Located at the crossroads of Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay, Iguazu Falls with 275 individual cascades is considered the most beautiful waterfall in the world. The Brazilian side of the falls has a walkway along the canyon that allows visitors to go all the way out on an extension to the lower base of Devil’s Throat, getting close enough to feel the mist on your face.

Rio de Janeiro:

The seaside city of Rio de Janeiro is Brazil’s most popular tourist spot as well as the most visited city in the southern hemisphere. Rio has breathtaking landscapes of towering mountains rising from the sea and stretches of sandy beaches lined with beautiful hotels. Brazilian Steak:

A churrascaria is a Brazilian steakhouse where meat is cooked on a South American style rotisserie and served rodízio style. Along with the slaves that European colonists brought to Brazil between the 16th and 19th centuries, came the dance and musical traditions of West Africa. The samba, along with many other Brazilian dances, has deep roots in African culture and was once considered a dance only for the lower class. Today, the Samba is now recognized around the world as a symbol of Brazil.

Caipirinha is Brazil’s national cocktail and an almost mandatory drink for all tourists to try. The drink consists of cachaça (sugarcane hard liquor), crushed lime, sugar and ice. It is tasty and refreshing, and it’s easy to see why it is a local favorite.

Woman dancing in colourful red and yellow costumes, with headdresses at the Rio carnival in Brazil

Everything in Brazil is bigger, brighter and bolder – from the waterfalls and jungles to the street parties and beaches. It’s no wonder there’s always a festival.

Brazilians are famous for their zest for life. The country is loaded with incredible natural attractions – the Amazon, roaring Iguazu Falls and jungle-clad mountains where you feel on top of the world (much like Christ the Redeemer). And let’s not forget Brazil’s infectious music – from samba and bossa nova to Afro-Brazilian beats – and a party to be had around every corner. And of course the pumping beaches, where you can play football until the sun dips low behind Corcovado.   Brazil   is your cue to pick up a caipirinha and join the fun.

Best time to visit brazil.

In most parts of Brazil, temperatures range from 20 to 30 degrees Celsius, regardless of the season. The summer months between December and February can be hot and humid, bringing temperatures to the high 30s – perfect weather to enjoy Brazil’s famous beaches. It’s also festival season, so it’s well worth visiting during this time.

Rainfall varies greatly around Brazil so depending on where you’re traveling, you could experience some rain. Around the Pantanal, Manaus and the Amazon basin, expect patches of rain all year round. Rio and the areas around Foz de Iguacu don’t have distinct rainy seasons and are typically drier than some other areas of Brazil.

The south of Brazil experiences extreme seasonal changes, so pack accordingly.

Culture and customs

Brazilians are universally known for their infectious enthusiasm and lust for life. The wild celebratory atmosphere of Carnaval isn’t a one-off —impromptu street parties, heaving nightclubs and busy dance halls all display the same vibrant energy and passion all year round. Travelers will find that music, dance and good times are all passionately pursued by most Brazilians, regardless of income, gender or age. But it doesn’t stop there. Fun is not limited to the dynamic bars and clubs of the big cities - the natural world is also enjoyed by most Brazilians. With so many spectacular beaches, national parks, mountains and forests, there are plenty of places for Brazilians to enjoy their favorite past times – football, surfing, swimming, hiking, volleyball and capoeira (a Brazilian blend of martial arts and dance). Brazilians are also known for being one of the most open, friendly and affectionate nationalities – personal space isn’t regarded as highly in Brazil as in most other countries, so expect to be hugged and kissed by new and old friends when traveling here.

In contrast to the exuberant, modern life that Brazil's city dwellers live, are the humble, traditional ways of the indigenous tribes that live in the Amazon and surrounds. Despite modern advances, many still live off the land – hunting for wild animals and gathering fruit and berries - although sadly this is rapidly changing due to deforestation and urbanization. In the face of this, many tribes still cling to their ancient culture through traditional clothing, dance and song.

Eating and drinking

Intrepid believes that one of the best ways to experience a country is by eating! Whether you're sampling street food, savoring a cheap eat or indulging in a banquet, there are endless options to choose from wherever you are in the world.

Brazil’s major cities feature a wide range of international cuisine, so it’s possible to eat a western-style breakfast, Mexican for lunch and Italian for dinner, with a few traditional Brazilian snacks in between. For an in-depth look at what you can eat in Brazil, visit our   South American food guide .

Things to try in Brazil

1. Churrasco

This traditional Brazilian barbecue is a true pleasure for meat eaters. Beef, pork, chicken, duck, lamb and fish are all skewered and cooked to perfection over hot coals, creating a smoky flavor and tender texture.

Brazil’s coastline is home to a bounty of marine life so when on the coast, be sure to eat seafood while it’s at its freshest. Fried baby octopus, king prawns and fragrant, seafood stew are great options.

3. Feijoada

This stew of beans and beef is Brazil’s national dish, and reflects its rich immigrant history. The flavors and style are a mix of African, Indian and Portuguese food traditions, making it a direct culinary link to Brazil’s past.

4. Caipirinha

This refreshing cocktail made from cachaca (a spirit derived from sugar cane), sugar, crushed ice and lime is the Brazilian national drink, and the perfect accompaniment to a beachside sunset.

Brazil has plenty of tropical fruits and berries – so for a quick snack, head to the markets and buy fresh bananas, limes, oranges, guava, jackfruit and acai berries.

Geography and environment

Being the fifth largest country in the world, Brazil shares land borders with many other countries including   Venezuela , Guyana,   Colombia ,   Peru ,   Bolivia , Paraguay,   Argentina , Uruguay, Suriname and French Guiana. Home to many different landscapes and ecosystems, Brazil’s natural environment is one of the most famous in the world. From the steamy tropical rainforest that surrounds the Amazon River and the swirling torrents of white water at Iguazu Falls, to the stunning beaches, reefs and islands of the coast, Brazil is certainly blessed with the very best of Mother Nature. Home to many of the world's most rare and endangered species, travelers will be able to see the full spectrum of colorful bird life, curious mammals, gigantic snakes and unique marine life.

With such a large population, Brazil’s major cities are busy, crowded and chaotic. It can take some getting used to, but once you’re working with the flow of the Brazilian way of life, you’ll begin to enjoy the pace. With a widening gap between the rich and the poor, housing can vary from large mansions in upscale neighborhoods and modern apartments right in the heart of the city, to humble tin sheds in the sprawling favelas. In some ways, Brazil’s major cities are full of contrasts but the universal appeal of partying, dancing and drinking seems to cross all cultural and social barriers.

History and government

Early history.

Indigenous tribes inhabited Brazil for centuries before the arrival of the first European settlers from Portugal in the 1500s. Colonization brought agriculture and crop growing to Brazil, resulting in extensive land clearing which dispossessed much of the indigenous population. The growing of sugar cane resulted in an influx of new residents, mainly slaves who brought rich African traditions with them. Remnants of this can still be seen in much of today’s music, dance and food. By the 19th century, coffee had taken the place of sugar as Brazil’s most valuable crop. The increase in coffee production brought a new wave of migrants to Brazil, mainly from Europe, and Brazil’s economy continued to flourish until the military coup of 1889.

Recent history

Brazil’s more recently history has also been characterized by wide spread immigration – especially during and after World War II - with large numbers of Jewish people choosing to flee persecution to live in Brazil, as well as significant numbers of people from the Middle East and other European countries.

In 1989, Brazil held its first democratic election in almost 30 years after decades of military rule. More recently, a stable government has resulted in increased economic prosperity, although many of Brazil’s residents are still impoverished, living well below the poverty line.

Top 10 beach spots of Brazil

1. praia do rosa.

The big surf and relaxed vibe of this hip holiday haven in Southern Brazil makes it a firm favorite with visitors and locals alike. Praia do Rosa manages to balance development with tradition - elegant small-scale hotels and eco-lodges provide the perfect place to rest after hiking, whale watching or surfing.

The cosmopolitan charms of this world-famous beach make it popular with people from all walks of life. Expect to see enthusiastic travelers, smug millionaires, bohemian artists and indifferent locals all enjoying Ipanema’s magnetic magic.

3. Jericoacoara

Far away from the showy extravagance of Rio lies this secluded spot only accessible by 4x4. Strictly protected from overdevelopment, the slow pace suits the windsurfers and kite surfers who prefer to get their thrills from the ocean's wild tides.

4. Lopes Mendes

This beach, located on the island of Ilha Grande, is considered one of Brazil’s best. The killer combination of fine white sand, great waves and clear, blue water guarantee perfect conditions for swimming, surfing and sun-worshipping.

5. Canoa Quebrada

This mellow hippie haven boasts stunning sand dunes and a deep blue-green sea. Horse riding on the dunes at sunset or cruising the coast on an old fishing boat are great ways to make the most of this picture perfect piece of Brazil.

Put on the world map by Bridget Bardot back in the 1960s, Buzios is the epitome of Brazilian sophistication. The designer boutiques, glam hotels and cool bars attract the celebrity jet set – but it’s the beautiful bays and beaches that are the true superstars of Buzios.

7. Copacabana

One of the world’s most famous urban beaches, Copacabana, is a top spot to indulge in a bit of people watching. Watch an eclectic mix of people play football, work on their tans and strut their stuff on this busy meeting spot that attracts all walks of life.

8. Praia da Mole

Soft white sand for lazing in the sun and a year-round supply of waves for surfing make this beach in Florianopolis a top pick. Paragliding, wakeboarding and other water sports provide more thrills, while the nearby bars and clubs ensure good times when the sun goes down.

9. Maragogi

Found on the Coral Coast of Brazil, Maragogi’s calm waters offer some respite from the big breaks found on many other Brazilian beaches. Colorful offshore reefs make snorkeling or scuba diving a must for visitors looking for aquatic adventures.

10. Tambaba

One for the free spirits of the world, Brazil’s only official nudist beach is flanked by steep, dramatic cliffs and dotted with swaying coconut palms. Choose to get cheeky and take advantage of lying on Brazil’s only sanctioned nudist beach in all your glory, or keep your kit on and stick to the “non-naturist” side.

Brazil’s two largest cities – Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo – offer a wide range of shopping opportunities, from high-end designer shops to independent boutiques and everything in between. Every mid-sized city will have at least one ‘shopping’ (what Brazilians call their shopping malls), but as you move to more rural and remote areas, your best bet is the local market.

Shopping tips in Rio

Peddlers roam Rio’s beaches offering an enormous range of items including footballs, bathing suits and jewelry. Be aware that the price might be good but the quality likely isn’t. For better quality bikinis and swim trunks, consider heading to Blue Man, Brazil’s most successful beachwear label. Or visit Barra Shopping, one of the largest malls in South America, which boasts more than 570 stores, a movie theatre, a bowling alley and a range of restaurants and bars. Rio also hosts a number of popular markets including the Hippie Fair in Ipanema, where more than 700 vendors sell one-of-a-kind jewelry, clothing, leather shoes, paintings and gourmet goods each Sunday. Like many markets, bargaining is accepted.

Responsible travel tip

You may come across goods made from the skins of protected species (such as reptiles or wild cats). Keeping with Intrepid’s commitment to responsible travel, please refrain from supporting any business that exploit or abuse endangered animals.

Festivals and events in Brazil

Rio carnival.

Colorful, raucous and hedonistic, there’s a reason Rio’s Carnival is one of the best-known parties in the world. The parade of elaborate floats and colorful, bejeweled dancers in barely-there costumes dancing to samba may be the main event, but the revelry begins a whole month before. Each February in the lead up to Lent, the caipirinhas are free-flowing as clubs hold glitzy parties and bandas (street parties also called blocos) take over the streets.

Parintins Folklore Festival (Bumba-mei-boi)

An annual spectacle that commemorates a legend about a pregnant woman’s craving for bull tongue, the murder of a bull to satisfy said craving, and the bull’s magical resurrection. Two teams retell the myth and attempt to outdo each other using flamboyant song and dance routines, colorful costumes and giant floats. Spectators cheer and moo to performances at this three-day June celebration.

Festa Junina

This nationwide festival held each June celebrates saints John the Baptist, Anthony and Peter, but celebrations in the north-east take on a distinctly country flair. People flock to rural fairs wearing straw hats and plaid shirts to feast on corn and sweet treats, play games and dance the quadrilha (similar to a square dance).

Rio New Year’s Eve

Join two million revelers decked in white at Copacabana beach for a unique New Year’s celebration. Before the concerts and massive fireworks display begins, Candomble worshippers (an Afro-Brazilian religion) push boats filled with flowers and other offerings into the sea in exchange for safe sailing in the upcoming year.

Is Brazil a safe destination for LGBTQIA+ travelers?

Brazil is a welcoming destination for LGBTQIA+ travelers. There is no law against homosexuality, and the country tends to be more tolerant than anywhere else in South America. Rio is considered the gay capital of Latin America, though Sao Paulo and Salvador have lively gay scenes as well. That being said, discretion is still advised in smaller towns, which tend to be more conservative.

Absolutely. All passengers traveling with Intrepid are required to purchase travel insurance before the start of their trip. Your travel insurance details will be recorded by your leader on the first day of the trip. Due to the varying nature, availability and cost of health care around the world, travel insurance is very much an essential and necessary part of every journey.

Does my trip to Brazil support The Intrepid Foundation?

Yes, all Intrepid trips support the Intrepid Foundation. In fact, we make a donation on behalf of every traveler. Trips to Brazil directly support our foundation partner, Gastromotiva Brazil .

Gastromotiva Brazil

Gastromotiva Brazil is tackling youth unemployment and homelessness while promoting a zero-waste movement. Gastromotiva addresses important social and environmental issues through job training, advocacy, and sustainable cooking classes. Donations from our trips support their professional cooking courses for vulnerable youth in Rio De Janeiro. Intrepid will double the impact by dollar-matching all post-trip donations made to The Intrepid Foundation.

About Brazil

Brazil is the largest country in South and Central America and the fifth largest in the world. Because of its size, it is a very diverse country in many aspects. The terrain includes mountains, hills, plains, rainforests and scrublands. The population of Brazil is a melting pot of races, including indigenous people, African and European, with the official language spoken being Portuguese. This variety is reflected in the food , architecture, music and culture of the country.

It is this diversity of places, people and traditions that make Brazil such an unforgettable place to visit. It is certainly known for its music and its fanatic interest in soccer. Musically, it has produced the Samba, the Bossa Nova, the Forro (both the music and dance) and the Capoeira (which involves dancing and martial arts). Brazil’s soccer team has won the World Cup five times and plays in the world’s largest soccer stadium located in Rio .

What are the top cities to visit on a Brazil vacation?

  • Rio de Janeiro

Rio de Janeiro is known for its breathtaking and stunning landscapes as well as its excellent and popular beaches. It is Brazil’s second-largest city, the inhabitants of which are known as Cariocas. It has a laid-back beach culture which can be experienced at Copacabana, Ipanema, Leblon and Sao Conrado, all well known beaches. But beaches are not all that Rio has to offer. The most amazing sights can be seen from the top of the large hill known as Corcovado, dominated by the statue of Christ the Redeemer and provides spectacular panoramic views. Sugarloaf Mountain, closer to the city, also provides beautiful views of the landscape; the view at sunset being exceptional. There are many other aspects to get excited about here on Brazil tours. One is the annual Carnival where the Cariocas display not only their enthusiasm for life but also their colourful costumes and rhythmic music.

Brazil's capital city, Brasília, was carved out of the jungles and completed in less than three years in 1960 when it became a showpiece of city planning and avant-garde architecture. Without the usual mix of residential and business districts, the entire government section of Brasilia is composed of major architectural highlights. These include the presidential palace, the Supreme Court and the two sharply contrasting congress buildings, plus the Historical Museum of Brasília and the Pantheon of Freedom designed by Oscar Niemeyer. The Brasilia TV Tower is a good place to get an interesting view of the city with its observation deck.

The upper town of Salvador , Brazil's former colonial capital and principal port for slaves arriving from Africa, is a UNESCO World Heritage site due to its exceptional collection of 17th and 18th Century colonial buildings, the finest in South America . Called the Pelourinho, this old quarter is where you will find Salvador's most beautiful churches and monasteries built at a time when Brazil was the source of Portugal's riches and gold was lavished on the colony's religious buildings. The finest and most opulent of the city's churches is Sao Francisco built in the early 1700s and filled with intricate carvings covered in gold. The upper and lower towns are linked by steep streets and a number of elevators and a funicular which has become a landmark in Salvador..

For more information on Salvador, click here

Manaus is a sprawling city in the heart of the Amazon region with a population of around 2 million. It is a busy port with an exciting nightlife. The ornate renaissance style Opera House built in 1896 is an interesting landmark. It is from Manaus that one can take a short cruise down the Amazon to see the “Meeting of the Waters” where two important tributaries of the Amazon collide. Not something to be missed on a Brazil tour.

For more information on Manaus, click here

Recife and Fortaleza

Recife , located in the very north of the country, is known as “the Brazilian Venice” due to the many waterways that meander through the heart of the city. It boasts one of the world’s best urban beaches. It is also a city of interesting churches and has an abundance of museums and art galleries. Fortaleza , the fifth largest city in Brazil is also blessed with attractive beaches.

For more information on Recife and Fortaleza , click here

Ouro Preto is the capital of the state of Minas Gerais. It had its heyday during the colonial period which is evident from the interiors of the churches in Ouro Preto. The entire walls are awash in gold along with diamonds from the mines surrounding the city in the 17th and 18th centuries. Ouro Preto has steep narrow streets lined by gracious colonial mansions, white churches and a mountain backdrop setting. The entire town is so rich in colonial architecture that Ouro Preto has been named a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Top things to do on a trip to Brazil

  • Iguassu Falls

Iguassu Falls is located in the very south of Brazil. Being taller than Niagara Falls and twice as wide, it is an amazing spectacle to visit while on a Brazil vacation. The view from the Brazilian side is the most panoramic. There are walkways along the canyon that offer beautiful views, as well as helicopter rides over the falls. The light is at its best in the morning.

For more information on Iguassu Falls, click here

The Amazon River, Jungle, and Rainforest

The Amazon Rainforest accounts for more than half of the world’s remaining forests and 20 percent of the world’s oxygen. One in 10 known species in the world can be found in the Amazon r egion, home to around 2.5 million insect species, tens of thousands of plants, and thousands of birds and mammals. Many areas in the jungle are difficult to get to and some are still unexplored. The villages along the river or in the jungle are mostly untouched by modern lifestyles. The people stick to traditional ways of living. In these villages, you will find medicine men, healers, shaman, and witch doctors. On Brazil vacations, you can take a cruise starting from Manaus . Situated in the heart of the rainforest, Manaus is the largest city in the Brazilian Amazon and is located on the Rio Negro a few miles before it meets the Rio Solimoes to form the Amazon River, properly called the “Meeting of the Waters.” This will be one of the highlights on your cruise.

For more information on The Amazon, click here

Wildlife and Nature

The Pantanal is the world’s largest wetland consisting of forests, lakes, and grasslands. It also spreads over into Paraguay and Bolivia. The flooded marshlands teem with everything from piranhas to jaguars and crocodiles. This is a place for nature lovers. The region’s protected areas include the Pantanal Matogrossense National Park and three private nature reserves where you can have the opportunity to view wildlife go on safari, go swimming and take canoe trips. The Pantanal is home to approximately 3500 known plant species, with more being discovered on a regular basis.

This tour will take you on a journey to explore Salvador’s ancient sites and landmarks in an unparalleled way as you delve deeper into this UNESCO World Heritage Site. Salvador is one of the oldest colonial cities in the Americas, which has a captivating and mysterious charm. Your tour includes so many activities spanning from its authentic cuisine to its charming squares, colorful buildings and a lot more.

One of the first destinations to visit for your adventure is the breathtaking beach called Pontal de Maracaipe. This magical beach, with its turquoise waters and soft sand, will charm you to take a quick swim as you attempt to dip your toe in the water. The waves crashing against the shore will sound like music to your ears, and you will feel the cool breeze on your face as you take in the stunning views.

After an awesome and well-deserved beach day, you’ll go to Praia Barra Grande, another must-see beach. Your experience at this beach will be unlike any other because the beaches themselves are vastly distinct, yet there are some commonalities.

Walking along the sand, you will notice how the sand splits this magnificent body of water in half, creating a one-of-a-kind and unforgettable view. The captivating beauty of the beach will leave you speechless, and you’ll want to spend hours walking barefoot on the sandy beach.

The scenic beach at Pontal do Maragogi is last but not least on the list of wonderful beaches to visit. Your experience here will be unlike any other beach since you will take a boat journey to the sea to see the natural pools beneath the surface. And the vibrant marine life beneath the turquoise sea will entice you to don the snorkeling equipment offered and dive deep into the underwater world.

The tour includes adventures to the Lencois Maranhenses National Park, Morro de Sao Paulo, Recife, Olinda, Fortaleza, and five additional places. It will be an ‘experience overload’.

This vacation takes a group of 8 people ranging in age from 1 to 99 years old and costs $3,260 per person for 11 days of food, accommodation, and transportation. It is also family-friendly and fully guided.

Their professional local guides are knowledgeable and very friendly, making it easy to approach them should you have any concerns.

The previous tour was jam-packed with visits to the best beaches of Brazil; on this tour, however, you will be taken on a journey through nature, experiencing the world’s largest wetland area – the Pantanal, in a way that few ever get to. From early morning to late evening, you will participate in various activities that will place you in real contact with nature, making the most of every moment of this adventure. No low energies whatsoever.

The first activity on your itinerary is a jeep photo safari on the Transpantaneira. As you drive through this huge natural wonder, you’ll come across a diverse range of wildlife, from giant otters to caimans and jaguars. So watch out!

The stunning landscapes and breathtaking views will leave you contemplating just how powerful nature can be, and the best part, you’ll find yourself snapping away with your camera, capturing every moment of this incredible journey. Perfect shots for IG posts.

One of the most serene moments of the tour is the canoe sailing down the river at sunset, surrounded by complete green vegetation, with the gentle roar of the water as you paddle being the only thing you hear. As you glide through the waters, you’ll feel a deep sense of peace and tranquillity that is very hard to find in the city.

If you have been to Pantanal by any chance, you will realize that riding horses is the region’s typical transportation, and guess what? You’ll get to experience it firsthand. As you ride through, you’ll be treated to some of the most spectacular sunsets you’ll ever see.

If we could add some more weight to that statement, we would. The colors of the sky blend with the stunning vegetation and the sunset lights reflecting on the water’s surface in a spectacular display; you will be left amazed and wondering at the beauty of nature.

This vacation takes a group of 10 people ranging in age from 1 to 99 years old and costs $1700 per person for 4 days of food, accommodation, and transportation. It is also family-friendly and fully guided.

Intrepid Travel

Intrepid Travel was created in 1989 by two Melbourne, Australia, men who embarked on an unconventional tourist route to Africa in their modified truck, which they filled with a variety of culinary products ranging from beers to loaves of bread.

As they discovered a new way of traveling that is very different from the traditional way of traveling, they decided to start something similar to help other travelers take on trips like theirs and unlock the secrets to genuine experiences – and thus Intrepid Travel was born.

Now giving more than 100,000 guests per year the opportunity to enjoy small group travel in the best way possible to destinations all over the world, Intrepid has done an epic job in growing its company to what it is today. They are community-first travelers who value their impact on these vulnerable communities that give so much to their guests. This is why Intrepid hires local services when the need arises, from accommodation to local guides.

Didn’t you notice that Brazil’s activities are as diverse and vivid as the country’s cultural mix? Well, we have realized that when one tour takes you to the beautiful beaches and another to the wondrous natural wetlands, you can look forward to another term taking you on an unforgettable journey through two of Rio de Janeiro’s most epic landmarks.

Tout d’abord, you will say hello to Christ the Redeemer – the iconic statue, standing tall and proud on Corcovado Mountain, beckoning you to come closer and bask in its glory. As you ascend to the mountain’s peak, you will witness the sweeping views of Rio’s stunning landscape meters below you.

Note: If you are afraid of heights, we will advise you not to ascend more than you can support, but if you are that big climber like some of us, then we will notify you to take a moment to catch your breath and allow the majesty of this place to sink in.

Now is the time to look up, way up, and gaze upon Christ the Redeemer’s face as you stand at the base of the statue, admiring its epic art and grandeur, from the robe’s folds to the serene expression on the face. What a tranquillity!

This vacation takes a group of 16 people ranging in age from 15 to 99 years old and costs $3185 per person for 6 days of food, accommodation, and transportation. It is also family-friendly and fully guided.

Chapada Diamantina Experienc e

Nattrip was created in 2010 when access to ecotourism and adventure tourism was limited or non-existent, particularly in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This prompted the establishment of a company focused on ecotourism in the eco-adventure category, which helps to promote a more responsible manner of seeing our tourist locations.

Since their inception, they have been lauded for their outstanding performance in promoting tourism in Brazil, and they have vowed never to relent or waiver. You can rely on local firms to take you to the best sites in Brazil because they know their nation better than anyone else.

Nattrip is well known as an adventure operator in Brazil for a reason; they have demonstrated all of their power in the corporate, educational, and travel markets to make travel easier and smoother for you when you visit Brazil.

If you think you know Bahia just because you’ve been to Salvador and the beaches, then it’s time to think again. Yep! Think again. The central region of this massive Brazilian state holds treasures that go far beyond whatever you have experienced, from its oldest churches to its largest collections of sacred art that you might not find anywhere else in Salvador. Umhu, you get that right. So you will be among the lucky few to experience Bahia to its core on this tour.

Feeling energetic? Let’s dive deeper into what is next on this impressive tour. Ahha! Chapada Diamantina – a gem of a National Conservation Unit encompassing the Chapada Diamantina National Park. This place boasts a unique biome and natural wonders and has a rich history you will learn about while visiting. Indigenous peoples, blacks, and their descendants all left their mark on this land, making it a melting pot of cultures.

Now, get ready to visit the main natural attractions of the Park, full of outstanding sights and breathtaking waterfalls – close your eyes for a moment and imagine the scenic views of this wonderful place. Places like Morro do Pai Inácio, Lagoa Encantada, and Cachoeira da Fumaça are next on the travel itinerary, but we do not have the space to put them all in ink, so we will leave them for your magical exploration.

This vacation takes 10 people aged 12 to 99 years old and costs $850 per person for 6 days of food, accommodation, and transportation. It is also family-friendly and fully guided.

Brazil and the UAE: a strategic partnership for the future

Over the past 20 years, the emirates has become one of the main partners of brazil in the middle east.

Mauro Vieira author image

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva meets Sheikh Zayed, the Founding Father, in Abu Dhabi in 2003. WAM/AFP

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva is visiting the UAE today. This is the second time President Lula is visiting the country: his first visit took place on December 2003 during his previous tenure as President of Brazil . Twenty years later, upon his return to the Emirates, he will find a modern, thriving and prosperous country, increasingly active in addressing regional and global challenges. President Lula will also be happy to see that the bilateral ties between Brazil and the UAE are now at their best and that his visit will contribute to further advance this successful partnership.

The strength of our bond is founded in our will to transform the present and in our vision of the future. Both Brazil and the UAE have young, industrious and creative populations, territories rich in natural resources, complementary agendas in many fields and a common concern about issues that demand urgent attention, such as sustainable environmental practices and more effective international governance, among others. The basis of our decision to build a strategic partnership between Brazil and the UAE lies in a relationship organised around shared values and ideas, oriented to the future and cemented in mutual trust and confidence.

Over the past 20 years, the UAE has become one of the main partners of Brazil in the Middle East. Few countries have managed to achieve so much diplomatic density with Brazil in such a short period. In addition to the impressive economic figures, our agenda has expanded to areas that range from culture to artificial intelligence, from space co-operation to modernisation of governmental practices, from sports to defence.

A crane lifts sugar sacks on the docks at Brazil's main ocean port, in Santos. The Emirates are today the main destination of Brazilian products among Arab countries. Reuters

This history of success would not be the same without the decisive and interested engagement of our peoples in this project: around 10,000 Brazilians now live in the Emirates ; Dubai and Abu Dhabi are today important tourist destinations for many Brazilians, who are serviced by daily flights connecting Brazil and the UAE; Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu has been resolutely embraced by Emirati people and has become quite popular in the country; Emirati investments have blossomed in many parts of the Brazilian territory and, on the other hand, over 30 Brazilian companies have set up branch offices in the Emirates.

The Emirates are today the main destination of Brazilian products among Arab countries. Our trade in 2022 reached $5.7 billion, an increase of 74 per cent in relation to 2021. We are proud to see that Brazil has become an important and reliable food supplier to the Emirates, strengthening the country's food security and stability. It is also encouraging to see the confidence Emirati investors have in the Brazilian market: the UAE is now the biggest Middle-Eastern investor in Brazil, with more than $10 billion invested in fields as diverse as infrastructure, mining, real state, entertainment and education.

Adia and Mubadala have played a decisive role not only in forming business ties and showing confidence in Brazilian economy but also in identifying projects with relevant social impact.

Another area of successful co-operation is climate action. Both countries understand the importance of fighting climate change and have taken significant steps towards achieving their respective Nationally Determined Contributions. Brazil is home to the world's largest rainforest, the Amazon, which plays a crucial role in mitigating the effects of climate change. Brazil also has one of the cleanest energy matrices in the world. Almost 85 per cent of electricity and 50 per cent of the total energy demand in Brazil is generated from renewable sources. Meanwhile, the UAE has made significant investments in renewable energy, with ambitious goals to increase the use of clean energy in the country.

In this regard, Brazil is committed to supporting the UAE as the hosts of the 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (Cop28) this year. We are confident that the UAE will host a successful conference and contribute significantly to the global climate action agenda. As part of our commitment to advancing that agenda, Brazil is expected to bid to host Cop30, and we will be working closely with our Emirati partners in this regard. We believe that Brazil has much to offer as a host country and that our bid will provide a valuable opportunity to showcase our commitment to climate action and sustainable development.

Brazil and the UAE have also shown an outstanding capacity for co-ordination on international issues in multilateral fora, especially in the UN Security Council where both countries coincide as non-permanent members, for the biennium 2022-2023. Both Brazil and the UAE have been resolute advocates of international co-operation as a tool to promote security and lasting peace. For this reason, I am confident that the upcoming Emirati presidency of the Council in June 2023 and the Brazilian presidency next October 2023 will present unique occasions for our countries to keep strengthening the dialogue on key global security issues.

The visit of President Lula to Abu Dhabi will not only be an opportunity to advance agreements and declarations that will energise our bilateral relations in different areas. His visit will also convey to President Sheikh Mohammed and to the Emirati people a clear message of confidence in our relations and in our capacity to work together for the prosperity and well-being of Brazilians and Emiratis.

RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil – Due to weather delays that have impacted the competition schedule, the 69th ECP Brazil Open has been shortened to 54 holes, the PGA TOUR Americas Rules Committee announced Friday.

Thursday’s first round was delayed 6 hours, 20 minutes due to rain and unplayable course conditions at the Rio Olympic Course in Rio de Janeiro. The first 24 groups began their first rounds at 1 p.m. Thursday, and play was suspended due to darkness at 5:29 p.m. The 24 groups in the afternoon wave began their first rounds at 8 a.m. local time Friday.

The Rules Committee expects the second round to be complete by the end of Saturday. Considering the amount of daylight available, the Rules Committee determined it’s not possible to play 36 holes on Sunday, and therefore shortened the event to 54 holes.

“While the weather and course conditions have been challenging, I commend the golf course maintenance staff as we work towards a 54-hole event and crowning a worthy champion,” said John Slater, PGA TOUR Americas Chief Referee.

Per PGA TOUR Americas regulations, if event consists of at least 54 holes, the tournament will be considered official and Fortinet Cup points will be awarded.

Through 18 holes, David Pastore, Andrew Alligood and Brendon Doyle share the lead after first-round scores of 7-under 64.

Dubai floods: Chaos, queues and submerged cars after UAE hit by record rains

Passengers report being stranded in the desert city as the international hub struggles in the wake of unusually heavy rain

Don’t blame cloud seeding for the Dubai floods

Dubai is wrestling with the aftermath of extraordinary torrential rains that flooded the desert city, with people describing harrowing stories of spending the night in their cars, and air passengers enduring chaotic scenes at airports.

Up to 259.5mm (10.2in) of rain fell on the usually arid country of the United Arab Emirates on Tuesday, the most since records began 75 years ago . The state-run WAM news agency called the rains on Tuesday “a historic weather event” that surpassed “anything documented since the start of data collection in 1949”.

As the sun returned on Wednesday, along with it came stories of people stuck in cars and offices through an arduous night.

“It was one of the most horrific situations I had ever experienced,” said one Dubai resident in his 30s, who did not want to give his name, after his 15-minute commute turned into a 12-hour ordeal on flooded roads.

At Dubai’s airport, one of the busiest for international travel, with nearly every flight repeatedly delayed, Emirates passengers were told to stay away “unless absolutely necessary”.

Frustration from those already there began to build.

A large crowd formed at a connections desk, clapping and whistling in protest as they waited for information.

“They are completely lost, it’s complete chaos – no information, nothing,” fumed one passenger, who did not want to be named, after a 12-hour wait, Agence France-Presse reported.

Standing water lapped on taxiways as aircraft landed. One couple called the situation “absolute carnage”. They spoke to the Associated Press on condition of anonymity in order to speak freely in a country with strict laws that criminalise critical speech. “You cannot get a taxi. There’s people sleeping in the Metro station. There’s people sleeping in the airport.”

The BBC reported other passengers were diverted to Dubai World Central Airport – also known as Al Maktoum airport – telling the broadcaster they had been “living on duty free” and that water was in short supply.

One furious British traveller told PA Media that once his flight was diverted to Dubai World Central, he had not been given any food or water either. “It’s just been an absolute disaster. We’re stuck here and seven hours without a single update is inexcusable.”

Emirates, Dubai’s flagship airline, posted on X on Wednesday night: “Customers should expect delays with departures and arrivals” and that while some passengers had been able to get to their destinations “we are aware that many are still waiting to get on flights”.

The airline cancelled all check-ins and announced that it would continue to suspend services until Thursday morning, apologising for the disruptions. Those on FlyDubai, Emirates’ low-cost sister airline, also faced delays.

Dubai airport posted on X early on Thursday that flights had resumed from Terminal 1 but urged people to travel to the airport only if they had a confirmed booking, as flights continued to be “delayed and disrupted”.

Paul Griffiths, the airport’s CEO, acknowledged the issues with flooding on Wednesday. “It remains an incredibly challenging time. In living memory, I don’t think anyone has ever seen conditions like it,” Griffiths told the state-owned talk radio station Dubai Eye.

Neighbouring countries were also hit by heavy rains earlier this week, including Oman, where 20 people have died, including 10 schoolchildren swept away in a vehicle with an adult.

Soldiers were deployed to badly affected areas of the sultanate, which rests on the eastern edge of the Arabian peninsula, to evacuate people trapped by flooding.

Schools will stay closed in Dubai until next week, authorities said, underscoring the difficulty of the clean-up.

In an unusual direct intervention, the UAE president, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, ordered “authorities to quickly work on studying the condition of infrastructure throughout the UAE and to limit the damage caused”, official media said.

The president also gave orders for affected families to be transferred to safe locations, said a statement carried by the WAM news agency.

Dubai’s ruler, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum, wrote on X about “efforts being made by teams of citizens and residents that continue day and night” as the city’s media office posted video overlayed with dramatic music of officials conferring in groups and water pumping appearing to take place in the background.

Photos too were posted of what it said showed water flooding into desert areas.

Similar scenes were visible around the Gulf state including in Sharjah, in neighbouring Dubai, where people waded through main streets and paddled around on makeshift boats.

At least one person was killed in the flooding. A 70-year-old man who was swept away in his car in Ras al-Khaimah, one of the country’s seven emirates, according to police.

The UAE government announced that remote working for most federal government employees had been extended into another day because of the impact.
