Most will off an option to go directly to camp without the dune bashing. It's quite a standard option (bad backs or necks, pregnancy, bad motion sickness etc). I would message a few and see what they suggest. I know Destination Insight can arrange it. I would try emailing Mary first.

Looking at this fir my Wife and I , my children’s did a similar trip last year with the Dune bashing , etc etc

I’m waiting for a hip operation so need to take it easy so me and the wife want to to do the same trip as yourselves. Looking for recommendations.

If you have deep pockets then you could look at dinner at Sonara - also no dune bashing.

Personally though I’d be wary of any desert safaris if you’re waiting for surgery. Even the most gentle ones will have some natural movement over the sand.

You could maybe go to dinner somewhere like Bab al Shams. There’s a proper road in & out, it’s within easy taxi ride from Dubai but you still feel like you’re in the desert.

The dune bashing is a standard part of the 'normal tourist safari'

If you don't want dune bashing the company will normally take you out to the dunes for photos and drop you at the camp first.

300 aed should get you a good experience.

I planned a safari without dune bashing due to an injury I had and they were happy to oblige. (I the end the driver was great and I trusted him to do the dune bashing at a suitable level for me to cope with so we did it anyway).

Try Platinum Heritage, great company

srchandra: parts of the Al Awair area around Fossil Rock is about to be turned into a conservation area I understand (judging by the fencing that was being installed by the new road when I was out there last and the chats I have had with various tour companies).

The current Conservation Area itself has limited use and access and no dune bashing is allowed inside (drivers must keep to a set path through the dunes). Normally, the dune bashing is done outside the area (if requested) and then the meal takes place inside.

Unfortunately, as most of the desert close to the city is used by the lower end safari's and local drivers who dont seem to care too much - littering is a real problem. Lots of camels that wander around are injured because of the rubbish they eat from people discarded stuff. Why people cant take it home with them (rubbish) is beyond me. They are spoiling the area that they like to use. It seems to be a real problem.

Leave only footprints, take only photos!

The group he is going with on the dune safari and dinner will be arriving in Dubai and getting off the ship the next day (that's when we will be getting on the ship).

Not sure about the layout of the pier area in Dubai and if visitors can enter the area. If he can't enter the pier area would there be a spot where he could meet up with the tour group near there?

Desert Safari without dune bashing!

My parents & my 12 yr old brother, visited Dubai in Jan'12. They wanted to go for desert safari minus the adventure of dune bashing / 4 WD desert driving. Hence after quite a lot of searching, i bumped across Funtours. They offer great desert safaris at very competitive prices & the one without dune bashing is quite cheaper. The booking process was quite simply calling to enquire, mailing them with details & getting a confirmed booking without even paying a single penny. All through we received great customer service from a well informed, polite & accommodating staff. Although the start time of the tour was delayed by 30-40 mins, it was made up by great service from the friendly driver, very nice desert camp with lots of activities & variety of vegetarian food options. Overall it was a very easy going, comfortable & fun evening. I would highly recommend using this tour company with confidence of getting good service, enjoyment & value for money.

Funtours pickup us at 2:45 PM from Deira City Centre(Driver was very punctual).....then we directly went to Desert....first our safari start with Dune bashing this is the most fun part of the tour...Recommended to go empty stomach.....we were the first to reach the camp...our funtours guide advice us to do camel riding & henna painting at the earliest as it will be long que afterwards as it was Friday....Then we had pic with falcon(At extra cost)....After that we took our pic in the local costume.....everything mentioned in the tour package was there & well organised....Arabic Tea,falafil, Arabic Sweets, Shisha, Soft Drinks, Tanoura Dancing,belly Dance & BBQ Dinner(Dinner was yummy & tasty)......Me & my wife had lot of fun with Funtours....will recommend everyone to book your tours in Dubai with Funtours only as they are very well organised....and last staff of Funtours was very polite and helpful.

We booked this tour with Funtours because the one we had originally chosen was already fully booked. It was a total disappointment. It started with the fact that the company refused to pick us up at the hotel and made us instead travel to the Emirates Mall, which was fairly far away from our hotel. Then it took forever until we started the tour in a really old bus. The driver got lost several times on the way to the jeeps and then stopped at an overcrowded gasstation for more than 30 minutes. When we finally arrived at the starting point for the Dunetour, the sun was already setting. Yet since we were then rushed to the jeeps we were not able to enjoy this really exciting sight. And the driver was really unfriendly. After that we were driven to the camp. There was no time at all to take a breath, everything happened in a total hurry. The people from Funtours said that we were only allowed to eat at the Funtours-Table, yet we could not find that mysterious table because there were no signs and no representatives of the company to help. So everybody just kept running around the camp to find a place to sit, until finally after more than an hour, a Funtours-representative showed up and showed us the table. The staff at the camp was also very unfriendly. For example, at the Buffet, which was divided into three lines for men and one for women, the staff at the women´s line (where I was standing) kept saying stupid things such as "Move move faster, you don´t have your husbands now to help you decide" and so on and so forth. The food was bad (only the shashlik was good). The camp itself is not operated by Funtours, therefore there were roundabout 1000 people from different tours. It was totally crowded, the music came from loudspeakers. On the way back the driver again let us wait for more than half an hour, even though one couple had to catch their flight back home. Noone at Funtours seemed to be interested in anything concerning the guests. I never experienced anything that was so organized so much without any passion for the needs and concerns for the guests like this. This, by the way, was also the opinion of the other people we spoke to at the camp and who had booked with Funtours.

Very sorry to read your complaint about Funtours. I will firstly say that we have safaris by car that will pick you up from anywhere, however when the cars are full, the only choices left are to make your own way to either Deira City Centre or Mall of the Emirates at a much reduced rate. As for your other comments I would be obliged if you would e mail us, so that a thorough investigation of your complaint may be take place.

what i can say about funtours they are very accommodating, from checking in all their crews is smiling and greet us a warm welcome. when we arrived at the locations every staff is always assuring us if we have a good time and always offering us everything even when its time to fall in line to eat dinner buffet our group is the first one to get there even our place is a bit far from the buffet area they are very concern to their customers and that makes our day more enjoy and relaxing. for those who did not try desert safari its a-must but to make your experience more unforgettable and worthy choose Funtours they provide good services

Most importantly Fun Tours 1st priority is safely. The drivers really know their stuff which makes for a fantastic trip out, there is something for everyone. Good clean camp including proper toilet facilities. There is a dance show with Egyptian dancers and their twirling skirts. ........ Good food too!!

On Facebook Competition I won Desert Safari for two From Dubai Funtours. I was so excited about because in Nov Dubai weather got just perfect for outdoor activities. Me And my Hubby plan to enjoy desert safari on Saturday.Following the instructions of Dubai funtours representative wee reached at DCC at 3:30pm the driver was ready with brand new 4x4.(i am mentioning this because last year i also experience the safari but that tour company has very old cars, the AC was not working in the car the handles and seats were in bad condition).The driver first made his way to desert for dune bashing it was fun great fun,driver was so good in his work we all had great fun then he take us to camel farm as well. After one hour of safari in Desert they took us to desert camp around 5 pm. The camp was huge we were welcome there by coffee, tea ,soft drinks and shawarma with live Dj.In the camp there were certain activiteies like camel ride,quade biking,heena painting & Sheesha Photographer facility was also available, its cool option for those who want to enjoy tour without the Hassle of making snaps.There were stalls of different things like Irani carpets, accessories children toys etc.The one think i like most is that Funtours also have play area for kids. My daughter enjoy there a lot it was fully packed family entertainment.when sun goes down the shows get started the one thing i want to mention again that usually safari have one belly dance show but in this tour i was surprised to see that there were not only 1,2 but there were 6 shows. 3 cultural dance show,2belly dance,1 puppet dance show On the whole the tour was fabulous the dinner was good the shows were great and the organizer and the staff was so friendly they were treating each and every guest like VIP.There were restrooms for both men and women and very much well maintained & Hygienic.Around 8:45 we were taken back to home. I strongly recommend every one to enjoy Desert Safari with FunTours.

We offer a few desert tours without dinner. Each tour is unique in its way. 

1. Dune Bashing Dubai

The evening dune bashing tour is one of the most selling tours. This tour comes without a dinner option. Our safari captain will pick you up from your location around 3:00 PM. He takes you directly to the Dubai desert, where you can enjoy the thrilling dune-bashing ride. The dune bashing is around 45 minutes at the red dunes of Dubai. After the off-road ride, he will take you to the desert camp. Our staff at desert camp will welcome you with dates and a traditional drink called Ghawa.

At the desert camp, you also get a chance to enjoy the camel ride. Camel ride during this tour is around 10 minutes. Quad bikes and dune buggies are also available outside our desert camp. Both of them are self-driven and with auto transmission. You can avail of these off-road vehicles by paying extra. The price depends on the model of quad bikes & dune buggies. After that, take pictures with falcon and enjoy the sunset in the middle of the desert.

Once free from all the activities, it’s time for the belly dancer to perform. Enjoy that live show. This will be the end of your tour. Our driver will drive you back to your location.

Our safari captain will pick you up from your location around 3:00 PM. He directly takes you to the desert, drive time from downtown Dubai to the red dunes of Dubai is around 45 minutes. Once you reach the desert, the dune buggy guide will guide you on how to run this beautiful beast. He will provide you with safety equipment and demonstrate about dune buggy in detail. You are going to enjoy the  dune buggy Dubai ride  for 1 hour. After that, we will serve you snacks. In this tour,  camel rides in the desert  and sandboarding are complementary. Once free from all the desert activities, our safari captain will drop you back at your location.

Evening safari tour includes.

The most economical desert tour without dinner is to skip the dinner part. The itinerary of this tour is the same as the evening desert safari, but you can only skip dinner and enjoy all other desert activities. On this tour, you get a chance to ride a camel in the Dubai desert, do quad biking, and enjoy henna tattoos. Enjoy two belly dance shows in the evening, a tanoura dance & fire show. Pick will be at 3:00 PM, and drop-off is around 8:30 PM.

If you are vegetarian or Jain vegetarian, don’t need to worry and don’t miss the desert dinner & excellent performances of our artists. We have arrangements & delicious meal for you also.
