Megadeth, Lamb of God, Trivium + In Flames Announce 2022 Leg of ‘Metal Tour of the Year’

The "Metal Tour of the Year" is back for a second time with a U.S. leg booked for the spring with co-headliners Megadeth and Lamb of God alongside special guests Trivium and In Flames .

The inaugural leg was originally set for 2020, but the pandemic forced a postponement until 2021 and the run finally got underway last summer, although Hatebreed were tabbed as the opener after In Flames announced they would not be able to make it.

Now, the original "Metal Tour of the Year" lineup will band together for a 23-date jaunt that will begin on April 9 in Las Vegas and wrap up on May 15 in Allentown, Pennsylvania after criss-crossing the country.

Megadeth Launch 2022 Tour: Set List, Videos

Megadeth launched their 2022 tour with a performance April 9 at the Michelob Ultra Arena at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas.

The metal giants began their set with an emphatic rendition of “Hangar 18,” the classic track from their 1990 album Rust in Peace . From there, the group blazed through “Dread and the Fugitive Mind” and “Sweating Bullets.”

At this point, frontman Dave Mustaine addressed the crowd for the first time, thanking fans for coming out while also heaping praise on their tourmates Lamb of God , Trivium and In Flames . Mustaine then told the crowd how much he’s been “looking forward to getting back on tour and playing for you guys. I hope you’re as happy as I am right not, because I could fuckin’ play all night but they won’t let us.”

Further highlights included such metal classics as “Trust” and “Symphony of Destruction.” Full set list and videos from the performance can be found below.

This marked the first 2022 date of the Metal Tour of the Year, a trek Megadeth began last year with an initial trek that ran from August through the end of September. Those 2021 dates were the first Megadeth performed following the dismissal of bassist and co-founder, David Ellefson. James LoMenzo, who filled in for Ellefson on last year’s tour, is continuing with the band for their 2022 run.

The Metal Tour Of The Year was originally announced and planned for 2020 but was halted by the pandemic

Following the enormous success of their 2021 co-headline US tour, metal titans MEGADETH and LAMB OF GOD have today announced the second US run of their aptly named METAL TOUR OF THE YEAR . Joining them will be special guests TRIVIUM and IN FLAMES . Tickets for the second leg of THE METAL TOUR OF THE YEAR , produced by Live Nation, will go on general sale at 10am local time on Friday, January 14th from MetalTourOfTheYear.com .

THE METAL TOUR OF THE YEAR was originally announced and planned for 2020 but was halted by the pandemic. Fans waited patiently for touring to return and in the summer of 2021 were granted their wish. THE METAL TOUR OF THE YEAR was one of the first national amphitheater tours to hit the road in 2021 and saw co-headliners MEGADETH and LAMB OF GOD hit 29 cities across North America with special guests TRIVIUM and HATEBREED , who stepped in to replace IN FLAMES who couldn’t join the tour due to travel restrictions. The tour was met with enormous acclaim, truly living up to its name and playing to a whopping 172,000 metal fans in the process.

It was over 30 years ago that Dave Mustaine founded MEGADETH , in the process pioneering the sound that would become known the world over as thrash metal. LAMB OF GOD propelled heavy metal into the new millennium two decades ago with the prophetically titled New American Gospe l. They followed with 2003’s As the Palaces Burn , which made the Rolling Stone list of the Top 100 Greatest Metal Albums of All Time. Ashes of the Wake , released in 2004, was the first LAMB OF GOD album to be certified gold by the RIAA, as was 2006’s Sacrament , which also made a Top 10 Billboard 200 chart debut. In 2009, LAMB OF GOD released Wrath , their first with Josh Wilbur as producer, and earned the number one album spot on Billboard’s Hard Rock, Rock, and Tastemaker charts, with a number two position on the Billboard 200.

Those number one positions were repeated with 2012’s Resolution , which swung effortlessly between thrash, traditional metal, sludgy doom, with flashes of crust punk swagger and bravado. LAMB OF GOD ’s last album, VII: Sturm und Drang (2015) made its debut on the Billboard 200 at number three and finished number 2 in the world charts, reaching Top 5 in five countries and six additional Top 15 positions. The single “ 512 ” was nominated for a GRAMMY® Award for “Best Metal Performance”, the band’s fifth nomination.

In 2020 LAMB OF GOD released their critically acclaimed self-titled opus, the band’s best work to date, featuring new drummer Art Cruz, LAMB OF GOD is re-energized and unrelenting, ready to lay claim to the metal throne.

My son was so happy that I took him along too, he said it was the best experience ever and that he now understood what it was like to at 80’s metal music gig. We both can’t wait to see them again. This was the 3rd time seeing Megadeth, second time at the Revention Center. Awsome venue and just the right size. Thankful I was able to get to the front and your security was awesome. They bring you fresh water!

What can I say...I was at a sold out 1,600 person venue with Megadeth literally feet away from me. It was more than awesome. The guitar playing was amazing (from lead, rhythm and bass) and drummer did a solid job. Ellefson was really into it (considering he grew up near here) and Mustaine sounded great and seemed to enjoy it. Highly recommend for anyone with remote interest.

The second leg of the co-headlining "Metal Tour of the Year" boasts support from Trivium and In Flames

Megadeth and Lamb of God have announced a second leg of their co-headlining “Metal Tour of the Year,” adding Spring 2022 dates across the United States.

The new leg kicks off April 9th in Las Vegas, Nevada, and runs though a May 15th date in Allentown, Pennsylvania. Trivium will return as support, with In Flames making their debut on the tour package after being replaced by Hatebreed on the first leg due to COVID travel restrictions. Tickets go on sale Friday (January 14th) at 10 a.m. local time via Ticketmaster , with pre-sales beginning Wednesday (January 12th) for most dates (with the code LAMB22).

The announcement comes after Megadeth shared a song snippet from their upcoming album, The Sick, The Dead and the Dying , which is expected to drop sometime in the spring.

In the meantime, both Mustaine and Blythe have entered the world of cryptocurrency, with $MEGA Coin and Chakra Coin , respectively. The crypto doesn’t end there, though. As part of Live Nation’s tour production, fans will be able to obtain a NFT “LiveStub” of their specific ticket stub for the upcoming tour dates.

Having announced a show in Caesars Windsor in Ontario, Canada , earlier this week, Megadeth has now confirmed a string of new US tour dates leading up to their sets at the Aftershock and Louder Than Life festivals. They’ll be joined by the reunited classic lineup of Biohazard for the East Coast shows, which take place in September. You can check out the two bands’ itineraries below.

The shows include an Atlantic City, NJ date on September 17 at Hard Rock Live at Etess Arena. Tickets to that and all dates go on sale Friday, July 14 at 10 AM EDT, with various presales happening now. Visit Megadeth’s official website for further information.

The original lineup of Biohazard — bassist-vocalist Evan Seinfeld, guitarist-vocalist Billy Graziadei, guitarist Bobby Hambel and drummer Danny Schuler — played their first show together in over a decade in June, coming together onstage at the Jamey Jasta-resurrected Milwaukee Metal Fest.

Last September, Megadeth released the highly anticipated The Sick, The Dying… And The Dead! to both fan and critical acclaim. Megadeth Announce 2023 Tour Dates with Biohazard

Before the tour begins, both bands will perform at Blue Ridge Rock Festival in Virginia

This fall, Megadeth have added a few dates to their Crush The World Tour in North America. The trek features the original lineup of Biohazard as special guests. Check out the itinerary below.

Back in April, Megadeth launched the tour in Canada along with Bullet For My Valentine.

Last month, the original lineup of Biohazard – featuring Evan Seinfeld, Billy Graziadei, Danny Schuler, and Bobby Hambel – reunited for two sold out shows at Irving Plaza in New York City. In September, the band is slated to perform at Blue Ridge Rock Festival in Virginia along with Megadeth and many more. Biohazard are reportedly working on a new studio album.

Megadeth’s latest album  The Sick, The Dying… And The Dead!  arrived last September via Tradecraft/UMG. It debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200, and No. 1 across Billboards Top Rock, Hard Rock, and Alternative Albums charts. The record’s lead single “We’ll Be Back” was nominated for a GRAMMY® Award for Best Metal Performance.

Watch Megadeth perform a secret acoustic set outside a hotel in Buenos Aires

The thrash metal icons played the impromptu three-song show during their ongoing South American tour

Megadeth performed a surprise three-song acoustic set outside of a hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina, yesterday (April 16).

Footage of the unannounced mini-show has been uploaded to Youtube, which shows Dave Mustaine’s thrash metal heroes performing their songs Trust , Angry Again and Symphony Of Destruction on the street.

Megadeth are touring South and Central America and will perform at the Espaço Unimed venue in São Paulo, Brazil, tomorrow (April 18), before continuing through Colombia, Mexico and El Salvador.

The band will then perform at a string of European festivals in June.

Megadeth’s lineup is currently rounded out by drummer Dirk Verbeuren, bassist James LoMenzo and lead guitarist Teemu Mäntysaari, who recently replaced predecessor Kiko Loureiro.

Mäntysaari initially joined the Megadeth fold in September 2023 as a touring guitarist for their then-upcoming North American shows, while Loureiro remained home to be with his family.

Two months later, Mustaine published a statement saying that Loureiro had opted to extend his absence from the band and that they’d be moving forward with Mäntysaari indefinitely.

Loureiro explained his decision to step away from Megadeth in a November 2023 interview with Amplifica.

The guitarist said, “Due to circumstances in my life, I have taken the liberty of choosing not to be in Megadeth. Because it’s my option. Because freedom is having the choice between two viable options; that is freedom.”

He added that he almost missed the birth of his daughter, Livia, in 2011 because he was on tour with his former band Angra.

Similarly, in 2016, the guitarist returned to touring with Megadeth just 10 days after his wife, Finnish pianist Maria Ilmoniemi, gave birth to twins.

Megadeth released their most recent album – The Sick, The Dying… And The Dead! – via Tradecraft and Universal on September 2, 2022.

The "20 Years Of Tears" tour, a once-in-a-lifetime 56-date, U.S. trek featuring varying lineups surrounding core co-headliners HAWTHORNE HEIGHTS , THURSDAY , SAOSIN and ANBERLIN , kicks off this June before wrapping up in mid-September.

Megadeth To Bring Crush The World Tour To Latin America In 2024

Fresh off the heels of a wildly successful 2023 international tour across Europe, Canada and the United States, iconic thrash metal pioneer Megadeth has announced new dates on the Crush The World Tour set for 2024. The band will make their triumphant return to Latin America for 10 shows, with the first stop in Lima, Peru on Saturday, April 6. In addition to Peru, upcoming stops include Chile, Uruguay, Argentina, Brazil and México. Tickets for select dates will be available for fan-club members beginning Saturday, November 11 at 10AM local time at www.megadeth.com/tour .
