Care to comment on Princess Players Club VIP cruise?

Cool Cruiser

We have reservations on 14 Aug 2018, Grand Princess to Alaska Inside Passage as a Players Club VIP. Has anyone been designated previous VIP sailings that began Dec 2017? VIP amenities included $ for casino play, comp beverages in the casino, special in-stateroom amenities etc. How was your cruise as a Players Club VIP?

One thing to be aware of....The casinos can become extremely crowded on these sailings. Sometimes it is impossible to get on a machine or find a seat at a table. This took away some of the enjoyment for us....

You are absolutely correct. I have been part of a few of the VIP cruises before. The casino is packed and the free drinks are super-hard to come by.

As per the flyer we received in the mail, we got a discounted cabin and some casino cash. Every day we got a new gift in the cabin. I don't remember all of them, but I do remember getting a tin of chocolates, a Princess Casino beach towel, chocolate covered strawberries, and ??? There are special VIP-only tournaments and drawings throughout the cruise. There was supposed to be priority boarding (I think) but we do lots of B2B cruises so have always been onboard already so I don't know how that worked. Drinks are free in the casino while you're playing and wearing your VIP badge. Again, hard to come by because there are so many VIPs wanting drinks.

I've done my time in crowded VIP casinos and have just gotten a bit tired of it. I won't be booking anymore. But if you haven't done one before, I'd say go for it.

azbirdmom

We're on the same cruise for the same reason. This will be our third casino VIP cruise. They are fun but I agree with the comments about the casino being crowded and it can also take quite a while to get drinks. Hopefully with all of the different VIP cruises available this year, there won't be the crowds that we've experienced on past VIP cruises.

Alabaster Cruiser

Alabaster Cruiser

We have never had trouble getting drinks on VIP cruises. We usually tip 1 to 2 dollars each round. We have waiters that follow us to the table when we walk in.

Mahalo for all the comments. Looking forward to this cruise, mostly for seeing Alaska again and Sitka for the first time. Casino will be fun seeing it busy. I was on the Emerald going down the west side of South America last December and was sometimes the only 1 of 2 at the craps table. h

BOOFER9

We are on a casino cruise march 20 (Royal) ; what is the vip boarding?
I'm curious. How do you become member of the Players Club and are offered free cruises? Do you get an invitation from the casino manager? How do you qualify? How much you gamble or how long you gamble? Are we talking about gambling thousands of dollars? Does anyone care to share what's involved? Or is it random?

caribill

It means if you check in before boarding has started that you will be assigned to one of the first groups to board the ship.

If you check in after boarding has started it will usually not mean much as after about the first 30 minutes of boarding everyone who checks in can then go directly to the ship.

Just like Keikidoc, We always tip $1 to $2 per FREE drink and the waiters are constantly asking Us what we would like to drink. Many times, they will just show up with a fresh drink for me when they see I am getting low and I still tip. The service has always been excellent during crowded VIP cruises for us. Half way through the cruise, I always hand my favorite waiter a $20 for his/her excellent service. These people work so hard and I feel they always enhance our casino/vacation experience. If you are in the casino blowing through money, you can’t possibly think a $1 or $2 is a lot for a drink. I promise you, it will get you excellent service and it will be appreciated by the hard working waiter. Throw them a $20 and that will take your service to another level. Last cruise, while the ship was in port and casino was closed, my husband and I were out by the pool eating a burger and our normal casino waiter was working by the pool, he quickly came over to check on us and to get us a drink. He was so amazing and his extra effort was outstanding. To us, it was worth the $30 to $40 we would of just lost at a Blackjack table.

Make sure you insert your key card in the slot machine or provide it for a table game as you sit down.

Gamble only as much as you are comfortable, and by the last afternoon/evening of your cruise you MAY find a personal offer in your mail box outside your cabin. If you don't receive one, then you may still get offers for discounted cruises via email or regular mail to your residence.

It's not a random process but rather based upon your play in the casino which is tracked when you insert your card in the machine or present it at a table.

I don't play slots but do present my keycard every time I sit at a table or play craps. I set a max amount to "lose" as entertainment $ each night...generally not more than $200, also a max for the cruise. When I lose my "allotment" I'm off to bed with a book. (and that, sometimes, will be 30 mins.:( If I win, it is playing with casino $ and stay longer and dealers get more tip$. :D

I've gotten a letter from the casino host the 2nd to the last night with an invitation to book another cruise in 30 days and receive anywhere form $125 -$200 in casino cash. I don't get a invite on every cruise even though I've contributed about the same amount of $ to the casino. I certainly don't spend thousands of $. Once a year I get a flyer in the mail about VIP casino cruise available for discount staterooms and casino cash. This last one offered $125 casino cash, comp drinks while playing in the casino, chance to win some tech gadget prizes, etc. I think it helps to get to know the dealers, pit bosses and casino host.

I sailed 6 cruises with Princess, gambled quite a bit of $$ on all these cruises, and aside from a specialty dinner or rare spa comp never got a cruise comp because I don't believe Princess was offering them or not to me anyway previous to and when I last said with them in 2012. So after getting an NCL comp from a local casino I did my next 6 cruises with them which all were comped by NCL's Casinos at Sea. After all this time away from Princess I recently got a VIP Princess Players Club balcony cruise comp offer which I took advantage of and booked a 10 day southern Caribbean cruise on the Caribbean Princess for 10/18 since I always enjoyed cruising with Princess.

Not sure why after all these years Princess reached out with a cruise comp. They must have figured that this lady who had a 2 cruise a year history and fairly heavily donated to their casinos over a number of years must be sailing with another line that is comping her cruises. Looking forward to this cruise and we will see how it goes, but I must admit it will take more than a balcony cabin comp to lure me away from NCL because my last cruise comp from them was a 10 day Italy coast cruise in a Haven spa cabin on the Epic with unlimited beverage, unlimited specialty dining, paid gratuities, and $400 OBC. This was truly a cruise of a lifetime, and the icing on the cake was winning a $7,500 jackpot the 1st night of the cruise on the 3rd $3 spin on a penny progressive machine.

What do you do to become and receive a VIP Player Card? Thanks, Debbie (mimilove)

It all depends on your amount of play while in the casino. It’s all recorded when you give them your cruise card at the table or by inserting it in the slot machine.

Thanks to all for your enlightening explanations. I've been cruising with Princess since 2004 and although I do visit the casino I'm a frugal gambler so my chances are nil, I guess. Wishing you all good luck.

We've been on 6 VIP casino cruises with Princess and all of them have been fun. A welcome aboard party with snacks and drinks after sail away is always fun. The free drinks in the casino throughout the cruise and a free slot tournament as well as drawings every night help make the VIP experience enjoyable. We're not big spenders and still don't know why we get the offers, but take them if it fits our schedule.

The big one is in November called the Ultimate VIP casino cruise by invitation only. Our names won't be on that list!

We'll be sailing to Alaska with both of you! This will be our first VIP cruise. We get a lot of "come back & play" offers that are sometimes for a free room, sometimes casino cash, sometimes both. Looking forward to this sailing as we love Alaska! :)

Going on a VIP Cruise Saturday. My casino cash offer said my card would be loaded with the casino cash and you could not cash out till that much was spent. Anyone have experience in how that works? I have always been handed cash. Thanks.

Yes, they've changed how it works. It's now free play instead of cash. You'll go to the casino cage so they can activate it on your cruise card. Then when you go to the machine (or tables) you will access your free play account. You can cash out winnings from your free play but you can't cash out just the free play itself.

Does your spouse in the same cabin get a VIP badge for drinks also? She is not a big gambler. $20 is her limit.

SteelerFanXL

Yes, you both get the free drinks. That's how it was for us this past November.

Princess cruise dining FAQ

princess ultimate vip cruise

Is food on Princess Cruises included?

Sit-down meals in the main dining room, which serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, are always included on a Princess cruise, and the menu varies somewhat daily. Also included is a buffet, either called World Fresh Marketplace or Horizon Court, depending on the ship, as well as fast casual and grab-and-go spots on board that serve pizza, tacos, burgers, pastries and ice cream.

Specialty restaurants including Crown Grill, Princess's steak and seafood house, and Sabatini's, the signature Italian restaurant, require a surcharge that's priced at a flat rate per adult or child; some menu items also require an additional surcharge no matter the age of the guest.

Related: The ultimate guide to Princess Cruises ships and itineraries

Are drinks included on Princess cruise ships?

Select beverages are always included: iced tea, hot tea, brewed coffee, hot chocolate, milk, fruit juice, lemonade and tap water. Everything else, including soft drinks, wine, beer, cocktails, spirits and specialty coffees, must either be purchased a la carte or through one of the cruise line's beverage packages .

Do I need reservations?

Reservations are encouraged for the main dining room and the specialty restaurants, and it's best to make them as early as possible ; walk-in parties will be accommodated on a space-available basis. Guests can make reservations via the Princess MedallionClass app or at guest services once you're on board. If you wish to eat at the same time every night, you can do so by reserving your tables in advance.

Platinum and Elite Captain's Circle members have early access to reservations. Passengers booked in a Full Suite or Reserve Collection Mini-Suite don't need to make dining reservations as they will always be accommodated; they also have access to a dedicated space in the main dining room with expedited seating and an expanded menu.

Does Princess Cruises have an evening dress code?

"Smart casual" attire will be appropriate for the main dining room, buffet and fast-casual restaurants. You might want to pack something dressier for the specialty restaurants or one of the more upscale dining experiences like Chef's Table, 360 or a winemaker dinner.

On sailings that are five nights or longer, there will be one or more formal nights, which do require adhering to a dress code in the dining venues . Cocktail dresses, evening gowns or dressy pantsuits are appropriate for women, while dark suits, tuxedos or dinner jackets and slacks are required for men , along with dressy footwear. If you don't want to dress up or forgot appropriate attire, you're welcome to dine at the buffet or any of the other casual dining options on board during formal night.

Is there assigned seating in the main dining room?

There is currently no assigned seating at any dining venues on board Princess ships; however, that is changing for cruises departing on or after September 14. For those sailings, guests can choose between traditional seating (with assigned dining times, tables, tablemates and waiters in the main dining room) or flexible seating. Within flexible seating, passengers can either make reservations to dine at a specific time on any given night or walk in when they're hungry to access the first available table.

Until September, Princess will not offer assigned seating, and guests can choose to make reservations or not for the main dining room. If you are a solo diner or part of a couple or small group, your host might ask if you would like to sit with another party of a similar size in the main dining room; the choice is up to you.

What if I have dietary restrictions?

You can use the Cruise Personalizer to indicate your dietary preferences, including requests for low-sodium, low-fat, low-sugar and vegetarian diets. Kosher meals and baby food are available with advanced written requests. If you have allergies or medical needs related to food, you must inform Princess in writing — check the line's website for more details. Princess Cruises also recently introduced a series of vegan menus for dinner in the main dining room, including starters, soups, salads, pastas and main dishes.

Where can I get snacks on board?

princess ultimate vip cruise

You'll find lots of spots to grab a quick bite, dessert or coffee, including Coffee & Cones, Patisserie, Swirls Ice Cream Bar, The Pastry Shop, International Cafe and Gelateria — options vary depending on the ship. Food at these venues is included, but there is a charge for specialty coffees and teas unless you have a beverage package.

Is room service included on Princess Cruises?

Guests can use the designated button on their cabin's phone to order room service 24 hours a day; each order incurs a $5 delivery fee, which is waived for those with Princess Plus or Princess Premier status.

You can also use the OceanNow feature in the Princess Medallion Class app to order food to be delivered to your cabin or anywhere else on the ship, like the pool deck. This feature is included with Princess Plus and Princess Premium; otherwise, there is a one-time access fee of $14.99 per person per voyage and a $5 delivery fee per order. Food and beverage surcharges may apply for some items ordered via room service.

Princess pulled bait and switch on Ultimate VIP

Cool Cruiser

I booked an Ultimate Hearts VIP with Princess months ago.  It was on the website and reflected in the travel summary.  Today I noticed that it's gone not only from the website but the travel summary on the website as well.  It's been pulled.   They also pulled the FP.

This is happening to a lot of people, and I'm really ticked off.  I would have never booked this particular cruise if not for the Ultimate VIP and FP.  If I cancel I lose the 200 nonrefundable deposit.

This is happening too often now, and some people are not finding out until they get onboard.  Once onboard the casino can do nothing to rectify this.

Be very diligent with checking your casino perks.

Agree and check your travel summary often and board with a screen shot showing your fp

I just want to clarify that the casino hosts can give you back your FP if you have your travel summary to back up your claim, but they cannot include you back on a VIP or Event Cruise if the system deleted you.   Even if you have your travel summary reflecting a VIP cruise, they have a list and if you aren't on it, you are SOL.

The system is dropping many people that have accepted and booked VIP and Event offers and changing them to Core offers.

I don't see how they can get away with that!!! 😳

You booked a trip with the listed perks... you have hardcopy Proof.

What, Princess thinks youre going to take it or leave it?

I don't think so!

That is definately WRONG.  I'm just shaking my head at whats been happening

with the casino Dept. lately.

Or LACK of Casino Dept.

I'm still waiting for a reply to MY inquiry to oceanplayersclub.

I hope you Notify them.  Don't let them get away with that.

and IF you decide to cancel on them?

Make sure you get your $200pp deposits back!

This CAN be done, but you might need to go up the chain.

THEY broke the contract, NOT you. ☹️

A recommended PVP said that she would help me on Monday.  Per the FB site 2 other posters on this same cruise have had the Ultimate Hearts pulled and changed to a core offer.   I hope that I can get the 200 dollars back if they refuse to honor the deal.  I not only have the original summary, I also have the email invite.   I'll give an update as soon as I find out.

Like we talked about on other Princess casino thread,

Oceanplayersclub.com

Can click on that to send Complaint/ inquiry.

I've found out ON the ships that if you submitted inquiry to oceanplayers?

Take a picture of your Ticket #, as Proof.

Then the Host onboard can contact them.....

Without the proof of ticket#?  Seemed they couldn't help.

Geez you really have to document Everything with them.

You are actually emailing:

[email protected]

I also sent same email to: [email protected]

Meant to add, I have a very good longtime CVP.

Hes gone up the ladder for me before... but at least

with my casino problem?  He couldn't really help.

I HOPE you can get some resolve soon!  Good Luck

Thanks

I have also been blocked from getting the VIP benefits on this cruise and the 3 other cruises that were offered. It's just the free room on a core offer. No Ultimate VIP amenities, no promised fp, nada.

I'm speculating again that they overbooked this cruise and am randomly switching bookings to core offers without notifying us.  Most people trust the system and do not find out until once onboard.  The hosts have to deal with this mess, and they have no power to switch the offers back from what I see from other people's experiences.   They can only have a certain capacity for the special events.

Update:  I spent well over an hour with the casino call center in the Philippines.  First, they tried to tell me that I already booked the VIP cruise and that is why it was cancelled.  I spent a lot of time and patience educating them on the Hearts and Ultimate Hearts VIP cruises, specifically that these are two different types of offers with different campaign codes and that I have hard copies of each booking.  I was on hold for much of the time as the caller kept running this past a supervisor.

They finally tell me that they will work on getting my FP back.  I tell them this is not just about the FP but I want the Ultimate Hearts amenities back also which include prizes from 300 to 1250, free drinks in casino, special drawings, a welcome party and nice gifts in cabin every night.   I get put back on hold.

I am then informed that my phone call is taking too much time, and they will call me back.  I ask if this call back will take days and I am told that it could.  The offer expires 12/9.  After that it cannot be reinstated.

And oh yes, if I cancel this cruise, I forfeit the 200 dollars nonrefundable deposit.  I have 4 other cruise offers with FP.  They have dropped this particular cruise to just a free cabin.  It's not a great date for me and I only booked it for the Ultimate VIP benefits.  So, I could just give up the cause and cancel the cruise and donate the 200-dollar nonrefundable deposit.

Update: I have gotten the FP and Ultimate Hearts amenities back. My summary on the website has been changed back from a free room core offer to Ultimate Hearts VIP and the FP is also restored. From what happened to me, it seems to be a glitch in the system. Moral of the story is to keep on top of your casino bookings. They may not be able to rectify the mistakes once onboard.

I have been successful in having my CVP fixing up things the casino group screws up. She seems to have contacts there

Would love to know who she is.  I utilized a recommended CVP for this situation and the only thing that she could do was call the casino line herself and transfer me over.  Seemed like a waste of time.

I am not allowed to put a name on this forum sorry

I also want to add that I messaged Princess on Instagram and received a response in 12 hours asking for my full name and birth date so that they could look up the cruise.   It seems like Twitter and Instagram may be the way to go to get better and speedier service.

Thanks so much for documenting the struggles with Princess Casino comp cruises.  Being new to Princess I never would have imagined this situation and have heard others onboard with same stories unable to reinstate previously confirmed benefits.

Reservations are encouraged for the main dining room and the specialty restaurants, and it's best to make them as early as possible ; walk-in parties will be accommodated on a space-available basis.

There is no assigned seating at any dining venues on board Princess ships. However, if you are a solo diner or part of a couple or small group, your host might ask if you would like to sit with another party of a similar size in the main dining room; the choice is up to you.

You can use the Cruise Personalizer to indicate your dietary preferences, including requests for low-sodium, low-fat, low-sugar and vegetarian diets. Kosher meals and baby food are available with advanced written requests. Princess Cruises also recently introduced a series of vegan menus for dinner in the main dining room, including starters, soups, salads, pastas and main dishes.

Where can I get snacks on board?

You'll find lots of spots to grab a quick bite, dessert or coffee, including Coffee & Cones, Patisserie, Swirls Ice Cream Bar, The Pastry Shop, International Cafe and Gelateria — options vary depending on the ship. Moscow vs St Petersburg – A Russian Rumble

Moscow vs St Petersburg

Russian river cruises are a fantastic way to discover the rich history and culture of an iconic nation. Moscow and St Petersburg are arguably two of Russia’s most famous and popular destinations – but which one is better? Two of our writers will go head to head in an attempt to persuade you why their favourite Russian city should be yours too – with Mark in Moscow’s corner and Jim St Petersburg’s. Ding ding! Let battle commence!

Don’t get me wrong, I do think that St Petersburg is a nice city – but I also think that Moscow is a fantastic city and beyond doubt the best in Russia. The entire region is steeped in illustrious history, from Red Square in the heart of the metropolis, where impressive historic landmarks including the Lenin Mausoleum and St Basil’s Cathedral dominate the skyline, to the world-famous Kremlin. If its history and culture you’re after, St Petersburg simply does not compare.

Moscow

Moscow also surpasses St Petersburg in terms of areas of natural beauty as well as tranquil parks and gardens. On a pleasant day, visitors can stroll through a number of the city’s wonderful green spaces, including the vast Gorkiy Park, the former imperial estate of Kolomenskoye and the ever-popular Park Sokolniki, filled with beautiful flora and a collection of charming attractions. Moving further off the beaten track is difficult in St Peterburg, whereas in Moscow, stunning outlying areas such as the Patriarshi pond area and the Japanese Garden in Botanichesky Sad offer the perfect place to spend a peaceful day.

When it comes to the shopping and dining experiences on offer, Moscow beats St Petersburg hands down. A wealth of authentic local food, delicious international cuisine and familiar fast food outlets are scattered across the city, offering tourists a plethora of culinary delights. Incredible mixes of gastronomic cultures are available in Moscow. Visitors will find everything from Thai, Vietnamese and Chinese dishes to Armenian and Azerbaijani cuisine.

Tourist’s hoping to pick up some local gifts will find a treasure trove of souvenirs across Moscow, at the range of opulent shopping malls and quaint marketplaces located all over the centre of the city.

In my humble (and correct) opinion – based on the facts in front of me – St Petersburg doesn’t hold a candle to the amazing sights and sounds of Moscow, Russia’s world-famous capital city.

St Petersburg

Sure, Moscow’s the capital; it’s great for squares, overly-expensive cups of coffee and the like. But you can never take Russia’s second city out of contention. Yes, it was built on a swamp, but Peter the Great clearly knew what he was doing. St. Petersburg is one of the most vital modern European cities, don’t let the devotees to the (admittedly, pretty) sights of Moscow fool you.

Perhaps it’s because St. Petersburg’s architect was Italian that it manages to so thoroughly stand out from the crowd of Russian cities. Maybe it’s the winding canals and the classical architecture. Regardless of the past, St. Petersburg is a city which manages to straddle the sweet spot between historical importance and modern style.

St Petersburg

But who says Moscow rules the roost when it comes to the historical? There are enough sights in St. Petersburg to keep tourists occupied for days, if not weeks.

Leading the pack is the iconic Winter Palace, an eternally magnificent reminder that Russia is always a hotspot for architecture. Beautifully pristine even after all these years, it remains a contender for the finest photographic subject in Europe – a grand mass of imperial pillars and colourful décor.

And then, of course, there’s the State Hermitage Museum. If the Winter Palace had Moscow on the ropes, this is where St. Petersburg draws back and flings out an uppercut to finish it off.  The museum remains firmly rooted in prodigious hype, but that never stops it from living up to it. Everything from Egyptian mummies to Picasso masterpieces can be found in the endless varnished halls of the State Hermitage, and like the city itself, you’ll wish you had days more to explore it.

And to top it all off, you can visit it all during the legendary White Nights, where on long summer days the sun never seems to dip below the horizon. St Petersburg might be known as a second city, but Moscow has best be looking over its shoulder.
