Let’s go, girls…

Shania Twain kicked off the weekend by unveiling the name of her upcoming album and tour: “Queen of Me.” The album is set to debut on February 3, and the tour — which comes at the heels of Twain’s jaw-dropping Las Vegas residency and includes dozens of stops worldwide — kicks off in late April of 2023.

“These days, I'm feeling very comfortable in my own skin - and I think this album reflects that musically,” Twain shared as she made her announcement on Friday (October 28). “Life is short and I want to be uplifted, colorful, unapologetic and empowered. I want to carry a clear message, particularly as a woman, to always remember my power and I hope the songs are a reminder to you, of that same power inside you!”

Queen of Me is set to include a few previously-released songs on the 12-track project, including “Not Just A Girl” and “Waking Up Dreaming,” Twain’s latest single that she released in September . The country music icon said at the time that she “had to give you some more outfit inspo” with the vibrant music video, and hoped, as with all her music, fans would “ take it and make it your own .”

The global “Queen of Me Tour” is set to include special guests on select dates, including Kelsea Ballerini , Lindsay Ell , Hailey Whitters , Breland , Robyn Ottolini , Priscilla Block , and Mickey Guyton . One of Twain’s tour stops is at GEODIS Park in Nashville, Tennessee, where she’ll headline the first-ever concert at the new venue . Ballerini and Breland are set to join the country queen on that date.

“I want to celebrate this new chapter with you all on my tour!” Twain continued. “ Vegas has been a dream , but I’m ready to be on the road and sing with you, dance with you and have a kick a** night out with you! This one's gonna be a big party - no inhibitions, no conditions, let's get a little out of line!!

“I’ll be Queen Of Me – you be Queen of YOU! 👑”

The high-energy set took ticket-holders on a journey through her three-decade-long career and tracks from her recently released album,  Queen of Me . The sold-out crowd catapulted to its feet when they heard the captivating chords of “Waking Up Dreaming” at the start of the show. It wasn’t until the lively chorus that the icon made her grand appearance in an eye-catching ensemble.

While performing on a vibrant stage that features state-of-the-art visuals and a rocket ship initialed “ST,” – she delivered a handful of fan favorites such as “Up!,” “Don’t Be Stupid (You Know I Love You),” “I’m Gonna Getcha Good,” “Any Man Of Mine,” “From This Moment On,” “You’re Still the One,” and “That Don’t Impress Me Much.”

Twain joined forces with creative producers Corey FitzGerald (Adele, Blackprint, Kendrick Lamar), BLINK’s Tom Colbourne, and Rupa Rathod (Katy Perry, Carrie Underwood, Doja Cat) to create the immersive experience that displays high-end production and striking screen graphics.

According to a press release, the singer/songwriter shared a mashup of tracks that she “hasn’t performed in decades.” The medley included, “Nah!,” “She’s Not Just A Pretty Face,” and “Waiter! Bring Me Water!,” “When,” “Thank You Baby!” and “Party For Two.”

Breakout star Lindsay Ell served as direct support and is slated to open at a handful of upcoming dates. Twain has provided other Nashville newcomers and promising acts the opportunity to join in on the fun. Hailey Whitters, BRELAND, Kelsea Ballerini, Robyn Ottolini, Priscilla Block, and Mickey Guyton will appear throughout the first run.

“I’m waking up dreaming after a fabulous night in Spokane!!” wrote Twain on social media following opening night. “What a gorgeous way to kick off the tour!!”

Queen of Me Tour serves as Twain’s most extensive trek to date, making 80 stops worldwide just in 2023. The show marks Twain’s first tour in nearly five years and follows her critically acclaimed residency in Sin City. To honor the start of the Queen of Me Tour , the country-pop sensation expanded her Republic Nashville debut with five new tracks. She also released re-imagined versions of “Inhale/Exhale AIR (feat. BRELAND),” “Queen of Me,” and “Giddy Up!”

Shania Twain Feels Like A New Woman On ‘Queen of Me’

By Jon Freeman

Jon Freeman

On her new album Queen of Me , Shania Twain doesn’t sound like the same person who was once so on top she could playfully feign indifference toward Brad Pitt’s movie-star looks in “That Don’t Impress Me Much.” At the time, she could do no wrong, having become a global star and brought country music forward into a new era with arena-rock attitude, sex appeal, and hooks to match. But as her long-awaited 2017 album Now demonstrated, Twain’s voice, affected by illness and slowly rehabilitated, has changed — it’s deeper and more textured than when she was the undisputed queen of country pop. And though there are a few subtle nods to that imperial phase of her career, Queen of Me doesn’t concern itself too much with her former dominance. Instead, it’s an uplifting statement about being your own champion in the present.

Queen of Me is more successful when its pop references feel attuned to her sensibilities as a global pop O.G. “Got It Good” has a touch of the old maximalist Twain energy, but it’s underpinned by a sleek disco beat out of Kylie Minogue’s Fever era and ABBA-style vocal harmonies. The album’s closing track “The Hardest Stone,” produced by Twenty One Pilots’ Tyler Joseph, is equally fascinating with its hip-hop breakbeat, cavernous bass, and vulnerable vocal performance. “When will I learn?” Twain sings, still feeling the sting of a heartbreak. It’s a grounding moment on the heels of a fortifying pep talk. You can and should take control of your life, Twain suggests on Queen of Me , long as you realize it won’t make you invincible.

Queen Of Me

In the six years since Shania Twain released her 2017 album Now, the country-pop trailblazer has been through the wringer. In 2018, she underwent open-throat surgery—an attempt to fix lingering vocal issues caused by a 2003 bout with Lyme disease—that required her to not only be conscious, but to sing through the operation so that the doctors could identify any misalignment. “Terrible,” she tells Apple Music. But getting her voice back after 15 years? “Euphoric.” Then, at the height of the pandemic, a bad case of COVID morphed into life-threatening pneumonia that led to Twain being airlifted to a hospital. “I was pretty much dying,” she says. But she prevailed. Twain has made a career out of turning trauma into triumph. Her warm, winking, wholesome hits have always offered more than comfort; they reframe the way we see ourselves and our circumstances for the better. Bad breakup? Relish your freedom! Disrespected? Reclaim your womanhood. Not impressed much? Demand better. On album after album, she’s led by example, processing her many hardships—a violent, abusive childhood; the death of both of her parents in a car crash; a messy divorce sparked by her husband’s affair with her best friend; and so on—through relatable, hopeful songs that depict someone stronger, bolder, brighter. On her sixth full-length, she does it again—only this time, raspier and a little more sensual with her new post-surgery voice. (She has leaned into the change, of course, noting that she “actually got more depth.”) Queen of Me is more complex than its bumper-sticker title lets on; these songs explore loneliness, regret, motherhood, marriage, survival, and the strength it takes to keep your head held high. These would be heavy topics in anyone else’s hands, but Twain, a seasoned, savvy songwriter, has always had a way of floating over her misfortunes, making even the most dispiriting obstacles feel surmountable and small. The woman simply refuses to wallow. Instead, she flips the script: A toxic, controlling ex inspires a toast to her financial independence (“Queen of Me”); breaking up with a dead-end narcissist sparks an empowerment anthem about knowing her worth (“Brand New”); and a harrowing near-death experience prompts a tribute to the invisible, life-giving forces we all take for granted (“Inhale/Exhale AIR”). “You celebrate when you get through something difficult,” she says. “I do, anyway.”

Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift ’s Thursday (May 9) performance at the la Défense Arena in Paris marked the beginning of a new era – literally. At what she called “the kick-off of the European leg of the Eras Tour,” Swift added a new section of songs from The Tortured Poets Department, which debuted on the Billboard 200 with 2.61 million equivalent album units and is currently No. 1 for a second week, in between the Australasia shows and a string of European shows through the end of August. As if to underscore the special occasion, Swift pointed out that it was the first time she had played those songs on the Eras Tour — “or as I call it, Female Rage: The Musical .”

For a truly global superstar, Swift hasn’t toured much in Europe on a serious scale, but both French fans and a significant number of concert tourists from the U.S. knew what to expect. Even the normally minimalist French swapped their black dresses for pink frills and lyric-inspired outfits. (Respect to the Best Dressed Dads: One guy in a “Dad Reputation” T-shirt, another in one that said “Look What My Daughter Made Me Do”.)

As soon as Tortured Poets -style graphics came on the screens, the applause was deafening, and it stayed that way as Swift played “But Daddy I Love Him,” “So High School,” “Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me?” “Down Bad,” “Fortnight,” “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived” and “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart.” The screaming only got louder for “Paris.”

Based on the first night, it seems that the European shows on the Eras Tour will not be a break with the rest of the tour so much as an evolution – as Swift releases more music, the show needs to grow as she does. Here are some new, and a few familiar, highlights.

Paramore’s Talking Heads Cover

Swift isn’t only a hard act to follow, she’s hard to open for, and Paramore will play before her all summer in some of the biggest venues in Europe. So frontwoman Haley Williams laid out the band’s mission: Getting the crowd “ripe and ready for Miss Taylor Swift.” They did just that, kicking their set into high gear with the second song, a sharp-edged cover of the Talking Heads’ “Burning Down the House.” The song is half funk, half a herky-jerky deconstruction of it, and Paramore leaned into that contradiction, as Williams, an energetic performer, did her best high-octane, high-awkwardness dance. “There’s no such thing as bad dancing at a Paramore show,” she told the crowd after that.” But since Swift’s performance is polished to a high sheen, Paramore’s manic, messy energy made a nice contrast.

Taylor Speaks French!

The idea that American and British performers touring Europe will attempt a few sentences in the local language has lasted long past the time when local audiences didn’t speak great English. No one cares anymore. Except when it comes to Swift, who only had to speak one word, enchanté – literally “enchanted” but colloquially “good to meet you” – to get Parisians, who are normally too cool to go nuts, to go nuts. She continued in what sounded like a decent accent – something was très bien and something else was c’est magnifique – and the crowd just kept going crazy.

Some of the fans there were French and hadn’t had much of a chance to see Swift before this, but some came from other countries in Europe and others from the U.S. or Canada. It was a smart way to build energy, too. After Swift’s countdown clock hit zero, she opened with “Miss Americana & the Heartbreak Prince” and “Cruel Summer,” then gave herself a minute to stand still without letting the crowd’s energy fall. Then she went onward to “The Man” and “You Need to Calm Down,” which no one did.

The Staging of “Look What You Made Me Do”

The energy of the concert never flagged, but certain songs made the audience erupt with enthusiasm. The most artfully staged was “Look What You Made Me Do,” which had the backup dancers in what looked like plastic display cases that they broke out of. The constant movement was muted, restrained – then freed and unleashed as the song’s beat seemed the make the arena shake. Sure, as the song says, the old Taylor can’t come to the phone right now; why? Because she’s dead! But the staging was all about escape, rebirth, reinvention. It’s the Eras Tour, after all.

Cabin Fever Up on the Roof

Since Lover served as the show’s opening era, after the Reputation performances ended with “Look What You Made Me Do” – and rapturous applause – one of the newer Taylors (circa Folklore and Evermore ) came back onstage, atop a see-through wood cabin. Lounging on the roof, as the audience’s wristbands glowed an autumnal yellow, Swift performed “Cardigan.” It’s hard to make an arena mellow, but the cabin established a setting and the mood-lighting drove the point home: This was about atmosphere. It’s a gorgeous, ethereal song, quite a contrast from “Look What You Made Me Do,” but that’s the point of having eras in the first place.

Swift Shook It Off

The section of the show devoted to Folklore and Evermore had its own kind of energy – rapturous and almost roomy, rather than fast and furious. Swift explored it with eight songs – “Cardigan,” “Betty,” an especially affecting “Champagne Problems,” “August,” a shortened “Illicit Affairs,” “My Tears Ricochet,” “Marjorie,” and “Willow.” It was like a walk in the woods, followed by a crash back into the city when the 1989 segment started with “Style,” after which Swift went into “Blank Space,” and then a triumphant “Shake It Off,” a short “Wildest Dreams” and a “Bad Blood” that brought down the house. The last three songs came off like a victory lap, as though Swift was justifiably proud of her quieter music but wanted to show that she still owned the shake-the-stadium anthems of her first pure pop album. The stage was set for…something.

Poets in Paris

Before the show, one could hear anticipation (in several languages) about whether Swift would add a new era for her new album. The consensus seemed to be… probablement , and it ended with a new video that had the visual vocabulary of The Tortured Poets Department – moody, with muted tones and images of paper and, at one point, a typewriter. The applause went from loud to explosive – most people there knew enough about the normal setlist to realize this was a departure from that, and that they would be the first ones to see it. In a white dress, Swift leaned into this, and a version of “But Daddy I Love Him” that went directly into “So High School” made everyone realize they were seeing something truly special. Swift, who always seems happy to be wherever she’s performing, seemed especially excited, too. It is, literally, a new era.

 Who’s Afraid Indeed?

Swift played a generous helping of new songs – “But Daddy” and “So High School,” and then “Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me?” “Down Bad,” “Fortnight,” “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived” and “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart” – all with the kind of precision that the entire show is known for. But the live standout was “Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me?” which has the scorned fury of some of her earlier songs, and a backing video that lit up her eyes underscored the anger in it. If this tour is Female Rage: The Musical , as Swift says, “Who’s Afraid” emerged as one of the frighteningly good numbers.

Paris, Part Deux: Unplugged

After the Tortured Poets era, Swift took out an acoustic guitar and, even without doing anything, raised a certain amount of suspense about what songs she’d play on it. “There’s a song that I have been wanting to play in the acoustic set in the Eras Tour ever since I wrote it,” Swift said, “but I was only going to play it for the very first time” – suspense! – “in one specific city.” The crowd went wild: She meant “Paris,” in Paris! It was perfectly suited for the unplugged treatment, and it went over great – especially in a crowd with so many people who had traveled so far to be there. Then she played “loml” on the piano, which was less obvious but even more beautiful.

Sussexes’ Nigeria trip is a royal tour – on their terms

Duchess thanks people of Nigeria for ‘welcoming me home’

tmg.video.placeholder.alt GZUhzneJeSk

There were excited schoolchildren, speeches about mental health, a formal welcome ceremony and an outfit change. Musicians and dancers showcased local culture, the military put on a show and the guests of honour let slip a few sweet anecdotes about their children.

If this was Royal tour bingo, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex would have nearly a full house.

In Nigeria, the start of their three-day trip saw them follow the tried-and-tested programme the Duke has known all his adult life.

But this time, it was on the Sussexes’ own terms.

harry and meghan

Traditionally, it is royal women who visibly honour the host nation through wearing local designers, significant jewellery or the colours of the country. This time, the Duchess wore pure white while the Duke donned a suit in green: together making up the colours of the Nigerian flag.

In an earlier outfit, the Duchess wore a low-backed, peach-coloured dress in the neutral tones she is known for. She has previously said that while in Britain, she “ rarely wore colour ” in an effort to not “stand out” or clash with the Royal family.

She praised her husband as “so smart”, after he handed her the microphone following a speech about mental health.

“As I look around this room,” she told Nigerian students, “I see myself in all of you as well.”

The Duke and Duchess were filmed joining in a preschool music and dance class, revealing Princess Lilibet , who is nearly three, likes her “singing and dancing” classes and five-year-old Prince Archie loves “construction”.

In short, this is the type of trip to fit the Sussexes in their newfound freedom – high on smiling selfies, hugs and heartfelt words; low on official handshakes, diplomatic meetings and British press.

Britain's Meghan, Duchess of Sussex (1st row 2nd R), takes a selfie with students as she arrives with Britain's Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, during their visit at the Lightway Academy in Abuja on May 10, 2024 as they visit Nigeria as part of celebrations of Invictus Games anniversary.

Instead of a private secretary and palace advisers on foreign and Commonwealth matters, they had James Holt, the director of Archewell Foundation, David Wiseman, the Director for International Development at the Invictus Games Foundation, and their press secretaries.

In 2024, four years after they left working royal life, the couple are back on the world stage. After years of looking back – in a memoir, Netflix series and a myriad of interviews focusing on the challenges of their time in the Royal family – they are trying to look forward.

The Duchess is in the midst of releasing her American Riviera Orchard brand into the world and the Duke ploughs on with his Invictus mission.

Adenike Keennam, whose husband is in the air force, met the Duchess at the official welcome ceremony at Nigeria’s Defence Headquarters.

“I told her ‘welcome home’. She gave me a big smile,” she said afterwards.

“I think it’s significant they’re here in many ways. With people like them who you see on TV or on the papers, to see them in person goes a long way.”

The prince was given a military welcome as he switched to formal attire for the defence visit

The Sussexes had been given a military welcome, hosted by Christopher Musa, the chief of defence staff.

The Duke spoke of his gratitude for then “joining the Invictus movement for Nigeria and for every single soul who’s been injured protecting the freedoms of Nigeria”.

As they signed the visitors’ book, Prince Harry remarked about the Duchess’s calligraphy. “She has beautiful handwriting.”

“With gratitude for the support of the Invictus community. And for welcoming me home” she wrote.

Both Prince Harry and the Duchess signed a visitors book to say thank you for their welcome

The Duke wrote: “Thank you for welcoming us to your beautiful country together, we will heal our troops”

Earlier in the day, the couple visited the Lightway Academy in Abuja for an event focusing on mental health .

“Will you promise to us that after today, no more being scared, no more being unsure of mental health?” the Duke told students.

“If you see your friend in your class not smiling, what are you gonna do? You gonna check in with them? Are you gonna ask him if they’re okay? ‘cause it’s okay not to be okay.”

As the Duke handed over the microphone, the Duchess asked the audience: “You see why I married him? He’s so smart.”

She went on to tell students: “Interestingly, so our daughter, Lili, she’s much, much tinier than you guys. She’s about to turn three.

“And a few weeks ago she looked at me and she would just see the reflection in my eyes. And she was, mama, I see me in you.

“Oh, now she was talking really, literally.

“But I hung onto those words in a very different way. And I thought, yes, I do see me and you, and you see me and you, but as I look around this room, I see myself in all of you as well.”

It is the couple’s first visit to Nigeria .

Meghan Markle gestures as she and Prince Harry visit children at the Lights Academy in Abuja, Nigeria, Friday, May 10, 2024. Prince Harry and his wife Meghan have arrived in Nigeria to champion the Invictus Games, which he founded to aid the rehabilitation of wounded and sick servicemembers and veterans

On Saturday, they will attend a training session for Nigeria: Unconquered and a reception hosted by the chief of defence staff in honour of military families. The Duchess will co-host a “Women in Leadership” event with Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the director general of the World Trade Organisation.

Later in the day, the Duke made a solo trip 150 miles away, to Kaduna where he paid a visit to Senator Uba Sani, the governor of Kaduna state. Kaduna is labelled as a no-go zone by the Foreign and Commonwealth Development Office, which advises against all but essential travel to the state.

“I’m sorry that I didn’t bring my wife,” the Duke said, explaining she had separate meetings in Abuja. “The focus here in Kaduna is the wounded, injured and sick men and women who serve in Nigerian forces and keep people safe.”

Before he left, the Duke was given two paintings: one of him and his late mother Princess Diana, the other of him and the Duchess.

Prince Harry was presented with two portraits, one of which was of him and his mother, Princess Diana

He was asked to put on another gift – an outfit of a traditional waistcoat and a “Big Gown” and a Hula cap too.

Afterwards, he travelled to Reference Hospital Kaduna, the first port of call for injured Nigerian soldiers.

The Duke toured six wards, seeing row after row of young men recuperating from their injuries. Many had been shot or lost limbs after being ambushed by Boko Haram.

“You are going to get better, get back on your feet,” he told those in the first ward, during a visit in which he shook around 50 hands.

Corp Yusef, 23, who had been shot through the knee, spoke to him and the Duke asked him about his rehab. “Are you going to try for the Invictus Games team? Are you preparing for that? Don’t disappoint us” and then, pointing to his friend David Wiseman, an Invictus veteran who now works on the international expansion of the said, “or him!”

“We will see you there.”

As the Prince left the ward, Yusef was doing push ups on the bed to show his motivation to get ready.

Half way round he was introduced to 2nd Lt Princess Owowoh, 23, who had recently graduated from Sandhurst military academy where the Prince trained to be an army officer . “He wrote to congratulate me and say that they were coming to Nigeria and about the Invictus Games Foundation,” she said.

“The Invictus Games gives hope to the soldiers. It encourages them to walk towards a goal, to achieve something new.”

In the prosthetics and orthotics workshop, the Duke asked why more of the men he had just seen were not, and was told it was “partly stigma”.

As he left, he was given a large mirror decorated with a painting of himself with the Duchess.

Kaduna is labelled as a no-go zone by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, which advises against all but essential travel to the state.

The European leg of the Eras Tour is finally here. After a two-month hiatus, Taylor Swift is refreshing her setlist following the release of The Tortured Poets Department. Read on for the updated setlist for the Eras Tour (so far) in Paris .

On May 9, Swift performed her first of four shows in Paris to kick off the European leg of her high-grossing tour. Throughout the three-hour set, Swifties took note of various changes to the performance, including new glittery outfits and the addition of tracks from her latest album, TTPD .

The most notable change of the night was when Swift added seven tracks from her latest album to her setlist. This included abbreviated renditions of "But Daddy I Love Him," "Who's Afraid Of Little Old Me?", "Fortnight," "The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived," and "I Can Do It With A Broken Heart," along with samples from "So High School" and "Down Bad."

Unfortunately, Swift had to trim some tracks from her lengthy set to make room for the new songs. Songs that were dropped include “The Archer,” “The Last Great American Dynasty,” “The 1,” “’Tis the Damn Season,” and “Tolerate It.”

Swift also switched up the sequence of her eras by moving the Red era earlier in the setlist and shifting the reputation era to a later slot. Additionally, she merged the Folklore and evermore eras together. “On The Eras Tour we have now reunited the sisters!” she told the audience. “You can call it Folklore , Evermore or you can call it the sister albums!”

Also, when the singer enters her Speak Now era, there is a new transition with florals on the screen while her dancers perform a new routine before she sings “Enchanted” (which was previously “Long Live,” which she added mid-tour last year).

Just call it tortured couture.

Following a two-month break, Taylor Swift’s record-breaking Eras Tour resumed in Paris, France, on Thursday — and along with adding several songs from her latest album, “The Tortured Poets Department,” to the already-sprawling setlist, the superstar treated lucky ticket holders to some fresh fashion, too.

Swift performed new tunes “But Daddy I Love Him,” “So High School,” “Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me?,” “Down Bad” and “Fortnight” wearing a white taffeta dress with a corseted bodice, dramatic hip draping and her own lyrics (“I love you, it’s ruining my life”) scrawled down the high-low skirt — a custom design by Vivienne Westwood, as the brand confirmed to Page Six Style.

She accessorized with one of the house’s signature three-row Orb chokers ($720) and, before launching into “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived,” topped off her gown with a matching white trench coat featuring military-style epaulettes and frogging.

Swift then switched things up with an on-stage costume change, stripping down to a second Vivienne Westwood ensemble: a black crystal-embellished bra top and briefs, which she layered beneath a metallic gold tailcoat with black crystal-embellished lapels to close out the “TTPD” section with “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart.”

The new costumes are perfectly in line with the literature-inspired looks Swift’s been exploring while promoting “TTPD” — think corsets, pleated skirts and plenty of black and white .

“There’s definitely a ‘literary academia’ style that’s going on,” Taylor Swift Style blogger Sarah Chapelle told Page Six Style last month. “The [visuals] are telling a very cohesive story, which is clearly pointing to being inspired by female poets of the past.”

The “Black Dog” singer collaborated with a number of major fashion houses on her stage styles for the Eras Tour, all of which are inspired by her past album aesthetics .

Standouts include the bedazzled Atelier Versace bodysuits Swift wears during the “Lover” section of her performance, the sparkling Roberto Cavalli crop-top-and-miniskirt combos she sports for the “1989” segment and the flowing, fluttering Alberta Ferretti gowns that add ethereal drama to the “Folklore” portion of the show.

And given that the aforementioned brands provided several different color variations of each look for Swift to rotate between as her tour rolls on, additional “TTPD” costumes are practically guaranteed to pop up at the shows ahead.
