Best photography tour in nepal.

I thought the trip was a real adventure and fantastic!  Road works were in progress and we took longer to travel between places but those who flew definitely missed out on "the real experience".  The driver and guides were very helpful and informative and I felt sorry for the driver having to have such long days skillfully navigating traffic. We were lucky to see plenty of wildlife in Chitwan and it was rather special to have a rhino right beside the road.  Our guide in Chitwan was very knowledgeable and helpful and the accommodation was fantastic. It was great to experience the Cultural show. Our city guide in Kathmandu was also very knowledgeable and helpful, as was our main guide. Having 2 groups of 10 passengers was a great idea as we were able to get to know each other well and it was a good number for the guides/driver to handle.  It was unfortunate, though, that our main guide was not present at the farewell dinner.  I felt that the whole trip was organised well. I think it a great idea that we were able to see the sunrise over the Annapurna Range and the Everest flight was also great.

Day 01 Arrival in Kathmandu.

When you arrive in Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal and the departure location for many well-liked photography tour packages, the tour officially begins. You will be picked up at Tribhuvan International Airport and driven to the hotel by one of our agents. Delicious Nepali food will be served to you along with a warm welcome in the evening, and you will receive further information.

Day 02 Visiting Local Market and World heritage site.

An excellent breakfast is served at the hotel to start the day. We will travel to Swayambhunath, also known as the "Monkey Temple," after breakfast. Swayambhunath is one of Nepal's holiest locations, and the stupa has served as a symbol of faith and peace for both Buddhists and Hindus for many years. Swayambhunath, a small hillock northwest of Kathmandu City, provides a good vantage point to capture the city's aerial view. After that, we visit Boudhanath Stupa, Pashupatinath Temple, and Kathmandu Durbar Square.

In the evening, we'll practice some street photography at the active regional local markets. Local markets, which frequently play a significant role in residents' daily lives, are the best place to find candid photos. We'll send you back to the hotel after you've explored the market.

Day 03 Visiting Bhaktapur Durbar Square.

After breakfast, you are picked up from the hotel by our knowledgeable guide, who then takes you to Bhaktapur before continuing on to the Araniko highway. Bhaktapur is the best preserved of the three medieval old citadels in the Kathmandu Valley. It is renowned for its cobblestone streets, tiny alleyways, distinctive architecture, and rich history. We will explore the traditional Durbar Square, the 55-window palace, the Lion Gate, the Golden Gate, and other historic sites while looking for photo ops.

You will also visit Pottery Square to see local potters at work, spinning their wheels and drying out their terracotta creations. Your lunch will be in Bhaktapur. If you have time, visit Patan as well; otherwise, return to Kathmandu by car.

Day 04 Fly to Chitwan National Park.

After breakfast, fly to Chitwan National Park, which is one of Nepal's most popular national parks for wildlife photography. It's a bit far to take a private vehicle; that’s why we're taking a flight. After arriving at your destination in the evening, take pleasure in capturing the golden hour as the sun sets over the Rapti River.

Day 05 Full-day jungle safari in Chitwan National Park.

After breakfast, we'll go on a full-day Jeep safari to explore more of the inner jungle and photograph exotic wildlife. If you're lucky, you might get the chance to view photographs of the Royal Bengal Tiger, the sloth bear, and various other animals.

Landscape Photography Tips for Nepal tour

Mastering composition techniques of photography.

Composition is key to creating visually striking photographs. Experiment with the rule of thirds, placing your subjects off-center for a more dynamic composition. Utilize leading lines to draw the viewer's eye into the frame, whether it's the winding alleys of Kathmandu or the majestic trails of the Annapurna region. Incorporate foreground elements such as flowers or prayer flags to add depth and a sense of scale to your landscape photographs.

Utilizing Natural Light for Captivating Shots

Nepal's landscapes are bathed in enchanting natural light, especially during sunrise and sunset. Wake up early and capture the soft golden hues illuminating the Himalayan peaks or the tranquil lakeshores. During the golden hour and blue hour, when the sun is low on the horizon, the warm and cool tones create a magical atmosphere. Experiment with different angles and exposures to capture the best moments during these magical hours.

Creating Long Exposure Images of Waterfalls and Rivers

Nepal's abundant waterfalls and rivers offer opportunities for captivating long exposure photography. Using a tripod and a slow shutter speed, capture the silky flow of water as it cascades down the mountains or meanders through lush valleys. Experiment with different shutter speeds to create a variety of effects, from dreamy and ethereal to crisp and dynamic. Remember to use a neutral density filter to control the amount of light entering the lens and achieve longer exposure times.

Wildlife Photography Tips in

Researching the behavior of the animals.

Before photographing wildlife in Nepal, it's essential to research the behavior and habitats of the animals you wish to capture. Understanding their patterns, feeding habits, and preferred locations will increase your chances of getting that perfect shot. Consult local guides or experienced wildlife photographers who can provide valuable insights into the best times and locations to photograph specific species.

Choosing the Right Lenses for Wildlife Photography

Selecting the appropriate lenses for wildlife photography is crucial to capture intimate details from a distance. A telephoto lens with a focal length of at least 200mm is recommended to bring your subjects closer while maintaining a safe distance. Consider investing in a telephoto zoom lens to have more flexibility in composing your shots and adjusting the focal length based on the subject's proximity.

Patience and Anticipation in Capturing Wildlife Moments

Patience is a virtue in wildlife photography, and Nepal's wilderness demands it. Spend time observing the animals' behavior and anticipate their movements to capture natural and engaging shots. Be prepared to wait for extended periods, staying quiet and still, to capture that decisive moment when a rare bird takes flight or a wild animal exhibits its unique behavior. Remember, the best wildlife photographs often require perseverance and a keen eye for detail.

Techniques for Photographing Birds in Flight

Photographing birds in flight can be challenging but incredibly rewarding. Practice tracking moving subjects and adjusting your camera's autofocus settings accordingly. Use burst mode to capture a series of shots in rapid succession, increasing the chances of capturing that perfect moment when a bird spreads its wings or swoops down for a graceful landing. Experiment with different shutter speeds to freeze the motion or create a sense of motion blur, adding dynamism to your photographs.

Night Photography in Nepal

Shooting star trails and the night sky.

Nepal's pristine night skies provide an excellent opportunity for capturing stunning star trails. Find a location away from light pollution, set up your camera on a sturdy tripod, and use a wide-angle lens to capture the vastness of the night sky. Enable the bulb mode or set a long exposure time to capture the movement of the stars as they create mesmerizing trails across the frame. Patience and careful planning are crucial to create captivating images of the celestial wonders above.

Capturing Cityscapes and Light Trails

Nepal's cities come alive at night, offering a myriad of opportunities for captivating cityscape photography. Capture the glittering lights and architectural marvels of Kathmandu or Pokhara by finding elevated vantage points. Experiment with different exposure times to capture light trails created by vehicles moving through the streets, adding a sense of movement and energy to your images. Utilize leading lines and reflections to create visually striking compositions.

Tips for Low-Light Photography in Temples and Monasteries

Nepal is home to numerous temples and monasteries, and exploring them during low-light conditions can create magical and atmospheric photographs. Use a tripod to stabilize your camera and select a low ISO to reduce noise in your images. Experiment with longer exposure times to capture the soft glow of candlelight or the warm hues emanating from butter lamps. Be respectful of the sanctity of these religious sites and seek permission before photographing any religious ceremonies or rituals.

Interacting with the Nepali People

Building rapport and seeking permission.

Building a connection with the Nepali People is key to capturing authentic and meaningful photographs. Approach people with respect, show genuine interest in their culture, and engage in conversations before asking for their permission to photograph them. Establishing a rapport and creating a comfortable environment will result in more natural and candid portraits that reflect the true essence of the Nepalese people.

Understanding the Cultural Sensitivities

Nepal is a culturally diverse country, and it's crucial to be mindful of the cultural sensitivities while photographing people. Respect their traditions, religious beliefs, and social norms. Always ask for permission before photographing religious ceremonies, temples, or private homes. Remember that photography should never intrude or disrupt the natural flow of daily life or sacred rituals.

Documenting the Daily Lives of Locals

Beyond the cultural landmarks and festivals, Nepal's true essence lies in the daily lives of its people. Take the time to document the everyday moments, the laborious work in the fields, the smiles of children playing, and the camaraderie of locals in tea houses. By immersing yourself in their lives, you'll capture compelling images that reveal the beauty and resilience of the Nepalese people.

Editing and Post-Processing

Organizing and backing up your photographs.

Organization is key to maintaining an efficient workflow during post-processing. Create a systematic file naming and folder structure to categorize and store your images. Invest in reliable storage devices and regularly back up your photographs to ensure their safety. Consider using cloud-based storage options or portable hard drives to protect your images from loss or accidental damage.

Selecting the Best Images for Editing

Not every photograph needs post-processing. Review your images with a critical eye, selecting the ones that best represent your vision and story. Look for strong composition, captivating subject matter, and emotional impact. Focus on quality over quantity, as showcasing a smaller selection of well-edited images will have a more significant impact on your audience.

Enhancing Your Photos with Editing Software

Editing software can help you transform your raw images into compelling visual narratives. Use tools like Adobe Lightroom or Capture One to adjust exposure, contrast, and color balance. Fine-tune the highlights and shadows to bring out the desired details and add a personal artistic touch. However, remember to maintain the authenticity of your images and avoid excessive manipulation that may distort the reality you captured.

Preserving the Authenticity of Your Images

While editing can enhance the visual impact of your photographs, it's essential to preserve the authenticity of the moments you captured. Avoid over-processing your images to the point where they become unrealistic or lose their genuine essence. Strive for a balance between artistic expression and staying true to the scene and emotions you witnessed during your Nepal photography tour.

Photography Ethics and Responsible Tourism

Respecting the environment and wildlife.

As photographers, it's our responsibility to protect the environment and respect the wildlife we encounter. Adhere to ethical practices such as maintaining a safe distance from wildlife, not disturbing their natural behavior, and following designated trails or paths to minimize environmental impact. Leave no trace and ensure that your presence as a photographer does not negatively impact the delicate ecosystems you visit.

Cultural Sensitivity in Photography

Respecting the cultural sensitivities of the places and people you photograph is paramount. Be mindful of local customs, dress codes, and religious beliefs. Seek permission before photographing individuals, religious ceremonies, or sacred sites. Remember that photography should be a means of connection and celebration rather than exploitation or objectification.

Giving Back to the Local Communities

Photography can be a powerful tool for positive change and community development. Consider giving back to the local communities you encounter during your Nepal photography tour. Support local artisans by purchasing their crafts, engage in responsible tourism practices, or explore opportunities to collaborate with local organizations that promote sustainable development through photography.

Safety Tips for Photographers

Staying informed about travel advisories.

Before embarking on your Nepal photography tour, stay informed about the latest travel advisories and safety precautions. Check the official websites of your home country's foreign affairs department or consult with travel experts who have up-to-date information on the current situation in Nepal. Familiarize yourself with local emergency contact numbers and keep copies of important documents such as passports and travel insurance.

Protecting Your Gear from Theft and Damage

Protecting your photography gear is crucial to ensure a smooth and worry-free tour. Invest in reliable camera bags or backpacks with padded compartments to safeguard your equipment. Use sturdy camera straps or harnesses to prevent accidental drops or theft. Consider purchasing insurance to cover any potential damage or theft of your gear during the trip.

Health and Safety Considerations in Nepal

When traveling to Nepal, it's essential to prioritize your health and safety. Consult a healthcare professional or travel clinic to receive necessary vaccinations or medications before your trip. Carry a basic first aid kit, including essentials like bandages, pain relievers, and insect repellent. Stay hydrated, follow proper hygiene practices, and be mindful of food safety to avoid any health issues during your photography tour.

  • Roam58396651739 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Bhandar - Gokyo - EBC trek (March - April 2023) I arrived in Nepal in mid-March with the idea of doing a long (at least 2-week) trek to Gokyo in the Everest (Khumbu) region. I had the time and wanted to acclimatize slowly by spending a week or so of trekking to reach the popular destination of Namche Bazaar. I was introduced to Kiran of Altitude Himalaya who assured me that my ideas of trekking from Jiri to Gokyo (and potentially Everest Base Camp if acclimatization went well) were do-able over the course of 18-20 days. Kiran immediately came across as friendly, knowledgeable and experienced. He suggested that he and I do a practice hike to get a sense of my capabilities and what I could expect to find on my trek. We did this hike, it was a very good idea, and within a day he found a guide for me, Sudip, who also had a lot of experience and knew the terrain I was going to. Sudip was a fine guide, knowledgeable, strong, and an easy personality to be around. The trek started at Bimti Bhandar (east of Jiri) and, over the following 19 days, took me to Taksindu, Nunthala, Karakhola, Chaulikharka, Namche, Dole, Machermo and then to Gokyo. With me having acclimatized okay, Sudip and I continued over to Cho La Pass and then linked up with the main trail to Everest Base Camp. We went up there and then returned to Namche via Pengboche. It was a strenuous trek at times but this is what anyone doing this should expect and the pay off is the fact that you have spectacular landscapes all around you. The lodges all served good healthy food and made travelers feel at home. The lodges on the EBC trail were very busy by mid-April but we always found a place for ourselves. Kiran was only a phone call away and helped out whenever we had these rare uncertainties about accommodation. But Kiran checked in with Sudip and I occasionally anyway to hear about how things were going. The trek finished in Lukla and Sudip and I flew from there to Ramachap Airport and then a bus transfer to Kathmandu. After I returned to Kathmandu, it was a pleasure for me to take Kiran and Sudip out for dinner and drinks. They were also generous to me in their own way and are great ambassadors for Nepal. Well done to Altitude Himalaya and I wish their venture much success! Read more Written June 5, 2023

We are a family of 4, kids age 11 and 8. We requested a 21 day cultural and sightseeing tour for our first visit to Nepal. Kiran really catered well to all of our requests and put together the perfect itinerary for us. The trip covered all the main things we requested plus Kiran added lots of others activities that he felt we would enjoy and he was spot on with everything. The helicopter tour to Everest was definitely our highlight, expensive - but well worth it for this once in a lifetime experience. The whole team were fantastic from our drivers to tour guides, trekking guides and hotel staff. Special mention to Aashish and Nayan who were our trekking guide and porter for the 6 days Annapurna trek. They looked after us well, were very kind with our kids and even taught us a new card game! We really don’t have any negatives from our trip, Kiran was available the whole time if we needed him for anything and even sorted us out with a driver and hotel at the last minute when one of our internal flights was cancelled. If you are still unsure if you want to book a trip to Nepal, please don’t hesitate. It was the best trip we have taken as a family and we are already planning to return. They sent us the proposed iternary on my email and then we started communication over WhatsApp. I was in contact with Mr. Kiran who is an expert of the Himalayan region and gave us the best possible iternary for the same. He was quick to respond to my questions and I would say patient also 😬. He suggested that we start from Pokhra then Chitwan then Nagarkot then Kathmandu according to the weather forecast. Yes, they give that amount of attention to details. And the car provided was pretty comfy with a friendly driver. We had the time of our lives in Nepal and would definitely choose Altitude Himalaya without a doubt for our next adventure in Nepal. Read more Written June 19, 2019

  • The post-monsoon greenery adds vibrance to the landscapes, enhancing the natural beauty of both highland and lowland areas.
  • Autumn is also a time for major festivals in Nepal, such as Dashain and Tihar, offering rich cultural photography opportunities.

Spring (March to May) :

  • Spring is renowned for the blooming of rhododendrons and other wildflowers, adding spectacular colors to the forests and hills, particularly in the Annapurna and Langtang regions.
  • The weather is warmer, and the skies remain clear, especially in the mornings, offering excellent conditions for both mountain and cultural landscapes.
  • Wildlife in national parks like Chitwan and Bardia is more active, making it a great time for wildlife photography.

Considerations for Other Seasons :

  • Winter (December to February) can offer clear skies and fewer tourists, but colder temperatures and snow may limit access to higher elevations. However, it's an excellent time for capturing snow-capped landscapes and attending winter festivals.
  • Summer/Monsoon (June to August) presents challenges with rain and clouds obscuring mountain views. Yet, it's a period when landscapes turn lush green, and agricultural activities peak, offering a different perspective on rural life and nature.

Ultimately, the best time for a photography tour in Nepal depends on your specific interests and the subjects you wish to focus on. Each season brings its own unique beauty and challenges, providing diverse opportunities for photographers to capture Nepal's multifaceted charm.

Tips for the Photography Tour in Nepal

A photography tour in Nepal is an adventure that offers an abundance of diverse subjects, from the world's highest peaks and lush landscapes to rich cultural festivities and ancient architecture. Here are some tips to make the most of your photography tour in Nepal:

Research and Plan : Research your destinations thoroughly. Knowing the best times for sunrise and sunset, as well as cultural events and festivals, can help you capture the most compelling images.

Gear Up Appropriately : Bring a sturdy tripod for long exposure shots and landscapes. A variety of lenses can help capture everything from wide landscapes to detailed portraits. Don't forget extra batteries and memory cards, as charging facilities can be scarce in remote areas.

Respect Local Culture : Always ask for permission before photographing people. Understanding and respecting local customs and traditions can also open doors to more intimate and authentic photography opportunities.

Be Ready for Varied Lighting Conditions : Nepal's diverse topography means lighting conditions can change rapidly, especially in the mountains. Be prepared to adjust your camera settings accordingly and consider using filters to manage harsh sunlight or enhance skies.

Pack Light and Smart : While it's important to be prepared, remember that you might have to carry your equipment for long periods, often on challenging terrains. Pack as light as possible without sacrificing essential gear.

Learn Some Basic Nepali Phrases : Communicating with locals can significantly enhance your photography experience. Knowing simple phrases in Nepali can help you connect with your subjects and make them more comfortable in front of the camera.

Embrace the Unexpected : Weather and plans can change rapidly, especially in the Himalayas. Be open and flexible to adapt your photography plans. Sometimes, the most unforgettable shots come from unforeseen moments.

Protect Your Equipment : Dust, moisture, and rough travel can take a toll on your camera gear. Use protective cases and consider bringing a cleaning kit to keep your equipment in top condition.

Early Bird Gets the Worm : Start your days early to capture the soft morning light and avoid the midday harsh sunlight. Early mornings are also great for capturing bustling market scenes and quiet, serene landscapes.

Backup Your Photos Regularly : Losing photos can be devastating. Regularly back up your images on an external hard drive or cloud storage to prevent data loss.

A photography tour in Nepal is not just about capturing beautiful images but also about immersing yourself in the country's breathtaking landscapes and rich cultural heritage. Keeping these tips in mind can help you make the most of your photographic journey through this incredible country.

A photography tour through Nepal is an enriching journey that transcends capturing landscapes and cultural moments; it's an immersion into the heart and soul of a diverse and vibrant country. From the towering peaks of the Everest and Annapurna regions to the serene beauty of Phewa Lake in Pokhara , the ancient allure of Kathmandu Valley's temples, and the untouched wilderness of the Kanchenjunga Area, each destination offers a unique palette for photographers. The tranquil spirituality of Lumbini, the rugged landscapes of Manang and Mustang , the reflective waters of Rara Lake, and the verdant tea gardens of Ilam, alongside the timeless culture of Bhaktapur and the natural wonders of the Langtang Region, provide endless opportunities to create compelling narratives through the lens. Nepal's diverse landscapes, rich traditions, and the warmth of its people ensure that every photograph tells a story, making a photography tour in Nepal a profoundly memorable experience that goes beyond the visual spectacle, touching the essence of exploration and discovery.

The 12 Best Places for Photography in Nepal

The 12 Best Places for Photography in Nepal

Balaram Thapa

There are many beautiful sights throughout Nepal, from the bustling streets of Kathmandu to hill stations just a few hours' drive away from the city. There are always great places to practice street or landscape photography. The Terai is a wonderful place to explore jungles and seek tigers or rhinos, while the mountainous regions allow for breathtaking views, beautiful forest trails, and quaint villages.

Whether you are a seasoned photographer or an amateur looking to break out your camera for the first time, Nepal is an incredible place to explore. When planning your next trip to Nepal, make sure you include a few of these destinations in your itinerary.

Kathmandu Durbar Square

Kathamndu Durbar Square

Known as Basantapur by locals, Kathmandu Durbar Square is a well-known, culturally significant part of the city where locals and tourists tend to gather. One can spend hours wandering the brick-paved streets, gazing at temples, watching children play, young people on dates, and people selling a variety of local street foods. All community places like Kathmandu Durbar Square are filled with pigeons and people taking unique photos.

There are also frequently significant cultural events, such as feasts and jatras held in the area, which are exceptionally interesting to capture. People are often dressed in colorful cultural clothing, and during Holi, one can capture the fun had by people painting each other with vibrant colors. Tour guides can help you immensely at any of the three Durbar squares to discuss the history of each building and explain its cultural significance.

Boudhanath Stupa

Most people who have spent any amount of time there will agree that Boudhanath Stupa is a magical place. The white dome is surrounded by buildings, making it feel like a different world from the chaotic streets just on the other side. Buddhist chants can be heard from stores selling souvenirs, books, jewelry, crystals, and prayer flags. A monastery within the circle of buildings frequently means monks circling the stupa, turning the prayer wheels. You can visit the monastery to talk with monks and have a better view of the incredible stupa. However, I would recommend visiting one of the rooftop restaurants in the area for coffee, tea, or lunch.

There are tiny oil lamps to be seen around the stupa in the evenings, and it remains busy until quite late. Like many places in Nepal, Boudhanath is a pilgrimage for many Buddhists and people from around the world to pray and worship. In long colorful skirts and holding prayer wheels, Tibetan women are ordinary as they circle the stupa, whispering prayers. The colors, people, and feel of Boudhanath are unique to Kathmandu and must be captured while visiting the city.

Bhaktapur Durbar Square

The next Durbar Square, located in the Kathmandu Valley, is one that you should not miss. Bhaktapur is located 16 kilometers east of Basantapur yet feels like a different world. The Newari architecture and culture found in Bhaktapur are like nothing else, filled with ancient houses, temples, and phokharis (small ponds) for you to capture. There are also many great rooftops to perch on throughout the city, hosting stellar views of the surrounding hills and snow-capped mountains on a clear day. As you wander through the city, you will find the pottery square, where you can find hundreds of pots, piggy banks, and other clay items drying in the sun on sunny days. Be sure to check out the nearby buildings where locals can be found shaping the clay into anything you can imagine.

There is a special kind of magic in Bhaktapur, with its narrow streets, old palaces, and surrounding green hills. Do not forget to try the famous juju dhau and snap a photo of the traditional clay pot it is served in on the brick-paved streets. Check out some tours to the area to help you make your way from Kathmandu and allow you to see all parts of this unique town!

Patan Durbar Square

Patan Durbar Square

The last of the three kingdoms, Patan Durbar Square, is a popular gathering place for friends, dates, and those looking to enjoy delicious street foods. There are frequently cultural festivals in the area. Check out the ancient waterspouts where locals can be found showering or washing clothes. Several temples, including the Golden Temple, are a photographer’s paradise. It is filled with people on any given day, priests chanting, people putting tika (red marks on the forehead representing blessings), and groups of people reading from Hindu scriptures.

In addition to the many temples and statues, there are many street food stalls, old water taps, ways to peek into smaller temples, and artwork lining the streets in addition to handicrafts. The combination of temples, people, and street food makes Patan a great place to spend the morning capturing parts of local life and beliefs. There are many tours to Patan, including food tours where you will have opportunities to try local street foods and take some incredible photos.

Swayambhunath Stupa

Swambhunath

Also known as the Monkey Temple, Swayambhunath Stupa is perched on a hill just a few minutes walk from Thamel. Here you can enjoy 360-degree views of the city, in addition to drinking in the local Buddhist and Hindu cultures. This is a special place in both cultures, and many people make pilgrimages to see it. The white dome, golden spire, and colorful prayer flags fluttering in the wind make for stunning photos on a sunny day or in the evening as the sunsets. Around each corner, there are small temples, statues, and prayer wheels.

Additionally, one can almost always find a priest chanting as they circle the stupa. The stupa is also a fantastic place to capture photos of monkeys, given away by its nickname. Just make sure you hold onto your camera and other items so they don’t get stolen by the quick and clever creatures. Swayambhunath is a great place to spend the day exploring, photographing people, watching the sky change over the city, and laughing as young monkeys climb the stupa and play together.

Asan Indra Chowk Local Market

Ashon Bazar

Asan Indrachowk is an exceptionally famous local market just a 10-minute walk from Thamel. It is known to locals and tourists alike and is a busy intersection where one can come by nearly anything they desire. Due to its initial path on a trade route, sellers have been there for hundreds of years. You will want to spend hours wandering the streets, watching people bargaining for the best deal, and tasting a variety of foods available.

The color of local spices will draw the attention of your camera, as will the colorful outfits of locals and the rickshaws bustling by. Additionally, the copper pots and pans glistening in the sun beside old brick buildings will be sure to make an excellent photograph.

Khokana and Bungamati

Khokana

Khokana and Bungamati are rustic Newari towns just outside of Kathmandu. Khokana is an ancient village where you can see locals spinning wool to stuff mattresses with cotton and dry rice and straw on the streets. The Shekala Mai Temple is of religious significance, and you will be able to observe religious practices here. There is a Jatra festival in the fall where masked dancers fill the streets in honor of the goddess Shikali, known as the mother goddess. Bungamati is just a short drive away and overlooks the Bagmati River. This village is filled with ancient temples and woodcarvings.

You can visit showrooms where people continue to practice ancient wood carving practices. Their work is a big part of Newar culture and is fascinating to watch and photograph. The main temple is in a square at the center of town, another community gathering place where you can see many people and enjoy some street photography.

There is also a festival known as Rato Machhendranath, where a chariot goes between Patan and Bungamati. If you are lucky enough to catch the festival, you will witness women pulling the massive chariot across Kathmandu to Bungamati, followed by crowds of people. Tours to this area take about 6 hours and can provide you with additional information about the history of the towns and make transportation a breeze.

Nagarkot for Mountain Landscape

nagarkot

Nagarkot is popular with locals and tourists as it is one of the best places to enjoy views of the Himalayas from your hotel room. It is about 32 kilometers from Kathmandu and offers beautiful hiking or time to relax with incredible sights. Mountain ranges visible from this spot include Annapurna, Manaslu, Ganesh Himal, Langtang, and even Everest on clear days. Those who enjoy landscape photography should be sure to wake up early and catch the sunrise from the view tower. There are also many hikes to and from Nagarkot, which allow you to walk through the hills and spend the day with stunning panoramic views of the mountains.

Bandipur, Local Village, and Mountain Landscape

Bandipur

Bandipur is 140 kilometers west of Kathmandu, which will allow you to enjoy some winding roads through the hills with views of small villages and rest stops on the drive. Another Newari village, Bandipur, was also formed due to its location on the trade route between India and Tibet. It is a unique village with pagoda-style rooftops, lattice windows, and ornate doorways, which will make for memorable photos.

The village also offers stunning views of the Himalayas and the beautiful green hills. You can stroll through the village to enjoy more temples and fields of rice. There are also caves, Hindu shrines, and many festivals. This is another beautiful place to get out of the city and enjoy some landscape photography from a stunning location. It is ideal for arranging tours to this location, possibly as a stop on your way to or from Pokhara.

Chitwan National Park

Located in the Terai, where the land begins to stretch out and flatten, Chitwan National Park awaits wildlife photographers. Jeep or walking jungle safaris allow you to get up close and personal with animals in the wild. The park is filled with rare and endangered animals like the one-horned rhinoceros, Bengal tiger, Asian elephant, four-horned antelope, pangolin, and golden monitor lizard, to name a few.

The Rapti River and sunsets are also extraordinary, and any photographer wants to capture them. Bis Hazari Lake is also a beautiful place to check out. Around Chitwan, there are also many cultural programs to learn about the Tharu culture and dances in the evenings. Lastly, the many long and straight roads are drastically different from the hills you will experience on most of your adventures in Nepal and are fun to catch.

Pokhara, Phewa Lake

Pokhara

Once again, Pokhara is a relaxing destination for Nepalese and locals. A starting point for all treks going into Annapurna, there are a variety of restaurants and hotels with stunning views. Not only can you see the mountains, but the city is situated at the edge of Phewa Lake.

Those looking for an adventure can row a boat out onto the lake, where you will be treated to the reflection of Machhapuchchhre and its neighbors on the water, and then climb up the peace pagoda for even better views. However, if you have just come back from a trek and are looking to relax, there are plenty of hotels and restaurants with fabulous views of the lake.

Sarangkot for Sunrise and Sunset

Sarangkot is a popular and well-known destination for sunrise hikes and extraordinary panoramas of the Annapurna Mountain range. Every morning, crowds of people surround the edges of the hill, waiting for the sun to rise and cast golden rays of light across the snow-capped mountains. While you have to get up early for the hike or drive up the hill, it is well worth it! With 360-degree views of the mountains and Pokhara below, you will want to make sure your camera is charged before going up the hill.

The views get better and better as the sun slowly rises over the hills; however, it is also beautiful on a clear day. Looking down, there are also great views of small villages north of Pokhara and rivers running out of the mountains. For those who love landscape photography, it will be a heavenly morning! While there are many options to reach the summit, tours can be arranged to ensure that you don’t miss the sunrise early in the morning.

Nepal is an incredible country with various landscapes, people, cultures, and animals for you to discover. From the Terai to the mountaintops, there will always be something that captures your heart and camera lens. There are tons of festivals throughout the year that you do not want to miss, as they will leave you just as speechless as the mountain views.

Nepal Hiking Team can arrange photography tours to these locations and more to make your trip to Nepal smooth and easy to plan. Please reach out and let us know what you are looking for in Nepal, and we will ensure your stay goes just as planned.
