Frequently asked questions

  • Wherever you’re going, flying can be an enjoyable experience if you’re well prepared. First of all, pack your passport, travel documents and medications. Next, toss in some extra in-flight entertainment to while away the hours. The latest bestseller and a tablet filled with your favorite series are good options. If you’re hoping to get some sleep, a comfortable neck pillow and headphones are also worth packing.
  • There’s a lengthy list of items you shouldn’t pack in your carry-on baggage too. Flammables, sharps and explosives are strictly prohibited in the cabin — they often include knives, razor blades, flares and aerosol cans. Some sporting equipment, like martial arts weapons and baseball bats, also generally can’t go in your hand luggage. Check your airline’s website for details about what you can and can’t bring on board.
  • Choose comfort over fashion when flying. Dress in layers and wear natural fabrics since they allow moisture and air to pass through and keep you cool. Cabins can get colder on longer journeys, so bring a pullover and always wear sneakers or flat, closed-toe shoes.
  • Reduce your risk of developing deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a blood clotting condition which can be caused by sitting for extended periods, by regularly walking around the cabin. Alternatively, perform foot and leg exercises in your seat. If you’re at higher risk of developing DVT, consider wearing compression socks.

Top 5 airlines flying to Dubai

We were seated at the back and that was very uncomfortable for me with the turbulence we experienced on our way to Chicago.

I enjoyed flying on Korean Air. The service was great and the food was yummy. They served white fish.

I enjoyed flying on Korean Air. The service was great and the food was yummy, especially the bibimbap and cold spicy noodles. The only thing that bummed me out on this red-eye flight was that my seat did not properly recline so I was not able to sleep.

Ford not that great the seat not to big for leg room like other airline

I like your stewardess, they are nice. However, your food could have been better and wheres your dessert? You do not offer beer or scotch. I do not drink alcohol biut my husband can have one or two, he has to ask if he can have one. during dinner or lunch, it should be offerred. Also, you do not have the most famous drinks ginger ale

Stewardess are nice. Food could have been better and should have a better dessert. They do not offer scotch or beer. You have to ask for it. I also was not happy that you do not serve ginger ale and or cranberry juice. This is my first time that an international flight do not have this. I go home overseas every year and when I travel through ANA, Delta, Qatar, JAL, Asiana Air, United Air. they all serve this two very famous drink. You do not have a great snack tray.

I flew Asiana Air not Korean Air which was my original flight. So, I have no say about Korean Airlines right now. I hope you guys will not make any changes of my flight on Feb 15th. I want to fly Korean Air on Feb 15th. and make sure it is the same flightr njumber for my husband also and do not make any changes on either flights. thank you for reading my letter.

Going through security a third time to get on the next flight was again utterly ridiculous and unnecessary. We were in a International secure area once again and as far as I'm concerned should not have been put through the gears for absolutely no reason. The United States can get all the information they need from the travel itinerary, there was no need to be forced out of a secure area to personally interview everyone on a connecting flight to find out their US immigration status.

Going through security a second time to get on the next Korean Air flight was utterly ridiculous and unnecessary. We were in a International secure area.

Food was just ok, not as tasty as in other airlines. The temperature in the aircraft was a bit warm so it was not comfortable for me and my husband.

Flight was delayed and no information was provided what was new time Change gate 3 times at Madina airport First gate was 113 Second gate was 204 And last gate was 113 again

Emirates is always great experience, however, they should reopen their lounge in Istanbul. The IGA lounge is not worth it

I liked everything accept the delay try to improve in that area

Same problem with very poor food. Gluten free options can taste great, there is not reason to be give suboptimal meals in this situation.

Flights were both delayed. No luggage on arrival for the whole plane and no contact since submitting a PIR.

Flight got canceled without any prior information and it caused lot of trouble

Nice selection of movies and TV shows. Plane was generally nice, not the newest but nice nonetheless. However, Emirates should have cancelled the flight, as hardly any flights flew out of Dubai at the time. Flight delays and cancellation was poorly communicated and passengers were left guessing and to their own devices on what to do. Connection desks were staffed too thinly, there was one desk with more than a hundred clients and just one poor lady. When I had my flights rebooked, I was told meal vouchers can be scanned using my boarding pass, nope. Was told to comeback for my hotel voucher, none. Had to book my hotel voucher the usual way through Dubai Connect despite having been told twice to comeback to the counters twice.

On the Dubai-Gatwick flight the only meal options were Beef or Chicken. No vegetarian option. This was a surprise. I would usually order in advance but did not this time. Would have been good to know that a vegetarian meal is not available as a standard meal. Thankfully it was just me travelling, but if I’d had my kids with me that would have been a big problem for us.

My Experience was ok. But the gentleman next to me vaped the whole flight and the attendants did nothing, whether they were aware, I’m not sure.

Flight from Dubai to Zagreb very bad cabin crew. Bad food

Delayed due to an ill passenger after loading. Not preventable on Delta's part. Was in first class. The seats are becoming worn and detaching from their velcro attachments. Only got snacks on flight. The attendant was not the friendliest.

I had a wonderful experience flying with delta. The gentleman taking care of us on our flight was so nice, accommodating, and attentive. He always was smiling and giving pins to the kids which made me smile. The flight was quick too and without turbulence. Thank you for the great flying experience.

On my way home I had a layover. The flight from ATL to CLT was amended 5x while I was waiting. I could have driven home sooner. Overall from Dallas, Tx to Charlotte, NC I started my trip at 4:30pm, I didn’t get home until past midnight. I know things happen, but 5x to make me run back and forth in an airport from different terminals is excessive. I also upgraded to comfort + , I didn’t feel it was worth it. There was no benefit

It was a Red-Eye flight so was not comfortable enough to sleep, but seat was as expected. Crew was great and in-flight entertainment was excellent. Flight was smooth

Terrible. Delta delays caused us to miss our flight and they did nothing to fix it.

This flight was supposed to land at 10:55 pm on January 14th. Instead, it landed at 3:20 am on Monday, January 15th, resulting in a completely lost day due to not going to bed until 5:00 am.

Flight was on time, the staff was personable & professional, & the plane arrived on time.

Boarding in Seattle is always a mess. Sat in Deltas new domestic first class cabin. Everything was great except I found the seat cushion to be fairly uncomfortable. I’m a bigger guy so take that into mind (6’2” / 300 lbs.). Crew was meh.

I received the two differed meals: chicken and pasta. I asked and I received. I am anti-wasting food!

Bad crew with full of attitude, bad plane. Pls get some new planes. No food, no drinks nothing

The food from Lagos to Amsterdam was was very poor compared to AMS-YYZ

The flight was delayed for 2 hrs. Because they didn’t have a crew to fly. And it is not a first time for klm to do that. Last time they cancelled my filght and rebooked me 3 days later. Not reliable airline

We left one hour late because of technical difficulties. The economy comfort seats are great for the price. The crew was mediocre, they do not provide a pleasant experience, they just deliver food and drinks and give orders, not very amicable, no service and hospitality focus.

Booked connecting flights with KlM. My serving flight was the furthest part of the airport. On arrival in Zurich. My two cases arrived but only one carry on belong to my son. His three suitcase didn't arrive. After enquiring we discovered they were still in Amsterdam. We landed at 11.12. We eventually left the airport just after one.

Seats are fair enough for medium tall people. Good food all the trip. Fight attendances are warm

I thought KLM was the best airline but the Lima - Amsterdam was 1 hours late, the Brussels - Amsterdam was 2.30 hours late and the Amsterdam - Lima was 30 minutes late

no issues at all... Kudos to the food. This time was really really good

The food was ok. The crew seemed like they were cranky. I had one guy get mad at me for passing in between the storage area to get to the other toilet. I can understand if it's not allowed but reprimanding me like I'm a student saying "This is the last time!" was not appropriate. During my meal time, there was a French family around me. No problems there but when we usually have meals, they are supposed to put their chair in the upright position. These people did not do it and the steward did not tell them to raise their seat in the upright position. However, I was told to do so! So, me and another person next to me had to eat with the monitor almost touching our faces. Furthermore, a lady in front of me was putting her feet up and preventing another elder passenger from putting her seat back. To make it worse, she was continuously hitting her back into her seat, shaking my monitor while I was watching a movie. A crew member did speak to her about it but then she accused me of pushing her seat forward! The crew member gave me a death stare and told me to stop pushing the seat forward. I did not even touch her seat at all, if I did, she would know it. Her boyfriend also stood up and tried to push her seat even further past the maximum decline to no avail. None of these people were reprimanded but the steward, some bald guy, was extremely friendly with them and did not even try to instruct them to do anything until it was time to land. I resisted the urge to really argue with them because I would have obviously been seen as the aggressor (I have no idea why). I hardly said anything on this flight except "more wine please" and "sorry" if I bumped into someone accidentally. Overall, it was an annoying flight and I had to resist the urge to yell at the steward and the people he was overly friendly with. The happiest moment of this flight was leaving it.

Overall a good experience. We were disappointed when we had to check our carry on due to the plane being full. KLM hadn’t notified us and we had valuable items in the carry on but they still made us check it. Some of the food was great and some was mediocre. Crew is really kind and funny.

One of the vstewardeses wanted to bump me of the plane for absolutely nothing. There is CCTV in the plane ans everything can be verified. Very disappointing , you all will see, o other 5 years and the passangers who does not smile to flight attendent will be bumped off...

Horrible experience. They "GAME" with seats they decided to play where you can`t select or get seat during check-in without paying and then forcing you to stay long line at the Customer Service at the gate to get a boarding ticket with seat assigned is pathetic. Will never fly with United again!

SO disappointing. I spent so much money on this ticket, for them to cancel and not be able to rebook me in time. They were very unhelpful, and condescending throughout the whole Swiss airport. Will not be flying again.

So terrible. They would not rebook me for a flight until 2 days. I had to spend so much money to get my own flight. They were rude and not helpful.

The Zurich airport is a disaster with to small trains running between the terminals, the trains was overfilled (not good in Corona times). It was no directions in the airport with proper lines so you did not know if you ere standing in the right line. They checked your passport 3 times in the airport = a lot of standing in line. Service on the plane could be a lot better, The cabin crew could have offer more to drink (water, coffee, tea), the food sucked.

Everything was on time and efficient - expected from a Swiss crew. But the entertainment system was pretty bad - the display was old. Food was pretty bad and a couple of times they started serving drinks and then just skipped past my row (and likely several others)

Overall a good experience, the flight was on time, the crew very attentive and friendly. However the seats are too cramped, there is no space, and as soon as the person in front reclines the seat, it's literally in your face.

Bag lost. Lost bag recovery process is an unsatisfying customer experience. Because 1) bag is still lost but also 2) the process is outdated and form-heavy and 3) in our case also involved a long line.

They went out of their way. It was very clean and friendly.

I was pleasantly surprised with the whole experience. Thank you

Wheelchair was the excellent service. I didn’t have any food or used entertainment. Overall for my trip experience was excellent. Thank you very much and keep up good work. Best regards

Top 5 airlines flying to Dubai

Waited too long in the bus to board the plane. Communication was non existence.

Bad food

The only issue was a short window to make my connecting flight, and nobody to assist me in finding my way to the next gate.

This is my first time flying Aegean Air and I had a great first time experience. I will fly this airline again.

There was not any food and I didn't use the entertainment

Just ok. No much of a great travel experience. If you need point A to B they are ok.

More leg room, great if crew could move people before flight (ie if 3 in a row, offer to move 1 or 2 to an empty 3 seat row rather than let people move themselves after takeoff

Very bad experience during the boarding, the Aegean employees were very rude, and impatient with the passengers

Θα πρέπει να υπάρχει εστίαση στη γρήγορη και εύκολη επιβίβαση/αποβίβαση

Flight was late, boarding totally chaotic, seat uncomfortable, food good, attendants and pilots good.

aegean took off late, which made it impossible for us to make the next flight on air canada, we all ran to the terminal, the plane was still there but the air canada folks wouldn't let us board because they said the door was already closed. they told us we had to go all the way back to aegean desk to arrange another flight.

The food from Lagos to Amsterdam was was very poor compared to AMS-YYZ

The flight was again delayed for more then 2 hours with some lousy explanation regarding the reason of the delay. Although the flight was delayed for more than 2 hours, no refreshments were offered (according to EU regulations). Last 4 flights on KLM - always at least 2 hrs late. So be prepared that you cannot plan anything with KLM.

Flight was late and crew were unwilling to help with information on connections. Call light had been on for 61 minutes without tesponse.

we were late to get to this connecting flight and SWISS decided to wait for us . Very nice of them

Kudos to Swiss!! My wife and I thought Swiss was like flying years back: good food service, refreshments, friendly and courteous crew! We look forward to another trip to Europe next year, and it will be a priority to hopefully fly Swiss, thank you! We strongly can say from experience - the treatment (food, drink, entertainment) in service for Economy Class is unmatched!!!

SO disappointing. I spent so much money on this ticket, for them to cancel and not be able to rebook me in time. They were very unhelpful, and condescending throughout the whole Swiss airport. Will not be flying again.

Super friendly crew. Leg space and entertainment system are below average

The plane was so hot upon boarding. Their boarding process was so unnecessarily long. Service was subpar.

Flight was delayed for 4 hours and they misplaced my luggage too. Appalling.

Horrible experience. I was apparently picked at random for a security screening - that was the most demeaning experience I have had in my life with a guy poking and prodding and having me take off my shoes, move up my pants so he could swab my legs - telling me I couldn't bring more than some quantity of cookies - I had 3 boxes of cookies in my luggage. In the end he did let me keep them but that was really uncalled for. Harrassment in the name of security.

Everything was on time and efficient - expected from a Swiss crew. But the entertainment system was pretty bad - the display was old. Food was pretty bad and a couple of times they started serving drinks and then just skipped past my row (and likely several others)

I liked everything accept the delay try to improve in that area

Flight got canceled without any prior information and it caused lot of trouble

Staff were friendly, and provided great service. The food was plentiful and delicious. Food could have been hotter.

More leg room and comfortable seats at least for long flights

The entertainment selections are amazing. But the live TV is sometimes spotty. If you’re going to have it, then have it. If you can’t make it consistent, then, perhaps it’s better not to have it. The crew are always cordial when approached, but they seem to do the minimum and sit around, talking to each other in the back of the plane during the flight. I realize that delays are not always predictable, but I missed my flight in Dubai because we left 90 minutes late from Washington. I will say that Emirates took very good care of me in Dubai. But I would rather not be delayed.

Probably the best flight I’ve ever been on. Emirates first class is leagues beyond British airways and Lufthansa’s.

Great flight. Comfortable seats, courteous service, and excellent selection for entertainment.

Serving food took so long . Almost time close to lend. Plus during landing air pressure in cabin cuss ear blocked took long time to unblock.

Very friendly and efficient staff. Would definitely fly Saudia again.

Entertainment on all 4 business class seats were terrible audio and could barley hear. The 11 hour layover in Riyadh was a nightmare and no one told us that nightmare matter what we do or what we were willing to pay there were no places to rest or sleep and nine of the lounges allow you to enter them no matter what unless you are 4 hours or less from flight time. With a 78 yearold mother with me this is ridiculous. The employees of the airline in Riyadh and of the lounge treated us like servants or lower class people. Never again

The seats’ reclined like premium economy seats, ie, not much.. but leg space was a lot l, so it did not feel cramped. Crew was very friendly and helpful.

It’s like two different companies managing fligh from DC and totally horrible company between Jeddah and Cairo

Route from DC was ok nothing special or bad From Jeddah to cairo horrible First flight got delayed by 3 hours no explanation so what ever Arrived in cairo to find lock on my bag Saudia crew in cairo didn’t know who did could not open had to break my bag zipper to open my luggage

Since it leaves at 2:00am you sleep through most of it.

Flight was delayed, but there was no explanation why. Seats were comfortable and service was good. Food was good and there were more snacks than I expected.

The best way to fly is saudia airlines flight Every thing is better (Number one 🫶) Thank you

My baggage was not with the same flight I travelled

The menu options in business class were few and the crew kept running out of the desired options! So what seemed like 4 options for meals turned out to be just one option! The entertainment system had very few movie selections for Hollywood and Bollywood movies. The audio in the headphones was poor as it was difficult to follow the dialogues; my fellow travelers had similar complaints.

Excellent service and comfort from the moment you check in. Flight crew is hyper focused on making passengers comfortable and at ease. It’s like a flying hotel!

Only chicken as a meat dish through out the flight

Nothing really was great as such. Seen other no name airlines perform better.

Quality of service on board was very inconsistent. FA service primarily seemed robotic and they barely engaged with passengers

I’m unclear why I had to pay extra for assigned seats as Turkish airlines did not honor the seating. We were placed across the aisle from each other on TK 34, and were seated behind one another on TK 694. Because my name was misspelled on e-ticket (Klawiter, instead of Klawitter) I could not log onto website to get the connection gate number in Istanbul. The monitors in the airport were a jumbled mess 1/2 Arabic and 1/2 English.

On line check in needs a lot of improvement. I tried and gave up.

Food not good, flight attendants not the best, not accommodating very ruff

the female flight attendant was racist towards me. I could tell she treated the two other passengers next to me with more softness.

Oh my god! For an13 hour flight they serve you food just one time. Also don’t be thirsty they give you a little small cup of soda to drink. They seem like their goal is to feed you one so they don’t have to be bothered with you. It quite surprise for such a long flight there are several times to eat at least three and the food was well lackluster. The food and lack of offering drinks which were always hot no ice provided.

We were traveling first class. Checkin counter lady and her manager, both were in bad mood and did not treat us well about checking in the handbag. The gate agent took care of it right away. I travel Turkish twice a year in first class. No one has ever refused to check in the hand bag. Not sure, why this agent and her manager refused. Everything else was excellent.

flight delays, staff only communicating when pushed, food service lasting a grand total of 7 minutes, stuck in seat from 45mins into flight until landing

Nice flight, nice crew but no cookie or napkin with my seltzer.

The flight was canceled. Got rebooked to Chicago and when we arrived our luggage where to there. They were going to our original destination the day after. They would not deliver them to our house. We had to go pick them up.

EWR terminal C United Club is great. Flight and everything else mediocre

737 Max was leaking water into the cabin through the windows. Overhead bins opened on landing. Bad bad plane.

Very bad , airplain had problem with engines , had to evacuate, had a delay on my trip for almost 4 hours , lost my rental car in london..

Other than the two hour delay, it was fine. Of course they were very professional and kept us informed throughout the whole delay..

Easy boarding in group 2. Landed 1/2 hr early. Delicious cookie snack.

Good. The wife was not working but then it got resolved.

Missed this flight due to delays from my previous flight

Comfortable seats. Be aware there is no alcohol on this airline.

Seats were comfortable. Be aware there is no alcohol on this airline.

Every thing was very food except the meal. It was a sandwich of something like a beef kebab. It was really bad in terms of hardness as well as taste. We were a family of 7 persons non of us could eat it his sandwich. Cake was good.

It was very nice flight only suggestions to upload recent videos and English subtitles. Thanks

Wheelchair service is not available right away on Kuwait Airways

Everybody was so nice to treat me good all the workers When I came to Bangladesh there was just a little problem with the luggage but I got my luggage it took like two hours Other than that everything is good

Food quality should be upgrade. Plastic spoons looks like not good as well as food quality not up to the mark.

Everything was great specially the seats was comfortable even I was in the economy and the food was really Great👍

Not much on entertainment, food was good but not delicious, flight was on time

The crew was attentive and kind. The business class cabin wasn’t very full during the flight so the service was catered to your specific needs.

Whether you’re visiting for work, exploring with the kids or just stopping by as part of a larger travel adventure, Dubai is a marvel of new era design, technology and fun.

It’s a vibrant global city with something for every age, style and budget, where you can shop til you drop , admire the world’s tallest building and learn about the region’s history and culture in the Al Fahidi Historic District.

Dubai is also a great destination for anyone just getting started with points and miles , as there are many ways to fly and stay for free by using certain travel credit cards , paying attention to airline alliances and maximizing travel rewards whenever possible.

Here’s everything you need to know about traveling to Dubai with points and miles — plus  our favorite things to do there .

How to get started with travel points and airline miles

The Madinat Jumeirah and the Burj al Arab Hotel

The cheapest award flights to Dubai

Your options are limited when it comes to nonstop flights from the U.S. United Airlines offers one route from Newark, but otherwise, you’ll need to fly on Emirates from Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, Newark, New York, Orlando, San Francisco, Seattle or Washington DC.

For those open to one-stop flights, Air Canada offers a nonstop from Toronto, while any number of connections are available through partners of American Airlines, United Airlines and Delta Air Lines, providing plenty of options via cities throughout Europe, Asia and the Middle East.

  • Cheapest economy class ticket to Dubai: 60,000 Flying Blue miles round-trip
  • Cheapest business-class ticket to Dubai: 104,000 ANA Mileage Club miles round-trip
  • Cheapest first-class ticket to Dubai: 195,000 ANA Mileage Plan miles round-trip

The best travel credit cards

The new premium economy on Emirates

Emirates Skywards

While not the lowest redemption on the list, Skywards miles provide the most opportunities to fly nonstop from 12 U.S. cities, plus Toronto. Emirates is also connected to every major flexible rewards credit card loyalty program, so it’s easy to rack up points quickly.

Use the miles calculator on the Emirates website to plug in your desired cities and fare class, then select “spend” on the results page to view rates.

Here’s how many Skywards miles it would cost to fly to Dubai from the U.S.:

  • Economy Class: 72,500 to 125,000 miles round-trip (East Coast); 82,500 to 142,500 miles round-trip (West Coast)
  • Business Class: 174,000 to 276,000 miles round-trip (East Coast); 198,000 to 315,000 miles round-trip (West Coast)
  • First Class: 327,000 miles round-trip (East Coast); 372,000 miles round-trip (West Coast)

Note that Emirates is also connected to United Airlines, though the recent partnership is rather limited and the rules for earning and redeeming miles across airlines seem pretty complicated .

Earn Skywards miles quickly by transferring points from Bilt Rewards, Chase Ultimate Rewards, American Express Membership Rewards, Capital One Rewards or Citi ThankYou Rewards (1:1) or Marriott Bonvoy (3:1).

Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan

Mileage Plan miles are one of the most valuable currencies in the points-and-miles game, giving you the power to fly with any of Alaska Airlines’ 30 partners, including American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Japan Airlines, Royal Air Maroc, Royal Jordanian or Qatar Airways.

The carrier recently switched to a new distance-based award chart for partner redemptions, so calculate the distance between your desired airports on Great Circle Mapper to see how many miles you’ll need to cash in.

Here’s how many Mileage Plan miles you’ll need to fly from the U.S. to Dubai with any partner airline, ranging from the East Coast to the West Coast:

  • Economy Class: 70,000 to 85,000 miles round-trip
  • Business Class: 140,000 to 170,000 miles round-trip
  • First Class: 210,000 to 260,000 miles round-trip

Make the lucrative welcome bonus from one of Alaska Airlines’ cobranded credit cards work in your favor or if your balance is still on the low side, transfer points over from Marriott Bonvoy (3:1) for a boost.

  • Alaska Airlines Visa® card: Earn 60,000 bonus miles once you spend $3,000 within the first 90 days of account opening — and earn Alaska’s $99 Companion Fare each year after you spend $6,000.
  • Alaska Airlines Visa® Business Card: Earn 50,000 bonus miles, plus Alaska’s $99 Companion Fare (fare plus taxes and fees from $23), after spending $3,000 within the first 90 days of opening your account.

American Airlines AAdvantage

  • Economy Class: From 80,000 miles round-trip
  • Business Class: From 140,000 miles round-trip
  • First Class: From 230,000 miles round-trip

Best credit cards for international travel

Avianca LifeMiles

Using Avianca LifeMiles to fly Star Alliance partners like United Airlines, which has a nonstop hop to Dubai from Newark, or Air Canada, which has a direct route from Toronto, is a great points-and-miles sweet spot.

LifeMiles can also be used for one-stop flights on partners like Turkish Airlines (via Istanbul), SWISS (via Zurich) or Lufthansa (via Frankfurt).

Here’s how many miles you’ll need for any of those partner options:

  • Economy Class: 85,000 miles round-trip
  • Business Class: 156,000 miles round-trip
  • First Class: 210,000 miles round-trip

Transfer points from Capital One Rewards, Citi ThankYou Rewards, American Express Membership Rewards or Bilt Rewards (1:1) or Marriott Bonvoy

Should you book travel with cash or points?

You can fly to Dubai in All Nippon Airways' esteemed “The Room” business class from just 104,000 miles round-trip

All Nippon Airways (ANA) Mileage Club

Like LifeMiles, ANA Mileage Club miles can be used for award redemptions with the same Star Alliance partners listed above, including United Airlines and Air Canada, among others.

Start by searching for award availability on United’s website, then confirm it with ANA. There are two rules: you’re only allowed to book round-trip redemptions (not one-way trips) and just for yourself or family members.

  • Economy Class: 65,000 miles round-trip
  • Business Class: 104,000 miles round-trip
  • First Class: 195,000 miles round-trip

You can accrue ANA Mileage Club miles in a hurry by transferring points from Marriott Bonvoy (3:1) or American Express Membership Rewards (1:1).

Traveling to Japan using points and miles

Arriving at Atlantis Monorail station, Dubai

Activities and ground transportation

Getting around Dubai is pretty easy thanks to an extensive public transport system involving metro, tram, bus and boat service, as well as a monorail linking Dubai Marina and the Palm Jumeirah . Taxis are plentiful, while ride-share fans can get their fill with Uber and Dubai-based Careem.

Driving is done on the right side of the road and the left side of the car. If you don’t want to spend a ton on taxis, renting a car is a great option for doing day trips from Dubai to places like Abu Dhabi , just 90 minutes away, or Sharjah , the UAE’s cultural capital.

Chase Sapphire Preferred  and Chase Sapphire Reserve cardholders can save on guided tours and rental cars by booking them through the Chase Travel℠ portal, where Ultimate Rewards points are worth 1.25 cents per point or 1.5 cents per point, depending on the card.

The Chase Sapphire Reserve includes a $300 annual travel credit, which can be used to cover recent travel purchases. Other cards, like the Capital One Venture  and the Capital One Venture X , allow you to redeem miles toward travel charges at a value of one cent per mile — hey, every little bit counts!

How to get major perks at global events and concerts with your credit card

Bottom line

Thanks to points and miles , there’s no reason a trip to Dubai needs to break the bank. By maximizing welcome bonuses and formulating a strategy to fly and stay for free using travel rewards , you’ll be able to focus more on enjoying your time here instead of worrying about your bill.

Emirates' Business and First Class cabins are next level.

Some Emirates planes even boast a cocktail lounge

The Old Dubai Souk market is bursting with spices, textiles, jewelry and more.

A First Timer’s Guide to Dubai — From Emirates Flights to the Skyscrapers to a Surprisingly Funky Neighborhood

A luxury land like no other.

Dubai is an ever-growing international hub with skyscrapers galore, including Burji Khalifa, the tallest building in the world.

T he Burj Khalifa towers over Dubai’s downtown cityscape. The tallest building in the world, it is a sign of innovation for the Middle Eastern city creation, a welcoming beacon for the sparkling modern metropolis and its world stage intentions.

To some, Dubai is a quick stopover on their way to another faraway destination or solely a place with over-the-top glitz and glam. But really, the United Arab Emirates destination is a burgeoning international hub with a culture all its own.

Dubai is filled with world record-worthy attractions, but it is also marked by over-the-top luxury hospitality, a soulful creative scene and culinary talent ready to be discovered.

Flying Emirates to Dubai

To get the true Dubai experience, taking a flight with Emirates Airlines is something of a  must. Experiencing the airline, noted for its superb service, sets the tone for an indulgent and amenity-filled trip to the Middle East. Emirates offers direct flights to Dubai from both Houston and Dallas, making it relatively luxurious and convenient despite the long haul.

From check-in to landing, Emirates takes every detail of the 15 hour-ish journey to a luxury level. Emirates’ business class or first class cabin seats offer doting service and ultra plush amenities. You can almost forget you are in an airplane while enjoying gourmet meals and pristine pods.

Some Emirates planes even boast a cocktail lounge

Details like mattresses added to your lay flat seat at bedtime and fresh mint in your tea go far beyond the usual first class perks. And the wood-lined cabins and well-outfitted flight attendants don’t hurt either. Emirates even offers a chauffeur service for business and first class passengers, making any trip a true round trip luxury experience.

Outdoor Dining with Bering's

Bering's Gift's April 2024

Doting attendants seem to come standard. If you are traveling on the Emirates A380, there are even full sized shower spas and an onboard lounge.

Making the long haul to the Middle East seem faster, an Emirates journey is full of gourmet food at every turn. The dinner service includes curated fine wines, cocktails and delightful food that defies the usual airplane foods stigma.

After landing in Dubai, travelers will be ready to hit the ground running to soak up the Emirati culture .

Inside Dubai

The Dubai cityscape is safe and pristine with welcoming English speaking locals making it easy to enjoy a carefully planned land that is built to wow. Dozens of five and six star hotels dot the skyline and the blue coastline. There is no question this is land of luxury. Hotels like Four Season Dubai at Jumeirah Beach make it easy to enjoy a beachside vacation with the perks of a busy city.

The international food scene — and big dollars — of Dubai have attracted some of the world’s top chefs. An international mix of residents and expats brings a booming food scene to life with every type of cuisine from almost any country you can imagine available.

Alserkal Avenue21

Best of all, Dubai is bursting with homegrown restaurants that are making a global name for themselves. Orfale Brothers, a fusion spot from a family focused set of Syrian siblings, now ranks among the 50 Best Restaurants In the World. Like many in an area not in a designated drinking licensed section of Dubai (this is still a country with some strict rules), the restaurant doesn’t serve alcohol. Instead, you’ll find a thoughtful selection of non-alcoholic craft drinks including specialty house made kombuchas and juices.

In some ways, it’s a refreshing change.

The innovation occurring in Dubai results in a delightful mix of old and new. Travelers can enjoy traditional Emirati culture with a visit to Old Dubai, a quant village lined with historic buildings along the canal and a bustling souk full of authentic Emirati textiles, spices and teas. The Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding in Dubai’s Old Town hosts traditional meals, geared towards educating visitors on  the region’s customs

Another must to appreciate Dubai is a trip to the wild desert lands. Platinum Heritage, a premier luxury excursion company , takes visitors on a desert safari to soak up the sparkling sand and old Bedouin traditions. Boasting the largest collection of vintage Land Rovers in the world, Platinum’s knowledgeable guides take visitors on a journey through a desert game reserve, complete with camel rides, Arabic dancing and fireside Emirati cooking.

Heritage Safari by Camel – Platinum Heritage 6 Camel Ride

More modern areas of Dubai bring a surprising amount of contemporary culture to the city. Areas like Alserkal Avenue, a local funky hub full of galleries, coffee shops, yoga studios and well curated boutiques from local owners, reflect the city’s  creativity.

The Dubai Design District, a modern cool area plays host to top designer showrooms and interior design firms with lively restaurants and showrooms attracting Dubai’s chic set to merge work and play with style.

The unexpected innovation of Dubai and an intriguing mix of cultures makes this international city worthy of more than just a quick stopover for a dose glitz and glamour.

Discover for Yourself Why Dubai is the Hot Travel Destination

Broad, manicured streets are lined with sleek and impressive skyscrapers, evidence of Dubai's superb economic vitality. Everything in Dubai is over-the-top. Its Burj Khalifa is the world's tallest building, and its Palm Islands are the largest artificial islands in the world. The Burj al Arab, the only seven-star hotel on earth, perches on its own private island, a gleaming interpretation of a ship's sail. As befits a city with so many elegant services, Dubai offers a bounty of upscale entertainment, recreation and lodging in a glittering tropical setting. In keeping with Dubai's penchant for generously sized buildings, Dubai is home to some of the most immense shopping malls in the world. You'll be awe-struck by the Dubai Mall, showcasing more than 1,000 shops, a 22-screen cinema, 160-plus food establishments, an aquarium and an ice rink. Take a break from shopping to enjoy the center's largest dancing fountain in the world. The fountain projects 1.5 million lumens of light and water sprays up to 500 feet tall, all choreographed to classical, world and Arabic music. Aside from all of Dubai's glistening contemporary sites, the city also offers some captivating historic areas. Browse through local artifacts and exhibits at Dubai Museum. Marvel at the medieval Fatimid-style minarets and bright, white dome of Jumeirah Mosque, one of the largest mosques in the area.

Wander through the old souk marketplaces to shop for fine fabrics, local wares, gold and food. Outside the city, explore Arabian history at the old Burj Nahar watchtower, built in the 19th century as one of three posts guarding the city. Revel in the traditions found at the Hatta Heritage Village in the Hajjar Mountains, about an hour outside Dubai. The traditional 16th century village features a mosque, a watchtower, a fort and houses made of stone, mud, palm tree trunks and reeds.  True to its modern nature, Dubai also provides several thrilling theme parks, as well as fascinating nature reserves filled with flamingos, broad-billed sandpipers and other waterbirds.

Top 5 airlines flying to dubai.

Checkin and boarding staff at Delhi Airport is not cooperative with passengers Their behavior very humiliating . They don’t allow Lap top bag and Ladies’ purse/vanity bag which most of the airlines allow besides cabin baggage and check in baggages. They try to charge extra payment on the pretext of small variations which normally other Airlines staff don’t do. Airline staff should be courteous & cooperative but check in staff of Emirates Airline at Delhi was not so at all.

1st time with. Etihad Airways and it was amazing from check in to crew. Great flight.

It has been a couple of years since I flew with Etihad last, after having a unpleasant experience with them coming out of the pandemic. I can say that the experience has uplifted, but I can’t really rate the service. At Barcelona airport the service was great, with their dedicated Etihad staff very helpful. The onboard experience wasn’t great, not very personalised and it really makes sense why Etihad doesn’t feature in the top 10 2023 Skytrax awards. The crew just seemed to be inattentive and almost absent from the cabin. I felt that I had to keep getting their attention. Even after I’d finished my meal, an hour went by before I had to call them to clear the tray/plate etc.

Crew were very polite and quicker in service. Excellent cooling, comfortable seats and tasty food served

In my opinion, Etihad Airways is a first rate airline except for one important element. On the day before my return flights, when I chose my seats on the Etihad website I was charged an additional $55 (US) in order to sit on the aisle. I was not at all happy about this additional "hidden" charge and I felt cheated.

The staff was kind and polite, but it was very very hot and no ways to have some fresh air.it would be also be nice to have more time to sleep, since it was a night flight

My wife and I were upgraded to Business Class on our Dublin-Abu-Dhabi flight on the 22nd of January. Being served by "Mariyan" (not too sure about her name, she's from Tunisia) was the real highlight of our flight, she deserves to be working with etihad. We are looking forward to the next upgrade as we are flying back to Dublin on February 01, 2024. If I am not mistaken we have just reached GOLD status as Etihad Guests.

Eine Toilette der Business Class war gesperrt und somit nicht benutzbar.

One thing is very important is you people not giving seat arrangement together to couple, senior citizen. You have to take care of senior citizen. Do not look about money. Money is not important everywhere. Make relationship strong is very very important. I like Etiyad air line out of all air line. Food was hot and delicious. Air hostess gave very good service, nice attitude, very good behaviour. I gave 10 out of 10 marks. Thanks Jivraj

I WOULD ADVISE NOT TO BOOK YOUR FLIGHT ON KAYAK. THEY SHOW BETTER FARES AND AFTER I BOOKED MINE, I FIND OUT THAT IT DID NOT INCLUDE LUGGAGE. i HAD TO PAY $800 TO CHECK IN MY BAGS.

Entertainment did not work from flight from Abu Dhabi to Kolkata. Emirates has a much better flight in that sector.

Indigo attempts to make you pay for a seat during check in. I opted to not do this. The result - they allotted me and my minor son seats apart. In the interest of making maximum money, they seem to have lost common sense too. Similarly, even during the flight, the crew are busy trying to serve food to those who’ve already paid for it. By the time they’re done, it’s time to land and no one else is able to get anything. Sadly this seems to be what makes them profitable, customers just need to bear with it till a better airline comes along.

As usual invariably delayed Lots of time in getting chkd in baggage

Staff needs to be trained in managing customers better. Indigo appears to be a low cost airlines in all aspects.

Flight was delayed and also lots of mosquitoes on the flight

Two times the gate was changed and flight got delayed

INDIGO Never On Time & Always Prefer to Shuttle Passengers Like shuttle Corks

I did not like the communication gap existing amongst the staff and the customer. My flight to Nagpur was delayed by two and half hours but it was informed to me on email ( not by W.A. or SMS) when I have already left my home in Baner area. I was painfully detained at airport with luggage when the gate no. 10 was changed to 5. I'll never recommend your flight to anybody.

Seats don't recline, no charging points. New aircraft and very clean. Crew should serve some water atleast.

Wife and I were seated in separate seats across the aisle

There was inordinate delay without any plausible reason. This has become a normal feature of Indigo now a days.

I have been an NRI living abroad for the last 35 years, but I had one of my worst experiences recently at the Dharbhanga airport, especially with the ground staff. Their behavior was very rude; one of the staff members almost abused me and charged me extra for my laptop and cable that I was carrying from Dharbhanga to Delhi, where I had an international flight. Despite being careful with the weight limits, the ground staff treated me very poorly, making it one of the worst flying experiences of my life.

Staff could have been helpful when traveling with kids and seniors. Not at all professional staff, just some janitors who do not understand hospitality. The food was horrible; the tomatoes tasted foul. The flight was small and the legroom was not good.

Flight was changed without proper monitor display. Boarding process was confusing with no announcements.

Flight arrived on time even though boarding and takeoff were delayed. No infant seatbelt provided. Crew was a bit indifferent. Baggage was damaged and representatives refused to write up a damage report.

IGI T-1 terminal is under renovation. So, the boarding and check in process took extremely long, due to reduced number of kiosks. Further, the flight was delayed by 1 hour 15 mins. The same was not being properly informed to the passengers because of which a feeling of slight chaos was evident amongst the passengers. All this further increased the discomfort, which was already in the menu due to the ATR aircraft. Lastly, the Spicescreen website wasn't working properly due to pathetic interface and poor wifi connectivity, which otherwise could have been a pass-time during the flight. Such issues were not expected from Spicejet and need to be taken care and handled in a better manner in future.

The flight 3 time delay I was so nervous and full tired

Flight cancelled without notice at the 11th hour, refund not done now one week passed

Timing Should be Accurate to Fly Flight was Delay By 3 hrs

Fly has been canceled 3 hours before departure. That happens after 2 delayed departures. No automatic compensation. Spicejet refused to give us compensation form. Bad service.

Landing at Delhi IGI AIRPORT was not smooth. It made us bit nervous. Then the rest was ok. Staff and the crew are very efficient.

Need to update the staff of the airport. They tell luggage weight according to they want.

The Air India lounge in Delhi , was very disappointing! The food was of poor quality and options were limited especially for vegetarians!! Beverages were fine. The in flight crew was excellent! . They helped me with my seat controls - the controls did not work without a hassle or assistance!! A very poor showing for a Business cabin!!! Post flight , the wheel chair passengers ( including Me) were “ shepherded and left waiting twice (an hour or more) before taking us to immigration! I chose to Fly Air India because I want. to patronize our National carrier with the hope that the experience will improve!!! Regrettably, I will have to look at other options for my next trip to India

Mediocre staff, crappy food selections and no entertainment for a 14 hour flight. The only good thing was that it was a direct flight.

Entertainment system was not working and was told I would get a voucher and have not got one. No toiletries were available not even a toothbrush false sweet talk by ground staff

Not comfortable for sitting. Sits are too close to each other and it’s too hard for butt..you need to improve your entertainment section like tv programming, Movies, it’s so hard to kill 15 hrs in long flights .you don’t serve good food like other competitive airlines thats my opinion

Worst International flight I ever had in my whole life time. Boarding is the worst of all and flight experience was also not good. Screens were not working, seats were not comfortable and lot more.

Comfortable seats, on time departures and arrival, and helping staff

Very very impressed with the proactive care and alertness with which ABHISHEK Chowdhary took care of us. Quietl, dignified , very alert, and meticulous. Very impressed. Also with SUNiL Kumar who was there for us in a very helpful way. SHERLY ALEX On Flight 119, BOM TO JFK CUSTOMER ON SEAT 21C, 21ST March 2024

If you are traveling to mumbai -- must try SFO - MUM direct flight. It's a game changer when you are traveling to India. Timings are well designed, optimal and makes the travel enjoyable.

On time boarding, proper information, friendly and cordial approach of staff, particularly crew members and the most important timely available of checked in baggage after arrival.
