Dates announced for England's first tour of Pakistan in 17 years
England pulled out of their Pakistan tour last year soon after New Zealand had abandoned their tour of the South Asian country over security concerns; watch all of England's tours of Pakistan live on Sky Sports
Tuesday 2 August 2022 11:25, UK
England will tour Pakistan in September for the first time in 17 years to play seven T20Is, with three Test matches to follow in December, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced on Tuesday.
England pulled out of their Pakistan tour last year soon after New Zealand had abandoned their tour of the South Asian country over security concerns.
Beginning on September 20, England will play seven Twenty20 matches in Karachi and Lahore in the first leg of their tour, all of which will be shown live on Sky Sports.

After the T20 World Cup in Australia, England will return to play three Tests in December, the PCB said in a statement.
"We demonstrated our event planning and operational skills in the highly successful series against Australia in March/April and I am confident we will be able to replicate these when England visit us for the first time since 2005," Zakir Khan, PCB director of international cricket, said.

🚨 Tour dates announced 🚨 We can’t wait for our men’s team to tour Pakistan for the first time in 17 years! 🏴🇵🇰 https://t.co/JZOIr7P0EP — England Cricket (@englandcricket) August 2, 2022
The tour represents England going back to the cricket-mad country for the first time since 2005, with security concerns preventing the ECB sending any squads to Pakistan in the ensuing years following the terrorist attack on the Sri Lanka team bus in Lahore back in 2009.
After Pakistan helped England get cricket back on in this country two summers ago following the coronavirus pandemic bringing the world to a halt months earlier, plans for a return to the South Asian country were put in place.

However, Pakistan have since played the Australia series on home soil, after a gap of 24 years, and also landed hosting rights for next year's Asia Cup and the 2025 Champions Trophy.
Rob Key, managing director of England men's cricket at the ECB, added: "We are looking forward to returning to Pakistan and playing these seven T20Is as the team builds up to the ICC Men's T20 World Cup.
"We have been liaising closely with the PCB over arrangements for this visit and the Tests later in the year, and will continue to work closely with the PCB, British High Commission and other relevant authorities as we continue to prepare for these tours."
After completing their T20 series in Pakistan, England will travel to Perth to begin a three-match series against World Cup hosts Australia, before they begin group stage campaign against Afghanistan on October 22.
The PCB said the dates for England's three Test matches in Pakistan would be announced in due course, along with later visits of New Zealand and the West Indies.
England's T20 matches in Pakistan will be their first since Jos Buttler's tenure as captain began with successive series defeats to India and South Africa.

Pakistan T20 squad: Haris Rauf, Hasan Ali back for England and Ireland tour
Babar Azam to lead 18-man squad which also includes injured wicketkeepers Azam Khan and Mohammad Rizwan.
Pakistan have recalled formerly out-of-favour injured fast bowler Haris Rauf and medium-pacer Hasan Ali for their Twenty20 series against Ireland and England later this month, their final warm-ups for the T20 World Cup, but have not announced their squad for the 20-team tournament in June.
Wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan, Azam Khan and Muhammad Irfan Khan, who all suffered injuries last month against New Zealand, were also included in an 18-man squad named on Thursday.

Pakistan’s selectors have not yet named their final 15-man squad for June’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in the United States and West Indies.
“We are having fitness issues with a few players but we hope that during the England tour, we will be able to finalise the World Cup squad,” selector Wahab Riaz told a news conference in Lahore.
All 20 World Cup teams had to submit preliminary 15-player squads to the International Cricket Council by the May 1 deadline, but they can make changes until May 25.

Rauf, wicketkeeper-batters Mohammad Rizwan and Azam Khan and middle-order batter Irfan Khan all are recovering from injuries and were included in the 18-member squad.
Rauf, 30, has been out of competitive cricket since dislocating his shoulder in February during the Pakistan Super League but has been bowling at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore, where he is undergoing rehabilitation.
Azam missed out on the because of a calf muscle injury he sustained on the eve of the first T20 at Rawalpindi. Rizwan and Irfan both were ruled out of the last two T20s against the Black Caps because of hamstring injuries they sustained during the third game.
“Rauf has started bowling and by the time we will be playing England he will be match fit,” said Riaz.
“As a back-up, we have included Hasan Ali in the squad.” Hasan has not played a Twenty20 international for Pakistan since September 2022.
Ali has taken 60 wickets in 50 T20s but has not played in the format for Pakistan since the Asia Cup in September 2022. He has been playing for Warwickshire in the English County Championship Division One and came under consideration after taking 14 wickets in the Pakistan Super League while representing Karachi Kings.
Usman Khan gets another chance after switching allegiance
The selectors have given another chance to top-order batter Usman Khan, who shifted his allegiance to Pakistan, his country of birth, resulting in a five-year ban from representing the Emirates Cricket Board. Usman scored only 59 runs in four matches against New Zealand with the top score of 31, and struggled to make an impact in the drawn series.
Spinning all-rounder Agha Salman, who has played Tests and one-day internationals, is in line for his T20 debut after being included.
Agha was recalled as an option in a spin department that also features Shadab Khan, Abrar Ahmed, Imad Wasim and Iftikhar Ahmed.
Leg-spinner Usama Mir and fast bowler Zaman Khan, who both featured in the series against the Black Caps, were cut.
“We understand Usama and Zaman will be disappointed,” Riaz said.
“They are quality cricketers and have long careers ahead of them. They need to continue to focus on their cricket so that they are available if required.”
Pakistan play Ireland in Dublin on May 10, 12 and 14.
Four matches follow against England at Headingley in Leeds on May 22, Edgbaston in Birmingham (May 25), Sophia Gardens in Cardiff (May 28) and the Oval in London (May 30).
Pakistan T20 squad for matches in Ireland and England: Babar Azam (captain), Abrar Ahmed, Azam Khan, Fakhar Zaman, Haris Rauf, Hasan Ali, Iftikhar Ahmed, Imad Wasim, Abbas Afridi, Mohammad Amir, Mohammad Rizwan, Irfan Khan, Naseem Shah, Saim Ayub, Salman Ali Agha, Shadab Khan, Shaheen Shah Afridi and Usman Khan.

England schedule for Pakistan Test tour in 2022 confirmed
- Published 22 August 2022
Ben Stokes took over the England Test team captaincy from Joe Root
England's schedule for three Test matches in Pakistan in December has been confirmed.
Captain Ben Stokes' side will play Tests in Rawalpindi, Multan and Karachi in the second part of England's first tour of the country since 2005.
England and Wales Cricket Board interim chief executive Clare Connor said it would be "an historic occasion".
The tour's first leg will see England's men play seven Twenty20s in Pakistan from 20 September to 2 October.
"The opportunity to play Test cricket in front of passionate cricket lovers in Pakistan after such a long time is something to be cherished," added Connor.
"We have been working closely with the PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board) over recent months and I am grateful to them for everything they have done, and continue to do, to make our Test and T20 tours a mouth-watering prospect for all involved."
England's men's and women's teams were withdrawn from playing white-ball games in Pakistan last year.
"We are pleased that Pakistan and England Test rivalry, which has historically produced close and tight matches, will return to our backyards in December," said PCB director of international cricket Zakir Khan.
"Both the sides have evolved since they last played in Pakistan in 2005 and have recently been playing entertaining and exciting cricket.
"I remain confident this series will live up to the expectations of the global cricket fans who want to watch and enjoy competitive and thrilling matches."
No international cricket was played in Pakistan for six years following an attack on the Sri Lanka team by gunmen in 2009, with Pakistan holding the majority of their home matches in the United Arab Emirates.
Touring teams began to return in 2015 and Pakistan hosted their first home men's Test for 12 years when Sri Lanka travelled in 2019.
Pakistan toured England in both 2020 and 2021, amid the coronavirus pandemic. In 2020 in particular, Pakistan agreed to strict bio-secure conditions in order to play in the UK.
England Test schedule in Pakistan
First Test - 1-5 December, Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, Rawalpindi
Second Test - 9-13 December, Multan Cricket Stadium, Multan
Third Test - 17-21 December, National Stadium, Karachi

Pakistan announce 18-member squad for Ireland and England tour, Haris Rauf recalled
Haris rauf, salman ali agha and hasan ali have been recalled to the t20i set-up. these three players were not a part of pakistan's recently concluded five-match home series against new zealand..
Pacer Zaman Khan and leg-spinner Usama Mir have been left out of the squad. Both players were a part of the series against New Zealand and their exclusion leaves a very slim possibility of them making it to Pakistan's squad for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024.
As per a press release issued by the Pakistan Cricket Board, Mohammad Rizwan, Azam Khan , Muhammad Irfan Khan and Haris Rauf underwent a medical assessment at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Lahore and the PCB medical panel and the team management have expressed satisfaction over their fitness.
Notably, Irfan, Rizwan and Azam had got injured during the course of the New Zealand series and were asked to report to the NCA. While Azam sustained a grade one tear in his right calf muscle, Rizwan and Irfan were sidelined due to niggles.
The Men's National Selection Committee feels that the 18-member squad covers all the bases and can produce bright results on the forthcoming tours. It also encouraged Usama and Zaman "to continue to focus on their cricket so that they are available, if required".

Rauf, Rizwan return for T20I series against Ireland and England
Pakistan will play three T20Is against Ireland and four against England in preparation for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024.
Pakistan’s Men’s National Selection Committee named the T20I squad during a press conference in Lahore for their tour of Ireland and England, starting 10 May with the three-match series against the Irish.
Haris Rauf is set for a return after missing the series against New Zealand after recovering from a shoulder injury suffered during the PSL. Hasan Ali also makes a comeback in the squad that will travel to Ireland and England for the T20I series.
Pakistan have retained much of the squad that played against the Black Caps with two players – Usama Mir and Zaman Khan – omitted from the squad. Salman Ali Agha, who was in the reserves in the recent home series, makes the cut for the 18-member travelling contingent.
Watch the best of the incredible Haris Rauf from the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2022.
Azam Khan was sidelined for the entire series against New Zealand due to discomfort in his right leg during the build-up, while wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan was forced out of the last two matches following a hamstring injury sustained in the third game.
Babar Azam will lead the side after being reinstated as white-ball captain ahead of the five-match T20I series at home against New Zealand, which ended in a 2-2 stalemate after the first game was washed out.
Pakistan squad: Babar Azam (captain), Abrar Ahmed, Azam Khan, Fakhar Zaman, Haris Rauf, Hasan Ali, Iftikhar Ahmed, Imad Wasim, Mohammad Abbas Afridi, Mohammad Amir, Mohammad Rizwan, Muhammad Irfan Khan, Naseem Shah, Saim Ayub, Salman Ali Agha, Shadab Khan, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Usman Khan.
View this post on Instagram A post shared by Pakistan Cricket (@therealpcb)
Speaking on the squad, the selection committee said: “Crafting this squad was a challenging task due to the outstanding talent available. After thorough deliberation and considering various cricketing aspects, we have finalised these 18 players.
“The squad encompasses a robust top-order featuring Babar Azam, Fakhar Zaman, Mohammad Rizwan, Saim Ayub, and Usman Khan; an effective middle-order with Azam Khan, Iftikhar Ahmed and Muhammad Irfan Khan; versatile all-rounders in Imad Wasim, Shadab Khan and Salman Ali Agha; a pace battery led by Mohammad Abbas Afridi, Mohammad Amir, Naseem Shah, Haris Rauf, Hasan Ali and Shaheen Shah Afridi; and the spin prowess of Abrar Ahmed.
“We understand Usama and Zaman will be disappointed and they should be as they must be looking ahead to the tours of Ireland and England. They are quality cricketers and have long careers ahead of them. They need to continue to focus on their cricket so that they are available, if required.”

Jofra Archer confirmed in squad to boost England’s T20 World Cup defence
- Bowler has recovered from long-standing elbow issue
- Spinner Hartley selected over Ahmed in initial 15-man squad
Jofra Archer has been cleared to play in England’s T20 World Cup defence after recovering from the elbow injury that has dogged him for more than four years. The 29-year-old has been named in the 15-man squad that will play four games against Pakistan next month and serves as the provisional selection for the tournament that starts on 1 June in the West Indies and the United States.
Despite being an established first-team player Archer has appeared in only 14 of England’s 65 T20s over the last four years, after first being diagnosed with a stress fracture of his right elbow in January 2020. He has played only three international T20s in three years, all during last year’s tour of Bangladesh, bowling just 11 overs, and has not played a competitive game of any kind since last May.
after newsletter promotion
Archer’s return will be a massive boost for England’s chances of defending the title they won in Australia in 2022. He is joined in the squad by Chris Jordan, who has drifted to the periphery of the team since his death bowling was remorselessly and decisively punished by New Zealand in the 2021 T20 World Cup semi-final: at that point he had played in every one of England’s previous 39 games in the format, but of the 39 they have played since he has appeared in only 17.
Tom Hartley, the Lancashire spinner who made his Test debut in India in January but has yet to play for England in the shortest format, has been preferred to Rehan Ahmed and along with Will Jacks is one of only two players in the squad who has not previously played in either the T20 or ODI World Cup. England can make unlimited changes to their squad until 25 May, the deadline for submitting a final selection.
Jacks is one of several England players currently involved in the Indian Premier League, all of whom will have to leave the tournament before the play-offs. They start on 21 May, the day before the first game against Pakistan at Headingley. That series ends at the Oval on 30 May and the squad will fly to the Caribbean the following day, ahead of their opening fixture against Scotland in Barbados on 4 June.
England provisional squad for the Men’s T20 World Cup & IT20 series v Pakistan: Jos Buttler (Lancashire, capt), Moeen Ali (Warwickshire), Jofra Archer (Sussex), Jonathan Bairstow (Yorkshire), Harry Brook (Yorkshire), Sam Curran (Surrey), Ben Duckett (Nottinghamshire), Tom Hartley (Lancashire), Will Jacks (Surrey), Chris Jordan (Surrey), Liam Livingstone (Lancashire), Adil Rashid (Yorkshire), Phil Salt (Lancashire), Reece Topley (Surrey), Mark Wood (Durham).
