2024 Players Championship TV schedule, live stream, coverage, channel, watch online, golf tee times

How to watch every memorable moment of the 2024 players championship on tv or streaming live online.

players-flag-removed-2022-getty.png

Business picked up on the PGA Tour this week with the league's best players battling it out at TPC Sawgrass for the 2024 Players Championship. Following a signature event that put the PGA Tour back on track after a slow start to the season, its most notable hosted tournament enters the weekend just a month before major season begins with the 2024 Masters.

Scottie Scheffler, who won last week at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and stands as the reigning Players champion, appropriately entered in the favorite, and while he's been battling through a  nagging neck injury , somehow remains in contention as one of six players most likely to upend 54-hole leader Xander Schauffele.

Schauffele is seeking the most significant victory of his young career (as well as his first victory in two years). The 30-year-old has been in numerous close-but-no-cigar situations at major championships over the last few years, and beyond the $4.5 million winner's share from the $25 million purse , he has an opportunity to stick his flag in the ground as a legitimate contender on the PGA Tour.

Wyndham Clark, the 54-hole leader and reigning U.S. Open champion, sits one back of Schauffele after an up-and-down third round. He remains the most likely to surpass Schauffele, but it will likely require quite an effort Sunday as the final pairing should battle down the stretch.

Follow live Players Championship leaderboard coverage throughout Sunday's final round  at TPC Sawgrass.

Other than Jon Rahm and 2022 champion Cameron Smith, who both defected from the league, most notably missing from the field this week is Tiger Woods. It came as a bit of a surprise when Woods did not commit to The Players, particularly given its the final year for which he is automatically eligible. Tiger claimed he wanted to play once a month in 2024, and after withdrawing from the Genesis Invitational for what was described as an illness (not an injury-related reason), it was thought he would suit up in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. Instead, it looks like Woods may play just 1.5 competitive rounds this year before traveling to Augusta National for the Masters.

While attending The Players is a dream for many, simply being able to watch the event live from home or the office is an incredible treat each year, and we here at CBS Sports are thrilled to bring you wall-to-wall coverage Sunday.

Enough talking about it. Below is how you can watch as much of the 2024 Players Championship as possible.

Scottie Scheffler

Already the best in the world, Scottie Scheffler added another layer to his legend Sunday. He became the first player to win back-to-back in 50 years of THE PLAYERS Championship by matching the biggest comeback and the lowest closing round by a winner.

Scheffler holed out for eagle from the fourth fairway and had four birdies in a five-hole stretch around the turn, sending him to an 8-under 64 and a one-shot victory that wasn’t decided until the final putt.

Pga tour to live stream every shot from the players championship.

The PGA Tour is expanding its live video coverage of The Players Championship as far as it can go – every shot by every player in every round.

In a first for golf, and most likely the first step toward video access to every player at every tournament, The Players Championship will offer live streaming of all 144 players in the field.

Coverage will be available to PGA Tour Live subscribers on NBC Sports Gold or Amazon’s Prime Video channels.

''Our vision is to bring every shot in every PGA Tour golf tournament live and on-demand to our fans,’' said Rick Anderson, the chief media officer for the PGA Tour. ''And this is the first step to making that happen.’'

The ambitious production will require about 120 cameras – some stationary, some hand-held and others part of the NBC Sports Group broadcast – to show shots that for the opening two rounds start about 7:40 a.m. and end some 12 hours later.

Augusta National had video coverage of every shot from every player at the Masters this year, though it was available through a catalog of players chosen off its website. The difference at The Players is that every shot will be accessible live.

It’s up to the subscribers to choose whom they want to see.

PGA Tour Live for the last few years has had featured groups in the morning and afternoon that have live streaming, often the biggest names in the field that have consecutive tee times to make it easy for cameras to get to them.

That was expanded this season, with all domestic events in the fall having featured pairings for live streaming.

Now it’s every player, even those who might not be seen at all during a tournament.

''You’ll be able to click on any group and watch that group play, and we do that for every golfer in the field,’' said Luis Goicouria, the Tour’s senior vice president of media. ''We’re not viewing it from the perspective of who wants to watch a certain golfer. We’ve known for many years that the future of our sport absolutely involves taking all the content that is happening live and making that available to our audience. In golf, that’s a huge amount of content.’'

The Tour is using its showcase event for the debut of its latest technology, which is not unusual. It’s where the Tour first tried ''Live at 17'’ by showing every shot from every player on the notorious island-green par-3 17th hole.

The announcement Monday comes as the PGA Tour already is talking to media companies about a new television deal. The current arrangement ends after 2021, and consumption habits are changing rapidly.

The Masters has the smallest broadcast window of the four majors and The Players – 18 hours over four days – and it has widened the digital coverage with live video channels from Amen Corner, the 15th and 16th holes, and a featured group, but still not the entire round. Augusta National prefers limited coverage.

The PGA Tour is all about wall-to-wall coverage, and its global distribution now includes a 10-year deal last year with Discovery and its GOLFTV arm.

''Those platforms are becoming more sophistical, more ubiquitous and more content hungry,’' Goicouria said. ''Live sports of any kind is extremely valuable to media companies. ... If we create and get all the content out there, it will find an audience. And there’s any number of ways to leverage this content.’'

Anderson said it could take as many as five years before the Tour can develop a system where live streaming of every player in the field is available and every tournament, though it was not clear if that included the three events it has in Asia.

The starting point is The Players Championship, which is March 12-15.

''We’re doing it to showcase a really major advancement at our flagship event,’' Anderson said. ''The idea is absolutely to get to a point where it makes economic sense. That’s still some time period away. We wanted to demonstrate it at The Players that we can do that. As it becomes more efficient and the costs come down, it’s something we can do every week eventually.’'

Live From THE PLAYERS Championship: PGA TOUR Lays Out Vision for New Media Facility

Opening in 2025, massive pga tour studios will have seven studios, eight control rooms.

By Ken Kerschbaumer Thursday, March 14, 2024 - 9:20 am Print This Story | Subscribe

Story Highlights

With THE PLAYERS Championship at TPC Sawgrass attracting PGA TOUR partners, media, and fans to one of golf’s legendary courses, it made perfect sense for PGA TOUR Media this week to give tours of PGA TOUR Studios, a 165,000-sq.-ft. media facility located next door to the course. Still under construction, the state-of-the-art facility is far enough along to give members of the media and the industry a sense of what it will be when the doors open in January.

The new facility will house PGA TOUR media operations not only for PGA TOUR Live but also for PGA TOUR Champions Tour and Korn Ferry Tour, both of which will be produced remotely from the facility next year. Social media, digital operations, and international media will also be occupy space in the building. The first two floors will comprise live production space and the studios and control rooms; the third floor will house the content team. According to Luis Goicouria, SVP, media, PGA TOUR , the plan is to start testing the facility this summer and, ideally, move in around October and put the facility through its paces with parallel operations.

pga tour live players championship

PGA TOUR’s Greg Hopfe (left) and Andrew Wisniewski gave a tour of the new PGA TOUR Studios facility, which is expected to open in time for the 2025 PGA season.

“ We’ll spend the fourth quarter testing everything,” Goicouria explains. “We have some fall tournaments that will allow us to have parallel work streams: we’ll still be doing everything from the miniature TV compound that we built in the parking lot of the St. Augustine facility. At the same time, we’ll also be doing it from here just to make sure that everything’s working so that, in January, we can hit the ground running when we light everything up.”

The new home will be nearly five times larger than the current PGA TOUR facility in St. Augustine, FL. It will have seven studios at launch (future growth allows for 12) and eight control rooms (with space for 13) spread over the first two floors, along with eight audio-control rooms, four finishing suites, four audio-post rooms, eight edit suites, eight voiceover rooms, and six graphics rooms. It is located next door to the 185,000-sq.-ft. PGA TOUR Global Home. The exterior for both buildings was the vision of Foster+Partners, and HLW International implemented the production facilities inside.

“A lot of the third floor is going to be head room for postproduction as well as our media-asset–management team,” says Mike Raimondo, VP, broadcast technology, PGA TOUR . “We also wanted to have between 20% and 25% of unallocated space for growth so there are two large rooms — one on the first floor and one on the third floor — that are massive.”

A key design philosophy was to make all the production-control rooms equally capable from a firepower standpoint even if some may be larger physically. “Essentially, the equipment that sits in the smallest PCR [will be] the same as in the biggest PCR,” notes Goicouria. “That is very intentional: every single production that we do will be equal in terms of quality. Four of the studios and control rooms are going to be used for four ESPN feeds, and one studio will be dedicated to the Korn Ferry Tour, one to the Champions Tour, and the last one for anything else that might come up, like an original show or something else.”

Having the same amount of firepower across all the rooms means that, if Greg Hopfe, SVP/executive producer, PGA TOUR , and the team come up with a new programming idea, the equipment is in place to do a proper proof of concept. “We won’t need to spend money to make a room or rent new technology; we can just do it,” explains PGA TOUR, VP, Engineering, Andrew Wisniewski . “The audio rooms, with Dolby Atmos, are a perfect example of that. Currently, our shows are produced in stereo, but, from day one, some of the audio rooms [in the new facility] can do Atmos. Our goal is to be an end-to-end production facility that can support any format for our teams and external clients.”

There will be one central equipment room with around 120 racks of equipment installed, again with room to add 40 more if needed. Goicouria notes that PGA TOUR has worked very closely with AWS on cloud computing and that the original plans called for a larger equipment room.

“Working with AWS on the cloud-computing side, we’ve essentially eliminated almost every server for the building as we do everything in the cloud now,” he explains. “AWS has been huge and will have some branding in the building because of our official marketing partnership. But they have been a key technology partner for us with respect to how we visualize the technology in the building, particularly on the cloud-computing side.”

That extends to media-asset management. The PGA has about 20 PB of archives in the AWS cloud. “This is really a content factory,” notes Goicouria.

“NEP is another hugely important technology partner,” he adds. “They’ve done our truck fleet and are also helping us in terms of what equipment we need in this building, how to put it together, how that equipment talks to each other. With every production room in this building interconnected, every studio can connect to every production-control room, every audio room can connect to every control room.”

The whole facility is going to be SMPTE ST 2110–native from the beginning, and Hopfe expects the flexibility of the space and the use of IP to unlock new production efficiencies for PGA TOUR golf: “Back in the day, switching monitor walls between CBS and NBC, for example, took a lot of patching and work to get it to the way the producers wanted. But, because this is all-IP, that can be done with the flip of a switch. And that means it’s possible, if the airtimes are right, to do a Korn Ferry event in a control room and then flip the switch at 5:00 p.m. and do something else.”

One of the highlights at opening will be studios that rely heavily on LED walls and, in the case of the largest studio, even an LED floor. “The plan is to do something very, very unique,” says Wisniewski. “It’s going to be predominantly LED walls, an LED floor, a hard set, but a focus on graphics and extended sets that elevate the fun and experience to a whole new level. Greg [Hopfe] and David Piccolo, SVP Executive Creative Director , have been instrumental in bringing this vision to life.”

Planning began in 2017, and the project was greenlighted prior to the COVID pandemic. So getting to this point has been a battle against everything from inflation to worker shortages to supply-chain issues. “Everything you can imagine has been thrown at us while we’ve been building this building,” says Goicouria. “But the commitment from our board and from our executive team has been there every step of the way to get it done. And we’re almost there.”

The Korn Ferry Tour’s domestic season kicks off in Savannah, Georgia, for the seventh playing of the Club Car Championship at The Landings Golf & Athletic Club. All four rounds of competition will air live on Golf Channel. Here’s what you need to know about the event and how to follow the action:

1. Strong Georgia roots

Fifteen players in the field played collegiately in the state of Georgia: nine from Georgia Tech (Shunyat Hak, Paul Haley II, Connor Howe, Chris Petefish, Seth Reeves, Ollie Schniederjans, Ross Steelman, Richy Werenski), four from University of Georgia (Erik Compton, Joey Garber, Trent Phillips, Spencer Ralston) and three from Georgia Southern (Ben Carr, Steven Fisk, Mason Williams). Additional players with local and regional ties to the area include Dawson Armstrong (born in Valdosta, Georgia), Emilio Gonzalez (a resident of St. Simons Island, Georgia), Billy Kennerly (plays from Alpharetta, Georgia) among others. Columbus, Georgia, native Ben Carr will also make his Korn Ferry Tour debut as a sponsor exemption this week.

2. The season-long race heats up

Mason Andersen sits atop the Korn Ferry Tour Points List through the first six events of the season after logging three top-10 finishes, highlighted by his first career title at last month’s 117 Visa Argentina Open presented by Macro. With the win in Argentina, Andersen earned an exemption for The Open Championship 2024 at Royal Troon. The top 30 finishers on the Points List at the conclusion of the Korn Ferry Tour Championship earn PGA TOUR cards for the 2025 season. Five players who finished T8 or better in this event last year went on to earn PGA TOUR cards at season’s end: David Skinns (Winner), Tom Whitney (T2), Max Greyserman (T6), Jacob Bridgeman (T6) and Nicholas Lindheim (T8).

3. Young talent continues to rise

All six players to win an event this season are first-time winners on the Korn Ferry Tour (Jeremy Paul, Aldrich Potgieter, Isaiah Salinda, Kevin Velo, Mason Andersen and Taylor Dickson). South African Potgieter, the youngest Korn Ferry Tour member this season, won The Bahamas Great Abaco Classic at The Abaco Club in January and became the youngest winner on either the Korn Ferry Tour or PGA TOUR since 1931 (19 years, 4 months and 11 days). Two weeks later at the Astara Golf Championship presented by Mastercard, Potgieter recorded a second-round 11-under 59 to become the youngest player to record a sub-60 round in a PGA TOUR-sanctioned event.

4. An indicator of future success?

Many past champions of the Club Car Championship have gone on to have success on the PGA TOUR. Reigning champion Skinns has posted two top-10 finishes on the PGA TOUR in 2024, including a T7 finish at last week’s Texas Children’s Houston Open. Sam Burns, who won the inaugural playing in 2018 as a rookie, earned his first PGA TOUR card in 2018 and has notched five PGA TOUR titles and 32 top-10 finishes in 141 starts. Adam Svensson won the 2021 Club Car Championship and currently has one PGA TOUR victory at The RSM Classic 2022.
