We were touring all of Chile. So the pick up at the airport was fine, no issues and taken to our hotel straight away, we had been advised to sleep as soon as we got there to get used to the altitude. Sleep we did (our flight was at 3 in the morning), the trip on the first day was delayed as we were given the wrong time, but not a bid deal, this happened on 2 tours. The first tour of the Moon Valley was fantastic, I really enjoyed it more than I thought the landscape out of this world (no pun intended). the guide was very knowledgeable and very friendly. I think it would be fair to say she was liked by all! The next tour was the geysers, this was bitterly cold and I also suffered attitude sickness, I had forgotten to take the sweets that I bought. I felt awful but continued slowly. The geysers were not as I expected, I did expect them to be more dramatic but it was just bubbling gently from the ground although there was one which was a little more of an attempt of spouting but unfortunately I was not very impressed. We stopped by the salted water lakes and there were flamingos there -beautiful, we also saw donkeys, vicunas and rabbits. The last tour was the hidden lagoons, the colour of the water was incredible, it was almost turquoise, the salted earths and landscapes very much an experience. The tour guide was informative. Although there are 2 water areas which can be bathed we were told to use the larger one, we were to bath and dry in the air and when we got back to the bus they would hose us down, which they did. The ability to float in the salted water with the buoyancy was undesirable as you really needed to be there. I felt this trip was ok, I am a swimmer so it was completely different to anything I've tried before. Only gripe would be that there were a lot of people there so it was difficult to take pictures. All tour had a bite to eat with some drinks which was a nice touch. The accommodation was comfortable, clean and adequate. I would have preferred to have been given the choice of a hotel, due to the times of the tours we could have spent some time relaxing perhaps by a pool but there was no pool in this package. Would be good to get the choice even if it means paying that little bit more. San Pedro De Atacama is a lovely place, people were wonderfully friendly, we also added a Star Gazing to the trip - see my other reviews. Would I recommend this trip... knowing what I know now, I probably would have been better arranging everything myself, hindsight is wonderful thing! Our guide to Valle de la Luna and Cejar Lagoon was Giulia. She was excellent at explaining the surrounding landscapes in both Spanish and Italian. Her manner was welcoming and she was most informative. Our guide to the Geysers of Tateo was Nicole. She was passionate about the special places of the high Andes and was brilliant at describing everything. The only issue with these tours is everybody is doing them and you are just another white bus and at some locations it seems like everyone is there which deflates the experience. Nicole did take us to the white Geyser and this was a personal and much appreciated experience. There also seems to be this thing about providing cocktail and snacks or breakfast on a little table by the bus. All the buses do it and I wonder why? Sometimes it is unnecessary and you actually would shorten the excursion time if this wasn’t included and that would be preferable especially on the Geyser day when we had to get the bus at 4am! The other issue I had was being collected from our hotel and then dumped in town at the conclusion of the excursion . This is probably fine if your hotel is in St Pedro but a bit of a rude awakening if you have a 20 minute night walk in darkness back to your hotel because you assumed you’d be taken home. Instead of offering an alternative, they cancelled my booking while I was chatting with someone on their business WhatsApp. They also had a huge problem offering this in English because I called the tour operator about an airport transfer and the person I spoke with seemed to say "this is Chile so we speak Spanish". We had a limited number of days in San Pedro and this made it a lot easier to decide what to do with our time. The drivers and guides for each were all very communicative, accommodating, and helpful. The tours are set-up for more photo taking opportunities than physical activity - we missed hiking/walking around the areas and were constantly in and out of the van. No complaints there but if you're planning, just to be aware, as we would've enjoyed more time in each location to walk and explore vs. take and wait for others to take photos. Firstly, we had great trips seeing the lagoon and swimming in it and visiting the geysers. In the latter trip, our guide was absolutely great being a scientifically educated enthusiast for all types of questions around geyser biology and geology. The tours were mostly on time and the guides made sure we had a good experience. Unfortunately, our trip to see the night sky could not take place on the set date which is why it was moved to the last night. Originally, our tours for the last day were scheduled to be finished by afternoon. Therefore, we had planned to go back to Calama in the afternoon. We had a hotel booked there and a flight scheduled early the next morning. Raising this issue to our dedicated tour contact, we received little support. Given that we did not have good internet, only mobile devices and little proficiency in Spanish, we struggled for hours to rearrange our travel plan. We ended up going to Calama by a private taxi which costs us ca. USD 100 instead of taking the much more affordable bus. Since we couldn’t cancel the hotel in Calama anymore, we paid a full stay while only spending 3-4 hours of sleeping time there. Overall, we understand that you cannot plan nature / the night sky. Nonetheless, we book a tour online (and pay a premium to the provider) so that we do not lose time planning while being on holiday. We had the feeling that our tour contact was annoyed by us needing to re-plan and by us asking for help. We lost time, lost a proper night of sleep and had extra costs which all did not seem to interest the provider at all. Therefore, we cannot recommend taking the tour. Floating in Laguna Cejar was so refreshing paired with an excellent view. I appreciated seeing the two different lakes and taking in the gorgeous viewpoints along the way. We ended the trip with some delicious snacks and the essential Chilean drink: pisco sours. I will say be prepared for the entry fees for each park as they were a bit steeper in price than I had anticipated. I suggest coming prepared with cash (about $20.000 CLP/person). We can rent both visual and photographic telescopes to the knowledgeable amateur astronomer. Photographic telescopes are polar aligned and ready to use. We provide a checkin on the telescopes, telling you how they work, mainly for the photographic telescopes.

We offer a general star tours each clear night, apart from a possible small period around the full moon. We can also offer specialized star tours and other offers for travel agencies.

Astronomy Tour

This astronomical tour is offered every night, with the exception of 5 nights a month when there is a full moon.

We will observe the deep sky through high-end computerised and hand-held telescopes. Depending on the time of year we will be able to observe: planets, open and closed clusters, galaxies and stars. In addition we will be able to relate the visible constellations of the southern hemisphere with the help of a laser pointer. If you want to know about the Andean archaeo-astronomy of Latin America you should ask Patricio who is the speaker in the explanatory talk about how our American ancestors related the cosmos to the geographical and cultural area.

9:00 PM: Transportation to Ayllu de Cucuter, where the sky opens up to connect us with the cosmos.

• Cosmological introduction and recognition of the celestial vault through constellations.
• Astrophotography and observation of at least 7 objects through high-end telescopes, including image stacking and deep space astrophotography with the Evscope. Moreover, you will have the opportunity to do personal and couples astrophotography, as well as enjoy slow-motion shots and deep space astrophotography at no additional cost.

Astronomical tour San Pedro de Atacama

Live the experience of an astronomical tour in the desert, admiring the cleanest skies on the planet. Observation of the sky with the naked eye and subsequent observation of the sky through high-end telescopes, 40 cm in diameter.

Informative astronomical talk under our wonderful sky that allows us to have a photograph where the sky is the main protagonist.

General Information

• Shared transportation.
• Bilingual guide (Spanish – English).
• Hotel pickup (urban area of San Pedro).

We will pick you up at the hotel, to move to the place where this astronomical tour will take place, under the cleanest skies in the world for the practice of astronomy. The day will be divided into three stages, the first being an induction of basic concepts of astronomy.

In the second stage, we will observe the skies with the naked eye, to learn to locate the cardinal points and the constellations, in addition to learning about the Andean worldview.

The last stage includes observation through professional telescopes and open field binoculars, so that we can identify the objects that are visible at the time we carry out the activity. Among which are planets, binary stars, open and globular clusters, and much more.

We will also take astrophotographs and group photos before returning to the town of San Pedro de Atacama.
