’re traveling several times a year, that may be money well spent to travel in comfort.

Shop and Travel Safely With Citi’s Security Protections

Your Citi Prestige Card protects you in more ways than one, whether you’re jetting around the globe or just hitting the mall.

The card’s security measures include an EMV chip, Citi Identity Theft Solutions, and the Early Fraud Warning System, which monitors your account for suspicious activity.

When you’re shopping online or in-store, you’re also covered by:

  • Damage and theft purchase protection
  • Extended warranty protection
  • $0 liability guarantee

These perks can add to your peace of mind every time you use your card.

Should You Choose a Different Citi Card?

The Citi Prestige Card might be looking pretty appealing by now but we’re not through yet. Here are other Citi cards you may want to consider instead.

Citi Rewards+

The is a rewards credit card that offers many ways to earn and maximize rewards points.

Cardmembers earn 2x points at supermarkets and gas stations for the first $6,000 per year and 1x points thereafter.

Most interestingly, every purchase earns points rounded up to the nearest 10 points.

Read Citi Rewards+ Card Editor's Review

Citi Double Cash Card

The is aimed at spenders who’d rather earn cash back in lieu of travel rewards.

This card makes it easy to rack up the cash by paying 1% cash back when you make purchases and 1% back when you make a payment . No muss, no fuss, and no annual fee.

Read Citi Double Cash Card Editor's Review

Citi Premier Card

With the Citi Premier Card, you can earn 3 points per dollar on travel including gas, along with double points on dining out and entertainment. All other purchases will earn you one point per dollar.

This card does have an annual fee of $95 , which applies after the first year.

Final Verdict: Should You Get This Card?

The Citi Prestige Card is a real head-turner if you travel often and you like to do so in style.

The $495 annual fee makes it a less attractive choice for someone who’s more frugal about their travel budget or just doesn’t travel that often.

All in all, it’s best for someone who travels often enough to use all the perks available through the card.

Detailed review: Citi Prestige® Card

» this card is no longer available.

The Citi Prestige® Card is no longer accepting applications. See our best travel credit cards and best premium credit cards for other options. Below is our review from when the card was still available.

As of summer 2021, the $495 -annual-fee Citi Prestige® Card was phasing out the acceptance of new applications .

But existing cardholders still get a lot in return for that pricey annual fee.

The card offers generous bonus rewards in major travel categories and several perks, including an annual $250 travel credit, a fourth-night-free benefit on hotel stays, a Global Entry or TSA Precheck credit of up to $100 every five years, airport lounge access via a Priority Pass Select membership, and multiple airline transfer partners, which could let you wring even more value out of your earnings.

If you're able to maximize that fourth-night-free benefit, and you do a lot of spending on airfare and via travel agencies, the Citi Prestige® Card will fit your travel needs like a glove.

But other players in the premium travel card field offer more extensive lounge access, fancier travel benefits and more domestic airline transfer partners. And you may find those perks are ultimately worth more to you. For current offers, check out NerdWallet's list of best credit cards to have .

If you're spending a bundle on travel and dining, this premium rewards rate could make the card worth getting. Spending on hotels and cruises will also earn you a respectable 3 points per dollar, which is on a par with what several other top-notch travel cards offer.

The $250 annual travel credit on the Citi Prestige® Card can ease the sting of the card's high annual fee. Citi's definition of travel is broad and includes less-considered ways of getting around, including taxis, subways, parking lots and tolls. If you ever leave your house, you'll likely find a way to use up that credit and effectively bring the net cost of owning the card down to $245.

Through Dec. 31, 2022, the annual travel credit will cover more than just travel. Restaurant purchases (including takeout) and supermarket purchases will also trigger the travel credit.

Complimentary fourth night hotel stay

This is one of the more valuable perks of owning the Citi Prestige® Card . Anytime you book a hotel stay of four nights or more through the Citi travel portal through a paid booking, an award booking or a combination of the two, you'll get night four on the house — whether it's an inexpensive room or a presidential suite. It should be noted, however, that this once-unlimited feature was capped at two times a year as of Sept. 1, 2019. Even so, if you take advantage, that, combined with the annual $250 travel credit, you'll probably get more than your money's worth out of the card.

Lounge access and TSA Precheck or Global Entry credit

The Citi Prestige® Card comes with Priority Pass Select membership, which gets you complimentary access to lounges in the Priority Pass network around the world. Waiting for your flight in one of those lounges instead of by a busy boarding gate might make your next airport experience a little more pleasant.

Another useful benefit: Every five years, the card offers a credit to cover the cost of your application fee for TSA Precheck (worth $85) or Global Entry (worth $100). If you qualify for one of these programs, you could get through airport security a little faster.

Methodology

NerdWallet reviews credit cards with an eye toward both the quantitative and qualitative features of a card. Quantitative features are those that boil down to dollars and cents, such as fees, interest rates, rewards (including earning rates and redemption values) and the cash value of benefits and perks. Qualitative factors are those that affect how easy or difficult it is for a typical cardholder to get good value from the card. They include such things as the ease of application, simplicity of the rewards structure, the likelihood of using certain features, and whether a card is well-suited to everyday use or is best reserved for specific purchases. Our star ratings serve as a general gauge of how each card compares with others in its class, but star ratings are intended to be just one consideration when a consumer is choosing a credit card. The Citi Prestige® Card (not available to new applicants) was once the most enticing, benefits-packed premium credit card on the market. It had strong travel perks, unmatched travel insurance , and unique features like free golf and American Airlines Admirals Club lounge access.

The card has since eliminated the majority of these benefits. But one feature that remains unchanged — and has in fact improved — is its annual $250 travel credit .

In the wake of coronavirus, Citi has attempted to keep its Citi Prestige cardholders from canceling by tweaking its benefits. It's a travel credit card, after all, and its price tag of $495 for the primary cardmember is difficult to justify if you're not traveling.

For the third consecutive year, Citi is expanding the yearly travel credit worth up to $250 to include supermarket and restaurant spending. Here's what you need to know.

Citi Prestige $250 travel credit expanded to cover more than just travel

Normally, the Citi Prestige travel credit would automatically reimburse you for expenses such as airfare, hotels, rental cars, cruises, etc. But it will also trigger for restaurant (including takeout) and supermarket purchases between January 1 and December 31, 2022.

If you spend $250 per year on dining or groceries, this credit effectively lowers your annual fee to $245 per year.

Here are the excluded purchases listed by Citi.

Supermarket purchases that won't count are those made with:

  • General merchandise/discount superstores
  • Freezer/meat locker provisioners
  • Dairy product stores
  • Miscellaneous food/convenience stores
  • Warehouse/wholesale clubs
  • Specialty vendors
  • Candy/nut/confectionery stores
  • Meal kit delivery services

Online supermarkets that don't code as "supermarket" on your statement will also not count.

Restaurant purchases that do not qualify are:

  • Restaurants located inside other establishments (such as department stores, warehouse clubs, etc.)

That looks like an intimidating list, but in practice, your credit should work where you think it will. I've still got the Citi Prestige and my credit has always activated on the purchases with which I intended to use it.

Remember, this credit is awarded per calendar year , not anniversary year — so your credit has been replenished as of January 1. Here's to a week or two of free groceries and restaurants!

Citi Prestige Card Review (2023)

Andrew

Here’s our review of the Citi Prestige Card issued in Singapore. It forms part of our series of credit card reviews, which are all summarised on our dedicated Credit Cards page .

Dollar amounts refer to SGD, and ‘miles’ refer to KrisFlyer miles, except where stated. This review was updated on 30th August 2023 .

  Mainly Miles Says

Some great benefits, including a 71,000 miles sign-up bonus and unlimited lounge access with a guest in tow, but do the Citi Prestige Card’s other perks like limo rides and golf perks justify the card’s $540 annual price tag after that?

Let’s see.

citi prestige travel credit 2023

  Eligibility

  • Minimum Age: 21
  • Minimum Income: $120,000/yr
  • Minimum Income (Citigold customers): $30,000/yr

The Citi Prestige card has a $120,000 per year income requirement for all applicants, except for Citigold customers who are eligible with an income of $30,000+.

  Annual Fees & Interest Rates

  • Annual Fee (principal): $540.00
  • Annual Fee (supplementary): Free

The annual fee for the Citi Prestige card is $540.00 . The annual fee is not waivable.

This will increase marginally to $545.00 from 1st January 2024, due to an increase in GST by the Singapore Government.

The good news is that you’ll receive 62,500 Citi ThankYou Points (25,000 miles) on payment of the annual fee, with no minimum spend requirement.

An unlimited number of supplementary cards can be added to your account for free. Supplementary cardholders must be at least 18 years old.

Other fees and interest rates for the Citi Prestige card include:

  • EIR:  26.9%
  • Interest-free period:  21 days
  • Minimum payment:  1%  (or current balance if < $50)
  • Late payment fee:  $100
  • Cash advance fee:  6%  (minimum $15)
  • Overlimit fee:  $40

  Sign-up bonus

The Citi Prestige card currently has a sign-up bonus of 71,000 miles , paid as 177,500 Citi ThankYou points, with a minimum spend of $2,000 ($1,000 in local currency  and  $1,000 in foreign currency) from the card approval date until the end of the second full calendar month.

citi prestige travel credit 2023

That’s enough miles to fly Business Class on Singapore Airlines from Singapore to Auckland or Sydney.

Provided you don’t currently hold a Citi Prestige card as the primary cardholder and haven’t held a Citi Prestige card in the 12 months before application, you’ll be eligible for the sign-up bonus.

That means existing Citi credit card holders, for example those with the PremierMiles and/or Rewards cards in their wallet, are also eligible to  apply  and receive the bonus.

The promotion is running for applications between 1st August 2023 and 31st October 2023.

Here’s how it’s structured.

  • 25,000 miles:  For payment of $540 annual fee
  • 23,000 miles:  For spending $1,000 in local currency
  • 23,000 miles:  For spending $1,000 in foreign currency
  • 71,000 miles :  Maximum total bonus

Cost per mile is the annual fee ($540) divided by the bonus element (71,000) =  0.76 cents each .

Full terms and conditions for the sign-up offer can be found  here .

Here’s how Citi outlines the offer:

citi prestige travel credit 2023

71,000 bonus miles when you spend   APPLY HERE

  Renewal bonus

Also at each annual renewal, on payment of the annual fee, you will be credited 62,500 Citi ThankYou Points (25,000 miles).

These Citi ThankYou Points can be transferred into one of 10 frequent flyer schemes (including KrisFlyer) at a 2.5:1 ratio.

  Regular earn rates

The Citi Prestige card earns:

  • 3.25 Citi Thank You Points (1.3 miles) for every $1 spent locally (i.e. transacted in SGD)
  • 5 Citi ThankYou Points (2 miles) for every $1 spent overseas (i.e. transacted in foreign currency)

Here’s how that compares to some other $120k income category cards on the market in Singapore.

Earn rates ($120k income cards) (Best to worst, August 2023)

* Higher earn rates for the SCVI card are subject to a minimum spend of $2,000 (any currency) in the same statement cycle. ** Step up earn rate for HSBC VI is only applicable from year 2 of card membership onwards, provided you spent at least $50,000 in the previous year.

  Relationship bonus

With the Citi Prestige card, there is also a Relationship Bonus applied to the regular earn rates.

The table below shows how it’s advertised. For a normal banking customer, the bonus is at least 5% in the first five years – but more if you are a Citigold customer.

citi prestige travel credit 2023

So surely a 5% bonus means 1.3 mpd becomes 1.365 mpd spent locally, right? Wrong!

This is actually very differently applied because the percentages referred to in this table are applied to your total overall spend and then paid in Citi ThankYou Points, not in miles . Here’s how Citi explains it in a bit more detail.

citi prestige travel credit 2023

For example, spend $10,000 (locally or overseas) and at the 5% rate you will be rewarded with 500 Citi ThankYou Points, which equates to 200 miles or a 2% bonus – not a great deal.

We have created a table to make it easier to understand what your actual miles earning rates  will be, with the relevant bonuses applied.

For example, assuming you aren’t a Citigold customer, after 10 years the earn rate rises to a maximum of 1.36 mpd locally  and  2.06 mpd overseas .

  Bonus miles promotions

Citi occasionally offers its Prestige cardholders the opportunity to earn bonus rates for specific spend categories. Recent examples include:

  • November – December 2021: 3 mpd on travel spend , capped at S$3,000 (9,000 miles)
  • March – August 2021: Uncapped 4 mpd on food delivery and home entertainment .

While it’s certainly not guaranteed, and offers have dried up recently, you should certainly be able to expect one or two bonus miles earning opportunities each year with this card.

While many of these deals are no better than you can get with other 4 mpd cards year-round, the benefit here is being able to divert spend away from those cards and onto the Citi Prestige card during the promotion itself, to free up the monthly caps on 4 mpd cards and maximise your miles earning for a month or two.

  Spend-and-get promotions (buy cheap miles)

Another great thing about the Citi Prestige card is occasional ‘spend and get’ miles offers – which allow you to buy miles at competitive rates, by meeting a spend threshold and on payment of a fee for the bonus miles.

These have included:

  • October 2020:   Buy 42,000 miles for $360  ( 0.86 cents each)
  • April 2020: Buy 61,000 miles for $700 ( 1.15 cents each)

These can be great deals to participate in for a healthy miles boost for a competitive fee, if you can meet the spend threshold during the promotion period.

  Eligible transactions

Citi maintains a list of merchants and / or MCC codes which will not earn Citi ThankYou points here .

Some of the most important exclusion categories are:

  • Education Institutions (MCC 8211 – 8299)
  • Government Services, including tax payments (MCC 9000 – 9999)
  • Insurance (MCC 6300)
  • Real Estate Agents and Managers – Rentals (MCC 6513)
  • Utilities (MCC 4900)

Note that education, insurance and tax payments are specifically  excluded  from miles earning.

citi prestige travel credit 2023

Good news is that the Citi Prestige card does earn 1.3 mpd for CardUp and ipaymy transactions.

  Are KrisFlyer miles credited directly?

No, instead of being credited miles directly you’ll accrue ‘Citi ThankYou points’ for your regular spending on this card.

These transfer to KrisFlyer miles at a 2.5:1 ratio (so for $25,000 of local spending, you’ll net 81,250 Citi ThankYou points, which can be converted to 32,500 KrisFlyer miles).

  When do points credit?

Citi ThankYou points should reflect in your account once the transaction posts, which typically takes anywhere between one and three days.

You won’t have to wait until your monthly statement for the Citi ThankYou points to be added, so if you’re making a purchase to achieve a short-term top-up they should be available to you within a few days.

  Do Citi ThankYou points expire?

Here’s a plus – Citi ThankYou points earned on the Prestige card never expire as long as your card account remains active, so unless you have an urgent or specific redemption need, there should be no harm in letting them accumulate.

Indeed this is a great benefit of this card, given Citi’s extensive FFP partner list (see below) you are effectively protecting yourself from devaluation in a single programme by retaining the flexibility of keeping your miles at the Citi side, until you need to make a redemption.

If your preferred FFP suffers a sudden devaluation (they do happen ), at least you then still have the flexibility to transfer your miles to another programme instead and still achieve good value from your hard-earned stash.

Citi Points don’t pool between cards

Not all credit card points are perfect, and our main bugbear with Citi is that it does not pool points across your cards and allow you to transfer them to your preferred FFP as a single (accumulated) transfer.

For example, if you have 30,000 Citi Miles on your Citi PremierMiles card and 75,000 Citi ThankYou Points on your Citi Rewards card (worth 30,000 miles), you won’t have the option to transfer those two amounts into 60,000 KrisFlyer miles.

Instead, will have to pay the transfer fee for each card (i.e. twice in this example).

citi prestige travel credit 2023

It also means you have to transfer all your points into miles before cancelling any Citi cards you hold, since you generally won’t be allowed to combine them with those accumulated on other Citi cards.

What is the transfer cost to KrisFlyer miles?

It’s the same for all 11 transfer partners which are part of the programme, $27.00 each time you transfer Citi ThankYou points to airline miles (like KrisFlyer miles).

This will increase marginally to $27.25 from 1st January 2024, due to an increase in GST by the Singapore Government.

↥  Is there a minimum transfer amount?

Yes, the minimum amount of Citi ThankYou points you can transfer into airline miles is 25,000, which converts to 10,000 miles, and they must then be in subsequent blocks of 25,000. Previously, much more flexible 1,250-point block transfers (into 500-mile denominations) were possible, but this sadly changed in 2017.

For example, if you have 99,999 Citi ThankYou Points, and you don’t have time to tick it over by making a small purchase (miles from purchases tend to reflect in your account within a few days), you’ll only be able to transfer 75,000 Citi ThankYou Points across to KrisFlyer (and will be left with 24,999 in your Citi ThankYou Points account).

Which loyalty schemes can you transfer into?

One of the best things about Citi ThankYou points in Singapore is the wide range of transfer partners  compared with other bank loyalty points.

You can transfer your miles into 10 different frequent flyer programmes (FFPs), plus into IHG points on the hotel loyalty side.

Here’s how Citi compares to other banks in Singapore.

Singapore credit card to FFP transfers

Citi ThankYou points transfer at the same 2.5:1 ratio into all these programmes, giving you a wide range of flight redemption options including Oneworld and SkyTeam carriers.

Convertible loyalty points like Citi TYPs are therefore intrinsically more valuable to you, because the range of transfer options protects you against devaluation in a single programme, and opens up a wider variety of redemption options.

citi prestige travel credit 2023

Since Citi ThankYou points earned on the Prestige card never expire and also transfer to most FFPs relatively quickly, there’s no rush to commit to a specific programme nor transfer regularly .

Simply transfer when you need to travel, into the scheme that works best for your preferred redemption.

How long do miles take to credit to KrisFlyer?

The official line is “up to 5 working days” . In reality the last few times we converted, it took 24-48 hours on each occasion. Here are our recent data points for transfer times from Citi:

  • KrisFlyer: 24 hours (48 hours for transfers initiated on a Sunday)
  • Asia Miles: 2 days
  • BA Avios: 2 days
  • Qatar Avios: 4 days

That’s not a bad turnaround, especially if you are looking to jump on a flight redemption that’s currently available.

Instant free transfer to KrisFlyer miles via Kris+

Since October 2021, it’s become possible to link your Citi ThankYou points and KrisPay account and instantly transfer as little as 4,000 miles into KrisPay miles via the Kris+ app .

The transfer ratio is 10,000:3,400 (e.g. 10,000 Citi TYPs = 3,400 KrisPay miles)

You won’t want to be using the converted KrisPay miles against Kris+ merchant purchases, due to the awful value of 0.67 cents per mile, but you can immediately transfer them 1:1 into your KrisFlyer account as KrisFlyer miles.

citi prestige travel credit 2023

As you’ll notice the ratio means taking a 15% ‘hit’ on the usual 2.5:1 Citi TYPs to KrisFlyer transfer rate, so it’s only of interest if you need a small amount to meet a specific redemption threshold, or have a small balance ‘stuck’ in Citi TYPs (less than 25,000), which you aren’t going to be adding to in future.

You shouldn’t be using this as your regular Citi ThankYou points to KrisFlyer transfer method, as it effectively devalues your miles earning rate to 1.1 mpd for local transactions, or 1.7 mpd for FCY transactions.

There are important factors to be aware of, firstly you’ll have to move any points transferred from Citi to KrisPay into KrisFlyer miles within seven days , otherwise they are stuck in KrisPay (where you definitely don’t want them).

The second is just as important, you cannot use any of the KrisPay miles you have earned from your Citi ThankYou points transfer for any Kris+ purchase, no matter how small, as that automatically renders the entire transfer stuck in Kris+ until expiry, six months later.

The golden rule therefore is to transfer in to KrisPay miles via Kris+, then transfer straight out to KrisFlyer. Even with that seven-day window available, our advice is don’t wait .

  Points rounding

Every eligible transaction you make using the Citi Prestige card is rounded down to the nearest Singapore dollar (after conversion from foreign currency, if applicable), before Citi ThankYou points are then assessed.

  • $21.49 rounds down to $21
  • $21.99 rounds down to $21

The appropriate multiplier of Citi ThankYou points is then applied to the transaction, depending on its nature, then rounded to the nearest whole mile.

Example (regular earn rate):

  • $21 x 3.25 (local) = 68.25 Points (rounds to 68 Points, equivalent to 27 Miles )
  • $21 x 5.0 (overseas) = 105 Points, equivalent to 42 miles

↥  Minimum spend to earn points

Since every amount you spend is rounded down to the nearest dollar before Citi ThankYou points are accounted for, $1.00 is the minimum transaction amount in order to earn points, or its equivalent in foreign currency for overseas spend.

This is a nice perk for Citi cards, with UOB, OCBC and now Maybank using the annoying $5 rounding method, where even a $4.99 transaction earns no rewards or miles at all!

No such worries with the Citi Prestige card, and one reason the UOB PRVI Miles option isn’t significantly better despite a higher headline earning rate (1.4 mpd), when it comes to smaller transactions at least.

  FCY fee / cpm overseas

The Citi Prestige card has a 3.25% foreign currency transaction fee, which is among the highest on the market in Singapore.

With a relatively standard regular overseas earn rate of 2 miles per dollar, that means it’s certainly not the best card to use as it is equivalent to paying 1.71 cents per mile when spending in foreign currency.

There are better cards than that for overseas spend, and you should be looking at the Standard Chartered Visa Infinite or UOB PRVI Miles for much better rates, not just in cost per mile terms but miles per dollar too.

Cost per mile on overseas transactions (Best to worst, August 2023)

* 3 mpd earn rate for the SCVI card is subject to a minimum spend of $2,000 (any currency) in the same statement cycle. ** Step up earn rate for HSBC VI is only applicable from year 2 of card membership onwards, provided you spent at least $50,000 in the previous year.

Cost per mile also accounts for an additional 0.3% ‘spread’ over money changer currency rates, though this doesn’t apply to all banks and all foreign currencies, so is a worst-case scenario.

If you’re holding a specialised 4 mpd card, like the DBS WWMC , you will of course be able to achieve much better cost per mile for transactions in foreign currency, provided you are spending within the card’s eligible categories and monthly spend cap.

  Citi PayAll

The Citi Prestige card participates in the bank’s ‘PayAll’ programme, a facility allowing you to pay a fee to use your card and still earn miles on a range of payment types that would otherwise be excluded from miles earning, or not usually possible with a credit card.

citi prestige travel credit 2023

At the time of writing, PayAll supports:

  • Tax payments to IRAS
  • Rent payments to your landlord in Singapore
  • Education payments to a school or tuition centre in Singapore
  • Condo Management Fees
  • Electricity payments in Singapore
  • Renovation fees
  • Wedding Expenses
  • Childcare services
  • Domestic helper service fees
  • Donations or charitable payments
  • Utility bills

Citi charges a 2.2% service fee for PayAll transactions, so you are ‘buying’ miles for 1.69 cents each when using your Prestige card at the local earn rate of 1.3 mpd for these payments.

Example, for a $4,000 rental payment:

  • Total Spend: $4,000
  • PayAll Fee (2.2%): $88
  • Total Spent: $4,088
  • Miles Earned: 5,200 (4,000 x 1.3)
  • Cost per Mile: 1.69 cents ($88 / 5,200)

Citi PayAll regularly runs promotions with enhanced earn rates for meeting specific spend thresholds through the payment service, which can drive the cost per mile down to even more competitive levels as low as 1 cent per mile.

  Lounge access

The Citi Prestige card comes with a complimentary Prestige level Priority Pass membership (usually US$469 per year), which entitles you to unlimited lounge visits throughout the year, including one free accompanying guest.

citi prestige travel credit 2023

This perk is a must for any frequent traveller who may not have airline status or doesn’t always fly in a premium cabin or with a full service airline. When travelling long haul, we always book or redeem Business or First Class, but on the shorter hops the expense often isn’t worth it.

citi prestige travel credit 2023

The guest allowance is especially useful when travelling with a partner, friend, colleague or client. This is not offered with other similar cards on the market.

Once you’re a cardholder, you’ll have to register online for instant Priority Pass membership via the Citi Mobile app and Priority Pass phone app, by following the instructions provided at the following link:

  • Citi Prestige PP membership application

Full terms and conditions are also available at that link.

  Free airport limo rides

For big spenders, Citi offers up to eight one-way complimentary airport limousine transfers per year.

When we say big spenders though, we mean it! A minimum spend of $12,000 per calendar quarter applies, unlocking two complimentary rides in a Mercedes-Benz E-Class during the same quarter. That is also the upper cap of complimentary rides in the same quarter (you can’t unlock single rides, only in pairs).

  • Q1:  1st January to 31st March
  • Q2:  1st April to 30th June
  • Q3:  1st July to 30th September
  • Q4:  1st October to 31st December

On the plus side, Citi PayAll transactions  do count towards the $12,000 spend requirement, so paying large bills this way such as your monthly property rental can help you reach the threshold.

Do note, however, that this excludes Citi PayAll transactions where you opt not to pay the Citi PayAll service fee.

We have a full rundown of which credit cards provide this service , but it’s safe to say the Citi Prestige offer is among the least generous of the pack.

Each limo ride is for a maximum of four passengers, with no additional midnight or Sentosa surcharges like you see with some other providers.

Booking is through an online portal at least 48 hours before your pick up time. You’ll have to make payment for the service using your Citi Prestige Mastercard, and the bank will then reimburse you (provided you met the spend criteria in that same quarter as the limo ride).

Reimbursement is to your card account, in  the following quarter .

Technically the Citi Prestige limo benefit ends on 31st December 2023, but the deal is likely to be renewed on similar terms next year.

Bear in mind it can take up to six months to be refunded for your limo ride under this system. For example a booking on 1st July might not be paid back to your card until the end of the following quarter, in late December.

Late cancellation and ‘no show’ penalties and fees apply for this service. Check the full terms and conditions here .

  Fourth night free

With the Citi Prestige card, the International Complimentary Night Hotels and Resorts Program offers you the fourth night free in any hotel in the world, with unlimited usage, when booked through the Citi Concierge.

To benefit, you’ll need to make a hotel booking of four consecutive nights or longer via the Citi Prestige concierge.

You will then be refunded for one night, based on the average rate before taxes for the first four nights of the stay. The refund will be applied to your card account within two statement cycles of the full hotel payment, which applies as soon as you book. The benefit is limited to one room per cardmember.

citi prestige travel credit 2023

You cannot book back-to-back stays in the same city to take advantage of the discount more than once (for example, by trying to get two nights free for an eight-night booking).

Even if you move to a different hotel in the same city, a seven-day gap between the bookings is necessary.

Unfortunately there are a raft of restrictions now applied to this benefit, which has seen it take a bit of a beating over the years. Here are some key exclusions :

  • Full and Half board room stays
  • Single and multi-room suites
  • Home & Farm stays
  • Serviced apartments
  • Packaged stays and member rates, such as air and hotel, hotel and car rental, or hotel and meals bundled promotions

It’s a shame this perk has seen so many added restrictions over the years, but you may still be able to use it to your advantage from time to time for a relatively “simple” four-night generic hotel stay.

Full terms and conditions are available here .

  Dining promotions

Citi Prestige cardholders can take advantage of the Prestige Guest Chef Dining Program, with a range of experiences offered throughout the year.

At the time of writing, a Four Hands Dining experience is being offered at Iggy’s on Orchard Road in September 2023.

citi prestige travel credit 2023

  Complimentary golf games

Citi Prestige cardholders are entitled to three complimentary green fee golf rounds at local golf clubs and three at regional clubs from those listed below, each calendar year.

* There is a requirement of one minimum accompanying paying guest per cardholder for Sentosa Golf Club. No accompanying paying guest is required for Sembawang Country Club, Marina Bay Golf Course and Regional Golf Clubs. Mission Hills Golf Club requires a minimum one-night stay for every tee time booking.

This can be used for multiple rounds at the same club if you wish.

citi prestige travel credit 2023

All bookings must be made via the booking link at  prestigegolf.apexlynx.net . Cardholders will be required to register their profile using their Citibank registered name, email address, and mobile number for verification purposes.

  World Elite Mastercard benefits

As a World Elite Mastercard, Citi Prestige members are also entitled to a range of additional benefits including:

  • 35% off Avis standard car hire rates
  • 10% off Hertz standard car hire rates
  • Complimentary fast-track to GHA DISCOVERY Titanium status
  • Complimentary HotelLux Elite Plus membership including 2,000 HoteLux points
  • Held Tables at more than 600 of the finest dining venues in major cities around the world
  • Other Mastercard ‘Priceless Specials’

Our Summary

The Citi Prestige Card doesn’t boast the best earning rates, but there’s a fantastic 71,000 miles sign-up bonus on offer for a reasonable spend of $2,000 in the first two months, plus an annual recurring bonus of 25,000 miles after that.

The ability to transfer miles into several frequent flyer schemes other than KrisFlyer is also a great feature, indeed we often use this card to top up our British Airways Avios balance, which we use for Qatar Airways Qsuite and Cathay Pacific First and Business Class redemptions.

The real value of this card comes from the perks – primarily the fourth night free deal and the unlimited Priority Pass membership including one guest.

If you use those correctly, they can end up saving you significant money  over the year.

Thanks a lot for this!

So if you have this card and use the concierge to book a hotel that benefits from the free fourth night, will you still get any applicable loyalty points from that Hotel?

Hi Joe, it should be a standard rate booking and therefore the benefits are applied. We have always received the full points amount for the stay when we have used it in the past.

Citi Concierge will tell you where they are securing the rate from – in some cases when applying some very discounted rates (certain OTAs) you may not get points but you can always direct the concierge to book directly with the hotel.

Thanks for this, Eddie.. with so many different perks from different card issuers, it’s hard to keep track of everything and reading your article brought to my attention the free Boingo Wi-Fi benefit from Mastercard and I’ve signed up/activated my free account.. I don’t know how good or bad it is, and will find out on my next trip on 1 May, but given its free-of-charge, with the added hope that it will work in addition to SQ’s free 100MB onboard, everything will be a no-cost bonus! Thanks!

Hey there, Great review. I suppose the relationship bonus applies if you have a savings or current account with Citi? Is that the criteria? thanks

Hi Mike. Glad you found the review helpful. The relationship bonus is based on your continuous tenure with Citi – but any relationship will do including a credit card account, you don’t need to hold any other accounts with them to qualify.

One other nice thing to note.. their max 4x a Q or 8x per year Airport Limo Service.. can be used for both outgoing AND incoming.. unlike most others.. I believe DBS Treasures is another (not sure, was told) that also offer limo service for incoming.. so if you travel 8x a year, use Citi Prestige for incoming and another card (UOB PRVImilea Amex, HSBC Visa Infinite etc) for outgoing.. if you travel more than 8x a year, get spouse to apply for card too.. unlike HSBC Visa Infinite, where only Principal Cardholders can use the Limo service, for Citi Prestige, both Principal and Supp Cardholders can use the service..

You mention that “The International Complimentary Night benefit is genuinely an excellent deal. This perk is not unique to this card and is actually a MasterCard World or World Elite benefit.”

Does that mean I can get the complimentary night benefit with my DBS Woman’s World Card? How do I go about making use of that benefit?

The 4th Night Free benefit isn’t unique?

For any hotel anywhere in the world?

I’m not saying you’re wrong, but from what I’ve seen so far, this benefit, some ‘even better’, but 4th Night Free isn’t for any hotel, anywhere in the world.. Could you please provide reference?

The 4th Night Free benefit isn’t unique… to the Citi Prestige MC. It’s actually a perk derived from the fact the card is a World Elite MC, implying that other World Elite credit cards could also carry the same perk (although reference to the 4th night perk seems to have been wiped from MasterCard’s own website and now solely exists on Citi’s pages around the world implying that perhaps Citi cards are the only ones to receive this great perk).

From the T&Cs: “Primary cardholder will enjoy one complimentary night with no black-out dates, when you book four consecutive nights at any hotel through Citi Prestige Concierge.

We’ve tested this “ any ” statement quite extensively with some weird and wonderful hotels and offers throughout the world and the concierge has never failed. Even down to booking using special rate codes directly with the hotel via email… the concierge was able to pick up the chain and confirm the booking.

https://www.citibank.com.sg/prestige/terms-benefits.html

As always, you’re the best, Eddie.. and if you were Andrew, I’d say the exact same thing! Hee..

But.. really.. thanks for that explanation.. I myself I’m very new to the 4th Night Free benefit, even having the card for years, never new about it or never bothered to look into it, but to be fair, most times I’m lucky that I get pretty good corp rates that wind up being even better than this perk.. except when it comes to ‘vacation’ especially ‘luxe vacation’ spots, which corp rates usually don’t/won’t cover.. so my first time making use of this will be next Feb.. still.. that one free night, pays more than the card’s AF.. so no complaints! ☺️

Awesome! Gosh, now I want to marry you! 😜

Thanks a mil! Will definitely try the next time!

I don’t have a DBS Woman’s World MC to check the BIN of the card but from what I can see, it doesn’t count as a World Elite MC.

Since writing the card, all information regarding this benefit has been wiped from MasterCard’s websites and now only appears to reside on Citi’s websites worldwide, which would imply that either the perk has been moved in-house to Citi or that only Citi World Elite MasterCards are eligible.

I will update the article accordingly. Thanks

You are always welcome Ken.

We’ve saved many thousands of dollars over the years on hotels using this benefit. In fact we have just hit $2.5k USD in the last 2 months!

Try phoning the concierge and asking to combine your corporate rate code with the 4th night free benefit. We’ve always had success in the past but, after all the bookings – we’re on first name terms with the whole concierge team!

Hey I am just wondering if you happen to know whether I will accrue citi$ if I use the card to fund my trading account?

You mentioned that you’re able to use the 4th Night Free benefit even with corporate rates? Their TNC states that this benefit can’t be used in conjunction with corporate rates and a whole slew of other promotions / discounts. Link – https://www.citibank.com.sg/prestige/terms-benefits.html

Just phone the concierge up and they’ll sort you out anyway with no issues? Curious because this could be a huge game changer for business travel, but I have to use corporate rates in most situations in order to get my expenses reimbursed.

Thanks Other Ken

Hi Other Ken 😂, It certainly isn’t official but one of the main advantages of the concierge’s personal touch, is that there has typically been some flexibility. I don’t know if it will still apply but it doesn’t hurt to ask – we’ve had success in the past for many bookings that don’t comply completely with the rules. Depending on who you speak to, they may have to refer the judgement to a manager. Give it a go – see what happens! And make sure to report back.

Thanks, Eddie.

Hi Other Ken..

In this case, the T’s & C’s don’t favor either Citi or The Conceirge Service Provider.. The 4th Night free is at cost to Citi (or Service Provider), not the hotel, so it’s in the interest of the bank to get the lowest possible rate.. so I’d give it a try.. I’ve successfully done so.. I just don’t get to use it often as I seldom stay that long in one place these days..

I just got the card and had a phone chat with the service rep – the Boingo account is no longer part of the offering for this card.

Ahhhh… Good to know.. I did wonder why I had difficulty getting Wi-Fi onboard the last few times.. or maybe it was just coincidence.. regardless, another reason for not renewing the card..

The concierge service provided by Aspire Lifestyle needed to redeem the 4th night free is a pain to use and typically require multiple 10-15 minute calls with really terrible agents to make a simple booking. Beware: they might book you using expedia and in that case no elite perks or points/ nights credited to your loyalty program.

EDITOR'S NOTE

Travel credit cards often deliver exceptional value to cardholders who want to be rewarded for their swipes. But there is a higher tier of travel card that caters specifically to customers who travel often and enjoy the finer things along the way.

The Citi Prestige ® Card is one of the best credit cards for high spenders who also have a healthy dose of the travel bug. This Citi Prestige review will take a closer look at this luxury card so you can decide whether or not it’s the right choice for you.

Note: The Citi Prestige is no longer available for applications. Find other card considerations at the bottom of this review.

Citi Prestige FAQs

Other cards to consider, who should get the citi prestige.

The Citi Prestige card is aimed at those who have excellent credit and are looking for more high-end experiences from their travel credit card. With travel perks like a free night twice per year, an annual travel credit, and Priority Pass lounge access plus this card's ability to quickly earn travel rewards, the Citi Prestige can be a good fit for an avid adventurer.

You would have to travel often during the year to earn enough Citi ThankYou points and travel credits to offset the card’s $495 annual fee. However, the benefits of being a Citi Prestige cardholder also go beyond what many of its competitors offer, which may well deliver enough value for some.

  • $250 annual travel credit : Every year, you can get up to $250 in automatic statement credits for purchases categorized as travel.
  • Free night at hotel : When you book 4 consecutive nights at a hotel using 1-800-THANKYOU or ThankYou.com, you get the fourth night free. You can take advantage of this complimentary fourth night benefit twice per calendar year.
  • VIP lounge access: As a Citi Prestige cardholder, you are given complimentary access to VIP lounges through a Priority Pass Select membership. With hundreds of locations in the U.S. and over 1,300 lounges and restaurants in airports worldwide, you can have some downtime before flying in luxury.
  • Earn major points : Citi Prestige rewards travel and dining purchases with huge point earnings per dollar spent.
  • Global Entry or TSA PreCheck: You can get a statement credit for up to $100 every 5 years, as an application fee reimbursement for either Global Entry or TSA PreCheck . This can be a time saver for both domestic and international travelers.
  • Lots of options for redeeming points : ThankYou points can be used for travel purchases, statement credits, exclusive events and experiences, gift cards, cash payments, and even charitable donations.
  • High annual fee: The Citi Prestige does come with an annual fee of $495. But once you figure in the annual credit and other travel perks, this card can pay for itself if you take advantage of its benefits. This card will not be a good fit for someone who does not use these perks.
  • Fewer travel partners: Citi does not have as robust of a transfer program as other credit card issuers like Chase or Amex, which have many hotel partners. While the list of Citi's hospitality partners has grown since they first introduced it, it will not provide you as much flexibility or value if you want access to a wider range of transfer opportunities.

Earning & redeeming ThankYou Points

Potential earnings in years one and two.

Here's a look how your ThankYou points can add up with the Citi Prestige. To calculate these values, we used a point valuation of 1.7 cents each, which is considered the average redemption value in the points-and-miles community.

Remember, this is an estimation. The actual value will be determined by how much you spend and in which categories you spend.

Year one earnings: $1,339.30

Year two earnings: $489.30

These values are based on the FinanceBuzz Credit Card Rewards Valuation Model which takes a look at points earned via spending, the sign-up bonus, and the annual fee. If you take advantage of the annual travel credit, free night, and other perks that come with the Citi Prestige, you will get even more value out of this card each year.

Best ways to earn

Taking advantage of bonus categories is the best way to use any rewards credit card. Whether you’re sleeping on the road or sailing the seas, every swipe of your Prestige card earns you points that can be turned into dollars to put toward your next trip.

In addition, the Citi rewards program allows you to pool your Citi ThankYou points from multiple Citi cards into one ThankYou account. This is important because only the Citi Premier ® Card and Citi Prestige can transfer to all the airline partners.

But if you have a Citi Double Cash ® Card you can earn 2% on every purchase with unlimited 1% cash back when you buy, plus an additional 1% as you pay for those purchases; plus, for a limited time, earn 5% total cash back on hotel, car rentals and attractions booked on the Citi Travel℠ portal through 12/31/24. Then you can pool all those points together.

Maximizing your redemptions

You have a lot of flexibility when it comes to using your points. Citi offers a travel marketplace through which you can book your flights, hotels, cruises, and other arrangements for a trip and pay with points. If you make enough card purchases to qualify for the welcome offer, you’ll have $500 worth of points you can spend within months of opening an account.

You can apply your annual $250 in travel credits and possibly some of your points to the expense of booking four consecutive hotel nights through ThankYou.com so you can take advantage of your fourth night free benefit.

If these redemption options don’t appeal to you, you can always trade in points for statement credits, gift cards, or even cash.

Citi Prestige transfer partners

You can also take advantage of the  Citi transfer partners . You can transfer to several airline loyalty programs and then redeem your rewards directly through those airlines. The Citi Prestige is one of the few cards in the ThankYou Rewards program that allows you to transfer your points to other programs, and in most cases, your points will transfer at a 1:1 rate.

Citi transfer partners include:

Is the Citi Prestige still worth it?

It can be for the right kind of customer. This card is for the frequent traveler who wants to take advantage of perks and opportunities to earn lots of points while they see the world. It is a high-end card that delivers high-end benefits that make the $495 annual fee pay for itself if used right.

If you don’t travel enough to use $250 in travel credits, a free fourth night at a hotel of your choice, free access to VIP lounges in airports around the globe, or a fee credit to pay for Global Entry or TSA Precheck, then this card may not be worth looking into.

Does the Citi Prestige have Priority Pass?

Yes. When you are approved for the Citi Prestige card, you become a Priority Pass Select member. This means you complimentary access to more than 1,300 VIP lounges and restaurants around the world. You can also bring up to two guests with you for free.

Is the Citi Prestige card metal?

Like many other high-end credit cards, the Citi Prestige card is metal.

Does the Citi Prestige waive the annual fee for the military?

Citi currently waives all fees for those who qualify for benefits under the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act, but you have to apply to Citi directly for this waiver.

If you’re thinking the Citi Prestige card might not be your cup of tea, but you’re still looking for a high-end rewards credit card, here are two other rewards card offers to investigate.

Both the Chase Sapphire Preferred and Reserve cards are popular and deliver good value for travelers. The Chase Sapphire Reserve ®  earns you 3X points for other travel and dining, which is less than what you get with Citi Prestige. New cardholders can earn 60,000 bonus points after you spend $4,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening — worth $900 in redemptions through Chase Ultimate Rewards, and the annual travel credit is $300 instead of $250.

The Platinum Card ® from American Express comes in with a higher annual fee of $ 695 , but some significant benefits for those dollars. Cardholders can earn 5X points per dollar spent on eligible airfare (on up to $500,000 per calendar year, after that 1X) and eligible hotel purchases, and 1X points per dollar on all other eligible purchases. Plus, this card comes with luxury perks like access to VIP properties in the American Express Global Lounge Collection and its partner networks, complimentary benefits with Fine Hotels & Resorts, and up to $200 in Uber Cash annually (terms apply). These benefits, coupled with complimentary rental car insurance and elite status with Marriott and Hilton make the annual fee worth it for many cardholders. Select benefits require enrollment.

You can compare the Chase Sapphire Reserve vs. Amex Platinum vs. Citi Prestige cards side by side to figure out which best fits your needs.

Citi Prestige® Card review

Citi Prestige® Card review

Written by: Emily Sherman

In a Nutshell:

Luxury travelers should enjoy the Citi Prestige card’s solid list of benefits, including its robust set of travel protections and a fourth night free on hotel stays up to twice per year.

Partner Offer: Citi is an advertising partner

Information about the Citi Prestige Card has been collected independently by CreditCards.com. The issuer did not provide the details, nor is it responsible for their accuracy.

Editor’s note: Some of the offers on this page may be expired. Check out our Best Credit Cards page for the most up-to-date offers for our favorite credit cards.

Other Notable Features: Free Priority Pass lounge access for card member and 2 guests, 4 th night free at any hotel up to 2 times per year, $250 travel credit, $100 credit for Global Entry/TSA PreCheck, no foreign transaction fees, 24/7 concierge, Citi Private Pass BEYOND, purchase protection, extended warranty

Though the updates to the newly relaunched Citi Prestige card are a mixed bag, the card is still a strong choice for a luxury travel card.

Editor’s note: Some of the offers on this page may be expired. Check out our Best Credit Cards page for the most up-to-date offers for our favorite credit cards.

Citi Prestige Card Review: More Details

Earlier this year, the Citi Prestige card relaunched after being closed to applications for several months, ushering in several changes. The biggest update was a huge draw for foodies – a new bonus category offering 5 points per dollar on dining purchases.

But that’s not the only great benefit that comes with the card. Frequent travelers can also enjoy a great rate on travel purchases and a more flexible travel credit. Plus, travelers who enjoy luxury perks like lounge access can get great value out of the card by taking full advantage of its benefits. For example, the card comes with a fourth night free at any hotel up to two times per year – which can save smart spenders hundreds on longer vacations.

Unfortunately, the card also comes with an increased annual fee of $495, putting it out of reach for more moderate spenders.

Sign-up bonus

The Citi Prestige card is currently offering new cardholders 50,000 points if they spend $4,000 in the first three months. This is a decent sign-up bonus, but not the highest you can find among travel cards – especially with such a high annual fee. If you redeem your ThankYou points for travel, this introductory offer is worth around $500.

The Chase Sapphire Reserve® , for comparison, offers new cardholders 60,000 points for spending $4,000 in the first three months. Due to a higher point value, this bonus is worth $900 toward travel redeemed through Ultimate Rewards.

Earning points

Thanks to a generous rate on dining and air travel purchases, earning points on the Citi Prestige is simple. In fact, the Citi Prestige is currently offering the highest rewards rate currently available on restaurant purchases – 5 points per dollar. This makes it a great choice for foodies and especially travelers who enjoy eating out while they vacation.

In addition to a top-tier dining rate, the Citi Prestige offers 5 points per dollar on air travel, 3 points per dollar on hotels and cruise lines and 1 point per dollar on other purchases. This rate makes it easy to earn points on most travel purchases – though it is not the most inclusive travel card available. Purchases like ride-share rides, parking garages and train fares will only earn 1 point per dollar.

What are Citi Prestige points worth?

Unfortunately, the Citi Prestige card no longer offers a higher point value for redeeming your ThankYou points for travel purchases. That means that the most value you’ll be able to get out of your points is 1 cent per point. This has a big impact on the overall earning potential of the Prestige card, despite a high rewards rate.

See Related: Earning and using Citi ThankYou points

Since many travel cards offer a higher point value when redeemed a certain way, they can earn more in rewards value for every dollar you spend – even with a slightly lower earning rate. Here’s a quick look at some of our most popular travel cards and what we estimate you can earn per dollar of spending (factoring average earning rate and point value):

citi prestige travel credit 2023

As you can see, the Citi Prestige ranks below many other travel cards in average rewards value earned. However, it does come with a few travel perks that can help add to the card’s value.

Redeeming Citi Prestige points

Once you’ve racked up ThankYou points with the Citi Prestige card, there are several different ways you can choose to redeem them. Travel booked through the ThankYou Rewards center gets the most value out of your points, while other options might not be quite as valuable.

Citi Prestige redemption options

As you can see, opting for cash rewards sacrifices half the value of your points. To get the most out of your ThankYou points, we recommend saving them for flight bookings.

Transferring points

In addition to the standard redemption options, Citi Prestige cardholders can transfer their points to several travel partners at a 1:1 rate. Since many airline miles are worth more than 1 cent per mile, this can be a great option to stretch your points.

Unfortunately, there are no major airlines on the list, and domestic flights are particularly limited.

Fourth night free benefit

One of the most popular perks that comes with the Citi Prestige card is the fourth night free , which lets cardholders receive a free night on stays of four nights or longer at any hotel booked with the card. This is an incredibly valuable offer, even considering that Citi caps the usage on it at two times per year. Travelers who use their fourth night free strategically can save hundreds of dollars with the perk.

Priority Pass lounge access

Another plush benefit that comes with the Citi Prestige is Priority Pass Select membership – which grants access to more than 1,200 airport lounges, restaurants and Minute Suites around the globe. Plus, cardholders can bring up to two complimentary guests on each visit.

See Related: Guide to Priority Pass lounges

If you are hoping to bring the entire family into Priority Pass lounges, keep in mind that authorized users of your Citi Prestige card can enroll in their own Priority Pass access – and bring their own guests. While there is a $75 fee per year for each authorized user, this is a great way to save on food, Wi-Fi and more while traveling, even with the whole family.

Travel credit

When the Citi Prestige card updated earlier this year, one major change was to increase the flexibility of the card’s travel credit . Each calendar year, cardholders can receive statement credits up to $250 to cover any travel purchase – including airfare, hotel stays, subway rides, ride-share services, parking garages and much more. Any time you make a qualifying purchase, you will automatically receive a statement credit to cover the cost – until you meet your full $250.

Pairs well with the Citi Double Cash® Card

While the Citi Prestige card offers a great rewards rate on air travel, restaurants, hotels and cruise lines, it’s not an ideal card for everyday spending. To maximize your rewards, consider pairing with the Citi Double Cash® Card , which offers a terrific 2 percent cash back rate on all purchases with no annual fee (you earn 1 percent when you buy and 1 percent when you pay off your purchases).

With the Double Cash Card, you’re not limited to receiving your rewards as cash back. You can convert cash back to ThankYou points at a rate of $1 cash back to 100 ThankYou Points, which is effectively a 1:1 rate. This is great news, as the Double Cash card’s 2 percent cash back rate gives you an effective earning rate of 2 ThankYou points per dollar on all purchases, not just those related to travel and dining.

Other benefits

The travel protections that come with the Citi Prestige card are just a few of the great perks the card offers. You’ll also receive perks that can save you money while shopping.

  • Purchase protection – If an item you purchase with your Citi Prestige is damaged or stolen in the first 120 days, you can be covered up to $10,000 per item (max $50,000 per year).
  • Extended warranty – Add an additional 24 months to eligible manufacturer’s warranties of five years or less.
  • Global Entry/TSA Precheck credit – You can be reimbursed up to $100 for your application fee for Global Entry/TSA Precheck .

Citi Prestige vs. Citi Premier

If you are eager to start earning ThankYou points – but hesitant to pay such a high annual fee – Citi offers another travel card at a much lower price point. The Citi Premier® Card charges an annual fee of $95 and offers a 60,000 point sign-up bonus to users who spend $4,000 in the first three months.

See Related: Citi Prestige Card vs. Citi Premier Card: Which is best for you?

On the downside, the Citi Premier comes with a much lower earning rate. The card earns 3 points per dollar spent at restaurants, supermarkets, gas stations, hotels and on air travel. It earns 1 point per dollar spent on other purchases. If you are focused on earning the best dining and air travel rewards, the Citi Prestige easily outpaces the Premier, even with a lower point value.

Customer experience

Among major credit card issuers, Citi’s customer experience falls in the middle of the pack. In J.D. Power’s 2020 customer satisfaction survey, the bank scored 801, ranking sixth out of 11 issuers. On the plus side, Citi does offer 24/7 customer service, including an online chat feature. The bank’s app also receives decent reviews – rating 4.6 out of 5 in the Google Play Store and 4.9 out of 5 in the Apple App Store.

Approval odds

The Citi Prestige card is designed for users with excellent credit (above 740), so you’ll want to ensure you meet those qualifications before you apply. Additionally, you won’t be eligible for the card’s sign-up bonus if you’ve received a bonus for or closed a Citi Rewards+® Card or Citi Premier card in the last 24 months.

How does the Citi Prestige card compare to other luxury travel cards?

The Citi Prestige offers some great travel perks to offset a high annual fee, including a fourth night free at any hotel twice per year and a flexible travel credit. However, it might not be the best option for every cardholder. Here’s a quick look at a few luxury travel card alternatives:

The Platinum Card from American Express

The Platinum Card from American Express is one of the most expensive luxury cards on the market, but it also comes loaded with some of the most luxury perks offered by a rewards card. Platinum cardholders receive extensive lounge access, including Priority Pass Select membership and access to plush Centurion lounges .

See Related: Citi Prestige vs. The Platinum Card® from American Express

Platinum cardholders also receive several yearly credits – such as up to $200 in statement credits per calendar year for incidental charges on a selected qualifying airline (enrollment required) – that can help make up for the card’s annual fee.

Chase Sapphire Reserve

One of our most popular travel cards, the Chase Sapphire Reserve comes with an incredibly flexible $300 travel credit. Similar to the credit on the Citi Prestige, Reserve cardholders can receive statement credits to cover purchases like ride-shares, parking garages, bus tickets and much more. Additionally, the Reserve card offers a 50 percent higher point value on travel redemptions through the Ultimate Rewards portal .

See related :  Citi Prestige vs. Chase Sapphire Reserve

American Express Gold Card

The Amex Gold card is another top rewards card among foodies, thanks to its generous rewards rate on both restaurant and U.S. supermarket purchases. While the card offers a slightly lower rewards rate on dining out than the Citi Prestige, it comes with a much lower annual fee of $250. Unfortunately, the travel benefits on the Gold card are much more limited. Most notably, you won’t receive any sort of lounge access.

Who should get the Citi Prestige card?

  • Frequent travelers who will take advantage of a flexible travel credit.
  • Travelers who frequently stay at a hotel for four nights or longer.
  • Cardholders seeking lounge access.
  • Cardholders who spend a significant amount on dining purchases.

How to use the Citi Prestige card:

  • Redeem your ThankYou points for airfare to get the best value.
  • Consider adding an authorized user ($75 annual fee per user) to grant them the same benefits, including lounge access.
  • Charge all restaurant and travel purchases to the card to take advantage of bonus points and the annual travel credit.
  • Pay for hotel stays of four nights or longer with your card to take advantage of a fourth night free twice per year.

Is the Citi Prestige worth it?

The Citi Prestige card comes with a hefty annual fee, but if you spend a good amount on dining and are a frequent traveler – especially if you often book hotel stays of four nights or longer – you can leverage the card to earn rewards and save hundreds on travel-related expenses every year.

Ultimate guide to the Citi travel portal

Ryan Smith

Editor's Note

The new Citi travel portal launched earlier this year , offering an enhanced user experience, more hotel options and a new feature for booking activities and attractions. Citi Travel with Booking.com is powered by Rocket Travel by Agoda, utilizing the features and booking availability of Booking.com's brands.

In this article, we will explore the functionality of the new Citi travel portal, discuss any potential drawbacks and clarify who can access this booking engine. Additionally, we will provide a step-by-step guide on using the portal to book your desired travel experiences and explain how to pay using your ThankYou points.

What is the Citi travel portal?

There are four main selling points for using Citi Travel with Booking.com.

First, it provides a one-stop shop for travel that you can pay for with your Citi ThankYou points while booking multiple elements of a trip simultaneously. This can be simpler than transferring points to separate airline or hotel partners and booking your trip piece by piece — and you can even use as many or as few points as you want. The downside is that you might achieve less value from your points to gain simplicity.

citi prestige travel credit 2023

Second, the portal allows you to use points to pay for travel beyond flights and hotels, such as guided tours and theme park tickets. You can't do this with Citi's list of transfer partners, and you may achieve better value paying for travel with points in Citi's portal than you would by cashing out your points .

Third, certain card benefits require using the Citi travel portal. This is true of hotel benefits built into the Citi Prestige® Card (no longer open to new applicants) and Citi Premier® Card (see rates and fees ). We'll explore those below.

The information for the Citi Prestige has been collected independently by The Points Guy. The card details on this page have not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer.

Lastly, if you're paying for travel (and not using points), you may be interested in the bonus points available when using Citi Travel with Booking.com. Competitors like the Chase Ultimate Rewards travel portal , American Express Travel and Capital One Travel offer higher earn rates (depending on which credit cards you have) when booking your travel in the bank's portal rather than directly.

Through June 30, 2024, Citi cardholders can earn bonus points as follows:

  • 10 points per dollar on reservations for hotels, rental cars and eligible attractions with the Citi Prestige® Card (no longer open to new applicants) and the Citi Premier® Card

Through December 31, 2025, Citi cardholders can earn bonus points as follows:

  • 5 points per dollar on these same bookings with the Citi ThankYou® Preferred Card (no longer open to new applicants) and the Citi Rewards+® Card (see rates and fees )

The information for the Citi ThankYou Preferred card has been collected independently by The Points Guy. The card details on this page have not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer.

The fact that Citi's portal provides a one-stop shop for your vacation is its main strength. The ability to book hotels, rental cars and even entrance tickets to tourist attractions in one place (and even pay for these with your points) provides great simplicity.

How to use the Citi travel portal

Citi's portal sets itself apart from competitors by being available to anyone with a credit card earning Citi ThankYou points . For comparison, some travel portals reserve their best features for cardholders with expensive premium credit cards . Thus, you can access the portal with the $495-a-year Citi Prestige Card and the no-annual-fee Citi Rewards+ Card .

You can access Citi Travel with Booking.com by clicking this link and logging into your Citi account. If you have multiple Citi credit cards, you must select which card you want to use for booking travel.

citi prestige travel credit 2023

Once you select a card, you're ready to start booking travel.

How to book flights using the Citi travel portal

Booking flights in Citi's portal functions similarly to other portals. You'll choose whether this is a one-way or round-trip flight and provide the route, number of passengers, dates and class of travel. Unfortunately, you can't book multi-city itineraries.

citi prestige travel credit 2023

Here's an example search from Chicago to Los Angeles. Note that you can use cities for your search if you don't have a specific airport preference.

citi prestige travel credit 2023

The Citi Travel portal offers many filters and sorting options to help you find the most suitable travel options. These filters allow you to refine your search based on price, duration, departure and arrival times, number of connections and even your preferred airline. Furthermore, you can sort the results using these options without losing any filtering choices.

To change the sorting order of the results, click on the "Best overall" drop-down menu on the right side above the price of the first result.

Once you have selected a flight, you will be prompted to provide passenger information, including names, dates of birth, frequent flyer numbers and known traveler numbers for TSA PreCheck and Global Entry (if applicable).

Additionally, before making your payment, you can upgrade to a higher class of travel if it is available. This is the first time you'll see the cost to book a main cabin fare instead of a basic economy fare.

citi prestige travel credit 2023

And if your fare class lets you select a seat, you can do so before heading to the payment page.

citi prestige travel credit 2023

On the final page, you'll choose how you want to pay (with your points, credit card or a mix of the two) and complete your purchase. The redemption rate is an underwhelming 1 cent per point. For context, our valuations peg ThankYou points at 1.8 cents apiece, which you should be able to get by maximizing Citi's transfer partners .

How to book hotels using the Citi travel portal

Booking hotels will feel familiar to those who have used other portals.

You should choose your Citi Premier or Citi Prestige card before beginning your hotel search if you intend to use those cards' benefits. Premier cardholders can use a $100 hotel credit each calendar year on a booking of $500 or more. In contrast, Prestige cardholders get a fourth night free on hotel bookings in the portal, available up to twice per calendar year.

citi prestige travel credit 2023

From here, you can add filters to help you reduce your results, such as by price, neighborhood, star rating and nearby attractions.

Once you pick a property, you'll see details on its amenities and features.

citi prestige travel credit 2023

Then, you can select your desired room.

citi prestige travel credit 2023

After choosing a room type, you can pay with points at checkout. Again, each point is worth a lackluster 1 cent.

citi prestige travel credit 2023

You'll also have the option to view the cancellation policy before paying. Since policies can vary, ensure you know whether it's possible to change or cancel your booking before you make the final payment.

However, if you book a hotel that's part of a major loyalty program — like Hilton Honors or Marriott Bonvoy — through Citi, you likely won't earn points, nor will you enjoy any elite status perks on your reservation.

Hotel Collection and Luxury Collection properties

Alongside its revamped portal, Citi has introduced two new hotel programs, namely the Hotel Collection and the Luxury Collection. These programs offer similar advantages to other luxury hotel programs offered by credit cards .

Reservations through the Hotel and Luxury Collection have no minimum stay requirements. However, access to the Luxury Collection is exclusive to Citi Premier and Citi Prestige cardholders.

You will receive guaranteed benefits such as daily breakfast for two people and complimentary Wi-Fi for Hotel Collection bookings. In addition to these perks, the Luxury Collection offers a $100 on-property credit, which can be used based on the policies of each hotel. Both programs also provide other benefits, such as early check-in, late checkout and room upgrades (specifically for Luxury Collection bookings, subject to availability at check-in).

Unfortunately, you can't filter search results specifically for Hotel and Luxury collections properties. To identify these properties, you must look for a tag or description indicating their inclusion in your search results.

How to book rental cars using the Citi travel portal

Searching for rental cars feels familiar and works quickly.

citi prestige travel credit 2023

After providing your location, dates, times and age, click "Search." From the available results, you can use the following filters:

  • Vehicle type
  • Rental company
  • Free cancellation option availability

After choosing a car, you can see the full details and cancellation policy on the next page.

citi prestige travel credit 2023

As with other items in Citi Travel with Booking.com , you can add your rental car to the shopping cart (if booking multiple travel elements) or go straight to check out to pay and reserve. Again, you can pay with points at a rate of 1 cent apiece.

How to book attractions using the Citi travel portal

One standout feature of Citi's travel portal is the ability to book attractions along with your hotels, flights and rental cars. This convenient option allows you to make a single transaction for all your travel needs, and you can even use your points to pay for them.

To access this feature, look for the "Attractions" option in the main search bar. However, depending on your location within the portal, you may need to click "More" in the drop-down menu and select "Attractions" from there.

citi prestige travel credit 2023

Once you search for a destination, you'll see all available options— from entrance tickets for tourist sights to guided tours. For example, you can book a guided walking tour of the Hollywood Sign.

citi prestige travel credit 2023

When you see an activity or tickets you want to purchase, click on the tile. This will take you to a page with details about this offering and cancellation policies.

One noteworthy option is Chicago CityPASS tickets, including access to five popular attractions. Click on "Check availability" in the top right corner to choose your preferred date to find pricing and availability.

citi prestige travel credit 2023

As with other elements of Citi's portal, you can pay for attraction bookings using ThankYou points with a value of 1 cent apiece.

More things to consider about the Citi travel portal

Now that you know how to use the Citi travel portal, here's some general guidance to maximize your experience.

As always, we recommend comparing prices. There is no guarantee that Citi Travel with Booking.com will offer the best price for your trip. It's recommended to compare the prices you see on the portal with prices available when booking directly with hotels, airlines, rental car companies or tour providers.

If you plan to pay with points, check if you can get better value by using fewer points with Citi's transfer partners . Transferring points to programs like Wyndham Rewards may let you get more value from your points. Check out our guide to redeeming Citi ThankYou points for high-value redemption ideas.

Also, if you book hotels or car rentals through Citi's travel portal, you may forfeit any elite status earnings and benefits. Many loyalty programs require direct bookings to recognize elite status and provide associated perks. Evaluate whether the benefits you would be giving up are worth it.

Finally, Citi Premier and Citi Prestige cardholders have exclusive benefits within the travel portal. Premier cardholders can enjoy $100 off a hotel stay of $500 or more once a calendar year, while Prestige cardholders can get a fourth night free on hotel stays of four nights or more twice a calendar year. If you're making an eligible hotel reservation, you'll see the option to use your available benefit on the payment screen.

citi prestige travel credit 2023

You'll also see the benefit(s) highlighted on the hotel search page if you have one of these cards. This includes information on how many more times your benefit can be used.

citi prestige travel credit 2023

If you don't see these benefits, check the top right corner of the portal and ensure your Premier or Prestige card is the active card for your searches.

Bottom line

Citi's revamped travel portal allows you to search and make travel reservations for flights, hotels, rental cars, and even tours and attractions. You can book travel up to a year in advance and pay using your Citi ThankYou points or any travel credit card .

Additionally, if you hold the Citi Premier or Citi Prestige, you can utilize your hotel benefits through the portal.

However, it's important to consider potential tradeoffs. Assess your elite status with hotel or rental car companies and determine if you might get better value by booking your travel through another platform. If convenience is your deciding factor, this user-friendly portal offers many results when planning your upcoming vacation.

Citi Prestige's $250 Travel Credit Isn't Limited to Travel in 2022

Update: Citi further extended the flexibility of the Citi Prestige ® Card $250 Travel Credit through 2022. However, this credit returned to only being valid for travel purchases as of January 1, 2023.

One of the principal benefits of the Citi Prestige ® Card is its annual $250 Travel Credit. Assuming you travel a couple of times per year, this credit is easy to use and effectively lowers the card's net annual fee to $245. However, when you can't travel, using this travel credit gets a little trickier.

Due to Covid-19 surges, most travelers are still traveling less than normal. So, to help Prestige Card cardholders utilize their credits, Citi added supermarkets and restaurants as qualifying uses for the travel credit in 2020. Citi extended this policy through 2021 and has now done so through 2022.

Continue to use your Citi Prestige travel credit at the grocery story

2022 Prestige Card Travel Credit Flexibility

Now through December 2022, Prestige Card holders can continue to redeem their $250 Travel Credit for purchases made at supermarkets and restaurants.

With the new year comes a new round of travel credits for Prestige Card ( review ) cardmembers. Now that Citi has extended the flexibility for this benefit, cardholders can effectively receive $250 worth of “free” groceries or restaurant meals. (“Free” in quotations as in you pre-paid for it with the card's annual fee.) This includes take-out or delivery, provided the restaurant processes the charge itself.

Like any category-specific credit or purchase (like travel, office supply stores, etc.), card-issuers rely on the registered merchant category to know what qualifies. If you want to double-check that a purchase will qualify as a ‘supermarket' or ‘restaurant', use our Merchant Category Lookup Tool .

CardArt-CitiPrestigeCard

  • $250 Travel Credit each calendar year
  • 5X points on air travel and at restaurants; and 3X points at hotels and on cruise line purchases
  • 4th Night Free when you book any eligible hotel through thankyou.com
  • Complimentary Priority Pass Select Membership
  • This card is no longer available to new applicants
  • 5X points on air travel, travel agencies, and at restaurants
  • 3X points at hotels and on cruise line purchases
  • 1X point per dollar on all other purchases

Bottom Line

In 2020, Citi allowed Prestige Card cardholders to use their annual $250 Travel Credit for purchases at supermarkets and groceries. When 2021 didn't look like things would return to normal, Citi extended this policy through 2021. Now that 2022 has arrived and we still aren't traveling like normal, the card issuer has decided to extend this benefit through 2022.

While I'm glad to see Citi continue to offer this added flexibility for its premium cardholders in 2022, I'm not overly surprised. People still aren't traveling like they did pre-Covid-19, so a “travel” credit isn't nearly as valuable as it once was. This added flexibility is a good way to provide continued value to cardmembers.

Moreover, I think these added categories fit the card's customer base perfectly. The Prestige Card is already one of the best credit cards for restaurant purchases . So, even if cardmembers don't buy many groceries, they should still easily receive full value in free meals.

Will you get full value from the Prestige Card‘s $250 Travel Credit in 2022?

Found this out the other day when I saw credit posted for delivery orders I used my Prestige for. Great they have continued to be more flexible with it even though was never a problem to use it.

' data-src=

This may be a stupid question, ad I’m unsure how well I understand the program described, but if the card’s annual travel credit is less than the card’s annual fee, aren’t you actually spending more money by using the card? (After all, I’ve never known a financial institution to simply give money away so easily, unless they were gaining much more in return elsewhere)

' data-src=

Yes, if the only value you get from the Prestige card is the $250 credit, the $495 annual fee isn’t a good deal. Key other benefits include Priority Pass, 4th Night Free on Hotels (2x per year) and 5X on dining. Those will need to make up the difference for this card to make sense to keep.

' data-src=

I really hope American Express will match! The airline fee credit is really difficult to spend.

' data-src=

I would recommend going on Flyertalk and look at ways you can “spend (wink wink)” the credit this year. I spent mine utilizing the United Credit Bank. There is a hack for each airline.

' data-src=

Nice of them to do that. I don’t have any citi cards but good to see when companies make favorable changes to help during the pandemic. Creates loyalty!

' data-src=

I like their move. Who ever came up with the idea was smart because this would keep customers, I believe. I have been looking at Citi but their transfer partners are without a hotel and the airlines are not interesting to me. I think at this time the partnership between JetBlue and American is important to me since you can transfer to JetBlue from MR and then I could use the points on American, once they have that option.

' data-src=

The “Merchant Category Lookup Tool” is an invaluable reference tool, thank you very much.

' data-src=

I second that. I also swear by the Reverse Lookup Tool.

' data-src=

I’ve been a reasonably heavy user of AW for some time, and I had no idea about the Lookup Tool. I’m going to say it must be a new offering, but really there’s enough content on the site that I easily could have missed it.

' data-src=

This is certainly a positive move on Citi’s part but given the steep annual fee, Citi should be providing some additional credits or benefits. Otherwise I don’t really see much value in the card. Its still $245 worth of fees for no usable benefit in 2021

' data-src=

I applaud them for allowing this. Hope other companies will follow suit, as some truly cannot travel until 2022 at the earliest.

' data-src=

I can’t really complain about this extension, but I do have a lot of cards with grocery or restaurant bonuses and I wish some issuer would bonus other categories.

Great extension of this benefit. Will have it used up shortly.

' data-src=

I think the changes are good because a lot of people will sure NOT be traveling this year (2021).

' data-src=

Smart and appreciated move. I think this is the right way to satisfy customers and keep them around.

How can you plan a trip with the Citi Prestige Card?

Aaron Wong

Enjoy complimentary lounge access, airport limo rides, travel insurance and the 4th night free on selected hotel stays with the Citi Prestige Card.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Citi Prestige Card in Singapore, and thanks to its wide range of lifestyle, travel and dining perks, it’s become a staple in the wallets of many affluent individuals.

That’s especially so now that travel has made a roaring comeback. If you’re planning to hit the road in the near future, here’s how a Citi Prestige Card can help enhance your trip from start to finish.

Read on to the end for more details on a 120,000 Points sign-up bonus for new Citi Prestige cardholders, available with a minimum spend of just $800, plus the opportunity to win a S$10,000 Trip.com voucher and save up to 50% off travel deals.

Book flights with 10 different frequent flyer programmes

Once you’ve decided where you want to go, the first step in your trip will probably be booking airplane tickets.

Citi Prestige Cardholders can transfer their Citi Points to 10 frequent flyer programmes (plus one hotel loyalty programme).

In addition to Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer and Cathay Pacific Asia Miles, Citi Points can also be converted to British Airways Executive Club, Air France-KLM FlyingBlue, Qatar Privilege Club and more. This provides additional flexibility when searching for award seats, since all three major airline alliances (Star Alliance, oneworld, SkyTeam) are represented.

Enjoy complimentary travel insurance

It’s never a good idea to travel without insurance, and Citi Prestige Cardholders receive complimentary travel insurance when they charge their round-trip air ticket to their card.

For avoidance of doubt, this includes situations where tickets are redeemed with miles, and the taxes/surcharges paid with the Citi Prestige Card.

For the eligibility criteria and full policy terms, definitions and conditions of coverage, do refer to the terms and conditions of the policy.

Get the 4th night free on hotel bookings

citi prestige travel credit 2023

With flights and travel insurance settled, the next step is looking for hotels.

One of the key perks of the Citi Prestige Card is the 4th Night Free benefit , which as the name suggests, gives you a free night on stays of four or more nights, with no black-out dates.

All 4th Night Free stays must be booked via the Citi Prestige Concierge, and need to be entirely prepaid at the time of booking. While this usually refers to non-refundable rates, refundable rates that require full prepayment can also be booked.

The rebate of one complimentary night will be made in the form of a statement credit up to 90 days from completion of full payment.

Here’s a simple illustration, based on a hotel where taxes & fees that add up to 10% of the nightly room rate. The cardholder receives a rebate of S$320 on his/her stay, which is the average room rate for nights 1-4, before taxes & fees.

Used judiciously, the 4th Night Free benefit alone can more than cover the annual fee, and so long as you instruct the Concierge to book via the hotel’s official website, you’ll still be eligible for elite night credit and hotel points with the relevant loyalty programme (based on the full four nights!).

Book overseas dining reservations and activities

Instead of stressing out over planning overseas dining and activities, why not let someone else do that for you? Citi Prestige Cardholders can seek the assistance of the Citi Prestige Concierge to:

  • Plan customised itineraries based on your interests and hobbies
  • Make dining reservations at Michelin-starred and other highly-rated restaurants
  • Procure hard-to-find items
  • Find a last-minute gift for a special celebration

This can be a lifesaver when navigating a city where you don’t speak the language, or where few restaurants accept online bookings (for example Tokyo).

Enjoy complimentary airport limo rides

citi prestige travel credit 2023

Heading to the airport? Don’t waste money on a cab- Citi Prestige Cardholders can enjoy two complimentary airport limo rides when they spend at least S$12,000 in qualifying spend in a calendar quarter, defined as:

  • Q1:  1 January to 31 March
  • Q2:  1 April to 30 June
  • Q3:  1 July to 30 September
  • Q4:  1 October to 31 December

All limo rides must be booked within the quarter they are earned although you can book the limo ride prior to meeting the qualifying spend, and take the ride whenever you wish (even outside that calendar quarter).

For example, a cardholder could book a limo ride on 15 April 2023 for any future date, and will get reimbursed for the expense provided he/she spends at least S$12,000 in qualifying spend from 1 April to 30 June 2023.

Unlimited airport lounge access (+1 guest)

citi prestige travel credit 2023

Regardless of what airline or cabin they choose to fly, Citi Prestige Cardholders can enjoy unlimited complimentary lounge access to more than 1,300 lounges in 600 cities worldwide, courtesy of Priority Pass. They can even invite a guest to join them in the lounge, at no additional charge.

For example, at Changi Airport, Priority Pass members can access the following lounges:

Priority Pass is much more than just lounges, however. Depending on airport, members can enjoy other perks such as:

  • dining credits
  • spa treatments
  • video game lounges

This helps make the airport experience as stress-free as possible.

Overseas golf games

For those of you who never miss an opportunity to play golf, even when on the road, Citi Prestige Cardholders enjoy complimentary golf games at the following overseas clubs:

When in Singapore, they can also enjoy free golf games at Sentosa Golf Club, Sembawang Country Club, and Marina Bay Golf Course.

Cardholders enjoy complimentary green fees at three local and three regional golf clubs per calendar year.

Get up to 120,000 Points with a new Citi Prestige Card

From now till 30 June 2023 , new Citi Prestige Cardholders can enjoy a welcome gift of 120,000 Points when they spend at least S$800 within two months of card approval, and pay the first year’s S$540 annual fee.

This offer is open to anyone who does not currently hold a Citi Prestige Card, and has not cancelled one in the past 12 months. For avoidance of doubt, existing Citi cardholders will also be eligible.

Qualifying spend

New cardholders must spend S$800 within the first 2 months of approval, otherwise known as the qualifying period.

The qualifying period for meeting the minimum spend runs from the approval date and two full calendar months following that. For example, those approved on 14 May 2023 will have until 31 July 2023 to meet the minimum spend. In other words, you actually have 2-3 months to hit the minimum spend, and should apply as early in the month as possible to maximise your time.

Qualifying spend excludes the following:

Enjoy up to 50% off travel flash deals with Citi Credit Cards

citi prestige travel credit 2023

Flights and hotel prices have recovered from their COVID-era slumps, and in some cases, can be even more expensive than before!

To take some of the sting out of this, from now  to 1 June 2023 Citi is offering special flash deals with up to 50% off flights, hotels and attractions with Klook, Trip.com and Expedia.

Promo codes are in very limited quantity (first 100 redemptions), and go live at 12 p.m on the 1st and 15th of every month.

This certainly reads like a VERY sponsored post – tone is so different from ‘normal’ ML posts. Admittedly this is declared at the top, but have to say it really sticks out like a sore thumb amongst the usual excellent writing. Guess Aaron has to make a living….:\

If you look at the above link you will see that this website is in fact NOT a charity. Of course the guy still has to make a living, particularly after over two years of practically non-existent travel as a travel website! I still found the post to be helpful and informative.

“The opinions remain those of The MileLion.”

Where are those opinions exactly?

Shawn

Omg asking the CP concierge to help you with any of the things listed is a TOTAL disaster. They are colossally useless like all Citi CSO I wouldn’t even trust them to tell me the time. Please assure me you didn’t write that bit with a straight face!!

Citi must have had a gun to your head with this one

Aaron Wong

If you have some specific examples can you send me (via contact us). It’s a rare opportunity to have a direct line to the product team so I want to make sure they get all this feedback on board. I’m also soliciting feedback from the telegram group- hopefully this will be a chance to get them to seriously consider areas of improvement too

cheesecake

Isn’t it the incompetence of the product team for not having trained their CSOs properly?

meh

The pre-paid on booking requirement is very annoying. In the city I am going, most of the properties only have pay later option.

Munger

I have a feedback . The prepayment requirement for 4th night free is annoying . I don’t like the idea of locking in my hotel stay

Oh another feedback but unrelated to prestige . Why does Citi pay all restrict payment limit on a monthly basis ? It’s annoying . My tax bill is 100k and my card limit is 10k . Transferring excess credit to my card so my card now has 50k of excess credit doesn’t get registered in the pay all limit check . Only way for me advised by cso is to apply for a perm credit increase

Dude if you have a 100k tax bill how on earth is your credit limit only 10k? I have a tax bill nearly five times lower and a credit limit five times higher! This should be very easy for you to fix (I believe you can even apply for the limit increase online!).

Steve

The CSO’s are certainly not up-to-par with other organisations. I had a case recently where I had 2 non-refundable bookings. One through Agoda and one through Citi Prestige. Same hotel. Same dates. Due to exceptional circumstances, the Agoda CSO negotiated with the hotel and was able to cancel the booking with a full refund. But not so Citi Prestige. OK, I have no grounds to take issue – the bookings were non-refundable. But Agoda negotiated an exception whereas Citi Prestige could/would not.

thanks for sharing- will add this pointer in as well. There were some issues with Citi CSOs providing customers with the wrong information regarding eligibility for the Prestige sign-up offer. That’s been flagged too for remedial action.

Happytreefriends

I agree this paints too good a picture of this card. I have it and I want to cancel it. The free 4 night is almost impossible to use now. Restrictions include: Room has a kitchen does not apply Cannot pre pay does not apply The word Suite is in the room description does not apply even though its a room for 2. Half board implies food is included (which only includes Breakfast) does not apply In short you will never be able to use this at any location in Maldives or Ski Resort. Tried using it to book a …  Read more »

thanks for sharing this, will add it to the consolidated feedback

Greg

Just to share this datapoint – hopefully it helps others, or if it is something Aaron could feedback as well. I just called the AIG hotline, the travel insurance provider for the card, and while they said that redemption tickets do qualify, they have to be redeemed round-trip as per the strict interpretation of the T&Cs. So in other words, you can’t book one-way redemption tickets on SQ into Amsterdam and out of Paris, as an example, even though it’s part of the same trip (and the SQ website does not allow multi-city redemption bookings as far as I’m aware).

Falco

What’s all this about flash deals and great giveaways? I have had Prestige and other Citi cards forever and spend heavily on them, yet the “get more” section of the app remains resolutely empty. Don’t remember ever having seen anything in the ever. 🙁

I don’t think great giveaways is targeted, but will check

Mads

I thought that the prestige card would come in handy for an upcoming trip. applied for the card around mid March. Application for the card was not straightforward for existing customers. You have to apply as a new customer even though there is a separate button for existing customers. instead of instant approval, received a rejection email a couple of days later. Seeing that I won’t be getting the card, I booked a 4 night hotel stay using another card, prepaid. On 1 or 2 April, I received a weird SMS on contact info update. On checking the app, saw …  Read more »

Citi to raise Global Entry statement credits to $120 for 2 cards

A pplying for Global Entry is getting more expensive, but a major credit card issuer is now boosting its Global Entry benefits for two popular travel cards.

On Thursday, Citi announced it would increase its Global Entry statement credits to $120 every four years for the Citi®/AAdvantage® Executive World Elite Mastercard® (see rates and fees ) and the Citi Prestige® Card .

The move comes just days after TPG was first to report that the price of applying for a five-year Global Entry membership would rise from $100 to $120 beginning in October. In announcing the fee hike, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, which oversees Global Entry, cited rising costs to operate the program.

The information for the Citi Prestige has been collected independently by The Points Guy. The card details on this page have not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer.

Offsetting the higher Global Entry fee

As valuable an option as Global Entry is for travelers, the application fee isn't a drop in the bucket. However, some travel credit cards will reimburse the fee when it comes time to apply.

But many of those cards' benefits include specified credits of up to $100 to cover the existing Global Entry expense. (Exact terms differ from card to card.)

CBP's fee hike planned for later this year opened the door for questions about whether card issuers might adapt their Global Entry benefits to account for the new, higher fee.

Now, Citi has done just that, ensuring Global Entry remains essentially a free perk for travelers who carry two of its high-end cards.

What citi cards are raising their global entry credit?

Starting on Oct. 1, 2024, Citi will raise its Global Entry fee statement credits for two cards: the Citi Prestige Card and the Citi/AAdvantage Executive World Elite Mastercard .

Citi/AAdvantage Executive World Elite Mastercard

Though the Citi/AAdvantage Executive card has a hefty $595 annual fee, it carries strong value for regular American flyers; it's the only card that provides complimentary Admirals Club access.

Cardholders can earn 4 AAdvantage miles for every dollar spent on American Airlines purchases and 1 AAdvantage mile for every dollar spent on other purchases. You'll earn Loyalty Points on everyday purchases, too, which helps you work your way toward AAdvantage elite status .

That's on top of other perks such as Lyft and Grubhub credits, as well as the Global Entry (or TSA PreCheck) statement credit once every four years; that credit will now rise from $100 to $120 for Global Entry applicants to cover the program's hiked fee.

Citi Prestige Card

Meanwhile, cardholders with the Citi Prestige card (no longer available to new applicants) can receive a TSA PreCheck or Global Entry enrollment fee credit every four years. As of October, that credit will likewise cover up to $120 for applications to the latter program.

The card carries a $495 annual fee.

What is Global Entry?

Global Entry provides travelers with an expedited trip through passport control following an international flight. It's available at 77 airports, most of which are in the U.S.; there's also a handful of international preclearance facilities.

The program also gives travelers access to the TSA PreCheck lanes at airport security checkpoints.

Though Global Entry applicants have faced delays in recent years, from long processing times to challenges finding an interview, wait times are improving for the vast majority of travelers, CBP insisted in a recent interview with TPG.

Bottom line

Now, all eyes will be on other credit card issuers to see if they will follow in Citi's footsteps and raise their Global Entry statement credits to account for the program's higher fee. The higher fee takes effect in October.

Because of the changes to make Global Entry more efficient and technologically advanced — not to mention the fact that children of members or applicants can apply for free as of October — it's a great time to consider joining. This is especially the case if the adults in your family can get their application costs reimbursed or offset through an eligible travel credit card.

Sights of Elektrostal, Moscow region

2024 Author : Harold Hamphrey | [email protected] . Last modified: 2023-12-17 10:06

In the Moscow region there is a small cozy town Elektrostal. Its sights for the most part have no historical value due to the fact that the city has a relatively small history. But for a visiting tourist or city dweller, they will be of interest. There is something to see, where to go to have an exciting leisure time.

Today the population of the city is 158 thousand people. Until the beginning of the 20th century there were several small workers' settlements here. After the opening of the electrometallurgical and equipment factories, the place began to be called the natural boundary of Calm. The construction of the railway made this settlement accessible, and workers and families flocked here to earn money. In 1925, the station was named Elektrostal, and the rapid increase in population allowed the village to receive the status of a city.

The founder of the city is a prominent Russian industrialist Nikolai Vtorov. It was he who opened the plant here, creating, in fact, a city-forming enterprise that is still operating. In Soviet times, it was a closed facility, and it was not easy to get to work here.

Today Elektrostal is a promising industrial city with a great future and a heroic past. It bears the proud name "City of Military and Labor Glory".

You can learn about the sights of Elektrostal with descriptions and photos here. There are places for walking, outdoor activities and cultural development.

sights of the electric steel of the Moscow region

Those who come to the city by train are met by a monument to the metallurgist. It was installed in November 2017 for the 100th anniversary of the Elektrostal plant. The attraction is made in the style of constructivism. The monument quickly won the love of the townspeople, because this city is supported by ordinary workers.

Elektrost altsy and the founding father of the plant, Nikolai Vtorov, are honored. In 2002, a monument was opened in honor of him, which became a landmark of the city of Elektrostal. The bronze sculpture is installed on the site where once stood a monument to the leader of the world proletariat, V. I. Lenin. Times change, characters change. Today, the plant, founded a century ago, is the largest in Russia. Vtorov himself, whose fortune was estimated at 60 million rubles in gold, according to Forbes magazine, was the owner of the largest capital at the beginning of the century. He was a banker, an industrialist, an entrepreneur, a man of action.

The monument was erected byinitiative of the townspeople who wished to perpetuate the monument to the great man.

One of the popular places for spending weekends and evenings among citizens and guests of the city is the Park of Culture and Leisure. Here you can ride attractions for children and adults, play slot machines, rollerblade or bike. The park is divided into two zones. Fans of unhurried walks in the fresh air make a promenade on the Quiet Alley, and those who prefer outdoor activities flock to the Entertainment Alley. The park has a summer stage, where concerts and cafes are regularly held.

Elektrostal attractions

Until 1999, there was no central museum among the attractions of Elektrostal in the Moscow Region. The expositions were exhibited in schools, the house of culture, in factory museums. The city was closed, so there was no large influx of tourists and visitors. The appearance of the historical and art museum made it possible for residents and guests of the city to learn a lot of useful information about their native land, the formation of the production process, and the difficult years of the war. The exposition consists of paintings by local artists, historical artifacts, household items, documents, books and much more. The collection is updated regularly. It also hosts outdoor exhibitions, which are always popular with the townspeople.

One of the main attractions of Elektrostal, the photo of which is available to almost every resident or visitor, is the Main Alley. On herpassers-by like to stroll along shady paths, townspeople rest by the fountain after a hard shift at the plant. Flower beds are the decoration of the alley. In 2006, a flower festival was held here for the first time, which has become traditional. Each enterprise of the city and private individuals give residents a real composition of fresh flowers, which pleases with bright colors all summer long. A riot of colors, aromas and a flight of fantasy reigns here. Walking through the park, you can see Snow White with a basket, a bright well, a multi-tiered cake made from fresh flowers, hearts of lovers or a fabulous house. It is almost impossible not to take a photo against the background of these compositions.

There is a cultural center in the city. It hosts performances by local creative teams and visiting stars, performances and circus performances.

In 1971, the ice palace "Crystal" was opened in the city. Almost immediately, a children's and youth hockey team was organized, which gained sports fame. This is the home sports arena for the Elektrostal hockey team. Matches of different levels are held on the ice.

There are sections for children who go in for hockey or figure skating. Citizens come here with their families to cheer for their favorite team or go ice skating.

Elektrostal is a city with a heroic past. During the war years, more than 12 thousand citizens came to the recruiting station and went to the front to defend their homeland. Almost 4 thousand of them did not return from the battle. To these heroesdedicated to the memorial complex with the inextinguishable Eternal Flame, opened in 1968

But the electricians took part in the war in Afghanistan and Chechnya. By decision of the city authorities, their memory is also immortalized in the memorial complex.

It has become a good tradition for newlyweds to lay flowers at this monument.

attractions of the city of Elektrostal

In 1999, a museum and exhibition complex was opened in the city, where, in addition to the exhibition hall, there are numerous circles for children, classes for young people, and a creative workshop. Various festivals, exhibitions, city holidays and other events are held within the walls and on the territory of the complex, which attract many spectators.

Elektrostal attractions

Listing the sights of Elektrostal, it is impossible not to mention the temples. There are several of them in the city: the church of St. John of Kronstadt, St. Andrew's Church, the hospital church of St. Panteleimon. Another new church is being built. In appearance, the temples look ancient, monumental, in the Novgorod style. But they were all built at the end of the 20th century.

Let there be no ancient artifacts among the sights of Elektrostal. But on the other hand, all of them are connected with the history of the city, with everyday work and military exploits of ordinary residents.
