Would you pay $2,500 for an (almost) all-you-can-travel subscription?

Inspirato_pass_monthly

Editor's Note

If the successes — and failures — of subscription-based businesses such as Rent the Runway, ClassPass, MoviePass and JetSmarter have proven anything, it's that subscriptions aren't just for magazines and newspapers anymore.

So, why not have a subscription for travel?

That's exactly what Denver, Colorado-based luxury travel company Inspirato launched last year.

With Inspirato Pass, you can book a nearly endless number of stays or trips (transportation and incidentals are not included) for a monthly subscription fee starting at $2,500, or $30,000 for a year. There are no nightly rates, taxes or pesky fees to contend with, whether you stay in a luxury villa, high-end hotel or resort, or take a cruise or safari. There are more than 150,000 trips available for Inspirato Pass members to choose from — the catalog is updated daily — and you can book up to a year in advance. Inspirato also provides pre-trip planning assistance, access to a vacation advisor, on-site concierge service, partner privileges, housekeeping and discounts.

This week, Inspirato announced some exciting new tweaks to the Inspirato Pass . Members will receive a complimentary membership to the Inspirato Club — with booking privileges and the ability to pay nightly rates — and there's no longer a long-term commitment. After paying a one-time enrollment fee of $2,500 (meaning you'll owe $5,000 the first month) you can now cancel your subscription at any time. Best of all, there are now trips with check-in dates as early as two days away: perfect for spontaneous weekend getaways .

Homes are owned and managed directly by Inspirato so, unlike Airbnb Luxe or most other luxury vacation rental providers , you're not staying in homes that are managed by third parties or professional vacation rental managers. Hotel and resort partners include brands like Mandarin Oriental; Marriott's Ritz-Carlton and Edition properties; Waldorf Astoria and Conrad hotels by Hilton; Rosewood and other luxury independents. Cruises are from Silversea and Lindblad Expeditions, while safaris are crafted by andBeyond . The list of experiences also now includes bespoke, private dinners in New York City , an art tour in Marfa, Texas and trips to a luxury dude ranch in Colorado.

One catch, however, is that you can't book your next trip until you check out of your current one. This conundrum can only be resolved if you purchase a second pass: $5,000 for two enrollment fees, $2,500 a month for the first pass and $2,200 for the second (or $4,700 per month) for two active reservations at a time. You can also share your subscription with family members for $300 a month.

Screenshot of Inspirato website.

Last year, Mikki Cardoza, owner of Northern California-based MikkiMoves Real Estate, told TPG it "wasn't such an easy decision" to purchase an Inspirato Pass "because it's a pretty costly option."

Cardoza spent more to share the membership and "upgraded" to have two reservations at once, though these features no longer work quite the same way (the membership needs to stay in the family, for example). Still, she said she found herself using it all the time, for a weekend getaway to Carmel Valley with her dog and husband, and to stay at a Waldorf Astoria hotel during a work convention. "It was a fun upgrade for no stress," she said.

"When I'm looking at trips [available on Inspirato Pass], it really appeals to my personality because I don't have to worry about the price and I can just take anything off the plate."

"What you pay versus what you would be having to pay," is what sold Michael Shaw, the owner of Colorado- and South Texas-based Mike Shaw Automotive dealerships on the Inspirato Pass. Like Cardoza, he opted for the Pass that allows two reservations to be booked at a time (travelers will now have to purchase two separate passes for this flexibility) and the option to share, and he's been pleased with his trips to Jackson Hole, the British Virgin Islands and Park City .

"With the flat fee you don't have to evaluate whether this place is too much or, if you have more people, will that be too much for them?" Shaw said last year. "You can just look at what you want to do, where are those days available and what's the most I can get? Sometimes you get overvalued for the money you're paying."

But is it too good to be true?

That's exactly what Cardoza initially suspected but, she said, she's starting to understand how it works — and how it's been designed so people benefit from the subscription , but also don't overuse it to extinction so it experiences the same fate of MoviePass.

Cardoza said she kept a spreadsheet of her trips booked using Inspirato Pass. "At first I couldn't understand how Inspirato is making money," but, she said, she's noted "some limitations," especially that she can only have two reservations booked at any one time.

luxury travel pass

"I have to wait until one reservation is completed in order to make the next one," she explained. Juggling the timing of making a booking with availability can be a bit of a challenge.

"In Vegas , I could see lots of places that met my schedule and needs, but by the time I could make the reservation, I had limited access," Cardoza explained. "Things disappear because people are using them."

Inspirato founder and CEO Brent Handler told TPG he and his team spent four years trying to come up with a high-end travel subscription model "that's simple to buy, simple to use and simple to service." Prior to launching the pass, Inspirato solely offered a more traditional luxury travel membership club, of which there are 18,000 members and counting.

What enables Inspirato to avoid the fate of a subscription service like MoviePass or JetSmarter , he said last year, is that Inspirato and its hotel and experience partners, more or less, own the inventory, and the subscription model they've designed helps them manage excess capacity. The hotel and resort partners also prefer working with a partner like Inspirato Pass to book up their unused inventory because the nightly rates aren't displayed like they might be on a last-minute hotel booking site such as HotelTonight.

"Can we come up with a subscription where people would want access to our inventory that wasn't all going to get booked? It's not all low-season inventory," Handler explained. "We figured out we could come up with a subscription where they'd pay a monthly fee and they would get access to this inventory, similar to how Rent the Runway or Disney FastPasses or Netflix works. As soon as you're done with your reservation you can book your next one."

Handler added, "Because hotels have inventory that isn't going to get used, we can get that inventory and pass tremendous value along to our Pass holders. It might be that a Pass holder wants to go to Paris in a month and if they called the hotel, it might cost $5,000 a night but we, at Inspirato, might be getting that hotel for only $2,300 a night."

In this instance, the customer doesn't have to worry about the nightly rate, and the hotel drives up its occupancy.

Paul Tumpowsky, CEO of New York-based luxury travel company Skylark , said last year that Inspirato's subscription model "is interesting and it does seem like, for the right type of flexible customer, they could probably take at least three to four really great vacations a year." He added, "You'd have to be very flexible to make the most out of this," but the way Inspirato has designed the subscription really maximizes their ability to fill the inventory it has in terms of homes and hotel rooms.

luxury travel pass

Handler said Inspirato Pass "works really well for people who don't have children in school , and have flexibility in their schedules. It also works well with families who do have children at home but can travel multiple times a year."

And with so many people learning and working remotely due to COVID-19, it makes sense Inspirato would pick now to revamp the product.

"The pent-up demand for travel is increasing during these times of isolation and the need to book safe, reliable and flexible trips is paramount at this time," Handler told TPG. "By transitioning to a full subscription model across both Pass and the Club it helps our members prioritize their vacations in a stress-free environment ."

Case in point: Pass reservations can be canceled at any time, up to 72 hours before arrival, with no penalty whatsoever. Inspirato has also introduced enhanced cleaning and safety standards that can be strictly enforced since, unlike a standard vacation rental property, Inspirato "manages and controls ... [its] collection of branded vacation homes."

"With many people able to work remotely for the first time ever, Inspirato provides them with the reassurance that their health and safety will be maintained," Handler added.

Last year, Tumpowsky said, "In all honestly, maybe it seems like it could be a repackaging of the vacation club concept , but there are lower expectations because you're paying less and making sure there's tons of inventory,".

Handler thinks Inspirato Pass, however, is not at all like a traditional luxury timeshare or membership club because the investment isn't as high and there are no nightly rates, points or rules involved.

"Luxury travel, as a rule, is highly idiosyncratic," Handler said. "It can be like airline tickets . Sometimes it's $4,700 and other times, it might be only $1,800. When we did our research, we found that affluent consumers had high disdain for nightly rates. They didn't understand them and they felt funny paying them. Why would a 450-square-foot hotel room cost $1,300 one night, and $2,000 another night?"

Handler says that during the beta testing of the Inspirato Pass, which took place in June of 2019 in Colorado and the Bay Area of Northern California, the company sold 100 passes. Following the launch in July of last year, the company was "selling north of 20 [passes] a day."

Even now, despite travel coming nearly to a halt all over the globe, Inspirato says August 2020 sales exceeded the initial forecast.

Can the Inspirato Pass be improved?

As Cardoza noted last year, timing your trips as an Inspirato Pass holder can be a bit of a challenge.

She said while she finds value in being an Inspirato Pass holder, "It does take effort ... and there is a little bit of a stress factor that I have to pay attention to," in reference to the booking and timing of trips.

Villa Piedras, Los Veneros Resort Residences & Beach Club, Punta de Mita, Mexico

For more complicated trips, both Cardoza and Shaw said they were sticking with luxury travel agents instead, though they agreed that, increasingly, Inspirato Pass was becoming their first go-to option for booking most travel.

"If I were to plan for a big trip with Inspirato Pass well in advance, I wouldn't be able to make another reservation for a long time," Cardoza said. "It would have to be something really amazing, otherwise I would feel like I'm just prepaying it."

Shaw also said the number of available experiences on Inspirato Pass can be a bit overwhelming — and that was when the inventory was around 60,000. Over the last year, that number has more than doubled.

Unfortunately, Inspirato Pass still doesn't have the ability to connect with loyalty programs .

Last year, Handler said there was interest from hotel partners. "We would very much like to be loyalty positive, so to speak, from an earn standpoint," he said. But Inspirato confirmed that, like booking through any online travel agency or a third party, there's no link to a traveler's loyalty program memberships.

Advice for Potential Subscribers

Cardoza and Shaw both said that for anyone considering buying an Inspirato Pass, it's essential that you make the most of your subscription.

luxury travel pass

"Be diligent about scheduling the next trip — and the next trip," Cardoza said.

"I would say check it out for sure, but just make sure you put it to good use just like any other subscription you're paying for," Shaw said. "It's an incredible value if you use it. It's been great so far," Shaw said last year, adding that he thought it would "only [get] better."

Handler and his team said, "We're hyper-focused on making the experience better and better, especially by adding more hotels, experiences, residences and continuing to grow the portfolio. The larger and better the portfolio, the more Pass holders, and the more inventory we're able to acquire. There's that network effect that's happening. The better we make it, the more people want to be a part of it."

And for those who doubt the soundness of this subscription model, Handler said, "There is a lot of inefficiency in luxury travel market thanks to high costs, low variable costs and low occupancy. We're filling in the void of the excess capacity that exists in luxury hotels and homes and making them useful when they would otherwise be empty. It's not dissimilar to what Uber did when people had excess capacity in their cars. We're doing the same thing with unsold hotel rooms and homes."

Luxury travel without the luxury price tag: That’s the dream of many travel optimizers, myself included. It’s why I got into points and miles in the first place, and one of the reasons why I was interested in Inspirato Pass, a luxury travel subscription service.

Here’s the idea behind Inspirato Pass: For a flat monthly fee (currently $2,500 per month), you can book luxury accommodation throughout Inspirato’s global portfolio. You don’t get charged extra fees, taxes or anything else — no matter what property you book.

What’s alluring about this proposition is the quality of some offerings within the portfolio, which includes seaside villas, condos in Hawaii, five-star hotels around the world and hundreds of other properties that would qualify as once-in-a-lifetime travel experiences.

luxury travel pass

(Note: Inspirato also offers an unrelated “Club” option that allows a la carte reservations of these properties. This review covers Inspirato Pass, not Inspirato Club.)

Obviously, $2,500 a month isn’t cheap, especially for those who only travel once or twice per year. But as a digital nomad , I was interested in optimizing Inspirato Pass by jumping from luxury property to luxury property while not being tied to home or rent payments. I was also interested in renting large houses for group trips, splitting the effective cost to make it more manageable on my finances.

Unfortunately, Inspirato Pass is very difficult to use in this way.

Built-in limitations .

Search and availability .

The properties .

The bottom line .

Built-in limitations

Inspirato is a company trying to make money, so it's not going to let someone bleed it dry by booking back-to-back reservations at five-star hotels. The company deals with this by limiting how and when you can book travel with a Pass membership.

At the time I tested the program, Inspirato Pass only allowed me to book one trip at a time, and it didn’t let me book my next trip until my current one was completed. It also didn’t offer any bookings that were less than a week out. For example, if my first trip was from Sep. 1 through Sep. 5, then I wouldn’t be able to book a new trip until Sept. 5, and the earliest booking options at that point would be Sept. 12 (a week later).

It takes a while to wrap your head around these rules, but the upshot is that you’re only going to be able to make a few reservations per month, at the absolute maximum, with long spaces of a week or more between reservations. When I spoke to the sales rep at Inspirato, he was very up front about this limitation.

Yet for someone like me — with unlimited flexibility — the program could still be very valuable (in theory).

Note: Inspirato Pass has slightly changed its rules and now technically allows more than one reservation at a time; however, the same logic still applies for those trying to maximize reservation value.

Search and availability

Before signing up for Inspirato Pass, I spent several weeks browsing the program’s public search tool to check availability. I wanted to understand whether I could maximize the service by booking as many trips as possible within as short a time period as possible.

luxury travel pass

On its surface, Inspirato’s search tool is one of its best features. It offers powerful filters, intuitive date selection and quick load times. Want to get a ski chalet with three rooms in March? You can narrow the available trips down within seconds.

Without applying any filters and sorting by “best value,” you can see some top properties in the portfolio with the longest periods of availability. These are pretty enticing, since booking one of these luxury homes for even a week would cost much more than $2,500 through a normal vacation rental service.

However, this is where I encountered some of the hidden limitations of Inspirato Pass. When I filtered for availability within the same month, the options thinned dramatically.

luxury travel pass

Almost all the houses fell off the calendar for short-term bookings, leaving only hotels. And, importantly, many of these trips were only two or three days long, and often only available mid-week. This meant that I could end up spending $2,500 to book a hotel room for a few days — hardly a great deal.

But I did notice diamonds in the rough. Some large houses were available within two months or so, and some very high-end (as in penthouse) hotel rooms would pop up from time to time. Because of the flexible cancellation policy, I figured I could book longer-term trips and then nab these gems when they appeared on the search tool. As a veteran travel rewards maximizer, I was used to booking premium cabin award flights in the same way.

Yet I found that, unlike airline award search tools that show real-time availability for flights that can be booked immediately, Inspirato Pass’s search tool was not displaying actual inventory.

Missing inventory

When you sign up for Inspirato Pass, you'll be assigned a dedicated customer service team that you can contact directly at any time. To book a trip, you can either click “book” through the search tool or email your customer service team directly.

luxury travel pass

But here’s the thing: Clicking “book” doesn’t actually book the room. It basically sends an email to your customer service team, requesting that they book it. Why does this matter? Because often the search tool shows availability that doesn’t actually exist.

I learned this the hard way shortly after my subscription started, when I tried to book a three-night stay at one of my favorite hotels in the world: The Andaz Maui. This booking was a good example of a “diamond in the rough,” since rooms at the Andaz can easily cost more than $1,000 per night the winter I was traveling.

However, I received an email back from my care team, apologizing that the Andaz room was no longer available, and offering alternatives at the much less appealing Hyatt Regency Maui. This was annoying, given that I was looking forward to the Andaz, but I chalked it up to a system glitch. Yet, one month later, I encountered exactly the same issue when I tried to book the Penthouse Suite at the Andaz Los Angeles, which was available in the search tool at the time.

Here’s what my rep said via email:

“I’m so sorry but the hotel has sold out of that room type. The Pass list does not always show availability in real-time, so the Penthouse Suite should not appear as available on the website.”

So basically, my strategy of grabbing last-minute, high-value bookings wasn’t going to work because these bookings weren’t actually available. This same issue occurred repeatedly throughout my seven months with Inspirato Pass, to the point where I wondered whether the search tool was actually representative of anything real on the backend and not just a marketing tool to lure potential subscribers.

To its credit, Inspirato representatives repeatedly apologized for the problems. I spoke to a manager about my issues; the manager issued me a refund for one month of my subscription, which was somewhat of a balm. But I canceled my subscription after seven months because the service was proving to be far more of a hassle than it was worth.

The properties

All of these serious technical and logistical problems aside, when I was actually able to book an Inspirato property, I had a blast. My friends and I booked several long stays at villas at the Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes, California, which offered a level of luxury and service well beyond our usual price range.

luxury travel pass

I stayed at the exquisite Chileno Bay Resort in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, booked a luxurious hotel room in London for a week (no mean feat under my usual travel budget), and generally lived like a part-time king for those seven months. What’s fun about Inspirato Pass is that it incentivizes you to seek out the most absurdly expensive options. This does away with the usual trade-off between comfort and cost when booking accommodation.

By far the best value comes from the houses rather than the hotel rooms, though these were rarely available less than two months out. Eating through two months of Pass availability was the equivalent of $5,000, so I was generally reluctant to go this route. That said, if I had it to do over again I would have targeted long stays at houses with friends and family rather than shorter and more frequent stays at hotels and resorts. If nothing else, I could split the cost with friends.

The bottom line

In this review, I focused on the mechanisms of Inspirato Pass and its drawbacks, rather than the properties and experiences themselves, because this was the weak link that broke the chain for me. I signed up for the service because of the availability displayed on the search tool, and when that availability was not, well, available, Inspirato Pass was rendered far less valuable.

If you’re someone with an annual travel budget north of $30,000 ($2,500 x 12) and only take a few trips every year, then Inspirato Pass might be worth it. The best thing it offers is simplicity: You don’t have to worry about how much a particular booking costs, or whether taxes and fees are included. You just pay a flat monthly fee and get to book world-class travel (when it’s available).

But if you’re a travel-maximizing cheapskate like me, or someone looking to book trips with friends and split the cost, you should probably pass on Inspirato Pass. The properties are great, as advertised, but the hassle of booking stays, coupled with the misleading faux-availability shown on the search tool, totally cripples its value.

Do I regret my seven months with Inspirato Pass? Not at all. I got a free month at sign-up and a free month for my repeated reservation problems, so the cost proved manageable. But would I recommend it to a friend who wasn’t a bajillionaire? Not a chance.

Inspirato Review (2024): The Pros & Cons of Inspirato Pass

A detailed look at my experience as an Inspirato Pass Member

Inspirato Pass Review: What is Inspirato?

Inspirato homes and residences, villa eos at long bay beach club: inspirato turks & caicos review, inspirato kiawah island, sc residence: terrapin home review, the boathouses at canoe place: inspirato hamptons review, inspirato hotels & resorts, inspirato property search tool, 1. inspirato club membership, 2. inspirato pass membership, 3. inspirato select, how much does inspirato cost, inspirato bonus trips, experiences, tickets to events, beyond travel, other benefits of inspirato pass membership, customer service, planning & concierge team, the pros & cons of inspirato pass, conclusion: is inspirato pass worth it, inspirato club vs. pass: key differences you need to know, inspirato pet policy: can you bring pets to inspirato homes, the inspirato cancellation policy – what you need to know.

I joined Inspirato as a “Pass Member” in January 2022 and have been very happy with the decision. So much so that I renewed for another 12 months in January 2023 and plan to renew again in 2024.

I get a lot of questions from friends and family about why we joined and if we like the program, so I thought I would write up an “Inspirato Pass Review” article to help answer that question.

This article will provide an in-depth review of the Inspirato Pass program and focus on my experience as a Pass member. I’ll cover the most important topics like the cost of the program, the types of properties, the availability of the properties, and how the subscription model works.

I’ll also address some of the less-known aspects of Pass including bonus trips, events, and experiences.

If you make it all the way through this article, you’ll have a solid understanding of how Inspirato Pass works and if you think it would be a good program for you. Enjoy!

Let’s start with a basic understanding of what Inspirato is. Inspirato LLC (NASDAQ: ISPO) is a luxury vacation company that provides access to a portfolio of five-star vacation properties (homes, condos, and hotels) and experiences, delivered through a monthly subscription model.

The Inspirato portfolio of properties includes luxury vacation homes, accommodations at five-star hotels and resorts, and custom travel experiences.

In addition to providing access to these properties, Inspirato’s subscription model includes five-star personalized service, including pre-trip planning, onsite concierge, and daily housekeeping with every trip. All of these are included in the cost of your monthly subscription with no hidden fees !

Inspirato Destinations & Real Estate

The Inspirato portfolio consists of over 500+ residences in 95+ destinations which are then classified into “beach”, “mountain”, “lifestyle” or “metropolitan” locations.

The properties include luxury vacation homes that are maintained and managed by the Inspirato team as well as hotel rooms, suites, and resort residences contracted with their five-star luxury hotel partners.

The largest portion of the portfolio is in North America, Central America, and the Caribbean with a growing presence in Europe.

Options are currently very limited in Asia, Australia, and Africa, so if your goal is to travel extensively in those locations, Inspirato might not be the best option for you.

The vast majority of the properties available via Inspirato are luxury single family homes and resort residences. These include expansive estates in aspirational destinations as well as 2-4 bedroom villas and residences situated within luxury resorts.

Here are some reviews of the luxury homes I have stayed in as an Inspirato Pass Member:

  • Turks and Caicos – Villa Eos
  • Kiawah Island – Terrapin
  • The Hamptons – Boathouses at Canoe Place

Inspirato Turks and Caicos Review: Villa Eos 1

Each of these homes exceeded my expectations in terms of both quality and design. I would not hesitate to stay at each of them again.

In addition to luxury homes, Inspirato offers access to a large list of exclusive 5-star hotels and resorts. These hotels can be booked via your Inspirato Pass membership or through a paid Virtuoso booking.

Inspirato Collection Hotels & Resorts

You will be able to book a hotel stay with your Pass membership if a hotel is part of Inspirato’s Hotel Collection. This is a group of well over 200 luxury hotels that Inspirato has partnered with, giving you access to some of the most exclusive hotels and destinations in the world.

Inspirato hotel partners

Properties in the “Inspirato Collection Hotels” include amazing properties with five-star brands such as Rosewood, One & Only, Park Hyatt , Ritz Carlton, Montage , Como , and St. Regis, as well as a collection of independent and boutique hotels.

The hotels offer both traditional hotel rooms and 2-4 bedroom residences. I have stayed at both with my Pass membership. Here are some reviews of the resort properties I have stayed at with my Pass members:

  • Montage Palmetto Bluff: 2 bedroom Guest House
  • Conrad Fort Lauderdale: 2 bedroom Condo
  • Faena Miami Beach: Traditional Hotel Room (Partial Ocean View)
  • Aqualina Resort & Residences: Ocean Front Hotel Room
  • The Boca Raton: 2 Bedroom Bungalow

Hotels Outside of the Inspirato Collection

If you’re looking for a luxury hotel that has not partnered with Inspirato, you can book it through Inspirato’s partnership with Virtuoso .

In this situation, Inspirato is essentially your travel agent, helping you book a room that includes bonuses like a room upgrade (if available), breakfast for two, early check-in / late check-out, and possibly some resort and dining credits.

You can use your “Pass Subscription” to book trips at properties in the Inspirato Collection Hotels. If a luxury property is not part of the collection, your Inspirato care team can help you book through Virtuoso, which will be a paid booking, outside of the membership.

Another great feature of the Inspirato program is the search tool and the fact that you don’t need to be a member to access the tool and see what type of properties are available to you.

When using the search tool, just enter your desired geography and dates. The tool will then deliver a list of locations available at that time. You can then use the filter to refine location types such as beach, mountain, or metropolitan locations.

Inspirato Pass Search tool

You can also add another filter if you only want to spend a certain number of Pass Days on a given trip or want a home with a minimum number of rooms.

If you want to get the best value for your Pass days, be flexible with your search. The more open you are to different locations and dates, the more value you will get from your Pass.

Inspirato Membership Options

Here’s a summary of the three membership options available through Inspirato:

The Club membership is Inspirato’s base membership.

Inspirato Club members enjoy access to the full Inspirato Collection of exclusive homes, hotels, resorts, and experiences by paying nightly rates when they travel. They also receive first-class, personalized service from a team of hospitality experts – from pre-trip planning to an on-site concierge.

This membership essentially gives you access to the portfolio of properties, as well as the Care Team and Destination Planners. It’s generally used by people that want to “test drive” the program.

To learn more about the Club program read our Inspirato Club vs. Pass article.

In 2019, Inspirato introduced Inspirato Pass and promoted it as the world’s first luxury travel subscription. As an Inspirato Pass member, you pay a monthly subscription that gives you access to their complete portfolio of properties for $2,550 per month, including nightly rates, taxes, fees, and housekeeping.

The $2,550 monthly price for Inspirato Pass consists of $2,200 for the Pass portion and preferred pricing of $350 (versus list pricing of $650/month) for all the benefits of an Inspirato Club subscription.

The benefits include flexibility to book outside the Pass Trip List, dedicated service on every trip, member events, Bespoke travel, and more.

Inspirato Pass Days

Every time you book a trip as a Pass Member, you consume a number of “Pass Days”, which will vary by property, season, duration of stay, etc. Pass Days are the currency you have as a member to book an Inspirato property.

A subscription to Pass is $2,550 per month. So, the value of a Pass Day is the monthly cost divided by 30, making one Pass Day equal to approximately $85.

Inspirato Select is the newest evolution of the Inspirato membership offering (introduced in June 2022). Select is a new subscription offering designed for both personal and business use that can be shared with others.

One of the most valuable features of Inspirato Select is that Inspirato Select Trips are 100% transferable and may be shared with others at no additional cost.

This gives subscribers the flexibility to use their subscription in a wide variety of ways: You can use Select Trips for yourself or gift them to family, friends, or even business colleagues. You can either purchase Select as a stand-alone membership or add it to an existing club or pass membership.

The three membership options are priced as follows:

  • Inspirato Pass Membership: $2,550 enrollment fee + $2,550 monthly subscription payment
  • Inspirato Club Membership: $650 enrollment fee + $650 monthly subscription payment
  • Inspirato Select Membership: $2,000 enrollment fee + $24,000 annual fee

The prices for Pass and Club are for month-to-month plans. If you’re interested in prepaying for 6 or 12 months, Inspirato typically will offer additional incentives including waived enrollment fees and other perks.

Memberships can be canceled at any time with 30 days’ written notice (the enrollment fees are non-refundable).

Inspirato Referral Offer

If you're interested in joining Inspirato, use my referral link to learn more about Inspirato membership packages & make sure you are getting the latest (and best) promotion.

As an active Pass subscriber, you have the ability to purchase a Pass Bonus Trip at any time. Here is how Bonus Trips work:

  • Any trip that is available on the Pass Trip List for check-in within the next 30 days may be booked as a Pass Bonus Trip for $3,000. Any trip that is available for check-in within the next 31 – 60 days may be booked as a Pass Bonus Trip for $6,000.
  • Cancellations within three business days of booking are 100% refundable. Cancellations  more  than 14 days prior to check-in are 50% refundable in travel credits. Cancellations 0 to 14 days prior to check-in are non-refundable.

These work well if your Pass is in use and you would like to take a vacation over the next 30 days. Depending on what is available, you might be able to get great value out of these!

Cruises, Experiences & Sporting Events

In addition to booking homes and hotels, you can also use your pass days for Cruises, Experiences, Events, and Shopping. However, these will not give you the best value for your Pass days.

Other uses for Inspirato Pass

Experiences are primarily Tours booked with luxury tour companies like Classic Journeys , andBeyond (Safaris & Luxury Tours in Asia, Africa & South America), and Duvine (Bike Tours). You can also book unique trips like Alaska Fishing tours and Dude Ranch Vacations.

All of these tour groups and adventures look amazing and very well done, I am just not sure that this would be the best use of your Pass Days and membership, as you can book these on your own with the travel companies.

Inspirato has three partners for Ocean and River Cruises. Silversea and Seabourn are the main Ocean cruise partners and Amadeus and Uniworld are the river cruise partners.

The cruise partners are not unique to Inspirato. You could book the same trip direct with them if you would like.

Inspirato offers access to a huge variety of sporting events and concerts across the country. Unlike the Cruises and Experiences, these are events that you may not otherwise have access to, so while these tickets might not be a great “value” they might get you into an event you may not otherwise be able to get into.

They also may come with perks you might have had if you just bought a ticket on the open market, such as access to a suite with complimentary food and beverage.

Here are some things to know:

  • If you’re paying with Days of Pass: Your Pass will be in use as you earn your ticket purchase. You are able to cancel these tickets at any time while you’re earning your tickets. Once earned, these tickets are non-refundable.
  • If you’re paying with a credit card: Please let us know within 24 hours if you decline these tickets. Tickets will be charged within 24 hours, distributed four days before the event, and are non-refundable once charged.
  • View FAQs for the new Inspirato Tickets program.

The “ Beyond Travel ” items are typically the worst value for your Pass Days. It’s like using Amex Membership Rewards points to buy something on Amazon or Chase Ultimate Rewards points to buy an Apple laptop.

While you “can” use Pass days for these items, I would highly recommend not doing so. Why would you join a luxury travel subscription to buy a coffee maker or cookware? It just doesn’t make sense.

Beyond Travel items

Jaunt and Jaunt 52

Through the Inspirato Club program, you’ll have access to two programs called Jaunt 52 and Jaunt Now. Jaunt trips are significantly discounted trips that are released to members every Wednesday morning via email.

Jaunt Now offers member-only trips to the portfolio that are available in the next 60 days.

You can’t use your Pass days for Jaunt trips. They are discounted rates to be paid for in cash or credit, available to Inspirato Club members.

Jaunt 52 search example

Jaunt 52 offers discounts on more than 100 pre-selected trips available each week from the Inspirato Collection. They are member-only vacations that book on a first-come, first-served basis and are scheduled up to one year out.

My experience with the customer service teams at Inspirato has been great. This includes everyone from the initial salesperson I bought my subscription through to the Midwest Care team I’m assigned to and work with on a regular basis.

I’m based in Michigan, so I have been assigned to the “Pass Great Lakes Team”. My understanding is that the teams are divided up by region and further segmented by “Pass Members” and “Club Members”.

Each member has a dedicated support team, with their own direct phone line, email address, and after-hours line. The booking tool Inspirato offers is very intuitive, so you can often book trips without contacting your team, but if for some reason you do need them, they are easy to get in touch with for help.

In addition to your dedicated Inspirato Care Team, they also have Destination Planners that help you craft each trip itinerary. These planners are local to the destination and know all the insider tips and top recommendations.

Your Destination Planner will send you a list of recommendations for activities and dining 1-2 months in advance of your trip. Once you decide what you want to do, they’ll make your dinner reservations, arrange your excursions, provide transportation, buy groceries, and more.

Here is my view on the pros and cons of the Inspirato Pass program:

  • Access to amazing five-star homes and resorts (with homes that are only available to members)
  • Great service and pre-trip planning assistance via the Inspirato Care Team and local Destination Planners
  • Housekeeping is included in the monthly subscription fee, at no additional charge
  • Opportunity for significant outsized value if you manage the subscription properly
  • The monthly subscription model allows you to spread your costs out evenly over the year
  • Great value can be found with luxury home rentals (this includes resort residences)
  • With homes, you can bring along friends and family members at no additional charge
  • Pass membership can be canceled at any time, with 30 days’ notice
  • Cancellation policy (with individual stays not with the membership itself)
  • Short-term booking can be challenging
  • Designed for those with flexible travel schedules that are open to a variety of destinations. If you cannot be flexible, this is not a great option for you
  • You can’t book another trip while your pass days are in use (unless you book a paid club/jaunt trip or buy a bonus trip or second pass)
  • Luxury hotels and experiences do not offer great value for your Pass days
  • Pets are not allowed at Inspirato homes.
  • The majority of the homes are in the United States, Mexico, and the Caribbean. There are not many options if you want to travel outside this area. Europe is growing but is still fairly limited. There are no homes in South America, Africa, Asia, or Australia.

You could argue that Inspirato is good for anyone who wants to luxury travel experience bundled into a monthly subscription, and that is absolutely true. But I look at it a little differently.

I would rather know what type of traveler can get the most value from an Inspirato subscription. When you look at it this way, it primarily appeals to the traveler that wants 5-star luxury vacations but also has the ability to be very flexible .

The way to get the most value out of your Inspirato subscription is to have flexibility regarding where you go and when you go.

For example, if you are the type of traveler that wants to go to a warm/beach location in the winter, with flexibility on the dates, and are open to any island in the Caribbean as well as Latin American locations (Mexico, Costa Rica, etc.), then this could be an amazing program for you. My Care team refers to this as “casting a wide net” to get the most options and value from your subscription.

However, a traveler that is tied to their children’s school vacation schedules and only has a couple of specific destinations in mind, will not be able to get “outsized value” from an Inspirato membership, although they will still be able to have access to amazing properties at a good value.

In the fall, my kids will both be in college, I work remotely most of the time, and have the freedom to go just about anywhere. I can even go somewhere without taking a vacation and just work remotely in a sunny warm location to get out of the dreary Michigan winters.

Consequently, I have the potential to be the Inspirato “poster child” member. Time will tell if my wife and I are actually able to pull this off and really maximize our membership, but I am optimistic it will work out and very excited to continue to take advantage of all Inspirato has to offer!

This Monthly Travel Subscription Gives You Unlimited Access To Luxury Rentals Across the Globe

Just pay your monthly fee and everything else is covered!

manarola, italy

If you're like me, you may become a little indecisive when booking a vacation. Maybe you really like the amenities offered at one rental, but the location of a similar rental allows easier access to activities. It sure can be a gamble especially when money is being put on the line. But what if you could stay at both rentals? In fact, what if you could take numerous getaways around the world for just one flat monthly fee.

Now, thanks to the company’s new Inspirato Pass , guests can hop from one luxury getaway to the next without paying any nightly rates, taxes, or fees. All these charges are covered under the Inspirato Pass’s $2,500 monthly rate.

"The structure is very straightforward," Inspirato founder and CEO Brent Handler told Insider . "If you're familiar with how Rent the Runway works, or the original Netflix subscription, it's the same," he says. This means that guests can book a relaxing Palm Springs getaway, check out, then jet off to Puerto Rico for an island retreat.

Furthermore, what makes Inspirato standout from other platforms is it has its own staff that works to cater to members' every need as well as keep the rental up to the highest standard. Typically, rental platforms hand these responsibilities off to the host, who may or may not have experience in the hospitality industry. Inspirato employees; however, are trained to make sure guests receive five-star quality treatment.

Prior to launching the Inspirato Pass, the company offered (and still offers) a $600 monthly travel subscription which grants members access to travel advisors, a portfolio of private villas and hotels, as well as experiences like custom cruises or seats at in-demand sporting events. However, guests would have to pay separately for each of these events and or/stays, as their subscription only gave them access. The Inspirato Pass covers all fees. Members pay a flat rate of $2500 and can take choose from an assortment of dream vacations. The only thing that will cost guests is transportation.

Those with the Inspirato Pass can cancel anytime. However, there is a $2,500 initiation fee to sign up for the program, therefore, the first month will cost new users $5,000. Other than that, the rules seem very simple: you can't book multiple trips at the same time and if you're considering cancelling a trip, make sure you do it at least 72 hours in advance to avoid penalty. Like most memberships, it’s all about how much you use it.

"The simplicity of just being able to pick something, book it, not think about it, check-in, have a five-star experience, and, the day you check out, book your next trip has really taken off," Handler tells Insider .

For $2,500 a month travelers get unlimited luxury hotel stays with new service

VIDEO: News headlines today: July 1, 2019

Think of it as Rent the Runway, but for luxury hotel stays.

Inspirato has just launched what's being billed as the world's first luxury travel subscription service. For $2,500 per month, members of Inspirato Pass get access to more than 60,000 worldwide luxury vacation homes, hotels, resorts and experiences including cruises, safaris and sporting events, with no nightly rates, taxes, or fees.

To book, passholders visit the Inspirato Pass website and browse available trips in more than 150 locations throughout the U.S., Mexico , Central and South America, Europe and Asia. Reserve any available trip and book the next reservation upon check out. The list of available trips refreshes daily, with a continual supply of new choices, the company said.

A check by "Good Morning America" showed 72,000 trips available with no filters applied to destination or check-in date. We checked a peak travel week -- Christmas 2019 week -- and found more than 1,400 trips, some in popular destinations like New York City and Paris as well as warm-weather destinations like Miami and Mexico. With peak travel dates commanding the highest prices of the year, the subscription service could potentially benefit a traveler even if they don't use the pass each month.

(More: Step up your summer staycation with these 5 apps and sites)

The properties offered are true four-and-five star hotels. Even with the peak travel dates set as filters, there were plenty of options ranging from two to seven nights over the holiday week. But the service is brand new, and it's unclear how many people will be allowed to join. If it takes off, it's possible it will be harder to secure accommodations in the most desirable destinations over popular travel times.

Like a Rent the Runway subscription, it's best not to go in with a particular dress -- or in this case, hotel -- in mind, but rather shop by style. On Inspirato, there are four "styles" to choose from: Beach, Mountain, Lifestyle, Metropolitan.

Only one person in the traveling party needs to be a pass holder and can have as many people the property indicates it can accommodate.

Pass holders need to check out of one property before reserving another and for that reason, it would be difficult to plan back-to-back trips. Even if a traveler planned to stay in the same destination, there's no guarantee a property nearby would be available. If airfare is required to get to the next destination, some degree of a planning period, a presumably downtime, would be required.

The Best Luxury Travel Credit Cards—With Perks That Are Worth the Cost

Matt Ortile

Matt Ortile

Going has partnered with CardRatings for our coverage of credit card products. Going and CardRatings may receive a commission from card issuers. Opinions, reviews, analyses, and recommendations are the author's alone, and have not been reviewed, endorsed, or approved by any of these entities. Terms and limitations may apply to offers and benefits mentioned on this page. ‍

There are certain travel rewards credit cards that grant the whole points and miles world a particular kind of halo effect. You know the kind of card I’m talking about—those sleek squares of metal that come with a bevy of benefits that make traveling more seamless or stylish or comfortable; the cards that your fanciest traveler friend will include in an Instagram post of their business class ticket, their passport, and a glass of Champagne. (Maybe that’s just me.)

But the truth is, you don’t have to be an insufferably bougie globetrotter to take advantage of those high-end travel credit cards. Yes, the annual fees are a lot higher than those of entry-level or mid-range travel cards , but the cards often come jam-packed with benefits that mitigate the costs. And if you feel like your current credit cards aren’t meeting your needs—if you want to earn points faster, for example, or if you need lounge access at the airport —then it may be time for you to upgrade what’s in your wallet.

I’ll run through some of the hallmarks of a “luxury” credit card, and the role one can play in your points and miles strategy even if you don’t consider yourself a “luxury” kind of traveler. I’ll also recommend two approachable high-end cards that can easily work for most travelers, whether they’re casual vacationers or constant road warriors.

Three best luxury travel credit cards

I’m suggesting these three credit cards below because they offer increased points-earning rates, regular credits that offset their large annual fees, and some kind of airport lounge access. Moreover, I think these are the best premium credit cards currently available because of their ease of use. Other top-of-the-line cards can come with a lot of caveats, but these two cards are convenient and accessible, on top of being packed with benefits.

1. Chase Sapphire Reserve®

  • Current welcome offer: bonus_miles_full
  • Annual fee: annual_fees
  • Key annual credits: Get up to $300 in statement credit reimbursements each anniversary year for spending on travel; two complimentary years of Lyft Pink All Access (enrollment required)—a value of $199 per year; a complimentary year of DashPass, a membership for both DoorDash and Caviar (enrollment required)—a value of $120; a monthly $5 DoorDash credit through December 2024—a value of up to $60; a complimentary year of Instacart+ (enrollment required)—a value of $99 per year; a monthly $15 Instacart+ credit through July 2024—a value of up to $180 for the year. Altogether, that’s up to $958 in credits, which more than pays off your first annual fee.
  • Rewards structure: Earn 10 points per dollar spent on hotels and car rentals purchased through the Chase Ultimate Rewards® travel portal; earn 5 points per dollar spent on flights purchased through the Chase Ultimate Rewards® travel portal; earn 3 points per dollar spent on all other eligible travel purchases and on dining at restaurants (including eligible delivery services, takeout, and dining out); earn 1 point per dollar spent on all other eligible purchases.
  • Airline transfer partners: Aer Lingus, Air Canada, Air France-KLM, British Airways, Emirates, Iberia, JetBlue, Singapore Airlines, Southwest Airlines, United, Virgin Atlantic
  • Lounge access: The card comes with a Priority Pass™ Select membership (enrollment required), a value of $469 per year, which grants access to over 1,300 lounges across the world.
  • Global Entry and/or TSA PreCheck® credit? Yes, this card offers one statement credit of up to $100 every four years as reimbursement for the application fee charged to the card.

The Chase Sapphire Reserve® is a good option for folks who want to get a feel for using a luxury travel rewards card. The credits easily “negate” the annual fee for the first year of card membership.  And in subsequent years, without all the limited-time credits, the easy-to-use annual $300 travel credit and Global Entry and/or TSA PreCheck® application credit bring down the annual fee a lot. And if you use airport lounges at all, the value of the Priority Pass™ Select membership covers almost the entirety of the sticker price.

All that said, here’s something to consider: The Reserve out-earns its more “junior” counterpart, the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card , in only one spending category: travel purchases. With the Reserve, you get 10x on hotels and rental cars, and 5x on flights, when purchasing through the Chase Travel portal; non-portal travel spending nets you 3x. On the other hand, the Preferred earns 5x on all travel spending through the Chase portal, and only 2x on non-portal travel purchases.

To its credit, the Preferred has a wider variety of bonused spending categories. On top of the travel categories, the Preferred earns 3 points per dollar spent on online grocery purchases (excluding Walmart, Target, and wholesale clubs) and on select streaming services. For dining at restaurants (including eligible delivery services, takeout, and dining out), the Preferred’s earning rate is the same as the Reserve’s, 3x. All this to say, depending on your needs and spending habits, you may actually get more points-earning value out of the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card .

(That said, the Chase Sapphire Reserve® comes with an extra feature that outranks its Preferred sibling. When you hold the Chase Sapphire Reserve®, each of your Chase points are worth 1.5¢ in the Chase Travel portal. More info on that in our in-depth review of this card .)

Read our Chase Sapphire Reserve® review .

2. Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card

  • Key annual credits: Get up to $300 back as statement credits annually for bookings through Capital One Travel; receive 10,000 bonus anniversary points every year, starting on your first cardholder anniversary.
  • Rewards structure: Earn 10 points per dollar spent on hotels and car rentals purchased through the Capital One Travel portal; earn 5 points per dollar spent on flights purchased through the Capital One Travel portal; earn 2 points per dollar spent on all other eligible purchases.
  • Airline transfer partners: Aeromexico, Air Canada, Air France-KLM, Avianca, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Emirates, Etihad, EVA, Finnair, Qantas, Singapore Airlines, TAP Air Portugal, Turkish Airlines, Virgin Red
  • Lounge access: Unlimited complimentary access to Capital One Lounges for the cardholder and two guests per visit; at the time of writing, the only Capital One Lounge currently open is the location at Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW). Additionally, you get access to over 1,300 airport lounges in Capital One’s Partner Lounge Network, which includes lounges within Priority Pass™ and the Plaza Premium Group.

Compare the Chase Sapphire Reserve® above and the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card here, and notice how much more streamlined the Venture X is as a premium travel rewards card, as well as the ease with which you earn back the annual fee with its yearly credits.

The $300 annual credit is comparable to the Reserve’s; the only thing is that you have to make your purchases through the Capital One Travel portal, which is easy enough. (I just used my $300 credit on a hotel booking in Paris this September; it was an easy process and the prices were equivalent to what was advertised directly on the hotel’s site.) On top of that, you get 10,000 Capital One points every year, after your first year of card membership; that’s worth $100 if you redeem through the Capital One Travel portal—and even more if you transfer them directly to an airline partner to make an award booking. Between those two credits, that’s at least $400 of value, negating the annual fee.

As for the rewards structure, the Venture X has the same earning rates as the Reserve for purchases related to hotels and car rentals (10x), as well as flights (5x), made through their respective travel portals. Where they differ is on purchases for everything else. While the Reserve earns 3x or 1x on other non-portal categories, the Venture X keeps it simple by applying a flat 2x on all eligible purchases made out of the Capital One Travel portal. This may seem less exciting, but it’s perhaps just as powerful. The ability to earn two points per dollar on every purchase means you can use it for pretty much all your spending, and you’ll steadily earn points as you simply live your life without thinking too much about your points strategy.

It’s worth noting that the mid-range version of this card—simply called the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card —offers nearly the same reward structure: 2x on all purchases made outside the Capital One Travel portal; 5x on hotels and rental cars booked through the Capital One Travel portal, for a reduced annual fee of $95. It doesn’t have any easy-to-use credits, however, so the Venture X, in theory, costs less to carry than its “junior” sibling. Which one you choose may just come down to the question of if and how you’d use the credits that come with the Venture X, such as the Global Entry and/or TSA PreCheck® credit and the lounge access.

  • Airline transfer partners: Aer Lingus, Aeromexico, Air Canada, Air France-KLM Flying Blue, ANA, Avianca, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Delta Airlines, Emirates, Hawaiian Airlines, Iberia, JetBlue, Qantas, Singapore Airlines, Virgin Atlantic

What makes a “luxury” travel rewards credit card?

If you’re in the market for a luxury or a premium travel rewards credit card, you can expect a number of factors across the board, regardless of credit card issuer:

A high annual fee

There’s no way around it: A luxury credit card will cost you a luxury price upfront. Among the premium credit cards out there competing with each other for a spot in your wallet, annual fees start at around $395 and go all the way up to $695. So if you see a credit card with an annual fee within that range, you can also expect some or all of the following features below.

Yearly credits that offset that annual fee

The sticker shock when you see the annual fees for those fancy pieces of metal is totally warranted. That said, premium travel credit cards regularly come with annual credits that effectively reduce the cost to carry them. Some work as reimbursements on purchases made in specific categories (often travel purchases, of course); others offer memberships to services or amenities that you can use while traveling (and/or while at home); and one even gives you bonus credit card points every year when you pay the annual fee.

Increased points-earning rates

Traditionally, the top-of-the-line credit cards offer higher points-earning rates compared to their entry-level or mid-range counterparts. Some even offer ten points per dollar you spend on certain types of purchases. That said, the spending categories on a premium credit card should align with your own shopping habits and preferences; otherwise, you might be better served by a card with fewer fancy benefits and credits, but with categories that actually fit your lifestyle.

Complimentary lounge access

This is pretty straightforward: A premium credit card will come with some kind of complimentary access to airport lounges. Which lounges you can get into will depend on what kind of card you have. And bear in mind that not all airports will have lounges that you can access with your card—or have lounges at all. (Please do not cry “false advertising” because you were looking for an American Express Centurion Lounge at, I don’t know, Northwest Arkansas National Airport.)

A credit for Global Entry/TSA PreCheck®

And finally, a premium credit card will likely (and, in my opinion, should ) have a statement credit of up to $100 every four years as reimbursement for the Global Entry /TSA PreCheck® application fee charged to the card. Note that getting Global Entry also grants you TSA PreCheck® ; applying for TSA PreCheck® only gets you TSA PreCheck®.

Not sure what Global Entry and TSA PreCheck® are? Put simply, the former expedites the immigration process when you enter the United States from abroad; the latter grants access to an expedited security lane before departures—but not every airport or airline participates in TSA PreCheck®.

Is a luxury travel credit card worth it?

It can take a second to get the hang of traveling with a premium points-earning card, but the advantages can be extremely worthwhile—as long as its benefits actually meet your needs. When deciding what card (or cards) is right for you, always ask yourself: Is this a must-have card? Or is it just a nice-to-have card?

If you’re not able to take advantage of a benefit offered by a card, then that benefit is essentially useless, and should not be considered when deciding to pick up that card or not. For my part, I much prefer to do my grocery shopping in-person and at farmers markets, so the Instacart+ membership that the Chase Sapphire Reserve® is, to me, useless. If you drive your own car, then you might value that Lyft Pink All Access membership a whole lot less than someone without a car who is also a Lyft loyalist. But will the other benefits be worth that hefty annual fee? That’s up to you.

All that said, it could be worth it to take any of these three cards out for a spin. There’s no better way to learn how a car drives than to get behind the wheel. If it’s not a fit for you, you can always “downgrade” a card to its mid-range counterpart.

Luxury travel for less: Your guide to free airport lounge passes

O ne of the most stressful aspects of travel involves the airport experience. When you’re not being hassled at security checkpoints, you’re spending way too much time (and money) finding reasonably priced, healthy food options and a comfortable place to relax before a flight. Airport lounges can solve these options by providing a serene and comfortable oasis amidst the hustle and bustle of busy terminals.

These exclusive spaces can run the gamut from basic to ultra-luxurious, with some even providing complimentary spa services. There are many reasons travelers pay to access airport lounges, but with the right credit card or membership, you may be able to get airport lounge passes for a steep discount—or even free.

What is an airport lounge pass?

An airport lounge pass is a ticket or membership granting access to select airport lounges. These lounges give travelers a more comfortable environment to relax before a flight. They typically offer comfortable seating, complimentary food and drinks and high-speed Wi-Fi. The more premium lounges even offer a la carte dining options, shower suites, nap rooms, and spa services. The quality of a lounge typically corresponds to the airline it's operated by. Premium airlines like Singapore and Emirates typically offer superb lounges, especially abroad.

Meena Thiruvengadam, travel expert and founder of Travel With Meena, finds the most value in airport lounge access when traveling abroad. “Having a comfortable place to shower before a long flight, do my skincare routine or nap during a long layover makes travel feel less exhausting. And there’s nothing like getting where you’re going—or getting home—and not feeling completely wiped out.”

Can you get into an airport lounge for free?

Generally, accessing an airport lounge for free is only possible if you hold a premium class ticket or have a membership or credit card that grants you access. International business or first-class passengers often enjoy lounge access as part of their ticket benefits. Some lounges also extend complimentary access to military members in uniform. Additionally, those who have an active lounge membership can sometimes bring up to two guests without paying a fee.

Most other travelers can gain entry to airport lounges by purchasing a day pass. These typically cost between $25-60, depending on the lounge. Some lounges are so exclusive that you can’t even pay for access but need a specific membership or credit card. The American Express Centurion lounge is a prime example, restricting access to Amex Platinum and Centurion members only. Even guests have to pay a $30-$50 fee to accompany a qualifying cardmember into the lounge unless the cardmember reaches a spending threshold.

8 ways to get into an airport lounge

While spending $25-60 on a lounge pass may be worthwhile to some, attaining these luxurious spaces doesn’t have to cost a thing. Credit cards, particularly those with travel-centric perks, often grant lounge passes or memberships as part of their cardholder benefits. Additionally, standalone lounge memberships or programs like Priority Pass offer a wider range of lounges across different airlines. Savvy travelers can also secure free access through elite status within loyalty programs or by booking premium cabin seats using airline miles. Here are eight ways you can secure airport lounge passes for your next trip:

Airline rewards cards

Many airline credit cards grant cardholders access to their lounges. These cards typically carry high annual fees but include airline lounge membership, along with perks like free checked bags, priority boarding and annual credits towards airline elite status. Examples of airline cards that offer lounge access include the Citi® / AAdvantage® Executive World Elite Mastercard®, the United Club℠ Infinite Card and .

Travel rewards cards

Many premium travel rewards cards provide airport lounge access at thousands of lounges worldwide through networks like Priority Pass. Additionally, many of these cards offer annual travel credits that can be applied towards airport lounge visits, though each card is different. For example, The Platinum Card® from American Express offers $200 in annual airline fee credits, plus access to a vast lounge network that includes Amex Centurion, Escape, Lufthansa, Delta Sky Club, Plaza Premium and Priority Pass lounges.

Elena Nikolova, founder of Muslim Travel Girl , often travels solo or with her four-year-old daughter. She recently renewed her high-annual-fee Amex Platinum Card for the lounge benefit alone: “The ability to relax, eat, drink, freshen up and not chase a child over the terminal is what makes travel enjoyable. We can't always travel in business class (although I try my best) so having a card that gives you free access even in economy and independent of an airline is what makes it worth the high fee.” Nikolova estimates she’s saved $2,000 on lounge passes in the last year alone, all while flying budget airlines sound Europe.

Priority Pass

Priority Pass is a network of over 1,400 airport lounges worldwide, including airline lounges and select restaurants. Annual memberships range from $69 to $469, with higher tier memberships including unlimited lounge visits. Priority Pass can provide excellent value for frequent travelers, though guest access comes with a $35 per-visit fee. The great news is many premium travel cards offer complimentary Priority Pass Select membership, which includes guest access. Examples of these cards include the , and Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card.

For those who don’t have access through credit cards or memberships, many lounges offer day passes that can be purchased at the airport. These passes allow one-time access in exchange for a fee of $25-60, though the exact fee varies by lounge. Some credit cards even include annual day passes as a cardholder perk, like the United Explorer Card . Day passes are ideal for occasional travelers seeking a comfortable space during layovers or delays.

Guest access

Some lounge memberships allow cardholders to bring guests into the lounge, free of charge. Guest access policies can vary in terms of the number of guests allowed. For example, Priority Pass Select members can bring two guests with them free of charge. The same goes for Capital One Venture X and Capital One Venture X Business cardholders, who can bring up to two additional guests into Capital One lounges without charge.

Fly international business or first class

Passengers flying business or first class on international itineraries also get complimentary lounge access. If the airline doesn’t have its own lounge, qualifying passengers will typically be directed to a partner airline’s lounge. While this seems like a far-fetched idea, premium cabin travel is actually pretty attainable through airline miles and credit card points.

Airline elite status

Nearly every domestic frequent flyer program offers lounge access as a perk to members who achieve elite status. You don’t have to be a top-tier elite member either to take advantage of this benefit – it’s available for most mid-tier elite members on international flights:

  • Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan: Complimentary lounge access for MVP Gold, Gold 75K and Gold 100K members traveling on Oneworld airlines to destinations outside of the U.S., Canada or Mexico.
  • American Airlines AAdvantage: Complimentary lounge access for Platinum, Platinum Pro and Executive Platinum members traveling on international flights operated by American or partner airlines to select international destinations.
  • Delta Air Lines SkyMiles: Complimentary lounge access for Gold, Platinum and Diamond Medallion members traveling in Delta Premium Select cabins or Delta One.
  • United Airlines MileagePlus: Complimentary lounge access for  United Premier Gold, Platinum and 1K member traveling on an international Star Alliance flight.

Military members

Members of the U.S. military traveling in uniform and their families can access USO airport lounges free of charge. In addition, many domestic airlines offer complimentary lounge access to qualifying military personnel and their families. To gain access, most lounges require military members to be in uniform or present an I.D. with leave orders.

The takeaway

Whether you’re a frequent flyer or an occasional traveler, airport lounges can vastly improve your travel experience. Lounges can elevate any trip by providing a quiet place to unwind and load up on snacks and drinks without paying outrageous airport prices. By leveraging the right credit cards and taking advantage of membership-based benefits, you can enjoy free airport lounge passes without breaking the bank.

Where do I get on?

Please visit our Terminal page for further information

Can I change my travel plans?

There is no fee to modify a reservation but you may be subject to a fare difference if modified to a date less than seven days from your date of modification. Please note, trips modified inside 2 hours of a departure can only be modified once and are no longer eligible for future travel credits or modifications. You can login to your account at vonlane.com to modify trips departing greater than two hours in the future or call, chat online, or email your modification request to [email protected] . If you simply cancel your existing trip and purchase a new trip, your credit card will be charged for a second booking. Your cancellation will be governed by our normal cancellation policy which may result in a loss of fare or an issuance of Vonlane credit only.

Can I receive a refund?

Yes, all Vonlane tickets are fully refundable as long as you cancel 24 hours prior to the first leg of your trip. Tickets cancelled inside of 24 hours and prior to 2 hours before the departure time are re-usable for future travel at a value equal to the original fare paid. Vonlane credit for cancelled trips expires and is removed from a passenger's account six months after the cancellation date. There is no refundable or re-usable value for a "no show" ticket. Tickets cancelled less than 2 hours prior to the trip departure time are non-cancellable and nonrefundable. Trips booked within 24 hours of departure are not refundable to the purchaser's credit card.

Are there other fees?

When traveling with Vonlane, the only additional fee you may incur is if you choose to park your personal vehicle. Our terminal locations offer parking fees that are competitive with typical airport parking fees; therefore, you can still plan to pay less overall for your entire trip.

Are there baggage restrictions?

In order to ensure all passengers are accommodated, please limit your luggage to 2 bags of 50 pounds or less and 1 carry-on bag.

Is there a restroom?

Yes, every Vonlane Passenger First motor coach has a full restroom for your convenience. Unlike the airlines, you won't be sharing it with more than 100 people. Our coaches only hold 22 passengers.

Can pets travel?

Small dogs, weighing less than 10 pounds , in a carry-case that can fit by a passenger's legs, are allowed on a Vonlane coach. The carry-case must be fully enclosed and the dog fully secured in the case. The case is not permitted on any table, seat, or in the coach aisle. The case, with dog inside, must remain quietly on the floor by the passenger’s feet throughout the trip. The carry-case must not impede the personal space of any other passenger, their seat, or leg rest. Dogs that cannot remain quietly in the carry-case should not be brought aboard and passengers with loud animals may be asked to disembark the coach at a rest area. This is strictly enforced by our attendants. Cats and other animals are not allowed aboard the motor coaches.

Service animals that are "trained to take a specific action when needed to assist the person with a disability" are allowed aboard without being in an animal carrier. All service animals must be harnessed and controlled by the passenger at all times. Vonlane adheres to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The ADA does not cover emotional support dogs. Therefore, emotional support dogs that cannot adhere to the pet policy above cannot travel aboard Vonlane. All-inclusive and luxury don't have to be mutually exclusive, especially when booking a stay at one of these standout properties that have managed to combine the ease of an all-inclusive with the gold standard of a five-star seal of approval. From packages that include safaris through the African bush to overwater bungalows and resorts that feature tasting menus from award-winning chefs, these luxury all-inclusive resorts will surprise even the most seasoned of high-flying travelers.

Here, a look at 19 of the best all-inclusive resorts in the world that will allow you to indulge in style without worrying about the fine print.

Hurawalhi Island Resort, Maldives

When you imagine the Maldives, a beautiful bungalow oasis in the middle of the Indian Ocean is likely what filters through your mind. A 40-minute seaplane flight from Male Airport, guests at Hurawalhi Island Resort are tucked away from the rest of the world, surrounded by the kind of blue you can't create, even with an Instagram filter. Here, you can choose from ocean villas or beach villas, each of which include king-sized beds, private terraces, and for those over water, access to the waves. Meals and alcoholic beverages are included within the nightly rate, with the option to upgrade to more fine-dining options (like a visit to the Champagne Pavilion), if your getaway calls for a celebration. Each villa also has access to sunset dolphin cruises, kayaks, snorkeling equipment, yoga classes, and more.

andBeyond Sandibe Okavango Safari Lodge, Botswana

Isla Palenque, Boca Chica, Panama

If you're accustomed to luxury lodging, you've likely stayed at one of the Cayuga Collection's properties throughout Central America. One of their most beloved — and upscale — experiences is situated in Panama's Gulf of Chiriqui. Marrying the serenity of seven beaches along the Pacific Ocean with the intrigue of the surrounding jungle, this 400-acre private island offers unlimited access for taking in the scenery. In addition to all-inclusive meals and non-alcoholic beverages, travelers who stay at Isla Palenque can also book a wide selection of tours. Whether you venture out to witness native wildlife (including dolphins and whales), practice yoga every morning, or unwind on one of Isla Palenque's seven beaches, your all-inclusive vacation will surely keep your senses occupied.

The Singular Patagonia, Puerto Bories, Chile

After successfully completing any of the strenuous hikes of Patagonia, it's worth splurging on a luxury resort to recuperate. And if you'd like to go big, book a stay at The Singular Patagonia, which lies deep in southern Chile, overlooking the iconic Fjord of Last Hope. Set on 30 acres, the site was once the Bories cold storage plant in the early 1900s, serving as a focal point for the sheep farming industry. Today, though, it features 57 meticulously designed rooms that'll have you at ease from the moment you enter. The nightly "Complete Experience" rate includes all food and alcohol, as well as daily excursions such as horseback riding, kayaking, and more local activities. And if you need to soak away the soreness from travel and hiking, every guest has access to the spa facilities for the duration of their stay as well.

Tongabezi Lodge, Simonga, Zambia

The border between Zambia and Zimbabwe is home to the legendary Victoria Falls, which is twice as high as Niagara Falls and often considered among the most powerful — and jaw-dropping — natural wonders in the world. Though this beautiful work of Mother Nature is enough of an attraction for many travelers, when you stay at this five-star property in southern Africa, you have many other unique experiences to choose from, too. Think: an early morning game drive to see lions, hyenas, or elephants, a sunset cruise on the Zambezi River, or a guided tour of the falls — these are just a few of the experiences Tongabezi offers. No matter how you'd like to spend your African vacation, when you stay at this property, home to over-the-top houses and cottages, your private valet can arrange it all.

El Dorado Maroma, A Spa Resort by Karisma, Riviera Maya, Mexico

As overwater bungalows become more and more Instagram famous, oceanside resorts around the world are finding ways to recreate the virality generated in the Maldives. For a much shorter flight, but an equally luxe experience, El Dorado Maroma's Palafitos- Overwater Bungalows were the first oversea chalets on the Riviera Maya. Far from the party in Cancun, 30 modern and pristine suites are perched over the green waters of Maroma Beach, a private stretch of powder-white sand that's often considered a hidden gem of Mexico. Each of these suites include glass-bottom floors, outdoor showers, private infinity pools, indoor jacuzzis, and direct ladder access to the water. With the nightly rate, you'll also enjoy a gourmet dining experience.

Four Seasons Tented Camp Golden Triangle, Thailand

Where Laos, Myanmar, and Thailand meet, golden memories are made, allowing ambitious travelers to cross off three countries simultaneously. For those who want the star-studded experience on the Thailand corner of the triangle, a stay at this beloved Four Seasons property is a must. Depending on what you seek out of your vacation, there are various all-inclusive packages to choose from. Each inclusive option offers guests meals and alcohol, as well as one spa treatment per person, elephant encounters, and round-trip transfers to the nearby airport. Because of its proximity to other Southeast Asian countries, some excursions could include trips to Myanmar or Laos, giving you more time to immerse yourself in the local culture.

Lizard Island, Great Barrier Reef, Australia

For certified scuba divers or those who prioritize seclusion during vacation, why not stay away from the mainland on an island all to yourself? Actually, make that an all-inclusive resort on the storied Great Barrier Reef. With 24 beaches and 40 luxury suites, you can enjoy practically endless options for exploring some of the most stunning natural wonders on the planet. Seafood lovers, take note: Nearly all of your meals include creative culinary takes on the catch of the day. Many activities — from snorkeling to stand-up paddle boarding — offer a unique perspective of this tropical oasis, all for no additional fee.

Fairmont Mayakoba, Mexico

Though it's not an all-inclusive in the traditional sense, the Fairmont Mayakoba offers an all-inclusive package that gives you access to all of the restaurants and most alcoholic beverages at the resort. Unlike many more crowded parts of Mexico, Mayakoba provides a private and serene getaway in the Riviera Maya region. As the largest resort of this eco-luxury destination, Fairmont gives its guests the chance to not only explore the fine-dining options, but also an ecological immersion, too. When you're not pool-hopping or riding bikes through the winding paths of the property, you can take a boat tour to learn about the local wildlife and brush up on your botany knowledge.

Bluefields Bay Villas, Jamaica

Bluefields Bay Villas is home to a collection of six all-inclusive luxury villas with all the bells and whistles built in. On the southern coast of Jamaica, where the vibrant countryside meets the Caribbean Sea, you can choose from two- to six-bedroom homes, all featuring private pools, a butler, maid service, a chef, and access to the beach nearby. You can work with your personal chef to create delectable meals suited to your palette and preferences. Also included: paddle boarding, kayaking, snorkeling, tennis, hiking, and other activities. If you want to make your vacation even fancier, Bluefields Bay can arrange for luxurious add-ons like private helicopter transfers.

Twin Farms, Barnard, Vermont

A luxurious retreat nestled in the Vermont mountains, Twin Farms is an adults-only culinary destination. At Vermont's only five-star, all-inclusive Relais & Châteaux resort, guests enjoy meals by chefs who create innovative daily menus with the state's best produce — sourced from the property and top local and regional vendors. Make sure to pamper yourself during your stay, with a facial, massage, or seasonal treatment at The Bridge House Spa. And while you can't choose incorrectly when selecting your lodging at Twin Farms, we're partial to their 950-square-foot cottages, which come with a fireplace and stone hot tub.

Kokomo Private Island, Fiji

Fiji's most exclusive resort, Kokomo Private Island, is set on the otherworldly Great Astrolabe Reef. The five-star, 140-acre property is a haven for couples and families, and is a perfect spot for a multi-generational family retreat. Guests can sign on for shark diving, waterfall hikes, manta ray swims, and even coral reef restoration with Kokomo's on-site marine biologist.

Sensei Lanai, A Four Seasons Resort, Hawaii

Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts and well-being company Sensei recently partnered to develop Sensei Lanai, A Four Seasons Resort, which opened in November 2019. The 96-room, all-inclusive hotel focuses exclusively on wellness retreats. Pikaia Lodge, Galapagos Islands

Off the coast of Ecuador in the Galapagos Islands, travelers will find Pikaia Lodge , a luxury all-inclusive catering to active and adventurous types. Built entirely from recycled materials, the property is 100 percent carbon neutral and sits between two inactive volcano craters on Santa Cruz Island. It features 14 gorgeous suites set on a private giant tortoise reserve. Birkenhead House, Hermanus, South Africa

When you visit Birkenhead House , you're welcomed to the ultimate beach house, adjacent to the Cape Winelands region of South Africa. Guests can post up at the cliffside pool and watch surfers chase the waves and, even better, see southern right and humpback whales breaching. All meals and drinks are included here, and there are plenty of activities to choose from, like treatments at the Birkenhead House Spa, mussel picking with the hotel's chefs, and spotting the "Marine 5": whales, sharks, dolphins, seals, and penguins.

BodyHoliday, St. Lucia

On a secluded cove of St. Lucia, BodyHoliday is an all-inclusive well-being resort. Each full day on the property, guests can enjoy one 50-minute included spa treatment. The property is known for its Wellness Center, which features an Ayurvedic Temple and a thalassotherapy pool. Guests can also take part in many included activities, such as guided meditations and vinyasa yoga. Wellness is at the forefront of the dining options, and it even seeps into the sleep-optimized room design — whether you're staying in a luxury ocean-view room or an oceanfront suite, you'll choose your preferred pillow from the pillow menu for a better night's sleep.

Miraval Arizona, Tuscon, Arizona
