Road Trip Shoulder Bag sewing pattern
This is the Road Trip Shoulder Bag pdf sewing pattern from the designer Susie D Designs .
The designer says her sturdy shoulder bag has a stylish finish of coordinated piping around the flap closure and centre panels. The flap is secured with a riveted press-snap. There are two useful interior slip-in pockets and a long shoulder strap, enabling the bag to be worn cross-body.
Make it for yourself, family, friends or sell your finished items!
Skill lev el: The designer rates her Road Trip Shoulder Bag as suitable for the intermediate sewer.
Sizing info: When you make one of your own Road Trip Shoulder Bags it will measure approximately 28 cm (11”) by 29 cm (11 ⅜”) by 6 cm (2 ⅜”).
What’s needed to make a Road Trip Shoulder Bag:-
- Yardage is based on 112 cm (44”) fabric width and 90 cm (35.5”) Vilene interfacing width. Note: if using 20” width interfacing, like Pellon, you’ll need double the amount stated, see below. (1) 60 cm (3/4 yard) fabric 1 – cotton print. (2) 25 cm (3/8 yard) fabric 2 – cotton print. (3) 30 cm (3/8 yard) fabric 3 – cotton print. (4) 25 cm (3/8 yard) fabric 4 – cotton print. (5) 30 cm (3/8 yard) lining fabric – cotton solid.
- 1 m (1 1/8 yard) medium-weight woven fusible interfacing – Vilene G700 (double this amount is required if using Pellon SF101 , or any other 20″ width, so get 2 ¼ yards).
- 25 cm (3/8 yard) low-loft fusible fleece – Vilene H630 – (double this amount is required if using Pellon 987F, or any other 20″ width, so get 3/4 yard).
- 2 m (2.2 yards) of 40 mm (1.5”) wide, bias cut strips of fabric – (alternatively, buy pre-made bias binding – such as pre-folded 25 mm / 1″ binding which you can then open out, press then re-fold in half).
- 2 m (2.2 yards) of 3 mm (1/8”) piping cord .
- 2x 2.5 cm (1”) rectangular metal belt-rings.
- 15 mm (5/8”) riveted press snap and fixing tool.
- Sewing-machine zipper presser foot .
When you add this pdf pattern to your pattern collection, you’ll be able to download a full set of ready-to-print actual size templates / pattern pieces. Measurements are also given for all the straight cut pieces if you prefer not to use templates (metric and imperial).

Measure 1 inch from the top of the bag on the Handle piece as shown. This will make room to stitch the Lining and Bag Body together later.
Stitch each side of the Handles in place and across your drawn line at the top. * Be sure to leave that 1 inch open from the top of the Outside Body pieces.
Repeat with second Outside body piece, Handle and Outside Pocket.
Place raw edges of Outside Base piece and one Outside Body piece, RIGHT sides together. Stitch along the bottom raw edges.
Press toward the Outside Base. Topstitch along seam.
Repeat with second Outside Body piece and opposite raw edge of Outside Base.
Press toward Base and Topstitch along seam.

Fold one corner in to make a triangle. Measure 3 1/2 inches up from the corner point at the seam. Side to side should measure 7″. Draw a line across corner. Stitch ON your drawn line.

Privacy Overview
- Most purposes explained in this notice rely on the storage or accessing of information from your device when you use an app or visit a website. For example, a vendor or publisher might need to store a cookie on your device during your first visit on a website, to be able to recognise your device during your next visits (by accessing this cookie each time).
- A car manufacturer wants to promote its electric vehicles to environmentally conscious users living in the city after office hours. The advertising is presented on a page with related content (such as an article on climate change actions) after 6:30 p.m. to users whose non-precise location suggests that they are in an urban zone.
- A large producer of watercolour paints wants to carry out an online advertising campaign for its latest watercolour range, diversifying its audience to reach as many amateur and professional artists as possible and avoiding showing the ad next to mismatched content (for instance, articles about how to paint your house). The number of times that the ad has been presented to you is detected and limited, to avoid presenting it too often.
- If you read several articles about the best bike accessories to buy, this information could be used to create a profile about your interest in bike accessories. Such a profile may be used or improved later on, on the same or a different website or app to present you with advertising for a particular bike accessory brand. If you also look at a configurator for a vehicle on a luxury car manufacturer website, this information could be combined with your interest in bikes to refine your profile and make an assumption that you are interested in luxury cycling gear.
- An apparel company wishes to promote its new line of high-end baby clothes. It gets in touch with an agency that has a network of clients with high income customers (such as high-end supermarkets) and asks the agency to create profiles of young parents or couples who can be assumed to be wealthy and to have a new child, so that these can later be used to present advertising within partner apps based on those profiles.
- An online retailer wants to advertise a limited sale on running shoes. It wants to target advertising to users who previously looked at running shoes on its mobile app. Tracking technologies might be used to recognise that you have previously used the mobile app to consult running shoes, in order to present you with the corresponding advertisement on the app.
- A profile created for personalised advertising in relation to a person having searched for bike accessories on a website can be used to present the relevant advertisement for bike accessories on a mobile app of another organisation.
- You read several articles on how to build a treehouse on a social media platform. This information might be added to a profile to mark your interest in content related to outdoors as well as do-it-yourself guides (with the objective of allowing the personalisation of content, so that for example you are presented with more blog posts and articles on treehouses and wood cabins in the future).
- You have viewed three videos on space exploration across different TV apps. An unrelated news platform with which you have had no contact builds a profile based on that viewing behaviour, marking space exploration as a topic of possible interest for other videos.
- You read articles on vegetarian food on a social media platform and then use the cooking app of an unrelated company. The profile built about you on the social media platform will be used to present you vegetarian recipes on the welcome screen of the cooking app.
- You have viewed three videos about rowing across different websites. An unrelated video sharing platform will recommend five other videos on rowing that may be of interest to you when you use your TV app, based on a profile built about you when you visited those different websites to watch online videos.
- You have clicked on an advertisement about a “black Friday” discount by an online shop on the website of a publisher and purchased a product. Your click will be linked to this purchase. Your interaction and that of other users will be measured to know how many clicks on the ad led to a purchase.
- You are one of very few to have clicked on an advertisement about an “international appreciation day” discount by an online gift shop within the app of a publisher. The publisher wants to have reports to understand how often a specific ad placement within the app, and notably the “international appreciation day” ad, has been viewed or clicked by you and other users, in order to help the publisher and its partners (such as agencies) optimise ad placements.
- You have read a blog post about hiking on a mobile app of a publisher and followed a link to a recommended and related post. Your interactions will be recorded as showing that the initial hiking post was useful to you and that it was successful in interesting you in the related post. This will be measured to know whether to produce more posts on hiking in the future and where to place them on the home screen of the mobile app.
- You were presented a video on fashion trends, but you and several other users stopped watching after 30 seconds. This information is then used to evaluate the right length of future videos on fashion trends.
- The owner of an online bookstore wants commercial reporting showing the proportion of visitors who consulted and left its site without buying, or consulted and bought the last celebrity autobiography of the month, as well as the average age and the male/female distribution of each category. Data relating to your navigation on its site and to your personal characteristics is then used and combined with other such data to produce these statistics.
- An advertiser wants to better understand the type of audience interacting with its adverts. It calls upon a research institute to compare the characteristics of users who interacted with the ad with typical attributes of users of similar platforms, across different devices. This comparison reveals to the advertiser that its ad audience is mainly accessing the adverts through mobile devices and is likely in the 45-60 age range.
- A technology platform working with a social media provider notices a growth in mobile app users, and sees based on their profiles that many of them are connecting through mobile connections. It uses a new technology to deliver ads that are formatted for mobile devices and that are low-bandwidth, to improve their performance.
- An advertiser is looking for a way to display ads on a new type of consumer device. It collects information regarding the way users interact with this new kind of device to determine whether it can build a new mechanism for displaying advertising on this type of device.
- A travel magazine has published an article on its website about the new online courses proposed by a language school, to improve travelling experiences abroad. The school’s blog posts are inserted directly at the bottom of the page, and selected on the basis of your non-precise location (for instance, blog posts explaining the course curriculum for different languages than the language of the country you are situated in).
- A sports news mobile app has started a new section of articles covering the most recent football games. Each article includes videos hosted by a separate streaming platform showcasing the highlights of each match. If you fast-forward a video, this information may be used to select a shorter video to play next.
- An advertising intermediary delivers ads from various advertisers to its network of partnering websites. It notices a large increase in clicks on ads relating to one advertiser, and uses data regarding the source of the clicks to determine that 80% of the clicks come from bots rather than humans.
- Clicking on a link in an article might normally send you to another page or part of the article. To achieve this, 1°) your browser sends a request to a server linked to the website, 2°) the server answers back (“here is the article you asked for”), using technical information automatically included in the request sent by your device, to properly display the information / images that are part of the article you asked for. Technically, such exchange of information is necessary to deliver the content that appears on your screen.

“Life is too short to not go on that spontanoeus road trip. But… If I can’t take my yarn, then I’m not going!”
So let’s crochet a cool tote bag to bring our yarn projects with us in our Road Trip!
Let’s take it up a notch! Her’s a cute stripes tote bag with the “Road Trip” phrase in the middle. This bag is almost the same size as a regular grocery tote bag. 14” wide, 15 1/2” height with 11” hang
This is an instant pdf download. The pattern includes a chart pattern with counts on it (so you don’t have to), a tutorial on how to an “almost” invisible seam (to make our stripes perfect), tutorial for the bag handle with Thermal Stitch and lots of tips.

Road Tripster Tote (PDF Pattern)
Couldn't load pickup availability
The Road Tripster Tote (RTT) is the perfect tote to take on your travels! It was designed with road tripping in mind: large enough to hold everything you need, yet sized so that it easily fits by your feet and out of the way. It's great for in your car or as a carry on. This tote has it all! There are internal and external slip pockets, zipper pockets (including a full-panel size zip pocket), a water bottle pocket (which can also hold sunscreen!), a padded tablet sleeve, and clips to hold your keys or wallet (perfect for clipping an Essential Wallet Clutch to). This pattern is suitable for a domestic machine and is beginner-friendly. This PDF pattern download comes with written instructions for each step along with coordinating photos. Full-size pattern template pieces are also included, however it's not necessary to print them as all measurements are included in the cutting chart. You can use cotton, canvas, cork, or vinyl. The options are only limited to your imagination (and you're machine's ability) :)
Material and Hardware requirements:
Finished RTT size: 16” wide x 12” high (not including handle straps)

Great bag I love it
I’ve made the tripster and the roadie and love them both. It’s slow going at first for me - so many pieces to cut and keep track of-but the sewing directions are terrific and it comes out beautifully!!
- Choosing a selection results in a full page refresh.

Description.
*** This is an English only PDF pattern. The printed paper pattern is available in another listing.
The Road Trip Wallet, in 2 sizes, features 2 full-length zipper pockets that form the front and back “covers” of this book-like wallet. These covers flip open to reveal a center zipper pouch with an ID Window Pocket, and 2 sections of credit card slot pockets. The small size holds 10 cards, and the large, 16. Use my unique method to create the straightest credit card slots! Draw your card slot lines quickly and precisely with our plastic template, available at emmalinebags.com. Choose from 3 versions of closures to finish off your wallet. Note: Version C works with the large size only because the ID Pocket interferes with the snap in the small size.
This is an "Intermediate to Advanced" sewing pattern with a lot of cutting involved. Use the "speed cutting"method to make things go along quicker!
Small Size: Width - 6 1/2” (16.5 cm) Height – 4.5” (11.5 cm) Depth - 3/4” (19 mm)
Large Size: Width - 8” (20 cm) Height – 4.5” (11.5 cm) Depth - 3/4” (19 mm)
A rotary cutter, mat and gridded ruler, are required to cut pattern pieces. Not all pattern pieces are provided.
Get the Plastic Template! A plastic template ruler to help draw the credit card slots is not necessary, but truly a very helpful tool to make straight and even lines using my NEW credit card slot method. This method makes the straightest card slots! Get the Ruler.

Recommended Machine Needles
You can find our sewing machine needles HERE .
- For faux leather and cork we recommend a Microtex (Sharps) needle in a size 90/14.
- For cotton, canvas & tweed layers that are interfaced with fusible interfacing, we recommend a Jeans/Denim needle.
- Change your needle frequently to avoided thread splits and skipped stitches!
- If you are using a thread heavier than all-purpose thread, or heavy fabric, you may need to upgrade your needle size.
Our Recommended Thread
All of the thread we sell is specifically chosen for bag making. Our thread is all either polyester or nylon to provide extra strength for stressed seams!
You can find our thread range HERE .
- You can use any of the thread we stock for all of the fabric substrates we sell!
- Our favourite threads for bag making are Glide, Affiniity & Premo-soft. These will work well for both seam stitching and topstitching, and can be used on any domestic machine. The Glide and Affinitiy threads offer a beautiful sheen for topstitching and are stronger than all-purpose thread.
- The Strongbond Nylon Tex 70 thread is suited for industrial machine sewing, but can be used in some heavy duty domestic machines.
Product Matching Charts
We have some handy charts to help you match some of our thread and zippers to our more popular fabrics like our faux leather, cork, and waxed canvas.

- The original tutorial post on Fabric.com is no longer available as they have closed their business.
- Since making this toiletry bag 4- 5 more times and using one for travel I decided I liked having a 2nd set of inside pockets on the inside. Cut a 2nd folded pocket and add it to the other panel before adding the zipper pocket to the front.
- I also decided to shorten the handle because I didn't like how much it stuck out.
- I added pull tabs at the end of each zipper that are sewn into the seam where the top zipper panel meets the bottom panel. I made these tabs the same way as I made the handle.
- Finished Dimensions 7’’ tall X 11’’ wide X 4’’ deep
The updated PDF Pattern is for sale in my ETSY Shop

Hi. Where is the tutorial? It says it can be downloaded "here", but I don't see a link to do it. Thank you
Hi Ellen, sorry for the confusion. Just click on the word "HERE" and it will take you to the tutorial that is housed on Fabric.com. Good luck.
Ellen, click on the word HERE (above, in the article) and it will take you to the fabric.come site and directly to the pattern instructions.
Thanks so much for your help
Hi there!! Don't you love a good mystery? Ha ha. So sorry about that. My instructions were complete when I sent them over to fabric.com. My only guess it that there has been a formatting error. I'm working on getting it corrected. In the mean time if you want to email me directly I'll send you a copy of the tutorial, There are too many ?s to explain here in the comments.
Hi there! Can you please email it to me at [email protected] Thanks so much! Looking forward to making this!
It's on it's way. I would love to see it when you're finished. #roadtriptoiletrybag
Love love love this!! I don't see a way to upload my finished bag but would love love love to show it to you!!! Thank you so much!
I would love to get the emailed tutorial, please :). Daffy AT shaw DOT ca Thanks!!!
Hi there, Please email me with a valid email address and I can send it your way.
I would love a corrected emailed version of the patten also, I plan to share it with my Bag Ladies club I lead, I've been searching for a good toiletry bag for summer. Thank you so much! Linda - [email protected]
On it's way!!
Hi Sarah, I just finished my second bag and love it. Question: the patterns calls for ByAnnie's Soft and Stable. Do you know if this is similar to In-R-Form Plus Double Sided Fusible Foam Stabilizer? I just used a Pellon DecoBond as my interfacing as that is all I had in the house. I would also love an emailed version.
Great Marie!! Yes you can use that stabilizer is similar, any fabric covered foam stabilizer will do. There are many copycats of the original ByAnnie's Soft and Stable. Pellon makes Flex Foam. Automotive Headliner fabric will also work even though there is fabric only covering one side of the foam. Email me a photo of your second bag too and I can show it off in my facebook group.
will do! can you email me a good copy of the pattern please is there an easy way to put the bias binding on the seams?? that's the only issue I have. thanks again..... LOVE this bag
Love your bag and thanks for sharing the pattern! Which of the Essex Metallic Linens did you use? It looks like it has such an unusual cast.
Thank you!! The fabric is awesome in real life. It's called Metallic Storm. The link for it is in the post above but here it is too. https://www.fabric.com/buy/0441913/kaufman-essex-yarn-dyed-linen-blend-metallic-storm
Thank you!!!
hey sarah can you please email me the tutorial at [email protected]
Can I please have the updated tutorial sent to my email? Thanks! [email protected]

You are correct! All three cuts should be the same size. I’ve asked them to fix this but they haven’t. I will add a note in this blog post. If you have already cut the exterior strip smaller just make all the strips 3 3/4. It will just make the bag a smidge narrower. No big deal. Sorry for the confusion. Good luck!
Hi, I found this lovely bag and wonder where I can buy the pattern? Best regards Liselotte
I also would like to purchase the pattern, I'd like to make a bag for my son for Christmas.

In this video I'll walk you through the Road Trip Bag. I have lots of ticks and tricks to share! This free video is not a substitute for a pattern. It does ...
This is the Road Trip Shoulder Bag pdf sewing pattern from the designer Susie D Designs. The designer says her sturdy shoulder bag has a stylish finish of coordinated piping around the flap closure and centre panels. The flap is secured with a riveted press-snap. There are two useful interior slip-in pockets and a long shoulder strap, enabling ...
8mm double cap rivets (4-10, per your preference) If making the crossbody strap, will need: (2) 1" D-ring/Triangle Rings, (2) 1" Lobster Clasps, and (1) 1" Adjuster Bar. Finished Roadie size: 11.5" wide x 7.5" high (not including handle straps) with a 3" base. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
Line up all the raw edges at the bottom of each piece as shown. Pin in place. Measure 1 inch from the top of the bag on the Handle piece as shown. This will make room to stitch the Lining and Bag Body together later. Stitch each side of the Handles in place and across your drawn line at the top.
The back also includes a luggage handle to place your Road Trip Bag right over your suitcase handle. Finished Bag: 16"W x 12"H x 8"D. Think GREEN! Think INSTANT!! There are so many great benefits to instant downloadable patterns. PDF sewing patterns save on paper, gas and shipping costs so they're better for the environment and your wallet!!
The Road Tripper Duffle Bag is a great weekend getaway bag. It's surprisingly roomie without being too bulky to lug around. The outside features a zip top and six scoop pockets. There are two handles and a removable shoulder strap. The inside is fully lined with a large divided pocket and a small zippered pocket.. The skill level of this bag is what I would call "eager intermediate".
