Where is located the Port of Klaipeda Cruise Terminal
Your ship will dock at the port of Klaipeda. The Klaipeda cruise terminal is located 100 meters of the city. You can easily reach the historic center of the town on foot.
A tourist information kiosk is located at the port. They offer a map of the city that proposes an itinerary to visit the city. If the kiosk is not open, there is a small box containing the maps in a few languages.

Historical sites
Castle of klaipėda & museum.
The castle was built by the Livonian Order in 1252 and abandoned after the Seven Years’ War. Part of the castle was destroyed in the 1770s. In its ramparts, exhibitions about the history of the castle, the history of the city and the events surrounding the Second World War are on display. Closed on Sunday and Monday.
An aquarium and shows featuring dolphins are presented at this museum located on the Curonian Spit in front of the old town of Klaipeda. To get there, you can take the passenger ferry from the Old Ferry Terminal. The museum is 1.8 km from where the ferry will leave you. A little tourist train is also available to reach the museum.
Museum of the History of Lithuania Minor
Located in an old Baroque-style house, this museum presents the history of the region since prehistoric times.
Blacksmith’s Museum
This museum is located in the workshop of Gustav Katzke a blacksmith of the turn of the 20th century. Tools and hand-forged items are on display.
Cold War Museum
A museum and the remains of the USSR military base and nuclear missile launch silos can be found at this site on the outskirts of the city.
Clock and Watch Museum
Presents the history of clocks and watchmaking and its evolution over time. Closed on Monday.
Amber Museum
This museum located outside the city has a collection of about 28,000 pieces of amber, of which nearly 4,500 are on display and several of which have insects caught in amber. Jewelry and amber sculptures are also on display.
Curonian Spit
The Curonian Spit, a UNESCO Natural Site, is a peninsula of sand dunes that runs along the Baltic Sea. To get there, you can take the passenger ferry from the Old Ferry Terminal. There are trails and a huge beach.

Sightseeing:
The port of Klaipeda , today a fishing and manufacturing center, is Lithuania's oldest city (it dates back to the seventh century). Although much of its original architecture has been destroyed through the years, the city has a distinctly Germanic look from its 700 years of Prussian rule. Sights include the Picture Gallery's sculpture collection (we like the statues in the adjacent park best), the History Museum of Lithuania Minor , and the Protestant Church of St. George (on Market Square).
Klaipeda is good for an hour or so sightseeing. Most tourist head for either Nida or Paulanga on an organized tour.

On occasion the Klaipeda Tourist board offer tours to: Palanga, 3 hours, departing at 10.30 am, 20 Euro and to Nida, 4 hours, departing at 11 am, 30 Euro. Tours are in mini busses and sell out quickly.

Nearby Places:
Take the ferry over to the Curonian Spit. Curonian Spit is a 100 kilometer long peninsula made up of sand dunes and beaches.
Ferries run every hour to Smiltyne and only cost a few euro. The ferry docks close to town and run hourly.
Nida . The town is an upmarket holiday resort, hosting about 200,000-300,000 tourists each summer
Palanga . Palanga is a popular seaside resort at the Baltic sea. The town has been recently beautiful renovated and has the best beach in the Baltic's.
Shopping and Food
Shoppers should visit Mantas Street, where the city's most fashionable boutiques are located. Open every day except Sunday.
There are many shopping malls in Klaipeda. The biggest one is called Akropolis and is the biggest shopping mall in the Baltic's. There are many things to do in Akropolis: cinema, ice-ring, restaurants, shops, 2 supermarkets, pizzerias and so on.
Throughout Klaipeda there are numerous sidewalk cafes and restaurants.
There is a delightful craft market. It is about a 10 minute walk along the Dane River at the bridge at Tillu Galve. The Meridian, a restaurant sailing ship, is adjacent to the market area.
Since 2015 the Euro is the currency of choice.

The official language of Lithuania is Lithuanian, making up one of only two languages [along with Latvian] on the Baltic branch of the Indo-European family. Despite the kinship of Lithuanian to many other European languages, the archaic nature of its grammar makes it hard for foreigners unfamiliar with the language even to form basic sentences. Russian is spoken almost universally, whilst the younger generation is also becoming more and more proficient in English.
Many hotels and sidewalk cafes offer free WiFi. The Old Mill Hotel about a 100 meters from the dock has good WifI, although it can get busy with crew members. The Casino Terrace in town also offers good connections.

The distinctly German-style timber-frame buildings that line the cobbled streets of Klaipėda's Old Town hint at its past life as the former capital of Prussia. Controlled on and off by Germany well into the 20th century, the city went by the name Memel until 1945, when it formally adopted the Lithuanian name Klaipėda. Now the country's third-largest metropolis, Klaipėda retains much of its historic and maritime flavor, but there’s also a growing arts scene, with lively exhibition spaces and modern sculptures scattered around the city. The most popular gathering place for locals and visitors is Old Town’s Theatre Square, which features the city’s famed sculpture of a young girl, Taravos Anikė . Nearby, the “Crafts Yard” is home to timber-frame buildings dating from the 18th century; here you can visit various workshops and see how crafts, art and home goods are made. A short ferry ride across a narrow strait takes you to Smiltynė, where you’ll find the Maritime Museum and Aquarium, which hosts Black Sea bottlenose dolphin shows.

- Klaipėda cruise port: what to do
Klaipėda became a regular port for Baltic cruises, albeit not one of the most popular ones. Still, Klaipėda offers a large array of sights in or around it. There are several possible directions you could explore.
If you want to spend your day in Klaipėda sightseeing, here are the best ideas how to use your ~7 free hours in Klaipėda port. Pick one, as you won't have time to do several of them.
2.Spend the day in Smiltynė . Smiltynė is the northernmost tip of the Curonian spit where the ferry from Klaipėda Old Town arrives. After crossing the lagoon by ferry (see above) you should not board any bus, but instead, explore the area on foot. Officially it is part in Klaipėda, though those forested shores seem a world apart. Smiltynė includes Klaipėda's best beaches, some old buildings and the Sea Museum with its dolphinarium (with regular dolphin shows), sea animal zoo and Lithuanian shipping exhibits. You may also watch modern ships coming and going into the Klaipėda port from the breakwater.
3.Explore Klaipėda on foot. Although the city has been ravaged by the Soviets with nearly all of its churches destroyed, the Old Town and 19th-century New Town are still picturesque. The city is unique as it has been developed by two cultures, its population consisting of Lithuanians and Germans for a long time. The key sights include the Theater Square, Castle remains and Tiltų street in the Old Town, as well as Liepų street in the 19th century New Town. More somber sights are the Museum of Lithuania Minor and the Soviet-destroyed Lutheran Cemetery, both testaments to how the Klaipėda of the old was destroyed in the Soviet genocide of the 1940s and repopulated by people from elsewhere. You may also shop at the Akropolis mall.
4.Go to Palanga . Take a walk from the ship to the Klaipėda bus station and take one of the every-15-minutes buses to Palanga, the Lithuania's "summer capital" and primary resort. There, you can visit not only the long sandy (often crowded) beaches, but also the Lithuania's top Amber museum with a collection of amber jewelry, pieces of amber with prehistoric animals/insects, and more. The museum is located in a former Tiškevičius family palace and surrounded by one of the Lithuania's prettiest parks. A walk to the end of the sea bridge is another must to the visitors of its resort, while architecture buffs may search for pretty wooden villas from the 19th-century era when count Tiškevičius has established the resort.
5.Explore the northern seaside of Klaipėda . First, go through the New Town to Klaipėda University. From there, you can take an hourly city bus (number 24) to the northern suburbs. In these suburbs, there are several resorts, such as the historic Giruliai resort which also has the remains of Nazi Germany defensive battery on the beach. The main natural landmark is the Olando Kepurė cliff near the northern end of the bus route.

Important Port Matters
((tnemnianIKlaipeda Cruise Vessel Terminal is located within walking distance from the historical downtown of Klaipeda. Vessels with the length of 315 m and the draft of 9,2 m can be moored here. All services necessary for tourists are proposed in the terminal: taxi, postal service, tourism information, free city maps, free WiFi, currency exchange, ATM, souvenir shops, bars, restaurants, etc.
For even more convenient accessibility (especially for limited mobility guests) a shuttle bus service can be arranged. Personalized greetings and folk performance are held on the Terminal.
In 2027, the 2nd Cruise Terminal (centrally located) will be build in the port. The future terminal will be 369 m long and -11 m. deep. OPS will be installed. The terminal will be constructed in newly rebuild waterfront district with large variety of public entertainments (restaurants, parks, open performance sites, parks, etc.).

Klaipėda is the 3rd largest city of Lithuania, with a population of approx. 120 thousand people. The city’s history goes back as far as 1252, when the Livonian Order constructed the castle of Memel. Today's Klaipėda is known for its unique Fachwerk (Timber-Framed style) old town, neo-gothic architecture, lovely craftsmen‘s courtyards, cobblestone streets. The city also features the famous Drama Theatre and the Theatre Square with gracious sculpture of Ann from Tharau renowned for its vibrant atmosphere: folk performances, craft fairs, and amber markets that are regularly held here. The city offers its visitors a large number of exciting museums such as the largest of that kind in Europe - Lithuanian Maritime Museum. Other unique museums include Klaipėda Castle Museum, Clock & Watch Museum, Blacksmith Museum. Klaipeda is also known for over 100 various kinds of creative sculptures, statues and monuments that make sightseeing in Klaipeda adventurous and inspirational.

The era of cruise shipping in Klaipeda began in 2003, when the Cruise and Naval ship pier was built. The pier covers an area of 1.2 ha and is only 100 meters away from the birthplace of Klaipėda - the Memel or Klaipeda Castle site. Emerald Sakara, Emerald Cruises
Now with two oceangoing vessels joining Emerald’s more established fleet of nine river-dedicated “Star-Ships,” the decade-old cruise line is extending a brand built on unpretentious luxury to more corners of the world. Christened last August , the 100-guest superyacht, Sakara, is a near twin to Azzurra, which in 2022 ushered in a new era for Emerald by taking to the high seas. Sakara, like its sister, delightfully blurs the line between the luxury and ultra-luxury cruise categories, offering attentive service, gourmet cuisine, tasteful decor, and an eclectic slate of activities at a price point friendly to more budgets. The cherry on top with both superyachts is a slew of perks atypical of small-ship sailing, ranging from an impressively comprehensive spa to a marina platform well equipped for more fun in the sun. Despite having so much good stuff, each vessel is remarkably spacious. Getting a sense of being on a private yacht is easy like Sunday morning. Explora I, Explora Journeys
With a showpiece lobby bar, upscale restaurants, and a sultry infinity pool, Explora Journeys' relaxed luxury-resort-at-sea vibe strikes the perfect balance on Explora I. Launched in August 2023, the all-inclusive ship is disarmingly beautiful. A sleek navy blue exterior cocoons 461 suites, all with deep balconies, walk-in closets, and marble bathrooms. There is free-flowing Champagne, 7,500 square feet of wellness space, and 18 drinking and dining venues. From Emporium Marketplace, with its decadent raw bar, to pan-Asian restaurant Sakura, the dining on Explora I is sensational. Marble & Co. Grill is an intimate steakhouse where ageing meats hang in temperature-controlled cabinets. Icon of the Seas, Royal Caribbean International
Aboard the Icon, you can really get lost. The behemoth is just plain big, with a capacity for nearly 8,000 when combining passengers and crew across 20 decks and 250,800 gross tons. Two and a half laps around the ship’s jogging track, a particular highlight onboard, and you’ve run a mile. So one can find themselves in need of a map – forgetting your sunscreen , for example, in your cabin is a bit of a chore depending on how far you’ve made it. But the abundance of things to do is also narcotic, and you feel a bit like a lotus-eater attempting to navigate it all while keeping your head. Amid the relentless entertainment, not to be missed are the top-notch performers present everywhere, from the Olympic-level aquatics show that you can watch from the windows of the speciality seafood restaurant should seating be elusive (it often is) to the cafeteria, where crewmembers dressed as food items sing songs reminding (commanding, actually, which is fabulous) passengers to wash their hands at sinks near the entrance. If you wish to enjoy the largest waterpark at sea, by the way, do what I did not and pack a swimsuit without zippers. From around £1,818 . Charlie Hobbs

MSC Euribia, MSC Cruises
Looking at a row of cruise ships in port, you'll spot MSC Euribia right away. She's covered bow to stern by an ocean-themed mural by German artist Alex Flämig that bears the hashtag #SaveTheSeas nodding to the MSC's dedication to sustainable cruising: the Italian cruise line aims to be net-zero by 2050. MSC Euribia brings it one step closer to that goal, as it's the fleet's greenest ship yet, operating on liquified natural gas (LNG) and running advanced water and waste treatment systems onboard. But enough with the technical details – this mega-ship is packed with activities and entertainment, with 10 restaurants, 21 bars, five pools, two performance venues, and a bevvy of family-friendly amenities, like an F1 simulator, a waterpark, and a bowling alley. More adult-oriented highlights include the MSC Aurea Spa, with a thermal suite outfitted with thalassotherapy pools, a salt cave, and a snow room, as well as the Helios Wine Maker bar for wine tastings. Norwegian Viva, Norwegian Cruise Line
The second entry in Norwegian Cruise Line’s new Prima Class, Viva is like an Irish twin of older sister Prima. There’s the same stateroom count at 1,586, done in pristine and pleasing neutrals, as well as familiarly tricked-out amenities like the zippy 1,400-foot go-kart racing track that undulates over-the-top decks. Importantly, the Ocean Walk, which my colleague Mercedes Bleth adored aboard the Prima, remains. But round two afforded the premier name in large-ship cruising a chance to tweak and perfect, with an influx of seating options both in the ship’s complimentary dining hall as well as on its myriad decks. Across from the signature “zero-waste” Metropolitan Bar, where yummy drinks are whipped up from the ship’s food waste (I particularly enjoy a buttery Croissant Mai-Tai, for which hardening pastries are boiled down into sweetening syrup; the same is done with banana peels) is an interactive piece of digital art 52 feet wide that sees butterflies flit beside passersby. Oceania Vista, Oceania Cruises
Vista, Oceania’s first new ship in more than a decade and the first of its Allura Class, debuted with small but mighty upgrades to its previous ships: better stabilisers for a smoother sailing experience; stronger Wi-Fi; lighting and architecture designed to make the ship’s common spaces look and feel roomier; a resort-like pool deck; and balconies in every cabin. The real star of the show, though, is the food and beverage experience – Vista’s culinary program delivers on its promise of top-quality venues you’ll want to make the rounds at. New to the lineup are Ember, a steakhouse with decor straight out of Napa Valley , and Aquamar Kitchen, serving up lighter fare that doesn’t skimp on taste. Celebrate a birthday, an anniversary, or a just-because occasion with the Cellar Masters Wine Luncheon, a five-course meal and wine pairing. And don’t miss the elaborate sea day brunch, where towers of lobster, crab, and caviar await. Of course, the ship is just one destination. But a big difference can be found on deck 10, where a plunge pool with jets for simulated lap swimming has taken the place of two hot tubs – and there's a new Sky Bar up here. It’s full steam ahead for the cruise ship industry after Royal Caribbean hiked its full-year profit guidance on Thursday, saying it expects 60% growth from last year following record bookings during the first quarter.
Travelers are paying “record ticket prices,” according to Royal Caribbean — despite a recent spate of high-sea deaths and missing passengers reports, including a Florida 20-year-old who jumped off a Royal Caribbean cruise this month.
Soaring demand for vacations at sea has given cruise operators ample room to raise ticket prices as the industry looks to close the pricing gap between more expensive land-based holidays and give their profits a lift.
Royal Caribbean, which operates the Celebrity Cruises, now expects annual profits of between $10.70 and $10.90 per share, compared with its earlier forecast of $9.90 to $10.10.
“Our existing fleet along with our new ships continue to perform exceptionally well, highlighted by the market response to the launch of Icon of the Seas,” CEO Jason Liberty said.
Royal Caribbean’s shares — which have spiked 126% in the past year, were up 2% on Thursday morning, to $139.32.
“I remember owning the stock in 2022 and every client was giving me grief about it,” said Peter Ahluwalia, manager at Belinvest Global Equity Fund that holds Royal Caribbean stocks and chief investment officer at Swiss Partners Group. “We’re turning almost 45% return on equity at the moment, which is quite incredible.”
Overall, the industry which was among the hardest hit during the pandemic, is expected to grow to 39.4 million passengers in 2027 from 31.7 million last year, according to Statista.
The surge in demand comes amid major publicity blows from incidents at sea involving passengers who have gone missing, including the Florida man who jumped overboard on April 4 in front of his brother and father after a night of drinking.
Last December, a 41-year-old Royal Caribbean passenger went overboard on a cruise to the Bahamas. That followed an incident last August involving a 64 year-old woman sailing from Singapore to Malaysia on Royal Caribbean who is presumed to have jumped to her death .
On average, 19 people go overboard on cruise ships every year — and of those, only about four are rescued, according to a 2020 study commissioned by the industry trade group Cruise Lines International Association.

I work from a cruise ship for 3 months a year. Here's how I stay productive at sea.

This as-told-to essay is based on a conversation with Walter Biscardi, a 59-year-old travel agent based in Orlando. The following has been edited for length and clarity.
I used to work in film, television, documentary, and marketing, and I ran two creative agencies in Atlanta for 25 years.
A few years ago, my wife and I turned my second passion, travel, into " Where's Walter Travel ." We specialize in travel planning services for cruises , group vacations, theme park tours, and company retreats.
We live in an Orlando rental, but I run the travel-planning business from a cruise ship for three months out of the year.
We started taking advantage of our remote working situation after the pandemic
In a few short years of working on cruise ships, I've noticed that more and more people are starting to do the same thing.
We predominantly cruise the Caribbean. Last year, our three months were spread over six different trips on the Royal Caribbean , Oceania , Virgin Voyages , and Carnival cruise lines. If it were up to me, I'd be at sea for six months a year, but my wife prefers three.
This year, we'll be back on Virgin Voyages in June and on the Sun Princess in October. We're planning a few more, too.
WiFi speed and reliability onboard ships have been game-changers
I don't always look for speed but rather consistency and reliability.
Even though the WiFi is reliable on most ships , it's still not perfect, and you need to manage your expectations. The WiFi on ships is satellite-based, so the signal will be slower if there's a lot of cloud cover. Rain may also temporarily cut it out completely.
The WiFi signal in rooms can be weak. When I get on board, I walk around public places, look at the ceiling, and find the repeaters , which amplify the router's signal . I park myself under a repeater to work, so at least I know I'm getting the fastest signal.
Video calls can be dicey, but voice calls over WiFi work well
Most of my work is using emails, social media apps, and a web browser, so I don't tend to have problems. The upload speed is the most difficult thing about working on a cruise ship.

Working from a cruise ship might not be for you if you're required to upload a video to YouTube or be on video for 100% of your Zoom calls. Zoom with video turned off works well. I post TikToks all day, but uploading to YouTube will fail almost every time.
Turn off your cell service on the ship, even if you have unlimited roaming overseas. Phones use satellite maritime cellular, and it's ridiculously expensive. I've heard of people who have come home with $1,000 cellular bills because they didn't turn off their roaming.
I can typically make most of my calls over WiFi, but you won't be able to on some ships. Texting from ship to land usually works well if you're using the same type of phone as the person you're messaging, but when you're texting cross-platform, sometimes it doesn't work.
Finding power outlets can be challenging
Typically, if you need to put in a full day of work connected to power, you need to stay in your room. One tip to finding power when you're looking around public areas is to see where they plug in the vacuum cleaners.
I strongly recommend bringing a powerboard with multiple USB sockets. I have one with 10 USB connections, so I can charge my phone, GoPro, and other devices simultaneously.
Virgin Voyages ships are the most friendly for remote workers
The galley on a Virgin Voyages ship is set up like a coffee shop, with easily accessible power and USB sockets at the table. There are dozens of outlets, as they're inviting people to bring their laptops and work from the ship.
I usually upgrade to the premium WiFi option, which can cost anywhere from $19 to $39 per day on most lines, but Virgin only charges $10 per day to upgrade.
I work in an office at home, so working on a cruise is a big change
I operate at sea as I do on land, with the same office hours available to my clients other than when I know we're going on an excursion.
Cruise ships are comparable to remote working spaces, but they offer so much more. On a cruise, almost everything is included: breakfast, lunch, dinner, coffee, entertainment, and most amenities.
If I want to take a break from work, I go to the pool. When I finish for the day, I'll go to the theater to see a show.
Meeting places are usually free on a cruise ship. Generally, all you have to do is reserve a conference room. AV facilities are usually included too, although you may have to pay a setup fee.
Remember to be respectful — many people are on board for a vacation. I've been out by the pool and seen people taking business calls on speakerphone, which is ridiculously annoying.
I suggest picking at least one port on every cruise and make it a 'ship day'
About 75% of people will get off the ship at any port, so staying on board feels like you have the whole place to yourself.
Activities like the pools will still be open, and the spas will often discount their services by 20-40% on port days.
Of course, I still recommend getting off and exploring as much as possible — that's what cruises are for.

Sakara, like its sister, delightfully blurs the line between the luxury and ultra-luxury cruise categories, offering attentive service, gourmet cuisine, tasteful decor, and an eclectic slate of activities at a price point friendly to more budgets. Aboard the Icon, you can really get lost. The behemoth is just plain big, with capacity for nearly 8,000 when combining passengers and crew across 20 decks and 250,800 gross tons. Two and a half laps around the ship’s jogging track, a particular highlight onboard, and you’ve run a mile. So one can find themselves in need of a map—forgetting your sunscreen, for example, in your cabin is a bit of a chore depending on how far you’ve made it. But the abundance of things to do is also narcotic, and you feel a bit like a lotus-eater attempting to navigate it all while keeping your head. Amid the relentless entertainment, not to be missed are the top-notch performers present everywhere, from the Olympic-level aquatics show that you can watch from the windows of the specialty seafood restaurant should seating be elusive (it often is) to the cafeteria, where crew members dressed as food items sing songs reminding (commanding, actually, which is fabulous) passengers to wash their hands at sinks near the entrance. If you wish to enjoy the largest waterpark at sea, by the way, do what I did not and pack a swimsuit without zippers. From $2,249. —Charlie Hobbs

MSC Euribia — MSC Cruises Arrow
Looking at a row of cruise ships in port, you'll spot MSC Euribia right away. She's covered bow to stern by an ocean-themed mural by German artist Alex Flämig that bears the hashtag #SaveTheSeas nodding to the MSC's dedication to sustainable cruising: the European cruise line aims to be net-zero by 2050. MSC Euribia brings it one step closer to that goal, as it's the fleet's greenest ship yet, operating on liquified natural gas (LNG) and running advanced water and waste treatment systems onboard. But enough with the technical details—this mega-ship is packed with activities and entertainment, with 10 restaurants, 21 bars, five pools, two performance venues, and a bevy of family-friendly amenities, like an F1 simulator, a waterpark, and a bowling alley. More adult-oriented highlights include the MSC Aurea Spa, with a thermal suite outfitted with thalassotherapy pools, a salt cave, and a snow room, as well as the Helios Wine Maker bar for wine tastings. Across from the signature “zero-waste” Metropolitan Bar, where yummy drinks are whipped up from the ship’s food waste (I particularly enjoy a buttery Croissant Mai-Tai, for which hardening pastries are boiled down into sweetening syrup; the same is done with banana peels) is an interactive piece of digital art 52 feet wide that sees butterflies flit beside passersby. Princess Cruises' Star Princess ship delayed, 9 sailings canceled
Travelers will have to wait longer than planned to sail on Princess Cruises’ upcoming ship.
The delivery of Star Princess, which was set to debut next summer, will be pushed back by about two months. The cruise line said the delay was a “mutual” decision with shipbuilder Fincantieri.
“Following a comprehensive review of the remaining construction milestones, both parties have elected to adjust the ship's delivery date from July 29, 2025 to September 26, 2025, which will result in the cancellation of the nine inaugural sailings,” Princess said in a news release .
Guests whose cruises are impacted will be able to rebook on any Princess ship and, depending on which sailing they pick, receive future cruise and onboard credits. They will also be able to opt for a full refund of their fare instead.
“Despite our collective dedication and relentless pursuit to deliver the ship in late July, it has become evident that additional time is required to ensure the Star Princess is delivered to the highest standards expected by our guests,” Princess Cruises President John Padgett said in the release.

The ship’s new inaugural itineraries will include 11 and seven-day Mediterranean cruises on Oct. 4 and 15, 2025, respectively. Those will be followed by a two-week transatlantic voyage to Fort Lauderdale, Florida on Oct. 22, 2025.
Those sailings will be available to book on April 30.
Star Princess will be the second in the line’s Sphere Class. Sister ship Sun Princess was also delayed ahead of its launch earlier this year, with Princess citing “additional technical work” needed at the shipyard.
