Forsaking Vancouver, Skinny Puppy announces its final tour with no plans to play its hometown
Vancouver’s Skinny Puppy has announced its final tour, with a series of 40th anniversary shows starting in San Antonio on April 6 and then concluding on May 9. No Vancouver date are included in the group’s Instagram post detailing the “Final Tour”, but don’t give up hope. After all, running across the top of the post are the words “When nothing is true, anything is possible.”
First coming together in 1982 in Vancouver, the group helped draw up an industrial-electro-noise template that influenced everyone from Nine Inch Nails to Ministry to every second band ever signed to Chicago’s Wax Trax! records.
Over the course of the career that saw it disband in 1996 and the reform in 2203, Skinny Puppy released 13 albums, with cEvin Key and Nivek Orge the group’s two longtime members.
During that time the group produced some of the most important—and quite frankly fucking terrifying—music to ever land under in the industrial/alternative records bins of your favourite record store. And its assaultively innovative legacy only starts with “Tin Omen” and “Assimilate”.
How influential is the band? Oscar winner Trent Reznor once described his first Nine Inch Nails single, “Down In It” as a “total rip-off” of Skinny Puppy’s “Dig It”. (One of the earliest versions of NIN toured with the group as the opening act in the late ’80s). And Vancouver-raised Grimes has called Skinny Puppy one of most important bands of her life.
While Skinny Puppy hasn’t included Vancouver on what it’s dubbing “Final Tour” there are dates in Montreal and Toronto.
Here’s "Tin Omen". Crank it, but not until you’ve put flack jackets on everyone in the house, including the dog.

Skinny Puppy announces 12 more North American dates this fall to close out “final tour”
Legendary industrial act Skinny Puppy has extended what it’s billing as its “final tour,” adding 12 more North American concerts this fall as the group continues to celebrate its 40th anniversary.
“We have added more special markets to help close out our final tour,” Skinny Puppy wrote on Facebook .
The new run of shows — which follows a 24-date North American tour earlier this year — opens Nov. 8 in Dallas and continues through Dec. 5 in Los Angeles, with two nights apiece set for Chicago, Vancouver and Los Angeles. There are a variety of presales underway now or starting later today, with the general on-sale set for 10 a.m. local time Friday, July 28. Head over to skinnypuppy.com for full details.
Formed in Vancouver in 1982, Skinny Puppy — anchored by cEvin Key and Nivek Ogre — has been hailed as a cornerstone act in the industrial and electro-industrial genres.
The group’s 12th, and most recent, album, Weapon , was released in 2013.
