Why Choose Our Guided Small-Group Adventure?
- Don't Go It Alone—Let Us Take the Hassle Out! When you travel on your own, you spend a lot of time researching, planning, asking questions, competing for reservations, or driving around trying to figure out where to go and what to do. As a result, you lose precious time and miss the secret spots known only to locals. We’ve taken out the legwork and guesswork: because we’ve already researched and tested everything, and we coordinate reservations far in advance, you'll experience much more than most people can accomplish on their own.
- Small Groups Make a BIG Difference In contrast to motorcoach tours, our small groups are limited to just seven guests per private safari vehicle, and only six on photo tours! With a maximum of 13 guests (in two vehicles) per departure—just 12 on photo tours—plus two NHA Expedition Leaders and a support staff member, we offer a matchless guide-to-guest ratio and a far more intimate nature adventure. We can move more quickly to areas where wildlife has recently been spotted and access roads and places buses can't reach.
- "Hidden" Wildlife Enclaves, Private Experiences & Fewer Crowds Our itinerary features out-of-the-way corners of Yellowstone and Grand Teton national parks that most visitors miss. With in-depth knowledge of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, we take you to lesser-known areas where wildlife viewing is better and crowds are fewer. Over the years we’ve developed relationships with a range of interesting locals, and you'll get personalized experiences you wouldn’t have access to on your own, such as a home visit with a famous local wildlife photographer.
- Expert Naturalist Guides Add Immeasurably to Your Experience Our Expedition Leaders are professional naturalists and biologists who know this region like few others. Many guide and teach here year-round, all have in-depth knowledge of the places we visit, resident wildlife behavior, and where and when to be in particular places to see animals. Our guides are the most senior in the region, called on to train other local guides. We can't emphasize enough how much difference this expertise makes to your overall experience. They are also in constant communication with local wolf researchers, providing our groups the most up-to-date knowledge of wolf locations and activity. See Expedition Leader bios with traveler comments regarding the quality of our leaders.
- Special Photo Departures with Expert Photography Coaching On our photo safaris, we often begin the day earlier and end later, to capitalize on the best light—slowing down a bit to take advantage of photo opportunities as they arise. And we make the most of autumn's brilliant colors with special fall foliage photo departures, too. Our guides on these trips are not only professional naturalists but gifted photography instructors, too.
- Personalized Encounters with a Local Naturalist Photographer Exclusively for Nat Hab guests, we have arranged a private home and gallery visit with Dan Hartman, one of Yellowstone's most famous wildlife photographers, whose work has been featured in National Geographic and other notable outlets. His wolf images are particularly renowned, and he is an important Yellowstone naturalist in his own right. Photo safaris also spend a day in the field with Dan, gaining insight and tips from this local pro.
- Exclusive Nat Hab Safari Trucks—Pop-Top Roofs Enhance Viewing A far cry from the typical buses or vans other companies use, Nat Hab has crafted new Mercedes Sprinters into specialty North American Safari Trucks . Featuring luxury bucket seats, USB chargers, expansive side windows and a pop-top roof offering 360° views on the landscape, these impressive vehicles provide a superlative wildlife viewing experience, not to mention exceptional comfort. Every guest has a window seat and plenty of room for camera equipment and other gear. These exclusive vehicles make a big difference!
- A Diversity of Seasons So You Can Choose Your Preference No matter when you visit Yellowstone Country, you are in for an uplifting nature display. In spring, crowds are fewer, the landscape is bright green with the peaks still blanketed by snow, and babies abound: bear cubs, bison calves, moose calves, fawns and wolf pups. Bears are especially active searching for food after hibernation, and cooler temperatures tend to mean more wildlife activity. In high summer, wildflowers are in full bloom and animals are still very active. Long days allow us to rise early and linger late, maximizing time for the best wildlife viewing when visitors have left the park or aren't yet out and about for the day. Fall is splendid here, with autumn’s palette of golden aspen and willow contrasting against brilliant blue skies and providing a superb backdrop for wildlife photos. Crowds are fewer again, too, as we listen for bugling elk and look for rotund bears, fattening up before winter.

Best of Yellowstone
Yellowstone national park tour.
Destination
Explore the highlights of Yellowstone National Park, the world’s first National Park and truly America’s best idea, a place rich in natural history, geothermal wonders and stunning geological landscapes. Our professional naturalist guides will show off the many wonders of Yellowstone on this full day tour, including geysers, (like Old Faithful), hot springs, waterfalls and other geothermal highlights. You’ll learn how the unique geology of the area shaped human history and how over a century of conservation has helped preserve a nearly intact ecosystem with diverse wildlife.
Guided Tour Highlights
- Lower Loop Tour – See Old Faithful
- Geysers, Waterfalls & Springs
- Geothermal Landscapes & Photo Opportunities
Your exact route and itinerary will be determined by your interests, current wildlife sightings, and current weather and road conditions. Our guides are all highly experienced, with thousands of hours in the field, and will expertly tailor your safari to you and your group.
*Early season tours (mid April to early May) will enter Yellowstone National Park through the west entrance and will travel through Teton Valley, ID in order to access the park. (The south entrance is closed to travel until early/mid May each year). All tours from early/mid May to the end of October will enter the park through the south entrance.
Yellowstone National Park is one of a kind on so many fronts – it is the first National Park to ever exist in the world, it is one of the largest National Parks in the lower 48 states, it contains the world’s largest concentration of geothermal features as well as the third largest volcanic caldera on Earth. Not only is its history and geography captivating, but it is an ongoing example of preservation and the host to many successful, ongoing conservation projects that has resulted in these park boundaries protecting an incredible variety of native wildlife and their habitats.
This park beckons visitors from all over the world with otherworldly beauty in the form of dynamically gushing geysers, deathly hot, yet vibrant, hot springs and vastly undeveloped, wild terrain. Yellowstone’s immensity is often not fully recognized until one finds themselves in the thick of it. There are over 300 miles of roadway to navigate within the park, with the main route taking the form of a northern and southern loop. A day trip from Jackson, WY will entail a 1.5 hour drive to the South Entrance of Yellowstone, from which destinations like Old Faithful still require another hour of travel.
To attain the best overview of the highlights accessible from Jackson Hole in a day, the southern loop is typically the focus. This portion of the park offers some of the best opportunities to view a variety of geothermal features, waterfalls, geological formations and the monumental Yellowstone Lake, which is the largest high alpine freshwater body of water in the contiguous United States. Be prepared to observe evidence of volcanic activity that occurred 640,000 years ago, smell the sulfur of geothermal features that both captivate us and remind us that there still lies a chamber of magma below that could erupt once more, admire seemingly endless rolling terrain covered in lodgepole pine instead of buildings, witness bison roaming down roads and through parking lots, because no matter how we change the land they will still go where they please.
The vast and often astonishing Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone River can also be found along the southern loop. Here, the Yellowstone River erodes away at volcanic stone to establish a 1,200 ft deep chasm that is still gradually growing to this day. The canyon also is host to a duet of massive torrents. There is the Upper Falls at a height of 109 feet, then there is the largest waterfall in Yellowstone National Park at 308 feet- the Lower Falls. The views of either are awe-striking, especially when accented by the swirling, cerulean waters of the Yellowstone River flanked by golden, sulfur stained pinnacles and stone walls of the canyon.
Highlights of the day might include the Continental Divide, Old Faithful, Fountain Paint Pots, Grand Prismatic Spring, the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, Hayden Valley, Mud Volcano, Yellowstone Lake and much more.
Other terrain that can be found along the southern route consists of wide open valleys, distant snowy-capped mountain views and a variety of winding, freshwater rivers and cascades ripe with the native cutthroat trout. A full day Yellowstone tour with Jackson Hole Wildlife Safaris will not only reveal the visually striking features of this region of the park, but also divulge the rich geological, anthropological and biological history of the Yellowstone.

Having been on many tours in many countries, this ranks as one of the best. The tour itself was fantastic and in one day we hit all the major spots on the lower loop. We saw many off the beaten path sights and our guide was fantastic. He was super knowledgeable, accommodating, flexible, and always available and fun.

Should I take a guided tour of Yellowstone?
A professional guide can provide education and connection for everything you see and experience in the National Parks. They are knowledgeable about the wildlife, the landscape, the history and the geology and they can provide context and understanding that you wouldn’t have by driving through the area yourself. We recommend booking a guided tour for the first few days of your vacation so that what you learn from your guide will enhance the rest of your time in the area.
How many days should I book a tour for in Yellowstone?
This all depends on your availability, your goals for your Yellowstone National Park adventure and the amount of time you’ve set aside to explore the park. Yellowstone is a huge place! It’s 2.2 million acres of wilderness to explore and most people don’t venture too far from the boardwalk. If your time is short, you can make the most of it on a full day Yellowstone Wildlife Safari. This tour will cover the highlights of the Lower Loop in the southern region of Yellowstone. If you’d like more time to explore the area, we recommend a 3-Day tour of Grand Teton National Park and Yellowstone National Park. This will provide more time to explore more of both parks.
What do others say about this tour?
5 Stars To be honest, at first we were a bit hesitant to spend the money for a guided Yellowstone tour when we could just drive through the park ourselves. But from the moment our guide picked us up at hotel on October 4th, any lingering concern evaporated. Wildlife Safari is undoubtedly the BEST way to truly experience and totally immerse into the great Yellowstone Park. Our ~10-hour guided tour was truly unforgettable! I cannot say enough about the professionalism, humor, knowledge, and skill of our “ Interpretive Naturalist”. Without his superb timing, informative commentary, and delightful engagement, we would have merely driven past, not seen, or completely missed 90% of everything Yellowstone has to offer. Not only did we see all the natural beauty of the Yellowstone lower loop’s famous and obscure sites, but we saw-up close-every animal (except moose and wolf) and foul that the park proudly hosts. From morning juices with muffins to our noon picnic lunch, and convenient, clean bathroom stops, every detail was seamlessly executed. Our guide delivered a spectacular day focused on our utmost comfort, safety, and enjoyment! Thank you, Jackson Hole Wildlife Safaris and especially, thank you to our guide! Kevin H.
5 Stars Hands down, best decision we made to go with Jackson Hole Wildlife Safaris for our 1 day allocated to Yellowstone. Our guide was no less than AMAZING. He was knowledgeable, provided a relaxed atmosphere, great with my 8 and 10 year old and kept the 12 hour day moving a long. If you have children, or if you want details about the park or area, or if you want a very relaxed, comfortable guided tour….request JHWS! I attribute most of the experience at Yellowstone to our experienced guide. KP P.
5 Stars For my birthday trip to Wyoming, my husband and I booked a full-day, private tour of Yellowstone with Jackson Hole Wildlife Safaris. Our tour guide did a fantastic job of being informative and entertaining. He picked us up from our hotel at 6:30 am on the dot and we headed off into the Grand Tetons. He had muffins from the don’t-miss Persephone’s Bakery along with juice and water to keep us satisfied until lunch. I mentioned that I really wanted to see a moose, and he immediately took us to an area where moose were known to hang out. We saw a female moose and her calf. I can’t begin to describe the incredible beauty of Grand Tetons and Yellowstone, and our guide knew all the best spots for awe-inspiring views and animal sightings. We also made it to Old Faithful in time for its 9:36 am eruption, and, again, he knew exactly where we should stand to get the best photos. Spending almost 12 hours in a vehicle with a stranger can sometimes be a bit awkward, but our guide was so pleasant. We immediately liked him and felt comfortable enough to chat and ask any questions we had. He wore a mask at all times around us, and the company policy during covid mandates that all customers wear masks when not eating or drinking. I would highly recommend a private tour with Jackson Hole Wildlife Safaris because not only are you in for an amazing day, but you’ll also learn about things that will inform the rest of your stay in the Jackson Hole/Yellowstone area. Courtney B.
5 Stars The very best way to see Yellowstone Park! An expeditious use of your time, especially if you only have one day, to view the main geological features and various animals. We were treated to a wolf pack/elk showdown, dozens of bison and a mother moose and cub. Our guide, our knowledgeable and attentive driver, was always on the lookout for animals. We had plenty of photo ops and good food for a family/nature experience of a lifetime. What a memory! Kelly S.

Yellowstone Winter Tours
The winter season runs from November – April, and offers a variety of different experiences in Yellowstone National Park. For the prospect of wolf watching tours , and enjoying a spectacular wintry landscape, we recommend a visit during this time.
During the winter months, Yellowstone National Park is mostly snowbound, with most of the 300 miles of park roads closed to vehicle travel. The majority of the interior is accessible only by over-snow vehicle. In the northeast reaches of the park, one road remains open to vehicles. This is the road that allows us passage through the incredible northern range, and winter is the perfect time to see Yellowstone’s wolves here in the wild.
Your exact route and itinerary will be determined by your interests, current wildlife sightings, and current weather and road conditions. Our guides are all highly experienced, with thousands of hours in the field, and will expertly tailor your safari to you and your group.
The arrival of winter to the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem is preceded by migration, mating season for some species and hyperphagia for others. Pronghorn and deer both migrate great distances to lower elevations for the winter months. The bison rut and elk rut happens before the snow flies for the winter and bears gorge on berries and other food to fatten up before hibernating for the winter. Wolves and mountain lions thrive in snowy conditions, which often slow down their prey. In Yellowstone, winter becomes the season of the wolf.
Winter temperatures in Yellowstone National Park can be staggeringly low or pleasantly mild. Average lows can dip to 1.2°F (-17.1°C) with extreme lows hitting -66°F (-54°C), the lowest recorded temperature. Average highs range from 24.3°F (-4.3°C) to 43.3°F (6.3°C) as spring arrives.
Since 1991, Yellowstone Safari Company has been the most diverse eco-tour adventure company in the region, offering private, personalized wildlife safaris and tours to Yellowstone National Park. Our professional naturalist guides will provide their guidance and expertise to facilitate nature-based experiences that provide enjoyment and appreciation for the natural world. Conservation education is at the heart of what we do and we look forward to the continued privilege of guiding you through our world.

What is your cancellation policy?
We have a 48-hour cancellation policy for all single day wildlife safaris. Cancellations made before the cancellation policy goes into effect will receive a full refund. Cancellations made within 48 hours of departure, and before the day of departure will receive a 50% refund. Cancellations or no-shows on the day of departure will not be refunded. We strongly recommend travel insurance in order to protect you from unforeseen travel interruptions that prevent you from joining us.
What should I bring?
We will step in and out of vehicles during our safari tours so you’ll want to wear comfortable shoes that allow you to walk on uneven surfaces, like gravel, or a boardwalk. Stepping in and out allows us to make the best use of our time in Yellowstone National Park and gives us the best wildlife viewing and photo opportunities. Your guide will have binoculars and spotting scopes for you to use, but do not forget to bring your camera! While Yellowstone has some modern facilities, we are going to be traveling through remote areas of a National Park. Please remember to bring any personal items, like medication, that you may need during the day.
What should I wear?
The rocky mountain range can see drastic temperature swings during the day. Please come prepared! For clothing, synthetic or wool layers are best in our mountain environment. Base layers act as a wicking layer against the body, so we recommend anything from a lightweight layer to an expedition weight layer, depending on the weather. A mid layer provides warmth, so we recommend a midweight fleece layer or softshell jacket for the upper body. The outer layer provides protection from the elements and serves as a wind/water blocking layer. A waterproof shell for your upper body will keep you dry and therefore, warm. For the legs, we recommend either weatherproof rain or snow pants, depending on the temperature. Layering your outer shell pants with lightweight and fleece layers can provide additional warmth. Conditions can change quickly. Your footwear should be comfortable and appropriate for the season. For winter, snow boots with wool socks will keep your feet warm. You’ll also want to bring a wool, or fleece, hat, as well as mittens/gloves to keep your hands warm. In any season, do not forget sunscreen or sunglasses. At high altitude, the sun’s rays are intense, even in winter.

On our tours, it is common to witness wolves galloping across Yellowstone’s vast landscapes, hunting their wild prey, or traveling to and from their dens to feed their playful puppies. During the unforgettably beautiful Yellowstone dawn, we often hear wolves howling across the breathtaking expanses of Yellowstone’s famed Northern Range. Come explore America’s greatest park with us!

We took the Wildlife Watching and Day Hiking combo with Matt. We had an excellent tour and a wonderful day. Matt was an awesome guide who made sure we had the best time possible. He was extremely knowledgeable of the park and wildlife. He tailored a hike to fit just what we wanted. I could not recommended this highly enough.
We spent 2 days in Yellowstone National Park with this guide company and I can't say enough good things about how it enhanced our experience of the park. Laura was our guide and if you use Yellowstone Wild, ask for her! Laura's knowledge of the park, the history, wildlife, geologic and everything else was incredible. One of the advantages of YWT is that they have guides out all over the park looking for wildlife and the team radios each other with any sightings. We saw bison, elk, bear, mule dear and stopped at some of the most beautiful places I had ever seen in my life. You are standing there, part of the iconic scene of the mist coming off the river. Pro tip - you will never see all there is to see without a guide. Laura drove all those steep and winding roads like a champ and took us to everything that was on our list to see. We thought this was just going to be a wildlife excursion but we ended up seeing so many dramatic elements of the park that it was mind blowing! Book with Yellowstone Wild Tours and ask for Laura. She has good snacks too!!
We had an outstanding morning with Rob. My brother said, in his 53 years, this experience was #1 and we've been to Churchill to see polar bears!! A great company with great guides that provide an excellent tour experience!! Thank you!! Susan and David
Our family booked the Wolf and Bear watching tour with Leysa yesterday. We were a bit nervous when our 17 year old, Kaylie, BROKE HER LEG the day before at the grand prismatic but still pushed through because we wanted to do this so badly! Leysa over delivered and made the tour special for all three of us!!! Kaylie had to stay in the car the entire time and Leysa made the tour so special for her. :-) We saw Grizzly, Black Bear, Grouse haha, wolves, an extremely special experience with wolves, deer, a close encounter with a fox while we were looking at mountain goats. Leysa was on point keeping an eye out for us while we were looking at the goats to make sure the fox didn’t get us. Of course, alllll the bison! She was extremely knowledgeable, professional, and an excellent guide! We would love to go again when we are back. We saved and saved for this vacation and feel this was money well spent as we shopped many tours and selected this one. Thank you for a WONDERFUL and memorable experience. :-)
Our first tour was with Aleksa to the canyons and waterfalls. Despite the animal life being quiet in Summer, she managed to find two wolfs, moose, and a grizzly. We had ample time to observe them with her scopes, and she even sent us footage she recorded. She is so knowledgeable not just about the park but shared so much detail about the wildlife and her honest take on how the park is taken care of. Her passion and knowledge were our highlights of this first 7 hour trip - and the hot beverages and lunch were great too.
We had a simply amazing and wonderful day with our guide Laura on our trip to Yellowstone to view nature and wildlife in January. Laura was incredible, with a wonderful, outgoing personality and a deep knowledge of the park, its geology and the wildlife. She continuously amazed us throughout the day with facts and discussions that connected all aspects of what we were seeing. The provisions (coffee, tea, snacks, and lunch) were all top-notch. We saw a multitude of animals including bison, elk, eagles, dippers, pronghorns, (and many others) as well as a lone wolf. The spotting equipment was excellent as well. Cannot recommend this tour highly enough! If you are thinking about booking, you absolutely should!
Absolutely amazing experience. We got a last minute tour with Emil after our other tour got canceled. We saw wolves, moose, bison, elk, fox and many others. We saw a black bear hibernating in her den. Emil is very knowledgeable having studied and worked with wildlife for many years, especially wolves and mountain lions. We learned about wolf packs and their hunting behavior. On one day of the tour we came across a fresh wolf kill. There was an elk carcass with a radio collar attached. Emil retrieved the collar and returned to the research scientists. There were plenty of bathroom, coffee and hot chocolate breaks and breakfast and lunch provided. We would highly recommend this tour for anyone that would like a wildlife tour of Yellowstone Park. Also, we stayed at the Wonderland Lodge and Cafe. The rooms and food were excellent and staff were very helpful and friendly.
A tour with Yellowstone Wild is the perfect way to spend a day in Yellowstone. My wife and I have been on three separate tours with Yellowstone Wild, and each has been more spectacular than the last. The guides are friendly, professional and extremely knowledgeable, and they will greatly enhance your experience in the park by sharing their expertise. These tours can also be tailored to your interests and your desired level of activity, so you can be sure that you will be completely satisfied by your time in the park. I give Yellowstone Wild my highest recommendation and strongly encourage anyone interested in exploring Yellowstone to book a tour with them. You will not be disappointed!
