Taylor Swift is one of the biggest names in the music industry. Her 2022 album Midnights marked the tenth entry into her impressive discography and kickstarted the beginning of her Eras tour in March 2023. While on tour across the United States and Mexico, the 12-time Grammy winner pleasantly surprised fans on August 31 with an announcement of the Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour concert movie. Tickets went on sale (and immediately sold out) that same day.

Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour movie is clearly the hottest event of this fall season. Here is everything you need to know about it movie before heading to the theater.

What to know about Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour (concert movie)

The Eras tour takes audiences on a captivating musical journey spanning all of Taylor Swift’s unique "eras", paying homage to each of her albums. These albums are 2006's Taylor Swift, Fearless in 2008, 2010's Speak Now, Red in 2012, 1989 in 2014, 2017's Reputation, Lover in 2019, 2020's Folkmore and Evermore, and Midnights in 2022. You can expect to witness her perform some of the most celebrated songs within her catalogue including "Love Story", "Blank Space", and "Anti-Hero."

The movie offers audiences the opportunity to experience the wildly anticipated concert they might not have had the chance to see in person. Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour movie filmed the initial trio of performances at SoFi Stadium in early August. As shown in the concert movie, this huge Los Angeles venue drew an astounding crowd of nearly half a million fans.

As the official concert movie for her Eras Tour, Taylor Swift wants fans to have an authentic concert experience when watching the movie in theaters. When she initially announced it on X, Taylor suggested  that fans should dress up in their best Eras attire, wear friendship bracelets and participate in singing and dancing, just like they would at a live show: "The Eras Tour has been the most meaningful, electric experience of my life so far and I’m overjoyed to tell you that it’ll be coming to the big screen soon.  Starting Oct 13th you’ll be able to experience the concert film in theaters in North America! Tickets are on sale now at http:// taylor.lnk.to/TSTheErasTourF ilm … . Eras attire, friendship bracelets, singing and dancing encouraged. 1, 2, 3 LGB!!!! (iykyk)"

Where can I watch Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour?

If you are in the united states:.

AMC theaters have entered into an exclusive agreement with Swift, allowing only their locations in the United States to screen The Eras Tour movie starting October 13. Canadian theaters will screen the movie as well.

Within minutes of theater tickets for Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour being released, the AMC app crashed with fans attempting to buy advance tickets for the movie. This marks the second instance this year where Swifties caused a major website to malfunction, with the first being during the sale for the actual Eras Tour itself. AMC is currently promoting exciting additions for your cinematic experience including Eras Tour-themed popcorn buckets for $14.99+tax and drink cups for $11.99+tax. Exclusive cardigans have, unfortunately, still not been announced.

If you are outside of the United States:

On Tuesday 26th September, 2023, tickets for the official Eras tour concert movie were announced in over 100 countries around the world. Taylor Swift made the announcement on Instagram, sharing that the film will be in theaters in those countries from October 13, 2023.

"The tour isn’t the only thing we’re taking worldwide…….. 🌎 Been so excited to tell you all that The Eras Tour concert film is now officially coming to theaters WORLDWIDE on Oct 13! Tickets available now at www.TSTheErasTourFilm.com or on your local theaters website!"

Tickets were available immediately after the Instagram post went live. AMC have struck a deal with sub-distribution partners for more than 7,500 movie theatres in order to show the film in theaters around the world. Across Europe, the concert movie will be playing at Odeon theaters. Odeon also announced a special pricing for the event:

"In a nod to Taylor Swift’s 1989 album and her favourite number, 13, tickets in the UK and Ireland will be priced at £19.89 / €19.89 for adults and £13.13 / €13.13 for children."

Will The Eras Tour be on Netflix?

Despite the concert movie's cinematic release on October 13, there has been no announcement about where to stream Taylor Swift: The Era Tour online. Until further notice, the movie is available exclusively in theaters. However, given the record-breaking demand for tickets, it is very likely fans will be able to watch The Eras Tour on streaming services after its theatrical run ends.

You can choose to get notified by JustWatch when a streaming release date is announced by heading to Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour and hitting the notification bell.

How long is Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour?

While an Eras Tour concert typically lasts over three hours on average, the official length of the concert movie is 2 hours and 40 minutes. This makes it much longer than previous Taylor Swift concert movies, such as Taylor Swift: Reputation Stadium Tour which is 2 hours and 5 mins.

Who is the director of Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour?

Grammy-nominated Sam Wrench is the director of the upcoming concert movie. He earned the coveted nomination for directing Billie Eilish Live At The O2 in 2023. Wrench is best known for his ability in capturing the electrifying essence of a live music event, having also worked on  Lizzo: Live in Concert and BTS: Permission to Dance on Stage - LA . He boasts an impressive resume filled with projects from some of the biggest names in the industry including Mary J. Blige, The Weeknd, Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande.

What records did Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour break?

Taylor Swift just keeps adding to her impressive list of record-breaking achievements. The Eras Tour movie shattered the record for the most money made from advance ticket sales in a single day at AMC Theaters, raking in a whopping $26 million. This surpasses the previous record-holder, 2021's  Spider-Man: No Way Home , by $10 million. Fans achieved this record-breaking feat in just three hours, beating  Avengers: Endgame 's record for the most tickets sold within the first 24 hours.

The Eras Tour movie is expected to have an incredible opening weekend, with a projected range of $100-125 million. The top five movies for the year's opening weekends include Barbie , The Super Mario Bros. Movie , Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse , Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania . These range between between $162 million to $106 million, which means the upcoming concert movie has the potential to have one of the best opening weekends of 2023.

Furthermore, the sudden announcement of the movie's release date caused other titles to change their release dates. The Exorcist: Believer , originally slated for the same day, will now premiere a week earlier. Producer Jason Blum playfully tweeted, "Look what you made me do. The Exorcist: Believer moves to 10/6/23.”

What are the other Taylor Swift concert movies?

For those who simply cannot calm down before the release of the movie, there have been a number of projects featuring exclusive access to Swift’s concerts that are available to watch right now. These include The 1989 World Tour Live, which was released on Apple Music in 2015, and 2018’s Taylor Swift: Reputation Stadium Tour which is available to stream on Netflix. There were also DVD releases of Taylor Swift: Journey to Fearless in 2010 and Speak Now World Tour – Live the following year.

Swifties alike must ultimately tolerate this Cruel wait with their Gorgeous Style they know Belongs to them. On the Bejeweled side, there are only a few weeks left before they are united by the greatest Love Story on the big screen: Taylor Swift with her Swifties. They are undeniably Ready For It.

Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour will be released in theaters on October 13, 2023.

Taylor Swift Announces Eras Tour Concert Film

Taylor Swift will bring the grandeur and the glory of the Eras Tour to the big screen with a concert film set to hit theaters Oct. 13.

“ The Eras Tour has been the most meaningful, electric experience of my life so far and I’m overjoyed to tell you that it’ll be coming to the big screen soon,” Swift wrote on Instagram. “Starting Oct 13th you’ll be able to experience the concert film in theaters in North America! The Eras Tour — which is technically only halfway done at this point — has already been one of the biggest tours of all time. The hype was astronomical from the moment Swift announced the trek (her first since the 2018 Reputation tour ) in late 2022 on the heels of her latest album, Midnights. (Seriously, when the dates were announced, several people were forced to consider whether it was worth it to reschedule their own weddings ).

Taylor Swift Adds a Theater Near You to Eras Tour Stops

Portrait of Justin Curto

Update, Tuesday, September 25, at 8 a.m.: Flash forward and Swifties are taking on the world together, literally. Taylor Swift announced the global release of The Eras Tour movie, after previously announcing the North American dates with AMC Theatres. “Been so excited to tell you all that The Eras Tour concert film is now officially coming to theaters WORLDWIDE on Oct 13!” Swift wrote in an announcement post on Instagram. The film has already spooked demons and  broken presale records held by Star Wars , so may the Force be with fans as they try to get tickets — they are already on sale in most countries.

If you haven’t drafted your Vulture Movie League team yet, it’s not too late to bring your picks to Swiftory. Ask Travis Kelce how it’s going if you need any more convincing.

Original story follows.

Looks like motion capture put her in a bit better light this time. Taylor Swift is releasing a documentary of the Eras Tour on October 13, the latest move in her Film Era. “The Eras Tour has been the most meaningful, electric experience of my life so far and I’m overjoyed to tell you that it’ll be coming to the big screen soon 😆,” Swift tweeted with the news. Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour is directed by Sam Wrench, a Grammy nominee who has helmed films for Billie Eilish, BTS, Brandi Carlile, and many more musicians. And the first trailer is here to already get you started reliving the Eras Tour or experiencing it for the first time.

A Swift concert doc had been an open secret after many fans noticed the tour was being filmed, but most assumed it would go to streaming, like her Netflix film Miss Americana or her Disney+ folklore companion The Long Pond Studio Sessions . Instead, the doc is being distributed by AMC in a first-time deal. The theater is promising at least four show times at every AMC theater on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, while also getting the doc on other screens throughout North America. Regular tickets are $19.89, while senior and children’s tickets are $13.13 — don’t say she’s not a mastermind. (And, of course, it’s available in IMAX and Dolby Cinema too.) Alamo Drafthouse later also announced that it would screen the film, with tickets going on sale September 1. AMC’s preorder tickets, meanwhile, are already on sale. In anticipation of the drop, the theater said its server can handle “more than 5 times the current record for the most ever tickets sold in an hour.” Still, it warned fans that there may be delays, because “no ticketing system in history” can handle Taylor Swift. As long as AMC doesn’t end up in court or Congress over this one, we’ll call it a success.

Taylor Swift To Fill Void At Fall Box Office As ‘Eras Tour’ Concert Film Hits AMC, Regal, Cinemark; AMC To Distribute Movie In A First – Watch The Trailer

AMC is working with its sub-distribution partners to reach agreements with operators representing more than 7,500 movie theaters globally to show the film. The Eras Tour will play at all Odeon locations throughout Europe. It already is set to play in more than 4,000 locations in U.S./Canada.

Odeon said this morning that moviegoers can snap up tickets at its locations in the UK, Ireland, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Spain, Italy, Germany and Portugal. “In a nod to Taylor Swift’s 1989 album and her favourite number, 13, tickets in the UK and Ireland will be priced at £19.89/€19.89 for adults and £13.13/€13.13 for children,” the Odeon release said.

We revealed awhile ago that presales for the concert movie were at $65M for the top three U.S. circuits (AMC, Regal and Cinemark), as well as for Mexico Cineopolis and Canada’s Cineplex. That threshold, at least on the domestic side, isn’t that far from presales for tentpoles such as Marvel’s  Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness  ($60M) and  The Batman  ($42M). Note, advance ticket sales are significantly higher now. When the film was first announced on Aug. 31, it took less than 24 hours for the concert pic to shatter AMC’s U.S. record for the highest ticket-sales revenue during a single day in the chain’s 103-year history.

Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour hit tracking last week, with our sources saying at least $100M+ opening. The movie a guaranteed lock with women under 25. Note there are more conservative skeptics who believe that the pic could see a $75M opening because most Taylor Swift fans aren’t necessarily moviegoers, making that demographic hard to track.

With studios shifting big movies out of 2023, i.e. Sony’s Ghostbusters sequel, Legendary/Warner Bros. Dune: Part Two and MGM’s Challengers due to the actors strike, AMC refused to stand on the sidelines. The No. 1 chain in the U.S. made a deal with the Swift family to distribute her concert movie.

The Eras Tour era might be over in the U.S., but that doesn’t mean you have to put your friendship bracelets up on the shelf. AMC Theatres announced on Thursday morning (Aug. 31) that it has teamed up with the singer to present Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour concert film, which will debut on thousands of screens beginning Oct. 13.

Taylor Swift’s Style Evolution, From 2006 to Now

Swift posted a trailer for the film as well, writing, “The Eras Tour has been the most meaningful, electric experience of my life so far and I’m overjoyed to tell you that it’ll be coming to the big screen soon. Starting Oct 13th you’ll be able to experience the concert film in theaters in North America! Tickets are on sale now at http://taylor.lnk.to/TSTheErasTourFilm… . Eras attire, friendship bracelets, singing and dancing encouraged. 1, 2, 3 LGB!!!! (iykyk).”

The movie will also screen in IMAX and Dolby Cinema at AMC, as well as in other premium large formats for the standard up-charge fees, which varies by format and theatre. In anticipation of an expected rush of interest — perhaps learning from the chaos unleashed by Ticketmaster’s botched presale roll-out for the U.S. Eras Tour dates — AMC said it has upgraded its website and ticketing engines to “handle more than five times the largest influx of ticket-buying traffic” the company has experienced before.

The 80-second trailer for the film directed by Sam Wrench ( Billie Eilish Live at the O2 , Rhythm & Flow , BTS: Permission to Dance ) features a quick-cut of Swift’s many sparkling on-stage costumes from the tour cued to “Cruel Summer,” providing glimpses of the most iconic sets from the three-hour-plus performances. According to CNBC , like the marathon concerts, the movie will have a final runtime of two hours and 45 minutes.

AMC said that because of the unique nature of the event, no free movie passes will be accepted for the screenings, and AMC Stubs A-List cannot use their memberships to reserve tickets; AMC will also temporarily scale back its website ticketing availability for most of their other movie titles in anticipation of the rush of interest. In addition, to discourage speculation on secondary-ticketing sites no refunds will be offered on ticket purchases.

See the trailer below.

Forget Exorswift: Taylor Swift Eras Tour concert film gets release date to itself as ‘Exorcist’ moves

Look what Taylor Swift made Universal do.

A concert film of Swift’s The Eras Tour is hitting movie theaters Friday, Oct. 13. That was going to be the same day as the next installment of the “The Exorcist” horror franchise. Now the demonic possession film will be released Oct. 6, distributor Universal announced hours after Swift said when her movie would hit.

Alas, the opportunity for a new Barbenheimer is lost. Earlier this summer,  Warner Bros. Discovery’ s “Barbie” and  Universal’ s “Oppenheimer” hit theaters on the same day, July 21, leading to a double-feature cultural event and  driving  massive box office sales.

The makings for the next big crazy movie double feature were there. Soon after news broke about the Eras Tour movie release date, the #Exorswift hashtag started to catch on.

Even Jason Blum, who leads Blumhouse, the studio that produced the new horror flick, endorsed the idea.

Blum later tweeted, however, the hashtag #TaylorWins.

“The Exorcist: Believer” takes place 50 years after the original film. The film stars Leslie Odom Jr. of “Hamilton” fame and Ellen Burstyn, who starred in the 1973 demonic possession classic.

Could pop star royalty like Swift and two young girls possessed by the devil have had the same effect as Barbenheimer?

“The Eras Tour has been the most meaningful, electric experience of my life so far and I’m overjoyed to tell you that it’ll be coming to the big screen soon,” Swift  posted  Thursday on X, the site formerly known as Twitter.

Swift’s concert film documents the wildly popular tour that raked in millions and was on its way to  hit  a record-breaking $1 billion in sales earlier this summer.

The film will play at the nation’s largest theater chains including  AMC , Regal and  Cinemark  on weekends until Nov. 5. AMC shares fell more than 1% Thursday, while Cinemark’s rose more than 1%.

Additionally, LOOK Cinemas, B&B Theatres, Malco Theatres, Marcus Theatres and Harkins Theatres, alongside other smaller chains will showcase the filmed concert.

The film release comes at a time when Hollywood is grappling with dual labor strikes and the departure of films like Warner Bros. and Legendary Entertainment’s “Dune: Part II” from the 2023 film slate.

“This was the biggest concert event of the year and so many Swifties have been unable to see her live,” said Karen Melton, vice president of marketing at Malco Theatres. “We’re excited to make this available to all her fans in our markets.“Malco owns dozens of theaters in Swift’s home state of Tennessee.

Tickets for Swift’s Era Tours concert movie are selling fast and expectations are high for its debut weekend. As soon as tickets went on sale, fans encountered wait times and lags at both AMC Theatres’ website and app.

‘I Bet on Myself.’ How Taylor Swift’s Deal With AMC Came Together

taylor swift announces eras tour movie

I n October, Taylor Swift made movie history when the filmed version of her Eras tour hit theaters. It had the biggest ever opening weekend for a concert film, raking in $92.8 million in North American ticket sales. Not only did Swift smash box office records, but she did so while bypassing Hollywood studios and working directly with the theater chain AMC.

In an interview for TIME’s 2023 Person of the Year story , Swift explained the movie’s non-traditional path to the big screen—including how she met with studios, but decided against working with them. “Ultimately I did what I tend to do more and more often these days, which is bet on myself,” she said. And that bet paid off— Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour is the second-biggest October debut ever, and has made over $250 million at the global box office. Directed by Sam Wrench and produced by Swift herself, the movie was filmed over several shows in Los Angeles, the final stop of the first U.S. leg of her tour, in August 2023.

As first reported by Puck and confirmed to TIME by the pop star, Taylor Swift’s father Scott Swift connected with Adam Aron, the CEO of AMC, to make the deal happen. She credited her father with the idea to pursue the atypical route and circumvent the studios: “My dad just said, ‘Why does there have to be a—for lack of a better word—middleman?” His picking up the phone to make that call was very much in character. “My dad, he will call people. He's been doing this since I was born,” she explained. “My dad is the friendliest man in the world. He’ll meet someone in an airport lounge in 1972 and still talk to him every week now." In the story, Swift credits her family with some of her best ideas. “We work together because it's just a really exciting thing to do as a family,” she says. “I always joke that we're a small family business.”

The film arrived at a critical time for movie theaters, which were staring down a bleak early fall after the success of Barbie and Oppenheimer this summer. Many studios postponed movie releases due to the SAG-AFTRA strike, which generally prohibited actors from promoting projects for struck companies, and theaters were preparing to feel that loss in ticket sales. But the Eras Tour movie proved to be a lifeline—it broke AMC’s single-day advance ticket sales record by bringing in $26 million within 24 hours of the movie going on sale. It also made going to the movie an event, with fans dressing up and swapping friendship bracelets at their screenings. Because there is no studio involvement, Swift and AMC take home around 57% of the ticket sales, with the rest going to the theaters. (The theaters also get to keep concession sales).

A few weeks after Swift announced Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour , Beyoncé revealed that a filmed version of her Renaissance tour would be arriving in December. Renaissance: A Film By Beyoncé , which hit theaters on Dec. 1, was also released directly by AMC and without any studio participation. Swift acknowledged the historic nature of both artists’ deals, and how much she appreciates Beyoncé’s approach to the industry. “She’s the most precious gem of a person—warm and open and funny,” Swift says. “And she’s such a great disruptor of music-industry norms. She taught every artist how to flip the table and challenge archaic business practices.”

Soon, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour will be available to stream at home. Beginning on Dec. 13, Swift’s birthday, the movie can be rented on a variety of streaming platforms. The streaming version will feature some songs cut from the movie, including “Long Live,” “Wildest Dreams,” and “The Archer.”

Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour Movie Reaches Impressive Box Office Milestone

  • Oops! Something went wrong. Please try again later. More content below

Taylor Swift ’s record-breaking concert film, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour , has achieved yet another massive feat at the global box office. Following previous reports about the title’s box office earnings, AMC announced that the concert film has grossed more than $250 million worldwide, quickly becoming one of the most successful films of 2023.

Already considered the most successful concert film of all time, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour — which the singer and her team financed themselves — currently stands at number 19 on the global highest-grossing releases of 2023, surpassing the crime thriller Sound of Freedom and the action fantasy film Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves .

Will there be a digital release for Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour?

The “Out of the Woods” hitmaker has recently announced that she teamed up with Universal Pictures Home Entertainment for the digital release of Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour (Extended Version) , which will be available to purchase on the date of her 34th birthday on December 13.

Retailing for $19.89 — which is a nice retail price decision, considering the recent release of “1989 (Taylor’s Version)” — the extended edition of The Eras Tour will feature three songs that were not included on the theatrical release, including “Wildest Dreams,” “The Archer,” and “Long Live.”

The Eras Tour pays homage to the singer-songwriter’s musical journey, performing songs from her ten studio albums, including Reputation, Lover, Folklore, Evermore, Midnights, and her first self-titled studio album. Swift has also re-released four out of her six earlier albums, which include Fearless (Taylor’s Version), Red (Taylor’s Version), Speak Now (Taylor’s Version), and 1989 (Taylor’s Version).

The concert movie will also return to theaters this Thursday, coinciding with the upcoming release of Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé , which will soon bring fans to Beyoncé’s equally successful Renaissance tour.

Taylor swift announces eras tour movie, amc stock pops.

Taylor Swift announced on Thursday her Eras Tour will be heading to movie theaters in October, sending AMC stock ( AMC ) up as much as 6%.

The pop star confirmed a film version of her show will debut in theaters, beginning on October 13.

In a separate press release , AMC called the movie the "theatrical event of the Millennium." Other theater stocks like IMAX ( IMAX ) and Cinemark ( CNK ) also moved higher on the news.

The release will be a welcome event for theater chains struggling to fill the rest of the year's box office slate amid the ongoing Hollywood strikes .

Warner Bros.' ( WBD ) "Dune" sequel was recently delayed to March 2024 after originally scheduled for November 2023.

Kevin Klowden, chief global strategist at the Milken Institute, estimated the current strikes will soon cost the national economy $5 billion-plus, upwardly revising his previous estimate of $4 billion.

"The main thing we're really factoring into it is the lost wages," Klowden told Yahoo Finance Live in an interview on Tuesday.

On top of lost wages, Klowden said delayed films like "Dune" and canceled programming, such as Amazon's "A League of Their Own," will also heavily contribute to losses.

Amid the ongoing strikes, there were still quite a few positives within the entertainment industry this summer as Taylor Swift, fellow performer Beyoncé, and the box office success of "Barbenheimer" helped lift the US economy in the third quarter.

Combined, the concerts and blockbuster films are expected to add $8.5 billion to US growth in the current quarter, according to a new note from Morgan Stanley released on Wednesday.

"Consumer spending in 3Q23 is benefitting from large one-offs in consumer spending on 'Barbenheimer,' Taylor Swift's 'The Eras' tour, and Beyoncé's 'Renaissance' tour," Morgan Stanley economist Sarah Wolfe wrote.

Still, the analyst warned the lack of those "one-off" events could have the opposite effect on the economy in the back half of the year: "The unwinding of these events, combined with the expiration of the student loan moratorium equal 1.4% downside to real [Personal Consumption Expenditures] in 4Q23."

As Swift's shows in North America come to a close, perhaps the theatrical release of the Eras Tour will lead to an additional boost.

Taylor Swift Announces that ‘The Eras Tour’ Concert Movie will Be Available On Demand in December

This will be an extended version of the cinematic release, which will include more music from the concert.

  • Taylor Swift has announced a video-on-demand date for ‘The Eras Tour’ concert movie.
  • The home entertainment version will include additional song footage.
  • ‘The Eras Tour’ has earned more than $178 million in the United States.

It has been a banner few months for Taylor Swift fans, in between the wildly successful Eras Tour and new releases of old albums retooled to bring them back into Swift’s ownership.

And, of course, there was the cinematic release of ‘ The Eras Tour ’, the eponymous concert film that gave those unable to get tickets to the live version a chance to enjoy the tour –– at least, in edited form.

Should any Swifties have not made it to theaters to see the movie (and its box office suggest many did), then there is more good news –– ‘The Eras Tour’ is about to hit its video on demand home entertainment stage.

The multi-award-winning singer-songwriter hit social media to make the announcement for the video-on-demand release of the concert movie. And it’ll happen, in keeping with her numerical preferences, on her birthday…

The on demand version will feature an expanded set list from the 169-minute theatrical version, as guessed by fans.

Yet Even with “Wildest Dreams,” “The Archer” and “Long Live” added, it still won’t include every song Swift performed on most or many of the tour dates.

“Cardigan” is the only set standby still apparently unaccounted for, while “No Body No Crime,” which did not figure into the entire tour but was performed by Swift with Haim at the shows in August that were filmed at L.A.’s SoFi Stadium remains MIA.

What is the Eras Tour?

The tour, which as the title suggests sees the singer/songwriter performing music from her various career “eras”, has been a massive triumph. The concert was attended by more than three million Swifties during the first leg of its U.S. run.

Not only did it shatter all concert sales records, but it also left tens of millions of fans wanting more, either because they attended the concert and wanted to see it again, or after being unable to obtain tickets for sold out performance after sold out performance.

While the first leg in the States concluded last month, Swift has also just finished playing South America, with further dates planned for the tour, including Europe and more next year.

The movie has grossed $178 million in the United States, as of this past weekend, setting a record for a concert film many times over.

All 3 Versions Of Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour Movie, Ranked

Screen Rant

Taylor swift's perfect the eras tour movie sequel was revealed 5 years ago.

The perfect sequel to Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour movie can be modelled after one project that was first announced almost five years ago.

  • The Eras Tour brought Taylor Swift the biggest year of her career, with record-breaking success and new accomplishments.
  • Swift should follow up The Eras Tour concert movie with a documentary similar to her 2020 release, Miss Americana, which took fans behind the scenes of her Reputation Stadium Tour and the making of her album Lover.
  • A potential documentary following The Eras Tour and her new album The Tortured Poets Department could also delve into Swift's sensationalized personal life and serve as a career retrospective.

The perfect sequel idea for Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour dates back to one announcement from five years ago. Since the beginning of The Eras Tour on March 17, 2023, Swift has had the biggest year of her career. Not only did she embark on a record-breaking world tour and release The Eras Tour concert movie that broke box office and streaming records, but she also dropped two re-recorded Taylor's Version albums, won countless awards including two Grammys, entered her most high-profile relationship in years, and became an NFL darling (or, for some embittered football fans, an enemy).

Now that The Eras Tour (Taylor's Version) is officially streaming on Disney+, her focus can shift to the release of Swift's next album, The Tortured Poets Department , on April 19, 2024. Swift first announced the album during her Grammys' acceptance speech for Best Pop Vocal Album on February 4, revealing that she'd been keeping it a secret for two years. TTPD releases just a few weeks before Swift goes back on The Eras Tour on May 9, creating the perfect timeline for a follow-up film to The Eras Tour movie, for which Swift already created the template years ago.

Taylor Swift's Next Album Sets Up A New Eras Tour Movie Cameo That Would Make Up For Cutting HAIM

Taylor swift's best the eras tour movie follow-up is a miss americana-style documentary, swift released the miss americana documentary after the reputation stadium tour concert movie.

As a follow-up to The Eras Tour movie, Swift should release a documentary similar to Miss Americana , which included behind-the-scenes footage of Swift's 2018 Reputation Stadium Tour and showed the creation and rollout of her next album Lover. Swift began writing and recording Lover after wrapping up The Reputation Stadium Tour on November 21, 2018. A month later, Swift released the concert movie Taylor Swift: Reputation Stadium Tour on Netflix on New Year's Eve. Swift then announced the release of Miss Americana on November 14, 2019, a week shy of a year after The Reputation Stadium Tour ended.

Just like she did with Miss Americana after the Reputation movie, Swift should follow up The Eras Tour movie with a documentary showing the behind-the-scenes of the tour and the process of making The Tortured Poets Department. Unlike the Reputation movie, all three versions of The Eras Tour movie were released while Swift was simply on hiatus from touring. However, if Swift released a documentary after wrapping up The Eras Tour in December 2024, it would follow a similar release timeline as Miss Americana, which came out more than a year after the Reputation movie and five months after Lover.

While Miss Americana covered a lot of ground, Swift would have even more to break down in a post-Eras Tour documentary.

There's One Perfect Way To Make Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour 2 Happen On Disney+

The eras tour movie's behind the scenes documentary potential is way bigger than reputation, swift has even more to cover in an eras tour documentary.

Along with taking viewers behind the scenes of the Reputation Stadium Tour and the making of Lover, Miss Americana also served as an intimate and in-depth look at Swift's interior life in the wake of her famous phone call scandal with Kanye West and Kim Kardashian which resulted in her disappearance from public life and eventual comeback. Swift unpacked how she " had to deconstruct an entire belief system, toss it out and reject it " after her fall from grace. She also discussed her private relationship with then-boyfriend Joe Alwyn as well as her breaking her political silence in 2018.

Since The Eras Tour is a celebration of all of Swift's musical eras, a documentary could also serve as a career retrospective.

While Miss Americana covered a lot of ground, Swift would have even more to break down in a post-Eras Tour documentary. In addition to her record-breaking world tour and Album of the Year win at the Grammys, Swift's personal life has received more attention than ever due to her breakup with Alwyn, fling with The 1975's Matty Healey, and new relationship with Chiefs' player Travis Kelce. Although Travis Kelce does not appear in The Eras Tour movie , it would make sense for the NFL star to be part of a documentary chronicling the time when the power couple started dating.

Swift's Album of the Year win for Midnights at the 2024 Grammys marked her fourth win after Fearless in 2010, 1989 in 2016, and folklore in 2021, breaking the record for most Album of the Year wins by any artist.

Taylor Swift's 8 Documentaries & Concert Movies, Ranked (Including Eras Tour)

Since The Eras Tour is a celebration of all of Swift's musical eras, a documentary could also serve as a career retrospective in which Swift looks back at how far she's come since debuting in 2006. This would provide the perfect opportunity to delve into Scooter Braun's controversial purchase of her masters and her subsequent re-recording project. A Miss Americana -style documentary is Swift's best bet at a successful Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour sequel that is distinct enough from the concert movie but still related, while also providing a holistic view of her life and world domination during the tour.

Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour

Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour is a film rendition of the colossal worldwide event that sees the legendary pop star hit the stage in a specially curated film event. Performing the hits of her over seventeen-year career in music, The Eras Tour highlights Taylor Swift and her team as they put on a show of a lifetime.

Taylor Swift officially landed on Forbes’ billionaires list on Tuesday, April 2. But what distinguishes the 34-year-old singer-songwriter from other wealthy artists is how she accumulated her billion-dollar fortune.

The Miss Americana star ranked No. 2,545 on Forbes’ World’s Billionaires List . According to Forbes , there are more billionaires than ever before (141 more than last year and 26 more than the 2021 record), with their collective worth reaching $14.2 trillion. Swift’s inclusion comes after Forbes declared the singer a billionaire in October 2023 and reported her net worth at $1.1 billion.

In a rare feat, Swift is the first musician to reach the milestone solely from songwriting and performing. Her fortune doesn’t largely derive from profitable side hustles (think: beauty brands, fashion lines, alcohol investments, etc.), which have been typical avenues for entertainers to become billionaires in recent years. This puts her in a unique category with artists like Bruce Springsteen, who earned $1 billion from on the road touring.

More than $500 million of Swift’s fortune is from music royalties and touring. She made an estimated $190 million after taxes from the first leg of the Eras tour and another $35 million from the first two weeks of screenings of the corresponding concert film, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour , which became the highest-grossing concert movie in history.

Meanwhile, another $500 million of her earnings came from the increasing value of her music catalog. Her masters (Swift’s first six albums) were infamously purchased in 2019 by Scooter Braun and eventually sold to Shamrock Capital for $300 million in 2020.

“This is my worst case scenario. This is what happens when you sign a deal at fifteen to someone for whom the term ‘loyalty’ is clearly just a contractual concept,” Swift penned on Tumblr in 2019 when she learned that Braun had bought her masters. “Now Scooter has stripped me of my life’s work, that I wasn’t given an opportunity to buy. Essentially, my musical legacy is about to lie in the hands of someone who tried to dismantle it.”

At the time, Swift also parted ways with her long-time home, Big Machine Label Group, to join Universal Music Group’s Republic Records, a deal that would give the superstar complete ownership over songwriting and the recordings, ultimately boosting her earnings in the long run.

"I'm ecstatic to announce that my musical home will be Republic Records and Universal Music Group," Swift wrote on Instagram about the news. "Over the years, [UMG chief] Sir Lucian Grainge and [Republic chief] Monte Lipman have been such incredible partners. It's so thrilling to me that they, and the UMG team, will be my label family moving forward. It's also incredibly exciting to know that I'll own all of my master recordings that I make from now on."

Since switching labels, Swift has released four new albums, Lover, Folklore, Evermore and Midnights, and re-recorded Fearless (Taylor’s Version), Red (Taylor’s Version), Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) and 1989 (Taylor’s Version ). Swift’s the sole writer on over one-fourth of her top 50 Billboard chart hits, although she frequently shares writing credits with collaborators like Jack Antonoff and Max Martin, who also get a portion of a record sale.

On April 19, the pop star will release her 11th studio album, The Tortured Poets Department, which will also add to her massive earnings. Swift announced the new record during her Album of the Year win acceptance speech at the 2024 Grammy Awards in February.

While becoming a billionaire, the singer made a huge monetary impact on the NFL. Swift created a brand value equivalent of $331.5 million for the Chiefs and the league, according to data from Apex Marketing Group . That number comes from print, digital, radio, TV, highlights, and social media mentioning Swift from her first game on Sept. 24 to Jan. 22.

One of Swift’s many accomplishments from last year also includes being named Time Magazine’s 2023 Person of the Year. In her interview with journalist Sam Lansky, Swift told the magazine that “this is the proudest and happiest I’ve ever felt, and the most creatively fulfilled and free I’ve ever been.”

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce Are 'All About Quality Time Together' Before Singer Heads Back on Tour (Exclusive Source)

A source tells PEOPLE the pair is "very happy" spending time together before Swift's Eras Tour resumes in May

Rob Carr/Getty

Free time looks good on Taylor Swift  and  Travis Kelce .

After the pair attended the 2024 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival over the weekend, a source tells PEOPLE the couple is "very happy" spending time together before Swift's Eras Tour resumes in May.

"They are very supportive of each other. They're enjoying solo dates, but have also been hanging out with their friends," says the insider, after Swift and Kelce, both 34, were spotted hanging out with Sabrina Carpenter , Barry Keoghan , Ice Spice and more pals at the music festival in Indio, California.

Gilbert Flores/WWD via Getty

"Everyone loves Travis," adds the source. "He's super friendly and easygoing."

Swift and Kelce "were both excited to attend Coachella together," continues the insider of the pair's attendance at the three-day event, where they watched performances by Bleachers, Ice Spice, Dom Dolla and more artists. "They're all about quality time together before Taylor resumes her tour."

The "All Too Well" singer-songwriter has been on a break from her blockbuster Eras Tour since wrapping a string of shows in Australia and Asia in March. She'll hit the road once again next month with four performances in France before continuing the tour's European leg through Aug. 20.

Before the Eras Tour kicks back off, however, Swift will release her new studio album, The Tortured Poets Department , on April 19. She announced the project during her 2024 Grammys acceptance speech for best pop vocal album for  Midnights in February.

She teased the first lyric from the album ahead of the total solar eclipse on April 8 as she posted a video to social media of a typewriter typing, "Crowd goes wild at her fingertips / Half moonshine, Full eclipse."

On Sunday, April 14, Swift posted to Instagram once again to share a photo of the album's clear vinyl variant alongside the lyric, "I wish I could un-recall how we almost had it all."

As for Kelce, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end is currently preparing to make his game show host debut on Prime Video's celebrity-version of  Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader? — which will fittingly be titled, Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity?

'Error 321': Chicago QR code mural links to 'Tortured Poets' and Taylor Swift

taylor swift announces eras tour movie

We are only three nights away from the world premiere of Taylor Swift's "The Tortured Poets Department," and Swifties are going wild over a new mural that appeared in Chicago Monday evening.

Painters were seen on a green scissor lift in the River North district ( 25 W Grand Ave, Chicago, IL 60654 ) of the Windy City creating a QR code out of "ttpd" letters and "13" numbers. When people scanned the code with their phone cameras, it took them to a 13 second YouTube short attached to Swift's page. A line of Swifties stood from the curb below to capture photos and videos and plaster them over TikTok.

The YouTube short animates like a typewriter with the message "Error 321" and a faded "13."

Two hours before the Grammys where Swift announced her 11th era album, her website, taylorswift.com , showed an "Error 321" message and included the scrambled phrase "red herring." There was also a "DPT," which backwards is "TPD" for Tortured Poets Department. Swift loves to create buzz with cryptic messages and Easter eggs ahead of an album release, because she knows a mural in Chicago with a QR code to YouTube will keep Swifties guessing and anticipating the Eras Tour performer's next move.

The album comes out at midnight ET overnight Thursday.

Ice Spice shouts out 'Taylor motherf---ing Swift!' at Coachella as singer makes surprise appearance

EW captured Swift dancing in the crowd during the rapper's performance on Saturday.

Even if Taylor Swift wasn't on the Coachella 2024 lineup, Saturday still became Coachella (Taylor's Version).

A week before the release of her highly anticipated new album, The Tortured Poets Department (out April 19), the "Is It Over Now?" singer took time out to support her friends Jack Antonoff and Ice Spice , showing up to dance at both their Coachella sets. But Ice Spice gave her fans gathered at the Sahara stage something they never expected when she began playing her remix of Swift's song "Karma."

Kevin Mazur/TAS23/Getty

"Shout out to Taylor motherf---ing Swift!" Ice Spice yelled. "I love you!"

Then, as the song began playing, Swift, who was with her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, in the crowd, cheered and put her hands up. Swift and Kelce danced together as Ice Spice launched into her version of "Karma."

Watch our video of the moment below.

Swift has never performed at the Indio, Calif. music festival herself. She has attended once before, but just as an attendee, in 2016. The star dubbed her first Coachella experience "BLEACHELLA," revealing her new bleach-blonde bob and rocking a lightning bolt jacket in support of her then-boyfriend Calvin Harris, referencing his collaboration with  Rihanna , "This Is What You Came For." Fans later learned that Swift actually co-wrote the song under her pseudonym, Nils Sjoberg.

Swift and Ice Spice's friendship began when they worked together on a remix of Swift’s "Karma," released in May 2023. Swift said she was a "massive fan" of the "Think U the S--- (Fart)" rapper (real name: Isis Naija Gaston), and then Ice Spice joined Swift on stage during the New Jersey stop of her  Eras Tour later that month . They have since been spotted together at events including the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards and the 2024 Super Bowl, where they celebrated Kelce's win with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Taylor Swift Sings Along to ‘Karma’ During Ice Spice’s Set at Coachella With Travis Kelce: Watch

The 'All Too Well' singer supported her pal and was seen jamming out to her own song when Ice Spice performed her remix of Taylor Swift's song.

Taylor Swift   showed love to her friend  Ice Spice   during her set at Coachella on Saturday, April 13. The popstar, 34, was spotted down in the crowd, singing and dancing along to her own song “Karma,” while she cozied up to her boyfriend   Travis Kelce , 34, during the rapper’s set. Taylor looked like she was having a blast as she cheered on Ice Spice, 24.

While Ice Spice played her remix of the  Midnights  track, fans filmed Taylor singing and dancing along with Travis down in the crowd. The “Shake It Off” singer had her hands raised in the air and sang along, while the Kansas City Chiefs player also had his arms up, showing off some of his dance moves. Taylor screamed shortly after the chorus ended.

In the crowd, Taylor rocked a black leather jacket and her signature blonde locks were blowing in the wind. Later in the night, the singer was also seen supporting her beau’s podcast  New Heights  by wearing one of its green hats, via  Women’s Wear Daily. Travis rocked a white plaid shirt, white t-shirt, and a matching Happy Gilmore  baseball cap. He also sported a pair of shades and had a bunch of bracelets on.

Taylor debuted her “Karma” remix with Ice Spice as part of the deluxe Till Dawn edition of her album Midnights back in May 2023. She shouted her out as she announced the collab. “I’m a massive fan of this brilliant artist and after getting to know her I can confirm: she is THE ONE to watch,” she wrote. Just after releasing the debut, Taylor welcomed the rapper onstage at her “Eras Tour” concert in East Rutherford, NJ.

Besides the remix with Ice Spice, the song also has some significance in Taylor’s romance with Travis. The singer shouted out her beau by changing a lyric during her concert in Buenos Aires, Argentina in November 2023. “Karma is the guy on the Chiefs, coming straight home to me,” she sang, while the tight end attended her show.
