Heart Kent radio presenter James Heming breaks silence after breakfast show is axed

Listeners have been leaving emotional messages to the voice they wake up to every morning

Legendary radio presenter James Heming has thanked his listeners for their kind messages after his Heart Kent breakfast show was axed .

He has been on the airwaves for almost two decades and currently hosts the show with co-presenter Becky Ives.

Sadly our drives to work will no longer be the same after yesterday's devastating news that the localised breakfast show will be replaced with a national broadcast .

Heart will switch to a single breakfast show across the whole of England, Scotland and Wales in the coming months, ending the current 22 breakfast shows produced by their respective teams.

The station's local drive time shows will also be condensed to 10 covering larger areas.

Global - the company behind the likes of Capital, Smooth and Heart - has announced it will be slashing the number of broadcast centres across the UK from 24 to 14.

While it is possible some staff may transfer to other centres, Heart is also due to close its Kent studio on the John Wilson Business Park in Whitstable.

Heart Kent tweeted a link to their breakfast show this morning (February 27) along with the message: "Morning! Here we go then #HeartBreakfast for a Wednesday is ON! James & Becky x".

James then quoted that Tweet and added "Huge thanks for all the messages. So appreciated. Loads of love right back atcha. We will be here as long as we can."

Listeners have been replying to his message in their droves, explaining just how much waking up to the local breakfast show means to them.

One Twitter user named Louise (@l_w583) said: "It just does not seem right nor fair.

"Over the year you and various co hosts have seen me through waking up for school, calming me before sitting GCSE and A Level, listening to you as I drove to uni each day and now to work.

"Can’t remember a time where you weren’t on the radio."

Sue Groves MBE (@SUEG46) added: "Am feeling such a huge sense of loss right now, you are such a big part of our morning routines and you know you have our support. X"

While Emily Hicks (@EmilyAAHicks) said: "This news nearly broke me yesterday... I don't even like it when one of you goes on holiday! My mornings will be so much duller when you go... and Sleeps Til Santa.... well that's our family Christmas countdown b******d too."

Another Twitter user, Mrs Shearer (@NinaNinamills) replied: "I’m gutted who will cheer me up in the morning x I love u guys xxxx"

Viv Cullen (@Vivcullen5) added: "You and Becky our daily dose of sunshine! The mornings are made more bearable all because of you. The thought of not being able to switch on the radio in the morning and listening to your madness leaves me feeling incredibly sad."

And Ryan Langworthy (@rdlangy1) said: "Hope things work out - you guys have been company every morning since I started work 17yrs ago!"

Flashes Earn Ten Seed in Las Vegas Regional

KENT, Ohio – The Mid-American Conference Champion Kent State women's golf team will travel to Las Vegas for the regional round of the 2024 NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championship. 

Regional play will get underway on Monday, May 6, at Spanish Trail Country Club (Par 72, 6,400 yards). The Golden Flashes will have some familiarity with the course, having played it just last year at The Show where they finished 11th overall. 

The Golden Flashes earned the No. 10 seed in the Las Vegas Regional after winning their 25th-consecutive conference title on Tuesday. Hester Sicking and Leon Takagi finished as co-champions as both entered the club house at 6-over par while Veronika Kedronova placed third individually after shooting 8-over. Kent State remains the only MAC school to ever hoist the championship trophy.

Joining the Flashes in Nevada will be top-seeded UCLA, Arkansas, Arizona, Florida State, California, Purdue, Baylor, Oklahoma, Colorado State, Xavier, and Dartmouth. Individuals from UNLV, New Mexico, Texas Tech, Princeton, and Northern Arizona will also compete. 

The top five teams and the low individual not on an advancing team from each regional site will advance to compete in the national championships to be played May 17-22 at Omni La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad, California.
