Goa Itinerary for 5 days: The Most Reliable Goa Trip Plan

Every time someone asks me to recommend a Goa trip plan, I perform a little jig in my head! If you don’t know yet, Akshay and I, love Goa. It’s a place that we have visited over two dozen times in the last decade. It’s practically our second home and a place that we can’t seem to get enough of.

But that’s also why we feel sad when many people treat it like a long weekend destination. But, you? You are amazing because you’ve decided to spend at least 5 days in Goa. That’s also why you deserve access to the best Goa itinerary for 5 days available on the internet.

If you are spending 5 days in Goa, you should ideally spend 3 days in North Goa and 2 days in South Goa. The 3 days in North Goa should be spent exploring touristic Goa, unseen Goa and Panjim while 2 days in South Goa should be spent exploring beaches and touristic attractions between Benaulim and Palolem.

In this article, I will break down the perfect Goa itinerary for 5 day. I will give you details of tourist attractions, Goa beaches and Goa restaurants that you should visit. By the end of it, you will have your easy-to-follow Goa travel itinerary.

Are 5 days enough for a Goa trip?

Goa is a state of India and in fact, one with a slightly more distinct cultural and historic background than most of the other states in India. But, if you want to only visit the touristic attractions of Goa while also briefly acquainting yourself with its culture and present-day way of life, 5 days in Goa are enough.

How to commute within Goa?

The best way to travel within Goa is on a two-wheeler. You can easily get a scooter on rent for around Rs. 400 per day. If you don’t want to rent a scooter, opt for a rented car or use local cabs. Bargain heavily with local drivers as they tend to overcharge innocent tourists. In most tourist areas, you can also use Goa Miles : a cab booking app similar to Ola/Uber.

The most Epic Goa Itinerary for 5 Days

Day 1: touristy north goa.

On the first day in Goa, explore the touristy side of North Goa. Here are some of the places you should visit and places you should visit:

Have breakfast/brunch at a cute café

The touristy North Goa is full of cafés with pretty interiors and a smashing breakfast menu. Some of my favourite cafés are:

Café Chocolatti: Spacious outdoor seating, delicious frothy coffee and a kickass English Breakfast

Café Candolim: Cutest decor, a large collection of books and the best food

Café Artjuna: Artsy vibes, great food

Jaws Bakery : Budget bakery serving fresh lip-smacking breads, croissants and more.

Visit Fort Aguada, the biggest fort in Goa

The biggest fort in Goa and the biggest freshwater reserve in Asia is in the heart of North Goa. You must visit this place on a 5 day trip to Goa. It is close to Candolim and offers great views. But hey, it’s usually crowded and not super pretty anymore. Yet, it is a great starting point for your Goa trip.

Go parasailing at Sinquerim Beach

Indulge in watersport activities at Sinquerim beach. I think that the watersport infrastructure is the best at this beach. The presence of multiple vendors also means that you get better rates.

Enjoy a boat ride at Nerul River

Goa may be famous for its beaches, but it also has plenty of rivers running close to its coastline. A boat ride at Nerul river is a great opportunity to watch dolphins, splash around some cold river water and click pictures of the coastal paradise that Goa is.

Eat at a seafood restaurant

Seafood and particularly Konkani seafood is to die for! (I am a vegetarian but I have seen my husband Akshay get excited about seafood in Goa months before our trip!) Some places that serve fresh, yummy and flavourful seafood are:

The Lazy Goose : Located right under the Nerul Bridge, the place offers exotic views of the river and offers you a chance to indulge yourself with the best seafood.

Fat Fish : This restaurant packs a generous serving of delectable seafood on your plate.

Vinayak: The seafood thali perfectly satisfies your pangs especially when you’re ravenous and want everything yummy on your plate.

Watch a magnificent sunset

The best places to watch the sunset in the touristy side of North Goa are:

Chapora fort : Head to this fort, also known as the Dil Chahta Hai fort, for the best sunset views. Reach the top at least 30 minutes before sunset to get a good place on the wall. Also, visiting the Chapora fort involves a bit of a climb. So plan accordingly.

Vagator Beach: Vagator beach is also famous for its sunset. Located at the foot of the Chapora fort, you get to see the same sunset, albeit at a slightly lower angle. A better option is to watch the sunset, especially, if you are feeling lazy to climb the fort or if you are travelling with young kids.

Morgan’s Place Café/Café Purple Martini : If you want to sip on your choice of beverage while watching the changing hues of the sky, hanging out at any of these cafés would fulfill your wish like nothing else in Goa would. Purple Martini is usually super crowded and the balcony views come for a cost. Settle for Morgan’s Place if you want great views without hosting.

Party hard at a nightclub

North Goa is a great party hub with the best clubs like Hammerzz, Titos, SinQ, etc. Go here if you love partying!

Day 2: North Goa

It’s Day 2 in Goa and it’s time to explore the slightly offbeat beaches in Goa.

Parra Road is a narrow road with coconut trees on both sides that has recently gained popularity thanks to the movie ‘Dear Zindagi’. Visit the road for a classic Instagram shot.

Visit the famous Siolim Church

St. Anthony’s Church is a gorgeous church located in Siolim close to the Chapora River. It is not a popular tourist attraction but is nevertheless worth a visit for its architectural beauty.

Chill at Morjim Beach or Ashwem Beach

Morjim beach is one of the most deserted beaches in Goa. Even on a weekend, you will find it relatively empty. You can plonk yourself on one of the sunbeds and spend a chilled out day. Take breaks at the many shacks on the beach. Also, visit the Turtle Nesting Site to know more about how magical this beach is.

Experience the hippie vibe of Arambol

Arambol is known for its hippie vibe, yoga classes and drum circles. It is the place that attracted the most number of foreign (especially Russian) tourists. Visiting the place exposes you to a unique side of Goa- the one taken over by touristic preferences.

Visit the ‘Garden of Dreams’ – a fun restaurant with a hippie vibe and appetising vegan food.

Day 3: Panjim/Old Goa

Panjim, the capital of Goa, is nothing like the touristic Goa that you would see on Day 1 and Day 2. It is rich in Goan culture and is a place where you see the cathedrals, churches and even a few temples close by.

Basilica of Bom Jesus

This is one of the biggest and most visited cathedrals in all of Goa. In fact, it is also a UNESCO World Heritage site. Its unplastered exterior is uniquely attractive.

It holds the mortal remains of St. Francis Xaviers.

Entry to the cathedral is free. But on weekends and during peak tourist season, the place is very crowded. Expect long lines and a wait of about 20-30 minutes for entry.

On other days, you will get a fairly zero-hassle entry into the cathedral.

Mon to Sat – 9.00am to 6.30pm Sunday – 10.30am to 6.30pm

Se Cathedral

This Cathedral is situated right opposite the Basilica. Its Gothic architecture is attractive.

The Cathedral is famous for its Cross of Miracles.

Church of St Francis of Assisi

This Church is right next to the Se Cathedral. It was built to celebrate the victory of Afonso de Albuquerque over the Muslim army.

In fact, the road leading to the Church is also very picturesque and one of the best places to capture a stunning picture of all the churches and cathedrals.

There is also an archeological museum here that’s open on all 7 days. (9.00am – 12.30 and 3.00pm to 6.30)

The church is not open for tourists on Sunday.

Mangueshi temple

After the Christian side of Goa, it is now time to visit the Mangueshi temple.

The Mangueshi temple was a very important place of worship in Goa since many centuries. In the 16th century, the Gaud Saraswats (the community that worships Goddess Mangueshi) moved the temple from its old location to its present location with a view to protect it from the Portuguese invasion.

The temple has been restored a few times and not only does it look pleasing but it also exudes a serene vibe.

Eat at Ritz, Panjim

Ritz is one of the best seafood restaurants in Goa. It’s a favourite amongst both – Goan tourists and Goan locals. So while you are in the very neighbourhood of Ritz, it make absolutely no sense for you to skip Ritz from your itinerary.

So go to Ritz and order a sumptuous Fish thali for yourself. (And if you are vegetarian like me – just order their kokam solkadhi alongwith your favourite main dish and watch the satisfied faces of fish lovers around you!)

Foutainhas / Our Lady of Immaculate Conception Church

The perfect afternoon walk would be through the lanes of the Fountainhas.

Fountainhas is the colourful quarter in Goa that retains Portuguese style houses.

You can go here for a nice post-lunch walk, for a quick bite at one of its bakeries or to get a picture clicked against the backdrop of one of its colourful houses to jazz up your Instagram.

Follow up your Foutainhas visit with a quick visit to the famous Immaculate Conception Church. You would recognize the church immediately because of its many Bollywood appearances. Again, a great place for a classic #goatrip picture for the gram

Miramar/Dona Paula

Close your day with a walk along Miramar beach. Miramar beach is one of the most non-touristy beaches of Goa. It is beach that’s most frequented by the locals of Goa.

But even though it doesn’t have too many touristy shacks, it’s a lovely place to wind down after a sightseeing-heavy day.

If an urban beach doesn’t excite you, you can visit the famous Dona Paula jetty.

Dona Paula jetty is also a famous filming location in Goa.

Day 4: South Goa Attractions

Start your day down south with a visit to some of the famous tourist places in South Goa

Naval aviation museum

Mind you, this is the only naval museum in Asia!

Plus, it is also one of the only two military museums in India.

If you love aircrafts, you’re in for a treat as the naval musuem houses 13 aircrafts.

Plus, the museum is designed to look like the interior of the aircraft carrier – INS Viraat – how cool is that!

Timings: Tuesday to Sunday from 9.30am to 5.30pm

Big Foot/Ancestral Goa

The Big Foot and Ancestral Portuguese House are located right next to each other.

One is a recreation of a typical Goan village. You will see life-sized statues of fishermen, rice farmers, etc. You will also see the statue of Mirabai (record-holder for being carved from a single stone).

I think the place is a great place to educate children and foreigners about the history of Goa and Goa’s typical village life.

Right next to the Big Foot is the Ancestral Portuguese House – Casa Araujo Alvares. It is a 250-year old house of a renowned lawyer.

A 20-minute guided tour takes you around the many rooms of the house. An excellent way to experience life as it was two centuries ago!

The house has also appeared in the Bollywood movie Singham.

Colva Beach/Benaulim Beach

You should end your South Goa sightseeing day with a trip to Colva Beach or Benaulim Beach.

Colva beach

• it is more crowded and attracts many Indian tourists
• it has plenty of stalls outside selling icecreams
• its silvery sand is great for a family outing or simply for people-watching

Benaulim beach

• Benaulim beach has some of the best beachside shacks in South Goa. Roger’s and Rafaels are particularly famous. You can even enjoy a quiet, romantic candle-light dinner here after sunset.
• You can enjoy some watersport activities here before sunset.
• Even though both Indians and foreigners love this beach, it’s usually less crowded than Colva

Day 5: South Goan beaches

The beaches in South Goa are scenic and far less crowded than North Goan beaches.

They are a great escape from the touristy madness of the North.

Today, visit a few of the beaches from the list below:

Mobor beach

This wonderful Cavelossim beach is usually pretty deserted. Its white sand would light up your drone shots.

But even if you don’t have a drone, it’s a great place for a quick breakfast, a romantic walk with your loved one or a game of football with kids!

There are many good places to stay in Cavelossim for couples and family travellers.

Agonda beach

This beach is one of the southern-most beaches in Goa.

The 2020 cyclone Nisarga damaged many of its beachside shacks. But today, without an army of beachside huts and restaurants, the beach looks even more stunning. The palm trees lining the shore add to its appeal. It’s quiet, deserted and encapsulates the beauty of raw Goa – Goa without tourism.

Palolem beach

If you like a slightly more vibey beach, visit Palolem beach.

It is as stunning as Agonda but adds a little touristy air to it with its beachside shacks and souvenir shops.

You can even take boats from here to go

• eagle-feeding
• island hopping to monkey and honeymoon islands
• dolphin watching

There are many good places to stay in Palolem, especially for group travellers and solo travellers.

Some wonderful restaurants in this area worth trying out are

• Ciaran’s – wholesome Indian food
• German bakery – delicious croissants and more!
• Kopi Desa – lovely ambiance, tasty food

Cabo de Rama

Cabo de Rama is one of the most special places in Goa. The cliff at the top is truly the best place in all of Goa to capture the Goan coastline decorated with coconut and palm trees around.

You can even climb down to the secluded little cove – Cabo de Rama beach to witness the most spectacular sunset in Goa.

The road leading to Cabo de Rama is pretty secluded with very few shops or houses along the way. Avoid wandering around alone in this area after sunset.

The 5-day Goa itinerary given above is a recommended itinerary. You do not need to strictly adhere to it or feel overwhelmed by it.

Goa is a state that’s unlike any Indian state and no matter how you spend your time in Goa, you are going to have a great time!

Some ways to personalize your Goa itinerary are:

• Ditch tourist places that don’t match your travel style – e.g., skip Old Goa if you’re not into churches or history.
• Add more beach time : If you are a beach bum, skip Panajim and hang out longer at beaches you like. You don’t even have to visit them all. If the beach close to the area you are staying in matches your liking, just spend your days there.
• Add more adventure: You can add more adventure to your itinerary by trying out watersports at Sinquerim beach in North Goa or Benaulim in South. You can even go boating at the Nerul river. Go on this incredible bungee jumping tour in Goa.

How to Manage Your Goa Solo Trip Budget Below 11k for 1 Month?

• Adjusting Budget Traveler – If you are adapting according to the situation traveler,  for e.x –  No problem, we will travel on the local buses in Goa, kind of a traveler.

If you’ll ask me –

I am very adaptable & strict about my budget. I always try to create various opportunities for myself to save a little.

If the circumstance arises, I am even ready to directly skip my breakfast to eat brunch (breakfast + lunch).

So, if you’re an Adjusting sort of budget traveler, on that note, your Goa Solo trip budget will be remarkable.

Below are the pointers which had helped me, and I will be helping you to achieve your Goa trip budget goal as well –

1. Onwards – Backwards Journey

The preparation to Spend One Exciting Month in Goa under Rs.11,000 starts before departure. Your purpose should be to travel to Goa by train unless you have a coupon that offers a great discount by air.

You can choose Rajdhani Express and other trains which take more time & cost less. Remember, the motive of the article is to minimize the Goa trip budget.

The trains, such as Goa Sampark Kranti Express and Mangala Lakshwadeep Express, cost less but take more time.

The article will concentrate on 1 Month of exploration, and I believe that time will not be a problem. Moreover, the sleeper coach will cost you under Rs.1000; for 3A, it’s beneath Rs. 2000.

Note –  The train seats get reserved quickly. Therefore, it’s advisable to book as early as feasible.

Things to Enquire Before Starting Volunteering Work

• You must check the property thoroughly that you are becoming a part of.
• You must check what you’ll need to do & in exchange, what will be provided to you as a benefit in business .
• The no. of hours you will be Volunteering per Day. And the no. of days that you’ll be doing.

The Volunteering work acts as a helping hand for the property.

That can also be a perfect way to experience the culture & traditions apart from traveling to Goa for a month.

3. Travel Using Goa Local Transport

Goa Local transport is affordable & convenient for visitors to see around.

You’ll need to sacrifice the rented scooter/bike & should have to wait patiently for the Goa local buses to arrive.

I have stated above that Sacrifice and Patience will examine you if you want to conclude the Goa trip budget beneath Rs.11,000 for a month.

The rented scooter in Goa will cost you around Rs everywhere. 200-300 per Day + Petrol cost. On the other hand, the bus charges a minimum of Rs.20-30 to reach a particular place.

If you traveled using the local bus transport daily, your per-day bus expenses would not exceed your Goa budget trip. Also, during a month in Goa, you won’t be going out all the time and every Day. Hence, you must pay for the rented scooter/bike daily.

Using Goa’s local bus service , you can commute to almost everywhere in Goa & that too affordably.

If you are traveling for the first time in Goa Then, you will easily be fascinated by low-cost rental vehicles.

You can also take lifts on the roadside.

You will find a lot of foreigners & they are helpful if you need a lift. So sometimes you’ll get help as needed, and often you won’t.

Just don’t worry! Haha

You can decide to walk, but you will hardly spot anyone walking around. That will be your hard time moving alone in the heat.

But you can do one thing, which I have also done. Plugin your earphones and keep walking. If you find someone who can give you help, take it, and if not, keep moving.

4. Food to Eat in Goa

Let’s recall point two a little if you had chosen to Volunteer at a property. They will be going to provide you with a stay and food.

So, the food problem is solved.

When the Volunteering place, going to provide you with a stay only. Then, it would help if you ate from the local eateries in Goa.

Most of the local establishments which I had seen offer only two things on the menu –

That can satisfy your stomach, and you’ll get to sense the local food of Goa. Moreover, you can have your entire Day’s food in the Goa local eateries for under Rs. 200 – 250 per Day. Food is essential to your trip anywhere, and what’s better than saving a few bucks on food in Goa ?

You can even have a Samosa Pav in the evening or at night. It will be light, and you will feel solid and connected to the unique local Goa combination of food.

I got addicted to the Samosa Pav and ate two in the morning and two in the evening.

The Samosa Pav had become my routine towards the end of the month. The Samosa Pav will cost you around Rs.20 (I can’t tell if the rates increased), which will be effective.

I want that you should experience the Goa culture. Food is an essential element that describes a culture.

It will be enough for your one-time meal if you eat a Veg Thali/Fish Thali.

Rest depends upon your capacity and stamina.

5. Cheat Day

For once in 10 days, you can cheat all the above points.

e.x- You can eat in restaurants around the beaches or anywhere else.

3 Cheat days in a month are acceptable, but beyond that will surpass your Goa Solo Trip Budget.

6. Choosing the Most Convenient Time for a Day-Out

Try to move out to explore in the evening because it would become pleasing and relaxing. Even you will feel comfortable when you choose to walk around.

Assume you had chosen to go out on a hot sunny day, then it’s clear that your stamina will give up quickly.

7. Showing Your Skills on the Beaches of Goa

Goa beaches attract crowds from all over the world. But don’t forget the happening environment that people create on the beaches.

Most tourists come along the seashore and show their skills. For example, they made a seashell, handmade eatables, or a foot massage service. Everyone will be involved in some activity in the evening on the beaches. That acts as the best way to stay longer in Goa.

Suppose you want to do something related but don’t know what to do! Just go there and see what everyone is doing and what value you can add to other experiences.

The beaches like Arambol & Morjim are known for the activities on the beachside.

How much does it cost to visit Goa? If you are planning to visit Goa, I am sure this question must be on your mind. I can assure you, if you plan a trip well and in advance, you can keep your trip under budget.

The cost of a Goa trip depends on many factors. Duration of visit, time of the year you are visiting, mode of the external transport, activities you choose to cover, etc. are some of the most important things that affect the cost of a trip to Goa.

Goa is a beautiful state and I love everything about it, the beaches, churches, traditional markets, everything. That is the reason I keep going back. What I love most about Goa is that it is one of those travel destinations that can be luxurious and backpacker-friendly at the same time. Depending on what you prefer, you can determine the cost of your Goa trip. In this blog, I help you find the answer to your question- how much does it cost to visit Goa?

Not everything in Goa has a price tag. There are certain places and things in Goa that you can without paying a dime. Entry to the beaches is free and so is going on trekking trails around the state.

How much does it cost to visit Goa: Top 6 Expenses 

Goa is the perfect place for a vacation. It is not only a great place for a trip with your friends, but it is also a favourite among solo travellers and family travellers.

Before I go into the details of the Goa trip cost, here is a quick overview:

Cost of a trip to Goa is based on how long you’ll be staying

The first factor that will determine the cost of your Goa trip is the number of days you plan to visit Goa. Goa is the kind of place where you can stay for as long as possible. It is also a perfect week

If you are travelling to Goa for the first time, I would suggest that you plan a trip for at least 5 days. The cost of a 5-day budget trip to Goa from a city like Delhi will be a little under 20000 INR . In these 5 days, you will be able to cover most of the important places in Goa.

A week is also an ideal amount of time for visiting Goa if you are visiting for the first time. In seven days time, you can easily cover the cost of North and south Goa.  A weeklong budget vacation  in Goa (from Delhi) will cost about 22000 INR . The cost includes everything – transport, food, water sports, etc.)

As you can see there is not much difference between the cost of 5 days and the cost of 7 days in Goa. This is because the majority of the cost incurred is on external transport. I would stay plan a longer stay to justify the cost, especially if you are visiting from a distant area.

Trains are the most cost-efficient way of travelling in Goa. There are three main railway stations in Goa – Thivim, Vasco De Gama and Madgaon. These stations are connected with all the major towns and cities across India.

Cost of External Transport to Goa & How to lower it?

If you are not from around Goa, the cost of travelling to and from Goa will form the bulk of your Goa trip cost. There are three ways in which you can reach the Goa – bus, train and flights.

I have given below the cost estimates of travelling to Goa via each of these options from India’s five major cities. If you are travelling to Goa from outside India, you also need to add the costs of flights up till these cities.

Cost of Travelling to Goa by Train – The most Pocket-Friendly Option

Irrespective of which city in India you plan to visit, Goa is very well connected by a network of railways. Trains are also the most cost-effective way to reach Goa. There are three main railway stations in Goa- Thivim, Vasco De Gama and Madgaon. Depending on your boarding destination, you can find trains to one or all of these railway stations in Goa.

If you are coming from Delhi, I would suggest you take the Rajdhani Express. Of all the trains on this route, Rajdhani is the fastest and includes all the meals. However, there is no sleeper coach on the train and 3- Tier Ac coach is the cheapest (3600 INR).

Similarly, from Mumbai, you can find many trains on the routes all day, so finding a train would not be difficult. However, when it comes to other cities, the train service is limited. For example, there is one direct train from Howrah Junction to Vasco De Gama and Madgaon junctions and it runs on alternate days.

If you are travelling to Goa from Chennai there is only one direct train from Chennai to Goa and it runs every Friday.

Cost of Travelling to Goa by Bus- Valid for only a few Cities 

Goa is very close to two major Indian cities- Bangalore and Mumbai. You can travel to Goa from these cities by bus.

You can choose from a number of buses, including sleeper, AC sleeper, AC seater etc. There are a number of private and government bus services on these routes.

Cost of Travelling to Goa by Flights – Pocket-Friendly? Only sometimes 

Travelling by air is the fastest option to reach Goa, but it is also the most expensive. There are frequent flights at different times from each of the major cities.

If you are keen on saving time, I would suggest that you book your flights well in advance to avoid any last-minute surges.

Save Money by choosing these Budget Accommodation options 

As with other popular destinations, during the peak season, the cost of accommodation in Goa tends to stay high. November to early February is the most visited time of the year in Goa. So, if you plan to visit Goa during this time, be prepared to shell out extra accommodations.

February to October is a relatively less busy time for Goa. You can find quiet spots on the beaches and it’s not a task to find suitable budget accommodation. How much does it cost to visit Goa would also depend on the accommodation you choose Here’s a quick tip from my side: If you are travelling as a couple or group, you can either book an entire apartment, choose a guest house or stay in a budget hotel.

If you are travelling alone, the best way to cut accommodation costs is to crash in a hostel. The most amazing part about Goa is that it has some of the best backpacker hostels. Goa has excellent local bus connectivity. The buses are frequent, cheap and connect all points of interest including the beaches. This is how a local private bus in Goa looks on the inside.

How to move around Goa, without paying too much?

Another major factor that determines the answer to your question of how much does a Goa trip cost, is the type of transportation option you choose.

When you are travelling within Goa, there are several options you can choose from There are local buses, ferries, taxis and autos. Below I have given a brief overview of each of these options and the costs associated with each one these.

Hop onto the Local Buses in Goa

Local buses are one of the best and cheapest modes of travelling in Goa. Goa has a great network of buses. There are plenty of buses that ply between 7 am to 7 pm.  So, whether you wish to travel to the beaches or just explore the local culture, I suggest you take the buses.

You can even take a bus if you want to go beach hopping- from Candolim to Calangute, Calangute to Baga, Baga to Anjuna and so on! Just ask any bus coming in your direction (there will be many every few minutes)  where it is going and hop on.

The main bus stations in Goa are at Mapusa, Panjim, Vasco da Gama, Margao or Madgaon) and Canacona. Panjim is the main stop and you can easily find buses from Panjim to Old Goa, Baga Beach, Calangute Beach, Vagator Beach, etc.

Madgaon bus station is another major bus stop. From here you can find buses to Panjim, Ponda (for Elephant Bathing and Spice Plantations) Vagator Beach, Anjuna Beach, Baga Beach, Calangute Beach, etc.

Try the Pilots in Goa

This is something really interesting in Goa. Pilots basically mean taking a pillion ride with someone on a bike. If you are a solo traveller, you can use these bike rides for getting from one place to another. Although they are more expensive than buses, they are faster for sure.

Explore Goa on your own, drive Cars/ Two-wheelers

This by far, is the most convenient way to explore Goa, only if you know how to drive, of course! Trust me, there is nothing easier in Goa than finding a scooter or car rental.

You can easily rent a two-wheeler like bikes or scooters, almost everywhere in Goa. They charge on a per day basis and you have to add the fuel costs.

Hire Taxis and Auto Rickshaws in Goa Only if budget isn’t one of your problems

Although they are easily available, taxis and autos are the least cost-effective. These are the most expensive means to travel in Goa. You must know that the taxis and Autos don’t go by the metre and charge at their own will.

If you plan to use these services, negotiate beforehand to avoid any last-minute surprises.

Take a Ferry wherever you can   

Some places in Goa are connected by ferry services. These ferries are time saving and cost-effective. The only problem is that most of the times they are super crowded.

The ferries connect a very few locations in Goa. Here are some important routes connected by ferries –

• Old Goa and Divar Island
• Ribander and Chorao for Dr Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary
• Querim and Tiracol
• Cavelossim and Assolna
• Panaji and Betim
• Cortalim and Madkaim for reaching Old Goa from Margao

Water Sports are expensive in Goa, especially during the peak seasons. You can enjoy water sports at all the major beaches in Goa. That is me ready for my parasailing flight at Calangute

What is the Cost of Sightseeing & Exploring Goa?

Sightseeing costs would depend on what places you intend to cover. While beaches are free to visit, not every place is. Here are some of the costs for some of the most in-demand activities.

How much do the Watersports cost in Goa?

When you are n Goa, you might want to enjoy some watersports. You can enjoy activities such as banana boat ride, windsurfing, jet Ski, Parasailing, etc. There are many packages available at the beaches for watersports. One of the most popular is for 2000 INR. This includes parasailing, jet ski, speed boat ride, etc.

I suggest you keep no more than 2500 INR for the activities.

Can you take a Cruise on a tight budget?

Goa is well known for its cruises. I would recommend you take the sunset river cruise and dolphin cruise. The cost per person is around 500 INR and 300 INR respectively.

Parties & Casinos Entry Costs are way higher than you imagined

Parties and Casinos are expensive. If you want your Goa trip to be on a budget, I would recommend you avoid these. You may have to shell out between 2000 and 5000 INR for a single party or visit a casino.

Sightseeing Costs are not a problem for Indians

Here are museums and forts that you need to pay a slight fee to visit. Most of the places have a nominal fee of about 20- 50 INR. These costs are going to be higher for foreign nationals.

Save Money on Food by choosing the right options 

There are a number of food options in Goa. You can save money on food by avoiding too many alcoholic drinks and eating local food. Food will cost around 500 INR per day.

Miscellaneous Costs of Goa Trip

Other than all the things that I have mentioned above, you might also want to spend on other things, for example – shopping. Goa is a haven for shopaholics. The street-side markets and beach markets are an absolute delight and are easy on the pocket if you can bargain well.

I am assuming the miscellaneous costs to be 2000 INR per person. Although, this is another place where you can cut down costs.

7 Places & Things to do in Goa that are absolutely FREE

While parties and casinos in Goa can be a costly affair, there are some things that you can enjoy for free. Here are the top 7 places to see and things to do in Goa that won’t cost a dime:

• Chill at the beaches –  There is no entry to any of the beaches in Goa.  Go beach hopping and enjoy the sun and the sand at zero cost. Although if you wish to rent out a sunbed that would cost somewhere around 100-300 INR per bed per hour.
• Explore Goa’s cultural heritage –  Goa is a wonderful spot for photographers, and I am not even talking about beaches here. Go explore old Goa and Panjim to explore the rich cultural heritage.
• Pay your respects at Goa’s Temples & Churches –  There are many significant churches and temples in Goa. You can visit them for free. If like me you love architecture, you will absolutely love it.
• Explore the local markets of Goa –  Most popular beaches like Calangute, Baga, Anjuna have lovely beach markets that you can explore. Other than that you can also visit the old market in Mapusa and Panim to get a feel of the local markets in Goa.
• Trekking along Goa’s nature trails – If you love short hikes, Goa is just the perfect place. You will find plenty of hiking trails all over Goa that you can do for free. All you need is a water bottle and a good pair of shoes.
• Transverse through the Ruins of Chapora Fort & Cabo De Rama –   While there is an entry in some museums and forts, visiting Chapora Fort and Cabo de Rama is absolutely free.

Opinion | your view: lehigh valley residents are missing out on travel opportunities.

Spring break is upon us, and with travel plans being made, Americans are once again reminded of how expensive travel has become. Working-class Americans especially feel this impact as a noncompetitive market boxes out smaller carriers who could provide lower travel costs to working-class American families in smaller cities across the country looking for a weekend getaway.

There is a solution to this problem, ultra-low-cost carriers offering reduced fares and more travel alternatives.

The larger, broader problem, however: Proposed joint ventures between lower cost carriers are being ignored by the U.S. Department of Transportation. Joint ventures between more affordable airlines have the potential to create competition in the industry, improve the greater economic and cultural connectivity between the U.S. and other nations, and reduce aviation carbon emissions via increased nonstop routes, especially to Mexico — the most frequent international destination for U.S. travelers.

Most importantly, joint ventures increase access to affordable flights with reduced fares and alternatives for working-class Americans in underserved cities, an effort I worked toward during my time serving the people of Pennsylvania while in Congress.

Ultra-low-cost carriers offer some of the lowest fares in the U.S., with a core focus on promoting nonstop, direct flights from underserved U.S. cities. These carriers — airlines such as Allegiant Air, Avelo and others — serve small-to-mid-sized city markets by providing cost and time saving flight options. Approving potential joint ventures between them sounds like a simple, nonpartisan action that the Biden administration would support, as it is clearly a win-win for American consumers and businesses — right?

Unfortunately, the answer is no.

The Biden administration has instead decided to suspend consideration of such proposals over broad geopolitical concerns. The administration continues to play this game, but what it fails to realize is that American voters decide U.S. elections, not foreign affairs.

In such a critical election year, it is in the Biden administration’s best interest to put politics aside and realize that joint venture solutions benefit all Americans who desperately desire policies that will help their wallet after two inflation-heavy years.

Underserved cities across the country, including cities like Allentown, would greatly benefit from joint ventures, such as one proposed by Allegiant Air and Viva Aerobus. They would connect Pennsylvanian cities with Mexican resorts so hardworking parents and their kids could enjoy spring break like other American families across the country.

Smaller airports such as Lehigh Valley International Airport are experiencing meaningful loss of service and frequency due to a lack of direct service, a direct impact to residents in the area. But this impact is not just felt in Pennsylvania, but across small-to-mid-sized cities across the country, in states like Illinois, West Virginia and Nebraska. The result: Not only do local economies suffer, but Americans are being unfairly punished with fewer opportunities to travel directly and affordably.

The Biden administration understands these benefits, yet still proceeds to go against its core principles and ignore how these agreements could improve economic connectivity between the U.S. and Mexico. The approval of joint ventures, such as those proposed by carriers like Delta Airlines or Allegiant Air, would greatly increase nonstop service between underserved cities in the U.S. and popular vacation destinations.

Tourism benefits greatly from joint ventures, and they also improve the bilateral relationship between the U.S. and other countries by establishing greater cultural connectivity and simplifying air travel options for families split between two countries.

Overall, ultra-low-cost carriers’ joint ventures could serve as a crucial step toward making air travel more affordable, accessible and environmentally friendly for working-class Americans. It aligns with principles of the Biden administration — promoting competition, reducing costs and supporting underserved communities.

By suspending consideration of such ventures, the administration is hurting the very people it claims to protect and missing an opportunity to strengthen bilateral relationships worldwide. It’s time for the Biden administration and Department of Transportation to put politics aside and prioritize the needs of everyday Americans.

Approving the joint ventures is a win-win scenario that would benefit working-class Americans in small and mid-sized American cities, like those in Pennsylvania, while also fostering international cooperation.
