The 49 Best Gift Cards for Travel Lovers

We’ve rounded up the best gift cards for any travel lover on your shopping list.

We independently evaluate all recommended products and services. If you click on links we provide, we may receive compensation. Learn more .

The benefits of travel are impossible to wrap up neatly with a bow. You just can’t put a price tag on an impossibly beautiful view , the experience touching down on a new continent , or that life-changing conversation with a local who lives oceans away . That said, a travel-related gift card is probably the closest you’ll get to giving the actual gift of travel to your loved ones (without booking their flights or hotels for them, anyway!).

You’ll want to make sure to select a gift card you know they will be able to put to use. If your loved ones always fly Delta, for example, you won’t want to select a gift card from a different airline. If they’re planning a backpacking trip through South America in the near future, they’ll benefit much more from a Columbia gift card, where they can stock up on camping and hiking gear, versus one from a luxe hotel chain.

Below, we’ve rounded up some of the best gift cards for jetsetters, from cruise lines and airlines to the top luggage and accessory brands.

Southwest Airlines Gift Card

Southwest Airlines

Southwest is known for offering booking flexibility with no hidden costs, and the airline consistently ranks on our World's Best domestic airlines list. If you've got a friend or family member who's looking to plan their dream trip, you'll be their new favorite person with this pick.

Delta eGift Card

Delta’s SkyMiles offers one of the best rewards programs in the business — which is why there are so many frequent flyers who swear by the airline. The Delta eGift Card is particularly practical as you can purchase one to instantly email to your favorite traveler, making it an exceptional ultra-last-minute gift.

Hotels.com Gift Card

Expedia's hotel arm, Hotels.com, is one of the best places to score hotel bookings and packages for less. The site is always offering savings at some of the top spots around the world, whether you book for now or later. You'll effectively be gifting a discount and taking care of the bill, too.

Airbnb Gift Card

 Amazon

There’s something about checking into an Airbnb that can feel a lot cozier for certain travelers, especially if they’re planning a long-term trip to a new city. The gift of an Airbnb gift card will give them the leeway to select their own unique apartment or home anywhere in the world while still cutting down the overall cost of their trip.

Princess Cruise Lines Gift Card

Princess Cruise Lines

Princess Cruise Lines sails to 380 cruise destinations across more than 100 countries — and all seven continents — which makes this an excellent option for the traveler on your list who has been planning a bucket list cruise for ages. Gift cards are available for as little as $50 and as much as $500 (but you can always purchase a custom amount).

Holland America Gift Card

Holland America

Holland America Line was founded nearly 150 years ago in 1873, and has continued to be one of the most trusted cruise lines on the sea. The premium ships are smaller than most cruise lines which will give them a much more intimate experience; the average guest also tends to be a bit older which makes this option great for travel fiends who prefer a more laid-back experience at sea.

Amtrak Gift Card

Shopping for a travel lover who prefers riding the rails to boarding flights? Amtrak gift cards are available from $25 to $250 and will allow them to book a train journey anywhere in the United States, and select destinations in Canada. We also love that this option can be emailed directly to the recipient at a scheduled date and time.

Starbucks Gift Card

We know, we know. Part of the thrill of travel is experiencing the local customs and culinary offerings — and that includes coffee culture. But sometimes we just need that venti iced caramel macchiato to shake off the jet lag. The only thing you’ll want to keep in mind is that Starbucks cards don’t work in every country, so giftees won’t be able to use an U.S card in most places in Europe or Asia, for example, but Ireland, Australia, and the U.K. should be fine.

Nordstrom Gift Card

Not exactly sure when or where your favorite traveler is planning their next escape? No worries since a Nordstrom gift card offers infinite possibilities. Whether they need a new suitcase or carry-on duffel bag, or they’re looking to invest in a few new swimsuits for a winter getaway, there are thousands of practical (and pretty) items available both in-store and online.

Foot Locker Gift Card

Foot Locker

It doesn’t matter if they’re planning a backpacking trip around Southeast Asia or they’ve booked a weeklong vineyard-hopping experience in France, it always pays to have a comfortable pair of walking shoes. A gift card to Foot Locker will allow travelers to choose the stylish and practical sneakers, sandals, or boots that best suit their specific needs and preferences. (This option also offers email delivery for those ultra-last-minute shoppers.)

Uber Gift Card

Navigating a new city can be stressful, especially when you first touch down at the airport after a long-haul flight. Thankfully, Uber is now available in many parts of the world and even has designated airport pick-up zones, making a gift certificate not only a smart idea but one that will help you rest easy, knowing your loved one can make it from point A to point B safely.

Amazon Gift Card

When you think of traveling, your first instinct might not be to shop online, but it’s easy to get all sorts of before-they-go essentials here from packing cubes to portable chargers and suitcases under $100 . If your pal is already subscribed to Amazon Prime, a gift card to this marketplace will help them keep their bags stocked even quicker.

Apple Gift Card

Have a digitally nomadic friend who you constantly have to locate via Instagram? They've mastered the skill of booking a flight at the drop of a hat and finding the cheapest last-minute hotel deal, but they could always use a little insurance for their most valuable asset: their technology. With an Apple gift card, they'll be able to buy accessories they need or enjoy a little discount if their laptop or iPhone bites the dust on the road.

Air Canada Gift Card

Looking to find the right gift for your travel-loving pal up north? Air Canada gift cards are a great option for anyone who regularly travels between the U.S. and Canada, as well as Canadians who travel internationally as the airline currently serves more than 220 destinations worldwide on six continents.

Zappos Gift Card

For trips where much of the sightseeing will take place on foot, a gift card to Zappos will help your friend find the most comfortable shoes for these upcoming plans. Whether they’re in the market for winter boots for a mountain escape or sandals for an upcoming beach vacation, there’s something to suit every kind of traveler.

CheapOair Gift Card

Whether they’re planning a trip in the next few months or they’re still saving for a dream European vacation, you can still give the gift of adventure with a CheapoAir gift card, since they never expire. CheapOair will allow your loved one to search for the least expensive routes and flight paths and start planning their dream trip, whenever that might be.

Columbia Gift Card

After months of training, your sister is finally setting out to hike the Appalachian Trail all by her bad self. Express your support and encouragement with a gift card to Columbia, one of the leading trusted brands in outdoor wear. Depending on how generous you're feeling, you can outfit her with a tent, an insulated jacket, a backpack, and much more.

Fluent City Gift Card

Fluent City

If being able to speak another language comfortably has always been a goal for your mom as she plans her dream trip to Rome, consider giving the gift of the spoken word. Right now, Fluent City offers both private and group language lessons online. Even if it's a while before she puts her Italian skills to the test, she'll be more than prepared for when she finally arrives.

Away Gift Card

We’ve been big fans of Away luggage for their functional designs, gorgeous colors, and affordable price points ever since the brand’s inception back in 2015. Digital gift cards can be used in-store or online, and you can load the card up to $1,000 (to outfit your loved one with a full set of suitcases and travel accessories).

REI Gift Card

If your travel-loving buddy is more of a backpacker and camper and less of the luxury hotel type, a gift card to REI will be right up their alley. The multi-purpose store stocks everything they could possibly need for their next adventure in the great outdoors, from camping gear and weatherproof apparel to snacks appropriate for trekking in the bush.

Sephora Gift Card

Stocking up on travel-sized skin care and cosmetics is easy at Sephora, with hundreds of well-loved beauty brands offering miniature products to fit in a carry-on without going over the liquid limit. We especially love that Sephora allows you to customize a gift card with your own images or sayings. Let those creative juices flow!

Audible Gift Card

Book-loving travelers know the struggle of wanting to pack enough paperbacks to last the entire trip but also not wanting to run the risk of overweight baggage fees. A gift card for Audible will allow them to download as many books as they want to listen to right on a smartphone instead.

MaidPro Gift Certificate

Nobody likes coming back to a messy house after a long trip, but sometimes there’s just not enough time to tidy up, pack, and make it to the airport in time. A gift certificate to MaidPro will allow travelers to pre-schedule a professional cleaner to come, so all they’ll have to do is unpack and relax in an already tidy home.

Spafinder Gift Card

You might not know the details of your loved ones’ next five-star vacation, but a gift card to SpaFinder lets you give them a little dose of luxury whenever that may be. These gift cards are universal and can be redeemed at thousands of spas across the United States, and all over the world, so you can pretty much guarantee they’ll be able to find an eligible establishment in their future travels.

Marriott International Gift Card

If they’re all about racking in those Bonvoy points, you’ll want to consider a gift certificate to Marriott International. The digital gift cards are universal, which means gift recipients can put them toward their next stay anywhere in the world as long as it falls under the Marriott umbrella (think Ritz-Carlton, St. Regis, Westin, and more).

Fairmont Gift Card

A Fairmont gift card pretty much guarantees a luxurious experience. Whether your jetsetting friend uses it to check into one of the hundreds of historic properties around the world (like the Grand Railway Hotels across Canada, for example), or to enjoy a three-course meal, you know it’ll be put to very good use.

Hilton Gift Card

Whether your pal is a road-trip warrior, luxury enthusiast, or budget-conscious adventurer, a gift card to Hilton will suit them just fine. There is a vast network of brands at all price points — from the budget-friendly Hilton Garden Inn to the five-star Waldorf Astoria. The best part? Hilton gift cards don’t expire so they won’t have to rush to plan their next trip.

If there’s a cruise lover on your shopping list, Holland America gift cards can be used to book sailings worldwide and also for onboard purchases to make the journey even better. Whether your friend is looking to cruise Caribbean, European, or Australian waters, this gift card is the best way to start the trip.

The gift amount will be credited to your friend’s Lyft account so they can use it however, and whenever, they want.

Sometimes, buying a gift for someone who loves to travel can be downright frustrating. You need to know their favorite color, shoe size, preferred destination, and whether they’re Team Android or Team Apple. Gift cards have always been a safe bet – especially for a last-minute gift – but did you know there are almost two dozen fantastic options for travelers?

I’ve compiled a great list of all the physical gift cards you can buy that will directly benefit someone who loves to travel. Airfare, hotels, shopping, and services. These would also make excellent stocking stuffers!

2021 Holiday Gift Guides

Before you can buy the perfect Christmas gift, you have to find it. Each year, I publish a series of Holiday Gift Guides to help you find fantastic travel gear, accessories, unique gifts, and awesome items to put under the tree.

Southwest Airlines

Southwest “consistently ranks” as one of Travel & Leisure’s top domestic airlines. Their flights can take people all over the country to amazing destinations at a low cost. One of these gift cards will go a long way toward giving someone a vacation.

Did you know the further in advance you buy an airline ticket, the cheaper it can be? Help someone plan their next trip with a Delta gift card. Delivered via email or UPS, these gift cards are easy to redeem same as cash for flights with Delta.

American Airlines

“The whole wide world, it comes in a card.” American Airlines offers digital or physical gift cards to help someone plan their next getaway. Go big or small, you can set the amount on the card that can easily be redeemed.

Trains, planes, and automobiles – Amtrak is a favorite way for some people to travel. The Amtrak gift card could go a long way – pun intended – toward helping someone plan their next getaway on the railway.

The popular ride share app has become a staple for getting around destinations as people travel. The Uber gift card – physically delivered – can be redeemed easily through the app.

Carnival Cruise Line

Cruising is rising again in popularity, making the Carnival Cruise Line gift card a good choice. Easily redeemed through the website, the gift card is physically delivered and gives you something to put under the tree or stuffed in a stocking.

Now owned by Expedia, Hotels.com is one of the better apps for quickly and easily booking hotel rooms. Competitive on pricing, the greatest advantage of the free account is collection of “reward nights” – after spending 10 nights booked through the app, 1 free night is available equal to the average of those nights.

Know anybody loyal to staying at Hilton properties? When picking the Hilton gift card you can choose between three designs, add any amount you like, and have the plastic card physically mailed just in time for Christmas.

National Park Week 2024

Learn about the annual celebration of the National Park System and read my travel guides to national park units across the country.

Marriott went a little overboard with their gift cards and it’s wonderful! Choose from dozens of designs, add custom text to the plastic card, include any amount you like, and have the physical card mailed and placed under the Christmas tree.

Best Western

At Best Western, they called their gift card the “Travel Card” because of the versatility. Add amounts in USD, CAD, GBP, or EUR denominations for use around the world and thousands of properties.

Airbnb has become well known for the unique lodgings around the world. Buy someone a few nights at a comfy cottage, unique house, or outstanding apartment in their favorite destination.

The Visa gift card is the most versatile, accepted at almost all locations around the world. No account is needed to begin using the gift cards. Pay for lodging, gas, food, or attractions, the Visa gift card can go a long way toward someone’s vacation.

Smartphones, tablets, headphones – Apple makes a lot of great tech to make travel safer and easier. Fortunately, Apple’s designs have finally expanded from the sterile white to include a variety of colors. Get someone an Apple gift card if you’re not sure what particular item to get them for Christmas.

Without a doubt, the most useful gift card you could get a traveler for Christmas would be from Amazon. Easily redeemed online, these gift cards will allow anyone with a free account to make purchases for a wide arrange of travel items. The gift cards are physically delivered in adorable boxes ready for a bow to be placed under the tree.

With coffee shops around the world, a Starbucks gift card could go a long way toward fueling someone’s next adventure. With a free account through the app, patrons can redeem the gift card and begin collecting stars toward rewards in the future.

Barnes & Noble

One thing in abundance on most vacations is time – time that can be spent catching up that novel series or diving into something entirely new. The Barnes & Noble gift card might be a great option for the book nerd to let them choose their own wordy adventure.

Recreation Equipment, Inc. has been a premier resource for outdoor gear and clothing since the company was founded in 1938. Help someone get their next pair of hiking boots, climbing harness, or backpacking tent with an REI gift card. Available in dozens of designs and loadable with up to $1,000, the physical cards can be mailed just in time for Christmas.

From GPS navigation to noise cancelling headphones, a Best Buy gift card can help purchase a lot of travel tech. Order one of their physical cards, load it with a selection of amounts, and it comes wrapped in a box ready to be put under the tree.

How to give the gift of travel: From using points and miles to booking a vacation package

Andrea M. Rotondo

With the holiday season officially here , you may be wondering what to get that special someone in your life. While some people prefer unwrapping physical presents, others — such as many of the writers here at TPG — enjoy gifting and receiving vacations. Yes, giving the gift of travel may sound a bit complicated, but if you're looking to surprise your spouse, kids, and/or loved ones with a trip , we have some ideas.

And, while we love surprising our friends and families with travel plans, sometimes you need to keep that person in the loop when the gift you want to give them is travel. Are they in a position to take time off from work or family obligations to make the trip? Are you gifting the trip to them and a "plus one" so they don't have to travel alone? Does your recipient even want to travel? These are all valid questions, and they can all be answered in advance of the gift with a few key conversations.

Once you know your recipient would love the gift of travel , here are a few ways to make it happen.

Use your points and miles to book travel

travel gift cards for christmas

If you've got a stash of points and miles that you can't possibly keep all to yourself, gifting some for a loved one's trip is an awesome idea. Since you likely have more knowledge of how these programs work, it's usually best if you handle making the award reservations on their behalf. If you're going on the trip too, consider using your points and miles for your traveling companion and paying cash for yourself if you want to earn a few extra miles to partially replace what you are spending.

Before you make any plans, be sure to check out the current list of bonus transfer offers . If there's a good one that's relevant to booking particular flights or hotels you're interested in, taking advantage of one of these offers can make a lot of sense and save you points and miles. It's a great way to stretch the points and miles you already have.

Book a vacation package or cruise

travel gift cards for christmas

Vacation packages can present a tremendous value when they include airfare, lodging and sometimes even a rental car and excursions. We've seen some solid deals at Costco Travel. And watch for deals from airline vacation departments. For example, Delta Vacations is currently running a Black Friday promotion in which you can save up to $300 on a vacation package. In previous years, we've seen money-off promos for American Airlines vacation packages and British Airways London vacation packages (airfare and hotel) for under $600 per person.

Plus, booking a vacation package takes away the unwanted stress of researching and planning every detail of a trip. And, if flying to your next destination doesn't sound ideal, you may want to look into booking a cruise for you and/or your companion. Several popular cruise companies are offering Cyber Monday and Black Friday deals that will definitely pique your interest.

Buy travel-related gift cards

Around the holiday season, it's par for the course to see promotions that offer gift card buyers a gift to use themselves. This season, you can buy a $500 Southwest Airlines gift card for $399.99. And travel doesn't just mean hotel and flight gift cards; currently, you can purchase a $100 Uber gift card for $90.

The point is, have eagle eyes if you plan to give the gift of travel via gift cards. Watch your email for targeted promotions or check TPG for deal announcements. You can often find discounted travel gift cards or those offering some type of bonus for the purchase.

Even if you can't find a discounted gift card, at least ensure you are earning as many points as possible when you purchase a gift card.

Use Hyatt Globalist elite status to make a reservation for someone else

If you're a Hyatt Globalist, you can use your elite status to improve someone else's stay through the company's Guest of Honor program . Basically, if you're a Globalist elite member, you can redeem points for a stay for a family member or friend and "transfer" your elite status privileges to that traveler. What does this actually mean? Depending on the property, it means your gift recipient would get extra perks like Regency Club or Grand Club access, free breakfast and late checkout. If you want to give someone you love the royal treatment, this is a great way to do so.

Use a credit card to get a welcome bonus when paying for your gift

If you do plan to pay cash for the gift of travel, make sure to reward yourself. Here are a few of our favorite credit cards with lucrative welcome bonuses.

Bottom line

Travel is a privilege that not everyone gets to partake in. Think about gifting an entire trip or a portion of one to someone you love. Whether you book a cruise deal or utilize your points and miles to pay for a hotel stay, gifting that special someone in your life an experience that they'll probably remember forever is certainly one of the best presents to give. Plus, who knows, maybe they'll catch the travel bug and become a built-in companion for future vacations!

The Best Airline Gift Cards for the Holidays

' height=

See recent posts by Tracy Stewart

Whatever this year’s advances in neck pillows, nothing can really compete with the gift of travel itself. If you’re stumped as to what to give the globetrotter on your list this holiday, look away from the gadgets and accessories and instead consider an airline gift card.

Not every airline offers them but many do, in one form or another. Load up with the dollar amount of your choosing, which the receiver can then put towards future travel.

Of course, some cards are easier to use than others. Users should be mindful of expiration dates, if there is one, along with any fees that may apply.

As for you, the gift-giver, it doesn’t get any easier than a gift card. Anyone terrible at wrapping can, at the very least, handle sealing an envelope, and in many cases the airline takes care of even that, sometimes offering overnight delivery. Or opt for an e-voucher to be emailed and spare some trees.

Below are some of the better options for airline gift cards currently available.

The Best Airline Gift Cards

Delta air lines.

Point anywhere on the globe and chances are that Delta and its vast partner network can land you there, or at least somewhere very close. Gift cards can be purchased at Delta.com in $5 increments for as little as $50 to a maximum of $5,000. Redeem online, over the telephone, or in person at the airport. Gift cards can only be used towards airfares and not to pay for baggage fees, in-flight purchases, upgrades, or any other extras. Card balances never expire.

Buyers can choose to send an eGift card by email or opt for a physical version to be shipped out via UPS. Personalized messages to the recipient can be included in either format.

Southwest Airlines

For the wishy-washy traveler who constantly changes plans, Southwest offers the most flexibility of any gift card. Tickets that can easily be changed for free. Just pay the fare difference, if there is one. And if for whatever reason the ticket holder is unable to make the trip, the cost of the ticket can be rebanked for use towards a future flight, no biggie. Oh, and don’t forget, Southwest still allows passengers to check two bags for free, unlike other carriers. Something to consider if your receiver tends to overpack.

The only downside? Some may find its international options a tad limited, with just 14 destinations throughout Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central America.

Southwest gift card values range from $10 to $1,000. Choose an e-card or physical gift card to be overnighted. Cards never expire and may be booked at Southwest.com, via telephone, or at Amazon for lower denominations up to $200.

Hawaiian Airlines

Being gifted a trip to Hawaii is pretty much the best possible outcome of anyone’s holiday. Hawaiian e-gift and gift cards can be purchased online or at certain grocery stores (Hawaii Foodland, Sack N Save, and Foodland Farms) in amounts as low as $50 and no higher than $2,000. Card amounts must be used for airfare only and can’t be applied to lei greetings, trip insurance, travel packages, or any ancillary services.

It’s hard to imagine anyone not using this as soon as possible but in the event that the receiver drags his or her feet in booking, this card will never expire. And in the off chance your recipient doesn’t actually want to go to Hawaii, remind them that Hawaiian also flies nonstop to Australia, New Zealand, American Samoa, Tahiti, Japan, South Korea, and China.

Alaska Airlines

With destinations throughout Mexico and Hawaii, Alaska's route map is probably more extensive than you think. Alaska’s gift certificates range from $25 to $500. Include a personal message and send via email or print out at home. Alaska certificates don’t expire and any remaining balance can be put towards future bookings.

Certificates can be booked at AlaskaAir.com .

Gift cards can be purchased in CashPoint increments ranging from 500 (about $53) to 5,000 (about $545), with its mid-tier 2,000 CashPoint (or $218) option being the most popular.

Flight vouchers are valid for flights only and cannot be used to book rental cars, hotels, or other extras. Any unused amount will be reissued in the form of another voucher, though pay attention to expiration dates.

Voucher-holders should also be aware that there are restrictions for flights originating in certain countries in the Middle East, Asia, and Africa. If your traveler is beginning their journey from any of these areas, call BA directly. Book at BritishAirways.com .

Gift vouchers from Irish flag carrier Aer Lingus can be purchased in denominations of up to $500 which would more than cover a cheap roundtrip sale fare. Aer Lingus regularly discounts fares not just to Ireland but along its entire network which includes most of Europe. Best of all, vouchers never expire! Purchase at Aerlingus.com .

Ultimate gift cards for the travel lover in your life

Looking for the best travel gift cards to treat someone special? You’ve come to the right place! With almost a year gone by of lockdowns and virtually a complete shutdown of travel, wanderlust-seekers are more desperate than ever to hop on a plane and head to their next destination. It may be a while longer before the return of travel as we once knew it, but that doesn’t mean we can’t start planning (and getting excited) right now. Christmas is around the corner, so we’ve curated this list of the best travel gift vouchers for the travel lover in your life – even if that person happens to be you!

Gift a private tour with a local

Gift a private tour with a local

Left your gift shopping till the last minute?  We have just the thing to help you out. Frankly, we can’t think of any better gift card ideas than our very own gift cards for travel  to book from over 675 private & personalized tours and experiences with locals around the world. We give you the option either to buy an e-gift card and let the recipient choose their own private tour or experience, or you can choose the experience yourself. You don’t even have to select a date, because a gifted experience is valid for a full 18 months, and the recipient is welcome to reach out to us when their dates have been decided.

Buy now, fly later

The best travel gift cards will always be the ones offering the gift of more travel – and there’s no better way to give it than with an airline gift card! American Airlines, for example, offers gift cards for travel that don’t expire, so your recipient can plan their getaway well into the future. If international travel is off the cards, regional travel might be the way to go. Many low-cost domestic airlines, like Europe’s Ryanair and America’s Southwest Airlines, offer excellent booking flexibility with no hidden costs (plus you can easily get one of their gift cards for travel on Amazon ).

The gift of freedom

The gift of freedom

But your gift cards for travel don’t have to limit someone to just one airline. One of the best air travel gift cards comes from Flightgift.com . Why? This card can be cashed in for a flight that departs from 70 countries with any of 300 airlines that range from low-cost to full service. It doesn’t matter where in the world your travel voucher recipient wants to go – a Flightgift will almost certainly get them there.

A spectacular stay anywhere

A spectacular stay anywhere

Give the travel lover in your life the gift of choice with a Hotels.com gift card. Available on Amazon , this is one of the best gift ideas for people who like to travel – not only because it’s a great gift, but because it gives them total flexibility. A Hotels.com gift card is redeemable on bookings at over 150,000 hotels in 200 countries worldwide! This is also one of the easiest wedding gift ideas for couples who travel. Club together with a group of friends to give them a travel adventure they’ll never forget.

Long-term living like a local

Long-term living like a local

Is your travel-loving friend a digital nomad or backpacker who stays in a city for weeks at a time before moving on to the next one? A customizable Airbnb gift card could be one of the top gift vouchers for travel. Give them a welcome break from backpackers lodges and cheap hostels with a gift card that allows them to choose from thousands of unique properties all over the world. This is one of the best travel gift cards because the recipient has total control over where and how to use it.

A relaxing retreat

A relaxing retreat

If you really want to spoil someone, travel website gift cards don’t get more opulent than SLH – Small Luxury Hotels of the World. It’s in the name: An SLH gift card is the gateway to a luxury escape in a boutique hotel in more than 90 countries. From spa escapes to opulent suites to ultra-chic spaces renowned for sleek design, these gorgeous hotels will make anyone feel utterly spoiled. If you’re looking for a travel voucher wedding gift, you’d be hard-pressed to find a better one than this.

Give them the world

Give them the world

You don’t even have to give part of a trip – with travel gift vouchers from lastminute.com , you can give an entire trip. These unique gift vouchers for travel are redeemable on flights, hotels, or a flight plus hotel package. Your recipient will be able to create any combination of flights with over 400 airlines and take their pick of virtually any hotel. Lastminute.com offers several variations of these travel gift vouchers, but all of them put the world in the palm of your hand.

Let them lounge around

Let them lounge around

Make their next trip more memorable with access to airport lounges worldwide courtesy of LoungeBuddy . Lounge access is one of the most unique gift card ideas because it’s one of those nice-to-haves that make air travel even sweeter (and it’s something few people would ever think to get for themselves!). LoungeBuddy offers lounge access for airports worldwide, no elite statuses, or first-class tickets required, so your recipient will have their pick of the bunch.

An extraordinary travel experience

An extraordinary travel experience

As a rail service connecting the United Kingdom with three other top European destinations is any travel lover’s dream experience. If you’re looking for travel website gift cards that offer a truly unforgettable experience, a Eurostar e-voucher might be the way to go. These gift cards for travel offer a world of adventure at your fingertips. And why not add in one of City Unscripted’s gift cards for travel, and give them a tailored tour in France , Belgium , or the Netherlands ?

Form and function

Got a friend with a beat-up old suitcase? You could consider giving them gift cards for travel luggage so they can embark on their next adventure in ultimate style. Luggage is one of those things many people neglect to upgrade for themselves, making it the perfect gift for their future trips. There are loads of specialty luggage websites online offering vouchers for beautiful bags, but if you don’t want to spend an arm and a leg, an Amazon gift card is always an easy (and equally great) alternative.

33 Best Gift Cards to Give Everyone on Your Holiday List

Calling all last-minute shoppers: You can't go wrong with these unique picks.

gift voucher in burgundy envelope with blue bow under the christmas tree christmas gift

We've been independently researching and testing products for over 120 years. If you buy through our links, we may earn a commission. Learn more about our review process.

And while I was raised that even the best gift cards aren't as personal as a hand-chosen present , the wealth of options out there now means that's no longer true. Choosing a gift card for your loved one's favorite store or to contribute to a beloved hobby is as personalized as it comes — especially when you pair it with a thoughtful holiday card .

Besides, sometimes you just need a gift that's not exactly tailor-made. I know I'm not alone in needing a few gifts for those recipients I just don't know well, whether it's an addition to the office White Elephant exchange, a Secret Santa gift or that holiday gathering at a friend-of-a-friend's house that requires a host offering . Then there's the last-minute gift to hand to someone who gave you a present you weren't expecting. In all of these situations, a gift card can feel like a godsend.

We love these great gift cards because they let the recipient pick out their present (because who doesn't love a little retail therapy?) and may even help your friends and family members discover a new favorite shop. Pick out a holiday card, write a thoughtful message inside (one of these Christmas quotes could work nicely) and add one of these pitch-perfect gift cards. Holiday gift exchange = solved.

Note that Girlfriend Collective sizing ranges from XS to 6XL.

When it comes to choosing the best travel gifts, there are many routes to take: You can get your go-to vacation companion something practical that they'll reach for every time they take out their carry-on. Or, you can gift something to encourage them to start planning their next trip (and hopefully invite you along). There are also gifts that bring travel to them, making the space between adventures feel a bit more like a vacation, and experience gifts to make their next trip even more exciting. No matter the occasion, or the traveler, we've rounded up nearly 60 travel gifts from brands we love, so you can find something for each person on your list.

For even more specific gift guides, be sure to check out all our recommended gifts for travelers, which we've gathered for you here . And keep an eye on the calendar—the sooner the better if you're shipping presents straight to a giftee, or mailing to yourself to wrap. Standard free shipping deadlines end as early as December 13 for delivery by Christmas, so aim to order by that date if you're hoping to avoid shipping costs.

This gallery has been updated with new information since its original publish date.

Spanx AirEssentials half-zip

SPANX Women's Airessentials 1/2 Zip

This cozy gift is perfect for travel enthusiasts and athleisure lovers. The half-zip pullover is made with a soft, lightweight fabric and offers a cozy oversized fit for easy layering.

CBS Essentials editorial director Leslie Gornstein shared that she saw someone wearing the AirEssentials top and matching lounge pants at the airport and immediately wanted a set for herself. Even Oprah Winfrey is a fan .

"Wow. Wow. Wow," Winfrey says. "May I tell you I got this set last year? I wore it in a photo shoot for 'O' and never looked back. This is the most comfortable fabric -- now in new sophisticated colors."

Inflatable Travel Air Pillow

Inflatable Travel Air Pillow

Traditional travel pillows usually just go around your neck for a bit of added support, but this one takes things to the next level, making it an innovative gift idea for travelers.

"Get a real travel pillow," Gornstein says. "Not the kind that they sell at the airport. Not the kind that goes viral on social. The kind that works. I do not sleep upright with my head lolling to one side and do not know anyone else who does. I sleep like a person, which means I need a travel pillow that lets me lean forward and mimic sleeping on my side or stomach."

This pillow is $21, reduced from $25.

Herschel classic backpack

Herschel Classic Backpack

Gift the perfect personal item for air travel with this Herschel backpack.

"I used to be one of those people who needed to look super cute with a trendy over-the-shoulder carry-on bag," Gornstein says. "Then I got real. Get a super-cute backpack and enjoy the magic of hands-free navigation through security and airports and all this."

This 4-star-rated backpack is currently $38, reduced from $55. That's 31% off.

It comes in six colors and prints and in three different sizes.

Nintendo Switch OLED Mario Kart 8 bundle

Nintendo Switch – OLED Model W/ White Joy-Con Console with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Game

For the gamer  who loves to travel, CBS Essentials managing editor Fox Van Allen recommends this Nintendo Switch bundle.

"When I'm not snoozing on the plane, I pull out my Nintendo Switch to pass the time during those long cross-country flights," Van Allen says. "The Nintendo Switch OLED edition has an improved and brighter screen, which will make all the latest games look extra sharp. This version comes bundled with the popular game Mario Kart 8, making it perfect for gifting."

This bundle, a $410 value, is currently on sale at Walmart for $348 this holiday season.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder

Super Mario Bros Wonder

If the traveling gamer in your life already has a Nintendo Switch, consider gifting them a game instead.

This new release is an excellent choice (and if you're not convinced, you can read our full review of the game ).

"This new release is easily the best 2D Super Mario Bros. game in decades," Van Allen says. "It features all your favorite characters and mechanics from the franchise, including new power ups (Elephant Mario!) and new secrets. Especially fun is the addition of Wonder Flowers, all of which have unique game-changing effects."

Monos Metro crossbody bag

Monos Metro Crossbody

The Monos Metro crossbody is a great compact option for carrying your daily essentials while traveling.

It offers plenty of storage space and hands-free carrying.

For me, CBS Essentials writer Kaylyn McKenna, a good cross-body day bag is a travel must-have. I like something light that can hold the basics like my phone, cards and hotel key while I go sightseeing.

This unisex Monos crossbody makes a great travel gift for men or women.

The 31 Best Gifts for Frequent Travelers

A selection of our favorite gifts for travelers, including Aesop travel cosmetics, a book on national parks, an eye mask, and more.

By Samantha Schoech and Dorie Chevlen

Give the globe-trotter in your life a gift that will appeal to their sense of worldly wonder. These items will make flights, long lines at customs, and hotel stays feel less arduous and more comfortable. You could also give your favorite traveler special mementos and experiences to celebrate past trips and anticipate future expeditions. Whatever type of traveler you’re shopping for, there should be something here to suit their wanderlust.

Luggage helper

A person pulling a suitcase on wheels that has the Cincha Travel Belt bag attached to the handle.

Cincha Travel Belt

This wide nylon strap has a sturdy buckle to keep your shoulder bag, backpack, or carry-on firmly attached to your roller bag, for smoother trips through the airport.

Buying Options

Anyone who travels has surely precariously perched their carry-on atop their rolling suitcase, only to have it topple, swivel, or lurch. Solve that annoyance with the Cincha Travel Belt , a useful (if unglamorous) offering. The concept is simple: This adjustable nylon strap cinches a smaller bag to the telescopic handles of a suitcase, thereby freeing up a hand, shoulder, or back. Yes, your traveling friend could use a bungee or even a rope for that purpose, but this item has a few touches that make it worth the upgrade: The sturdy metal buckle releases like butter, and a hidden elastic loop keeps the belt attached, even when it’s unclasped. Yes, this is a practical gift, but for the right traveler, it will be a real gem.

The Penkou Portable Neck Fan in front of a blue background.

Penkou Portable Neck Fan

This fan’s battery lasts all day, and several accidental drops haven’t killed it. Also, it fits comfortably around the neck without being heavy, loud, or excessively gusty.

This past summer, heat records broke across the globe, and many travelers reported they found it difficult to stay cool and comfortable on the go. New York City’s own heat wave prompted associate staff writer Thom Dunn to explore the world of wearable neck fans , including the Penkou Portable Neck Fan . And the Penkou model, with a ring of 72 air slots that softly blow air up toward the head (but not directly into the face), was his pick. It weighs only about half a pound, and due to its smooth plastic design, it’s barely noticeable against the neck and shoulders. There’s one large button on the front right, making it easy to cycle through the fan speeds. The rechargeable battery lasts up to 16 hours, and the fan is compact enough to slip into a carry-on.

Handy sanitizer

A person's hands refilling a bottle of Noshinku Hand Sanitizer with a Noshinku refill pouch.

Noshinku Hand Sanitizer

This flat, pocket-friendly hand sanitizer comes in sophisticated scents like vetiver, eucalyptus, and bergamot. And it’s refillable.

Traveling requires a lot of surface touching: airplanes, subways, taxis. If the pandemic taught us anything, it was that we should clean our hands as often as possible. The lovely-smelling Noshinku Hand Sanitizer is an FDA-compliant germ-killer that also contains stuff like jojoba, rosehip, argan oil, and aloe, to keep skin from drying out. Each canister is about the size of a credit card, though not quite as slim. So it can be slipped into a back pocket or a purse pocket. The best part is the canister is refillable , so your recipient can continue to use it for a long time.

Reading light

Our pick for best reading light overall, the Glocusent Bookmark Style Reading Light, shown clipped onto a book that is open to a page in the middle.

Glocusent Bookmark Style Reading Light

This chic, compact device offers five light settings, and the power indicator makes it easy to tell when to charge it.

Whether your favorite traveler is reading on a plane, train, or bed, or they’re just rifling through their suitcase, they will surely appreciate some extra light. The tiny Glocusent Bookmark Style Reading Light is our pick because it’s so lightweight and easy to carry. It twists and adjusts, so the light covers a full page, and it has simple buttons, for changing the brightness and temperature of the lighting. This lamp is so small it can clip to a paperback without weighing it down, and it fits in a pocket.

Trip planner

A spread of two pages about Alta Badia in Italy, taken from Lonely Planet’s Where to Go When travel book.

Lonely Planet’s Where to Go When

This visual travel guide suggests events and destinations for every month of the year. It’s as much an inspiration as it is a planner.

Graphically exuberant and endlessly inspiring, Lonely Planet’s Where to Go When is arranged by month, so travelers can figure out where to head on any given day. Miami’s Art Deco Weekend is in January. Consider Botswana’s Okavango floods (the best time for dugout canoe safaris) in June. This book further categorizes potential trips by budget, family-friendliness, and “expensive but worth it” (a July road trip along the Westfjords of Iceland, for example). Even if the recipient is more of an armchair traveler than a frequent globe-trotter, this book is sure to kick their wanderlust into full gear.

Luggage tracker

Apple AirTags next to each other.

Apple AirTag

AirTags leverage Apple’s huge network of devices to track down a lost suitcase, and they’re impressively accurate at pinpointing an item’s precise location.

Whether it was misrouted by the airline or left behind in a station waiting room, a lost suitcase can really dampen a trip. The Apple AirTag —our favorite Bluetooth tracker —does not work with non-Apple products. But if your beloved traveler owns an iPhone, AirTags are better than their competitors in just about every way—from ease of setup to location accuracy. They track belongings almost in real time. And if an airline does lose your favorite traveler’s suitcase, they will have an accurate map to point to when trying to locate it. Wirecutter staffers have also had success with slipping AirTags into the pockets of their restless kids.

Arrive refreshed

The Peace Out Puffy Eyes box next to the patches.

Peace Out Puffy Eyes

Each box contains six pairs of under-eye patches, which are infused with caffeine and hyaluronic acid to depuff tired, travel-weary eyes.

Nobody looks—or feels—as fresh as a daisy after a flight. But the Peace Out Puffy Eyes cooling under-eye patches—a longtime favorite of supervising editor Hannah Morrill—can help with both. Each box contains six pairs of crescent-shaped patches, made of a gelatinous (but not icky) biocellulose gel. The cooling effect is certainly pleasant enough. But the ingredients (caffeine, for a temporary tightening effect, and hydrators glycerin, niacinamide, and hyaluronic acid) are what really do the trick for travel-worn eyes.

Safe drinking water

A person refilling a lifestraw water bottle with water from an outdoor faucet.

LifeStraw Go Series

This water bottle’s microfilter straw protects against all sorts of contaminants—from microplastics to E. coli. And it makes everyday tap water taste better.

To turn non-potable water into fresh, clean drinking water, staff writer Samantha Schoech swears by the LifeStraw Go Series water bottle (she recently sent her son off to Central America with one). Its replaceable filter removes 99.9% of contaminants and protects against common waterborne pathogens. This bottle is a little pricey, but it eliminates the need for single-use plastic bottles. And each filter cleans 1,000 gallons, which translates to roughly five years of daily use. (To learn a little more, see our article on the LifeStraw Max Water Filter .)

Nanoblock Birds Rosella Collection Series Building Kit

Flat bags packed with tiny building blocks keep bored hands and minds occupied on long treks. The resulting builds are about the size of a fist.

A person can only watch so many in-flight movies. On long hauls, we find these Nanoblock mini building sets to be just the ticket for restless hands and minds. They’re engaging but not mentally taxing, and the sets (ranging from about 100 to 200 pieces) are small enough to lay out on a tray table and later carry home in luggage. Finished pieces—from musical instruments to cats to pizzas—are only about 3 inches tall.

Power on the go

A Zendure SuperMini 20W.

Zendure SuperMini 20W

This is the smallest and lightest power bank we’ve tested. It has USB-C PD and USB-A ports, and it comes in several colors. It also has rounded edges, so it’s easy to slip into a pocket.

At some point, your constantly on-the-go pal will require some extra juice, and a portable charger will ensure they have it when they need it most. We like this power pack , which also happens to be the smallest model we tested. But there’s more to love than just its pocket size. The Zendure SuperMini 20W ’s USB-C Power Delivery (PD) port can charge most handheld devices (and recharge the power bank itself) at top speed, and the USB-A port can handle any older, non-USB-C devices. In other words, this thing is fast and versatile.

An unmissable luggage tag

An Ovener Silicone Luggage Tag.

Ovener Silicone Luggage Tag

This brightly colored silicone tag displays the owner’s name but keeps other personal information out of sight.

There are a few features that make the Ovener Silicone Luggage Tag superior to pricier models in our testing . For starters, due to its sturdy, silicone-and-metal cable construction, it can withstand crowded overhead bins and rough tarmac treatment. Then there’s the issue of privacy: Although the owner’s name is always fully visible, address details are revealed only after you unscrew and remove the metal cable. Also an upside: This tag comes in a range of eye-catching colors. So it can help someone spot an otherwise-nondescript suitcase on a fast-moving carousel.

Premier toiletry transport

A State Bags Bensen Dopp Kit in blue, green, and yellow color block.

State Bags Bensen Toiletry Kit

This bag includes a detachable pouch and other organizational options, so packing is easier for both long and short trips.

For all manner of travelers, the State Bags Bensen Toiletry Kit is the most versatile one we tested . If your traveling pal takes longer trips and often checks their luggage, this bag folds up to stash larger items, like full shampoo bottles or contact solution; the hook hangs smoothly from a towel bar, for easy access. Our favorite feature for light packers: a removable translucent plastic pouch that holds up to four 2.7-ounce travel bottles (ideal for carry-on security checks). Available in a dozen prints and patterns, the bag also looks great and feels like a fancy, will-last-a-lifetime gift at a relatively modest price.

Small servings

Cadence Capsules

These leakproof plastic travel containers hold half an ounce of solids, liquids, or capsules; magnetized sides keep them compact and easy to locate.

If your favorite excursionist wouldn’t dream of using hotel shampoo or missing a day of their skin-care regimen, a set of Cadence Capsules will serve as an anxiety-abating treat. (Less-particular travelers will appreciate our favorite simple toiletry bottles .) All six hexagonal cases are leakproof and magnetic on every side, and they can be filled with about a half-ounce of whatever the traveler’s heart desires—from serum and dry shampoo to omega-3 capsules and CBD gummies. The well inside each capsule has rounded corners, so the recipient can scrape out every last daub of their precious potions. Each vessel can be customized with a “tile” or label. But unless you know your recipient very well, we suggest giving a gift card , which will allow them to choose their own colors and tiles.

Organized packing

The Eagle Creek Pack-It Reveal Cube Set.

Eagle Creek Pack-It Reveal Cube Set

Simple and solidly constructed, these packing cubes maximize luggage space and keep everything organized.

Even for the most enthusiastic traveler, packing remains an uphill battle. The Eagle Creek Pack-It Reveal Cube Set (one of our favorites ) can make the task infinitely less arduous, and some of our testers found that this set made packing borderline pleasant. The three cubes are made of sturdy polyester, so they stay upright when empty, and the mesh windows let travelers easily scope the contents. With a clamshell design, these cubes fully open on three sides, so deeply stashed items are easily accessible. Another welcome note in the age of lost luggage: Pouches can help your favorite traveler compress stuff into a single carry-on.

Safety socks

Two pairs of Sockwell's Lifestyle Firm Compression Socks.

SockWell Men’s Lifestyle Firm Compression Socks

These compression socks offer the perfect combination of function and price. They are made of a merino wool blend, which is typical of more-expensive options.

travel gift cards for christmas

SockWell Women’s Lifestyle Firm Compression Socks

For a true frequent flier, wearing a great pair of compression socks is both a safety and a comfort measure. Long flights can cause deep vein thrombosis and gravitational oedema (the technical term for swelling caused by sitting around too long); compression socks facilitate circulation and reduce the instances of both. SockWell Lifestyle Firm Compression Socks (available in both men’s and women’s sizes) are comfortably snug, and they’re made of a luxe, merino wool blend that hugs without constricting. The socks are cozy on a nippy flight, and they come in a handful of prints and colors that aren’t as institutional-looking as those of other compression socks we tried.

A hands-free journey

A person is standing outside, wearing the Dagne Dover Ace Fanny Pack in sage green.

Dagne Dover Ace Fanny Pack

This neoprene pack blends style and function, fitting everything from a large wallet to a makeup kit—with room to spare.

For those who like to explore new places but don’t want to carry a purse, a modern, cool fanny pack is just the right accessory. Of the 22 we tested, the Dagne Dover Ace Fanny Pack offers the best marriage of handsome looks (eight suave colors!) and plenty of storage space—it can readily hold a smartphone, a passport, a wallet, and hand sanitizer, and there are extra pockets for a transit card and some change. Wide straps make this bag comfortable to carry, and the neoprene material (think wetsuit) will keep gear dry if the weather shifts unexpectedly.

A cozy cardigan

A person wears the White + Warren Essential Cashmere Trapeze Cardigan in a blush color.

White+Warren Essential Cashmere Trapeze Cardigan

This simple, luxurious, and flattering open-front cardigan will add a layer of warmth and elegance to a trip abroad.

There is nothing worse than boarding a flight and realizing you miscalculated just how chilly airplane AC can be. One of our favorite cashmere sweaters , the White+Warren Essential Cashmere Trapeze Cardigan is a simple and luxurious piece that will keep a traveler cozy both in transit and once they’ve reached their destination. This sweater is lightweight but soft enough to nap in (it can double as a blanket, thanks to its drapey shape), and it looks polished when layered over a tee or under a jacket. Available in six muted tones, the cardigan has an airy construction, so it can fold down smaller than expected for easy packing.

Colorful little notebooks

The Pantone 10 Notebooks set, which is a box with 10 brightly colored notebooks in it.

Pantone 10 Notebooks

Each brightly colored, pocket-size notebook has 48 grid-dot pages.

Not all travel journals need to be works of art, layered with watercolor and ink. The Pantone 10 Notebooks set includes 10 brightly colored, 4-by-5½-inch soft-cover notebooks that are perfect for jotting down ideas, an itinerary, or travel memories. Each notebook slips nicely into a tote or a pocket and has 48 grid-dot pages of decent-quality paper. Send your traveler out into the world with a couple of these and a good pen , and see what they return with.

Armchair travel to Japan

A family gathered around a table, playing Tokaido, the board game.

Set in Edo-era Japan, this game revels in the simple pleasures of traveling—in this case, from the city of Kyoto to Edo (what is now Tokyo).

Players journey along the Tokaido road with other travelers, stopping at hot springs, stores, temples, and inns (and collecting souvenirs and eating delicious meals as they go). The ultimate goal is to be the “best traveler,” or to have the richest experience by seeing, eating, or doing the most during your trip. The game itself is beautifully designed and simple to play; it’s not deeply competitive, though there is some strategy involved in attempting to win. The pleasure of playing Tokaido comes from relaxing and accepting the pace of the board, and letting the game reveal surprising discoveries—much like travel itself.

A window out into the world

A view into a window with flowers and a house. Words in the middle read: Open a new window somewhere in the world.

With each click in this free app, a view opens from a real window somewhere in the world, complete with sounds of birds, traffic, or blessed silence.

Sometimes the best gift is to remind someone that the world is both larger and more accessible than they realize. WindowSwap offers a strangely compelling experience, allowing someone to take a break to stare out a window in cities like Copenhagen, Prague, and Manila. Some of the window scenes are tranquil, others are not, but all suggest there’s an infinite number of new things to see, wherever you are. The app is free, but for $5 a month, your armchair traveler will be able to look out all of the windows ever uploaded, create unlimited bookmarks and playlists, and even access a back button so they can spend a little more time gazing out a favorite window.

Noise-cancelling bliss

A pair of Bose Noise Cancelling Headphones 700.

Bose Noise Cancelling Headphones 700

These over-ear headphones are traveler-friendly, thanks to their noise-cancellation feature and lightweight, comfortable design.

A traveler can’t turn down the volume of an airplane’s engine, but the right pair of noise-cancelling headphones can. Such headphones are designed to reduce low-pitched droning sounds—in other words, exactly the kind of noise encountered in an airplane. After reviewing travel gear for more than six years, we think the Bose Noise Cancelling Headphones 700 are the best to help travelers relax and block too-loud plane noise.

An eye mask and a travel pillow for catching z’s

A Travelrest Nest Ultimate Memory Foam Travel Pillow.

Nidra Deep Rest Eye Mask

This lightweight, contoured mask comfortably fits a wide variety of face shapes and blocks light well. It’s best when you’re sitting upright or sleeping on your back.

travel gift cards for christmas

Travelrest Nest Ultimate Memory Foam Travel Pillow

This compressible pillow has tall, memory-foam walls, and it offers more support than any other pillow we tested.

It’s perhaps an indictment of air travel in general that many travel items are designed to mitigate the environment, whether it’s the noise, the light, or even the cramped seats of an airplane. The Nidra Deep Rest Eye Mask , a Wirecutter favorite , features contoured eyecups that rest around the eye sockets, instead of directly on the eyelids. By combining this mask with noise-cancelling headphones and a pillow, a traveler will be about as close to a sense of privacy as one can find on an airliner. For a headrest, we like the Travelrest Nest Ultimate Memory Foam Travel Pillow . It’s simple to wear, doesn’t interfere too much with headphones, and provides support even when the wearer is sitting upright.

Tiny white noise machine

A person's hand holding the Yogasleep Travel Mini Sound Machine.

Yogasleep Travel Mini Sound Machine

This sound machine is about as small as the palm of a hand and weighs less than 5 ounces. And it features a USB-rechargeable battery.

There’s no guarantee that your beloved traveler’s hotel or Airbnb will be as quiet as it promises to be. A small, portable sound machine may create enough white noise to drown out sleep-disturbing intrusions. The Yogasleep Travel Mini Sound Machine is from the same company that makes the classic Yogasleep Dohm , which we recommend . The Travel Mini has six sound options, including white noise, brown noise, and three nature-inspired sounds. It also acts as a gentle night-light, with three dimmable options. What’s better than the gift of a good night’s sleep?

A game about the birth (and death) of words

travel gift cards for christmas

Those who enjoy language immersion (and disorientation) will appreciate this card game, which has players generate a unique dialect.

Part of the experience of traveling to another country is feeling lost in its language, and Dialect can help fill the gap. This game involves the birth (and eventual death) of a language and the culture that created it. At its heart, Dialect—which requires almost no setup but plenty of imagination—is as much a discussion of what language is and why it exists as it is a game. It’s also good for last-minute shoppers: Order the standard physical edition, and you’ll get a digital copy, too (online access is emailed immediately, so your loved one can start figuring out how the game is played).

Global foods sampler

Tapas for Two Gift Box

This gift box for two takes you on a Spanish food journey, including favorites such as jamón serrania and chorizo.

Our kitchen team is wild about the Despaña Tapas for Two Gift Box , which offers a seemingly bottomless assortment from a famed Spanish food importer. (The box is among the other great options in our favorite gift baskets guide .) Staffers were particularly smitten with the anchovy-stuffed olives, trio of Spanish cured pork, and delectable Cabo de Peñas tinned sardines. The cornucopia of savory treasures comes in a brown paper box tied with a red ribbon, and there’s an option to add a card. In short, this box offers all of the interesting stuff your favorite traveler would grab off the shelves from a small grocery store en España.

Travel posters with classic appeal

travel gift cards for christmas

Anderson Design Group World Travel Posters

These archive-quality, vintage-inspired prints depict destinations worldwide, and they come in a variety of sizes.

Years ago, senior staff writer Kit Dillon’s father went to Cuba and saw a clay statuette of Fidel Castro for sale. Kit said that when the vendor told his father the price, he said, “Castro no vale tanto” (translation: Castro isn’t worth that much). That may seem risky for an American to say while traveling alone in Cuba, but the statuette is here now looking at Kit, so somebody appreciated the joke. Ever since, Kit said when he finds a small token of Cuba—like this art print —he sends it to his father to remind him to take the trip again one day, only this time with Kit. For its World Travel Poster series , the Anderson Design Group created nostalgic images that hearken back to another era of travel—and they make an excellent promissory note for a trip to come. The collection currently encompasses every country in Asia, Europe, Africa, and Central, South, and North America, and it will eventually include every country in the world. The prints come in six sizes, and the images are available on canvas or metal.

Watercolors and travel journaling for the DIYer

With its page numbers, index pages, ribbon bookmarks, and sticker labels, this notebook is ideal for documentarians.

Winsor & Newton Cotman Watercolor Paint Set

This 14-pan watercolor set renders plein air painting possible, thanks to a slide-out palette, a water dish, and a quality brush.

Any traveler who’s interested in creating their own travel journal needs the right materials. The Leuchtturm1917 Notebook features thick, ink-proof paper, which works very well with pen and pencil. And as long as the artist isn’t too heavy-handed, it can also accommodate some light watercolor washes without warping. Your loved one can brighten their works with the Winsor & Newton Cotman Watercolor Paint Set . This small, travel-friendly set of high-quality watercolors comes with everything a painter needs to get started (except the paper).

Cutlery to go

The Hydro Flask Flatware Set, displayed next to a plat on a dinner table setting.

Hydro Flask Flatware Set

This three-piece stainless flatware set helps climate-conscious travelers avoid single-use plastics, and it comes with a Velcro carrying case.

Airport food has come a long way. What hasn’t progressed: the flimsy and environmentally deplorable single-use plastic utensils you have to eat it with. Portable cutlery will give your recipient a dignified way to dine on the go. Wirecutter editor Ria Misra recommends the sturdy stainless Hydro Flask Flatware Set , which comes with a full-size fork, a knife that’s strong enough to butter a muffin (but that won’t alarm the TSA), and a spoon that’s perfect for ladling soup. This set also comes with its own carrying case, so it won’t get lost (or separated) in the dark recesses of your carry-on.

A pretty passport cover

Two hands hold a bright green Tusk Siam Passport Cover.

Tusk Siam Passport Cover

This elegant goatskin passport cover comes in 11 zippy color combos, and it won’t fade or scuff, even after years of traveling.

A bright passport cover will make it easy for your traveling pal to quickly locate their passport in a bag at the airport (or at home, when it’s shoved in the back of a drawer). Supervising editor Hannah Morrill loves the Tusk Siam Passport Cover , which is made from supple goatskin leather and comes in nine cheery color combinations. (Some other versions we’ve tried have a translucent pouch; in theory, this sounds ideal for flashing the relevant page at customs, but in practice, the cover ends up smudgy and embedded with crumbs.) Hannah reports that even after years of use, the slim folio looks clean and crisp. Plus, there are two inner card slots, which are excellent for stashing any stray forms you’re asked to hang onto at the airport or on the plane.

We love finding gifts that are unusual, thoughtful, and well vetted. See even more gift ideas we recommend .
