The Fearless Safari Dogs of South Africa

THE WOUNDS from his fight with a baboon weren’t fully healed when Bismark charged the Cape buffalo.

We had spent the day trying to split two satellite bulls from the herd. I had been hired to photograph a plains- and dangerous-game safari in South Africa’s northernmost province of Limpopo, and I was shooting through my telephoto lens as one of the bulls broke from cover and charged.

The hunter shot the buff at 40 yards, then again. Bismark, a wire-haired Jack Russell, stood at heel beside his handler, professional hunter Divan Human. I don’t know how many shots were fired—both by the hunter and the PH—as the buffalo thundered to 15 yards, but it wasn’t dying. That’s when Bismark broke heel and tried to ride it.

As a lifelong hunter, I’ve seen bayed bears and treed mountain lions. As a nuisance wildlife professional, I’ve pulled badgers out of holes and I’ve been face to face with rattlesnakes under houses. Nothing compares to that Cape buffalo charge. They’re called “black death” in South Africa, and I get that now. But the heart of a terrier is unmatched, and Bismark was ready to die for us.

Bismark is unshakable, but he’s no one-hit wonder. I saw a dozen blood-tracking dogs while on safari this spring; every one was a Jack Russell. The breed was first developed in Britain for fox hunting, and its prevalence in South Africa today is a byproduct of British colonialism. Although I didn’t see any on my trip, Jagd terriers (“jagd” is German for “hunt”) are also popular among South African outfitters.

The cool thing about terriers is they can do a little bit of everything. I’ve owned Jagds for nearly a decade and they’re integral to my nuisance wildlife business in the Southwest. Although it’s no longer commonplace in the U.S., terriers were originally bred for this work. They excel at finding dead animals, locating live ones, and catching critters. Because of all that tenacity packed into a small body, they also have a tendency to get hurt on the job. (As the Jack Russell Terrier Club of South Africa puts it, the “real Jack Russell terrier does not sit on the sidelines of life.”) While PHs here release their dogs on most game tracks, they don’t allow them to trail warthogs, which are notorious for killing dogs.

When Bismark was younger, one of Human’s clients shot a big Nile crocodile and Bismark broke at the shot. That’s scary because you’re relying on a client to not shoot your dog, but you also don’t want the animal alive enough to kill your dog. Fortunately it was a good hit, but that’s just how it goes with terriers sometimes: You can’t proof a dog until you put him in situations like that. I saw lots of animals harvested in the three weeks I was there, and only now and then would a dog slip up and break at heel.

A standard track looked like this: As soon as the shot went off and the PH released his dog, the trackers would run in and try to keep up. Because we were hunting in such thick cover—50-yard shots were far in some cases—you couldn’t see the live dog 100 yards away, let alone the kudu that was just shot. It was helpful to hear barking so you could locate him.

After a shot the dog was off to the races, and the human tracker was not far behind. And the trackers were incredible. I was skeptical at first. I’ve heard stories of how great they are, but I couldn’t help thinking: I’ve hunted my whole life. How good can these guys really be? What you don’t realize is those trackers hunt year-round except for the rainy season and they track lots of animals every day.

Better yet, the dogs don’t take away from the tracker’s job because often the tracker’s job isn’t just finding downed game—it’s finding live game. South Africans only use their blood dogs for finding animals that have been hit well.

Fortunately, the Cape buffalo was well hit—several times. In the end, the bull slid to a stop just yards from our feet, with Bismark barking on its back.

Poison Dangers. Stagnant water isn’t just a breeding ground for mosquitoes; it can also contain other harmful parasites that can cause gastrointestinal problems for your dog. Pesticides are something else to watch for because these can also be dangerous for your dog to come in contact with. In addition, there are also certain kinds of frogs, snakes, and spiders that can also be poisonous. It is best to learn which of these potentially dangerous animals is prevalent in your area so you can keep an eye out for them and take the necessary precautions to avoid them altogether. Certain plants are also toxic for dogs including azaleas, tulips, lilies, daffodils, and hydrangea, among others. Know which plants are in your yard and if they may be toxic.
Know the Weather. Some dogs cannot tolerate extremely high or low temperatures and can cause issues. You should also talk to your veterinarian about other vaccinations that may benefit your outdoor dog. Above all, make sure they are supervised while outdoors. While it may be tempting to allow them to run around the yard freely, this opens things up to get dangerous very quickly. You run the risk of other animals coming in contact with your dog, and it only takes a few seconds for them to escape. Be aware of your surroundings and keep a watchful eye on them while they play outdoors. The Norwegian Elkhound is a hunting breed that was originally developed for pursuing elk, bear and other formidable prey. An extraordinarily strong dog breed the Elkhound needs the chance to burn off plenty of energy every day.

They thrive best in large, outdoor areas where they can freely roam — just be sure that you keep them leashed or within fenced areas, as they have a tendency to wander.

Male Norwegian Elkhounds typically weigh about 55 pounds, while females weigh a little less.

African Wild Dogs

The African Wild Dog (Lycaon pictus), also known as the African Painted Dog or Cape Hunting Dog, is a unique and fascinating carnivore that is native to Africa. Unfortunately, this remarkable species is currently listed as endangered on the IUCN Red List, with an estimated population of around 6,600 adults, including 1,400 mature individuals, living in 39 subpopulations.

The African Wild Dog population has been declining due to various threats, including habitat fragmentation, human persecution, and outbreaks of diseases such as rabies and distemper. The largest subpopulation probably comprises fewer than 250 individuals, making the African Wild Dog one of the world’s most endangered mammals.

African Wild Dogs are highly adaptable and can be found in a wide range of habitats, including savannahs, grasslands, and woodland areas. They are known to inhabit regions with a mix of open plains and dense cover, which provides them with suitable hunting grounds and shelter.

African Wild Dogs are highly social animals that live in packs, typically consisting of around ten individuals, but some packs may number more than 40. Packs are usually dominated by a monogamous breeding pair, and all pack members participate in hunting and caring for the young. African Wild Dogs have a unique and complex social structure, with strong bonds between pack members.

The size of an African Wild Dog pack can vary widely, ranging from just a few individuals to over 20. On average, packs consist of 6 to 20 members.

These canids use a combination of vocalizations, body language, and scent marking to communicate. Their vocalizations include whistles, chirps, and growls, each serving a specific purpose within the pack.

While they share a common ancestry, African Wild Dogs have evolved separately from domestic dogs for millions of years. They have distinct physical characteristics, such as large rounded ears, and a unique coat pattern. Behaviorally, they are wild animals with different social structures and hunting techniques.

While sightings are not guaranteed due to their wide-ranging nature, it’s best to visit areas where they are most concentrated such as the Kruger National Park or the Okavango Delta.

10 Best Places To See Wild Dog on Safari

Patrick has been an Africa travel specialist, based in Australia, for over 10 years and prior to that was a safari operator in Mana Pools in Zimbabwe.

It’s not easy to see wild dogs on safari. The African wild dog (or painted dog) needs extensive areas in which to roam. This, combined with its susceptibility to a range of diseases, including canine distemper and rabies (transmitted by domestic dogs), means it is found only in a limited number of safari destinations.

It is only during the denning season (May to September in southern Africa but earlier in East Africa) that wild dogs are forced to remain in one area for any length of time. We must emphasize that in none of the locations listed below, are wild dogs a guaranteed sighting. These are very unpredictable predators that can move vast distances at a moment’s notice (and for no apparent reason). As a result, wild dog sightings are rather special occurrences. Here are the top ten places where you will likely spot one (or more).

1. Nyerere (Selous) National Park and Ruaha National Park, Tanzania

Both of these southern Tanzanian parks have for many years been excellent venues for die-hard wild dog fans and offer excellent sightings on a regular basis.

2. Okavango Delta, Savuti and Linyanti, Kwando and Selinda Concessions in Northern Botswana

This extensive region of northern Botswana has one of the most significant populations of wild dog on the continent and offers excellent sightings. The concessions of Chitabe and Qorokwe are also gaining a reputation for wild dog sightings.

3. Hwange National Park, Zimbabwe

Hwange is Zimbabwe’s largest national park and ideal habitat for wild dogs. It’s a great park to see wild dog on safari. This is also the home of the long-running Painted Dog Conservation (PDC) project, which aims to protect, rehabilitate and reintroduce wild dog packs into the wild. Its Interpretive Hall and Walkway not far outside the gate near Main Camp is interesting and well worth a visit.

4. Luangwa Valley, Zambia

This has long been a reliable region for wild dogs, with regular sightings in South Luangwa NP . The wild dog population in North Luangwa NP is also recovering after years of persecution and disease.

5. Madikwe Game Reserve, South Africa

The land where Madikwe now stands was used for farming. The poor soil meant that farming was mostly unsuccessful and the South African government then decided that it would best be used as a national park to help economically uplift this disadvantaged area.

Madikwe is malaria-free, home to the Big Five (lion, leopard, buffalo, elephant and rhino) and caters well for families. Wild dogs were introduced into the park in 1994 and have subsequently thrived, despite many challenges. Since Madikwe is a fenced reserve, the wild dog packs are not able to leave it, and sightings are regular.

6. Mana Pools National Park, Zimbabwe and Lower Zambezi National Park, Zambia

These two parks lie on opposite sides of the Zambezi downriver of Kariba Dam. Every year wild dogs den in and around Mana Pools NP and provide visitors with regular and exciting sightings through the safari season (May through November). After several years’ absence, wild dogs are also now regularly seen in Lower Zambezi , which lies within the range of several large packs.

This is the only region in Kenya where wild dogs have been seen regularly in recent times, and where packs have denned consistently.

8. Kruger National Park, South Africa (Including Sabi Sand Game Reserve and Timbavati Nature Reserve)

Although never a regular sighting within the park itself, or in any one of the private game reserves surrounding the park, wild dogs are nevertheless widespread in the region.

With district colourations, their dappled coat mixed with irregular patterns of reddish-browns, black, white and tan make them easily distinguishable… in fact, their scientific name Lycaon pictus literally translated as ‘painted wolf’. Every wild dog’s coat is unique with colours and patterns varying immensely, making it fairly easy to recognise individuals.

Experience snow capped mountains, migrating caribou, and shimmering spring aurora on this incredible Arctic adventure.

Explore the tundra and creek valleys surrounding our Arctic camp, situated just outside Gates of the Arctic National Park and Preserve. Play in the shadows of the rugged Brooks Range mountains and search for dropped caribou antlers on our daily forays into and around the Park. If we are lucky, the sun will shine bright late into the evening, inviting long lunches with warm afternoon naps on the sleds, and fresh outdoor dinners with sunglasses still needed. After sundown, watch the aurora swirl through the late evening twilight, dancing in the giant Arctic sky.

11:00 AM / 7 days a week is Pick Up/ Drop off at the Safari Ranch. We encourage you to visit us on the first drop off visit so you are familiar with where your dog is vacationing.
We also offer pick up/drop off AT YOUR HOME. Cost is $100 per trip for up to 30 miles from our ranch in Aubrey TX. Additional fee of $1.50 added per mile after the first 30 miles.

No toxic chemicals are used in our play yards. You can trust your dog is playing on healthy soil!
Kennel owner Alicia lives in the house next door to the kennel. Additional staff come in to clean and play with your dog. But, Alicia and her family are the main caregivers and oversee the kennel.
We only allow dog-friendly and trustworthy dogs to play in groups. If your dog is not a fan of the rowdy young dogs, no problem! We have private play yards, plus a yard for small dogs and senior dogs.
We cater to Retrievers, Doodles and pack-social friendly dog breeds.

We support minimal vaccines. Dogs need rabies every 3 years. AND Only one vaccine of Distemper/Parvo after 1 year of age. We also accept titers test for rabies /parvo / distemper.
We suggest your dog have some form of flea/tick prevention, but it is not required.
Intact dog? Great. We are pro-intact dogs and are very familiar with managing play groups of intact dogs.
Sending your dog’s raw / fresh food? Great! Please put all food and supplements in daily portions. We can freeze, refrigerate, thaw or warm as directed. We can not cook the food.
We can feed your dog our raw diet. $5/day for dogs 30 lbs or less. $8/day dogs over 30 lbs. Our raw diet is mainly rotating between beef / lamb / chicken. We also feed eggs, sardines, liver, other organ meats, Dr Harvey’s Raw Vibrance OR our veggie gut health mix.
Doodles and other long hair breeds need to be 1” or less on the body. Dogs play hard in the dirt/mud and get very dirty here. It’s a lot of fun for the dogs, but that long hair is a nightmare to clean after. We are not groomers and do not brush or trim dogs. Please send your long hair dog in a short cut so he can enjoy the ranch!
We can provide a dog cot for your dog to sleep on. You may also bring your own dog bed…. But… often dogs chew up their beds, and for sure your bed will get dirty from all the dirt/ mud your dog is playing in.

Safari Dogs Ranch

Who is Alicia, owner of Safari Dogs Ranch?

I’m Alicia Dawn, and I love and train all types of animals. Two of my favorite pets right now are my zebra, Evie, and sheep Shawn. I had a skunk, Glade, and a wide variety of types of animals in my life.

Species I’ve tamed, raised and trained:

Hairless breeds of dogs: Chinese Cresteds & Peruvian Inca Orchids

Dogs: I’ve owned, fostered, trained and lived with nearly every breed of dog, including many very rare breeds.

Geese (my favorite bird to train)

Chickens (my least favorite bird)

Wolves (small percentage of dog in them)

I started training animals as a child. My first one was a feral kitten, Miss Moppet, who became my first pet. For my 9th birthday, my parents got me (what was rare back then) a Golden Retriever puppy. Princess was my first animal to formally train and compete with. I got her CD and later CDX legs. As a teen I trained and showed horses, rabbits, geese, chickens, more Golden Retrievers in Obedience, and became the local area group class obedience instructor at 15. After that I was busy with client dogs for private lessons and board & trains. My life has only continued to expand on this theme.

I became very competitive in Border Collies & Chinese Cresteds. My many National championships and one world championship are with these breeds.

I was one of the main importers and BOD for the Peruvian Inca Orchids in the USA. I did Schutzhund with German Shepherds & one Border Collie.

I paired with my good friend Brent Brooks to train service dogs. Together we (under the wisdom and guidance of Debby Kay) figured out a good method for how train Diabetic Alert Dogs. Brent & I and the many volunteers stayed busy for years producing DAD dogs in Texas.

My line of Golden Retrievers has continued with 2 varieties. One is my Hunting line that I share with my good friend Randy. And second, my European genetics cream Goldens that are my pet/show/service dog line.

Today I take things slower and rarely produce puppies, rarely go to a dog show (my dogs are still out competing) and prefer to stay home. My focus is pet obedience training for the public and boarding client dogs at my home. I live near Denton Texas on 15 acres. My current hobby that I spend time on is dancing and teaching dance.

My kennel has 10 indoor/outdoor runs and I usually have 10-20 dogs staying with me. I have multiple helpers who spend time with the dogs so that the kennel stays clean, the dogs get plenty of play time, and everything is orderly. I feed my dogs a raw diet and minimal vaccines. I support clients with a more holistic outlook.

Moscow parks – leisure, nature and historical

Moscow is the most green megapolis in the world. There are over a hundred parks and green spaces like gardens, squares and boulevards. You will definitely bump into a few of them wherever you go. Whether you are interested in memorial, historic parks, parks of wildlife or you just want to have a calm break from the speedy city life – city parks have something special for everyone.

Moscow leisure parks

The leisure Moscow parks are undoubtedly the most popular and famous with the locals and travelers. Today such parks provide a great number of exciting entertainments for Muscovites and city guests, adults and children.

The Gorky Park

Gorky Park opened in 1928 and was the first holiday park in the Soviet Union with playgrounds, a sports stadium, exhibition halls and attractions for kids. Today it has a fresh, vibrant appearance. The park features bike rental stations, a comfortable business area with Wi-Fi, an outdoor movie theatre and a greenhouse where you can buy fresh greens such as basil and lettuce. To contemplate the sky and the stars, go to the observatory and look through the telescope while listening to fascinating stories from astronomers. Enjoy many sports in the park: volleyball, handball, football or a peaceful jog around the beautiful surroundings.

Zaryadye Park

Opened in September 2017, Zaryadye is the youngest on our list. Located just a few minutes away from Red Square, it includes various activities like the floating bridge with its thin V-form extension, an ice cave, also concert hall and an amphitheater. The entire territory of the park was divided into four zones of Russia: forest, steppe, tundra, and the floodplains.

Neskuchny Sad

By walking along the Moskva River’s bank from the Gorky Park towards Vorobievy Gory (Sparrow Hills) you’ll reach Neskuchny Sad («Not Boring» garden), a wonderful place in the Moscow center, one of Moscow’s oldest parks, charming slice of wildlife. The park mostly consists of pristine forest, dotted with old summer pavilions, ponds and quaint little stone bridges. There are a lot of opportunities for different activities lots of children playground, a ping-pong and chess clubs, football fields and tennis courts, horse riding, tree climbing and having rest in one of the nice cafes.

Museon Park

Hermitage Garden

Hermitage Garden has always been known as an amusement, entertainment center with theatres, shows, cafes, summer pavilions, pergolas since 1830. Shalyapin, Sobinov, Nezhdanova – great Russian opera singers starred on the garden stage. Famous Russian composer Rakhmaninov conducted the orchestra. Sara Bernar, Maria Yermolova, outstanding actresses, played in the open air performances. Tolstoy and Lenin had a stroll in the garden. So lots of celebrities from different epoques liked it a lot and spent their time in Hermitage Garden. You can find here three theatres in the garden: Hermitage, Sphere and New Opera. During winter an ice rink works here and in summer a musical stage is assembled to host jazz and brass band festivals.

In Sokolniki Park visitors can play billiard, chess or draughts, table tennis, as well as go cycling, roller blading and swimming in the summer and ice skating or skiing in winter. Each season is highlighted by special memorable and bright events, for example, Summer Jazz Festival or Baby Fest (for future mums), open air beach disco parties, Ice Cream Day, International Clown Festival and many other shows and exhibitions. The park has an observatory, kids center and a co-working zone with free Wi-Fi which is really nice for spending high quality work time there.

Moscow nature parks

The nature parks are national reserves with the amazing forestry and incredible variety of animals and plants there. The breath of wildlife and the chance to be closer to the virgin nature excites both children and grownups. Hundreds of different species of animals can be found in Moscow nature parks. The richest woodlands with old and even ancient trees, like a 200 years pine-tree in the Elk Island National Nature Park, are the point of passionate interest for visitors.

Aptekarsky Ogorod

Aptekarsky Ogorod (Apothecary Garden)

Aptekarsky Ogorod (Apothecary Garden) is one of the oldest gardens in Moscow. It was founded in the XVIII century by Peter the First (great Russian emperor). A larch that he planted himself still grows in the garden, so it’s more than 250 years old. At the time of its foundation, it was a garden with herbs and medicinal plants and was used as an educational center for doctors. Today there are the orangery with its tropical palms, the carp pond, and the immense trees that dot the landscape and turn wonderful golden shades in the autumn. Several restaurants and cafes work here making it a very nice spot for relaxation no matter what season it is. You can book a special tour or join the guided excursion group.

Losiny Ostrov

Losiny Ostrov (Elk Island Park)

Losiny Ostrov (Elk Island Park) is located at the north of Moscow. It covers 22 km from the west to the east and 10 km from the north to the south and it’s one of the most beautiful national parks in Moscow. Two rivers, Yausa and Pechorka begin here. You can find lots of fields, ponds, meadows, streams in the park as well as elks. Here you can enjoy guided tours, available in English. You can choose a guided tour about flora and fauna of the area, you’ll learn why elks are there, which animals are their neighbors. Or enjoy another excursion, which is totally devoted to historical past of ancient tribes once lived there, you’ll know about old Russian mythology, rituals and traditions.

Serebyany Bor

Serebyany Bor (Silver Forest)

Serebyany Bor (Silver Forest) is a famous pine forest in the west of Moscow. The park has 230 forms of plant life, and is also home to watersports complex, providing a lot of activities for visitors. The layout of Serebryany Bor is unusual, as it is located on an artificial island between a meander in the Moscow River and a channel. There is an artificial lake, the Deep Gulf and picturesque Bezdonnoe (Bottomless) Lake in the depths of the forest. Serebryany Bor’s beaches are the cleanest in the city and very popular among Muscovites. On weekends it is difficult to find a free spot here, especially because a whole range of services are offered to visitors, from simple deckchairs to catamaran and yacht rides. Driving is prohibited on the territory of the island so be ready to use trolleybus to reach the entrance.

Botanichesky Sad

Greenhouse of Botanical Garden

Main Botanical Garden of The Russian Academy of Sciences is the largest and most famous is Moscow. The garden is a real museum of nature with a very rich (more than 18000 types) collection of plants. The park was founded in 1945 at the place of the 17th century Apothecaries’ Gardens. The garden’s collection is turned into botanical expositions, made with use of modern receptions of landscape architecture. Here you can see a tree nursery, a shadow garden, hothouse complex, collection of flowers, a rosary, exposition of coastal plants, garden of continuous blossoming, Japanese garden and expositions of cultural plants and natural flora plants. The biggest part of Garden is the Tree nursery occupying the space of 75 hectares. About 2 thousand wood plants grow here. Another big exposition of the Garden is nature Flora, divided into six botanic-geographical collections: European part of Russia, Caucuses, Central Asia, Siberia and Far East. Pride of the Main Botanical Garden is the collection of tropical, coastal and water plants, which is considered as the best in Europe. The Japanese garden, a great model of Japanese landscape gardening art has a 13-level stone pagoda of the 18th century, stone Japanese lamps, ponds, falls and streams, tea lodges and more than 100 species of the most character Japan plants. It is especially decorative in spring, during Oriental cherry blossoming and in fall, when foliage blazes in crimson colors.

Moscow historic parks

Historic nature parks and estates once were the mansions of the Moscow aristocracy. At that far times the estates were outside the Moscow city limits, but after the city expansion and urbanization, they became easily accessible.

Kolomenskoye

Kolomenskoye Museum and Park

The chief attraction of the park is undoubtedly the stone Church of the Ascension of the Lord. It was constructed in 1532 by order of Tsar Vasily III to commemorate the birth of his son and heir, Ivan the Terrible. But there is a lot more to see in the park: the pretty Church of the Icon of Our Lady of Kazan – with its bright azure domes and plenty of gold. Further into the park there is a charming Church of the Beheading of St John the Baptist, built by Ivan the Terrible to mark his coronation.

Kuskovo Park

Kuskovo Park is one of the oldest country estates in Moscow. It was given to General Sheremetev by Peter the Great in 1715, but was left to fall into neglect before being plundered by Napoleon’s troops in 1812. Nowadays the estate has been restored to its former glory and is a good example of Russian 18th Century imperial architecture. The palace is a fine and rare example of wooden neoclassicism. It was completed in 1775, and the rich interiors remain unchanged since 1779. It includes a room hung with exclusive exquisite Flemish tapestries, an abundance of silk wallpaper and an impressive collection of 18th century European and Russian paintings. The palace looks onto the lake, which is surrounded by smaller pavilions: pretty Italian, Dutch and Swiss Cottages, Blank’s Hermitage and the old Orangery, where the State Ceramics Museum is located now, an extensive and absorbing collection of porcelain from the 18th century to the present day. On the other side of the lake is a large wood popular with local cyclists and joggers.

Dog Boarding

Camp Safari Boarding Kennel is a temperature controlled indoor kennel with outdoor runs. Every dog is allowed outside play areas and runs to do their business when the weather allows. Safari has state of the art air circulation and cleaning facilities designed to reduce stress and disease in boarded pets in League City .

Spacious runs and double runs are available depending on your pet family needs.Each run has a separate theme designed by local artists, from the casino gambler to the tennis player or even fishing or hunting. Every pet has a padded pet bed elevated off the floor for comfort and hygiene.

In addition, we have Sunday pick up and drop off for your family convenience. Our offices open at 12:00 noon on Sunday. Your pet will return home bright and refreshed from staying at Camp Safari.

Cat Boarding

We also offer separate cat boarding as well, in a custom decorated quiet room with access to our unique play area for cats only. This CAT-a-comb is a wood maze of interconnecting spaces designed to captivate your kitty as they play for hours.

The cat cubby room is decorated with images of cats on vacation to London, Paris, Hawaii and even Moscow.

While you are away your cats will relish the FAUX dining on canary cake and mouse trap pie.

Vaccination policies for Dogs and Cats

Vaccines are a point of great controversy now. Because the Feline Veterinary Health organizations have issued their recommendations of three-year vaccinations instead of the traditional yearly vaccines, many practitioners are in a quandary as to how to respond.

3 Year versus Annual

It must also be evident “what is good for the pet” is highest in the mind when administering a vaccination policy. Most clients will have heard that 3-year vaccines are recommended. Even though a pet needs vaccines only every three years, the value of the bi-annual or annual physical examinations cannot be lost.

Vaccine Titer testing

This is an alternative to vaccinating. Titers will tell the level of protection that a pet has. Only animals with a low titer need vaccination. Some clients prefer to do titer tests in order to avoid over vaccination. In-house kits are now available for distemper and parvo vaccines.

Annual for Rabies is still mandatory in many states including Texas.

DOGS – Boarding, Grooming, Hospitalization Vaccination Requirements **

Pet Boarding Tips

If you haven’t done so already, make sure we have your pet’s current vaccine records. They can be brought in at check-in or can be sent by email prior to your check in to [email protected] . Please make sure the email has the pet’s name and your last name in the subject line of the email. You can set up your online account and boarding reservations at http://wellness.safarivet.com from there you can manage your boarding appointments and check your pet’s health status and medication details during the boarding period.
We encourage you to take your leash and collar back home with you returning with them at check-out time (unless someone else is picking your pet up).
