WHAT BRINGS US HERE Okay, France no longer has the monopoly of top-notch gastronomy. But among foodies around the world there is still a consensus: French pastry is the best in the world. And today, this patisserie shines all over the planet. From Tokyo to New York, chefs are renowned for their excellence, technique and creativity. They travel the world to expose and sell their works. They present their collections as if they were jewelry from a great jewelry store. It is an art that uses as base ingredients: fruits, honey, sugar, flour, milk, flowers, teas and alcohol. That uses mathematics, chemistry and physics to create incredible and unthinkable things. That flirts with architecture, fine arts, history and geometry, not to mention fashion. It is from Paris that the latest creations and novelties are released to conquer the globe.

WHAT IS INCLUDED A feast! That will please not only the deepest fans of sweets but also, certainly, lovers of good food in general. Let’s explore the many expressions of French patisserie: from cookies to chocolates, from pies to brioches, from macarons to éclairs! It is practically impossible to cover all the delights that Paris has to offer. But we will certainly take you to meet and taste great samples of it. From the classics to the most innovative pastry. The cream of the cream.

Cool to know:  The hotel particulier (mansion) where the wine bar is located once belonged to Madame de Pompadour, the official chief mistress (yes, that was really a title) of King Louis XV back in the 1700s.

Bonus:   You get to sample a selection of smoked ham and saucisson,  and experience how well that also pairs with wine.

"The wines and cheeses were memorable, and we learned a lot.  This was a wonderful afternoon activity, and a relaxing break from sightseeing."

Arrived at CDG from JFK at 7:15 am on Saturday April 20th. Clearing passport control was very quick and easy. Gathering our luggage took about 20 minutes of wait time. We travelled on United Airlines. We took a taxi (large van) to the 7th, the ride was about 40 minutes and cost 92 euros. The driver made us pay in cash, we had to stop at an ATM on the way. I sort of think we were overcharged a bit. The signs say CDG to the Left Bank is 65 euros, but maybe it was because we had a large van for the four of us? I don’t know, but after an overnight flight , we weren’t in the mood to challenge the driver.

After a couple of hours recovery in the apartment, we went and had lunch at a café on Rue Cler called Café du Marche. I had a croque monsieur, which was perfectly fine, others had a very nice salad, a sea bass dish. The food was good and reasonably priced. Nothing overly memorable but it did the trick. BTW – the Rue Cler is a great little neighborhood street filled with bread/pastry shops, cheese shops, wine stores, patisserie’s, restaurants, coffee shops, etc.

We then proceeded to do a bit of a walk about. We left the Rue Cler and went to the Hotel Invalides and went through the building that houses Napolean’s tomb as well as a couple of the military exhibits. We did not use the self-guided tour, which was probably a mistake as all the exhibits only had French explanations. But honestly, we were a bit jet lagged and were fine with just looking at things. Unless you are really into learning about French military history/French WW2 resistance history, this may be one to miss. Although the Napolean’s tomb building is incredible inside. $32 US for 2 tickets.

We then walked through the Esplanade des Invalides, and over the Pont Alexander Bridge and walked by the Grand and Petit Palais . We were not interested in seeing the exhibit at the Petit Palais so kept moving on. The Grand Palis is under construction, and I don’t think is opening until the Olympics start. We took a left and went to the Place de la Concorde . They are erecting stands for the Olympic events in several areas around Paris, one of them being the Place de la Concorde. Others we say were a couple of locations at the Eiffle Tower, the Louvre. Other than that, you would never know the Olympics are coming. We saw literally no signage about the Olympics anywhere.

We left the Concorde and went to the Church of Sainte Marie Magdalene. I love seeing church’s so you will see many of them over the coming days. We then headed through the Jardin des Champs Elysees and walked up the Champs Elysees to the Arc de Triomphe (decided against walking to the top). I always have excitement when starting to walk up the Champs, but then am a little disappointed. It feels like walking in a mall with all the shops and crowds of people and not the romantic version I have in my head. Maybe I am just getting old!! We then walked down to the Place du Trocadero stopping along the way at a little café (Café Belloy on Avenue Kleber) to have some wine and charcuterie. While the weather was a bit cool (mid 50’s) we did sit outside and enjoyed a bit of drink and food. $122 for charcuterie and a couple glasses of champagne, small carafe of wine and a couple glasses of beer.

We moved on to the Place du Trocadero for the touristy photo of the Eiffel Tower . Yes it is touristy but boy is it a great spot to see the Eiffle! We walked back to the Apartment. The whole loop was about 6 miles.

Dinner on Day 1 was again on Rue Cler. We were tired and decided to stay local. A nice man from Britan gave us a recommendation during our lunch and we decided to eat at Café Central. I had the onion soup and I think a steak. Others had the carpaccio, beef tartare, tuna tartare, a pasta and 3 bottles of wine. Food was very good. The bill came to around $225. And that was Day 1! Total walking that day was 12 miles!

Thank you again for sharing all your escapades with us. It was a fabulous report!

CTCO, my husband is an actual sommelier so I have collateral knowledge!

Teacher, I love Sancerre because it is dry and crisp!

@CTCO, really enjoyed the report. Packed with good information.

I enjoyed your report. I end up quoting prices in USD in trip reports too if I'm writing later. My cards usually have the euro price on the actual statement but not on the transactions in the app. I do periodically check the statements too to see what exchange rate I'm getting. If someone is really interested, they can always do the conversion.

When I post budget type requests for assistance I post in the currency of the country I'm visiting. I do think that's easier for hotel help and such.

Here's What Taylor Swift Ate In Her $21K Paris Hotel Room

There's personal butler service and a private dining room for A-listers.

night three of taylor swift the eras tour paris, france

According to Page Six , Swift and her athlete boyfriend stayed at the Hôtel De Crillon, which is a part of the Rosewood Hotels & Resorts portfolio. The hotel includes 10 sprawling suites that range in price from $4,600 to Tay's $21,000-per-night digs.

The luxe suites were intended to "embody an expressly Parisian residential style that is equally warm and refined," per the hotel's website . The residential-style guest rooms were not only designed by the late, great Karl Lagerfeld but offer "an incomparable atmosphere of contemporary sophistication that respect's the landmark's 18th-century heritage."

And while the luxe hotel includes quite a few equally impressive perks—like a personal butler service—the haunt's culinary vision takes the experience a whole step further. The property's on-site restaurant, Nonos par Paul Pairet, features traditional French cuisine "with a twist" and includes an expansive oyster bar, steak frites, and a lobster gratin. The main dining hall has fresh seafood, charcuterie, and artisan cheeses while guests (like Swift) can enjoy 24/7 room service. We have a feeling Taylor didn't go hungry during the stay.

The hotel's Michelin-starred restaurant L'Écrin offers a "unforgettable sensory expedition" with five- or seven-course meals that are carefully curated alongside beverage pairings. Swift also had the Jardin d'Hiver tea room at her disposal, with all-day dining and desserts by head pastry chef Matthieu Carlin, while its Les Ambassadeurs bar is the perfect spot for a nightcap with friends like Gigi Hadid and Bradley Cooper, who cheered her on alongside Kelce in Paris.

There's even a private dining room called La Cave, which we can only assume came in handy for Miss Swift given her A-list status.
