Caravan Tour of Grand Canyon, Lake Powell, Bryce and Zion Canyons

Outstanding bus tour of these attractions (Phoenix to Vegas). A bus tour is great for an overview if you have never been to this area before and want to cover all these parks. Lots of distance driving. We had never been to the Southwest before but have been to many of the national parks in the Rockies (Rocky Mountain, Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, Glacier and Banff). This trip was well worth it. Excellent accomodations in the national parks (Grand Canyon, Lake Powell and Zion). Logistics were well planned and plenty of free time for hiking or whatever. Our tour director was excellent and had been a park ranger for many years so he was very passionate about the parks that we visited. Caravan did a great job, outstanding value. For those of you considering driving yourself, we started in Phoenix and ended up in Vegas. Lots of driving that is tiring and only the passenger gets to enjoy the view. The tour guide gave us a lot of helpful hints on what to see or avoid. All breakfasts included and two nights dinner-very good food. A very memorable trip. Ready to do another Caravan Tour.

The South Rim trail is paved for much of the way, and offers great viewing of the Canyon. There are walls for most of the trail, but not all, so visitors are cautioned to be careful. It is a long way down!

The Grand Canyon has to be experience. I certainly don't have the words to discribe it's majesty. Most visitors are nice and not pushy. We didn't see an condors, but did see elk. The ranger programs are very good.

It was well worth the effort to get there, one of the wonders of the world.

We drove from Flagstaff to Williams and up the main road. It was not congested but ran into several drivers going way under the speed limit and the road is only two lanes and not many passing opportunities. THe one mistake we made was not to bring our own lunch. Food choices are limited in the Grand Canyon and we ended up at their cafeteria which was the worst food I have ever eaten and way overpiced. You would be better off to bring a picnic lunch. Most of the hikes into the canyon are for experienced hikers. We walked the south rim near the main visitors center and boarded the bus to some of the outlying areas to the west. We stopped in our own car at many of the main sites on the road out of the Grand Canyon that ends up in Cameron as we were going to Page. Great photo opps. A once in a lifetime experience. We opted to stay in Sedona and drive up and it was only a 2 hour drive. Plan ahead and read the Grand Canyon web site. There's so many options of hiking, mule rides, river rafting, etc. so find what you like to do.

I would spend every penny to go see it again! We hired Papillon Helicopter tours and the absolutely had a blast. Next time we go to Vegas, I'll be searching Papillon's website for more great discounts to the Canyon. Maybe next time, we'll do the boat ride in that muddy river. ;)

Just wondering how many people are on the bus? Is it really crowded?

We had about 35 people on our bus. They normally are not filled to capacity. Hope this helps. Happy travels.

What can I say, they are the best. I've been on other bus tours and they blow them all away. We had flight problems our first day and I called them to let them know. On their own they set up a private tour of Mt. Rushmore for both me and my father. They were in contact with me throughout whole flight in problems. Our tour guide Tom was awesome, funny and very knowledgeable. Any issues he handled for us. Out bus drive Ray was very professional and took pride in his job. They have made a customer for life. I really appreciate what they did and answered the phone at all hours to help us. Thank you so much

Just got back from Costa Rica, with Alejandra Guevara as our tourguide and Rollo as our busdriver. This was a wonderful trip and I credit it all to Alejandra! Her knowledge, her eloquence of sharing that info, we had a few health issues crop up with our fellow travelers, she handled it with expertise and empathy. Having the layover of three days at the Barcelo Gamble Resort was a nice touch to relax and enjoy the resorts amenities and be off the bus for a bit. Good staff, welcoming and helpful, good food, and lovely grounds were found there. We were cautioned this was not the usual resort and it was older, it was fine. They only issue was the rooms could have used a deeper cleaning and we had to ask for face cloths and towels each day to have enough. That was minor compared to the experience we had traveling in this wonderful country. I would recommend this Caravan trip to all who want to travel to Central America. We were well taken care off, superior customer service.

Fantastic tours at a very affordable price point. The support from the office in Chicago when anything goes amiss is fast, efficient and memorable. Their efforts to please their tour passengers over the years has helped build their tremendously-loyal following.

This has been my third Caravan Tour and my husband has celiac and a shout out to our tour director Tom who was truly concerned about his restriction in advocating this situation as well as giving us advice and tips on the trip. Also Joel our bus driver with a spotless bus and getting us to our destinations timely. A great group of people. I have made friends on other trips who I still have but this group is special. Thank you so much Tom and Lisa frim the BROMLEY Market and caravan for a great dinner. Your friend Laura Bisignano

First time tour with Caravan and was not disappointed. After waiting 3 years for our tour to get available post COVID it was great to finally get on the road. The tour hit a lot of the highlights through the canyons and parks and was as enjoyable and relaxing as a tour could be. 2 nights per hotel stay gave us time to explore on our own and chose our meals at our times. We only had 27 people on the tour so the bus was wide open and all the on/off/luggage/"trading post" breaks moved quickly due to the smaller group. A big shout out to our guide Captain Kirk who filled us in with great info on upcoming stops as well as knowing when to give us quiet time with either a movie or music on the bus. His humor, sense of adventure and openness made him fit in with our active and fun group and saying goodbye was difficult for all of us. Will definitely consider a tour with this company again.

I requested 4 travel brochure 9 of my friends were interested in 2 tours you offer. The Grand Canyon tour as well as the New England Fall Colors tour. We wanted both this fall. I sent the brochure request 2 months ago. We were coming from different parts of the country. None of us received brochures. I called Caravan 2 days ago and was told there were no brochure's for 2023 tour season and probably no brochure's for 2024. For those of us that took the time to request your brochure. Caravan should have been courteous enough to have email us, letting us know there were no brochures coming. I called today to reconfirm as to the status of brochures for your 2024 season. I spoke with Lydia she informed me that we are now in the digital age and could have to book online. The have traveled on your tours, the reason I have is because of your beautiful brochures, that I can read and study at my leisure. Making plans with friends from all parts of the country to meet for these tours. To now have to go online to look at, study & decide while front of a computer screen for 9 people, is disappointing to say the least. Good Customer Service, I don't think so......

Mexico's copper canyon tour - It was a very disappointing tour by Caravan. I would not recommend this tour to anyone. The booklet says it is a 7 hour bus ride from El Paso to Creel where the train departs. In reality it was a 12.5 to 13 hour bus ride. It was very uncomfortable and we did it all in one day. Food was well below average , there was no options for Vegetarian food , it was was very bland and poor. They did not even have a welcome dinner on the first night in El Paso. Hotels were nice. The train ride was very uncomfortable where the heating was not working and our Executive class coach had very dirty windows where we could not see the Copper canyon from our windows. Restaurant selection was average and in many cases they provided cold lunch boxes on the train ride. Overall this trip was not worth it ... our guide was average .

Caravan Tours.... Sedona, Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, Lake Powell, Bryce, and Zion. This is our 6th Caravan Tour and 1st in the USA and we had a fun trip with enjoyable sites and plenty of coach time. Hotels are satisfactory for the cost but expect parking lot or rear views from your room. Most days start with luggage out at 7:00 and a departure at 8:00 following the complimentary breakfast. There was considerable traffic in Sedona accompanied with lots of people. Our 20-person tour group stayed in the Maswik Lodge at the Grand Canyon and we had complimentary breakfast there and dinner at the Arizona Restaurant. The Arizona is quiet expensive if you are on your own. We were lucky and spotted 4 California Condors at Bright Angel Trail. Monument Valley was fun while riding on the back of the seated pickup with our Navajo Indian guide who sang songs to us in her native language. I'm still trying to figure out why we stayed at Lake Powell since there is little to keep one occupied. We did take a boat trip to Glen Falls Dam, however. Bryce Canyon is interesting with spectacular views of the "hoodoos" but pales in comparison to Zion where we walked the Riverwalk Trail and the Grotto Trail. during the Zion adventure we stayed for two nights at the Fairview Inn in virgin, Utah. The hotel is very nice but located 30 minutes from Zion NP. There are no convenience stores within several miles and the nearest restaurant is over a mile away. The Fairview does not have a restaurant that serves lunch or dinner. God only knows why Caravan did not book the group at Springdale just outside of Zion and full of hotels and restaurants. Our trip ended in Las Vegas with a quick trip down "The Strip", and the group was deposited at the airport at 10:30. We chose to rent a car and drove south to Primm to see the Bonnie and Clyde "murder car" at Buffalo Bill's and returned to see Hoover Dam. Caravan trips are fun and certainly worth the cost. Our trip was $1695 and we went in early May before a cost increase...and, the summer crowds arriving.

Great group of people on the bus. We were told to sit by family/friends on first day because there would be a rotation on the bus throughout the tour. This allows family to remain together as the rotation occurs. After the first rotation we were put in the back away from our family?! Other groups seemed to remain together? There were people who always got the very back because they needed two seats. Unfortunately, one of which was coughing so much that other passengers were constantly offering cough drops. She refused and said she had them. Adding to the problem, she wouldn't wear a mask. Halfway, she felt too sick to continue and supposedly tested negative. Asymptomatic or just not showing yet, she went home. Since we were in the back during most rotations, we both tested positive when home. Fortunately, my other family, who we should have been with were never stat near us are fine. Our first Caravan tour was on a very nice bus. On this tour the bus was run down, less quality/functionality. Some seats were broken and many seatbelts didn't work. Sadly this is our last trip using Caravan. Save up some money and splurge on a better company.

We just got back from our second Caravan Tour. In 2020 we went to Costa Rica. This year, we went to Panama. Both tours were fantastic. I highly recommend both of these and Caravan. I love that all their tours have a highly knowledgeable tour guide and a great bus driver. You stay at lovely hotels and eat delicious food. I also love that everything is included in these tours other than your air fare. The meals are buffet style, so you can try a little of everything and go back for more of your favorite items at breakfast, lunch and dinner. The excursions are fantastic. You see some extraordinary things and learn a great deal about the culture of the country and the various cities/communities you visit. They also have some wonderful entertainment one or two nights of your trip. The people on these tours have all been very friendly and fun to be around. We are already trying to decide which Caravan tour we want to do next.

Grand Canyon Bus Tours

Each year millions of tourists choose to visit the Grand Canyon on their own however,  Grand Canyon bus tours are your best bet if you want a Grand Canyon tour that is fully guided.

Our Caravan tour operators structure their guided Grand Canyon bus tours to include most of the Grand Canyon’s best features. Tourists enjoy our Grand Canyon motor coach tours because they can travel in comfort and not have to worry about parking or trying to decipher Grand Canyon maps.

Grand Canyon Shuttle Bus Tours

While there are shuttle bus routes within Grand Canyon National Park there are also many shuttle bus services that bring tourists from neighboring cities like Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Sedona, Phoenix, Flagstaff, and Scottsdale.

Visitors who come to Grand Canyon Park without their own transportation can choose to ride on the free park shuttle bus service. There are many different bus routes and tour stops to choose from and buses are color-coded to serve the different routes. Visitors are free to hop on and off of these Park shuttle buses to enjoy specific sites within the Park at their leisure.

Hermit’s Rest Bus Tour

Hermit’s Rest Route is a Grand Canyon shuttle bus available between March 1 and November 30 and runs regularly every quarter or half hour, depending on the time of day and time of year. The Hermit’s Rest Route is considered the longest bus route in the Park and includes the most number of stops. The bus trip alone, not counting the stops, runs one hour and 15 minutes long. Several of the popular stops along the bus route in Grand Canyon National Park include the Abyss, Hopi Point, Trailview Overlook, and Hermit’s Rest.

Grand Canyon Village Shuttle Bus Route

The Village Route, which makes runs the whole year round, was not designed as a scenic bus route. The destinations on the Village Bus Route include the different Grand Canyon restaurants, campgrounds, parking lots, and hotels. The Village Route bus is also available every 15 to 30 minutes and the roundtrip is about an hour long. The bus trip begins at the Information Plaza with scheduled stops at the Train Depot, Maswik Lodge, Trailer Village, and the Mather Campground. The Village Route bus is your best choice if you bring your own vehicle to Grand Canyon National Park or if you are staying in the campgrounds.

South Kaibab Trail Bus

The South Kaibab Trail Route travels every half an hour and is available the whole year round. The two wonderful features of the Kaibab Trail bus route is that first, it is the only shuttle bus service that gives access to Yaki Point; and second, is the offering of the Hiker’s Express shuttle that would bring travelers to the South Kaibab Trail. The Hiker’s Express Grand Canyon is for night owls as this bus leaves the terminal between the hours of 4 and 6 AM.

Grand Canyon Rim to Rim Shuttle

The Grand Canyon’s Rim to Rim Shuttle bus affords tourists a daily trip between the Grand Canyon North Rim and the South Rim. The Rim to Rim shuttle bus is a single-way trip. This route is also limited until the month of October when this Grand Canyon bus route is closed to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon because of the winter season. "You guys have your act together. It was like a dream come true for a first timer traveling alone. Nothing went wrong, it all went right. You can't go wrong with Caravan. It's an adventure without the risk. Pure fun, and the new friends you will make are priceless." Ms. K.P., Boynton Beach, Florida
"This tour was the most amazing trip on which we've ever been. This was our first trip out West and we could not have asked for a better, more enjoyable and more valued tour! The hotels were great, the sights were breathtaking, and the meals were excellent. I enjoyed the food and the friendly staff. I would recommend this tour along with our same tour director and driver. We never felt rushed and we can't wait to go on another Caravan tour. Thank you for a truly memorable and extremely valued tour. Keep up the good work." Mr. & Mrs. S.P., Harrisonburg, Virginia
"This is a 'five star' trip that everyone should take the time to do. Enjoyed the leisurely pace, delicious meals, and outstanding side trips. Not only was there breathtaking scenery in the Grand Canyon, but everyday promised more and better things to see. Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon, Zion National Park, Lake Powell, Monument Valley, I can't say enough good things. Thanks to our tour director, we learned SO MUCH about our country's history in the West. This was our first Caravan tour. Caravan is a very organized, efficient tour group that we will take again. THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH!" Mr. & Mrs. J.G., Venice, Florida
"I have always been a cruise person, but you have converted me! The whole trip was one wonderful sightseeing adventure. I am so glad we took a guided tour as opposed to driving so both of us could see the sights rather than one driving and missing it all. The tour director and driver were excellent in alerting us in advance of upcoming views. I had no idea how beautiful the area was and how unique each park would be. Being able to see the diverse areas on the tour made it even more spectacular than I could have imagined. This trip was way beyond my expectations. I have only done day tours so I was not sure what to expect. By the end, I felt like everyone was family. I have never been so sorry to see a trip end. If all the tours are as good as this was and the tour directors are as knowledgeable as ours, we will be on more Caravan tours. I have read about all the canyons, but I never imagined the beauty of each of them and the other areas we visited." Mr. & Mrs. J.R. Yorktown, Virginia
"Caravan is so value packed and has attended to the most minute detail to get the most value for our money. The hotels were terrific! Loved not having to deal with luggage. Once on the tour, they treated us like royalty! The meals were all EXCELLENT! I was so impressed that Caravan provided such wonderful meals in our tour cost. We absolutely had the 'dream team' with our tour director and driver! I enjoyed the sightseeing activities and I also enjoyed the 'free time' in each National Park. The tram system allowed each of us to do as much as we wanted. It was our first guided tour, but it won't be the last. I wouldn't choose another company if Caravan has a package of where we want to go. Some friends drove from Oklahoma and made the same trip. They spent twice the money and didn't see half of what we did. This was my first Caravan tour and it will not be my last. It was exactly what was described in the brochure. It was smoothly run and enjoyable. Thank you for making it so great for so many for so long! It was a great trip and we would choose Caravan in the future!" Mr. & Mrs. J.W., Downers Grove, Illinois
"The entire tour lived up to and exceeded our expectations. We enjoyed the fact that I didn't have to drive. The hotels and meals were taken care of as well as luggage handled professionally and in a very timely manner. We really enjoyed this tour and are of the opinion that we would struggle to duplicate it entirely on our own. Very enjoyable, a good mix of people from different parts of our country who became our friends on the road. In terms of bang for the buck, it is a deal hard to beat in today's world of high gasoline prices. We look forward to another trip with Caravan, next year to Yellowstone, hoping to see our same tour guide again." Mr. & Mrs. B.W., Monroe, North Carolina
"Overall, a wonderful eight days, during which I was exposed to sights I never thought existed. The tour was well conducted, the accommodations were excellent and the food was great. Don't know how you do it for what you charge. Will strongly consider other Caravan offerings, and recommend this tour to others." Mr. & Mrs. D.B., Pinellas Park, Florida

Nicki minaj brings out cyndi lauper for 'pink friday girls' duet, nicki minaj & cyndi lauper pink friday girls ... just wanna have fun 💞.

Nicki Minaj pulled out all the stops with surprise guests at her New York homecoming 'Pink Friday 2' tour stop but no one expected her grand reveal -- the one and only Cyndi Lauper !!!

The iconic singer shocked the Barclays Center, full of Barbs on Wednesday night, as Nicki brought the house down performing “Pink Friday Girls.”

Cyndi’s style is still as eclectic as ever … she hit the stage with a multi-colored graffiti jacket and her signature spiky hairdo.

Nicki’s record samples Cyndi’s classic “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun,” and it was a once-in-a-lifetime moment to see her step in with her own golden vocals!!!

When it was all said and done, both artists shared a big hug and a moment of mutual respect and appreciation ... but, ultimately, Nicki bowed graciously to thank her special guest for joining her onstage. She also told the crowd what an inspiration Cyndi had been to her.

Young M.A. , Kai Cenat and Pepa from Salt N Pepa were also in the building.

A great night for Gag City!!!

Michigan Central Station to celebrate reopening with 10 days of tours, concert

caravan grand tour

Detroit — As restoration of Michigan Central nears the finish line, plans are moving forward for the former train station's grand opening in early June, which will include a concert for 15,000 people and several days of free public tours.

Michigan Central's team on Tuesday asked the Detroit City Council for permits to host the grand opening. Events will run from June 6-16 with performances, station tours, discussions and family-friendly activities, said CEO Joshua Sirefman.

"Our celebration is going to have two core pieces, a free concert we call 'Open Live' on June 6 to celebrate all the station has meant for the city and what it will mean going forward," said Sirefman. "We anticipate an audience of 15,000 for this. This will be free and we will make sure the residents in the immediate neighborhood have priority access to tickets."

The station's public opening comes 36 years after the last train left the station on Michigan Avenue in Detroit's Corktown neighborhood. Ford Motor Co. purchased the building and its surrounding campus in 2018 and has spent hundreds of millions of dollars restoring the area and station.

Sirefman said Michigan Central expects 60,000 people to tour the station over 10 days in June.

"The goal of that experience will be to celebrate the restoration and revitalization of the building," he said.

The station will open to media first on June 6 and an event to thank those who supported the Michigan Central Children's Endowment, led by Bill and Lisa Ford, begins at 5 p.m.

There will be a 90-minute outdoor free concert at 8:30 p.m. Gates for the concert will open at 6 p.m. The event will also be streamed globally, though performers haven't been announced. Pre-registration will be required for all events.

Then on June 7, there will be VIP and general entry tours, an open forum with leadership of the tower and Newlab at Michigan Central. There also will be food service, performances, displays and activities expected.

The station will host free ticketed tours from noon-10 p.m. June 7; 10 a.m.-10 p.m. June 8; and 10 a.m.-6 p.m. June 9. The open house and festival continues noon-8 p.m. June 10-13; from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. June 14-15; and from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. June 16.

The weekends will have programming with multiple performances per day, demonstrations and music. Weekdays will have a light programming approach with a few spikes of interest each day, according to the permit request.

Open houses will continue June 21 through Aug. 31 from 5-9 p.m. Fridays, 10 a.m.- 5 p.m. on Saturdays.

An "OPEN" sculpture will guide visitors to the entry point of the open houses alongside empty frames people can pose with the train station in the background. Food trucks will line the streets to serve a variety of options from around the surrounding communities.

There also will be a shuttle service and more parking for festivities, Sirefman said.

In 2018, Ford acquired the station and several nearby buildings for $90 million from the Moroun family, the billionaire owners of the Ambassador Bridge. With the state approving tax breaks at the time estimated at $207 million, there was the promise of a revitalization of the shuttered icon.

That year,  40,000 visitors  waited to see the vacant 1913-built rail stop before extensive renovations began.

The 30-acre Corktown mobility innovation hub anchored by the station eventually anticipates one day being home to 5,000 tax-paying jobs, as Ford promised in 2018. Half are expected to come from the Dearborn automaker’s advanced technology teams and the rest from startups and suppliers. Fulfilling the vision, though, is likely to take years, according to the project's leaders, who promise more details will be shared in June.

Ford has estimated the price tag to restore the entire Corktown campus at $950 million, but it wouldn't say how much has been spent restoring the 500,000-square-foot train station. Over the last six years, 3,100 workers put in more than 1.7 million hours into its construction.

Although restoration will be complete in time for the open house in June, the station won't immediately be the buzzing center of shops, restaurants, Ford employees at work and overnight visitors.

"We will start after that, the long process of activating the building over time," Sirefman said.

Still, Ford is expected to occupy several floors in the station's tower, according to two sources familiar with the situation. There are plans for a still-to-be-named hotel to occupy the top three stories. Other businesses will have some tie into advanced tech, electrification or mobility.

Restaurants and shops on the ground floor are being curated by Roslyn Karamoko, founder of Detroit Is The New Black apparel brand. Art installations will pay homage to the station's history, and there'll be space for public gatherings and live music performances on its campus. There's also potential for the  return of passenger rail service nearby .

District 6 Councilwoman Gabriela Santiago-Romero said the NFL Draft was not as successful near Corktown and Southwest Detroit as previously expected and asked how the station would make more efforts to boost nearby businesses outside their campus.

"We want Michigan Central to feel a part of the neighborhood," Sirefman responded. "We're going to have a partnership with all the local businesses. ... We are going to have limited availability for food and beverages on site but we want to make sure local businesses are highlighted. We are still working on shuttle services for the event but I think that could create opportunities and ensure people are in the neighborhoods."

The petition for the grand opening permits was sent to the council's Neighborhood and Community Services Standing Committee for a vote before returning to formal session next week.
