* Commercial transport is for dogs being imported to Canada for purposes of sale or resale, adoption, breeding, show or exhibition, training or scientific research. If you are bringing a dog into Canada on behalf of an animal welfare organization, then customs officials will consider the import commercial. Rescue dogs destined for adoption are also considered commercial for import purposes. There will be additional requirements that will be included.

It is our objective to prepare the traveling pet owner for all entry requirements that may arise as a result of traveling by air, sea or ground. Enforcement may not be consistent in every country or on every airline, and having proper documentation will better ensure that no problems will arise during your travels.

If you purchase our instructions and forms prior to 30 days before you travel, please check back with us to make sure there have been no changes in the rules or forms required to take your pet to Canada. All updated instructions and forms are provided by email free of charge.

We cannot offer refunds on pet passport packages unless there is a problem with the information or forms provided.

This month, we’re thrilled to feature Maddie Noon, who entrusted us to relocate her beloved dogs, Tommy and Tilly, from Canada to the United Kingdom. Tommy, originally from New Zealand, and Tilly, who joined the family during their Canadian adventure, share a strong friendship born from their outdoor exploration.

Eager to ease her mind, our team kept Maddy updated with pictures of her tiny treasures. Travel documents for your pets

Before you leave Canada, contact the embassy of your destination country about its requirements for importing animals.

The Canadian International Health Certificate may be used to accompany pet dogs and cats to other countries. This certificate must be printed on legal paper (8.5" X 14"). No other format will be accepted.

If your destination country accepts this document, have it completed by a veterinarian in Canada and endorsed by an official government veterinarian. There is a fee for this service.

You do not need a Canadian International Health Certificate if you are travelling to countries providing their own health certificates or to countries or zones that have negotiated specific veterinary health certificates with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA).

Travelling with exotic pets

Do you travel with an exotic pet? Examples of exotic pets include parrots, many lizards, many turtles, hybrid cats, some fish and some snakes. If you are travelling between countries, your exotic pet may require a CITES permit.

The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) was established to prevent over-exploitation of wildlife species through international trade and illegal poaching. Imports and exports of species listed under CITES are controlled through a permit system.  If you are travelling with a CITES-listed exotic pet, you will require a permit. It is illegal to bring a CITES-listed animal across Canadian and many international borders without the appropriate CITES permit.

Pet passports, also known as Certificates of Ownership, are available from Environment Canada for people who travel frequently outside of Canada with their CITES-listed exotic pet. If you are a resident of Canada and intend to take your pet temporarily and frequently out of Canada strictly for personal purposes, you can apply for a CITES Certificate of Ownership . This “pet passport” is valid for 3 years, authorizes multiple exports and re-imports, and is recognized by certain countries (e.g., USA).

What I really appreciate about pets are people too is that they actually have knowledgeable and caring staff! I have been really frustrated with nutrition options for my cat and the owner, vera, went out of her way to help me make some great decisions. I love the premium cat treats, the raw diet, and when I was younger I absolutely loved the fish section. I used to have a lot of aquariums and it was such a joy to the shop that. I always feel so special when I support this business because I know my local dollars actually matter. My cat has never been better since she started the raw diet. I have vera to thank for that.

This is our primary pet supply store when we are located in the Palouse. They have good advice at both this location and the Pullman store, a good variety of raw dog foods and limited ingredient diets, and everything I've ever wanted for miscellaneous dog supplies. I've gotten fish at the Pullman store too, all healthy and with very long life spans, and most of my aquarium supplies are from these stores. I am a HUGE fan of the new (?) online ordering and curbside pickup - the online ordering system is really nice and intuitive, and orders have been ready within about ten minutes so far. I'm not sure whether this service started for COVID response but it sure made it an easy choice to continue shopping here while we look out for our health!

I've been going here for over a year, never had an issue. They did my pet tags exactly as I asked and they told me about the 'buy 10 get 1 free' promotions some brands have. They have a good selection of healthy dog foods, some expensive some not. Be careful if you're buying dog/cat beds though, I pulled one out to find their cute little shop cat was fast asleep in it.

I really do not like this store. The owners Jim and Vera are just out for every dollar they can get. Due to my lack of knowledge I purchased 4 snakes from this pet store. ALL of them had mites, extremely bad. When I tried to address this with them just brushed it off as something normal & not their problem. When I was a teenager - 14? They sold me a tortoise and lied out their teeth about the care, needs, and expectations of the animal. The food they recommended was ALL WRONG, the tortoise greatly out grew the 8 inches they said she would reach (she is now 10ish lbs and as tall as some of my dogs!). They also sell puppies they claim that come from local breeders but hesitate to prove this. instead of working with the Humane Society to help homeless dogs find homes they sell even mix breed puppies for outrageous amounts of money ($300 or more for a mutt). Support a pet shop that cares about the animals they sell and the products they stock. Make the short drive to Pullman and go to Barnacle Bills! I started shopping here because they were the only store in town where I could find my preferred pet food brand, Natural Balance. Initially I didn't care much for the shop, but in recent years they have really revamped their customer service! Their staff is now much friendlier. My only complaint is that they carry and promote a variety of tiny, half-gallon housing for Betta fish. A single Betta fish needs at least 3 gallons (or more) to themselves to stay healthy and happy. I expect those types of products in big chain stores where employee ignorance regarding fish care might be expected, but not a local pet shop with such a vast variety of fish.

Over my most recent several visits to the store, customer service seems to have improved and there are a few new people who've been hired on who are friendly and helpful. Glad to see the owner actually put in the time to make sure his workers are helpful and not rude! As said previously, this shop does have a decent selection of foods and pet care products, and they have more variation than the typical big box stores do.

Repeatedly give out bad information (thank goodness I always double check with reliable sources) and constantly have attitudes that aren't customer friendly... I have noticed they've been better since the local Petco opened and started giving them some competition, though. If anything, they do have a good selection of pet foods and supplies, and I should note that not every worker there has a sour attitude.

Normally I like to support locally owned businesses but the prices at this store are outrageous! Everything I looked to buy (kitty litter, dog food, greenies) was at least twice the price it should have been. Save your money and buy online. Even with shipping you'll still save over buying from this store. I wasn't really impressed either by the cleanliness or organization of the store and it looks like it could really use an interior and exterior facelift.

I bought my parrot friend Yoshi here a year ago. They were helpful and friendly, especially the guy who seemed to be in charge of the birds. I've had his nails clipped twice there. Now I do it myself. It's the only decent pet shop I know of in the area. Selection/price is ok, not fantastic, but it's a small business, so what can you do.

This is one of the only pet stores in the Pullman/Moscow area that have a lot to offer. I know there were 2 negative reviews a year or so ago so maybe things have changed since then, but I was quite pleased with the place. Like I said, lots of products there that you can't get at Walmart or a grocery store and the prices didn't seem terribly outrageous to me, in fact I got a little kitten leash for like 4 bucks so that didn't seem too bad. I will go here again and amend my review if necessary, but so far so good!

For flights between the US and Canada and the US and Mexico, one free checked bag is provided only for Flex and Comfort fares. Outside these fares, a $35 fee is applicable for the first checked bag, and $50 for the second.

Those on Latitude fares can bring along two checked bags, no matter the route. Similarly, Star Alliance Gold members can enjoy one free checked bag, regardless of the fare purchased. From the third bag onwards, passengers can expect to pay between $100 and $225 per item, depending on the route.

To avoid surprises at the airport, you can opt to prepay for baggage online or via the mobile app from 24 hours to 45 minutes (domestic Canada flights) or 60 minutes (all other flights) from the scheduled departure.

Special items and oversized baggage

In addition to standard checked baggage, Air Canada accommodates special items such as oversized baggage and sports and hunting equipment. However, transporting these items may incur additional fees or require advance arrangements. Passengers should familiarize themselves with Air Canada's policies regarding special items to ensure a hassle-free travel experience.

Fees vary depending on the type of equipment: for example, a $50 fee per flight is applicable for bicycles, while surfboards, paddleboards, and wave skis will incur a $100 fee.

Like with sports equipment, passengers will need to register their hunting equipment no less than 24 hours before the flight and arrive at least 30 minutes prior to the usual check-in time. Antlers and horns are $150 to check in, while firearms are $50 per segment of the flight. For specific packing requirements for special items, you are advised to refer to the Air Canada website .

Traveling with pets in the baggage compartment

As for the other type of precious cargo – pets – Air Canada accepts dogs and cats in the baggage compartment. For travel within Canada or between Canada and the US, a $105 one-way fee is applicable, while all other itineraries will cost $270.

The animal must be kept in a carrier that is no larger than 115 inches (292 cm) in linear dimensions, with a maximum weight of 100 lbs (45 kg) for both the pet and kennel combined.

• The cat or dog must be at least 10 weeks old and fully weaned.
• A maximum of two pets (of the same species) can be allowed in the same kennel.

A total solar eclipse  crossed North America Monday with parts of 15 U.S. states within the path of totality. Maps show  where and when astronomy fans could see the big event  as skies darkened in the middle of the day Monday, April 8.

The total eclipse first appeared along Mexico's Pacific Coast at around 11:07 a.m. PDT, then traveled across a swath of the U.S., from Texas to Maine, and into Canada.

About 31.6 million people live in the path of totality , the area where the moon fully blocked out the sun , according to NASA. The path ranged between 108 and 122 miles wide. An additional 150 million people live within 200 miles of the path of totality.

The total solar eclipse started over the Pacific Ocean, and the first location in continental North America that experienced totality was Mexico's Pacific Coast, around 11:07 a.m. PDT, according to NASA. From there, the path continued into Texas, crossing more than a dozen states before the eclipse enters Canada in southern Ontario. The eclipse exited continental North America at around 5:16 p.m. NDT from Newfoundland, Canada.

The path of totality included portions of the following states:

• Pennsylvania
• New Hampshire

Small parts of Tennessee and Michigan also experienced the total solar eclipse.

Several major cities across the U.S. were included in the eclipse's path of totality, while many others saw a partial eclipse. These were some of the best major cities for eclipse viewing — though the weather was a factor :

• San Antonio, Texas (partially under the path)
• Austin, Texas
• Waco, Texas
• Dallas, Texas
• Little Rock, Arkansas
• Indianapolis, Indiana

The eclipse began in the U.S. as a partial eclipse beginning at 12:06 p.m. CDT near Eagle Pass, Texas, before progressing to totality by about 1:27 p.m. CDT and then moving along its path to the northeast over the following few hours.

NASA shared times for several cities in the path of totality across the U.S. People could have also  checked their ZIP code on NASA's map  to see when the eclipse was to reach them if they were on, or near, the path of totality — or if they saw a partial eclipse instead.

How much of the eclipse did people see if they live outside the totality path?

While the April 8 eclipse covered a wide swath of the U.S., outside the path of totality observers may have spotted a partial eclipse, where the moon covers some, but not all, of the sun, according to NASA. The closer they were to the path of totality, the larger the portion of the sun that was hidden.

NASA allowed viewers to input a ZIP code and see how much of the sun was to be covered in their locations.

Could there be cloud cover be during the solar eclipse?

Some areas along the path of totality had a higher likelihood of cloud cover that could interfere with viewing the eclipse. Here is a map showing the historical trends in cloud cover this time of year.

Where did the solar eclipse reach totality for the longest?

Eclipse viewers near Torreón, Mexico, got to experience totality for the longest. Totality there lasted 4 minutes, 28 seconds, according to NASA. 

Most places along the centerline of the path of totality saw a totality duration of between 3.5 and 4 minutes, according to NASA. Some places in the U.S. came close to the maximum; Kerrville, Texas, had a totality duration of 4 minutes, 24 seconds.

What is the path of totality for the 2044 solar eclipse?

The next total solar eclipse that will be visible from the contiguous U.S. will be on Aug. 23, 2044.

Astronomy fans in the U.S. will have far fewer opportunities to see the 2044 eclipse they had on April 8. NASA has not yet made maps available for the 2044 eclipse but, according to The Planetary Society , the path of totality will only touch three states.

The 2024 eclipse will start in Greenland, pass over Canada and end as the sun sets in Montana, North Dakota and South Dakota, according to the Planetary Society.
