The Hutongs

While the high-rise glamour of modern Beijing dominates the skyline, the hutongs are the lifeblood of the city. Beijing gets a swanky new hotel

China's capital just got injected with a fresh dose of luxury, with the opening of W Beijing - Chang'an.  Located in the heart of the city, on Chang'an Avenue, the hotel is not far from landmarks such as Tiananmen Square, the Summer Palace, the Forbidden City and the National Centre for the Performing Arts.

Here's what you'll find at the hotel:

 A total of 349 guestrooms and suites with state-of-the-features such as a Bluetooth sound system, digital tablets controlling the room's lighting, and a Mix Bar (W Hotels' version of a minibar)

Restaurants such as The Kitchen Table (international cuisine) and Yen (Chinese).

Two lounge bars: X25 and W Lounge

 A 24-hour in-room dining service

A heated indoor pool, Away Spa and the FIT gymnasium

The W Store shopping centre

A 1,500sqm events space

To celebrate its opening, the hotel is offering the Ready to Rock package. With this, guests can stay in a Wonderful Room at rates starting from CNY1,288 (Rs13,000). The offer is valid for stay till 30 April 2015. Blackout dates may apply.

Tell us a little bit about yourself. How did you find your way to Condé Nast?

I have been working in human resources since I graduated from college, almost 20 years ago and joined Condé Nast China 15 years ago. At that time, our business and the team in the China Market was gradually expanding since it was established in 2005. I got the opportunity to join the people team in the Shanghai office and have been working here ever since.

How do you describe your job to friends and family?

I am responsible for all things related to people☺

Lunar New Year is approaching soon, what does this holiday mean to you and how do you plan to celebrate?  

A key word of Chinese Spring Festival to celebrate Lunar New Year is reunion. We usually have a nice family dinner with our parents and siblings on New Year’s Eve to share all expectations and meaningful things throughout the year. I will continue with this tradition for Lunar New Year!

Reflecting on 2023, what is a project that you worked on that you are most proud of? 

In 2023, Condé Nast China kicked off our top talent project. As a human resources business partner, I worked with different departments to identify each team's top talents and participated in discussions to promote the talent development plan. This is a very important project for the company to retain and develop talents. I am very proud to be part of it.

What is something you would like to do more of in 2024?

From the company's perspective, we hope to have more outputs in new businesses. I hope that I can assist business departments achieve this goal successfully.

As part of the HR team, how does Condé Nast China attract and retain top talent in the competitive media landscape?

We keep paying attention to both internal and external benchmarks so that we can maintain a competitive position in the market.

How does Condé Nast China foster a diverse and inclusive workplace? Could you share any stories to the global Condé Nast community?

In November of 2023, we were providing our managers with the training and resources to enact behavioral change, build empathy and ensure a workplace where we all treat each other with dignity and respect. 

We arranged two inclusive leadership offline training workshops for all leaders and managers in the Beijing and Shanghai offices in China. It was the first time we launched the diversity and inclusion (D&I) offline training in the China market. The workshop was very successful and teams expressed their thoughts and understanding on D&I in an open and trusting environment. People received more in-depth knowledge of the importance of diversity and inclusion and had more insights about how diversity fosters innovation and creates high-performing teams.
