Star Tours – The Adventures Continue (also unofficially known as Star Tours 3-D, Star Tours 2, or Star Wars: Episode III.V ) is a 3D motion simulator attraction located at Disney's Hollywood Studios , Disneyland , Tokyo Disneyland , and Disneyland Park (Paris) . Set in the fictional Star Wars universe Star Tours – The Adventures Continue takes guests on a turbulent excursion trip across the galaxy, as droids C-3PO and R2-D2 attempt to safely return a rebel spy to the Rebel Alliance .

The Adventures Continue features locations and characters from throughout the Skywalker Saga, unlike its predecessor , which took place shortly after the original trilogy. The attraction opened on May 20, 2011 at Disney's Hollywood Studios, on June 3, 2011 at Disneyland, and on May 7, 2013 at Tokyo Disneyland. [2] [3] The ride opened at Disneyland Park (Paris) on March 26, 2017, as part of its 25th-anniversary celebration. [4]

With the release of the sequel trilogy , scenes from The Force Awakens , The Last Jedi , and The Rise of Skywalker have been added in 2015 , 2017 , and 2019 .

Opening Crawl [ ]

In tradition with most Star Wars productions, the attraction was presented with an opening crawl during the inaugural ceremony at Disney's Hollywood Studios on May 20th, 2011. It reads as follows:

Episode III.V

It has been a long time since the end of the Clone Wars , and the evil Sith Lord Darth Vader continues to tighten his grip on the Empire as the galaxy moves closer to the brink of a great civil war.

A new intergalactic spaceline, Star Tours, seeks to preserve unrestricted intergalactic travel in this age of tyranny. Freedom fighter Captain Raymus Antilles has assigned two droids, C-3PO and R2-D2, to help launch the spaceline, fueling Imperial suspicion that Star Tours is part of the Rebel Alliance .

Star Tours is about to open its first intergalactic space terminal in the Earth System as rumors of a fearsome weapon of mass destruction dash all hope for peace and freedom in the galaxy ...

Development [ ]

Star Tours was always intended to receive occasional updates, though various factors would serve to delay the project. The first proper development on a Star Tours II began in 1997 when George Lucas invited Imagineer Tom Fitzgerald to Skywalker Ranch and showed him the Pod Race sequence of the in-development Episode I: The Phantom Menace , suggesting it would be the perfect material for an updated Star Tours attraction.

Imagineers developed an attraction concept with a pod race as its centerpiece but held off on it to wait and see what the other prequels could offer. With a branching storyline in mind, Fitzgerald went to Fox Studios Australia in 2003 during the filming of Revenge of the Sith to pitch the multi-branching storyline to George, quickly getting his approval to move forward. Work proper finally began in 2007 with Fitzgerald and other Imagineers regularly visiting Skywalker Ranch to show them their progress.

StarTours

At the inaugural D23 Expo in Anaheim , California , on September 12 , 2009 , Jay Rasulo and Darth Vader (voiced in this instance by Fred Tatasciore ) [5] [6] announced that Disneyland's Star Tours attraction would be closing in October 2010 to make way for an updated version featuring new worlds from the first two triologies, which opened in 2011 . Tatooine was the first of the new destinations revealed, showing a sample of the Pod Racing sequence. Even in this early draft, RX-24 (Rex) was still supposed to be part of the experience instead of C-3PO.

Attraction [ ]

Since the attraction takes place in an earlier timeframe than its predecessor, this Star Tours travel agency utilizes AC-series pilot droids and, therefore, RX-series pilot droid Captain Rex is not the ship's pilot (instead of appearing in the queue as a defective prototype droid). Additionally, Endor is not currently a destination. Through a series of mistakes, though, the AC-series pilot droid does not appear as the ship's pilot either, as the aerophobic C-3PO is forced to pilot the Starspeeder 1000 himself.

Characters that make appearances in the attraction include C-3PO , R2-D2 , Darth Vader , Stormtroopers , Boba Fett , Yoda , Leia Organa , Admiral Ackbar , Chewbacca , Han Solo , [Sebulba], Jar Jar Binks , Mon Mothma , and new characters, such as AC-38 , Aly San San , and Imperial sky troopers.

The exteriors of the Star Tours attractions are different in their respective parks. The attraction in Florida is inspired by an Ewok village on the forest moon of Endor whereas the California, Paris and Tokyo versions are modeled after a Tomorrowland -esque spaceport.

Backstory [ ]

According to the opening crawl that preceded the attraction's inaugural opening, after the Dark Times began, Captain Antilles had dispatched C-3PO and R2-D2, who was placed in the custody of Antilles by order of Bail Organa near the end of Revenge of the Sith , to assist in the inauguration of the spaceline. The seemingly close relationship between the Rebel Alliance and the Star Tours agency caused the Galactic Empire to believe that both entities were in a partnership and has since monitored the agency's actions over the years.

Similar to the functionality of the previous attraction, Star Tours: The Adventures Continue places guests in the role of space tourists en route to a predetermined destination. The queue is designed to resemble a spaceport terminal: posters advertise trips to different planets and a large LCD screen informs riders of the benefits of booking flights with Star Tours. The screen displays information in spoken basic language and Aurebesh . The queue is populated with Audio-Animatronic characters, including C-3PO, R2-D2, and two Mon Calamari officers, that interact with one another and to the guests.

Entering the cargo bay, RX-24 from the original attraction can be found, who, following the timeline, has not been used yet and is, therefore, being sent back to a factory as defective. He occasionally has power surges and delivers lines from the original attraction. Two G2 droids interact with guests as they conduct their tasks. The more outspoken droid processing the passengers' luggage on a scanning system reveals the luggage's contents to the guests waiting in the queue. Many references, gags, and in-jokes are made via the contents of the luggage. Guests then retrieve their 3-D "flight glasses" and are directed by a Star Tours crew member to one of three concourses where they wait to board.

Pre-show [ ]

Television monitors show C-3PO, who has been assigned to maintenance on the StarSpeeder that the guests are about to board, inadvertently getting trapped in the cockpit. Following this, Aly San San presents an instructional video (reminiscent of the original) to the guests on how to fasten their seat belts and where to place their belongings followed by the Disney Parks daily safety spiel in English and Spanish. Once the doors to the Starspeeder 1000 open, guests enter the ride simulator. After the doors close, C-3PO complains to R2-D2 about the misunderstanding but is ignored when the StarSpeeder begins to take flight.

The attraction currently features 66 different ride experiences, including several different planets from the Star Wars universe such as Coruscant and Tatooine . With The Adventures Continue serving as a prequel to the original Star Tours rather than a sequel, guests board StarSpeeder 1000 spacecraft simulators, forerunners to the StarSpeeder 3000 simulators found in the original attraction. The ride experience has a branching narrative with the system having control over its random sequencing, rather than the participants. This gives Star Tours the advantage of being both highly repeatable and constantly surprising.

Even though guests can experience 66 different journeys, the main priority (delivering the Rebel Spy to safety) is accomplished no matter what the sequence is. The Rebel spy's identity is chosen by the cast member operating the ride vehicle from among the guests on the attraction and their picture is presented during the ride. When referring to the spy, characters will alter their dialogue depending on the gender of the person chosen as the spy (him, her or them). Sometimes, no guest is chosen as the Rebel spy and a generic photo is used.

There are twenty-two (originally eleven) random segments of the film (five introductions, five "detours", seven hologram transmissions and five finales).

The Starspeeder 1000 takes off, although C-3PO protests that he is not the captain. As the ship is about to leave the Star Tours terminal, one of two scenes will occur:

  • Starting from 'Season Of The Force', in some of the rides, one of the four skytroopers is occasionally replaced by Boba Fett .
  • As part of the 2017 The Last Jedi update, a Kylo Ren version of the intro was added.
  • As part of the 2017 The Last Jedi update, a variation featuring the First Order 's stormtroopers was introduced, along with a modernized version of the Falcon with the rectangular sensor dish.

After jumping into lightspeed , one of five scenarios occurs:

  • The Starspeeder almost crashes on Hoth amid a battle between Rebels and Imperial AT-ATs . After entering the combat zone against orders, an AT-AT fires at the StarSpeeder and the ship crashes into the snow, teetering on the edge of a cliff. The ship falls over the side and rides the canyon like a luge, launching off another cliff and free-falling into a deep canyon. Seemingly at the last second, R2-D2 re-engages the engines and the StarSpeeder rockets back into space.
  • The StarSpeeder reaches Tatooine , where it ends up taking part in the Boonta Eve Podrace, along with Sebulba. The StarSpeeder collides with a podracer and the two become stuck together. The race concludes with the podracer-enhanced StarSpeeder overtaking Sebulba, then jettisoning the podracer and flying back into space, almost hitting the crowd of spectators.
  • The StarSpeeder lands on Kashyyyk as Imperial jet speeders pursue Chewbacca and another Wookiee on a speeder bike through the lush forest. At one point, Chewbacca falls off from the back of the speeder bike and hits the StarSpeeder's windshield before sliding off, temporarily leaving paw prints behind.
  • The Starspeeder finds itself on Jakku, where it encounters the Millennium Falcon being chased by First Order TIE fighters. Finn appears on the screen at the Falcon 's turrets, questioning what the ship is doing there, but advises they stay low to confuse the TIE's trackers and to use their shield. The ship then crashes into the wreckage of a Star Destroyer, where Scavengers can rip some of the platings from the ship before heading back to space. As part of the 2017 The Last Jedi update, this sequence is now exclusively assigned to other Sequel Trilogy content to create a more cohesive experience.
  • In another Sequel Era option, the StarSpeeder travels to the Endor system, flying past the forest moon of Endor (with C-3PO exclaiming “We just passed the Endor moon!”, a quote from the original attraction) and landing on the ocean moon of Kef Bir. Floating on the ocean waves through the wreckage of the second Death Star and other Battle of Endor debris, the StarSpeeder encounters a school of dianoga that attacks the ship. After escaping the squids and fixing the engines, the ship heads back into space.

Upon returning to space, a hologram transmission from either Admiral Ackbar , Leia Organa , Yoda , BB-8 , Poe Dameron , Maz Kanata , or Lando Calrissian confirms that there is a Rebel Spy on board and sends coordinates to R2-D2 on where to deliver the spy.

Despite C-3PO's protests, R2-D2 takes the speeder to one of five other scenarios:

  • The StarSpeeder arrives in the upper atmosphere of a besieged Coruscant , where the last forces of the Confederacy of Independent Systems battle the Army of the Republic's Clone Troopers . Buzz droids are projected at the StarSpeeder, which attach themselves to the windshield, but R2 uses an electric shock to blast them off after the buzz droids have caused severe damage to the stabilizers. The StarSpeeder then plummets through the planet's atmosphere and into the bustling sky traffic of the city-planet. After several near misses, the StarSpeeder careens to a halt on a landing platform, nearly hitting a fuel tanker (a model seen in the original Star Tours) before crashing into a traffic control droid.
  • In Season Of The Force, a secondary version of Naboo is shown. In the second version, Jar-Jar does hit against the windshield, and rather than the tail shattering the windshield in the hangar, it gently bounces on the screen and breaks off, with an angry Pit Droid throwing a bucket of yellow paint onto the windshield.
  • The StarSpeeder discovers the still unfinished Death Star orbiting Geonosis . Ambushed in the asteroid field by Boba Fett aboard the Slave I , the StarSpeeder dodges laser fires and exploding asteroids before venturing into the Death Star. Escaping Darth Vader through a hangar bay, the StarSpeeder is confronted again by the bounty hunter. Fett launches a sonic bomb, which is reflected by a laser blast from the StarSpeeder. The explosion cripples the bounty hunter’s ship, allowing the StarSpeeder to jump to lightspeed. It reaches the Rebel fleet and lands aboard a Mon Calamari cruiser, where Mon Mothma and the other Rebel Alliance leaders await to offer congratulations.
  • The StarSpeeder arrives on Crait in the middle of the battle between the First Order and the Resistance. After escaping TIE fighters by going through a cave, the StarSpeeder re-emerges during a battle with a group of First Order AT-M6 and AT-AT walkers. General Hux appears on the side screen and orders the First Order to execute them. After taking down a few AT-M6s, Poe Dameron says thanks for the help, and the ship escapes to Batuu , where 3PO muses that their adventure is just beginning .
  • The StarSpeeder arrives around Exegol to assist the Resistance in their fight against the Sith Eternal 's fleet, the Final Order. 3PO is terrified that we might not survive the chaotic battle and after managing to remove a destroyed Sith TIE fighter from the viewport, the StarSpeeder helps take out some of the Sith Star Destroyers before returning to the Spaceport, avoiding outgoing ships, and encountering an angry AC-38 as the attraction ends.

C-3PO thanks the guests for choosing Star Tours as their space-line of choice and are then given disembarking instructions by Aly San San .

Post-ride [ ]

After exiting the ride vehicle, the guests are shuffled through the space terminal and into the attraction's gift shop. The Florida version is called Tatooine Traders and is inspired by a desert outpost in Mos Espa. California's version is called Star Trader and is, much like the attraction itself, designed with Tomorrowland in mind.

Star Tours - The Adventures Continue (Disneyland Paris)

star tour l'aventure continue disney

In 1987, the original version of Star Tours opened in Disneyland’s Tomorrowland. The motion simulator ride based on the Star Wars franchise featured Captain Rex, a droid that attempted to fly guests to the planet Endor.

In 2011, Disney debuted an updated version of this ride: Star Tours – The Adventures Continue . The new ride uses advanced 3D technology, randomly chosen alternate scenes, and frequent updates with new characters and locations as new Star Wars films come out.

The new version also exists at other Disney Parks around the world: Disney’s Hollywood Studios , Disneyland Park  and Tokyo Disneyland .

Queue Details

  • Captain Rex can still be found in the new version – the droid is near the entrance to the queue’s cargo bay, ready to be shipped far, far away as DEFECTIVE stickers are now stuck to him.

star tour l'aventure continue disney

  • The droid found during the boarding pre-show is Aly San San . She is inspired by  Attack of the Clones ‘ waitress droid, WA-7 . In the US versions of the ride, this character is voiced by actress Allison Janney which has a “glitch” to provide safety information in Spanish. In this version of the ride, the droid is voiced by a French actress with her “glitch” being part of Janney’s English spiel. You may recognize Janney as the voice of Peach in Pixar’s Finding Nemo (2003) as well as Doofenshmirtz’s ex-wife Charlene in Disney’s Phineas and Ferb .

star tour l'aventure continue disney

Ride Details

  • The original French version of the ride featured Luq Hamet as the voice of Captain Rex. Hamet has a few Disney roles under his belt as the French voice-over actor for Milo in Atlantis: The Lost Empire (2001) as well as the titular character in Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988) . In the new version, our pilot is C-3PO, voiced by the film’s original English voice actor/performer Anthony Daniels , who although doesn’t provide the voice-overs for the French dubs of the  Star Wars films , does speak fluent French.
  • The ride doesn’t have an original score, but rather a compilation of music from the Star Wars films by John Williams . Composer  Richard Bellis  was in charge of arranging and orchestrating the melody including some original elements such as the infamous chime . Bellis played a similar role in Disneyland’s Indiana Jones And The Temple Of The Forbidden Eye as well as a number of original projects for Disney including The ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter and Dinosaur .
  • One of the sequences takes riders to Crait , the mineral planet seen during  Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi (2017) . Crait was inspired by and filmed on Bolivia’s Uyuni Salt Flat . The portions used during the ride are likely to be completely CGI.
  • Another sequence takes riders to Hoth , the ice planet seen during  Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back (1980) . Hoth’s battle scenes were filmed on and near Norway’s Hardangerjøkulen (Hardanger Glacier) , although the ride footage appears to all be CGI.

Star Tours

  • Star Tours was a joint production between Walt Disney Imagineering and George Lucas' special effects operation Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) . After agreeing to the project, Walt Disney Imagineering purchased military flight simulators to help create the effects and movement. The final StarSpeeders are therefore very similar in design and power to these immense industrial machines.
  • The Astroport workers seen during the flight and in the pre-show video are all ILM modelshop workers . However, contrary to popular belief, the worker seen ducking in shock as your StarSpeeder returns to the Astroport is infact not George Lucas but Ira Keeler, an ILM modelmaker who just happened to be in the right place at the right time!
  • Look closely at REX's bodywork and you'll see a red tag featuring the words "Remove Before Flight" - could this explain his poor flight skills?
  • One of the Ewoks featured in the pre-flight video is holding a Mickey Mouse plush . The guests surrounding them are all Imagineers and their families.

The original Star Tours in California, opened 1987, cost almost twice as much as the whole park did upon opening in 1955!

  • Make your plans for a Star Tours departure later in the day for a shorter wait at the terminal. Even though the ride is indoors, it is given an extra buzz of realism at nighttime thanks to the spacey atmosphere of Discoveryland outside.
  • Not suitable for sufferers of motion sickness.
  • For safety, you should be in good health and free from high blood pressure, heart, back or neck problems, motion sickness or other conditions which could be aggravated by this adventure.
  • Expectant mothers and those wearing an orthopaedic device or surgical collar should not ride.
  • Transfer required.

With the launch of its 25th anniversary celebration, Disneyland Paris launched  Star Tours: l’Aventure Continue . The French version of Star Tours: The Adventures Continue .

For some reason I have yet to visit the Stateside parks, so my only actual experience riding Star Tours has been the original in Paris. So when the gates opened for the public the 26th of March, I slowly let everything sink in, until now.

You see, I can’t help but be disappointed. It’s almost impossible to really know Star Tours , and not be. Of course, we can’t have a clear vision of this, since we’ve been obsessing over every detail of Star Tours for the past fifteen years. (Yes, we started this site when Disneyland Paris was just celebrating it’s tenth birthday!

Star Tours has been in Disneyland Paris since opening day in 1992. The original attraction opened 5 years earlier in Disneyland, and ironically it took another five years since the new version launched in the Stateside parks for the French update to start. Those five years are a very long time in the world of media. With the theming and video assets being a regionalised clone of the 2011 version in Orlando, Florida, it already is a dated attraction before it evened opened in Disneyland Paris.

You see, the time that this attraction was created was before the great Lucasfilm Ltd. takeover by The Walt Disney Company. With full oversight of George Lucas, it has the complete aesthetic of a clean company, very prequel like.

But instead of seeing Star Tours as a post-war rag-tag travel agency, it now feels like a huge corporation without any soul. The entire queue line went from a warm feeling bunch of chaos to a boring cold toned airport. With droids scanning luggage and passengers with a heat-ray, the only thing missing is a TSA-droid doing a pat down. Even real-life French regulations pop-up here with a huge fence around C-3PO, to secure any maintenance personnel doing touch-ups on the golden animatronic.

The main show is smooth as ever, and even much more intense with the movements. Especially landing in the Death Star wreck in the Jakku scene is very intense. But having a panicky C-3PO as your host feels like a cheap copy of the original Captain REX, whose role has been reassigned to being locked up in a box with his former fellow droids in the queue line. Perhaps the most gut wrenching vision was ROX-N locked up in a tiny box with a small window. Her hand slowly reaching for the opening. Her name-tag stripped, and replaced by a larger foamcoare copy. I guess for readability. Accompanied by all other droids with some very objectionable choices. The first obvious one is that R4 and R5 heads got mixed between bodies. But the biggest continuity error is having the top part of G2-4T and G2-9T crated up as well, with their new counterparts sitting just on the other side of the fence. Instead of retrofitting new designs on the old droids, Imagineers from WDI chose to use the feet of the original droids, with brand new animatronics being created in California. Meaning the discarded rest of these adorable droids are sitting in a crate. Looking at the newer robots that stole their jobs. And feet.

The fact that this multi-language attraction (French, English and Ewokese) has been completely Frenchified, is a slap in the face for 38% of non-native speaking English speakers in Europe, with just 14% of speaking non-native French. A very weird choice for the number one tourist attraction in Europe. The only English in the entire attraction is 1 quote from Aly San San to keep an eye out for your children, and half of the Cast Member Spiel with the safety briefings.

Perhaps the most dated of all is the CGI. With Rogue One, the latest Star Wars movie, looking breathtaking, the six year old visuals of Star Tours feel like a video game instead of a cinematic event, a sentiment shared by Tony Baxter, the creative director of the original Star Tours. Star Tours might have been given a brain, but it’s a heart that it sorely needs . We can only hope that the wizards at Walt Disney Imagineering will realise this.

For those nostalgic about olden days, You can still enjoy our project: Star Tours: Before The Adventures Continue .

But that’s not the end of Star Wars in the parks. With the franchise bombarding cinemas with a yearly hit movie and many billions of dollars of merchandise, it’s easy to see that Disney want to make the most of their $4.05 billion investment. For the parks & resorts, this means a huge Star Wars Land that is under construction in Disneyland Resort and Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World with a scheduled 2019 opening. For Paris however, this massive expansion is just a pipe dream, with no apparent plans for an update of this magnitude.

What we will be getting however is a retrofit. May 7th, Space Mountain will become Star Wars Hyperspace Mountain: Rebel Mission. With the attraction itself being quite an interesting and fun experience in the other parks, it’s still a a choice that is very controversial with fans. Discoveryland in Paris is all retro-future steampunk design, which that clashes completely with the plastic look of Star Wars .

It’s hard to see how they can implement an authentic Star Wars experience in such a large iconic space. But, unless the powers that be decide to implement a full-on Star Wars experience in the Disneyland Park, it’s the closest we’ll come for now.

Every New Star Wars Location And Character Added To Disney's Star Tours Ride

Star Tours

Disney's theme parks launched new experiences for their original "Star Wars" ride this week. Star Tours: The Adventures Continue is the second iteration of the attraction that originally opened at Disneyland Park in 1987. The first version of the ride was a consistent experience that put audiences inside a motion-simulated ship piloted by a droid voiced by Paul Reubens . The ride took park-goers right into the middle of a Death Star attack and was unlike anything anyone had ever seen. An ever-popular attraction, it was updated in May of 2011 to its current iteration. Instead of a single movie ride, new technology allowed Lucasfilm and Disney Imagineers to randomize the process. Now, with the updated system, your voyages could be randomized and it was easy for new updates to be made.

As new movies in the Skywalker Saga were subsequently released, new locations were added to the ride. "The Force Awakens" brought Jakku to Star Tours, with "The Last Jedi" bringing Crait, and "The Rise of Skywalker" similarly adding Exegol and Kef Bir to the mix. However, there haven't been any new additions since the Skywalker Saga concluded in 2019 — until now, that is.

Ahsoka and her crew

While Star Tours has always brought park-goers to many places, all of those destinations were previously taken directly from the nine films of the Skywalker Saga (and everything else came from the theatrically released "Star Wars" features only). With this most recent update, though, the world of "Star Wars" television and animation has finally come to life on Star Tours.

The only new location that's been added to Star Tours this time around is the planet Seatos, which was first seen in the "Ahsoka" television show. It's where Ahsoka was able to chase Morgan Elsbeth to a new galaxy with the help of the giant space whales known as the purrgil . As a passenger, it's thrilling to weave through the purrgil and get to see them up close, with Ahsoka on the screen calling out instructions to R2-D2 and C-3PO. In fact, the ride even includes a touching moment where Ahsoka tells Artoo it's nice to see him again, which got me a little choked up after 15 years of seeing them interact in the canon across various cartoons.

Seatos itself is a terrific addition and fits in completely with the aesthetic and adventure of the rest of the ride. Though it doesn't maintain the adherence to the Skywalker Saga as all of the previous additions did, let's hope this opens the door for locations from other movies like "Solo: A Star Wars Story," as well as "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story."

But the new location isn't all that's been added.

New holograms

One of the fun additions to Star Tours that came with this latest redesign is the ability to receive holographic messages from beloved characters across the "Star Wars" franchise. Princess Leia, Yoda, and Admiral Ackbar provided the first holographic messages for the ride, while Poe Dameron, BB-8, Maz Kanata, and Lando Calrissian were added later (with the original actors generally reprising their roles). This latest update expanded the holograms further into the realm of Disney+ shows, bringing us Cassian Andor, Din Djarin and Grogu, and Ahsoka Tano herself.

The holograms come at a point in the ride that allows the rider to catch their breath and engage them in the broader story. The holographic entities offer new coordinates for the riders of Star Tours to head to in order to help the Rebellion or Resistance in the fight against evil.

Each of the new additions has a different flavor. The Cassian Andor hologram (Diego Luna) has a grave urgency to it that feels very much in line with the tone of "Rogue One" and "Andor." I couldn't help but notice a tingle up my spine with the gravitas that Luna employed to deliver his holographic message for the ride.

Ahsoka was added as well, and she offers a ray of hope, along with cameos and a more lighthearted tone. In the background of Ahsoka's hologram, you can see Huyang — David Tenant's character from "Ahsoka" and "The Clone Wars" — as well as everyone's favorite murder droid, Chopper. He's such a fan favorite that when he appeared on the ride, the entire ship cheered in surprise and delight.

The last hologram that got added really pushed the 3D effects to their maximum and brought Din Djarin and Grogu to the ride. It's almost hard to remember what the Mandalorian was saying because your attention is fixed on Grogu, who levitates before eating a frog. In the end, he spat the frog out at the audience and it got everyone to flinch.

There was one more element added to the ride for this iteration, and it involves the very first scene. Ordinarily, Stormtroopers and either Darth Vader or Kylo Ren will appear to stop your transport. Sometimes, in the background, you'll see the Millennium Falcon taking off to make an escape, at which point Artoo guides the Starspeeder 1000 to chase it. The new intro replaces the Falcon with Ahsoka's T6 Jedi Shuttle from the "Ahsoka" television series. Seeing it in action was quite beautiful and it added one more immersive element to the ride.

The future of Star Tours

With this new batch of additions to Star Tours, it feels safe to assume we'll be getting more updates as more theatrical films are released. Might that include an older Rey from the New Jedi Order film? Or perhaps more of Din and Grogu to coincide with "Star Wars" returning to theaters with "The Mandalorian & Grogu" in 2026 ? It's easy to imagine the possibilities, all of which would serve to make Star Tours a fresh experience for as long as the ride itself is around.

The only complaint I might have is that the original intent of the first batch of Star Tours rides came with the conceit that the experiences could somehow be canon and that they all took place during a specific era of "Star Wars," placing them during the dark times chronicled in the first two "Star Wars" trilogies. That started to change a bit with the inclusion of the sequel movies, to the point where now some of the combined experiences just don't make sense. For example, I got a version of the ride that featured Ahsoka across its entirety, including her escaping, offering us a mission, and then finding her way to Seatos. It's simply unclear how it all fits together. The original release also sort of implied there would be locations from "The Mandalorian," "Andor," and "Ahsoka," as opposed to just "Ahsoka" (as thrilling as it is to visit Seatos).

Overall, though, those are minor quibbles. As a kid, Star Tours was the closest I thought I'd ever feel to taking a step into the "Star Wars" universe, and now I frequent it as often as I can to visit new corners of it.

Star Tours – The Adventure Continues: Everything You Need to Know

posted by Charmaine Cortes on June 11, 2023 // last updated on June 11, 2023

Star Wars has been in the hearts and minds of people around the world since it debuted in 1977. The popular film series comes to life at Disney World in Orlando, Florida with the Star Tours – The Adventures Continues ride. The ride includes a high-definition, 3-D film in a flight simulator.

Fans of the movie saga will recognize scenes from the films, including clips from The Force Awakens. Because of the sheer number of fans who come to Disney to experience Star Wars, knowing all the details about the Star Tours – The Adventure Continues ride can make your visit to the parks more magical.

Important Factors to Consider

Disney characters you’ll see in the ride, history of the ride, what happens in the ride, potential sights in star tours, stop at the store on your way out, easter eggs in the queue, continuity in the star wars universe.

star tour l'aventure continue disney

The ride is located in Disney’s Hollywood Studios . In the Echo Lake area. The ride lasts about seven minutes, and riders should expect to wait about an hour. While the line might cause riders to leave, it’s helpful to know the ride is one of the best in the park, so the wait is worthwhile. The ride has a large capacity, so the lines move quickly.

Riders sit in a flight-simulator cockpit, so if you are in a scooter or wheelchair, you’ll have to transfer out of it to get into the ride. Disney requires all riders to be at least 40 inches tall. Unfortunately, The Star Wars ride does not have a ride swap program, but the ride is climate controlled with air conditioning and heat.

Disney warns that the ride can trigger motion sickness for people who are sensitive to it. If you are prone to motion sickness, consider sitting in the middle of the ride. The back row is the best choice for people who want more motion during the ride.

A benefit of the Star Tours – The Adventure Continues ride is the variation of each ride. Disney has over 50 opening and closing scenes. You could visit the ride throughout the day and never have the same experience twice.

While flying through the Star Wars world, riders will enjoy seeing their favorite characters. The ride features characters like Rey and Kylo Ren from the new trilogy, and it includes classic characters like Darth Vader, Chewbacca, Yoda, and the Droids.

star tour l'aventure continue disney

The first Star Wars ride opened as Star Tours in 1989, and Disney gave it a refresh with a redesign in 2011 that is still open to the public today. Disney frequently offered Star Wars Weekends where fans could interact with their favorite Star Wars characters who wandered around the Ewok park near the ride.

Disney updated the ride in 2019 after The Rise of Skywalker arrived in theaters, after updating the ride to add characters from The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi. Disney added more video clips and audio-animatronics.

Visitors can ride Star Tours – The Adventure Continues at Disney World in Orlando, Disneyland in California , Tokyo Disneyland in Japan, and Disneyland Park in Paris, France.

Riders at the park in Tokyo get a special Easter egg when they enter the queue. The first room they enter while in the line features a billboard of potential travel destinations, one of them being Spaceport THX1138, named for the first movie George Lucas made.

Otherwise, guests encounter their first Star Wars characters when they enter the hangar with the StarSpeeder 1000. Iconic droids C-3PO and R2-D2 are working on the speeder and a set of commercials share information about flight lists and space stations.

The next step includes a security droid scanning baggage and broadcasting the items on a screen. Guests will quickly recognize several Easter eggs from Star Wars and Disney. They will eventually reach the boarding area where C-3PO is chatting with AC-38 about the status of the speeder.

AC-38 (Ace) inspects the ship, then the ship takes off and C-3PO and R2-D2 take the controls. At takeoff, you’ll face one of many obstacles including an angry Kylo Ren and a checkpoint filled with Stormtroopers. It all happens while being chased by the First Order.

Your Star Tours ride could include interactions with Han Solo and the Millennium Falcon. YOu could also see Boba Fett, TIE fighters, and Kylo Ren with First Order stormtroopers.

All rides stop at one of five planets including Hoth, Kashyyyk, Tatooine, Jakku, and Kef Bir. While visiting these planets, riders could encounter snow speeders, speeder bikes with Wookiees, pod races, First Order TIE fighters, or a Death Star Mobile Battle Station.

After stopping at or around the first planet, riders will receive a hologram message from Yoda, Admiral Ackbar, Princess Leia, BB-8, Maz Kanata, Poe Dameron, or Lando Calrissian. The messenger will announce the next step of the journey.

The second leg of the journey includes one of five stops: Coruscant, Naboo, Geonosis, Crait, Exegol, or Batuu. On the visit, riders could end up attacked by Buzz droids while in a star battle. They could meet Jar Jar Binks after a battle above Naboo. Riders chased by Boba Fett could end up on Geonosis.

Riders who end up in a non-canon location could be forced to survive a battle between the First Order and the Resistance. They could also face the Sith Eternal Forces, and finally, they could visit Spaceport THX1138.

In typical Disney and Star Wars fashion, all exits feature shops loaded with Star Wars merchandise. At Disneyland, the store is appropriately named The Star Trader, while the Disney World store is named Tatooine Traders. The Star Wars shop looks like it could be at home on Tatooine. Some merchandise can only be found at these shops, making them popular with fans.

Disneyland reused several animatronic geese to make the G2 repair droids you’ll see in the queue. If you listen carefully, you’ll hear the droids singing various versions of “I’ve Been Working on the Railroad,” which is a song the original geese sang in the America Sings ride.

The Easter eggs continue as the G2-9T droid answers a call from a supervisor by harkening back to A New Hope saying “Uh, everything’s perfectly alright now, w-we’re fine. We’re all fine here now, thank you. Uh, how are you?” – just like Han Solo did.

The Easter eggs continue in the scanned luggage. People in the queue will notice a Goofy doll, Jar Jar Binks, Chip and Dale, and the lamp from Aladdin. If you’re lucky, you’ll see WALL-E, Madame Leota, or Stitch. Occasionally, riders get to see Sorcerer Mickey’s hat, V.I.N.C.E.N.T., a snowflake, the Mighty Microscope, Mike Wazowski’s teddy bear, and Indiana Jones gear.

star tour l'aventure continue disney

Star Wars – The Adventure Continues is one of the most popular rides at all Disney Parks. The ride is pure joy for Star Wars fans who enjoy the surprises and Easter eggs in the queue and the ride itself.

Disney is dedicated to providing several Star Wars rides, especially in the Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge section of Hollywood Studios with a few more rides, shops, and restaurants themed after the epic film series.

Star Tours l’Aventure Continue – Disneyland Attraction

Attraction Star Tour interior view

There’s no shortage of attractions at Disneyland Paris. Among them, the Star Tours plunged me into the universe of my dreams, that of Star Wars. Located in the realm of Discoveryland , this unique attraction is one of the park’s most popular. What impressed me most about this attraction was the use of highly futuristic technologies. Star Tours offers over 60 mission combinations sure to delight the galaxy’s most passionate Jedi.

Star Tours, l’Aventure Continue – We take you on an incredible 3D journey to distant galaxies and war-torn worlds. This is possible thanks to the Starspeeder 1000, the machine that will take rebels of all ages on an unforgettable flight through the Star Wars universe. The Star Wars attraction is based on flight simulator technology. L’Aventure Continue has entered the third dimension. To plunge completely into this universe, 3D glasses are distributed to participants.

Discover the real intergalactic airport!

entrance to the Star Tours attaction a star wars adventure

From the queue, and even with Fastpass access , the setting already gives the impression of entering a real astroport bursting with activity. Here you’ll find signs announcing upcoming flights. The discovery of the animated extraterrestrials running the place in the company of the busy droids will leave you speechless.

In Discoveryland’s Star Tours attraction, as in all Disneyland attractions, every detail has been carefully thought out to ensure you have the time of your life. To immerse participants right from the start, access to the spaceship is very special. First of all, when I arrived at the site, I could see an X-wing on the roof of the attraction, ready to take off. A small ladder provides access. The attraction has been converted into a veritable intergalactic airport. As soon as I stepped inside, I felt like I was plunging into a veritable voyage into space. Audible announcements are similar to airport codes. Safety instructions, reminders to late passengers and technical reminders – nothing was left to chance.

A wide range of exceptional scenarios

Star Tours – The Adventure Continues allowed me to plunge right into the heart of the Star Wars saga, to relive all the film’s cult moments as if I were really there. The scenarios are multiple and change each time. They keep you coming back for even more thrills and spills. For my part, I was lucky enough to take part in pod races on Taooine, relive the battle of the ice planet Hoth and even dive deep into the abyss of the planet Naboo. On the other hand, discovering the impenetrable jungle of the planet Kashyyk really gave me the chills.

Many surprises await you at Star Tours. During the flight, iconic Star Wars characters may appear in the middle of the journey. They’re part of the journey. For adventure enthusiasts, I highly recommend you try this attraction. You’ll see, it’s enough to make you a regular.

Disneyland’s Star Tours: The Adventures Continue has proved to be one of the theme park’s most versatile attractions.

Though perhaps no longer the groundbreaking technological marvel that it was when it debuted in 1987, the flight simulator ride has shifted with the franchise, withstanding cultural trends and aligning with whichever version of “Star Wars” is popular at the moment — or in need of a marketing boost.

The latest update to Star Tours brings the ride into the Disney+ era, with nods to series such as “The Mandalorian,” “Ahsoka” and “Andor.” More noteworthy, at least for Disneyland guests, is that the centerpiece of the latest upgrades is a scene that provides a slight tonal shift for the attraction, one focused, albeit briefly, on slowing down and giving so-called starspeeder riders a look at one of “Star Wars’” more majestic creatures. Star Tours will now rocket guests straight to a moment that boasts a close-up with the purrgil, essentially large, mysterious space whales that move with a galactic grace.

Princess Tiana, in a green explorers outfit, is one of Disney's most lifelike robotics.

With new droids at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and some of the most lifelike characters ever created at Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, Disney is looking to wow guests.

April 4, 2024

For the 3-D attraction, its a moment that provides a breather. The motion simulator lingers for a few seconds, and our makeshift animatronic captain, the golden droid C-3PO, turns to face riders. C-3PO shifts into tour guide mode, appearing in awe of the purrgil and commenting on how serene the animals are.

“This will be different from other sequences, to have a moment,” said Tom Fitzgerald, a senior creative executive with Walt Disney Imagineering, the company’s secretive arm devoted to theme park attractions, when asked about taking a patient approach to the scene. “You don’t get many moments. It’s so compact. But it’s a moment to let people look at the beauty of this, and the 3-D gives you the scale of those creatures.”

star tour l'aventure continue disney

The additions to Star Tours are arguably the centerpiece of Disneyland’s all-things-”Star Wars” promotion Season of the Force , which debuted this past weekend and runs through June 2. The “Star Wars” festival also sees new droids making their way to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge through the duration of the event, as well as the return of Space Mountain overlay Hyperspace Mountain and a new free scavenger hunt that aims to get players to pay close attention to the minute details of Galaxy’s Edge.

Fitzgerald has been with Star Tours since the ride’s beginning, and oversaw the latest Star Tours additions, which further deviate the attraction from any strict “Star Wars” timeline and instead focus it on being a sort of “greatest hits” for the brand. The purrgil scene also features Rosario Dawson’s Ahsoka Tano and the character’s svelte, fast-rotating starship above the planet of Seatos. Tano’s ship inspired Imagineers to see if they could add some new tricks to the attraction, mainly in the way the simulator can move. When Tano’s vessel twists and spins, for instance, the starspeeder attempts to mimic it, endeavoring to create the feeling of a 360-barrel roll. At other times, the starspeeder glides among the purrgil.

Key to Star Tours’ longevity, and what makes it the rare motion simulator that doesn’t feel rooted in the 1980s, is its ability to create new sensations via its movements. The ride now has more than 250 storyline variations, and when adding to the attraction, Imagineers are looking for ways to heighten the contrast among its various scenes, both tonally and in its maneuvers. Though Star Tours is typically randomized — for the foreseeable future, and definitely throughout Disneyland’s spring Season of the Force promotion — all riders are guaranteed to visit the new location and receive an early-flight transmission from one of the recently added characters.

Din Djarin and Grogu from "The Mandalorian" can now be seen in 3D on Star Tours.

“How do we make each of the places we go have a different color palette?” says Fitzgerald, who then recalls different “Star Wars” planets that can be featured in the attraction’s random programming. “Mustafar is all lava. Kashyyyk is all green jungle. So they feel very different when you get the combos. And then motion-based. Could we do a barrel roll? That’s the fun of doing it, and programming it and trying it. And we needed something else. What have we not done? So with the purrgils, what if we do skiing through the tentacles? We had never done that. So those are the two big motion changes.”

The attraction is also livened up by appearances from Dawnson’s Tano, Diego Luna’s Cassian Andor and a masked Din Djarin from “The Mandalorian.” While the latter is played and portrayed by Pedro Pascal on the Disney+ series, many have noted that the Djarin on “Star Tours” features a slightly different vocal cadence than Pascal, and an Imagineering spokesperson says the company is not revealing its voice actors for the attraction. Nevertheless, “The Mandalorian” moment features some comic relief — and clever 3-D usage — courtesy of Grogu, colloquially refered to as “baby Yoda,” and his penchant to use Force powers to toy with and eat frogs.

Here are 5 takeaways from the Themed Entertainment Assn.’s annual gathering in Hollywood.

The three appear as transmissions that help define the suddenly urgent narrative of Star Tours. “Each one is different,” Fitzgerald says. “Mando and Grogu we played for comedy. And Andor is mysterious. You don’t see his face. You see this thing coming toward you. Is that a friend or foe? And then he pulls his hood and the music changes.” Tano, meanwhile, arrives like an old friend who knows C-3PO and fellow droid R2D2. Riders are advised to pay close attention to the opening cinematic in a ship’s hangar, as there is a new randomized opening that features Tano in a lightsaber battle with Stormtroopers.
