The Best of Eastern Europe
The entire experience was smooth starting from the initial selection and pre-travel preparation. Anytime I had a question, Tourradar was available to assist. I enjoyed my travels and would highly recommend Tourradar.

The Great Adventure
Israel was an amazing guide. My only critique would be how I was shuffled into other tours but with different timetables
Best of Central Europe
The Central Europe tour I was on with my daughter went beyond my expectations. I was nervous about having all that free time in new places but Eliza our amazing tour guide, gave us the best orientations and knowledge of all the places we visited. Sharing her local knowledge and her mastery of all the languages to help us fully experience and enjoy the countries we were in, made it perfect. The group size was good and she looked after us at every turn, especially on busy train stations and on arrival at new places. She helped us experience the local culture and food in each location, so we had highlights all through the tour. Highly recommend
European Delight
We have multiple tour guides. All are very friendly and accommodating towards everyone's need.I am overall satisfied with the services that I received.I believe it could be much better if a seperate tour was arranged for big Indian group.I understand their limitations. But as a traveller i missed some of my opportunities to make my tour more enjoyable and exciting. There should be age limit also. And I would like to know about my fellow travellers prior to my tour.
Rome to Berlin: Piazzas, Prague & the Past
Great diversity of countries and cities but WAY too fast paced. One night in Slovenia and Poland was ridiculous and with travel time some days we spent less than 15 hours in the city. The guide was a but inexperienced so we didn't have a good description of some of the cities. Great way to make friends and see cities! Would recommend going end of August or later as it was still very hot going through the cities!!

- River Cruise
Romantic Rhine (Southbound) 2024
It was a great cruise. The food was amazing, the crew was really helpful, and the tours and tour guides were great. The only thing to imporve on if the WiFi which only worked half the time.
Britain and Ireland Delight (Summer, 8 Days)
We had a very lovely experience.
What people love about Europe Tours
Great experience. Very fun.
The tour was awesome. Too bad it was short. Our Tour leader Noddy perform extremely well job organizing and controlling our big group so we was on time everywhere. Our driver Dennis professionalism is off the charts. Especially when we was driving through narrow streets of Italy. I would recommend this tour to others
Very good tour , something’s we didn’t find out right until the moment. But, overall good tour.

A European vacation is a trip many of us dream about. Art, history, culture, architecture, food — there’s something for everyone in Europe. As you can imagine, that all comes with a hefty price tag.
While a trip to Europe can be expensive, there are ways to save money . One of those ways is to purchase a vacation package. When you purchase a package consisting of flights and hotels (and even rail tickets, in the case of Europe) there’s a good chance you’ll save money. While it’s not a guarantee, we’ve found the prices of packages are usually less expensive than purchasing flights and hotels separately.
Since there are lots of places to purchase vacation packages, we wanted to narrow it down for you. These 9 websites all offer European vacation packages and will be a great starting point for planning your vacation.
Eurailing Packages is a little different than the rest of our featured websites because instead of a traditional hotel and airfare package, it offers packages that bundle accommodations and train tickets . This will be handy for vacation packages within Europe, but not necessarily for getting to Europe.
Since train travel is very popular in Europe, we thought this was a great option to include in this list. You can choose from the site’s predesigned packages and current deals, or you can build your custom accommodation and rail package.
Something thing to keep in mind when using this website is that the price includes a hostel, not a hotel . You’ll have the option to pay extra for a hotel when you’re finalizing the details of your trip but you won’t know the specific hotel or room type until after your booking is complete.
Hot Tip: Use points and miles to fly to Europe when your vacation package only includes accommodations and rail tickets.
Grand European Travel might be a good place to search for a European vacation package if you’d like the planning done for you. This website offers lots of predesigned trips but doesn’t have the option to make your own. For someone who doesn’t want to do the legwork of planning a trip, that could be a welcome benefit.
If you decide to book a vacation package through Grand European Travel, keep in mind that solo travelers will default to a shared room. If you’d rather have private accommodations, you can select that during the checkout process for an additional charge.
Another nice thing about booking through Grand European Tours is that in addition to only needing to pay a deposit to reserve your trip, you can get a full refund if you need to cancel within 30 days . You can also change your departure date or destination free of charge until 60 days before your trip.
Costco Travel is another great site that can help you find the perfect European vacation. You can choose a curated package or design your own.
While you have to be a Costco member to purchase Costco Travel, you can search for a package without a membership. Often, packages purchased through Costco Travel will come with a Costco Shop Card or extra perks which can more than make up for the price of the membership. Plus, Executive members earn 2% back on purchases, including those from Costco Travel.
If you’re an Executive Member, be sure to keep an eye out for extra perks on your vacation package. These can often make up for the additional cost of an Executive Membership.
Take a look at some of the member benefits we found on a London and Paris vacation package:
- $400 London tour credit
- Daily breakfast
- £35 food and beverage credit at the London hotel (Executive Members)
- Fruit basket and chocolates at the Paris hotel (Executive Members)
Bottom Line: You have to be a Costco member to purchase a vacation package from Costco Travel, but you can check prices without being a member. Often, a package will come with perks or even a Costco Shop Card that can more than make up for the cost of a membership. For more information, check out our guide to using Costco Travel .
Booking a European trip through Delta Vacations can be a great way to earn lots of Delta SkyMiles .
You’ll also want to keep an eye out for deals that will award you extra bonus points. At the time of writing, you could get up to a $400 Delta gift card or up to 75,000 Delta SkyMiles for booking a flight and hotel package .
You can earn an additional 2 to 3 SkyMiles per $1 spent when you use a Delta co-branded credit card , too.
If you’d rather use Delta SkyMiles to pay for your vacation package, you can do that, too. You can pay for all or part of your vacation with your miles at 1 cent each in value . That’s just about what we value Delta SkyMiles at, so this can represent a good use of miles.
Bottom Line: You can either earn or use SkyMiles for a vacation package purchased through Delta Vacations.
Expedia is a tried-and-true website for booking travel because it’s easy to use and often has great deals. Your European vacation package can be customized to include flights, a hotel, and even a rental car.
The map feature is a great tool for finding a hotel in the perfect location , and there are lots of filtering options that will help narrow your search results even more.
Expedia participates in the One Key rewards program which allows you to earn and use points on eligible trips and access special member pricing . This is a good way to earn rewards when you don’t participate in a hotel chain’s loyalty program or are booking a hotel that doesn’t have its own loyalty program.
For more information including how to use the One Key program, check out our guide to using Expedia to find great deals on travel .
Hot Tip: If you choose a hotel that has its own loyalty program (Hyatt, Marriott, Hilton, etc.) you won’t earn hotel points when you book through a third-party website, nor will your elite status be recognized. If hotel points and elite status are important to you, you may want to consider booking direct.
Kayak is a great tool for finding hotels, flights, and vacation packages. It’s a metasearch engine so the prices you’ll see will be from other websites most of the time (though you can occasionally book directly through Kayak). It’s a great way to compare prices from lots of other sites at the same time.
You can use the handy map feature to search for hotels by location or use the filtering options to find a hotel that offers a perk that’s important to you like free breakfast or free parking. There are also options to choose any property type — from apartments to hostels to resorts and everything in between.
Hot Tip: For more information, check out our guide to booking travel with Kayak .
United Vacations is a great website to use to search for European vacation packages, especially if you like flying United or live near a United hub that will have lots of flight options.
It can also be a great option for anyone who wants to earn more United MileagePlus miles — you’ll earn them on your vacation package if you provide your membership number at booking. Unfortunately, you can’t redeem United miles for your trip.
This site has many of the sorting and filtering options you’d find on other sites, and you can even add extras like trip insurance or airport transfers to your package.
Bottom Line: You’ll earn United MileagePlus miles when you book a package through United Vacations, but you can’t redeem miles for any part of your trip. Instead, check out these ideas when you’re ready to spend your miles.
CheapTickets is a popular online travel agency for hotels, flights, rental cars, and vacation packages. It’s owned by Expedia so it has the same functionality as that site, but it often has different pricing, so it’s worth checking them both out.
During the booking process, you’ll be able to add extras like airport transportation, a rental car, activities, and trip insurance .
Hot Tip: Before you add trip protection from an online travel agency like CheapTickets, be sure to read up on the policy for your credit card with travel insurance so you don’t end up buying something you may already have. You might also want to price out a policy with a few travel insurance companies to compare plans and prices before you book your trip.
Booking a European vacation package through Priceline is a straightforward and easy process. You can search for any combination of flights, hotels, and cars under the Bundle + Save search tab on the home page. The search results will quickly give you hotel information including the price and how much you can expect to save on the package.
Priceline has its own loyalty program called Priceline VIP that offers discounts, a best rate guarantee, and Express Deal coupons. While these perks are available as soon as you join, the discounts get bigger and better as you reach new status tiers within the program.
Hotel savings start at 10% for all members and go up to 50% on over 45,000 hotels for top-tier VIP Platinum members . Additionally, those with VIP Member or VIP Blue status will get a 5% Express Deal coupon after every trip, VIP Gold members get an 8% Express Deal coupon after every trip, and VIP Platinum members get a 10% Express Deal coupon after every trip.
Hot Tip: Make sure you’re earning lots of points by using a credit card that’s great for purchasing vacation packages .
Now let’s get to the important part — price comparisons. Since it’s hard to compare prices head-to-head for custom packages and ones that include rail tickets, we’ll only be looking at the sites where you can design your own.
Package #1: 6 nights in Paris at Sofitel Arc de Triomphe plus round-trip airfare from Atlanta (ATL) for 2 adults.
Package #2: 6 nights in London at St. Ermin’s Hotel, Autograph Collection plus round-trip airfare from Dallas-Ft. Worth (DFW) for 2 adults.
*Includes daily continental breakfast, airport transfers, and a guaranteed room upgrade.
For the first example, Expedia has the lowest price by far and the package even includes breakfast! Costco Travel was the most expensive. In the second example, Kayak and Priceline were the lowest-priced options with United Vacations coming in as the most expensive.
As you can see, there’s not a single website that always has the best prices, so it’s always a good idea to price out your vacation package on a few different websites to see where you can get the best deal.
Booking a vacation package for your trip to Europe can be a great way to save some money on a hotel, flights, and even train tickets. Since no single website will always have the best prices, it’s a good idea to price out your trip in a few different places to make sure you’re getting the best deal.

How do i plan an affordable european vacation.
There are a few things you can do to keep costs down on your European vacation. First, focus on budget hotels since the prices for luxury accommodations can add up quickly. You can also focus on hotels you can book with points. Consider getting a rail pass or inexpensive economy flights to get around to different countries within Europe. To fly to Europe, you can book your flights with airline miles, or look for a vacation package that includes flights and hotels to keep your costs low.
Where can I find multi-country European vacation packages?
Many websites let you put together a European vacation package that includes stops in multiple countries. Check out Eurailing Packages, Grand European Travel, or Costco Travel for multi-country itineraries.
Where can I find the best Europe tour packages?
There are many websites that offer different options so you can customize a package that fits your needs. Try Eurailing Packages for packages that include rail tickets or Grand European Travel for multi-country itineraries. Expedia, Priceline, and Kayak are all good sites to find cheap European vacation packages.
Are vacation packages actually cheaper?
While vacation packages aren’t cheaper 100% of the time, they usually offer a savings over booking a hotel stay and airfare separately. That being said, you should always price out everything separately and as a package to ensure you’re getting a good deal.

By booking packages, you can ensure that your itinerary includes your destination's major sights and experiences. Packages are also a great way to cut the cost of visiting Europe. When should you book a vacation package to Europe?
Booking European packages is an excellent way to save money and make travel easy, and you can make even bigger savings by traveling at the right time of year.

Ideal for a romantic break in laid-back Amsterdam, the Rembrandt Square Hotel is right at the city's heart - and next to the spectacular flower market. A taxi from Schiphol Airport takes just 14 minutes.
For luxury vacations in Europe:
London's Ritz Hotel is like a synonym for luxury. Situated on Piccadilly, it offers delicious Indian and Lebanese food, stunning furnishings and couldn't be more convenient for seeing the sights. It's also almost directly connected to Heathrow Airport via the London Tube.
Lisbon's Four Seasons Ritz Hotel is another great choice for a luxury getaway in Europe, with its Louis XVI style design, artworks in every room and relaxing urban gardens. It's just 20 minutes by car from Lisbon Airport.
For budget vacations in Europe:
A great base for exploring Germany's capital, the A&O Berlin Kolumbus is tucked away from the action but only 15 minutes from Alexanderplatz, the city's hub. This means that getting there from the airport is also quick and easy.
Copenhagen's City Hotel Nebo ticks all the boxes for budget breaks in Denmark. It has a central location and is an easy walk away from the capital's galleries and family attractions like Copenhagen Zoo. And it's just 12 minutes away from the airport by train.

16 Best Travel Websites and Tools for Europe 2024 (Planning and Booking)
There are a lot of fantastic travel websites for traveling to Europe. Besides our own little resource, we think you should know about the following websites we actually use ourselves.
This is a site you want to bookmark. Here are all the best sites for travel planning 2024.
These apps and tools will help you find tickets, transportation, rent a car, and all of that sort of nature. Basically, this here is your Swiss-knife of the best websites to travel to Europe.
Top Websites to travel to Europe in 2024
We organized this guide by topic, and the websites in no particular order. Every single one we mentioned is used by us too.
On the menu:
- Get Your Guide
- Discover Cars
- Planning your route
Booking.com
- Airbnb and better Alternatives
Hostelworld
Hostelz.com.
- Google Flights
- Airalo eSim Card
Under One Week in Europe , we share all the destinations we cover and more generic articles as well. We also included a full map with all European cities and countries we cover.
1. Sightseeing Tickets and Tours
There are three websites we highly recommend for getting your sightseeing tickets and tours.
Get Your Guide and Tiqets.com are ticket suppliers. Here you will find all your tickets for the Colosseum in Rome, Sagrada Família in Barcelona, Eiffel Tower in Paris and so on.
Compare both websites. Prices can differ, it depends on the sight really. Here is my review about Get Your Guide .
The Best Tours in Europe
Walks of Italy or Take Walks (it is the same company!) is a small walking tour company offering high-quality walking tours with exceptional guides.
I know, this sounds a bit over the top, maybe?! Yet it is true. We joined their tours in Florence, Venice, Rome, and Athens so far. All their groups are small and they even run some exclusive VIP tours. No kidding! You can enter the Sistine Chapel after hours or get some skip-the-line-tickets for special sights like the Colosseum in Rome.
We absolutely loved it every single time! Here is my review of Take Walks with more details.
2. Car Rental in Europe
Car Rental : Discover Cars
Planning to rent a car in Europe? There are so many options and websites out there. We always start our research at Discover Cars.
It compares all car rental companies and even offers car insurance. This saves you a lot of money as it is much cheaper with them. Read our complete guide and review on Discover Car Hire .
Planning your route : Viamichelin.com
The absolute best website to plan your route and the costs of that trip. It is a very easy website to use. Just add your origin and destination. Via Michelin runs a few routes and gives you the best options.
My favorite part is the calculation of costs, including gas and tolls. Especially in countries like France and Italy, the tolls can up a lot. In countries like Spain, it is often not necessary to take the toll-road, since there is a national street nearby.
3. Travel Insurance
Do you need travel insurance? In case your own health insurance does not cover travel, we really recommend getting one. Please check if you already have your own insurance, though. No need to have 2-3-4 different ones.
Also, very important: make sure your travel insurance covers:
- the countries you will be visiting
- activities you plan to do
- covers other basics you require
The two go-to websites we used both in the past:
Find here a complete review of Safetywing . It is also important to compare Safetywing to HeyMondo. Maybe some of them fits much better for your own needs.
Here is a detailed review of HeyMondo Travel Insurance .
4. Accommodation
- Airbnb.com and better Alternatives to Airbnb
These are my best websites for accommodation in Europe. As a very first step, we recommend checking our Europe itineraries.
We also share our best tips on where to stay in several, major European destinations. These guides are for instance:
- Where to stay in Paris
- Guide to where to stay in Florence
- Places to stay in Vienna
- best places to stay in Venice, Italy
- where to stay in Edinburgh
- Where to stay in Istanbul
- Where to stay in Barcelona
Booking.com usually lists every single type of accommodation from the North to the South. Not sure how booking.com work? Read this review of Booking.com
Vrbo is another home-sharing and rental platform. It is a big competitor of Airbnb, yet not as known.
Here you can find our review of Vrbo .
The prices are competitive, and it has a stronger focus on more unique accommodation near beaches and such. For Europe, Vrbo is a good alternative. Sign up, it is free.
Airbnb (yes, but…!)
On the other hand, Airbnb is obviously famous for its apartments. However, I urge you to check for apartments in Europe with a proper tourist license . There have been cases you people have thrown out of the apartment by police as the host had no actual tourism license.
Furthermore, in many touristic places, Airbnb is not very popular among locals. Personally, we stopped using Airbnb due to the abuse of local markets. It just does not sit right with us (anymore!)
Guide to Alternatives to Airbnb
We wrote up a big, detailed guide on Airbnb competitors and alternative websites you can use. There is many interesting websites you may have never heard of. The range goes from high-end luxury to free stays and camping.
For traveling on a smaller budget, I use Hostelworld .
Here you can find all the hostels in Europe. Some hostels are really low-quality, while others can be surprisingly cool. For backpackers and solo-travelers, Hostelworld is a cool app and website to use.
Last but not the least comes in Hostelz.com .
This website is actually a budget traveler’s best friend. It lists every single hostel in the world, and it compares its prices through Booking.com and Hostelworld.com
You can end up saving 25% less on your accommodation in Europe. Imagine that. Therefore, add Hostelz.com to your favorite travel sites. It is an easy money saver!
- Flights Google
Finding flights can be a big task. When traveling in Europe, I always check these websites. I listed them above.
When taking a flight in Europe, make sure you check the luggage restrictions in size and weight. Especially low-budget airlines charge extra for oversized and overweight luggage.
6. Public Transports (Trains and buses)
My best website for trains in Europe is Omio.com.
You can check train schedules and buses. It is sooooo so easy to use. Love it! The website is relatively new and so powerful. Also, you can buy your train and bus tickets with Omio.com directly as well.
Not a public transport, but a private bus company connecting cities in Europe is Flixbus . It is a great way to travel Europe cheap. Bear in mind, bus trips can be long. Personally, I prefer taking the train.
Read : Flixbus in a review —is it reliable?
7. Other: Visa and Internet
For Visa, we have one trusted source.
1. Sort out your Visa with iVisa.com
Before traveling to Europe, make sure you have the correct visa. Make sure you check the right country and if it is part of the Schengen Area. The UK, for instance, is not part of the Schengen area and requires a different visa than Spain.
We love to use iVisa.com for checking out our visa situation. Just add your citizenship and the country you want to visit. It will give you all options for the visa. It even tells you if you need a visa at all.
Important : Some countries require a valid proof of onward travel. You can use onward ticket as a service here. Check this review of Onward Tickets .
I am adding here a little widget. It is completely free to use. The visa itself usually costs anything from €15.
2. Internet in Europe: eSim Card with Airalo
Are you tired of dealing with the hassle of physical SIM cards while traveling? Imagine a seamless, borderless mobile experience, enabling you to explore Europe without limitations. That’s where Airalo’s revolutionary eSIM card comes into play! With Airalo, you can unlock a world of connectivity, convenience, and cost savings like never before.
Find here our discount code for Airalo .
What exactly is an eSIM card anyway?
Basically, instead of a physical Sim Card to put in your phone, it is a digital that you “ download ” or “ install “.
It’s an electronic SIM that eliminates the need for a physical SIM card. Instead, your smartphone connects directly to the cellular network using a small chip already embedded within it. This means no more fumbling with tiny pieces of plastic or worrying about misplacing your SIM card.
No worries, it is super easy to set up! Airalo has an app and it works just smoothly; no need to be a tech nerd.
Summary: Best travel websites for your Europe travels
Here you go. I will keep this list updated whenever we start using another cool app or website. It is worth it for you to bookmark this exact page.
Over to you:
Do you have any questions? Any websites you are missing for a specific topic? Then please leave us a comment. We are thrilled to help you and to make this article even better for all of us.
Safe travels!

Europe is quite big, and it’s good to experience on the “ground level”. A rental car ride let’s you experience the wonders of traveling to each of your destinations, not as disconnected places between visits to the airport, but as the conclusions to scenic journeys across the European landscape.

Your guide to trains, trams, busses and bikes
Europe has one of the most advanced transportation systems in the world. From massive metropolises to small towns, you can easily link up from place to place by public transport. R iding the rails across this marvelous continent might be the best way to explore: it’s highly efficient, cost-effective, and darn romantic. There’s nothing like riding a train through snow-capped Austrian mountains or beside a still-blue lake.
Long-distance transportation
Most European countries have several types of long-distance trains. The fastest are the high-speed trains, like the TGV system in France. These trains travel at great speed and usually link up two big cities with very few—if any—stops along the way. For example, you can get from Krakow to Warsaw in about two and a half hours, one hour less than driving and far more sustainable to boot. After the high-speed trains, most countries have fast regional trains. For the sake of consistency, let’s stick to France, which has the TER train system . These trains go fast, but often stop a few times along the way and serve smaller towns and cities. Finally, you can find local trains that link up many small towns along a given route. Often, you might find you’ll need to take a combination of two types of trains to get to your destination.
In addition to the trains listed above, Europe is also home to long-distance international lines, which could take you from, say, Stockholm to Barcelona. These trains are often the most romantic . They offer sleeping compartments on night trains and dining cars with full-service meals. Finally, you have scenic routes, which privilege the views and experience over the speed. Here you’ll have viewing cars with glass ceilings, luxurious dining cars, cocktail bars, and real beds. Want to make the journey truly part of the experience? These scenic routes are ideal for you.
Note: trains in Europe are typically very reasonably priced. Perhaps most important, though, they emit far less CO2 than airplanes, making them the ideal environmental choice. Also, make sure to check out multi-country rail passes that give you a single ticket for many train networks around Europe.
Getting around in the city.
Most cities in Europe have an advanced public transport system. Almost invariably, it will consist of a mix of permutations, such as metro lines, tramways, and busses. Once again, public transport is almost certainly the best way to get around in Europe. Parking in most cities can be complicated and is almost always expensive, so ditching the car for a rechargeable metro card will serve you well.
Another great option that most European cities offer is a public biking system. If not, bike rentals are super common and offer you the option to see the city as you travel through it (as opposed to being underground on the metro). Most cities are highly bike-friendly, with some privileging bikes to most other forms of transportation (just visit the Netherlands!). Bikes are also great in the countryside. You can explore entire regions on your two wheels!
Tip: before you visit a city or town, do some research about the public transport. Answer questions like what the hours of the system are and whether you can buy tickets on the bus or must board with a ticket. For bikes and scooters, check whether you need an app or card to access them.
Water-travel: ferries and boats .
Sometimes, boats are best! Ferries are common in European cities and towns on the sea. Often, they connect the mainland with small islands off the coast, but they can also travel long distances like from Sweden to Poland. One great advantage of longer-distance ferries is that you can bring a car.
Barges and cruise boats are also common on European rivers. Though they mainly serve as an experience rather than a form of transport, they are a great way to explore new territory in a peaceful and relaxing way. Hop off the boat to explore new towns, browse local markets, visit small shops, then hop back on the water and head to the next place.
Here are a couple of good routes: take the ferries in Gothenburg to visit a dozen gorgeous islands off the coast; travel down the Rhein or the Danube to see gorgeous medieval villages and taste great wine along the way.
Car travel
Despite all the transit networks in Europe, some places are best reached by car. Typically, these are nature reserves, small villages, or outdoor attractions. To help reduce our impact on the planet, car-sharing is a great way to travel by car. This can take several forms. One option is to look for apps that help you find drivers who are going to the same place as you and have space in their car. One such option is Bla Bla Car in France. In addition, there are also many solutions for renting, from traditional companies to new ones that simplify the process.
One idea: take the train to the nearest city then rent a car to reach your final destination. You can often find rental solutions that enable you to pick up the car right on the street with no need to visit a rental office.
Trave ling with pets .
Don’t leave Spot at home! Pets are welcome on many public transport systems in Europe. But there are some rules you need to follow, depending on where you are. First of all, dogs, cats and ferrets are issued passports. If you are traveling with more than five pets at once (dogs, cats, or ferrets), you will need extra documentation. Because rules differ depending on where in Europe you are, it would be best to check local rules in the specific place you are visiting, especially if you’re traveling with birds, ornamental aquatic animals, reptiles, rodents, or rabbits.
More information on that can be found here and here .
Accessibility .
European cities are always working to make their public infrastructure accessible to all. A great way to explore a city’s accessibility is to visit the list of places that have won an Access City Award. This award celebrates cities that “guarantee equal access to fundamental rights, improve the quality of life of its population, and ensure that everybody, regardless of age, mobility or ability, has equal access to all the resources and pleasures cities have to offer.” For more about the Access City Award, click here . Some recent winners include: Borås, Breda, Gothenburg, and Jönköping.

Commission offers 35,500 DiscoverEU free travel passes to young people
Starting this summer, thousands of young people will once again travel around Europe by train for free thanks to the latest call of the DiscoverEU programme. Today at 12:00 CET during the European Youth Week buzzing with activities , the Commission launched the latest DiscoverEU application round. It will end on Tuesday 30 April at 12:00 CET.
In total, 35,500 travel passes are available. To get one, young people born between 1 July 2005 and 30 June 2006 can do a quiz with five questions about the EU and one additional question on the European Youth Portal . Successful applicants will get a free rail pass to travel in Europe for up to 30 days between 1 July 2024 and 30 September 2025.
The call is open to applicants from the European Union and countries associated to the Erasmus+ programme including Iceland, Liechtenstein, North Macedonia, Norway, Serbia and Türkiye. Ticket holders can plan their own routes or be inspired by existing ones. For example, they can discover a route launched last year, which focuses on cities and places making the European Union ‘beautiful, sustainable and inclusive' in line with the principles of the New European Bauhaus .
Participants can also benefit from the DiscoverEU Culture Route an initiative of the 2022 European Year of Youth that combines various cultural destinations including architecture, music, fine art, theatre, fashion and design. Participants can visit the European Capitals of Culture which are on the UNESCO World Heritage List , European Heritage Label sites, or Access City Award label locations, which are cities that have gone above and beyond to become more accessible to everyone.
DiscoverEU is much more than just a ticket. Participants will also receive a discount card with over 40,000 discount possibilities on public transport, culture, accommodation, food, sports and other services in eligible countries. Additionally, Erasmus+ National Agencies organise pre-departure information meetings, and national agencies across all Erasmus+ countries prepare DiscoverEU Meet-ups , learning programmes lasting from one to three days.
Social inclusion is a top priority of the Erasmus+ programme, so participants with disabilities or health issues receive support on their journeys. Since October 2022, the Erasmus+ National Agencies have implemented the DiscoverEU Inclusion Action , allowing organisations working with young people with fewer opportunities to apply for a grant. This action provides extra support to participants, such as extra funding and the possibility to travel with accompanying persons. More than 250 projects have been awarded by the Erasmus+ National Agencies since the first call in October 2022, and two calls of the Inclusion Action are taking place in this year.
While DiscoverEU encourages sustainable travel by rail, special arrangements are available for young people from outermost regions, Overseas Counties and Territories, remote areas and islands.
The Commission launched DiscoverEU in June 2018 following a preparatory action from the European Parliament. It is integrated into the Erasmus+ programme 2021-2027 .
Since 2018, more than 1 million candidates have applied for 284,000 available travel passes. According to the latest post-travel survey, 72% of candidates declared it to be the first time travelling out of their country of residence by train. For many, it was also the first time they travelled without parents or accompanying adults, and the majority indicated an increased sense of independence. Over two-thirds said that they would not have been able to finance their travel pass without DiscoverEU.
The DiscoverEU experience has given young people a better understanding of other cultures as well as European history and improved their foreign language skills. Participants are invited to become DiscoverEU Ambassadors to champion the initiative. The # DiscoverEU Official group has more than 96,000 members where young travellers can contact each other to share experiences and tips.
To apply, eligible candidates need to complete a multiple-choice quiz on general knowledge about the European Union and other EU initiatives targeting young people. The Commission will rank applicants on the basis of their responses. The Commission will offer travel passes to applicants following their ranking up to the limit of available tickets.

DiscoverEU is a fantastic opportunity for young people who want to explore Europe, discover places and meet new people. I am happy to launch this spring application round during the exciting European Youth Week. I wish the best of luck to all applicants!
