A traditional seven-night safari visiting Samburu, home to unique wildlife, followed by the Rift Valley Lakes. This itinerary starts in the Aberdares Range followed by Samburu, home to some of the most unique wildlife in Kenya and a host of birds. Your stay is at the deluxe Ashnil Samburu Camp, spread out along the shady banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River, under a thick stand of doum palms and acacia trees that are a feature of the area.
Day 1 Monday Aberdares
Day 2 tuesday samburu, day 3 wednesday samburu, day 4 thursday aberdares, day 5 friday lake nakuru/naivasha, day 6 saturday masai mara, day 7 sunday masai mara, day 8 monday depart, ashnil samburu camp.
Set south of Ewaso Nyiro River, in Buffalo Springs Game Reserve, Samburu; a stay here gives you unrivalled access to game viewing.
The waters of the great Ewaso Nyiro River draw wildlife in great numbers to its banks, creating an oasis of green. This is spectacular country, set against a backdrop of the mighty Mount Ol Olokwe.
Samburu is visited by large herds of elephants, drawn by the promise of water. In the dry season the elephants use their tusks to dig deep into the dry river beds, unearthing precious water. These waterholes then become a focal point for other game. The Samburu region is the best place to find several endemic northern species, including gerenuk, the reticulated giraffe and Grevy’s zebra

Kilimanjaro dominates Tanzanian tourism as much as it does the skyline. Africa's highest mountain is a phenomenal sight and a demanding climb. Look beyond its shadow though and you will be rewarded with a UNESCO World Heritage site, plains dense with predators and rich with ancient human history.
Rewards perhaps don't come bigger than the Serengeti. The boundless grassland of Tanzania's oldest National Park is home to lions, cheetahs and leopards, and it's so expansive that to witness a predator in action is often the preserve of your jeep alone.
Among their prey are the gazelles, zebras and some 1.5 million wildebeest, which rove the desert for grass to graze. Following the calving season, this mass of hooves ascends north into Kenya. This spectacle is known as the Great Migration and is considered to be one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.
Predators are not in short supply either, and the UNESCO honoured Ngorongoro Crater boasts the densest population of lions on the planet. The Conservation Park is also home to the 'Big Five'.

Discover Kenya with Somak Safaris
DMC Kenya - Somak Safari is one of the best and most reliable Destination Management Companies in Kenya. Kenya is Africa's original safari destination, attracting explorers, adventurers and travellers for many centuries. If you have a chance to see a migration of wildebeests in the Masai Mara, it will be an experience of a lifetime. To see a herd of thousands and thousands of wildebeest cross the river who have gathered together at a river bank together with zebras, is incredibly moving and exciting. Kenya is also known for its most magnificent wildlife parks, white sandy beaches, coral reefs, memorable mountain landscapes and ancient Swahili cities. You will still find the landscape dotted with Masai villages, where the way of life has not changed much for centuries.

Has anyone done the cheetah safari with Somak as we are trying to decide between them and Virgin?
Somak have an excellent reputation .....
We’ve done a number of safaris with Somak and others have said they are certainly good on the ground.
I’d still book with them again.
We used somak in Jan this year, we did the samburu safari and it was awesome but then again we had an awesome guide John Kinzi. Looking at the Cheetah safari its look similars but with different lodges. Samburu was awesome, we saw a cheetah with a kill and stayed in a lodge on the river. Really enjoyed Nakuru, better than i thought despite lack of flamingos but the pride of lions we saw more than made up for it.
The mara was great, saw so many lions, no cheetah but a lovely leopard up a tree with a kill. Will post some pics when i get round to it.
However we are getting married in kenya in jan 2011 and will once again use somak.
Hope that helps.
Thank you everyone for your comments, it has reassured me and I will feel confident booking with them now. Good luck for your wedding luv2travsuff.
thanks, have a great trip when you go!
We booked & travelled with SOMAK in Sep 2008, they were fantastic!
We did the Masai Safari which was amazing, and we tailor made on own itinerary to Mombassa and then onto Victoria Falls.
The whole trip was fabulous, we would recommend SOMAK 100%.
We did the Masai safari in October this year and they were brilliant. We were really well looked after by the staff at Somak House, where we had a fish and chip lunch and they organise your transfer back to the airport to our wonderful driver and guide Edward. I recommend them 100% and wold have no hesitation in using them again.
