How do I remove the cover of hauk travel cot bed to be washed?

We have owned a dream and play cot for 6 months and used it on 3 occasions for our visiting granddaughter. Despite hours of effort it is only possible to lock 3 of the sides in place. Whilst it might be suggested that there is some sort of "knack" to this, this is not credible since we can release and easily assemble the same three sides very easily. There is clearly a manufacturing fault with the locking mechanism.

Watch the movie ! Pull the centre tag up and the mechanisms to unlock the sides will then release with some manipulation.

How To Put Up A Travel Cot Like A Pro – Pro Guide

  • Writen by: Ricky

Table of Contents

Going somewhere with your baby? Well deserved if you ask us, given the past 9 months you’ve just endured!

And by no means are we trying to deter you from your safe travels with your little one, but tending to the baby’s needs such as their eating, sleeping and changing diapers while on a trip can be quite challenging for the first time.

So, we’re here to help by answering your questions about baby travel cots. Questions like what a travel cot is, how to put up a travel cot, and how to fold a travel cot. Get these bits done right, and you’ll be set for a full and restful night’s sleep for both baby and you.

must have travel essentials

Unavoidably, you might find yourself stressing over the essentials to bring and how to cater to their needs. Little things can pile on the stress, such as baby food packs, bottle sterilization, extra supplies and the all-important necessities for a good nights night’s sleep.

Babies spend most of their time sleeping, so a good quality sleep should be one of your main priorities here. How do we achieve this seemingly simple task? You got it – a good travel cot

As we all know, whenever babies feel discomfort or dissatisfaction, they can cry a lot. And let’s face it, no parent wants a screeching baby the whole holiday (can you imagine…)

Luckily, there are lightweight, portable travel cots available that can help solve the whole sleeping conundrum for your little one, which in turn will lead to a happier baby, where everyone can enjoy the baby’s laughter instead of the tears.

Sounds good right? Pull up a seat and let’s get to it.

how to fold a travel cot

What is a travel cot?

The travel cot is a product made for babies to sleep in and parents usually call it sent from heaven as it is very convenient to use. There are different kinds of travel cots to choose from depending on the level of need. And these are a standard travel cot, a pop-up travel cot and a bassinet travel cot. A standard travel cot has a collapsible frame and removable mattress.

It can be also be used as a playpen and suitable for babies and toddlers. And the pop-up travel cot is the smaller one that instantly pops up into a bed and can be folded for easy carriage. It is best for smaller and lighter babies. Lastly, the bassinet travel cot is like the two other kinds but much smaller and softer, which is best for newborn babies.

If you’ve chosen the standard travel cot, the next question is, how to set up the travel cot? It’s just quick and easy. Whether you are familiar with it, heard about it or are just a beginner and don’t know where to start. We’ll cover a step by step guide on how to put up a travel cot, how to fold a travel cot, as well as how to put it back down again.

3 different baby travel cots

How to put up a travel cot

Let’s get started. Firstly, let’s get the travel cot out of the bag. Now, considering the wide range of different models here, you may need to slightly adapt the below to your own. Every travel cot will come with a set of safety instructions, so please make sure you follow these, too.

But, as I know from experience, not every set of instructions comes as easy to follow as you’d hoped for. So our instructions for how to put up a travel cot might just save the day;

  • Place it on a flat surface – Firmly place it on the floor. Making sure that it’s a flat surface makes it be easier for you to set it up. Hold and gather all the four-leg corners in the middle. To know that you get it right, you can see the circle with a pull cord in the middle.
  • Open the top – By using both of your hands, spread the four-leg corners simultaneously, pushing them towards their direction and exposing the circle in the middle of the cot.
  • Pull up the sides – All at once, pull up the sides. Do the opposite sides together. The longer sides first and then the shorter sides. Make sure that they clicked in.
  • Push the circle down in the middle – By using your palm, push the circle down and flatten the surface. You’ll be able to see where you put the mattress cot, covering the circle in the middle. After that, you’re done!

Now pat yourself on the back for a task well accomplished!

Err, so how do we get this thing back down again…

how to put down a travel cot

How to put down a travel cot

  • Pull the circle up in the middle – After removing the mattress cot off the bedding, you’ll see the circle in the middle with a pull cord. Pull it up. Make sure to hold the leg corner sides.
  • Unclick buttons on both side s – You’ll see that buttons are placed on both sides, usually on the longer sides of the travel cot. Unclick the buttons and make sure you unclick them on both sides at the same time. To check if you’ve done it correctly if you did it right, it should look sloppy and make a “U” shape.

Note: If you won’t click it properly, the legs won’t meet even if you try to push them together. So, see to it that when you put down and put up the travel cot, move it to the opposite side, it should be at the same time.

We also found the below video super helpful before we came fully accustomed to my own baby travel cot.

So, now that you know how to set up a travel cot, you will save a lot of time, effort and stress if those pesky instructions are like a foreign language to you. In turn, this means good quality sleep for the baby, good quality sleep for you…and a thoroughly enjoyable trip for everyone involved.

…Other guests included.

Enjoy every moment, and have a truly fantastic holiday with the family!

I have a hauck dream and play travel cot and you pull the tack up that's right in the middle of the bed, then press the buttons that are on the sides. If that makes sense. Then once it is folded the mat that you put in the cot wraps around the cot so it keeps it together and then it fit's in the bag.

I really hope that I didn't confuse you!

The bottom pulls up and then the sides collapse but it then doesnt fold up like its supposed to to fit in its little bag. Thanks for the advice though

member avatar

make sure the middle bitis pulled together properly before pulling the corners in

member avatar

I just got a hauk travel cot, the cheap one from tesco & i had trouble collapsing it.  if it is the same design then it for me I couldnt find the button to press which made the longest sides collapse. Finally located it underneath the bar & pushed it in - it then collapsed fine.

member avatar

If its any thing like the one i had for DD1 the sides collapsed somewhat but not fully you had to press the button again to fully collapse them once partly collapsed?? Hope that makes sense? xxx

Yay! Thanks! Its all collapsed and in its bag xx

I'd have a couple of practices Gem just to make sure ya can do it next time lol. xx

How to Put Up and Collapse a Travel Cot

Setting up and collapsing travel cots : a comprehensive guide, introduction.

Travel cots are indispensable for families on the move, providing a safe and portable sleeping solution for babies and toddlers. While they offer convenience and flexibility, setting up and collapsing travel cots can sometimes be a complex process. This guide will walk you through the steps for various popular models, highlighting their unique features and mechanisms.

Travel Cot Assembly and Disassembly Instructions

Brand-specific nuances.

  • Joie Kubbie Sleep: Known for its easy fold and unfold mechanism, but ensure all sides are locked in place before pushing down the base.
  • Nuna Sena Aire: Offers an advanced design and is praised for its breathability and comfort, with detailed setup instructions provided in the user manual.
  • Bugaboo Stardust: Designed for an almost instant setup with its unique pop-open feature, making it ideal for quick use.
  • Hauck Dream n Play: Provides a simple and intuitive setup process, emphasizing the order of operations for stability.
  • Maxi Cosi Iris: While specific setup instructions were not found, the product is marketed for its compact and user-friendly design.

Being knowledgeable about the setup and collapse processes of your travel cot ensures a stress-free experience during your travels. It's important to follow the manufacturer's instructions closely for each brand and model, as they can vary significantly. With practice, these steps can be performed quickly and safely, making any travel cot a convenient choice for your child's comfort on the go.

Generic Guide for Setting Up and Collapsing Any Travel Cot

While travel cots may vary in design and specific mechanisms, many share common features in their setup and collapse processes. The following generic guide is designed to help you with most travel cots you may encounter.

Setting Up a Travel Cot

  • Unpack and Inspect: Remove all the parts from the travel cot's carrying case and lay them out on a clean, flat surface. Check for any damage or missing parts before you begin.
  • Expand the Frame: Lift the cot's frame from the center, allowing the legs to spread out. Extend the top rails until they lock into place. You should hear a click or snap when each rail is secure.
  • Secure the Base: With the top rails locked, push down on the center of the cot's base until it is flat and locked in position. Some cots may have a pull strap or handle to assist with this.
  • Double-Check Locks: Go around the cot and double-check that all rails and the base are locked securely. This step is crucial for the safety and stability of the cot.
  • Add the Mattress: Place the travel cot's mattress into the base, ensuring it fits snugly without any gaps around the edges.

Collapsing a Travel Cot

  • Remove the Mattress: Take the mattress out of the travel cot and set it aside.
  • Unlock the Base: Lift the center of the base to unlock it. Some models may have a strap or button to release the lock.
  • Unlock the Sides: Release the locks on the top rails. This is usually done by squeezing a button or latch on each rail. Do this before you attempt to fold the sides.
  • Collapse the Frame: Bring the sides of the cot together. Some cots may require you to lift the entire frame slightly before it will fold compactly.
  • Pack Away: Once fully collapsed, secure any straps or latches designed to keep the cot folded, and place it back into its carrying case along with the mattress.

Note: This is a general guide and may not apply to all travel cots. Always refer to the manufacturer's instructions for the specific setup and collapse procedures of your travel cot model.

Traveling Light: How to Pack a Carry-on

An illustration depicts the back of a person with curly dark hair and headphones wearing a backpack that is transparent. The items inside -- sneakers, clothing, separate small bags containing things like glasses, toothpaste, medications -- are all neatly arranged. The person is standing in a windowed corridor, and, in one corner of the illustration, a plane can be seen rising in the sky.

By Stephanie Rosenbloom

For some travelers, the mere thought of packing a carry-on bag can sour even the most potent vacation anticipation . But packing light can also be a creative endeavor that helps build excitement for your upcoming getaway. And with fees for checked bags on the rise, it makes economic sense to master the art of packing a carry-on. Here are some tips on how to save space — and your sanity.

Get in the minimalist mind-set

If you tend to over-pack, begin by thinking about why you’re traveling in the first place. Doing so may help you focus on the many sights, sounds, scents and tastes you’re about to experience instead of the many outfits you’re unable to cram into your bag.

“It’s all about the mind-set,” said Pauline Frommer, co-president of the Frommer’s Guidebooks and Frommers.com , who has not checked a bag in more than 20 years. “When you’re traveling,” she explained, “it’s more about you seeing the world than the world seeing you.”

Pack colors that coordinate so you can bring fewer items yet still have options, like re-wearing the same pants with various shirts. Darker colors mean a stain won’t render something unwearable. And invest in some technical clothing. Such pieces keep you warm without being bulky, are easy to move in, have pockets for necessities like glasses and cellphones, and resist water as well as odors so they can be worn more than once. Many outdoor apparel brands ( Patagonia and Arc’teryx , to name a couple) make clothes that are great for hiking yet sleek enough to dress up when the sun goes down. Just pack some eye-catching accessories.

“I tend to maybe throw in a necklace,” Ms. Frommer said, which she wears on top of her day clothing “to make it look more dressy.”

Choose your bag

There is no perfect carry-on for everyone. To determine the bag that’s best for you, ask yourself how you’ll be using it. Will you be carrying it long distances, through subway turnstiles and city streets? Or will you typically be rolling off a plane and into a car? Bags with wheels tend to be less taxing on your body, though if you’ll be taking public transportation or flights of stairs, a backpack or lightweight duffel can keep you hands-free and may make for smoother transitions. Also consider the things you’ll be bringing. Structured, harder luggage is often best for keeping dress clothes wrinkle-free and organizing unwieldy items like high heels. That said, a soft duffel bag without wheels has a better chance of being able to squish into an overhead bin.

Nerissa Settie, who, as the butler executive at Raffles Doha in Qatar trains the butler team and oversees day-to-day operations, wrote in an email that “each option offers a different benefit,” with duffel bags providing more depth, and wheeled bags providing more compartments and less strain on your shoulders. If you opt for the latter, buy a bag with four wheels, Ms. Settie advised, which is easier to maneuver along an aircraft aisle.

Whatever bag you choose, know the rules. Carry-on bag dimensions vary by airline, so be sure to check your specific airline’s size and weight requirements, including those of any connecting carriers.

Also pay attention to your route and fare class, which can affect the number of bags you’re allowed to carry on, as well as their weight. And remember: While your bag may comply with the carry-on policy, that doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll be allowed to bring it on. For instance, if you’re in a low boarding group, you’re more likely to have to gate-check your bag. With that in mind, keep essential items like medicines in a small bag that can easily fit under the seat in front of you. If you’re unsure about whether you’re allowed to pack a particular item, check out the government websites for the places you plan to travel through, such as the Transportation Security Administration’s What Can I Bring? page and the European Commission’s Information for Air Travellers page.

Know when to fold ‘em

When it comes to packing your clothes, the question is: Should you fold them flat or roll them? Ms. Settie recommends rolling because it uses less space and results in fewer creases. That’s easy enough with T-shirts, but what about a suit jacket? The butlers at Raffles Doha use a technique that involves turning one shoulder of the jacket inside-out and then tucking the opposite shoulder inside it, aligning the sleeves and then folding the jacket in half while inside-out, which minimizes wrinkling and helps protect the outer layer of the jacket (Ms. Settie shared instructions here ). Or simply wear your blazer onto the plane, something Ms. Settie suggests because jackets and jeans take up a lot of space and weigh more. Besides, she said, doing so gives you “the added benefit of traveling in style.”

As you place items in your bag, think about balance. Put heavier items, like shoes, at the bottom (near the wheels, if your bag has them). Ms. Frommer said she typically packs two pairs and stashes things such as socks and jewelry in them.

Clothing should go toward the top of your bag to reduce creases created from weight, with jackets going in last, Ms. Settie said. You can also add a layer of protection from wrinkles by putting skirts and blouses in plastic dry cleaning bags before folding them flat and then placing them at the top of your bag.

Borrow and buy

A bit of research ahead of time can free up a lot of room. Call your hotel or vacation rental to find out if items like hair dryers and sunscreen are provided so you don’t have to pack your own, and ask if they have washing machines or offer cleaning at reasonable prices.

And don’t worry about packing for every possible eventuality. Buying practical things while you’re away can be great fun. It’s an opportunity to talk with locals, try regional products (like the affordable beauty elixirs found in Parisian pharmacies) and, of course, bring a few treasures home, thanks to all that room that’s left in your bag.

Mumbai:  Spend 36 hours in this fast-changing Indian city  by exploring ancient caves, catching a concert in a former textile mill and feasting on mangoes.

Kyoto:  The Japanese city’s dry gardens offer spots for quiet contemplation  in an increasingly overtouristed destination.

Iceland:  The country markets itself as a destination to see the northern lights. But they can be elusive, as one writer recently found .

Texas:  Canoeing the Rio Grande near Big Bend National Park can be magical. But as the river dries, it’s getting harder to find where a boat will actually float .
