NOFX Announces Final Shows of Punk Legends’ Farewell Tour

  • By Daniel Kreps

Daniel Kreps

When punk legends NOFX first revealed plans for their farewell tour in September 2022, frontman Fat Mike promised, “Los Angeles will be the last place we play. It’s where we started, it’s where we’ll end.” Over two years later, the band has announced that their five-decade run will come to an end in October 2024 with a three-night stand in their native California.

Before that, however, NOFX have lined up another string of dates for their farewell tour, which was previously dubbed “40 Years, 40 Cities, 40 Songs” due to each gig’s unique 40-song setlist. However, the trek expanded overseas (including Australia and Europe) and now into 2024, with the next run of dates beginning April 6 in Fort Worth, Texas.

I loved the show, but I could do without all of the starter bands. NOFX only played for about an hour and a half compared to the 6 hours of starter bands.

Show was amazing. No complaints. Keep up the good work. Drink stands were food. Service was good. Security was good. Keep up the good work. Thanks for the good experience.

The concert was the day of trumps election, and the previous show mike sprained his ankle. Suffice to say Fat Mike was not having a good night, and it showed. The band was totally not into playing and you could tell they just wanted to get off stage. CLASSIC NOFX, awesome show 10/10 would get called a poser again.

NOFX Announces Final Tour: 40 Years, 40 Cities, 40 Songs Per Day

Influential punk band NOFX is known as one of the world’s most controversial and significant punk bands of their time. They are no strangers to pushing boundaries at their live shows, and their final tour will be no different. The dream team of NOFX and Cameron Collins from Brew Ha Ha Productions and the Punk In Drublic Craft Beer & Music Festival has reunited to curate the first wave of announced tour dates in the United States.

The forty-cities-around-the-world tour begins on April 22 in Austin, Texas and concludes in October 2024 in Los Angeles, California. NOFX will perform forty songs a night, including full albums and rarities, plus they will never repeat a setlist to ensure that each show is unique.

NOFX frontman Fat Mike says: "This is not a final tour like MÖTLEY CRÜE or BLACK SABBATH … These are the very last shows NOFX will ever be playing. We are gonna play with all our hearts…With all our joy…And then we are done. We are done done."

NOFX final tour commences with a massive 21+ punk rock and beer weekend camping festival at Carson Creek Ranch in Austin, Texas on April 22 and April 23 that will feature special guests PENNYWISE , CIRCLE JERKS , FACE TO FACE , RIVERBOAT GAMBLERS , CODEFENDANTS , GET DEAD , BAD COP BAD COP , THE BOMBPOPS , PEARS , PIÑATA PROTEST and more.

Tickets for these shows go on sale this Friday, January 13 at 10:00 a.m. PT at www.PunkInDrublicFest.com. Options include single day, the Bro Bundle, VIP, and more including a digital download of each show with ticket purchase.

Initial tour dates are as follows, with more European dates, venues, and lineups to be announced soon:

April 22- 23 - Austin, TX – Carson Creek Ranch (campout) May 13 - San Diego, CA May 19-20 - Barcelona, Spain June 02 - Linz, Austria June 24-25 - Columbus, OH (campout) July 22- 23: Tacoma, WA September 16 - San Francisco, CA September 30 - St. Petersburg, FL

NOFX formed in Los Angeles back in 1983. They were forged in the same fiery furnaces of the L.A. hardcore scene that gave us BAD RELIGION , SUICIDAL TENDENCIES , THE GERMS and DESCENDENTS . NOFX sharpened their teeth in that tumultuous talent pool until they joined forces with Epitaph Records in 1989 and went on to release a string of crucial skate-punk albums. Their first major breakthrough came in the form of 1990's "Ribbed" , still a fan favorite, they then followed up with now-classics "White Trash, Two Heebs And A Bean" and "Punk In Drublic" , the latter selling well over a million copies. That was a wildly successful decade for NOFX as the band popularized the Warped Tour and was the flagship band for the skate/surf/snow culture of the 1990s.

NOFX 's career-long ban on doing the mainstream press and media was lifted as they sought to actively share their dissent for the Bush administration and speak out against the invasion of Iraq. And once the floodgates were open, NOFX and their "Rock Against Bush" movement were everywhere: Newsweek , Rolling Stone , New York Times , Howard Stern and network television. All that high-profile interest and hype was reflected in the success of their 2003 record "The War On Errorism" , which was the No. 1 independent record in the country at the time if its release and topped Billboard 's indie chart.

The in-progress forty cities around the world tour began on April 22, 2023 in Austin, TX. The trek includes shows in Australia in January, Europe in May and June, and the April through October 2024 North American dates. NOFX will perform forty songs a night, including full albums and rarities at all shows during the NOFX Final Tour. Plus, they will never repeat a setlist to ensure that each show is unique.

Influential punk band NOFX , whose members are: Fat Mike as vocalist and bassist, guitarists Eric Melvin and El Hefe , and drummer “Smelly” Eric Sandin , is known as one of the world’s most controversial and significant punk bands of their time. NOFX formed in Los Angeles in 1983 and went on to sell over 6 million records worldwide, including two records that went gold in the US and Canada. They are no strangers to pushing boundaries at their live shows, and their final tour is no different.

Fat Mike said: “We’ve played over 2000 shows in 33 countries, in more than 300 cities and darn it…we’re a bit tired. One thing I know in my heart…this is going to be the most emotional, heartbreaking, greatest tour of our career. I’ve never been so excited and at the same time terrified. Mostly excited…”

NOFX has again partnered with Cameron Collins from Brew Ha Ha Productions and the Punk In Drublic Craft Beer & Music Festival to curate and produce the North American NOFX Final Tour events. Most dates feature craft beer and craft beverage tasting for festival patrons 21+ from Noon until 3:00 PM.

“Working with NOFX as their U.S. promoter for these many years has been the highlight of my professional career,” Collins said. “The friendships between the BHHP and NOFX crew that have developed over the years will continue long after these shows have gone and the last chords are played. This final year of NOFX will be one of joy, celebration and tears…I can’t wait to make some final memories with NOFX and send them off into whatever is next for each of these talented and exceptional dudes!”

Frenzal Rhomb, Bodyjar + More to Support NOFX on Their Final Australian Tour

By Emmy Mack

NOFX  have named the acts who’ll be warming up the stage for their final Australian tour in January 2024. A stack of local bands will be doing the honours at each stop on the pop-punk daddies’ farewell lap, including favourites Frenzal Rhomb , Bodyjar and Clowns .

NOFX have six shows locked in on the east coast early next year, playing two shows each in Sydney, Brisbane, and Melbourne.

Clowns – ‘THANKS 4 NOTHING ‘

The Sydney show on Saturday, 20th January will see Bodyjar and Charlotte & The Harlots on support duties, while Frenzal Rhomb and I Heard They Suck At Conversation!! will do the honours the next night.

Brisbane is getting Frenzal Rhomb and Flangipanis on night one and The Bennies and VOIID on night two. Melbourne will cop Bodyjar and Something Something Explosion on Friday, 26th January and Clowns and Fever Shack on Saturday, 27th January.

As for the headliners themselves, NOFX have announced that the first shows in each city will feature tracks from their  Wolves In Wolves’ Clothing ,  Punk In Drublic , and  The War On Errorism LPs, while the second dates will feature songs from  White Trash, Two Heebs And A Bean ,  So Long And Thanks For All The Shoes , and  The Decline . Fat Mike racism

NOFX have announced a pair of UK headline shows as part of their 2023 farewell tour – tickets will be available here .

Last September, frontman Fat Mike told fans on Instagram that the Los Angeles punk-rock band would be breaking up this year having formed in 1983. “It’s been an amazing run,” he wrote at the time.

This month saw NOFX detail a string of US dates , which are due to take place between April and September.

“This is not a final tour like Mötley Crüe  or  Black Sabbath ,” Fat Mike said in a statement. “These are the very last shows NOFX will ever be playing. We are gonna play with all our hearts…With all our joy…And then we are done. We are done done.”

Now, it’s been confirmed that Slam Dunk Festival will host “two extra standalone shows” that’ll serve as NOFX’s final-ever UK gigs.

The group will take to the stage at the event’s site at Temple Newsam in Leeds on May 26 before they head south to Hatfield Park on May 28.

“These are going to be ones not to be missed with 2 albums from their impressive back catalog being played in full each day plus loads more,” organisers wrote on social media yesterday (January 16).

Meanwhile, Enter Shikari and The Offspring are scheduled to headline Slam Dunk Festival 2023 on May 27 (Hatfield) and May 28 (Leeds). Other artists confirmed for the dual event include Creeper ,  Billy Talent  and  Bowling For Soup .

Last month, NOFX guitarist Eric Melvin suggested the band could still release new music after retiring from touring . “He still wants to record and release records as NOFX,” Melvin said, referring to Fat Mike. “So we’ll see how that works because they kind of go hand-in-hand, but they don’t have to.”

NOFX released their latest album ‘Double Album’  in December 2022, while Fat Mike launched a new band called  Codefendants , which he described as a “genre fluid musical collective — a cross between hip hop, new-wave, flamenco, and the Beatles”.

NOFX announce epic Australian shows for final ever tour

A 2023 press shot of NOFX outside a red brick building

  • X (formerly Twitter)

One of the most iconic, influential and controversial punk bands to ever do it, NOFX  are calling it quits. And they've now announced details of their final Australian tour.

Returning after playing Good Things festival over summer, January 2024 is now your very last chance to see the group live before they hang up their instruments for good. And they're making sure to wind up with a grand finish.

Taking over venues on the east coast, NOFX will perform 40-song setlists that pull all the favourites and rarities from their classic catalogue.

Playing over two nights in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane, you'll hear three full albums per performance.

1994's popular Punk In Drublic and mid-'00s releases Wolves In Wolves' Clothing  and The War On Errorism are showcased one night. The other is dedicated to late '90s records White Trash, Two Heebs And A Bean; So Long And Thanks For All The Shoes , and The Decline .

It's exactly the kind of fan service you'd dream of when your favourite band plans their last hurrah.

"This is not a final tour like Mötley Crüe or Black Sabbath. These are the very last shows NOFX will ever be playing," ringleader Fat Mike notes in a statement. "We are gonna play with all our hearts…With all our joy…And then we are done. We are done done."

The band have confirmed supports for their upcoming tour, and it is going to be a pretty ridiculous night of punk rock frivolity for all concerned.

Frenzal Rhomb , Bodyjar , Clowns and The Bennies will be main support at shows around the nation (check the dates below to see who is playing where) while a stack of great locals like VOIID ,  Charlotte & The Harlots , and Something Something Explosion will open proceedings.

The band's second Sydney show will open with a Q&A moderated by Jay and Lindsay from Frenzal Rhomb. Called I Heard They Suck At Conversation!! , the session will see the band tell stories, answer questions and more. It'll be wild.

Emerging in late '80s California, NOFX have been at the forefront of punk in America, and around the globe, for over 40 years.

They've sold millions of records, played to thousands of fans worldwide, and remain a cornerstone for anyone who's decided to pick up a guitar and bust out some power chords for a fun, fast, good time.

"I'm excited to play our last shows. I'm so thankful for all the years people have supported us," Mike told Double J in November of retiring NOFX.

Why end now? Because Fat Mike says it brings out his destructive tendencies.

"I've been doing this since I was 16," he says. "I've known these guys since we were in high school. And it's just something I haven't enjoyed for several years. I have to get loaded.

"I do have a good time on stage. I don't fake it. But in order to not to fake it, I have to fucking drink a lot and do drugs."

Tickets are on sale now.

Say your fond farewells at the following dates:

Sat 20 Jan – Hordern Pavilion: Gadigal Land, Sydney performing  Wolves In Wolves' Clothing / Punk In Drublic / The War On Errorism

(with Bodyjar, Charlotte & The Harlots)

No, John Mellencamp Did Not Promote Biden Onstage

Hecklers disrupted a concert in Ohio — and online critics pounced to say, falsely, that it started because the liberal singer had expressed support for the president.

John Mellencamp performing in front of a screen displaying multiple colors.

By Neil Vigdor

  • April 18, 2024

The song opened on cue with a “little ditty about Jack and Diane,” but then the music abruptly stopped. John Mellencamp had barely finished the second verse of his smash hit when an exchange with a heckler had clearly gotten on his nerves.

“You know what?” he told concertgoers last month in Toledo, Ohio. “Show’s over.”

Videos capturing the moment when the singer walked off the stage have ricocheted for weeks online. A cascade of right-wing chatter on social media has fueled the perception that Mr. Mellencamp brought it on himself by promoting President Biden during the show.

But that was not the case.

An audio recording provided to The New York Times by Mr. Mellencamp’s representatives, and an interview with a reporter who covered the March 17 concert for The Blade in Toledo, show that the exchange started when a heckler grew frustrated with the singer’s long-winded reminiscences about his late grandmother. Representatives for Mr. Mellencamp, who returned to the stage and resumed the concert that night several minutes after walking out, declined further comment.

Mr. Mellencamp is an unabashed liberal who has previously barred several Republican presidential candidates from using his songs at political events and has assailed Congress for its response to gun violence. But the exchange with the heckler in Toledo did not stem from any political commentary that happened onstage.

“The word Biden or election never escaped John Mellencamp’s mouth that night,” Jason Webber, who covers music for The Blade, said in an interview.

Mr. Mellencamp, 72, a member of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame , had been sharing an anecdote about how his grandmother, who had lived until the age of 100, had once cautioned him that “you’re not going to get into heaven if you don’t stop this cussing and smoking all the time.”

Not everyone appreciated his storytelling. “Play some music!” one concertgoer shouted, drawing a rebuke from Mr. Mellencamp, who called the man an expletive. The audience began to murmur, with some voicing their disapproval of the man’s interruption and some others sounding impatient, too.

At that point onstage, the singer enlisted help from his security team. “Hey Joe, find this guy and let me see him after the show,” he said, referring to one of his security guards. It was not clear whether some of Mr. Mellencamp’s critics had misinterpreted his reference to the security guard as a reference to the president.

Mr. Mellencamp then suggested that he would cut short his concert because of the heckling.

Scott Walker, a former Wisconsin governor who sought the Republican presidential nomination in 2016, pounced on the situation online.

“He’s been a jerk for a long time,” Mr. Walker said of Mr. Mellencamp in a post Tuesday on social media .

Mr. Walker linked to a social media post by the Citizen Free Press, a right-wing news aggregation website that had erroneously attributed the heckling and Mr. Mellencamp’s reaction to politics. The site later removed the post from X and acknowledged its mischaracterization.

“CORRECTION,” it wrote in a separate post on X . “The John Cougar Mellencamp video currently going viral has nothing to do with politics or Joe Biden.”

Representatives for Mr. Walker did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Thursday.

Even after the Citizen Free Press posted its correction, right-wing voices have not relented in criticizing Mr. Mellencamp on X, where his name continued to trend this week.

“Dude in the audience is right,” one commenter on X wrote on Tuesday before the correction, combining references to Mr. Mellencamp’s former stage name, John Cougar Mellencamp, and the MSNBC host Rachel Maddow. “They didn’t pay to hear John Cougar Maddow.”

Mr. Webber, the Blade reporter, said he shook his head over the level of misinformation online.

“It’s not like he was up there preaching about politics,” he said.

Mr. Webber said he would be surprised if Mr. Mellencamp had a significant following on the far right in the first place. “A right-wing person going to a John Mellencamp concert would be like a leftist going to see Ted Nugent,” he said.

He estimated that the concert was interrupted for about five minutes before Mr. Mellencamp returned to the stage. But the singer did not pick up where he left off.

“He never did ‘Jack & Diane,’” Mr. Webber said.
