Best experience in getting holiday insurance

It was so easy to tell the call handler what I wanted and then they went through it with me answered a few questions along the way and paid for my insurance.

Date of experience : February 28, 2024

Very easy quote service to use

Very easy quote service to use, comprehensive policy. Could be less expensive, however, this is true of most insurances. I would recommend to friends and family.

Date of experience : February 16, 2024

.A surprise recommendation from a friend

I would not have found this company advertised Thanks to a friend who used it and passed his experiencebonto me. Easy to navigate the website. Comprehensive lists of benefits compared to any others. Generous benefits. No age cut off barrier.

Date of experience : February 14, 2024

Easy to navigate on line.

Once got over the different ways to contact and using my computer able to buy at a reasonable rate for my holiday. Older less savvy people may need some help with such things as a QR code but managed ok. Why people can't send Letters I don't understand but then I'm an old Git.

Date of experience : October 16, 2023

Good customer service

Got through to an advisor almost immediately over the telephone. Lady was very helpful and able to assist me in buying a policy over the phone. Good price and cover compared to other companies.

Date of experience : January 24, 2024

Friendly, knowledgeable and comprehensive service

Very helpful agent dealing with my call. Took my health details accurately, understanding the related issues and providing explanations of complex questions when asked for. Free Spirit can provide proper cover where others can't - albeit at a price! (which is why I can only give 4 stars, rather than 5).

Date of experience : September 11, 2023

Free Spirit = First Class

I only wish I could remember the wonderful, helpful and kind lady I spoke with who helped me navigate insurance for my disabled husband . Her empathy and understanding was so touching I felt like I was talking to an old friend. The quote was pretty brilliant too! Wouldn’t go anywhere else now .

Excellent service from Neil he was patient explaining every element for me as we navigated my holiday insurance so very well done and thank you once again.

Date of experience : March 24, 2024

Very straight forward.

As an 88 years old woman with osteoporosis and no life threatening conditions this broker is a dream. Very straight forward process. Spoke to an agent for under 20 minutes and affordable quotation for Europe.

I’ve used Free Spirit for several years for our travel insurance and they offer great cover at a good price.

Date of experience : March 09, 2024

It takes time to book, so be patient

The person who took my phone call started by telling me from the start, telling me that it would take between 20 to 30 minutes and asked if I was comfortable enough to go through the process.

Date of experience : January 29, 2024

Exorbitant extra charge

I received the documents from you this morning and after reading it I rang your office to say that I would be taking a walking stick just in case I needed in and your representative told me that you will increase my payment by over £35 , which seems exorbitant. Next time I go on holiday later this year I shall certainly not use your services.

Reply from Free Spirit Travel Insurance

Dear Mrs Cutland I hope this message finds you well. Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback, regarding the recent update to your medical declaration and the associated additional premium. Your satisfaction is of utmost importance to us, and we appreciate the opportunity to address your concerns. We understand that any changes to your policy, especially those resulting in an additional premium, can be frustrating. Please accept our sincere apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused. Whilst we wouldn’t usually record the use of mobility aids, unfortunately the medical condition declared asks this specifically, therefore we have needed to declare it. As part of our duty of care, it is essential for us to keep your policy up to date with the most accurate information, including any medical changes. If the policy is not updated to reflect the changes, it could result in a claim being refused or declined. If you feel we have misunderstood the situation, please feel free to reach out to us directly, and we will do our utmost to find a resolution. Yours Sincerely Jonathan Swatton Customer Service Manager

Big trip quote for seniors.

I’ve used Free Spirit several times for my annual big trip to New Zealand hence I know that they’re not going to quote me mega bucks because I’m getting old and have a medical condition. That’s good to start with. The Person I dealt with was calm and polite and patiently took me through the survey and I was pleased with the cost. It not cheap cheap but I have confidence that I have purchased the cover that I need.

Good comprehensive travel insurance for those with medical conditions

I like free spirit as they offer travel insurance for those of us with complex health conditions to travel abroad. They made my experience booking with them as straight forward as it could be at a decent price given the medical conditions etc. I feel very reassured I can now travel with more peace of mind thankyou!

Helpful staff. Good for older active people.

Helpful staff. Happy to ensure older people. Only marked down one star because of the cost, although this is in-line with other company policies for active older people. Quick to answer policy query.

I filled in all the medical details for…my son

I filled in all the medical details for my son with the online form, and then I could not find how to pay!! So, I phoned up, the phone was answered quickly and the lady I spoke to was very pleasant and dealt with the payment efficiently.

Date of experience : January 03, 2024

Efficient service and reasonable quote.

Did this online but needed help as there was a problem with my filling in. A quick phone call promptly answered quickly sorted that out. The price was less than another quote, so all in all very impressed.

Date of experience : February 21, 2024

All done on line.

I was able to arrange my travel insurance on line without hanging on the phone but it needed a lot of detail and some concentration. The cost seems high but was competitive with others available. I hope I won't have any claims experience!

Date of experience : October 20, 2023

Easy and quite quick procedure

Easy and quite quick procedure. Clerk had lots of patience in obtaining the information required from me! Second clerk (male this time) before taking my payment, went through the cover in great detail again with a degree of genuine patience - this was much appreciated.

No age limit on Annual Travel Insurance Policy. Free Spirit highly recommended to me by several friends. Staff were very courteous and extremely efficient in handling my application. The person I spoke to could not have been more helpful or patient helping me to complete my application particularly about personal health aspects of it. However my final judgement of any insurance company will be whether they are as courteous, understanding and helpful if I have to make a claim. The initial conversation made me optimistic that they would be.

Cancelling travel insurance because of change in plans

I had renewed my yearly travel insurance which was due to start on 8th February but since then my travel plans have been altered and it is unlikely that I will travel until the end of the year. My phone call to cancel was handled quickly and pleasantly by your representative. I look forward to resuming my insurance with yourselves in the future.

Patrica was most helpful. She helped me fill out my form for travel insurance with you. When I rang back to take out the insurance your other staff members were just as helpful in tweaking the dates and confirming the insurance cover. I shortly received my cover by email. Thank you, Christine.

Helpful person on fone- online form not seamless for me

I spoke to a very helpful person about the counties covered, who confirmed I couldn’t pay over the phone and about why I couldn’t get to payment I must have not ticked something. Could just be me I’m not very tec savvy but I had saved my form and then had to go back to edit and had to go back and forth lots of times and keep filling in my name and date of birth again (although it had saved the medical details previously entered) Happy with the cost of the cover and the insurance benefits especially as I have quite a few medical issues.

On the 1st of April we moved Free Spirit to new Insurers (Watford Insurance Company Europe Limited) through Managing General Agents Bspoke who have been working with the company for many years across multiple insurance schemes.

Unfortunately, on the 5th of April Watford advised Bspoke and in turn us that unfortunately one of the insurance classes necessary to write travel insurance was missing from their permissions with the Financial Conduct Authority. As a consequence, they are now having to apply to have this added which means that Free Spirit sales have had to be paused until this is resolved. Any policies issued up to that point are not affected.

This has been totally outside of the control of P J Hayman and Company. We are working to resolve the situation with Bspoke and Watford and in the meantime will provide quotations and cover using a range of facilities available to us.

Frequently Asked Questions

There follow some commonly asked questions to give you more information about Free Spirit Travel Insurance and the cover offered. If you have a question that is not answered below, please reach out using the options on the contact us page.

Please use the options at the top to explore each section. Each question can be expanded in turn by clicking on it.

Why do I need cover for existing medical condition(s)?

Medical costs abroad can be very expensive especially if you have to be repatriated home. Without appropriate insurance cover you could be left severely out of pocket. You must therefore read the ‘Medical Warranty’ that is shown as you progress through this website in getting a quote and to accurately declare all medical conditions. If you give incorrect answers or forget to tell us about a medical condition, this could lead to a claim not being paid.

I already have a policy but have recently been diagnosed with a new medical condition, what should I do?

If there is a change in health of anyone insured under an existing policy you must contact our Medical Screening Service on   02392 419 080   as soon as possible. We will tell you if your change in health will affect your insurance and if cover can continue.

If your health changes after you purchased your policy but before you commence your trip (or in the case of Annual Multi-trip cover before booking your next trip) or pay the balance or any further instalments for your trip, you must tell us about these changes, if:

• new medication or a change in regular medication has been prescribed;

• there has been a deterioration of a previously stable condition;

• you have been referred to a specialist;

• A medical symptom/condition is being investigated; or

• you are awaiting treatment/consultation

We will then tell you if we can cover your medical condition(s) free of charge or for an additional premium.

If we cannot cover your medical condition(s), or you do not want to pay any additional premium quoted, we will give you the choice of either:

• making a cancellation claim for any pre-booked trips; or

• cancelling your policy and receiving a proportionate/partial refund, provided that you have not made a claim or are about to.

A change in health includes any changes to your health which you are aware of and for which you may need to seek professional medical advice, any new medical conditions or symptoms which may or may not yet have been diagnosed, changes to any existing medical condition already declared or a change to your treatment or prescribed medication (which can include a change in dosage which may be an increase or decrease in the amount of medication that you take) or you are waiting for tests or test results, or have been placed on a medical waiting list.

If you are not sure whether something is relevant you must tell us anyway.

What existing medical condition(s) do I need to declare?

So that you (and anyone to be insured under Free Spirit) can be covered for existing medical condition(s), you must include all relevant medical history as shown below.

A: Any treatment in the last 5 years (including prescribed medication) for: – any respiratory condition (relating to the lungs or breathing), any heart or heart related condition, any circulatory condition (relating to the blood or circulation), any kidney or renal condition, any liver condition, any condition relating to the pancreas e.g. diabetes, any cerebral or neurological condition (relating to the brain), any type of cancer, any type of stroke, any central nervous system disorder, irritable bowel disease, any psychiatric or psychological conditions.)

B: Any surgery, inpatient or outpatient treatment, any tests or investigations in a hospital or clinic or any specialist consultation within the last 2 years.

C: Any prescribed medication for any medical condition in the last 2 years.

Can I buy a policy if I have a terminal condition?

We cannot cover terminal conditions on this website as we need to provide you with an individual assessment. Please contact us on 02392 419 080 and we will discuss your requirements to see if cover can be provided.

I am on a waiting list for treatment/investigation, can I apply for cover?

Yes, if you are waiting for medical tests or treatment of any description you can generate a quote.

I’m taking medication to control my medical condition; do I still need to declare it?

Yes, the Underwriters need to be aware of all medical conditions including those that are under control by medication. This is important as otherwise a claim may be invalidated if medical conditions are not disclosed.

Are you able to quote and provide cover for a condition that has not yet been diagnosed?

We can only medically screen a condition that has been diagnosed by the medical profession and therefore, we cannot provide a quote or offer cover until such time as your medical condition has been diagnosed.

In 2 week’s time I will have finished my treatment, can I say ‘no’ to the question concerning ongoing treatment?

No, you must declare the position as of today.

How do I work out my travel dates?

The start date of your policy should be the day that you leave home. Your end date should be the date you return home. Note that this could be a different day to the day you leave your holiday destination.

Cancellation cover and End Supplier Failure Insurance ( Super Duper   only) starts on the date you purchase your policy so even if your holiday/trip is some time away, you will be covered for cancellation until the day your trip starts.

Is there an age limit on Single Trip policies?

There is no upper age limit.

What is the maximum duration of a Single Trip policy?

The maximum duration of any single trip is 115 days (although for persons aged 76 years and over the maximum duration is 45 days). If you are travelling for longer than 45 days and you are aged 76 or over, please call us on 02392 419 080.

Can I take out a Single Trip policy in the UK?

Yes, in fact some features on our policy are specifically for travel within the UK. For example, you will benefit from up to £10,000 for indirect medical costs if you are injured or fall ill while away.

What are the Geographical Areas on a Single Trip policy?

Worldwide   – including Canada, Caribbean, China, Hong Kong and USA but excluding Afghanistan, Liberia and Sudan.

Do you cover one-way trips?

No, Free Spirit only covers round trips that start in and return to the United Kingdom or the Isle of Man. However, please contact us on 02392 419 050 as we may be able to offer an alternative policy.

Can I extend my policy if I decide to stay longer?

Extension requests will be considered but cannot be guaranteed:

Trip extensions: – if you decide you wish to extend your trip whilst overseas – if you are unable to return home from your trip as planned – travel disruption caused by an infectious and contagious diseases

Full details of the terms and conditions which apply are shown in the   Insurance Policy .

Subject to Underwriters agreement, we can extend a Single Trip policy at your request. This is providing you let us know BEFORE your policy expires and that at the time of requesting the extension you are not intending to make a claim.

Please note – this is subject to the total trip duration including the extended period not exceeding 94 days (45 days if aged 76 years or over), which is the maximum trip duration of the Single Trip policy. You will be advised of the additional premium at the time of the request.

Please contact us on 02392 419 080 to discuss your requirements.

What start date should I choose?

Cancellation cover and End Supplier Failure Insurance begins on the date you choose to start your policy. If you already have a trip booked and you want to be covered immediately, you should select today’s date. You can choose to start your policy later (up to 31 days from today’s date) but there would not be any cancellation cover between now and the start date you choose.

Is there an age limit on Annual Multi-trip policies?

How many times can i travel and how long can each trip be.

You can travel as often as you like within the 12 month period. There is a limit of 32 days ( Super ) and 45 days ( Super Duper ) for any one trip.

Does an Annual Multi-trip policy cover me for travel in the UK?

Yes, your cover applies not only in your chosen geographical area, but also in the UK for trips of 2 or more nights.

In fact, some features on our policy are included with domestic travel in mind. For example, up to £10,000 cover is available for indirect medical costs if you are injured or fall ill while away.

Can I extend my policy if I am abroad and want to stay over the maximum trip limit?

We are not able to extend the Annual Multi-trip policy. The maximum duration for any one trip is 32 days ( Super ) and 45 days ( Super Duper ).

If you exceed the maximum trip duration, any claims during your holiday will not be covered.

Will I receive a renewal?

If you have Annual Multi-trip cover, we will contact you prior to the expiry of the period of insurance as shown on your Policy Schedule. We will give you at least 21 days written notice before the expiry date.

On receipt of the reminder, we will ask you to complete a new application as we need to make sure that your details are based on your health at the time of taking out a new policy for the next 12 months.

Under an Annual Multi-trip policy, can children travel independently of an insured adult?

No. Adults may travel independently but children under 18 years of age must be accompanied by an insured adult.

Do you have a 24 hour medical emergency service?

Yes, the Free Spirit policy has a 24-hour medical emergency and repatriation service provided by:

Free Spirit – 24 hour Medical Emergency Assistance +44 (0) 343 227 0843.

Staff are on call 24 hours a day throughout the year. They will, when necessary, guarantee medical bills, arrange repatriation and, if required, provide a medical escort.

You should wait until you return home to make a claim. Full details on how to make a claim and what supporting documentation you need are also shown in your   Insurance Policy .

Free Spirit Travel Mastercard

Free Spirit Travel Mastercard

10,000 points

15.99% to 23.99% variable

The Free Spirit card is a solid choice for Spirit frequent flyers who want a no-annual-fee card.

Spirit flyers are used to receiving little to no benefits on their flights. After all, the carrier requires you to pay for carry-on baggage , seat selection, beverages, and just about everything else.

While this is the price you pay for low-cost fares, the experience can be frustrating at times. Fortunately, having the Free Spirit ® Travel Mastercard ® can help elevate your Spirit flight experience thanks to the numerous benefits that the card offers.

The Ideal Cardholder

The Free Spirit card is tailored towards those who fly with Spirit often enough to take advantage of the benefits the card provides, and those who want to earn more Free Spirit points on their flights and everyday spending, but don’t want to pay a credit card annual fee.

Free Spirit Card Benefits

Priority boarding.

Cardholders automatically receive Zone 2 priority boarding on all Spirit flights. This will allow you to get to your seat sooner and settle in, as opposed to other travelers who are 3 groups behind in general boarding.

Points Pooling

One of the most convenient benefits of the card is the ability to combine your points with up to 8 friends and family members. This allows you to earn free flights faster and is a great option for traveling families that always have multiple passengers on the same booking.

Without the credit card, you would need to qualify for Free Spirit Silver or Gold status in order to access Points Pooling, but Free Spirit cardmembers get it as a benefit of card membership.

Anniversary Bonus Points

When you spend at least $10,000 in purchases within the prior cardmember year, you’ll earn 5,000 bonus points, on top of the points you’ll have earned from the spend. Since we value Free Spirit points at 1.1 cents per point , these 5,000 points are like receiving $55 towards a Spirit flight.

While you probably shouldn’t go out of your way to spend that much on the Free Spirit card just to earn the 5,000 point bonus, it is a nice perk for those who can meet that level of spend.

Inflight Discount

When paying with your card, you’ll get a 25% rebate on all inflight food and beverage purchases. You might be used to skipping beverage and snack service on Spirit flights in order to save some cash, but now you can treat yourself on your flights and get a discount!

Points Never Expire

One common complaint about the Free Spirit program is that points expire every 12 months. But you don’t need to worry about that with the Free Spirit card, because as long as you hold the card, your Free Spirit points will never expire!

How To Use Free Spirit Points for Max Value

Spirit award flights.

Your best option when it comes to redeeming your Free Spirit points is towards Spirit award tickets. Award tickets with Spirit start at 2,500 points and increase from there based on the cost of the ticket.

With Spirit, you’ll virtually always get somewhere between 1 and 1.1 cents per point in value on award redemption. So if the flight you are trying to purchase costs $100, you’ll need around 10,000 Free Spirit points in order to book the award ticket.

Hot Tip:  Keep in mind that on flights booked within 28 days of the departure date, Spirit charges an award redemption fee of $50. So you’ll want to make sure you book well in advance, as booking last minute and paying this fee will significantly drop the overall value of your award redemption.

Spirit Points + Cash Tickets

Don’t have enough points for a Spirit award? Spirit offers a Points + Cash booking option that allows you to reduce the overall cash cost of your fare, starting with as little as 1,000 points.

While you usually won’t get quite as much value as you would by waiting to redeem for a full award ticket, this can still be a decent option at times for those who don’t early Free Spirit points very quickly but still want a discounted flight.

How To Earn More Free Spirit Points

Spirit flights.

The obvious way to earn as many Free Spirit points as possible is to use your Free Spirit card to purchase all of your flights with Spirit to earn 2x points per $1.

Without the card, you’d usually earn 6x points per $1 with Spirit. But paying with your card boosts your point earnings by 33% up to 8x points per $1.

All Other Purchases

The Free Spirit card doesn’t offer any other bonus categories. But you’ll still earn 1x point per $1 on all other purchases outside of Spirit flights.

However, you might want to consider opting for another no annual fee card that offers a better return on these purchases, like the  Citi Double Cash ® Card .

Free Spirit Shopping Portal

The  Free Spirit Online Mall is Spirit’s shopping portal that allows you to earn additional Free Spirit points just for clicking through the portal before doing your online shopping. Spirit’s portal offers hundred of different merchants to shop through, allowing you to really rack up the extra points.

Free Spirit Dining Program

Through the Free Spirit Dining program , you can earn extra Free Spirit points every time you dine at a participating restaurant.

First, you need to enroll in the program and link your credit card. Then, each time you dining at a restaurant that participates in the program, and pay with your linked card, you’ll earn Free Spirit points!

Basic members will earn 1x point per $2 spent, Select members earn 3x points per $1 spent (this tier only requires opting into email communications to qualify), and top-tier VIP members will earn 5x points per $1 spent (you’ll reach this after 11 qualifying transactions in a calendar year).

However, the Free Spirit World Elite card charges a $79 annual fee, while the Free Spirit card charges $0 annual fee.

So, if you’re someone who flys with Spirit quite often, the Free Spirit World Elite card might be more worthwhile to you. But if you’re just looking for a way to earn Free Spirit points without paying an annual fee, then the Free Spirit card is the best bet.

Is the Free Spirit card a good card?

Yes, the Free Spirit card is a great option for those who fly with Spirit often enough to take advantage of the card’s benefits like priority boarding, Points Pooling, and inflight food and beverage discounts.

Does the Free Spirit card charge an annual fee?

No, the Free Spirit card does not charge an annual fee.

How many points do you need for a free Spirit flight?

The minimum number of points needed to book a Spirit flight is 2,500. However, Spirit does not offer a traditional award chart and instead ties the number of points needed to the cash cost of the ticket.

Free Spirit Travel Insurance Review: What You Need to Know

As a travel insurance provider specializing in older travellers and those with pre-existing medical conditions and disabilities, Free Spirit may very well offer you cover for a trip abroad even if you have a serious health issue. They cover most conditions, and will even consider terminal conditions. One feature that really sets Free Spirit apart is the Aftercare at home feature, which provides for home help, cosmetic surgery, dental treatment, physiotherapy and UK convalescence following hospitalisation abroad.

In the case of terminal conditions, however, you shouldn't apply online but should instead call Free Spirit on 0800 170 7704 to discuss with a medical screening specialist.

Free Spirit prices are generally competitive to the rest of the market. However an insurer's competitiveness can vary from condition to condition and across other factors like geographical coverage, so we'd always recommend checking prices with a number of providers before making a purchase. You can do so by filling out one form to get quick quotes from Free Spirit and other specialist travel insurance providers.

And customers rate Free Spirit with a score of 4.7 out of 5 stars on Trustpilot , which is quite a high score for an insurance provider.

Over 65s: Free Spirit has no upper age limit, offering cover to travellers of all ages.

How to pay for your treatment: Non-emergency bills should be paid by you at the time of treatment and claimed back when you return home. You must provide an itemised receipt for any monies paid for medical treatment. If you're admitted to a medical facility, you may need to pay the policy excess locally and ask the hospital or doctor to send the rest of their bills to Free Spirit's claims department.

You may only be covered for the cost of private medical treatment in Europe and Scandinavia if you get approved in advance by Free Spirit's medical assistance service on +44 (0)203 829 6745, so be sure to have that number handy when abroad. When seeking treatment in other countries, you'll also need to call that number ASAP (e.g., on your way to hospital) as they may direct you to a preferred facility.

Gadgets: Gadgets, like mobile phones, are covered up to £1,000 on the Super plan and £1,500 on Super Duper. If you need more cover, you may need to look elsewhere and pay for a gadget cover extension (up to £3,000 available from some brands like CoverForYou ).

Cruises: While coverage extends to trips that include a cruise (not all companies do this), Free Spirit doesn't offer some of the specialist cruise cover you can find elsewhere such as missed port, cabin confinement, etc.

Bottom Line: Expect Free Spirit to provide cover for most pre-existing conditions. In most cases quotes are within market averages and will hopefully enable you to travel even if you've suffered from a serious medical condition. Adding to peace of mind, policies include the unusual feature of aftercare once you return home to the UK and also repatriation for you and a companion, should it be required for medical reasons.

How do Free Spirit Prices Compare?

Mid-market Free Spirit travel insurance prices are certainly competitive for many pre-existing conditions. When compared to Fit2Travel and GoodToGo—two other medical-specialist travel insurers—Free Spirit's prices were near average for most medical conditions. Generally speaking, Free Spirit is more expensive than Fit2Travel but cheaper than Goodtogoinsurance.com.

Of the conditions and geographies we studied, Free Spirit really stood out for good deals for those who've had a heart attack and have a stent in place and are travelling worldwide including America . In fact, our sample 65-year-old traveller with pre-existing conditions of aneurysm and stent would pay £531 to cover a 2-week trip to the US—25% less than the Fit2Travel quote and a whopping 40% less than GoodToGo. But as always, prices can vary a lot by person and even day so be sure to check your own quotes to see how they compare.

Insurance quotes can vary significantly from day to day and according to each individual's details, so please just use this following data for general educational purposes only about the travel insurance market; your quotes may reflect a large degree of variation.

Free Spirit Standard Features

Free Spirit includes cover for Emergency Medical, Cancellation and Baggage on all policies, limits for which can be found below in the Policies section.

For more complete details like inner limits and exclusions, please see the policy documents .

Free Spirit Optional Extra Coverages

Free Spirit offers extra coverage beyond what is offered by traditional travel insurance. For instance, travellers can buy cover for winter sports and, separately, gadget cover to protect mobile phones and tablets when you go abroad.

Free Spirit Travel Insurance Cover Plans & Limits

Travellers can choose between two plans with Free Spirit—Super and Super Duper—depending on the level of cover you need. For instance, those with holidays worth around £5,000 would opt for the Super Duper plan, whereas those only needing £2,500 to cover non-refundable travel and accommodation expenses might find the Super plan to be sufficient.

To better understand the value of Free Spirit travel insurance you need to look at it in the context of other available options. We compared it to other plans in the market so you can see which may be more suitable for you.

Free Spirit Travel Insurance vs Fit2Travel Travel Insurance

Fit2Travel

Fit2Travel is another travel insurer specializing in offering cover to those with pre-existing medical conditions. Plans are typically quite economical relative to others in the market for the level of cover, but you don't get aftercare cover post hospitalization once you return home to the UK.

Bottom Line: If you want extras such as cover for aftercare (e.g., physiotherapy, cosmetic surgery, etc.) on your return home to the UK then Free Spirit might be worth any extra cost to you.

Free Spirit Travel Insurance vs goodtogoinsurance.com Travel Insurance

goodtogoinsurance.com

Another medical-specialist for those travelling with health issues, goodtogoinsurance.com offers a host of optional extras like 24/7 Virtual Doctor to speak with a UK doctor for advice whilst abroad and Gadget cover. All plans include financial failure and repatriation, plus home help and a recuperation holiday post emergency surgery abroad if you stayed in hospital for 5 days. Plus those going on a cruise can get specialist cruise cover from Good to Go.

Bottom Line: Free Spirit provides slightly more robust aftercare once you return home to the UK (e.g., physiotherapy, cosmetic surgery, etc.), but goodtogoinsurance.com stands out for the optional 24/7 Virtual Doctor and recuperation trips. If price is a priority, Free Spirit is likely to be cheaper.

Holiday Insurance

All staff I spoke to were extremely helpful and knowledgeable. I did get cheaper quotes but your staff were so good I went with your Company. I received the paperwork regarding the insurance details the day after accepting your terms. A very approachable and efficient Company.

Policy renewal: a very good experience

Renewing our travel insurance for all the family involved a lengthy phone call, as a year ago, but going through the various questions that had to be answered was made perfectly acceptable thanks to the helpfulness and quick understanding of the person I spoke to, Emily. Thank you.

No age limit on Annual Travel Insurance…

No age limit on Annual Travel Insurance Policy. Free Spirit highly recommended to me by several friends. Staff were very courteous and extremely efficient in handling my application. Everything was explained clearly and spelt out in easily understandable terms. Policy Documents arrived within a couple of days of me agreeing to take out the policy

The person I spoke to could not have been more helpful or patient helping me to complete my application particularly about personal health aspects of it. However my final judgement of any insurance company will be whether they are as courteous, understanding and helpful if I have to make a claim. The initial conversation made me optimistic that they would be.

Outstanding Service.

Spoke to Lauren at Free Spirit and she was very helpful resolving some queries we had when renewing travel insurance policy for my Mum. We have used Free Spirit for the last three years and would highly recommend them.

Efficient lady helped me through the process. I have used this company before and recommend them.

Date of experience : 03 April 2024

Good service

Easy to use web-site with detailed information. Friendly & efficient on the phone when we needed some help. Reasonable cost. The real test will be how they deal with any claim, should we need to make one.

Date of experience : 11 March 2024

Hassle free experience.

Having used Free Spirit Travel Insurance for several years now I am always happy and pleased with the confidence the operator has when discussing your booking needs and options plus explaining your medical cover. Wouldn’t go anywhere else.

They listened and were really helpful

They listened and were really helpful. I managed to get travel insured with them and would use them again. I didn't have a claim so don't know what that experience would be like.

Very efficient company

My telephone call to Free Spirit was answered directly and promptly, with no number-pressing or waiting in a queue . My enquiry was dealt with politely and efficiently, resulting in a very satisfied customer.

What previously had taken us a 2 hour to get a quote with other companies was achieved in 20 mins with none of the stress. Very pleasant customer experience. No repetition of questions. No confusion over medicines. Would highly recommend

Patrica was most helpful

The important thing for me was that Free Spirit have no problem in offering me an insurance for an over 80 year old. I was recomended to use them by someone who has found them to give a good service. I have since done the same for a friend of mine in the same age bracket. The call to them was efficient and the documentation arrived quickly.

Had travel insurance before and was satisfied with the price of cover received. Contacted for insurance for this year and delighted with my cover. Reasonably priced, in fact couldn’t be bettered.

Hassle free travel insurance for people with medical conditions, bought online. Somehow managed to buy it without the key issue of covering my medical issues. Phoned the company the following day to correct this. The supervisor on the phone was friendly and helpful, and sorted the situation.
