These speeds assume that the form of transportation is not under the effect of the Speed or Slowness status effects if they can be.

  • ↑ a b Multiply the value by 8 to get the Overworld equivalent when doing this in the Nether.
  • ↑ Divide by 3 to get kilometres per game day, or by 6 to get kilometres per half-day (from dawn to sunset)
  • ↑ Boat acceleration takes 9.4 seconds— the difference in time between a running start and not, is halved, or 4.7 seconds.
  • ↑ a b c d e f g h i j k l m n o p In the Nether, water cannot be placed without the use of commands or glitches in past versions.
  • ↑ Horses vary in speed. They are the fastest method of land transportation on open but unprepared terrain.
  • ↑ The swimming speeds are not affected by Swiftness potions. The surface speed refers to "skimming" across the top of the water by holding the spacebar.
  • ↑ Underwater refers to any part of the body submerged in water and walking on flat terrain. The Player travels the same speed regardless of if the water is 1 block deep or 2 (in observed cases).
  • ↑ Data based on https://youtu.be/PuXX2zkEs48?t=178 .
  • ↑ Data based on https://youtu.be/nNm5mOeH4pE .
  • ↑ Data based on https://youtu.be/ySREkWjks6A .
  • ↑ Flying speed can be varied.
  • ↑ Data based on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=79Cqxz1-2f8 .
  • ↑ Values are faster than those listed if the player has the Slow Falling status effect.
  • ↑ it is technically possible below; however, the size between the roof of the Nether and the floor is 124 blocks, meaning that it would take less than 2 seconds to go down. Also, achieving speed requires either using rocket boost, or starting above the roof.

Effects [ ]

Using status effects from potions or beacons , walking and sprinting speeds become competitive with other methods of transportation.

Each additional level of Speed allows the player to walk at nearly the sprinting speed of the previous level, and sprinting with Speed II is only slightly slower than a minecart at full speed or a boosted pig . With adequate food and potion supplies, sprinting can be more cost-effective than building high-speed transportation systems.

Commands [ ]

Using the / effect command , extremely high or low speeds become reachable. At exceedingly high levels (100+), the player moves faster than the chunks can load.

Vertical transportation [ ]

There are some examples of purely vertical transportation methods:

  • ↑ The player can jump up a distance of 1  1 ⁄ 4 blocks. With Jump Boost I, that increases to 1  15 ⁄ 16 blocks, and with Jump Boost II, that increases to 2  1 ⁄ 2 blocks.

Falling speed is more complex : Every tick ( 1 ⁄ 20 second), non-flying players and mobs have their vertical speed decremented (less upward motion, more downward motion) by 0.08 blocks per tick (1.6 m/s), then multiplied by 0.98. [note 1] This would produce a terminal velocity of 3.92 blocks per tick or 78.4 m/s. However, the sky isn't quite high enough for that: Falling from layer 256 to bedrock takes about 5.5 seconds, with impact at 3.5 blocks per tick (70 m/s). It is possible to fly higher in Creative mode, or by flying with elytra and then removing them, reaching terminal velocity falling from "above the sky".

  • ↑ Horses have their vertical speed multiplied by 0.98 a second time in the same tick. This may or may not apply to some other mobs.

An exact function to calculate the speed of a (free)falling player is the following:

{\displaystyle v(t)={\frac {392}{5}}\times ({\frac {98}{100}}^{\left\lfloor 20t\right\rfloor }-1)}

An exact function to calculate the displacement of the player is the following:

{\displaystyle d(t)=392\times ({\frac {1}{2}}-{\frac {1}{5}}t-{\frac {1}{2}}\times {\frac {49}{50}}^{\left\lfloor 20t\right\rfloor })}

An approximate function to calculate the time it takes to fall from some height is the following:

{\displaystyle t(d)=1000-5.102d+989.960\times W_{-1}(-0.36786e^{0.0051538d})}

Other modes of transportation [ ]

  • It is possible to construct complex flying machines using pistons, blocks of redstone , slime blocks , and honey blocks .
  • If the player has already defeated the ender dragon , and is near a stronghold / end portal , they can enter and exit the End to instantly be transported to their bed or spawn point without dying.
  • Explosion knockback can send an adjacent player flying for a short distance, depending on the strength of the explosion. This is not recommended in Survival mode .
  • It is possible to mount minecarts and boats as long as they are within 4-5 blocks (inclusive) from the player. Placing these in a straight line allows for extremely fast transport. This also works with saddled pigs , provided they stay in position (placed on posts).

Achievements [ ]

Advancements [ ], history [ ].

Issues relating to "Transportation" are maintained on the bug tracker . Report issues there .

Sprinting with Soul Speed 3 on soul sand while having Speed 2 is almost as fast as the fastest possible horse breed (12.6896 m/sec).

The 5 fastest ways to travel in Minecraft

Image of Radiant G

Minecraft  is one of those games where you could play for 1,000 hours on the same file and still have so much unseen ground to cover. Open world and sandbox games are great, but sometimes you want to set up camp in two locations that are nowhere near each other.

Walking back and forth, in this case, would take too long, and if you are in vanilla singleplayer Minecraft, there is no way to teleport. That said, there are some faster alternatives to traveling on foot. Here are the 5 fastest ways to travel in Minecraft.

boat

If we are talking straight-up speed, nothing in Minecraft is faster than a boat at full speed. If the distance between your two locations is mostly or entirely water, this method will easily get you there and back in a reasonable amount of time. If only a bit of land stands in your way, you may even want to dig a canal. A boat is the easiest traveling system to acquire because it is built just with 5 wood planks of the same color. The boat will also be that color.

Horse

If your journey mostly consists of land and not a regular trip, you plan to retake time and time, the best choice for you would be a Horse. To control a horse, you must both tame it, and own a saddle. Saddles can be found in various chests such as those inside dungeons and mineshafts. If you want your horse to stay in place without a stable, you’ll also want to own a lead (and a fence post). This can be made with a slimeball and string, or take from the Wandering Trader. If you want to bring extra items, the alternative of a donkey is also a good choice.

3. Minecart

Minecart

This one takes some set-up, so be sure that the journey will be a repeat one, or else it isn’t worth it. First, you are going to need rails : basic rails, charged rails, and redstone torches. You will lay down your track spacing out the charged rails at a 7-block distance, and activate them by placing down redstone torches next to them. (Activator rails are also okay) Place down your minecart and let your automated travel system do the work. Enter the cart, walk away, and come back on the other side.

4. Nether Portal

Portal

This one is a little bit tricky, but figuring it out is worth your while. If you are traveling a long distance (think 1,000+ blocks away) in the overworld and have a nether portal back home, build another nether portal at your new location. The two nether portals will be closer to each other in the nether than in the overworld because the nether is smaller. While the nether can be dangerous, if you figure out a clear path, traveling there is much faster. Some even set up their Minecart rail in the nether for this reason.

One of the newest mobs in the game is the  Strider . Like the horse, you will need a saddle to ride a Strider, and like a pig, you will need its favorite treat on a stick to control it. Warped Fungus on a stick is crafted from one warped fungus and one fishing rod. While these friends are slow on land, they are fast on lava. If you want to explore the Nether or safely traverse its lava ocean, Striders are the form of travel for you. And again, be sure to bring a lead and a fence post.

The Fastest Ways to Get Around in Survival Minecraft

The Fastest Ways to Get Around in Survival Minecraft

It’s no secret that Minecraft worlds are huge – virtually infinite, in fact – and it can be tedious and frustrating travelling long distances to get to places.

That’s why we’ve come up with a guide to tell you about some of the best methods of transportation in Minecraft which you might not even be aware of. Without further ado, let’s jump straight into it.

Dolphin’s Grace

When it comes to oceans in Minecraft, you may think that the fastest way to travel across them is by using a boat, but it actually isn’t. Though using a boat is faster than normal swimming, if you can find a dolphin to swim alongside you and give you the Dolphin’s Grace status buff, you’ll be able to glide through the water faster than if you were in a boat. You won’t always find dolphins swimming around, so this method is situational, but if you do find one then you’re in luck.

Additionally, if you manage to snag a dolphin to give you Dolphin’s Grace while wearing boots with the Depth Strider enchantment on them, you’ll be able to travel even faster! Depending on the enchantment level of the boots you’re wearing, you may be able to travel twice, thrice, or even four times as fast as normal, which is crazy! The Dolphin’s Grace + Depth Strider III combo is insane to the point where you’ll be going so fast you may even struggle to control your character. It’s awesome.

Nether Travel

If you need to travel across a super long distance in the overworld, it makes sense to consider nether travel, which is a method of using portals to enter and leave the nether to cut down on travel time in the overworld. This works because for every block you travel in the nether, you travel 8 blocks in the overworld, essentially cutting down your travel time to one-eighth of what it would be normally.

In Minecraft, boats travel really fast on water, but even faster on ice, which is a mechanic that the ice road takes advantage of. By building a long road made entirely of ice with barriers on either side to keep you on it, you can get in a boat and travel at speeds of up to around 70 blocks per second, which is incredibly fast. The only downside to this method is that you need to actually build the road first. If there’s a trip you need to make regularly though in your survival world, then it may very well pay off to build an ice road.

It’s also worth noting that the slipperier the ice is, the faster you’ll travel, so for the best results, you'll want to use blue ice. Blue ice is rare though and can be expensive to buy from wandering traders, so there’s no harm in using regular or packed ice if you’re on a budget.

Minecraft Survival Base

Ultimately, nothing beats the horse when it comes to travelling over terrain that hasn’t had a special road or track built on it. These animals are fast, reliable, and offer plenty of manoeuvrability, so it’s useful to have one if you’re planning on travelling relatively short distances across rough land. They can even jump quite high, which is great for crossing gaps or climbing steeper terrain.

One thing to note about horses though is that every horse is different, meaning some are slow and don’t jump very high, whilst others are incredibly quick and agile. Be sure to have a look around for a good horse in your minecraft survival server world and don’t just stick with the first one you come across in the wild as there will likely be better ones nearby.

Ender Pearls

Whenever you throw an ender pearl somewhere, you teleport to the place where it lands, making it an incredibly useful tool for travelling across long distances. One of the biggest downsides though is that you take 5 points of damage every time you teleport, so you can’t use them too many times in a row otherwise you’ll lose all your hearts and die. Fortunately, though, there’s a way around this.

If you equip armour that’s been enchanted with Protection or Feather Falling, you can negate the damage you take every time you use an ender pearl. This means that you can teleport over and over again as much as you like. Pretty awesome, right?

One last thing about ender pearls is that they can be quite rare to find early on in the game, so getting enough of them to travel efficiently isn't really possible until you reach the End and set up an enderman farm.

Minecraft Survival Bar Base

Perhaps the most exciting form of transportation on Minecraft 1.17 survival servers is using elytra wings, which let you fly around the world to your heart’s desire so long as you don’t run out of fireworks. That’s right, fireworks can be used to propel yourself forwards while wearing the elytra, and more powerful fireworks have a stronger effect, so be sure to craft the bigger ones if you want to reach top speeds.

Unfortunately, elytra wings aren’t available until the very end of the game after you beat the ender dragon and find an end city with a end ship in it. It’s a shame really because it would be cool to be able to fly around earlier in the game, but nonetheless, it's a great reward bestowed upon only the bravest and most daring Minecraft adventurers – or those that have access to creative mode.

Survival Base in Minecraft

PUBLISHED 2 YEARS AGO

With the brand new Minecraft 1.19 update, the Wild Update comes with various new and unique blocks, mobs, and more. In Minecraft, players can roam all three dimensions to find new things, new biomes to explore, and new mobs to encounter. Being a sandbox game, Minecraft’s map of the world is almost endless—stretching by a million chunks and going as far as your feet will take you in the Overworld, the Nether, and the End.

5 Quickest Ways To Travel in Minecraft 1.19

To progress in the game and complete the storyline, players must travel far and wide to discover some of the rarest structures and obtain some of the most precious loot. Hence, this is where your mode of transport will come in handy. Walking or sprinting is the most basic way to go about the world. However, other ways are more convenient for the players, especially when traveling through a thousand miles of blocks at a time. As running is not the most efficient and fastest travel, we have compiled a list that will break down the top 5 quickest ways you can travel in Minecraft 1.19.

5. Powered rail minecarts

1 35

One of the oldest and basic ways to fast travel, especially long distances, in the game is to build an extensive railway system using Redstone and powered rails with minecarts as your mode of transportation. In Minecraft, there are several kinds of rails (Redstone powered and non-powered rails) that you can place on top of blocks in any direction you choose, and you can connect these rails to create a railway for your minecart, similar to how rails work with trains in real life.

Once you have everything set up and ready to go, you can create multiple stations where you will stop and start the minecarts. The same minecart can be pushed ahead at regular intervals even without the players doing anything to move it using the help of powered rails. This minecart method is one of the most tried and tested methods to fast travel in the game, and although it is not as fast as the other methods, it is still better than simply walking anywhere. The good news is that you can use this minecart method in all three dimensions of Minecraft.

4. Nether portals

1 36

It has always been quite tricky to travel far across the Overworld through the Nether portal and into the Nether. To those who might not know, whenever a player walks about one block in the Nether, they walk about eight blocks in the Overworld in the same direction. So to travel further in the Overworld quickly, instead of navigating your way across the world in the Overworld, you can easily build multiple nether portals in all directions of the Nether to fast travel from one location to the other in the Overworld.

However, there is a downside to this nether portal method: you have to build the portal as far away from each other in the Nether as possible. This is because if you are close enough to your original nether portal and create another one in your current location, you will be transported back into the same nether portal from when you came in.

3. Soul sand with soul speed enchantment

1 37

The soul speed enchantment is a special enchantment that can only be applied on a player’s boots and can only be obtained by looting treasure chests inside a bastion remnant or as a random drop from bartering with piglins in the Nether. The soul speed enchantment can help players walk and run faster on top of soul sand or soul soil blocks. Walking on soul sand or soul soil blocks greatly reduces a player’s movement speed.

This method is another way the player can travel faster in the game, whether they use it in the Nether or transport some soul soil blocks in the Overworld and create pathways from there. Hence, this specific enchantment is extremely useful. The only downside to this method is that to make this work, you will need to obtain the soul speed enchantment first, which is quite hard to obtain on its own, and then equip it on the boots you are wearing.

2. Ice bridge boat

1 40

In Minecraft, whenever players walk on top of ice blocks, they will immediately notice that it is quite slippery and thus can run faster on it while sliding around when they stop running. So if you collect ice blocks using a pickaxe with the sill touch enchantment and place the down ice blocks down on the ground in an alternative manner, then rowing your boat on them will be much quicker than rowing your boat on the water. And over the years, many players have used this in-game mechanic to devise a method wherein they use boats instead to slide around at crazy speeds and travel a thousand blocks at a time.

1. Rocket-powered elytra

1 41

By now, almost all players know that the elytra are probably one of the most overpowered equipment players can get their hands on during their gameplay. The elytra is a super rare item that can only be obtained hanging from a picture frame inside an end ship that floats next to an end city in the outer islands of the End.

Over the years, players have gradually discovered that using firework rockets along with the elytra will boost themselves up from the ground and allow them to fly at high speeds. The player can then wear the elytra if they replace their chest plate armor with it, allowing them to glide down from any high altitude. However, there is another way to make better use of the elytra than simply gliding.

So with the combination of the elytra and the firework rockets, players can fly anywhere they want and travel long distances in the blink of an eye. Hence this is why it is still considered to be the fastest and best mode of transportation in Minecraft 1.19. The only downside to this method is that players will most likely need a decent supply of firework rockets to keep flying with the elytra, so creating a creeper farm of your own should be the next best choice if you want to harvest lots of gunpowder.

7 Fastest Ways To Travel Long Distances In Minecraft 1.19

Muhammad Kumar - Aug 31, 2022 | PC/Console

Traveling is pretty much the most tedious part of Minecraft - players might want to cut it down as much as possible with these 7 methods.

  • How To Find And Use Bells In Minecraft 1.19
  • 5 Useful Enchantments To Explore The Deep Dark In Minecraft 1.19
  • Minecraft 1.19: Most Useful Blocks To Get In The Nether

Minecraft is a big open world and players will spend most of their time moving around in game. As inventory space is limited, inexperienced players might have to waste time moving back and forth between their base and where they gather resources.

In this article, Gurugamer is going to show case the 7 fastest ways to travel long distances in Minecraft 1.19.

Table of Contents

1. riding horses, 2. riding donkey/mules and llamas, 3. flying with elytra, 4. minecarts, 5. boats and ice roads, 6. nether portal, 7. soul sand + soul speed boots.

This is probably the easiest method that you can do immediately in the early game. Horses can be found in plain and savanna biomes and can be tamed by mounting them until they produce heart particles.

Minecraft Horses

However, there is a bit of randomness involved - players need to acquire a saddle from village chests in order to control horses.

Donkeys are nearly identical to horses, however, they exchange slower speed with the ability to carry items. The extra 15 slots allow players to gather more resources to transfer to their base. Players can breed donkeys with horses to create mules, which retain the ability to carry chests but has higher speed.

Llama Food

Llamas are useless for moving around from place to place, but they can carry a lot of items in chests. If players want to gather a lot of resources for structures, a llama convoy can definitely solve this problem.

The Elytra wings are a high-end item that only spawns in end ships, which in turn can be found hovering over end cities. Those cities are on the outer end islands, 1000 blocks away from the central end island. The player can get to the outer end islands through the End gateway, which can only be accessed after defeating the Ender Dragon.

6 Elytra Flight

The Elytra's ability to fly depends on its durability, as it decreases by one point each second when gliding. A pair of Elytra has 432 durability, which equates to 7 minutes and 12 seconds of gliding. This results in about 10,000 blocks of distance.

Minecarts and rails are probably one of the best systems to use if players want to connect their bases. They transport players and entities without the need for any input, however, players need to create a rail system to the location first.

Minecart With Furnace Ingame

It is quite expensive to create a longer rail system - players need 6 iron ingots and a stick to get 16 rails. An iron golem farm is a must have if you want to get enough resources.

Powered rails are even more expensive - they require gold ingots instead of iron, and players also need to add one piece of redstone dust. They are the best to use on your rail lines, as powered rails have the ability to increase the speed of a moving minecart in the direction it is already moving.

Sliding on ice roads with a boat is actually one of the fastest methods of travel in the game. When boats are on any variant of ice blocks, they can be controlled as easily as if they were in water, and can travel at immense speeds thanks to the slippery nature of the ice.

Ice Bridge

The speed of the boat can be changed based on the ice variant the player use. Normal ice is the slowest, with packed ice being in the middle, and blue ice being the fastest option.

The Nether portal is actually an easy method to literally teleport between bases. Whenever a player walks about one block in the Nether, they walk about eight blocks in the Overworld in the same direction. This means a combination of the Nether portal with any of the other transportation methods can allow players to travel between bases in the Overworld at 1/8 the time.

Nether Portal

The downside of this method is that it is fairly costly. Players need a lot of resources to create multiple nether portals and connect them together.

Soul Sand is a special block in the Nether that slows players' movement speed. However, if they have a pair of boots enchanted with soul speed, this debuff is reversed. Players can move 61.5% faster on Soul Sand with Soul Speed III (compared with moving on the normal ground).

Soul Sand

Therefore, to make this work, players only need to build a 1-block-wide road from point A to point B with Soul Sand/Soil and just sprint on it with the 60% extra speed.
