  • Coverage : Ensure the SIM card offers strong coverage in the areas you plan to visit. The major Singapore SIM card providers generally offer good coverage, but it’s always wise to double-check.
  • Roaming options : Some Singapore SIMs offer international roaming , which is handy if you plan to head elsewhere after Singapore. Or you want to use up unused data when you get home. Different providers offer different options with regard to the different countries available and the quantity of data allowance.
  • Validity period : Choose a SIM with a suitable expiry date to match your trip length. Keep in mind that some tourist SIM cards have shorter validity periods.
  • Price : Compare the costs of different SIM cards to find one that fits your budget . Be sure not to sacrifice essential features for the sake of saving a few dollars.

About eSIM

Another trend to watch for is eSIMs. As eSIM technology grows in popularity, more devices and plans now support it, providing another way to access data without needing a physical SIM card .

Instead of using a traditional SIM card, eSIM allows you to activate your eSIM data plan via email and use it immediately. This is a convenient option as it lets you switch between carriers seamlessly without needing to swap out a physical SIM card.

However, it is worth noting that a physical SIM card that you insert into your device often offers better data allowances and lower costs.

Also check that the eSIM offers local and/or international calls if this is important to you, as they are often data only. You also need to ensure your mobile device is eSIM compatible.

In summary:

  • eSIMs allow you to activate your data plan via email
  • You don’t need a physical SIM card
  • Physical SIM cards often offer better value packages that eSIMs
  • Some travel eSIMs are data only, without call allowances
  • You need to ensure your mobile device is eSIM compatible

Where to Buy a SIM Card in Singapore

You can easily find SIM cards at the airport, various convenience stores like 7-Eleven, and in shopping malls around the city.

We recommend buying one online, and then you can collect it upon arrival at Changi Airport.

Required Documents to Buy a SIM Card

To buy a SIM card as a tourist, you’ll need to present your passport  as proof of your identity. It’s a mandatory requirement for purchasing a SIM card in Singapore.

Your passport helps the retailer verify your identity and ensures that only genuine tourists access the tourist SIM card options.

How Do Singapore SIM Cards Work?

When you purchase a Singapore prepaid SIM card, the first thing you need to do is activate it by inserting the card into your phone. This process is straightforward; just follow the instructions provided in the sim card packet, or ask the store staff for assistance.

Once you’ve done this, you can immediately start using the preloaded credit to make calls, send texts, and use mobile data.

Important tip : Make sure that your smartphone is  unlocked  for you to use the available local SIM cards in Singapore. Locked phones are restricted to one network provider, making it impossible to switch to other carriers while in the country.

If your smartphone is locked, contact your carrier to unlock it before heading to Singapore.

How to Top-Up Your SIM Card

Once you have your SIM card, topping up your credit is a breeze. You can find top-up cards of various denominations at 7-Eleven stores, the service provider’s stores, and even newsstands.

These cards usually have a hidden number and PIN, which can be revealed by scratching off the protective coating.

To top-up your SIM, follow the instructions provided on the top-up card. These instructions include straightforward steps to input the card number and PIN.

In addition to physical top-up cards, you can also use online top-up services or apps provided by SIM card providers. Online top-ups often make it easy to track your balance and monitor your usage throughout your stay in Singapore.

To do this, simply visit your provider’s website, create an account or log in, and follow the guided prompts to add your desired top-up amount.

Apps for SIM Management

When you get a tourist SIM card in Singapore, you can also download apps for managing your SIM.

These apps make it easier for you:

  • Check your account balance
  • View remaining data, talk time and SMS
  • Top-up or purchase data bundles easily

For example, if you choose the M1 Prepaid Tourist SIM, you can download the  M1 Prepaid App from the Google Play or Apple App Store.

Likewise, if you opt for a Singtel Prepaid SIM card, you can manage your account with the  Singtel Prepaid hi!App and Starhub has the Starhub Prepaid App.

Prepaid vs Postpaid SIM cards

Prepaid SIM cards  are a popular choice for tourists because they offer flexibility and convenience. With a prepaid SIM card, you have complete control over your expenditure, as you only pay for what you use in advance.

Additionally, you can easily top up your account when needed. This option eliminates the worry of unexpected charges and can conveniently be purchased upon your arrival in Singapore.

On the other hand,  postpaid SIM cards  are usually more suitable for longer stays or for residents. With a postpaid plan, you receive a monthly bill for the services you have used, and these plans often come with contract commitments. This option may be advantageous in terms of more cost-effective data and voice packages, but it also comes with the responsibility of managing and paying monthly bills.

In general, tourists tend to prefer  prepaid SIM cards  as they provide simplicity and freedom from contracts. They allow you to stay connected without being tied down to monthly fees, and it is easy to find  prepaid plans  offering attractive call, data, and messaging packages.

Is Pocket Wi-Fi a good option for Singapore?

While Singapore offers numerous SIM cards for tourists, you might be interested in additional options like a pocket Wi-Fi.

A pocket Wi-Fi is a portable device allowing you to stay connected to the internet without using a local SIM card . They are especially useful when travelling with a group or as a family, as multiple devices can connect to the same pocket Wi-Fi, without purchasing multiple plans.

However, they don’t allow you to make local or international calls.

For a Pocket WiFi, you usually pre-pay online and it will be delivered to your accommodation. You will need to post it back at the end of your trip.

Click here to read more about Pocket WiFis and order one online.

Useful Apps for Singapore

Once you’ve chosen your SIM card, it’s time to download some useful apps for navigating Singapore . Just remember to track your data usage to avoid running out!

The city has an excellent public transport system, and using apps like MyTransport.SG or CityMapper can make getting around much more manageable.

Other navigation apps worth downloading are Grab and Gojek , which provide taxi and ride-hailing services similar to Uber.

Singapore is also known for its diverse food scene. Use apps like Chope or Burpple to locate restaurants and cafes in your vicinity. They offer reviews, ratings, and even discounts for specific eateries, helping you choose the perfect spot for your taste buds.

Nowadays, any conversation between friends in Singapore results in a discussion about holiday plans. And no wonder, because borders have opened up after more than two years of Covid-19 restrictions!

Finally we head to Changi Airport for something other than eating and shopping at Jewel, tourists are starting to come back to Singapore, and well, doesn’t it just feel good to take a plane again???

One thing we need other than our passport and the local currency (and our vaccination certs) is having mobile data — this lets us stay in touch with people back home, search for info on the go, use online maps and manage our bookings.

This is the same for tourists who visit Singapore. For them, picking up a tourist SIM card right after arriving is essential, and chances are, you might have been asked by an overseas friend or a tourist where to get a tourist SIM in Singapore and which to choose.

What is a tourist SIM?

A tourist SIM is a prepaid SIM card that gives you a certain amount of data, as well text messages and talk time.

Tourist SIM cards do not come with a contract and are often valid only for a specific amount of time. They are thus suitable for those who are visiting, rather than living permanently, in a particular country.

Which SIM card is best in Singapore (in our opinion)?

One of the popular tourist SIM cards in Singapore comes from Singtel.

The Singtel tourist SIM card offers lightning-fast speeds on a 5G network. It is also super easy to get hold of — you can pick one up at Singapore Changi Airport or 7-Eleven stores islandwide…

But those aren’t the Singtel tourist SIM’s only advantages. Here are 5 other reasons why we like it.

1. How do I get this tourist SIM card? You can even buy it before you arrive in Singapore!

That means better, faster service and download speeds, even in crowded areas (which we know how Singapore can get, especially at key events such as the Singapore F1 Night Race), and the ability to connect more devices.

5G will pave the way for new technologies that we could previously only dream about, and is going to be the key to the development of virtual reality.

Here are some of the benefits you get from using Singtel’s 5G network:

  • 10X Faster speeds – Download movies, games and content in seconds.
  • 2X Latency – Experience 2x faster response time between devices, with less loading and waiting.
  • Better bandwidth – Connect more devices without reduction in speed and quality.
  • Consistent coverage – Get a reliable connection anywhere for high-quality streaming and more.
  • Security – Better protection when you shop or transact online with your phone.

Singapore SIM cards have affordable prices for any tourist. The prices may depend on many factors like network carriers, data plan, and validity,… You can refer to some information below:

1. Singapore SIM Cards Cost

The cost of Singapore SIM cards can vary depending on the telecommunications provider and your plan type. Here is a general overview of the cost of Singapore SIM cards:

  • Prepaid Singapore SIM cards: In Singapore, prepaid SIM cards can range in price from SGD 8 to SGD 38. The telecom company, the data allotment, and the duration of the package determine the price. Unlimited data plans are available from some carriers, although they are more costly.
  • Postpaid Singapore SIM cards: In Singapore, postpaid SIM cards often need a contract, and the price might change based on the telecom company and the plan type you select. Depending on the monthly data allotment and other features like international roaming and bundled services, the price normally varies from SGD 20 to SGD 80.
  • Tourist SIM cards: Singapore’s tourist SIM cards are created for transient tourists and normally include a certain number of voice and data minutes. Depending on your plan choice and the telecom operator, the price might be anywhere from SGD 12 and SGD 38.
  • It's important to note that some plans may require additional activation or SIM card registration fees, so check the fine print before making a purchase.
  • The pricing ranges are updated in 2023, it may be slightly different at the time of reading.

2. Singapore eSIM Cost

eSIM plans for tourists in Singapore typically cost between $8 to $25, depending on the data and call benefits. These usually include 1-5GB of data, local calls, and sometimes incoming international calls.

Some providers also offer bulk data plans, but the prices are quite high, up to roundly $50. You can refer to some comparisons between some Singapore eSIM providers as below:

As you can see, when choosing Singapore eSIM from eSIM providers, you will have so many options for your trips. If you:

  • Need more plan and validity options: SingeSIM
  • Prefer more reasonable prices: SingeSIM or Holafly
  • Need unlimited data plan: Holafly and WHIZ
  • Need top-up options: Airalo
  • Longterm use: Holafly

How much data does a tourist need when traveling in Singapore?

  • Most of the time, 3GB to 5GB of data will be plenty for a vacation for individuals who regularly use data. You might wish to choose a plan with a bigger data volume or longer validity if you plan to travel for a longer period of time (about one month).
  • To save data, you should make use of Public WiFi as long as possible.

VII. Singapore SIM Cards and eSIM: Which One is Suitable for Your Trips?

Although travel to Singapore doesn’t need to have an eSIM, there are certain benefits and conveniences for tourists.

Below is a quick comparison between a Singapore SIM card and eSIM. Let’s examine their similarities and differences!

1. Similarities

  • They are both SIMs, and can connect the phone to the mobile provider’s network in Singapore and keep them connected everywhere in Singapore.
  • They can work almost in a Dual-sim phone and can be used to connect to the network.
  • Include 2 forms: Data-only plans and Data-voice plans.

2. Differences

Below are some key differences between 2 types of SIMs for Singapore travel:

VIII. Tips for Saving Data When Using Singapore SIM Card

Here are some tips for saving data when using a Singapore SIM card:

  • Turn off automatic app updates: This can use a lot of data in the background without you realizing it. Manually update apps over WiFi only.
  • Avoid streaming videos or music over mobile data: Only stream when connected to WiFi. You can also download content over WiFi to watch/listen offline later.
  • Reduce image and video quality in apps: In settings, lower the image/video quality for things like social media and maps to reduce data usage. High quality uses significantly more data.
  • Turn off location services when not in use: Location tracking eats up data in the background. Disable when you don’t need navigation or geo-tagging.
  • Use WiFi wherever possible: Connect to free public WiFi networks in malls, cafes, MRT stations when available to avoid using mobile data.
  • Update apps over WiFi in bulk: Downloading multiple app updates simultaneously over mobile data uses a lot more than doing it over WiFi.
  • Use local Singapore maps offline in the app: Loading map areas while on WiFi avoids using data when navigating.

What is the difference between a Singapore SIM card and eSIM?

The main difference is that an eSIM is embedded in the device and cannot be removed, whereas a Singapore SIM card is a removable card that can be swapped between devices. Additionally, eSIMs can support multiple cellular plans at once, while physical SIM cards are typically associated with only one plan at a time.

Can I use an eSIM in Singapore?

Yes, eSIMs are supported by several mobile network operators in Singapore, including Singtel, StarHub, and M1.

What are the advantages of using an eSIM over a physical Singapore SIM card?

Some advantages of eSIMs include the ability to activate a cellular plan remotely without needing a physical card, support for multiple plans on one device, and the convenience of not needing to physically swap SIM cards when traveling between countries.

X. Final Words

In conclusion, Singapore offers a variety of prepaid Singapore SIM card options suitable for tourists of all budgets and data needs. With the right prepaid SIM solution, visitors can easily stay connected during their travels in Singapore without going over budget.

Tourist』SIM!

(Travelex Currency Exchange Counters)

(Changi Recommends Counters)

hi tourist sim mrt

hi tourist sim mrt

hi tourist sim mrt

hi tourist sim mrt

1:hi! App

2:Singtelのサイト( hi.singtel.com )に飛ぶ

hi tourist sim mrt

1: www.singtel.com/hi

2:Manage Account

hi tourist sim mrt

hi tourist sim mrt

hi tourist sim mrt

hi tourist sim mrt

hi tourist sim mrt

Singapore Cruise Centre (Passenger Services) 1 Maritime Square, Singapore 099253

Mount Faber Station (Faber Peak Singapore) 109 Mount Faber Road, Singapore 099203

HarbourFront Station (HarbourFront Tower 2) 3 HarbourFront Place, Level 1, Singapore 099254

Sentosa Station (Imbiah Lookout, next to Gift Shop) 51 Imbiah Road, Singapore 099702

Merlion Station 2 Siloso Road, Singapore 098973

Siloso Point Station 81 Siloso Road, Singapore 098979

Imbiah Lookout Station 60 Imbiah Road, Singapore 098466

Sentosa Merlion 30 Imbiah Road, Singapore 099705

Wings of Time 60 Siloso Beach Walk, Singapore 098997

hi tourist sim mrt

hi tourist sim mrt

hi tourist sim mrt

I found the Singtel $15 hi!Tourist 2-in-1 SIM Card and it is exactly what I need for this trip :-) However, I can't find anywhere that will confirm that they actually sell them!

Even Singtel's website does not have a BUY NOW button for it.

Has anyone actually managed to buy one of these? and if so where from?

I will be staying near Fort Canning.

If you open this link and scroll down it has the SGD$15 one listed and a Buy Now button:-

https://www.singtel.com/personal/products-services/mobile/prepaid-plans/hi-sim-cards

Lots of locations to get one. Open this link and keep scrolling down the page:-

https://www.singtel.com/personal/products-services/mobile/prepaid-plans/collection-location-regular

Or were you looking for a different one?

hi tourist sim mrt

Hi, Avanti, the S$15 SIM is not the same as the 2-in-1 Tourist SIM. I noticed the lack of a Buy Now button on SingTel’s website for that SIM recently.

https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowTopic-g294262-i1747-k14332161-Sim_card-Singapore.html

SingTel has stopped the 2-in-1 SIM.

You can choose from the other options.

Thanks for trying but I'm afraid that's not the right one.

The one I'm looking for is a Singtel Tourist 2 in 1 $15 card that is an EZ Link card for the MRT and contains a sim card.

It's the only one on the Singtel website that doesn't have a BUY NOW button.

Thanks for that - i tried to contact Singtel about it but couldn't get a straight answer.

I wish they would remove it from their website if it's no longer available.

May be remaining stocks are still being sold which is why it’s in its website. With Singtel you don’t actually reserve the SIM card when you buy it on line. You just pay in advance and get a a recipient to collect it at any store within 30 days of the day you say you are going to collect it from. There is no guarantee that’s any particular store will have the card you want in stock at the time you want it.

' class=

Don't mean to hijack this thread but I ordered and paid for that $15 2-for-1 sim card for us to collect when we arrive at the end of this month...should i assume they won't have it anymore? I haven't received any emails saying otherwise.

Edward, you can go to the Travelex at T3, Level 1 to collect the card.

From where did you buy 2 in 1 tourist card ? Can you share the link please ?

hi tourist sim mrt

hi tourist sim mrt

hi tourist sim mrt

hi tourist sim mrt

hi tourist sim mrt
