"Journey 2: The Mysterious Island" looks like nothing so much as one of those live-action adventures that Disney used to grind out in the 1950s — and hey, here's Captain Nemo's Nautilus to prove it. Also, a tree house to humble "Swiss Family Robinson," which contains a short-wave radio that has been assembled from old spoons, I think I heard.

The movie is very, very loosely a sequel to " Journey to the Center of the Earth ," with only two connections: It's inspired by a Jules Verne novel, and it co-stars young Josh Hutcherson as the hero Sean. The film opens with him on a motorcycle and being chased by cops, but not to worry; all he did was break into a satellite-tracking station to boost the power on a message for help sent by his grandfather from a lost island in the Pacific.

Sean, whose father in the first film ( Brendan Fraser ) has disappeared (from the cast, anyway), now has to deal with Hank ( Dwayne Johnson , aka the Rock). Hank is his new stepdad. Josh and Hank make friends by decrypting grandfather's message; Hank glances at it and intuits that the two-syllable words stand for dots and one-syllable words stand for dashes, which means Grandpa has had enough free time on his remote island to figure out a way to make Morse code several times longer than it previously was. Unanswered is why grandfather would encrypt a call for help.

This Hank, what a swell guy. He proposes that the two of them fly off to the Pacific and find Grandpa. On arrival somewhere, they hire a tourist helicopter pilot named Gabato, played by Luis Guzman as another one of those low-comedy guys who gets all worked up and is scared of stuff. (I enjoyed a reprise of this classic shot: Gabato runs toward camera, falls on stomach, looks up …and up … and up.)

Gabato has a daughter named Kailani ( Vanessa Hudgens ), a Polynesian beauty who wears a tank top and Daisy Dukes throughout the film. These four fly off in the helicopter, are trapped in a Force Five hurricane that rips it to pieces and are lucky enough to find themselves alive on the beach of the Mysterious Island.

This is your complete island. It has an active volcano; waterfalls with no apparent water sources streaming down cliffs; elephants the size of dogs, and giant lizards that are nowhere big enough to account for the size of their eggs. (Josh falls through the shell of one, splashes in a pool of yolk and is attacked by an unborn lizard chick.) Also on the island is the lost city of Atlantis, even though it's in the wrong ocean, and bees so big Sean and Kailani can both ride on the back of one. And Alexander Anderson, Sean's grandfather, played by Michael Caine , who will not be editing this role into his videos about how to act in movies.

I hope you understand I enjoyed most of this stuff. The director, Brad Peyton , apparently intended it as a genial parody of countless other movies in this spirit. There is, for example, a scene were Sean, Grandpa, Kailani and Gabato all sit around the old campfire and listen while Hank strums a ukulele and sings "What a Wonderful World." And I mean he sings it: every word of three verses. It's not every day you see the Rock channeling Gene Autry.

Sean deduces that Verne's novel contains everything they need to know, and this comes in handy when the volcano explodes, and the island begins to sink into the sea. Sure enough, Captain Nemo's submarine is still hidden underwater. Hank and Sean, trusting Verne, dive off a high cliff, and while holding their breath and swimming underwater, are able to (1) find the sub, (2) open the hatch by tugging and twisting it, (3) swim inside, (4) push a lever to fill it with air, and (5) get the power generator working by jump-starting it with an electric eel.

This is transcendently goofy. It isn't a "good" movie in the usual sense (or most senses), but it is jolly and good-natured, and Michael Caine and Dwayne Johnson are among the most likable of actors. Johnson is such a good sport, he even shows young Sean how to impress girls by flexing your pecs so quickly that nuts will ricochet off them. I can't think of any reason to pay extra for the 3-D.

Educational Value

The movie is intended to entertain rather than educate.

Positive Messages

Families work hard to stick together and stand by each other, even if that requires making sacrifices. Teens learn to understand and respect their parents and guardians. Together, and by using teamwork, the group is able to overcome many giant-sized challenges.

Positive Role Models

The movie's two father figures are both positive role models. Neither is perfect -- they have moments of bull-headedness, cowardice, and other flaws -- but they're completely devoted to their kids and will never give up, even if that means making sacrifices or facing fears. A young woman shows that she can take care of herself.

Violence & Scariness

Giant monsters roar and chase the main characters; many of those chases end up with the creatures getting smushed and crunched. There's a somewhat scary helicopter crash scene and some "gross out" scenes as well.

Did you know you can flag iffy content? Adjust limits for Violence & Scariness in your kid's entertainment guide.

Sex, Romance & Nudity

Kailani (Vanessa Hudgens) is shown in slow-motion letting down her hair and removing a button-up shirt to reveal a tight-fitting tank top. Her cleavage is sometimes visible. She and Sean often argue in a flirty way, and there's a kiss at the end.

Did you know you can flag iffy content? Adjust limits for Sex, Romance & Nudity in your kid's entertainment guide.

Sporadic use of potty talk and mild language -- mostly during loud chase scenes -- as well as insults; words include "hell," "oh my God," "ass," "piss,'' "poop," and ''crap."

Did you know you can flag iffy content? Adjust limits for Language in your kid's entertainment guide.

Products & Purchases

Sean opens and drinks from a Coca-Cola in an early scene. The label isn't clearly on view, but the bottle's shape and color are unmistakable.

Drinking, Drugs & Smoking

Not an issue except for a quick, humorous line of dialogue: "What were you drinking?"

Did you know you can flag iffy content? Adjust limits for Drinking, Drugs & Smoking in your kid's entertainment guide.

Parents Need to Know

Parents need to know that Journey 2: The Mysterious Island is the sequel to 2008's entertaining Journey to the Center of the Earth . The Hunger Games ' Josh Hutcherson is the sole returning cast member, but the tone is very similar to the original. Overall, it's a family-friendly adventure -- albeit one with frequent tense chases, monster attacks, and a somewhat scary helicopter crash (some of which is a bit more intense in the movie's 3-D version). There's also flirting and a kiss between the two main teen characters, and co-star Vanessa Hudgens is often shown wearing a tight, cleavage-enhancing tank top. Expect some gross-out humor, as well as potty talk and very sporadic mild language ("ass," "hell," etc.). This is no cinematic classic, but it is bright and cheerful and has positive characters, including fatherly role models. Just like a poop in a punch bowl, what's the story.

After surviving his Journey to the Center of the Earth , Sean Anderson ( Josh Hutcherson ) is back living with his mom ( Kristin Davis ) and step-dad, Hank ( Dwayne Johnson ). Sean gets a coded message from his grandfather about the location of Jules Verne's famed "Mysterious Island." Hoping for some much-needed bonding time, Hank volunteers to go with him. In Palau, they hire a ramshackle helicopter, piloted by Gabato (Luis Guzman). Happily for Sean, Gabato's pretty daughter, Kailani ( Vanessa Hudgens ), comes with the deal. After crashing on the island, the explorers discover a world of tiny elephants, huge bees, and lost cities. But they also realize that they must find Sean's grandfather -- and discover a way off the island before time runs out.

Is It Any Good?

From the director of Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore , JOURNEY 2: THE MYSTERIOUS ISLAND is as clumsy and clunky as its title. The pace is speedy, but it seems as though the movie sacrificed logic, character, mood, and rhythm to achieve that speed. Moreover, the visual effects appear soft and never quite mesh with the real stuff. Even the 3D effects don't really add anything except for the occasional "comin' at ya" moment.

On the plus side, the movie has an inviting, warm, open-air feel, and it's more innocuous than it is obnoxious. Strong, positive characters -- including a young woman who can take care of herself -- and family bonding moments are also very appealing. Not to mention that this is the only movie in which you can see former pro wrestler Dwayne Johnson (a.k.a. "The Rock") playing the ukulele and singing "What a Wonderful World."

Talk to Your Kids About ...

Families can talk about Journey 2 's violence and scary stuff. How does its fantasy nature affect its impact? How do the movie's intense experiences affect Sean and his step-dad's relationship?

How does the movie portray families? How does that message/depiction compare to what you've seen in other movies and TV shows?

How does the movie portray fathers? There's a theme of "missing dads," but there are also great dad characters here. What's the take-away?

The first Journey movie was an adaptation of a Jules Verne novel; this movie's title also cites a Verne book but isn't a direct adaptation. What other books does it remind you of? Are there any you'd like to read after watching the movie?

Critic Reviews for Journey 2: The Mysterious Island

Audience reviews for journey 2: the mysterious island.

What's interesting about this standard adventure tale is how it tells it's story: the barest bones of construction, and only the points you are already well versed with (from all the other adventure tales they've "borrowed" from) to get to the point quickly. Quite literally they find a "secret map written in code" and decipher the thing in less than 5 minutes, and then "it's off to the island!". Everything happens fast, and everyone's only playing a cliche, and so after a minute it becomes cool simply watching the race to the end. Should I tell you "no surprises here"? If I did, that would be the only surprise of this feature.

how many journey 2 movies are there

Better than the first mostly due to the fact that the cast were more likeable and the story wasn't as cheesy, It's still cheesy but it's fun, The effects were ok but some looked pretty bad in places, I can't comment on the 3D as I watched the 2D version but just like the first it looked like it would be good in 3D, The story was predictable but fun and most of all my kids enjoyed it and that's the films target audience so it's hard to be too critical.

I just finished watching on my cable this science fiction adventure comedy directed by Brad Peyton. This is a sequel to Journey to the Center of the Earth, and is based on another Jules Verne novel, this time The Mysterious Island. Very unusual cast stars Dwayne Johnson, Michael Caine, Josh Hutcherson, Vanessa Hudgens, Luis Guzmán, and Kristin Davis. The story was written by Richard Outten, Brian Gunn and Mark Gunn, and the screenplay by Brian and Mark Gunn. This movie became a box office success with a worldwide gross of nearly $326 million, surpassing its predecessor, I think mainly because of the 3D technology. The story is happening four years since the events of the first movie, and starts with the 18-year-old Sean Anderson (Josh Hutcherson) involved in a chase with the police which ended with him driving into a swimming pool. His step-father Hank (Dwayne Johnson) arrives and later discovers that Sean had broken into a satellite research centre in order to boost the signal of a code he'd received by someone he suspects is Alexander Anderson, Sean's grandfather who had been missing for two years. Wanting to bond with his stepson the next day, Hank helps Sean decipher the code of Jules Verne and makes a map from the three books in the coded letter with the coordinates to its location. All they need to do now is to convince Sean's mother to let the both of them go in search of the island. This is a film with very likable characters and actors in an adventure which could excite the younger audience, but not too exciting for the older. It is moving quickly but parts of the story almost seemed unrelated at some moments. Directing seemed done without any motivation... that doesn't mean it was bad, but wasn't very noticeable. If you want to spend a night with a family watching something which is semi-sweet and very colourful, give it a go!

Journey to ridiculous. But nice visuals/SFX. The Rock delivers the same crappola performance he's famous for...sadly.

Rotten Tomatoes® Score

Journey 2: The Mysterious Island immediately recognizes its audience and, fully accepting its constraints, pleases them with its fabulous drive and its intrinsic linearity. [Full review in Spanish]

There’s nothing about this family-friendly movie that’s outrageously offensive, but there’s nothing about it that’s particularly interesting, well-executed, or inventively conceived either.

...entertaining yet chintzy...

A screenplay that never quite clicks on all cylinders. There are too many scenes dealing with relationships that really halt any momentum.

Journey 2 is simply magical.

Undeniably an exhilarating family friendly, action adventure that'll no doubt thrill younger audiences.

Like its predecessor, Journey 2: The Mysterious Island is a race against time to survive, but the inclusion of new characters adds a little more interest.

For a family, this is an agreeable Saturday outing, largely because director Brad Peyton doesn't set his sight higher than the material actually is.

"Journey 2: The Mysterious Island" is light, airy family entertainment that actually ends up being too light and airy.

It's a harmless, lighthearted film with wooden acting, a nice message about accepting your parents-whoever they are-and again, lots of ridiculous CGI.

Animated movies have always been a constant source of entertainment for both children and adults alike, going from strength to strength over the past decade or two, in no small part due to Pixar.

Thanks to the incredibly high bar set by them, other studios have raised their game, resulting in such recent gems as Despicable Me , How to Train Your Dragon and Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs .Each provides a really good balance of humour and excitement, for pretty much all ages.

Live action movies aimed at a younger generation, though, have fared less well over the years, proving to be utterly predictable in terms of quality, with adventure stories even more so. Just look at the awful Will Ferrell version of Land Of The Lost , or even the predecessor to Journey 2 , the forgettable Journey To The Center Of The Earth , which starred Brendan Fraser back in 2008. In most cases juvenile humour takes centre stage, with a total lack of wit, or anything approaching ingenuity sadly absent.

Thankfully, then, Journey 2 is an absolute blast, proving that one man’s pecs and a knighted, British legend on the back of a giant insect really can be the making of an entire film.

Ad – content continues below

The plot is brutally efficient, as Journey 2 races through its ninety-minute runtime at speed. It starts with a motorbike chase, as the now teenage form of actor Josh Hutcherson appears, returning as Sean Anderson (the only character kept on from the original as far as I can remember), is on the run from the police. Within minutes we’ve established that Sean’s suffering from being a near intolerable teenager, with a step-father, Hank, in the large shape of Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, who Sean resents for being nice to him (seriously, who wouldn’t want The Rock as a step-dad?). Furthermore, Sean is  hell bent on finding his missing grandfather.

Soon a bonding adventure is under way between the estranged pair, after a quick bit of map puzzling and riddle solving, as they seek out the Mysterious Island, picking up a Looney Tunes pilot (Luis Guzman) and his teen hormone igniting daughter (Vanessa Hudgens, who has little to do aside from delivering some fairly clunky dialogue and providing a little love interest). So far, so predictable, and in truth, the film continues along a well worn route.

But sometimes a film makes no bones about its lack of originality, it just chooses to make the journey itself as entertaining and slick as possible. In this case, it also takes great pleasure in referencing its Jules Verne origins, as well as Indiana Jones, along the way.

Take Guzman’s character, Gabby, who fills the role of comedic idiot (in this case bordering on total mental deficiency). He’s there to nothing more than make noises and panic, to amuse younger children. At first, the overacting seemed too out of control, yet as the film progresses and his adoration of Hank becomes slightly more homo-erotic, I found myself chuckling along. Inno small part, I’m sure, because I’d almost certainly act the same way in the presence of The Rock.

And it’s the humour in Journey 2 that’s really the making of the film, with the more outlandish elements just adding to its enjoyment.

I found myself laughing throughout the entire movie, especially during the surreal sight of Sir Michael Caine atop a giant bee, or consistently facing off against the might of Johnson. In fact, despite Caine’s clear desire to pay for an extension to his house, he does seem to have fun with the role, and more surprisingly has a proper part for the duration of the movie. I was perfectly prepared for a brief cameo at the end.

Still, if there’s one reason to watch this film, it’s the big man himself.

Dwayne Johnson has always kept one hand in the kids movie jar, regardless of how many times it’s been shut on his fingers, yet I admire his tenacity and ability to walk from the extreme gory violence of Doom , straight into the super sugary world of Hannah Montana. Don’t get me wrong, I was the first person to rejoice when his involvement in both Faster and Fast Five were announced, and if I had my way he’d be confined only to action movies.

Yet maybe that’s a little selfish – surely every generation deserves some of The Rock in their lives? I’m almost certain that there’s a mathematical equation for how much better he makes a movie, just by appearing, he even proved a bright spot in the otherwise wonky You Again .

The man just radiates charisma with an uncanny ease and charm, which makes him a much more suitable fit for both adult action movies and children’s entertainment, unlike some of his predecessors. What’s more, his comic timing simply shines in Journey 2 . For anyone, like me, who mostly wants to see the film off as a Johnson completist, there are some truly great moments.

Have you ever wondered what paternal advice from The Rock about relationships would be like? Wonder no more, as the hysterical sight of cherry bouncing, pec flexes in full 3D reveal all. Ever wanted to see the big man play a ukulele while singing? Done. In fact stay for the end credits and you’ll get even more of him singing, all to the backing of a big band. It’s a sound so glorious I may have to take a pregnancy test in the morning.

Even the 3D was an unexpected delight, providing plenty of theme park style moments to the effects, though scenes might prove a little too intense for the very young, as giant eels, spiders and lizards all make an appearance.

Despite the odd scare though kids should love it, with adults having plenty of surreal moments of inspired lunacy to keep them amused. And Journey 2 ? Against what you might be expecting, it turns out to be a visually rich and thoroughly entertaining ride.

#7 –  Love’s Christmas Journey (2012)

Love's Christmas Journey

It was really hard to decide where to put this movie since it has characters that are barely mentioned or not mentioned at all in any of the other movies. I decided to put it here because it makes the most sense character-wise since all the movies that follow this have Belinda in them. You may wish to watch it last or watch it separately, at Christmas time.

Main Characters –

Ellie Davis King (Clark and Marty’s daughter, not mentioned in the films but in the book Love’s Enduring Promise) & Aaron Davis (Clark and Marty’s daughter, seen in the movie Love’s Enduring Promise), both half-siblings of Missy (daughter of Clark & Ellen, who dies in Love’s Everlasting Courage)

Summary – Inspired by the best-selling “Love Comes Softly” book franchise written by Janette Oke, the first-ever uplifting, almost 3 hours, Christmas story in the series.

While still mourning the loss of her husband and daughter (neither her husband nor daughter are in any other movies), recently widowed Ellie Davis King visits her brother Aaron Davis and his children for Christmas.

Ellie agrees to watch Aaron’s children when he has to leave town. When a fire is set, Ellie works with a handsome deputy to clear a friends name and learns that if she can trust her faith, this Christmas may bring more miracles than she hoped.

#8 –  Love’s Unending Legacy (2007)

Loves Unending Legacy

Is it any Good?  Bear-ometer score: 75% like it

Mommy bear’s family movie review –this is not my favorite of the series but i still liked it a lot. it has a cute and precious storyline and makes it intriguing to watch. this movie is sweet and shows another great side to love.

Main Characters – Missie Davis LaHaye & Son Mattie LaHaye – Belinda Marshall, Jacob Marshall – Zach Tyler

Summary – Missie LaHaye bids a reluctant goodbye at the grave of her late husband Willie, who died two years previously in the line of duty as the sheriff of Tettsford Junction. Even after giving up her job as the town schoolteacher, Missie has found running the ranch on her own overwhelming, so she has resigned herself to letting her son Jeff and his new bride take control of it jointly with her brothers Aaron and Arnie.

Missie and her ten-year-old son Mattie travel back to her hometown to live near the farm of her parents, Clark and Marty Davis.. Certain she will never find love again.

Missie redirects her feelings and when the “orphan train” arrives in town, she adopts Belinda, a feisty young teenager who’s arrived with a secret. As Missie struggles with raising Belinda, she finds she is falling for the local sheriff who might be the only man who can help her save Belinda….and herself.

#9 –  Love’s Unfolding Dream (2007)

Love's Unfolding Dream

Is it any Good?  Bear-ometer score: 80% like it

Mommy bear’s family movie review – this is a cute film from the love comes softly series. there is a lot of determination and dedication shown by the main characters and not to mention some fun romance to go along with it. it is fun to watch the story unfold as you wonder what will happen next..

Main Characters – Belinda Marshall LaHaye Tyler – Drew Simpson

Summary – Missie’s (Erin Cottrell) adopted daughter Belinda (Scout Taylor-Compton) is determined to become a doctor, but despite her dedication and ability, Doc Jackson (Robert Pine) believes women should stay at home – and so does Belinda’s suitor, Drew Simpson (Patrick Levis)!

But with faith and hard work, Belinda begins winning the hearts and minds of everyone around her, including a wealthy dowager (Nancy Linehan Charles), who just might help make Belinda’s dreams come true in this satisfying family drama that also stars Samantha Smith and Dale Midkiff.

#10 –  Love Takes Wing (2009)

Love Takes Wing

Mommy Bear’s Family Movie Review –This movie is great for learning and seeing a good example of faith and hope when you endure and keep trying.

Main Characters – Belinda Marshall LaHaye Tyler Simpson

Summary – Still as feisty as ever, Belinda Simpson is now a doctor in a small Missouri town where an unknown plague is spreading fear and resentment among the townspeople. One local resident thinks the illness was spread from the town orphanage and wants to see it shut down.

Belinda struggles to make sense of the disease and God’s plan for the beleaguered town. But with the support of Lee Owens, the town’s handsome young blacksmith and her best friend, Belinda learns that if she can rely on faith and love then everything else may just fall into place!

#11 –  Love Finds a Home (2009)

Love Finds A Home

Is it any Good?  Bear-ometer score: 76% like it

Mommy bear’s family movie review –this one is a little bit more boring than the others in the series in my opinion but i still enjoyed it. the storyline is not as dynamic as the rest of it is..

Main Characters – Belinda Marshall LaHaye Tyler Simpson Owens

Summary – The eight compelling film based on Janette Oke’s acclaimed Love Comes Softly novel series stars Sarah Jones as Dr. Belinda Owens, a young woman with a loving husband (Jordan Bridges) and a rewarding career. But when Belinda’s pregnant friend Annie (Haylie Duff) comes to stay, Belinda must come to grips with her own inability to conceive.

And when Annie’s meddlesome mother-in-law (Oscar Winner Patty Duke) gives Belinda advice about her medical practice. Belinda looks to a higher power for strength, wisdom and even diplomacy in this riveting installment of the popular, uplifting films about the enduring power of love and faith.

You forgot the last movie Love's Christmas Journey. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Love%27s_Christmas_Journey

September 18, 2012 at 11:17 pm

Thanks for the heads-up. I did not include it since it is not on DVD yet, but looks like it's coming out on 10/30/12 so I'll order it and get it on our site when it comes out.

I don’t have the dvd’s, but I’ve watched them several times. It would be nice if the hallmark channel would play all of them and in order. Have any pull with them? Thanks

' src=

June 29, 2015 at 8:52 pm

Unfortunately, no. I wish they would do the same thing!

' src=

July 21, 2018 at 10:56 pm

On this movie Haley Duff’s character was pregnant. She then qent to be with her husband before the birth of her baby. Lillian was adopted from the orphanage on this movie. She wasn’t grown up. Also it ended with Belinda getting married. She wasnt pregnant. There is another movie out there somewhere. I remember seeing it several years ago. Lillian was probably 16. Belinda was pregnant. They lived in a white house. I think Belinda and a boyfriend went in a cave and started caving in. She and the boyfriend were rescued by her adopted Dad. Does anyone remember what I’m talking about?

July 21, 2018 at 10:59 pm

I accidentally typed Belinda. It should be Lillian and her boyfriend went in a cave or something similar to one.

I agree, I would love to see them in order, to make more sense of the story he is trying to portray, I loves these shows but would like to see them in order and WITHOUT Commercials. Also I saw them on TBN and they are selling them which I thinks sucks.

I am not sure what you mean by “they are selling them.” Could you elaborate?

Love’s Christmas Journey comes sometime after Love’s Unending Legacy and around the time of Love’s Unfolding Dream since Aaron and Ellie are Clark and Marty’s children (married in Love Comes Softly) and Missy is older than Aaron by 10-12 years (Belinda in Unfolding Dream is Missy’s adopted daughter). Hope that helps.

' src=

January 10, 2016 at 9:46 pm

I thought marty and clarke had two son’s. Aaron who Marty was pregnant with when her husband Aaron died and another son who is “Loves enduring promise”? I did not remember that they had a girl (ellie). Can anyone clear up?

' src=

August 21, 2016 at 3:46 pm

Me either I’ve watched all except this one

July 21, 2018 at 9:23 pm

Clark snd Missy had 2 boys. The first one was by her husband that died then they had a boy together.

' src=

December 21, 2016 at 9:35 pm

I believe in the books series they had a daughter named Ellie =)

' src=

April 17, 2020 at 5:40 am

The movies are quite different from the books. I think the titles are in the same order as the books, but there are a lot of differences in the story line.

' src=

October 17, 2020 at 6:36 pm

Yes the difference are vastly different! In my opinion so different that they are barely related. Same time period and some similar names but other than that they don’t go together. I like the movies but can’t think of them as the books turned into movies. Even the movies seem a bit disjointed.

' src=

March 27, 2021 at 5:51 am

' src=

July 2, 2017 at 7:30 pm

Clark had a daughter by his first wife..his first wife died ND then he met soon to to be second wife who was married too..and her husband died. She was pregnant by her first husband had a boy..then she had another baby boy by Clark her second husband..

' src=

July 25, 2017 at 4:58 am

Ellie was in the book series but not the movie. It gets confusing. Hope this answers your question.

' src=

August 3, 2017 at 2:06 am

I was also wondering who Ellie was also, when Missy met Willy, Clarke and Marty had 2 sons?

' src=

August 19, 2017 at 3:56 am

in the book Marty has the son of her first husband, then a son and a daughter with Clark. In the movies they change Willie’s background to add more drama and they neglect to add Marty & Clarks adopted daughters.

' src=

September 28, 2018 at 8:52 pm

Please forgive me if I’m wrong. I got interested in the series when Hallmark showed several of them on s Saturday a few weeks ago. I haven’t seen all of them yet. I have ordered the DVD’s. In one of the movies I watched Marty and Clark had two sons and the daughter that they lost due to crib death. Then the local pastor talks her in to adopting an older daughter. Afterwards they find out that the girl has a brother given to another abusive family. Anyway they eventually get him away from the family. I’m sorry but I don’t remember all the names.

' src=

December 2, 2019 at 2:47 pm

They did not state that the last child after Aaron was a boy. The child never spoke in the movie and the child’s name was never mentioned. It could have been a girl. Remember Missy as a child, she dressed in boys clothes. Also the boy Marty had from her first husband did not die. She named him after her first husband. He is the child that caused Clark’s accident with the ax on his leg.

' src=

April 12, 2020 at 12:25 am

Marty had Aaron, from her late husband. Clark delivered and raised him. Clark had Missy, from his late wife Ellen. Clark and Marty has another boy; which they named Arnie. He does speak a few lines in the movie, Love’s Enduring Promise, then you never hear him mentioned again.

' src=

February 27, 2022 at 9:06 pm

Ellie was adopted

' src=

July 5, 2021 at 8:54 pm

I believe the second child’s name is Ernie, not Ellie. He is the direct child of Clark and Marty after their marriage. He appears in Love’s Enduring Promise. Patrick 😊

' src=

August 11, 2018 at 3:46 am

Please Note: Number 9 and Number 10 came out last in production but if you want to watch them in the order of the story line and what comes first in the order of time then you must start with no#9 listed here as it is number #1 in the story. Then watch #10 listed here next which is the 2nd DVD in the story. Then the rest of the order here is correct because their listing of no#1 Love comes softly is 3rd in the story line. Love comes Softly was the first book written and most of us read it and fell in love with the story. And each year or so the Author would come out with another book; usually of the next generation. After the last DVD in the series; Love finds a Home, The Public Loved the Story so much that Janette Oke finally went back and wrote about the past lives of the 2 main characters that started in her first book Love comes Softly. So those are Love Begins and then Love’s everlasting courage. That should be watched before Love comes Softly. As far as Loves Christmas Journey…i would watch that last. You can kept reading the many comments but i can assure you my comment is the real deal. I have all 11 DVDs and all the books and plan to past them down in my family after I’m dress and gone. I’m 65 yrs old and have been enjoying these since i was a young mother. GOD BLESS , ENJOY!

' src=

September 19, 2018 at 8:39 pm

Pamela, That is awesome! I watched “Love Comes Softly” on Hallmark Channel last night. (I recorded it and got too busy to watch it a couple of weeks ago when it was on.) I knew of the book and remembered it as I watched the movie because years ago my younger sister passed all her Janette Oake books on to me after she read them. Anyway, I decided last night to share these movies (the whole series) with my soon to be 11 year old granddaughter. (I also have to look and see if I still have the books in my book collection – probably do!)

I am a couple of years older than you and still enjoy a good, Godly love story. This is why I want to share it with my granddaughter! Thanks for sharing – it blessed my heart to know there were others in my age group watching these movies. I pray they have a wonderful impact on my granddaughter!

' src=

February 3, 2021 at 7:18 pm

Putting #9 and #10 at the beginning makes no sense! They are about Clark and Marty’s adopted granddaughter. To put them at the beginning before Clark and Marty even meet is illogical!

' src=

May 24, 2021 at 4:18 am

Thank you for clearing that up. It was confusing to have the #9 character have the same name as the #1 character and HIS daughter is also named Missy! NOW it all makes since!! My husband and I love these sweet Christian movies and will be sad to get to the end. I guess all we lack is the Christmas movie. Thank you again!

July 22, 2019 at 3:17 am

It’s listed. It’s number 7. I love the movies. I’ve watched them so many times.

' src=

November 6, 2021 at 11:06 pm

Its number 7 on the list above

' src=

January 4, 2023 at 9:52 am

It’s mentioned earlier. I think #8

September 18, 2012 at 12:29 am

Love's Christmas Journey takes place after Love Finds a Home.

' src=

December 19, 2016 at 10:01 pm

You are correct on that!

November 14, 2012 at 6:19 am

I haven't watched any of these yet because it seemed impossible to figure out the order, and I'm picky that way. Thank you so much for doing this!

November 24, 2012 at 11:37 pm

the order is definitely confusing! I'm not sure the order listed here is correct? Can anyone help? I have 10 DVDs in the series…. now I found Loves Beginning and Love's Christmas Journey…. so… Is Loves Beginning the 1st and not Love Comes Softly?

November 28, 2012 at 11:30 pm

Yes. The order is very confusing. The first three came out last but are actually the first ones in the series. Love's Christmas Journey is first (just came out on DVD about a month ago) then Love Begins and so on.

' src=

March 28, 2016 at 1:30 am

loves christmas journey is not first, as it is about Aaron which is Marty’s son from her first marriage, that she has in love comes softly, so it would most likely be last or around the same time as the last one which is love finds a home.

July 22, 2019 at 3:22 am

It should be after loves abiding joy. I wish Clark and Missy were in the latter movie

' src=

May 20, 2017 at 1:31 am

If you go by the way they came out, the order is: 1.Love comes softly. 2:Loves enduring promise 3:Loves Long journey 4: Loves Abiding Joy 5:Loves unending Legacy. 6:Loves Unfolding Dream 7: Love Takes Wing. 8:Love finds a home 9:Love Begins. 10:Loves Everlasting Courage 11:Loves Christmas Journey. I bought them as they came out in this order.

' src=

September 12, 2021 at 3:38 am

We have watched 2 of these movies and I really liked them, so glad you put them in order for my husband and I. Thanks

November 29, 2012 at 5:05 pm

SO: There are 11 total in the Love Comes Softly Series?

' src=

December 2, 2016 at 4:37 pm

I have just purchased the 10 DVD set of “Love Comes Softly”. Now I want to purchase the “Loves Christmas Journey”. I have fallen in Love with this series ans wish to find out if there is a listing of anymore in this same art of watching and the older ones that take part in this age or Year. I am 89 years of age and I find these type of film to be the finiest ever printed in to film. The younger Generation can learn much from the way of life in those days and what they had to do to get along and it was fun time too. Thank You for any and all information you can give to me. I am late at finding this site and much has gone on before my seeing this site. Please excuse my intelligence on this must wonderful Site. Please keep up your good work for all of us.

August 3, 2017 at 2:13 am

If you watch Love Begins, (1st movie) that is when they introduce Clarke Davis, he ends up marring Ellen, his first wife. Then comes Loves Everlasting Courage. Ellen and Clarke have a daughter Missy. Then the story goes to Love Comes Softly after Clarke lost his wife Ellen, Missy is about 8 when Marty comes into the picture.

February 3, 2021 at 7:26 pm

I totally agree!

March 12, 2013 at 10:46 pm

Thanks for the list. I haven’t seen half of these. Guess I have something to look for.

March 13, 2013 at 4:46 am

Thanks for the list. I haven't seen half of these. Guess I have something to look for.

March 24, 2013 at 12:25 pm

This order is wrong. Movies in a series are meant to be viewed chronologically which is how the writer/director intends it for the audience. It is impossible to look at movies in your order, because while we were viewing Love Comes Softly in 2003, Christmas Journey was not created until a decade later. Christmas Journey has to be viewed last… that is the point of creating what is known as a “prequel”.

March 24, 2013 at 6:03 pm

i love this series! and yes this MUST MUST be watched in order

March 28, 2013 at 6:00 pm

This list is meant for those people who buy the movies and want to watch them in the order that they happened in the character's lives, not production order. If you want to watch them in production order, we have the release date so you can easily figure that out. Thanks for stopping by!

' src=

August 10, 2014 at 3:49 am

Vishwanath Samsundar- Sorry to tell you but this order listed here is correct- They just weren’t produced that way. I’ve watched all of these on numerous occasions and own several.

August 3, 2017 at 2:15 am

Who is Ellie? In the Christmas Journey…I haven’t seen that one yet, but can’t seem to be able to figure out where she fits in?

' src=

March 31, 2019 at 5:37 am

She was Marty and Clark’s daughter in the books. I like the movies but I am tired of all the husbands dying. They didn’t in the books. Belinda was not adopted but Clark and Marty’s youngest daughter. The movies have changed the family members around and changed story lines. I whole heartedly encourage reading the book series it was my absolute favorite growing up and I made sure I got it on kindle so I know I can read it at any time.

March 26, 2013 at 4:19 am

I love these movies Love Comes Softly. Can someone email me the names and order the movies comes in so I can make sure I have them all. My email is [email protected] . Thanks Mary

Rebecca the list you posted is correct right? I remember watching several of them it went way back to before Missy was born so it was kinda confusing. I love these movies. Will there be any more in the future to add to the Love Saga?

May 2, 2013 at 8:00 am

I appreciated your listing all the Janette Oke movies in order! Thanks–these movies have really given me a much needed lift!

May 2, 2013 at 2:00 pm

May 14, 2013 at 12:08 pm

loves christmas journey is not the first one. its one of the last arron is marty’s son which she dosen’t have till she marries clark. but love begins and loves everlasting courage are a prequal to love comes softly and are before marty and clark meet.

November 4, 2013 at 9:38 pm

Love’s Christmas Journey takes place after Love Finds a Home.

November 5, 2013 at 4:38 am

Love's Christmas journey cant be first its about Aaron, Marty's son so how can it be first? Love Begins is first, Love's Christmas journey is or should be last. I am going to keep searching, I have all the movies and would also like to know the order.

January 7, 2014 at 7:55 pm

1.Love Comes Softly is first,2. Love's Enduring Promise, 3.Love's Long Journey,4. Love's Abiding Joy,5. Loves, Unending Legacy,6. Love's Unfolding Dream, 7.Love Takes Wing,8.Love Finds A Home, 9. Love Begins.10. Love's Everlasting Courage, 11. Love's Christmas Journey. I have all of them but the last two. I Love them and watch them often.

I don’t understand how everyone can say that Love comes softly is first…how do you think the whole sequence started.. with Clark Davis and Ellen Barlow..which afterwards they got married and missy was born… now the story goes on after that..

January 7, 2014 at 8:28 pm

Love that series but only have first 3 hint hint my husband

January 8, 2014 at 12:24 am

I have 9 of them.

You forgot the last movie Love’s Christmas Journey. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Love%27s_Christmas_Journey

June 2, 2014 at 8:46 pm

They have the order right except for the first one. Ellie and Aaron are Marty and Clark's kids, so that movie would have to be sometime after Love Comes Softly. These movies have the characters and the timeline all screwed up. The books make more sense. But I still love these movies.

My daughter and I are reading the books. We just read the movie synopsis that says that Willie dies. My daughter doesn’t even want to watch the movies anymore. Why would they stray that far from the original story line? Then she adopts the girl who is her sister in the books? I do not understand why they made such major changes in the story line. Disappointed 🙁

YESSS!! Deb M.. I have them all and all of the books. Watching them today.. I didn’t want to argue with anyone or hurt anyone’s feelings by sounding rude. But YOU ARE CORRECT!! (smiley face) Thank you for clearing this up for everyone..

I agree. I have researched this for years and this is the way i watch them. If you what them how they came out then you will just get confused!!

So i’m confused…where is the Christmas one supposed to go in the story?

I just recently purchased Loves Comes Softly, and my mother (91) and I watched it about 5 times, plus. Then I saw 4 other movies from this series and purchased them and now we are watching them. The order is confusing, but when I found your list of the correct order that was so helpful, now I can tell my children what I need from my Christmas list.

I just finish Volume 1 & 2 of the Love Comes Softly series by Janette Oke. I just read a comment from Yvonne Hale from Dec Dec 8th 2015, saying they found 4 more movies from this series. I would really like to find these DVDs. Is there any way I can find out the names and where to find the rest of this series??

Where does ellie come in when did clark and marty have her? Thought the only girl was missy….

' src=

January 10, 2016 at 8:10 pm

You commentators are largely correct on “Loves Christmas Journey”. The story occurs somewhere between “Love Takes Wing” and “Love Finds a Home” but is not directly related to these characters. Aaron Davis and Ellie King in this story are the half-brother and sister of Missie Davis and the natural children of Clark and Marty. The story, like “Love Begins” and “Love’s Everlasting Courage” is not written by Janet Oke. It should appear last in your published order for viewing. Maybe there is confusion over Ellie. She is not the Ellie who marries Clark Davis, but his daughter.

You can date the movies roughly from the 1850’s gold rush (Love Begins) and the dates on the crosses at the start of “Love’s Unending Legacy” (Sonny Huff – 1879, Kathy LaHaye – 1885 – Willie LaHaye – 1886)

I hope this helps

July 23, 2017 at 11:07 pm

Uh, Aaron is the baby who was born at the end of Love Comes Softly. His father was Aaron, who died, making Marty a widow, who then married Clark. He was an adult in Love’s Christmas Journey in 2011 (8 years after he was born in the 2003 movie! ). Clark and Marty had another son, Arnie, in the second movie. I don’t know who Ellie is, from Love’s Christmas Journey. Maybe Clark and Marty had another daughter after Missy married Willie and they moved away? Is she mentioned in any of the movies when Clark and/or Marty visit or write to Missy? And I always wondered what happened to Ellen’s younger sister, Cassie, after Ellen married Clark in Love Begins. (I’ve seen them all lots of times on Hallmark and TBN!)

July 23, 2017 at 11:12 pm

I meant in the movie made second (2004), Love’s Enduring Promise, not the second chronologically. So confusing!

p.s. I’ve only seen the one where Willie dies two times, several years apart. I don’t like that one.

i like all of them ,, i hope she can make more 🙂

Thanks for the list! Exactly what I wanted.

It made me laugh that you find the last one boring – that’s my very favorite! I think it’s hilarious. I guess I like character development more than exciting plot.

' src=

February 23, 2017 at 3:51 pm

What happened to Ellen’s sister, Cassie. She is not mentioned in the next movie after Ellen and Clark at wed.

February 23, 2017 at 3:53 pm

I assume Clark Davis had a son also named Clark Davis, but there is no explanation as to how they became separated.

everyone who left comments said something different about the order of the movies …so I am still very confused ….

' src=

August 5, 2017 at 12:39 am

I just watched in this order..

Love Comes Softly Loves Enduring Promise Loves Long Journey Loves Abiding Joy Loves Unending Legacy Loves Unfolding Dream (it says The sixth installment) in the description.

I’m gonna watch the other 4 now and see if I can figure out the order. I watch it every time it’s on but they haven’t had all 11 on yet. Unless I missed recording them.

' src=

October 20, 2017 at 3:47 pm

My friend recommended these books to me, so I bought part 1 of the collection (books 1-4) but haven’t read them yet. Just last night I found 3 of the movies in a used book store and snatched them up, but had no idea what order they go. Thanks for this page – it will really help me to know in what order to watch the movies as I track them down!

' src=

April 10, 2018 at 4:41 pm

Here is a couple possible ways that I think the order of the movies go. 1. Love Begins; 2. Love’s Everlasting Courage; 3. Love Comes Softly; 4. Love’s Enduring Promise; 5. Love’s Long Journey; 6. Love’s Abiding Joy; 7. Love’s Unending Legacy; 8. Love’s Christmas Journey; 9. Love’s Unfolding Dream; 10. Love Takes Wing; 11. Love Finds a Home; 1. Love Begins; 2. Love’s Everlasting Courage; 3. Love Comes Softly; 4. Love’s Enduring Promise; 5. Love’s Long Journey; 6. Love’s Abiding Joy; 7. Love’s Unending Legacy; 8. Love’s Unfolding Dream; 9. Love Takes Wing; 10. Love Finds a Home. Then Similar to /Inspired by movies Above is Love’s Christmas Journey. My sisters and I have been trying to figure the exact order of the movies and we have come to the conclusion that maybe Love’s Christmas Journey doesn’t fit into the order of the rest of the movies so it should be watched at a different time then the rest of them. If one of these orders is not correct then I am still very confused. So if someone could let me known what you think that would be great!

' src=

September 18, 2018 at 5:31 pm

Hi there… took me a little while to figure them out as well but I think viewers have a better knowledge of the order than the producers or TV networks. I agree with your second version and that Christmas Journey is not part of the series- Aaron would be a character but his sister was Missy, not Ellie. He was named after his mother’s first husband, & his biological father(Marty was married to Aaron when he died in Comes Softly). I am rewatching all the movies right now and started with Christmas Journey, just finished Long Journey, so the first few are fresh in my mind.

July 24, 2018 at 6:07 pm

Sorry, everyone! I just went through and changed the order of the movies and now I’m pretty sure I have them in the correct order. I got my information from the link at the bottom of the page from Hallmark Channel. They should know the order but I did find they don’t know as much as they should. They forget to include one of the movies. I researched IMDB and found where it fits in. Enjoy the movies!

September 17, 2018 at 7:22 pm

WOW! From the first time I pulled this page up until now, approximately 6 months time span, SOMEONE has changed the “order” of the list of these great movies! You can’t just do that – Love’s Everlasting, the one SOMEONE has changed to #-10 HAS be number ONE because it STARTS the series with Clark and his FIRST wife. My question is, WHERE does Christmas Journey fit in? It’s obviously not the first but not the last either as Aaron, one of the main characters is the baby from Love Comes Softly(named after his deceased father) after Clark remarries but Ellie was not Aaron’s sister, Missy was…. so was this a production error or just an extra movie??? And this also would have meant Missy had remarried a third time from her sheriff husband, had a third child(WHEN DID ALL THIS HAPPEN??!!) YES, I HAVE WATCHED THESE MOVIES A LOT AND AS I AM NOW AN ENGLISH MAJOR, AM VERY INTO PROOFING/EDITING….

September 17, 2018 at 7:42 pm

Oh my! And I have to admit I am wrong…Love Begins HAS to be the first because that’s when Clark and Ellen first meet- then Everlasting Journey, followed by Comes Softly…..then etc etc. I still think Christmas Journey IS NOT part of the series but from the same producers, writers and same storyline.

September 18, 2018 at 5:39 pm

Lots of opinions but I guess when you watch these movies so many times, one would become somewhat of an expert(of what I’m not sure), but seems like I notice something more or different every time I watch. So, it would start with Love Begins, Everlasting Coursge, Comes Softly, Enduring Promise, Long Journey, Abiding Joy, Unending Legacy, Unfolding Dream, Takes Wing, & Finds a Home(all Love, of course). The Christmas Journey is not part of the series but does have some of the same characters, follows a split storyline, etc.. I have to say, these movies have a calming influence on my mind when I’m stressed- glad they came out on DVD!

' src=

September 19, 2018 at 4:19 am

From what I’ve seen, April has the perfect list according to storyline. Even though Love Begins & Love’s Everlasting Courage were produced last (2011), they were written to begin the series. After the 1st two, the rest were produced from 2003 to 2009, except for Love’s Christmas Journey=2012. Clear as mud?? Anyway, very worthwhile TV watching. Yay, Hallmark! PS FYI: Some movies are shown on Hallmark Channel & some on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. Do check the guide…

September 20, 2018 at 6:58 pm

And is it just me it seems to me like they like to play some of them a lot and then some of them hardly ever. I’m sure that’s partly because some really aren’t as good as the others . . .

' src=

November 1, 2019 at 1:09 am

So where do you watch the Christmas movie in the series? I am going to binge watch them with my kids but it’s been a while so now I lost track of the order and I just ordered the Xmas dvd that I was missing. I know it’s been a year but I appreciate it. 🙂

September 20, 2018 at 7:00 pm

OK. Check out the list now and see if you think I got it right. I was confused there for a bit. It makes it especially confusing when they use different characters for the same people and they just play them so randomly on Hallmark.

September 20, 2018 at 7:56 pm

AARON DAVIS AND ELLIE KING IN THIS STORY ARE THE HALF-BROTHER AND SISTER OF MISSIE DAVIS AND THE NATURAL CHILDREN OF CLARK AND MARTY. THE STORY, LIKE “LOVE BEGINS” AND “LOVE’S EVERLASTING COURAGE” IS NOT WRITTEN BY JANET OKE. DON’T BE CONFUSED BY ELLIE. SHE IS NOT THE ELLIE WHO MARRIES CLARK DAVIS, BUT HIS DAUGHTER. This is the plot summary for Love’s Christmas Journey… not sure where it came from because if Ellie were really one of Clark & Marty Davis’ natural children, I think she would have shown up in an earlier movie, such as Love’s Unending Legacy OR Love’s Unfolding Dream. Also, Aaron is Marty’s natural child but not Clark’s- Aaron’s father died at the beginning of Love Comes Softly, that’s who he’s named after “Aaron Luke, his father and mine” Marty tells Clark the day he’s born. Marty and Clark do have a son together but his name is Arnie. Ok, this has made me tired and I need a nap… The movies are all good and Hallmark is remiss in playing them all together when they show “marathons”.

' src=

November 4, 2018 at 11:55 pm

read the book series I don’t understand how anyone could get things so messed up. the baby who died was Kathy and she was not clark and marty’s baby but willie and missy’s. also missy is the one who adopted belinda who was the orphan from the train and her brother eventually. yes clark and martie did have two sons. in the love’s enduring promise aaron who is the son from aaron and marty then there is arnie who is the son of clark and marty. in that series they have three children.

' src=

February 27, 2019 at 9:29 pm

Thank you SOOO MUCH, this has been a huge help. I also agree with all of your comments on each mobie, the zingers and not-so zingers in the series but all wonderful movies about strong faith 🙂

March 10, 2019 at 12:03 am

Yep. It’s an awesome series!

Aaron the son of Marty and Aaron in Love comes Softly, I assumed got married as he has 2 children in loves Christmas Journey. What happened to his wife? and is their courtship and her death addressed in the book series?

What happened to Ellen’s sister Cassie?

' src=

November 12, 2020 at 11:54 am

Sorry, but if you read the books you know that they are in the right order, to begin with, the way the movies were made. As a writer myself I know we sometimes go back after and do a backstory to fill you in like them remembering where certain things happened. It doesn’t make the order wrong with the way the books or movies were made. Think of it as someone coming into your life at one point then later you telling them about your parents’ or grandparents’ lives before you. It doesn’t mean that they should’ve told you about them before you learn about them.

Where Was Journey 2 The Mysterious Island Filmed?

Arka Mukhopadhyay of Where Was Journey 2 The Mysterious Island Filmed?

Brad Peyton helmed the blockbuster adventure movie ‘Journey 2: The Mysterious Island,’ the second installment in the Jules Verne-inspired ‘Journey’ series. Upon discovering a signal from Sean’s grandfather Alexander Anderson, Sean and his stepdad, Hank, set out for a sprawling adventure filled with lush greenery and uncanny creatures. They arrive in the far-flung island country of Palau, regroup with Alexander thanks to a cyclone, and embark on a search for the lost city of Atlantis.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson delivers a hilarious performance alongside Michael Caine , Luis Guzmán, Vanessa Hudgens , and Josh Hutcherson. Most of the story unveils in the turbulent pacific, while the finale takes place on a dreamy island. However, you may seek to identify the locations where the movie was filmed. If that is the case, let us divulge before you everything we know.

Journey 2 The Mysterious Island Filming Locations

‘Journey 2: The Mysterious Island’ was filmed in locations in and around the U.S., especially in Hawaii. Filming commenced on October 25, 2010, and was wrapped up by December 15 of the same year. Let us now take you to the specific locations where the movie was filmed!

O’ahu, Hawaii

Most parts of the movie were filmed in Hawaii, possibly including the Atlantis scenes. The director took his team to Kualoa Ranch, a 4,000-acre vast nature reserve, event venue, cattle ranch, and most importantly, a famous filming destination in Hawaii. Situated at 49560 Kamehameha Highway in the community of Ka’a’awa, at around 24 miles from Honolulu, the ranch is a popular tourist destination in the city.

The reserve has been home to more than 79 movie productions, including blockbusters such as ‘Jurassic Park,’ ‘ 50 First Dates ,’ and ‘Pearl Harbor.’ Look for the scene where they are heading towards the submarine, at around 46 minutes mark. You can locate the open space where filming of ‘ Jurassic Park ‘ took place.

Several scenes were also filmed at the Waimea Bay and its adjacent Waimea Bay Beach Park, located at 61-31 Kamehameha Highway in the community of Haleiwa along the north shore of O’ahu. Due to its situation at the mouth of the Waimea River and the proximity of several tourist places, Waimea Bay sees footfall all around the year. In the summer, you can go out surfing, while in the winter, you can enjoy the view of the towering waves with a bonfire.

Wilmington, North Carolina

The production team carried out several scenes in a controlled studio environment. The movie presumably contains several CGI-aided sequences, and the scenes were possibly developed in a full-service production facility in the community of Wilmington off the coast of North Carolina. EUE / Screen Gems Studios, a movie production facility located at 1223 North 23rd Street, lent its premises to film scenes.

The 50-acre expansive studio facility features ten fully equipped soundstages and a back-lot to tackle any global-scale production. Since its inception in 1985, more than 400 titles have come out of the studio. Movies filmed in the studio include blockbusters such as ‘ The Conjuring ‘ and ‘Iron Man 3.’ ‘Iron Man 3’ was one of the most significant projects the studio had ever seen, with filming taking place in all the ten soundstages simultaneously.

New York City, New York

Lastly, a few scenes at the movie’s beginning were filmed on location in New York City. New York City remains one of the most iconic places to shoot a film due to the city’s cultural significance. From Martin Scorsese’s ‘ Taxi Driver ‘ to Woody Allen ‘s ‘ Manhattan ,’ the towering landscape of New York City has been featured in timeless classics.

How many journey movies are there?

User Avatar

This movie is loosely (at best) tied to Journey to the Center of the Earth (2008). The character in the movie known as Sean Anderson (played by Josh Hutcherson) is in both movies. He played the son of Trevor Anderson (Brendan Fraser) in Center of the Earth and now the stepson of Hank (Played by The Rock aka Dwayne Johnson ) in Mysterious Island.

See the related link for further information.

yes there was but it was a long time ago and was called A Journey to the Centre of the Earth and Brendan Fraser was in it as the main character

About Journey 2: The Mysterious Island

Journey 2: The Mysterious Island is an exciting and thrilling adventure movie that follows the story of Sean Anderson, a teenager who teams up with his mom’s husband in order to find his missing grandfather on a mythical island. In their search, they embark on a mesmerizing journey filled with unexpected twists and turns that take them across breathtaking landscapes and unimaginable creatures.

Along the way, they also face trying circumstances that call for courage, problem-solving, and collaboration. The mysterious island they find themselves on proves to be full of surprises as they discover secrets that help them make it out alive.

Journey 2: The Mysterious Island features a star-studded cast including Dwayne Johnson, Josh Hutcherson, Luis Guzmán, Michael Caine, Vanessa Hudgens, and Kristin Davis. It’s the follow-up to Journey to the Center of the Earth (2008), which was written by Richard Outten, Brian Gunn, and Mark Gunn.

Journey 2: The Mysterious Island Locations

Journey 2: The Mysterious Island was primarily filmed in Honolulu, Hawaii, home to some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. The picturesque coasts and sweeping landscapes of Oahu provided an awe-inspiring backdrop for the film's scenes. From Diamond Head to Hanauma Bay, Honolulu is a perfect place to bring classic literature, like Jules Verne's Journey to the Center of the Earth, to life onscreen. With its lush jungles and majestic waterfalls, viewers can practically feel as if they are part of the adventure.

A trip to visit locations from Journey 2: The Mysterious Island would be worthwhile for any fan of the film or avid explorer. From Waimanalo Beach Park where much of the movie was shot, to Nuuanu Pali Lookout which served as a breathtakingly beautiful backdrop for several scenes; there are plenty of sights and activities that will transport visitors back into the movie's setting.

Other popular filming locations include Laie Point State Wayside Park and Kualoa Ranch, both of which have appeared in other movies and television shows due to their stunning views. No matter what kind of traveler you might be, a visit to Oahu will be sure to impress you with its diverse landscape and rich culture, all captured beautifully in Journey 2: The Mysterious Island.

An interesting fact about this movie is that it contains various elements from other Jules Verne works including Twenty Thousand Leagues Under The Sea (1870) and Around The World In Eighty Days (1873). Moreover, there are references to other famous works like King Kong (1933), Star Trek (1966), and Clash Of The Titans (1981). By blending these references into one fantastic journey full of imagination and excitement, Journey 2: The Mysterious Island is indeed an amazing cinematic experience!

Sean is arrested scene in Journey 2: The Mysterious Island

New York City, New York, USA

Seventeen-year-old Sean Anderson (Josh Hutcherson), four years after his journey to the center of the earth, finds himself arrested for illegally accessing a satellite control center. He hopes to amplify a coded signal that may have originated from his grandfather, Alexander Anderson (Michael Caine), who has been missing for a long time.

Sean's new stepfather, Hank Parsons (Dwayne Johnson), tries to establish a connection with him by assisting in decoding the signal. This effort leads them to three books, namely, Gulliver's Travels, Treasure Island, and Jules Verne's Mysterious Island.

Situated on the east coast of the United States, New York City, also known as the Big Apple, is among the world's most iconic cities. It is also known as The Empire State and is celebrated for its rich culture, diversity, and history. The city currently houses more than 8 million inhabitants.

Amongst its numerous prominent landmarks is the Statue of Liberty, which France gifted the city as a symbol of democracy and liberty. The Empire State Building is another well-known structure, an imposing skyscraper that provides breathtaking views of the city from its observation deck.

Driving to New York is an option from nearby cities, with several highways that provide convenient access to the city. However, traffic congestion can be heavy at times, specifically during rush hour.

Another way to get to NYC is via train. Amtrak provides train service from other major cities in the United States, with the main train station being Penn Station, situated in Manhattan. Additionally, there are also regional train services including Metro-North Railroad and Long Island Rail Road.

Helicopter scene in Journey 2: The Mysterious Island

Waimea Bay Beach Park, 61-31 Kamehameha Hwy, Haleiwa, HI 96712, United States

Sean, his stepfather Hank, and helicopter pilot Gabato (Luis Guzmán) search for a way to reach the mysterious island. As the trio explores the area, they come across a stunning waterfall that flows into a lagoon. Hank quickly realizes that the waterfall can power their helicopter, which is low on fuel. After charging the helicopter's battery, they continue with their journey.

Located on the North Shore of Oahu in Hawaii, Waimea Bay Beach Park is a truly stunning destination renowned for its crystal-clear waters, golden sand, and world-famous surfing competitions. Nestled amidst lush greenery, this beach park provides a tranquil and serene environment perfect for visitors seeking to revel in the beauty of Hawaii.

It's a popular spot for tourists and locals alike, offering a plethora of recreational activities and breathtaking natural scenery. Aside from surfing, visitors can relish other activities at Waimea Bay Beach Park such as swimming and snorkeling in clear waters teeming with marine life, hiking, picnicking, and sunbathing.

If you have a rental car or your vehicle, you can drive to 61-31 Kamehameha Hwy. Take the H-2 freeway north from Honolulu to Wahiawa and follow the signs to Kamehameha Highway. Turn left on Kamehameha Highway and continue for approximately 15 miles until you reach 61-31 Kamehameha Hwy in Haleiwa.

Riding through the lush forests scene in Journey 2: The Mysterious Island

Kualoa Ranch, 49-560 Kamehameha Hwy, Kaneohe, HI 96744, United States

The Tearsmith : The Biggest Differences Between The New Dark Romance Movie and Bestselling Book

The new film, now streaming on Netflix, is based off of Erin Doom's Italian bestseller of the same name

how many journey 2 movies are there

Ready for the next Twilight ?

Erin Doom's Italian bestseller The Tearsmith has arrived stateside to give the popular franchise a run for its money. The spine-tingling romance story follows Nica and Rigel, both orphans at The Grave who are adopted by the same family. While Nica is as naive and innocent as a harmless butterfly, Rigel is often compared to the volatility of a wolf.

Unbeknownst to Nica, Rigel has been harboring an undying love for her since the day she stepped into the orphanage at 5 years old. Though she's terrified of his aggressive nature, Nica can't help but be intrigued by Rigel's hidden vulnerability and a bond begins to form between the two — hindered only by the fact that they're about to be siblings.

Now adapted into a movie streaming on Netflix, The Tearsmith , which was filmed in Italian with English subtitles, is spreading to new audiences looking for their next romantic fix.

Here's everything to know about the differences between the book and the movie adaptation. Some light spoilers ahead, for those who haven't yet discovered the magic of either version.

The abusive matron is still at the orphanage

In the book, Nica and Rigel often talk about their complicated history with the matron from their childhood, Margaret Stoker. While Nica was brutally abused by the matron, Rigel was her favorite and the only child spared from her abuse — which only exacerbated his feelings of isolation and shame.

In the movie, the same relationship with the matron exists, but unlike the book where she was replaced by Mrs. Fridge when Nica was 12, Margaret was still the matron when Nica and Rigel were adopted.

Nica and Rigel's relationship developed more quickly in the movie

Netflix/Youtube

The novel is a whopping 550 pages and it isn't until around halfway through that a physical relationship starts between Nica and Rigel, after much tension and build-up. However, given the runtime of the movie is an hour and 45 minutes, the relationship is sped along much faster onscreen.

Rigel is prone to headaches and severe fevers and, early in the book, he experiences a fever that causes him to pass out, leaving Nica to take care of him while their adoptive parents are out of town. While the same scene happens in the movie, it is also the first time Nica and Rigel get together physically — whereas in the book, Rigel is asleep and Nica merely sees his vulnerability for the first time.

Chaos ensues at a school dance rather than at a party

There is a raving animosity between Lionel, who has a romantic interest in the clueless Nica, and Rigel, who doesn't trust his rival (and let's face it, he's jealous). In the book, the rivalry culminates in the final scene where Rigel and Lionel get into a massive fight.

However, in the movie, it all comes to a head during the climax of the film at the school dance — which does not happen in the book. Instead, a similar chaotic scene happens when Nica attends Lionel's party, where a drunk Lionel is aggressive toward her.

At the dance, Lionel is the sober one while Rigel fends off an inebriated Nica. A near-fatal incident that occurs at the end of the book happens directly after this scene — after Nica and Rigel have sex for the first time (which is also not when it happens in the book!).

Though Asia is a minor character in the book, she is important to the story as Nica stands up to her and proves that she's not there to replace her adoptive parents' deceased son, Alan, but rather to bring them new joy. Asia, who was in love with Alan before his death, has a hard time accepting her and is brusque and rude to her.

In the film adaptation, Asia's character is the same but she is not developed and is only in two scenes: the initial scene where she reacts poorly to Nica's presence and the final scene where she accepts Nica. Her friendship with Adeline is ignored and her story as a law student (and Adaline's love story) is also not portrayed in the film.

The story has a somewhat different ending

The plot still ends with Nica testifying against Margaret (but no spoilers on the outcome of that testimony!), but it's in a slightly different, more condensed order than the book.

In the book, Nica sits by a comatose Rigel's side for months, telling him stories and attempting to rouse him.

How this dark fairytale come to end? You'll just have to read—and watch—to find out.

10 best dragon's dogma 2 hidden interactions, ranked.

There are many hidden or otherwise hard-to-find interactions throughout the vast world of Dragon's Dogma 2, but some are better than others.

  • Dragon's Dogma 2 offers vast optional content, including a number of important interactions that can be missed entirely.
  • Secrets like counterfeiting and hidden quests enrich the gameplay experience, encouraging exploration beyond the main story.
  • Post-game content, new bosses, and a true ending add depth and challenge to Dragon's Dogma 2 .

There seems to be secrets around every corner in Capcom's Dragon's Dogma 2 . It has a world packed so full of detail that there are many interactions that players will easily miss, which is a testament to the scale of the game. Still, missing out on content is never fun, and DD2 has a great deal of content to offer for those looking to search deeper past its surface and main quest.

[Warning: The following article contains spoilers for Dragon's Dogma 2.]

In typical open-world RPG fashion, Dragon's Dogma 2 has a massive amount of optional content. On top of that, the game is generally pretty obtuse in how it delivers information to the player, and while many side quests are triggered by NPCs seeking out the Arisen, there are plenty of threads to pull that aren't quite as obvious. The countries of Battahl and Vermund harbor many entertaining and interesting hidden interactions that will keep an Arisen traveling from dusk till dawn.

Dragon's Dogma 2 Review: "A Wonderful Journey, & A True Novelty"

10 the jadeite orb, an intro to counterfeiting.

Although there is a counterfeiting system in Dragon's Dogma 2 , a player rarely has a reason to use it. That is until the Arisen arrives in the Checkpoint Town on the border of Battahl and Vermund , where two NPCs will be asking after the Jadeite Orb . The player is not provided with any quest markers as to where to obtain this Orb, despite being so sought after, and requires some investigation (or luck) to find it.

The rewards for this little quest are relatively meek, yet because the Orb is coveted by two NPCs, it can be counterfeited so that both can receive an orb for double the reward . In fact, the local forgery expert will be the one with the quest item in the first place, making it the game's subtle introduction to faking items if the player so desires. Again, this isn't a quest objective. The Arisen only needs to give one of the NPCs the gem, but the game allows the player to be devious in their endeavors.

9 Flamebearer Palace Home

A reward for thwarting an assassination.

Every house can be bought by talking to a specific NPC, but unlike all the other homes, the Flamebearer Palace abode has some prerequisites. First, the Arisen must complete the "Shadowed Prayers" quest , in which they aid the Empress of Battahl by preventing an assassination attempt on her life. Once this quest is completed, the Arisen is considered a friend of Battahl and an ally of their Empress.

After a day or so, the player can return to the Flamebearer Palace. At its entrance, there will be a lone beastren NPC in the long hallway before the stairs . They will state that they wish for the Arisen to purchase a home near the palace to better surround the Empress with allies. As good as a new luxury home is, it will still cost the player 300,000 gold, a steep price considering that the other house in Bakbattahl is only 30,000 gold. Although it looks nicer, the two houses share the same functions.

The Arisen can actually get a free home in Vernworth , at least for a week. Speak to an NPC called Mildred to begin a quest to take care of her home, which can later be bought.

8 Raghnall, The Sellsword

Who doesn't like a good tavern brawl.

Raghnall may not have the popularity of Ulrika, thanks to the latter being on promotional art, but he is certainly one of Dragon's Dogma 2 's most memorable NPCs . Although there is a quest in which he is heavily featured, the player must succeed in the brawl outside Bakbattahl's tavern where the sellsword is first interacted with. This does not have a quest marker and must be either randomly bumped into or sought after from memory.

The Arisen must win their fight in the brawl in order to pique Raghnall's interest. He will introduce himself in a friendly manner, then later feature in the "Tensions on the Highroad" quest once the player receives a request to guide a noble from the Checkpoint Town to Vernworth. What is unique about this quest is that it gives the Arisen a choice between siding with Raghnall or the guards around the noble's oxcart, but this mission won't start unless Raghnall is met first.

7 Myrddin, The Sorcerer Maister

Fancy clothes and a good book can go a long way.

Myrddin is the Sorcerer Maister and very useful for those using the Sorcerer Vocation . He is not a sociable man, however, locking himself in his house in the Checkpoint Town while refusing to see anyone. Without any hints, there is no obvious way to get the sorcerer to talk to the player. What the Arisen has to do is convince him that they are an important person, which can be done by donning the Courtly Clothes set , to which he will invite them inside.

To learn from Myrddin, he will task the Arisen with finding five special books to deliver to him. Outside of learning new spells, the Maister will also give the player the Ares Morpho robe , a powerful torso piece of armor for a Mage or Sorcerer. The player will also receive 11,000 gold, which is an added incentive for those who are not magic users, or do not have Pawns who are Mages or Sorcerers.

The player does not need to deliver all five books to complete the quest, as only three are needed .

6 The Hunt For Ulrika

Where has the archer of melve gone.

Ulrika is featured throughout Dragon's Dogma 2's marketing, yet, after a lesser dragon attacks her village, Melve, she is forced to leave or be arrested by a corrupt official. Lennart, who is somewhat of a father figure to Ulrika, asks the Arisen to look for the archer and return with word from her, but is given no indication of where she went. This can be especially frustrating, given that Melve's Warden is also a romanceable character , yet some players have found themselves stuck here.

Ulrika will flee to Harve , but only if the town has been liberated from its Saurian attackers and given time to rebuild. Once she is interacted with there, not only does it allow the Arisen to begin a courtship with the former Warden, but it also unlocks the "Home is Where the Heart Is" quest . This leads to the liberation of the people of Melve, as well as a high affinity with Lennart, meaning that an Arisen will be in good graces with two NPCs through one questline.

Dragon's Dogma 2 Player Discovers Secret To Unlocking New Areas

5 sigmund, the mystic spearhand, he is the storm that is approaching.

Hybrid Vocations are combinations of two other Vocations in the Dragon's Dogma games, and one of its coolest is DD2 's new Mystic Spearhand . The Arisen is first introduced to this Vocation during the fight against a lesser dragon in Melve, but this can easily be missed if too much time has passed. Sigmund, the inventor of this Vocation , will aid in the village's defense, showing off his hybrid skills, and is thanked by Ulrika after the dragon is repelled.

Here, the Arisen can interact with Sigmund and ask him about his fighting style. After the interaction, they will have unlocked the Mystic Spearhand Vocation, now needing to interact with a guild master to switch to it. Sigmund will not reappear in Melve if not interacted here, and it should be noted that there is no indicator on the map for the Maister until much later in the story.

4 The Phantom Oxcart

No one steals the arisen's pawns.

Pawns are loyal to a fault and are known for following commands to a tee. This unfortunately gets them in trouble, as the Arisen discovers after hearing rumors of the Phantom Oxcart from a couple of guards in Vernworth. It is said to only be seen after the sun has set and once the Arisen first finds the Oxcart, they discover that it is actually a scheme used to transport Pawns as slaves to Battahl for nefarious reasons.

The player is then instructed to follow or board the Phantom Oxcart but is not told how to accomplish either. The easiest method is to pretend to be a Pawn by removing all armor and weapons , talking to the driver and hopping aboard. This leads to the discovery of a conspiracy, possibly headed by Queen Regent Disa, and is a unique quest in the way that it encourages espionage. It also helps get revenge on those that wrong the loyal Pawns.

3 Hunting Down Medusa

It's time for a rematch.

Medusa makes quite an entrance in Dragon Dogma 2 's tutorial by being the game's first boss, yet once it flees, it doesn't appear in the main story again for a potential rematch. That does not mean the Arisen can't go hunting for it to settle the score. It is one of the game's few truly unique enemies, after all, and with the game's fun and dynamic combat system, such a boss fight should not be missed.

Dragon’s Dogma 2: How To Find (& Beat) The Medusa (Missable Boss)

Although Medusa can be found by simply wandering into the Caliginous Depths, the player can receive a hint about its whereabouts in the game from Battahl. In the Forbidden Magick Research Lab, there is a beastren NPC who will mention a rumor regarding Medusa, telling the Arisen that the monster is hiding in the Caliginous Depths. Other than settling the score, the player can get Medusa's head as a drop, which turns enemies to stone.

If a player wants Medusa's head, they need to deal slashing damage to its neck and head. Only then can it be looted.

2 Sphinx, Master Of Riddles

Riddles in the dark.

Despite being prevalent in the game's trailers, finding the Sphinx is entirely optional. In fact, there is no quest marker whatsoever for the creature, which is strange given its unique and incredible design. It provides the player with an equally unique encounter, using riddles and words , rather than swords and claws, but it is hard to find and placed away from the path taken to complete the main story.

Those searching for the Sphinx after getting a face full of it in the trailers need to head north of the Checkpoint Town. There is an area called the Ancient Battleground in this northern region, which has a dungeon called the Mountain Shrine. The Sphinx calls this shrine home and will give the Arisen several riddles to answer. The player can still fight the Sphinx should they wish to, as it guards a golden chest even after the riddles are correctly answered .

1 The Post-Game

Pathfinding the true ending.

Despite booting the player to the credits after defeating the final boss , Dragon's Dogma 2 has a post-game . This post-game is, of course, entirely optional, but it adds a plethora of new content. New bosses are there to be fought, offering a challenge not seen in the base game, and the completion of the post-game is required to get Dragon's Dogma 2 's true ending .

Dragon’s Dogma 2 Final Boss & Every Ending Explained (In Detail)

Starting the post-game is quite a finicky process. The Dragon (the final boss) must be battled, and after it is beaten, there will be a coronation scene for the Arisen. Instead of choosing the throne, the player must talk to the Pathfinder, who will send them back to the dragonflight cutscene before the final fight. Climb to the Dragon's chest and then have the Arisen stab themselves with the Empowered Godsbane Blade , which will begin the post-game and lead to the true ending of Dragon's Dogma 2 .

Dragon's Dogma II

The Sequel to Dragon's Dogma and its expansion, Dark Arisen, Dragon's Dogma 2 is an action-adventure RPG game from the developers at Capcom. Players will create their protagonist, the "Arisen," as they embark on a journey to slay a Dragon that threatens the world. Joined by otherworldly beings known as Pawns, the Arisen will utilize melee weapons and spells as they battle against various types of foes.

Israel’s Deadly Airstrike on the World Central Kitchen

The story behind the pioneering aid group and how it mistakenly came under attack..

From “The New York Times,” I’m Michael Barbaro. This is “The Daily.”

The Israeli airstrike that killed seven aid workers delivering food in Gaza has touched off outrage and condemnations from across the world. Today, Kim Severson on the pioneering relief crew at the center of the story, and Adam Rasgon on what we’re learning about the deadly attack on the group’s workers. It’s Thursday, April 4.

Kim, can you tell us about the World Central Kitchen?

World Central Kitchen started as a little idea in Chef José Andrés’ head. He was in Haiti with some other folks, trying to do earthquake relief in 2010. And his idea at that point was to teach Haitians to cook and to use solar stoves and ways for people to feed themselves, because the infrastructure was gone.

And he was cooking with some Haitians in one of the camps, and they were showing him how to cook beans the Haitian way. You sort of smash them and make them a little creamy. And it occurred to him that there was something so comforting for those folks to eat food that was from their culture that tasted good to them. You know, if you’re having a really hard time, what makes you feel good is comfort food, right? And warm comfort food.

So that moment in the camp really was the seed of this idea. It planted this notion in José Andrés’ mind, and that notion eventually became World Central Kitchen.

And for those who don’t know, Kim, who exactly is Chef José Andrés?

José Andrés is a Spanish chef who cooked under some of the Spanish molecular gastronomy greats, came to America, really made his bones in Washington, DC, with some avant-garde food, but also started to expand and cook tapas, cook Mexican food. He’s got about 40 restaurants now.

Yeah. And he’s got a great Spanish restaurant in New York. He’s got restaurants in DC, restaurants in Miami.

Come with me to the kitchen. Don’t be shy.

He’s also become a big TV personality.

Chef, are you going to put the lobster in the pot with the potatoes?

We’re going to leave the potatoes in.

Leave the potatoes in!

He’s one of the most charismatic people I’ve ever been around in the food world.

He’s very much the touchstone of what people want their celebrity chefs to be.

So how does he go from being all those things you just described, to being on the ground, making local comfort food for Haitians? And how does this all go from an idea that that would be a good idea, to this much bigger, full-fledged humanitarian organization?

So he started to realize that giving people food in disaster zones was a thing that was really powerful. He helped feed people after Hurricane Sandy, and he realized that he could get local chefs who all wanted to help and somehow harness that power. But the idea really became set when he went to Houston in 2017 to help after Hurricane Harvey.

And that’s when he saw that getting local chefs to tap into their resources, borrowing kitchens, using ingredients that chefs might have had on hand or are spoiling in the fridge because the power is out and all these restaurants needed something to do with all this food before it rotted — harnessing all that and putting it together and giving people well-cooked, delicious — at least as delicious as it can be in a disaster zone — that’s when World Central Kitchen as we know it today sort of emerged as a fully formed concept.

The first pictures now coming in from Puerto Rico after taking a direct hit — Hurricane Maria slamming into the island. And as you heard, one official saying the island is destroyed.

Shortly after that, he flew to Puerto Rico, where Hurricane Maria had pretty much left the entire island without water and in darkness.

He flew in on one of the first commercial jets that went back in. He got a couple of his chef buddies whose kitchens were closed, and they just decided to start cooking. They were basically just serving pots of stew, chicken stew, in front of the restaurants.

The lines got longer. And of course, chefs are a really specific kind of creature. They really like to help their community. They’re really about feeding people.

So all the people who were chefs or cooks on the ground in Puerto Rico who could wanted to help. And you had all these chefs in the States who wanted to fly down and help if they could, too. So you had this constant flow of chefs coming in and out. That’s when I went down and followed him around for about a week.

And what did you see?

Well, one of the most striking things was his ability to get food to remote places in ways the Salvation Army couldn’t and other government agencies that were on the ground couldn’t. You know, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, FEMA, doesn’t deliver food. It contracts with people to deliver food.

So you have all these steps of bureaucracy you have to go through to get those contracts. And then, FEMA says you have to have a bottle of water and this and that in those boxes. There’s a lot of structure to be able to meet the rules and regulations of FEMA.

So José doesn’t really care about rules and regulations very much. So he just got his troops together and figured out where people needed food. He had this big paper map he’d carry around and lay out. And he had a Sharpie, and he’d circle villages where he’d heard people needed food or where a bridge was out.

And then he would dispatch people to get the food there. Now, how are you going to do that? He was staying in a hotel where some National Guard and military police were staying to go patrol areas to make sure they were safe. He would tuck his big aluminum pans of food into the back of those guys’ cars, and say, Could you stop and drop these off at this church?

During that time in Puerto Rico, he funded a lot of it off of his own credit cards or with cash. And then he’s on the phone with people like the president of Goya or his golf buddies who are well-connected, saying, hey, we need some money. Can you send some money for this? Can you send some money for that?

So he just developed this network, almost overnight. I mean, he is very much a general in the field. He wears this Orvis fishing vest, has cigars in one pocket, money in the other. And he just sets out to feed people.

And there were deliveries that were as simple as he and a couple of folks taking plastic bags with food and wading through a flooded parking lot to an apartment building where an older person had been stuck for a few days and couldn’t get out, to driving up to a community that had been cut off. There was a church that was trying to distribute food.

We drive through this little mountain road and get to this church. We start unloading the food, and the congregation is inside the church. José comes in, and the pastor thanks him so much. And the 20 people or so who are there gather around José, and they begin praying.

And he puts his head down. He’s a Catholic. He’s a man who prays. He puts his head down. He’s in the middle of these folks, and he starts to pray with them. And then, pulls out his map, circles another spot, and the group is off to the next place.

And when Russia invades Ukraine, he immediately decided it was time for World Central Kitchen to step into a war zone. You know, so many people needed to eat. So many Ukrainians were crossing the border into Poland.

There are refugees in several countries surrounding Ukraine. So a lot of the work that they did was feeding the refugees. They set up big operations around train stations, places where refugees were coming, and then they were able to get into cities.

One of their operations did get hit with some armaments early on. Nobody was hurt badly. But I think that was the first time that they realized this was an actually more dangerous situation than perhaps going in after there’s been an earthquake.

But the other thing that really made a difference here is, José Andrés and World Central Kitchen would broadcast on social media, live from the kitchens. In the beginning, he’d be holding up his phone and saying, we put out 3 million meals for the people of Puerto Rico, chefs for Puerto Rico. It was very infectious.

And now, one of the standard operating procedures for people who are in the World Central Kitchens is to hold up the phone like that — you can see the kitchen, busy in the back — and talk about how many meals they’ve served. They have these kind of wild meal counts, which one presumes are pretty accurate. But they’re like, we served 320,000 meals this morning to the people of Lviv.

I mean, that scale seems important to note. This is not the kind of work that feeds a few people and a few towns. When you’re talking about 300,000 meals in a morning, you’re talking about something that begins, it would seem, to rival the scope and the reach of the groups that we tend to think of as the most important in the disaster-relief world.

Absolutely. And the meals — there are lots and lots and lots of meals. But also, World Central Kitchen hires local cooks. They’ll hire food truck operators, who obviously have no work, and pay them to go out and deliver the meals. They’ll pay local cooks to come in and cook. That’s what they do with a lot of their donations, which is very different than other aid organizations. And this then helps the local economy. He’s trying to buy as much local food as he can. That keeps the economy going in the time of a disaster. So that’s a piece of his operation that is a little different than traditional aid operations.

So walk us up to October 7, when Hamas attacked Israel. What does Chef José Andrés and the World Kitchen do?

Well, he had had such impact in Ukraine. And I think the organization itself thought that they had the infrastructure to now take food into another war zone. Gaza, of course, was nothing like Ukraine. But World Central Kitchen shows up. They’re nimble. They start to connect with local chefs.

Right now, they have about 60 kitchens in the areas around Gaza, and they’ve hired about 400 Palestinians to help do that. But getting the food into Gaza became the difficulty.

How do you actually get the food into the Gaza Strip? Large amounts of food that require trucks? You’ve got to realize, getting food into Gaza right now requires going through Israeli checkpoints.

And that slows the operation down. You might get eight trucks a day in, and that is such a small amount of food. And this has been incredibly difficult for any aid operations.

So World Central Kitchen, playing on the experience that they had in a war zone and working with government entities and trying to coordinate permissions — they took that experience from Ukraine and were trying to apply it in the Gaza Strip. Now, they had worked for a long time with Israeli officials. They wanted to make sure that they could get their food in.

And they decided that the best way to do it would be to take food off of ships, get it in a warehouse, and then get that food into Gaza. It took a long time to pull those permissions through, but they were able to get the permissions they needed and set this system up, so they could move the food fairly quickly into North Gaza.

And once they get those permissions, how big a player do they become in Gaza?

World Central Kitchen became a kind of a fulcrum point for getting food aid in to Gaza in a way that a larger and more established humanitarian aid operations couldn’t, in part because they were small and nimble in their way. So the amount of food they were moving maybe wasn’t as large as some of the more established humanitarian aid organizations, but they had so much goodwill. They had so much logistical knowledge.

They were working with local Palestinians who knew the food systems and who understood how to get things in and out. So they were able to find a way to use a humanitarian corridor to have permissions from the Israeli government, to be able to move this food back and forth. And that’s always been the secret to World Central Kitchen — is incredibly nimble. So —

Just like in Puerto Rico, they seemed to win over just about everybody and do the seemingly impossible.

Right. And World Central Kitchen says they delivered 43 million meals to Gazans since the start of the war. And I don’t think there was any other group that could have pulled this off.

Hey, this is Zomi and Chef Olivier. We’re at the Deir al-Balah kitchen. And we’ve got the mise en place. Tell us a little bit about it, Chef.

And then, this caravan, this fairly efficient caravan of armored vehicles, labeled with World Central Kitchen logo on the roof, on the sides — the idea was they head on — this humanitarian quarter, they head on this road. The seven people who went all in vests — three of whom are security people from Great Britain — you have another World Central Kitchen employee who has handled operations in Asia, in Central America. She’s quite a veteran of the World Central Kitchen operation.

And you have a young man who someone told me was like the Michael Jordan of humanitarian aid, who hooked up with World Central Kitchen in Poland. He was a hospitality student and had just become an indispensable make-it-happen guy. And you have a Palestinian guy who’s 25, a driver.

So this is the team. They have all the clearances. They have the well-marked vehicles. It seemed like a very simple, surgical kind of operation. And of course, now, as we know, it was anything but that.

After the break, my colleague Adam Rasgon on what happened to the World Central Kitchen workers in that caravan. We’ll be right back.

So Adam, what ends up happening to this convoy that our colleague Kim Severson just described from World Central Kitchen?

So what we know is that members of the World Central Kitchen had been at a warehouse in Deir al-Balah in the Central Gaza Strip. They had just unloaded about 100 tons of food aid that had been brought via a maritime route to the coast of the Gaza Strip. When they departed the warehouse, they were in three cars.

Two of the cars were armored cars, and one was a soft-skinned car, according to the organization. When the cars reached the coastal road, known as Al Rashid Street, they started to make their way south.

And what do we know about how much the World Central Kitchen would have told the Israeli military about their plans to be on this road?

Yeah. So the World Central Kitchen said that its movements were coordinated. And in military speak or in technical speak, people often refer to this as deconfliction. So basically, this process is something that not only the World Central Kitchen but the UN, telecommunications companies going out to repair damaged telecommunications infrastructure, others would use, where they basically provide the Israeli military with information about the people who are traveling — their ID numbers, their names, the license plate numbers of the cars they’ll be traveling in.

They’ll sort of explain where their destination is. And the general process is that the Israelis will then come back to them and say, you’re approved to travel from this time, and you can take this specific route.

And do we know if that happened? If the IDF said, you’re approved, use this route on this night?

So we heard from the World Central Kitchen that they did receive this approval. And the military hasn’t come out and said that it wasn’t approved. So I think it’s fair to assume that their movements were coordinated and de-conflicted.

OK. So what happens as this seemingly pre-approved and coordinated convoy trip is making this leg of the journey?

They started to make their way south towards Rafah. And the three cars suddenly came under fire. The Israeli army unleashes powerful and devastating strikes on the three cars in the convoy, most likely from a drone. The strikes rip through the cars, killing everyone inside.

Shortly thereafter, ambulances from the Palestine Red Crescent are dispatched to the location. They retrieve the dead bodies.

They bring those bodies to a hospital. And at the hospital, the bodies are laid out, and journalists start to report to the world that indeed, five members of the World Central Kitchen staff have been killed. And the Palestine Red Crescent teams were continuing to search for other bodies and eventually brought back two more bodies to the hospital for a total of seven people killed in these airstrikes.

And when the sun comes up, what does it end up looking like — the scene of these struck trucks from this convoy?

So early in the morning when the sun comes up, a number of Palestinian journalists headed out to the coastal road and started taking pictures and videos. And I received a series of videos from one of the reporters that I was in touch with, essentially showing three cars, all heavily damaged. One had a World Central Kitchen logo on top of it, with a gaping hole in the middle of the roof.

A second car was completely charred. You could barely recognize the structure of the car. The inside of it had been completely charred, and the front smashed.

And do we know if the strike on this convoy was the only strike happening in this area? In other words, is it possible that this convoy was caught in some kind of a crossfire or in the middle of a firefight, or does it appear that this was quite narrow, and was the Israeli army targeting these specific vehicles, whether or not they realized who was in it?

We don’t have any other indication that there was another strike on that road around that time.

What that suggests, of course, is that this convoy was targeted. Now, whether Israeli officials knew who was in it, whether they were aid workers, seems like a yet-unresolved question. But it does feel very clear that the trucks in this convoy were deliberately struck.

Yes. I do think the trucks in this convoy were deliberately struck.

What is the reaction to these airstrikes on this convoy and to the death of these aid workers?

Well, one of the first reactions is from the World Central kitchen’s founder, José Andrés.

Chef José Andrés, who founded World Central Kitchen, calling them angels.

He said he was heartbroken and grieving.

And adding the Israeli government needs to stop this indiscriminate killing.

And then, he accused Israel of using food as a weapon.

What I know is that we were targeted deliberately, nonstop, until everybody was dead in this convoy.

And he just seemed devastated and quite angry.

And so what is the reaction from not just World Central Kitchen, but from the rest of the world to this airstrike?

There’s, frankly, fury and outrage.

The White House says it is outraged by an Israeli airstrike that killed seven aid workers in Gaza, including one American.

President Biden, who has been becoming increasingly critical of Israel’s approach to this war — he came out and said that he was outraged and heartbroken.

Certainly sharper in tone than we have heard in the past. He says Israel has not done enough to protect aid workers trying to deliver desperately needed help to civilians. Incidents like yesterday’s simply should not happen. Israel also has not —

And we’re seeing similar outrage from foreign governments. The British Foreign Secretary David Cameron —

The dreadful events of the last two days are a moment when we should mourn the loss of these brave humanitarian workers.

— said that the airstrikes were completely unacceptable. And he called on Israel to explain how this happened and to make changes to ensure that aid workers could be safe.

So amid all this, what does Israel have to say about the attack — about how it happened, about why it happened?

The response from Israel this time was much different, compared to other controversial airstrikes on the Gaza Strip. Often, when we’re reporting on these issues, we’ll hear from the army that they’re investigating a given incident. It will take days, if not weeks, to receive updates on where that investigation stands.

There are instances where Israel does take responsibility for harming civilians, but it’s often rare. This time, the Prime Minister —

[NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]

— Benjamin Netanyahu comes out with a video message —

— saying that Israel had unintentionally harmed innocent civilians. And that was the first indication or public indication that Israel was going to take responsibility for what had happened.

The IDF works together closely with the World Central Kitchen and greatly appreciates the important work that they do.

We later heard from the military’s chief of staff. Herzi Halevi issued a video statement in English.

I want to be very clear the strike was not carried out with the intention of harming aid workers. It was a mistake that followed a misidentification.

And he said this mistake had come after a misidentification. He said it was in the middle of a war, in a very complex condition. But —

This incident was a grave mistake. We are sorry for the unintentional harm to the members of WCK.

He was clear that this shouldn’t have happened.

I want to talk about that statement, because it seems to suggest — that word, “misidentification”— that the Israeli army believed that somebody else was in this convoy, that it wasn’t a bunch of aid workers.

That’s possible, although it’s extremely vague and cryptic language that genuinely is difficult to understand. And it’s a question that us in the Jerusalem Bureau have been asking ourselves.

I’m curious if the Israeli government has said anything in all of its statements so far about whether it noticed these markings on these three cars in the convoy. Because that, I think, for so many people, stands out as making misidentification hard to understand. It seems like perhaps a random pickup truck could be misidentified as perhaps a vehicle being used by a Hamas militant. But a group of World Central Kitchen trucks with their name all over it, driving down a known aid corridor — that becomes harder to understand as misidentification.

Yeah, it’s an important question. And at this moment, we don’t know exactly what the Israeli reconnaissance drones could see, and whether or not they were able to see, in the darkness of the night, the markings of the World Central Kitchen on the cars. But what is clear is that when the cars were found in the morning, right there was the big emblazoned logo of the World Central Kitchen.

Mm-hmm. I’m curious how you think about the speed with which Israel came out and said it was in the wrong here. Because as you said, that’s not how Israel typically reacts to many of these situations. And that makes me think that it might have something to do with the nature of the aid group that was the target of these airstrikes — the World Central Kitchen — and its story.

I think it does have to do with this particular group. This is a group that’s led by a celebrity chef, very high-profile, who is gone around the world to conflict zones, disaster areas, to provide food aid. And I also think it has to do with the people who were killed, most of who were Western foreign aid workers. Frankly, I don’t think we would be having this conversation if a group of Palestinian aid workers had been killed.

Nor, perhaps, would we be having the reaction that we have had so far from the Israeli government.

I would agree with that.

Adam, at the end of the day, what is going to be the fallout from all of this for the people of Gaza? How do we think that this attack on World Central Kitchen is going to impact how food, medicine, aid is distributed there?

So the World Central Kitchen has said that it’s suspending its operations across Gaza. Because it essentially seems that they don’t feel they can safely operate there right now. And several ships that carried aid for the organization, which were sort of just on the coast — those ships ended up turning back to Cyprus, carrying more than 200 tons of aid.

So aid that was supposed to reach the people of Gaza is now leaving Gaza because of this attack.

Yes. And it’s also had a chilling effect. Another aid group, named INARA, has also suspended its operations in Gaza. And it seems that there is concern among humanitarians that other aid groups could follow.

So in a place where people are already suffering from severe hunger, poor sanitation, the spread of dangerous disease, this is only going to make the humanitarian situation, which is already dire, even worse.

Well, Adam, thank you very much. We appreciate it.

Thanks so much for having me.

We’ll be right back.

Here’s what else you need to know today. The magnitude-7.4 earthquake that struck Taiwan on Wednesday has killed nine people, injured more than 1,000, and touched off several landslides. It was Taiwan’s strongest quake in the past 25 years. But in a blessing for the island’s biggest cities, its epicenter was off the island’s east coast, relatively far from population centers like Taipei.

And the first patient to receive a kidney transplant from a genetically modified pig has fared so well that he was discharged from a Massachusetts hospital on Wednesday just two weeks after surgery. Two previous transplants from genetically modified pigs both failed. Doctors say the success of the latest surgery represents a major moment in medicine that, if replicated, could usher in a new era of organ transplantation.

How strong is a 4.8 earthquake? Quake magnitudes explained.

how many journey 2 movies are there

The 4.8 magnitude earthquake that struck New Jersey Friday generated shaking that could be felt from Washington, D.C. to north of Boston.

About 55 earthquakes a day – 20,000 a year – are recorded by the National Earthquake Information Center . Most are tiny and barely noticed by people living where they happen. Click here to see the USDA shake map for the most recent earthquakes.

Worldwide there are on average about 16 major earthquakes in any given year, 15 in the magnitude 7.0 range and one 8.0 or greater, according to records going back to 1900.

The United States typically has around 63 earthquakes of between magnitude 5.0 and 5.9 each year, according to USGS , about five between 6.0 and 6.9 and less than one between 7.0 and 7.9.

A major 7.4-magnitude earthquake hit Taiwan on Wednesday morning , killing 9 people and injuring over 1,000. The strongest earthquake there in a quarter century was followed by a series of aftershocks, reaching up to 6.4 magnitude.

More earthquakes are being recorded around the globe, but that doesn’t mean there are more earthquakes happening , according to the US Geological Survey. Instead, it’s because there are more measurement devices, called seismometers that record vibrations, which have been deployed in more places.

Earthquakes are a natural part of life on Earth, a geologically active planet , with seven major tectonic plates. These are continent-sized slabs of rock that glide over the planet’s mantle, constantly but very slowly reshaping the Earth’s landscape.

What does magnitude mean in an earthquake?

Magnitude is a measurement of the strength of an earthquake . Officially it's called the Moment Magnitude Scale . It's a logarithmic scale , meaning each number is ten times as strong as the one before it. So a 5.2 earthquake is moderate while a 6.2 is strong.

The magnitude and effect of an earthquake, according to Michigan Technological University :

  • Below 2.5: Generally not felt
  • 2.5 to 5.4: Minor or no damage
  • 5.5 to 6.0: Slight damage to buildings
  • 6.1 to 6.9: Serious damage
  • 8.0 or greater: Massive damage, can totally destroy communities

Intensity scales, measured in Roman numerals, are used to describe how strong the earthquake felt to people in the area.

According to the California Earthquake Authority , an intensity of I is typically felt only under especially favorable conditions. A IV, which leads to light shaking, is felt indoors by many, but not typically outdoors. It might awaken some people at night and lead to a senation like a truck striking a building. A parked car would rock. Intensities VI and above would be strong, frightening and felt by all, with the damage increasing up to a X where the shaking would be violent. Some well-built wooden structures would be destroyed and most masonry and frame structures along with their foundations would be ruined.

While you might have heard the term " the Richter Scale " used to describe earthquakes, it is no longer commonly used because it was only valid for certain earthquake frequencies and distance ranges.

Why does an earthquake's depth matter?

Magnitude measures how strong a quake is. That said, how much the ground shakes depends on an earthquake's intensity, which in turn depends on two things: how far away the actual site of the temblor was and what kind of soil it occurs in.

This is why an earthquake's depth is often given. The epicenter of the Northridge earthquake in Los Angeles in 1994 was in the San Fernando Valley, the point where the quake was strongest. But the hypocenter , the location where the quake actually occurred, was more than 11 miles underground. If it had been closer to the surface the 6.7 magnitude quake would have been even more devastating.

The type of ground matters too. Bedrock shakes least, sand and gravel as much as two times more and mud and landfill as much as five times more, a major factor in why some areas of San Francisco suffered more than others in the Loma Prieta quake of 1989 .

Why real earthquakes aren't like in the movies

Though movies like San Andreas and Earthquake show enormous entire coastlines dropping off into the ocean, it's not going to happen.

According to the US Geological Service, while a "mega-quake with a magnitude of 10 or larger is theoretically possible, it's very unlikely .

The magnitude of an earthquake magnitude depends in part on how long the geological fault it occurs on is. Longer faults result in stronger earthquakes.

There are no known faults capable of generating a magnitude 10 or larger. The San Andreas fault of movie fame couldn't produce a quake larger than about 8.3 given its length, according to USGS.

The largest earthquake in US history was the 1964 Good Friday quake in Alaska , a 9.2 magnitude quake which killed 131 people. It lasted four and a half minutes and ran along the Aleutian fault.

What's the chance of an aftershock?

Any time there's an earthquake, one concern is that it was merely a foreshock to a bigger quake that's coming.

Globally, the probability one earthquake will be followed by a large earthquake within 3 days is somewhere just over 6%, according to USGS .

That means whenever there's an earthquake, there's about a 94% chance that it wasn't a foreshock and there won't be any more quakes linked to it.

The numbers are a little different for California, which is very seismically active. There, about half of the biggest earthquakes were preceded by foreshocks, according to USGS. But that means half were not.

Unfortunately, it's impossible to know if any one quake is a foreshock.

Aftershocks  are defined as smaller earthquakes that happen in days after a larger quake. As USGS puts it, they represent "minor readjustments along the portion of a fault that slipped at the time of the mainshock."
