"Janet Jackson" Lifetime documentary

After teasing a big announcement on her social channels over the weekend, Janet Jackson revealed that she will be going on tour next year, with Ludacris as the opening act. The dates appear below.

She also promises “There will be new music.”

While her longwinded video announcement is short on details (but big on hellos to countries tuning in), the tour will launch on April 14 in Hollywood, Fla. and will hit 22 states before concluding in Seattle on June 21. Pre-sale for the tickets will begin on December 13th on Ticketmaster, and general admission will start on December 16th according to her website.

She also posted a sizzle reel on her socials.

The singer has been more visible in recent months than she has in many years, with an appearance inducting longtime collaborators Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in a ceremony held in Los Angeles last month.

She also made headlines with a Lifetime documentary on her life and career , which unpacked the indisputably unfair way she was treated in the wake of her controversial wardrobe malfunction at the 2004 Super Bowl. Jackson’s career suffered in the years that followed, while her co-headliner Justin Timberlake, who actually caused the malfunction, thrived.

The documentary, however, sheds little revealing light on its subject. “Fans will take heart that Jackson is presented here in her best light: That archival footage depicts a talent at the top of her game, and in the present day, she seems serene and happy, with tearful moments punctuating an overall sense of Zen calm,” Variety’s review reads in part. “For now, Jackson remains fascinating but enigmatic — a star about whom we’ll perpetually want to know more. And viewers will have known that before investing the time in a doc that can’t quite figure out its namesake.”

JANET Jackson is set to return with a huge world tour and her first London performance in more than a decade.

She will perform a re-worked show after cancelling her Black Diamond tour in 2020 and will tease some new material.

Janet Jackson will perform a re-worked show after cancelling her Black Diamond tour in 2020

The singer last performed to UK fans at the 2019 Glastonbury Festival in a crammed 50-minute slot, but before that it was a three-night run at the Royal Albert Hall in 2011.

A music insider tells me: “ Janet has been preparing for her music comeback for a while and is gearing up for a performance that packs a punch.

“She is so grateful to her fans for sticking by her while she has had a few years out to start a family and wants to thank them with an amazing production.

“It will focus on the reissue of her 1997 album The Velvet Rope as well as some brand new material. It’s a massive deal.”

Janet Jackson claims she was 'blocked' from seeing Michael during Scream video

The Rhythm Nation singer, who celebrated The Velvet Rope’s 25th anniversary at Shoreditch House last weekend, has an jaw-dropping career spanning more than three decades, with 38 UK Top 40 hits and 11 studio albums, including 2015’s Unbreakable.

The younger sister of late legend Michael has sold an astonishing 100 million records.

Janet, who was seen celebrating at London’s Reign nightclub this week, teased her plans in June. She said: “It’s so funny because I see the fans asking, ‘When are we going to get Black Diamond? Will you please release?’

“Sometimes things happen that you don’t expect to happen, and you have to figure things out - or you’re in a space in your life when you have to take a step back and take a break for a minute. Even though it’s something that I absolutely love, it still is my work, my job.

He hollered: “This is what we call the ‘RD’ party” to screams loud enough to be heard back across the Atlantic as the audience bellowed the words to favourites MGNO and Every Little Thing.

While this show may have lacked edge, Dickerson’s rootin’-tootin’ party vibe was irresistible. A bright light leading a new country charge, dismiss him at your peril.

Janet Jackson (born May 16, 1966) is one of the world’s most successful American R&B/pop singer-songwriters. Born the youngest of nine Jackson siblings, she proved the only one to break out of Michael Jackson’s shadow releasing a string of successful albums and singles, hailing from Gary, Indiana, U.S.

By the time Janet Jackson was born in 1966, her sibling band the Jackson 5 had already begun performing together. The young singer would later make her debut with the band at the age of seven, later joining the cast of the TV sitcom “Good Times” at the age of 10. Further TV appearances followed including “Different Strokes” and “A New Kind of Family”, before under pressure from her father released her self-titled debut album in 1982. A second studio album “Dream Street” followed in 1984 matching the disappointment of its predecessor, after which she hired a new manger John McCain and underwent dancing lessons.

Having collaborated with producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis in the studio, Jackson released her third studio album, “Control”, in 1982. Catapulting the singer to Pop Icon status, and promoting Jackson as a strong minded, responsible young woman, the record was a smash hit, topping the Billboard 200 upon release. Spawning the Billboard Hot 100 Top 5 singles “What Have You Done for Me Lately”, “Nasty”, “When I Think of You”, “Control”, and “Let’s Wait Awhile”, the album went on to sell over 14 million copies worldwide.

The success of the album meant it became a tough act to follow, and, reluctant to overtly sell her sexuality opted for a more socially conscious, romantic album with 1989’s “Rhythm Nation 1814”. Spawning four No. 1 singles “Miss You Much”, “Escapade”, “Black Cat”, and “Love Will Never Do (Without You)”, the record featured high-quality production, generous samples and was supported by the singer’s first major tour.

Following the release Jackson signed with Virgin Records, in a deal reportedly worth $32 million, and duetted with Luther Vandross on the single “The Best Things in Life Are Free”. Far removed from her previous public image, Jackson’s 1993 album “janet.” showcased a sexy and alluring singer, epitomised by her ‘revealing’ Rolling Stone Magazine cover. Featuring Jam and Lewis at the production reigns once again, the album was led by Jackson’s biggest single to date “That’s the Way Love Goes”, which was held aloft the Billboard Hot 100 for eight weeks. In 1995 the singer collaborated with her brother Michael on the single “Scream”, which later resulted in the most expensive music video of all time, but only rose to No. 5 in the pop charts.

After singing another deal with Virgin worth $80 million, the singer released the full-length “The Velvet Rope” in 1997. Marked by Jackson’s newfound sexuality as well as the social consciousness promoted on “Rhythm Nation”, the record earned mixed reviews however spawned the No. 1 single “Together Again”. In support of the record Jackson embarked on another worldwide tour and remained in the charts with the duet “What’s It Gonna Be?!” with Busta Rhymes and “Doesn’t Really Matter”. The full-length “All for You” arrived in 2001 once again finding itself at the top of the Billboard 200 and was led by the No. 1 titled track.

Following a “wardrobe malfunction” at the Super Bowl XXXVIII, Jackson became America’s focal talking point, and raised a national debate on public indecency. At the same time the singer issued her eighth studio album “Damita Ja” in 2004 featuring production from Jam and Lewis, Kanye West, Dallas Austin, and Just Blaze. Due to the Super Bowl incident a host of media outlets refused to play the album’s singles which resulted in significantly lower album sales compared to predecessors. In 2006 Jackson released the full-length “20 Y.O.” led by the singles “Call on Me” and “So Excited”, which was followed by the singer’s 10th studio album “Discipline” in 2008.

Live reviews

Any fan of pop music cannot go wrong in attending a Janet Jackson performance. Of course music is the central focus at any concert, but if you go to one of Janet's shows you are going to get a hell of a lot more than that. She is simply a spectacle to watch.

Her vocals are so precise that they sound as though they have been lifted straight from her albums (and no she does not lip-synch). Her dance moves are absolutely out of this world. She jerks around in a nearly mechanical manner, testing the limits of the human body. Some of her choreographed routines seem to an extent inhuman and these rigid robotic-like convulsions seem to fit in beautifully with the technopolis style set design. The flashing lights and the illuminated LED screens projecting images so fast you think you are going to have a seizure really accent the futuristic look of the mis-en-scene.

And don't even get me started on Janet's vast and immensely stylish fashion. She may not change costumes as much as her more histrionic contemporaries, but the outfits she does choose could not complement her dance style and set design more. She is typically seen sporting a homogenous colored outfit (usually in a classic white or black), which is incredibly sleek looking. Her jackets fit tightly around the waist and often are lined with dominant looking shoulder pads that create an extreme dynamic look. Again her acute choice of clothes really enhances the power of her dance performance. Her dance performances also pair nicely with her music often mirroring the message or themes of the song. From a pop star at the caliber of Janet, it is without doubt that you will experience a hit laden night. She will take you through her immense catalogue and sound, performing slowed down ballads like "Again", slowed down jams like "Any Time, Any Place", old school breakbeats "Rhythm Nation" and electro-club tracks like "Feedback". Whatever song you do hear it will be absolutely astonishing.

The show was 7 out of 10. It was a solid performance from an artist trying to hit all the highlights of a 30-year career.

Janet was very present for his show. You could see it in her face and hear it in her voice, which was as good as ever. She got choked up a couple of times during her sit-down set.

She used a full band as back up which, along with a dance troop that really got into it, kept the energy strong. There was only 1 true intermission with 2 other breaks at about 2 minutes each. She was on stage for nearly two hours and did not let up once. The lack of costume changes helped keep things moving.

The set was minimal but functional. It set a nice tone for the show and made good use of the smaller stage. Set pieces that I thought were just for show turned out to be integral to several songs.

A few point off though:

1) I am not a fan of medleys and this show was comprised almost entirely of them. Most songs were 2-3 minutes long that all flowed from one to another with a few around 4. None were the full versions - trust me, I know my Janet - and none presented interpretations that moved me, though as I said the energy was certainly there.

2) The Bill Graham Center has average sound and acoustics but it was made worse by the oversaturated base which drowned out her voice in several songs.

3) No opening act. The DJ that was used instead was OK but because of #2, I couldn't enjoy the music he was playing.

Janet's concert was awesome. My 24 yr. old son and I never sat for even a minute. It started off with her DJ which was a great build up to her coming on stage. The DJ was fantastic.

I saw her Blackcat Tour and she still has the same energy now that she had back then. Her dancers were fabulous to watch and of course being from Edmonton it was great to see she even had a young dancer from Edmonton that was a great dancer. We were very impressed.

She has not aged a bit still looking fabulous. We wee not disappointed at all. It was worth every cent we paid and then some. As soon as we got in we were so happy to purchases T-shirts and a book. I also pre-ordered her soon to be released new Album and look forward to receiving it.

Unfortunately I did not check my emails otherwise we would have known about the museum that was there and could have potentially upgraded our seats. But it was fine as we had floor seats row 9 so we were not disappointed.

If she ever comes back on Tour again to Edmonton we will definitely go again.

Janet Jackson still rules in the music industry and she is as beautiful as ever. Great show, great band, back up dancers, singers and DJ.

No one could possibly be disappointed and if they are they have issues. I would highly recommend any that is a JJ fan to not miss this Unbreakable tour.

Janet is back and doing her thang.

The Jackson name has been carved into popular culture and music over the past 60 years. After her siblings made up The Jackson 5 and the unbelievable solo success of her brother ‘king of pop’ Michael. Being born into such a family it was only fitting that Janet would follow in their footsteps and make her own career in the music industry.

She has won 5 Grammy award as a recording artist and has also enjoyed success as an actress. Despite not hitting the legendary heights of her brother Michael she has no doubt enjoyed an extremely successful career. I mean extremely! To date she has sold over 140million records! She hit the bit time after the release of her 3rd album ‘Control’ this album was a big change and showed more maturity. Many of her track are provocative to say the least, but what do you expect from a women who quickly became one of the biggest sex symbols in the world.

She is well know for her live performances, many of them extremely elaborate. She certainly takes after her brother Michael for being an entertainer. Larger than life, a superb dancer, powerful vocals and flawless stage presence made her the complete package as a live act. With great tracks like “Together Again”, “Nasty” and “That’s The Way Love Goes” to name a few, she is most definitely an act to see!

The youngest Jackson is known for her diva personality and evocative pop/R & B sounds yet many people do not realise the quiet power within Janet Jackson's vocal. It can be absolutely triumphant and fragile within the space of two verses and shows incredible versatility for a singer heading towards her 50s.

The last stop off in the UK was Janet's way of showcasing the vocal side of her music as she played two sell out nights in the Royal Albert Hall. It is a lavish affair from the offset which a huge selection of musicians and dancers adorning the stage before the lady of the hour appear in a dance class style outfit alluding to a lot of movement. She runs through reworked and reimagined versions of pop hits including 'Control' and 'Nasty' and although this is a different tone to what is usually displayed at the Albert Hall, it goes over just as well. There are video interludes, great dance routines and of course those timeless hits with the most prolific 'Rhythm Nation' finishing the show in a huge way.

Far from being overcast by the phenomenal shadow of her pop superstar and musical legend brother Michael, Janet Jackson has evolved into a superstar in her own right. Having amassed an incredible five Grammy awards over her career as a singer, Janet Jackson is every bit the musical icon. It was only fitting that she would pave her way into the music industry, what with the Jackson Five and Michael having already cemented their positions in the industry, but you will see just why Janet deserves her own special place in the industry when you watch her perform live. Janet has an incredible set of lungs on her and every stage show is a spectacle: she wows the audience with her moves, accompanied by a whole host of backing dancers, with flashy gimmicks that add to the entertainment feel of her shows, and with her huge setlist of hits. From ballads like "Again", to slowed down tunes such as "Any Time, Any Place" and club hits like "Feedback", Janet never fails to entertain and amaze.

Janet was fire! The show kicked off with her latest single BURNITUP! and was magic from then on. The hits just kept coming, from What Have You Done for Me Lately to Control, Alright, Miss You Much, Rhythm Nation, Black Cat, Best Things in Life are Free, That's the Way Love Goes, If, Again, Scream, Got Til it's Gone...you get the idea, my girl's a hit maker! One of the best moments was the way the song Together Again was reworked. I remember that version that was done on the American Music Awards show some years ago. Janet looks great, sounds great (yes she sung live!) & danced like it was 1989! I plan on seeing this show again!

The show was GREAT!! I had a wonderful time! Janet & I r the same age, & our bdays r almost on the SAME day, (I'm on May 13th!) She was AWESOME, showing them young kids-her dancers & some of the audience members how it's DONE! I noticed she didn't sing "Anytime, anyplace," or even the routine w/the holding device & a guy from the audience-"Would u mind?" Guess she's OVER that, now that she's a Momma & I can certainly respect that! LUV Janet! She was the very 1st concert I went 2 n the 80's @ The Forum n Inglewood, CA! She STILL got it!!

Janet concert was GREAT as always. Janet had great energy, great dancers, band was awesome it was amazing. This is my 5th Janet concert it and it measured up to all of them.

The only issue I had was the DJ this guy was terrible! From his glitter hat to his choice of music. He needs to learn the game you never play the artist music back to back heck that's all he played when she was getting ready to perfume the same songs it was annoying. He would mix her songs with beats from Drake to Fetty Wap a bit annoying lose the DJ Janet!!!!!

That moment will you realize that Michael Jackson and Janet Jackson are really two different people but then you close your eyes and in the same moment realize maybe not...

Janet was Ah-Mazing...she is flawless and talented as ever...she sang and danced the entire time and didnt bat an eye or puff a breath...she made it look effortless as always...basically she's the Janet that you have always known because she's obviously best friends with Time because he stopped it for her!!!

About Janet Jackson

Janet Jackson is one of the most influential entertainers of the modern era. Her music has won her 5 GRAMMY® Awards, 2 Emmy Awards, a Golden Globe Award, a nomination for an Academy Award along with dozens of American Music Awards, MTV Video Music Awards and Billboard Music Awards. She has received accolades as an actress as well including the NAACP Best Supporting Actor award. Janet is a published author, dancer, businessperson, philanthropist and one of biggest-selling artists in popular music history. With sales of over 180 million records worldwide, Janet Jackson stands as one of the best-selling artists of all time with a string of hits that have left an indelible impression on pop culture. She is the record holder for the biggest selling debut tour in history and is the first woman to debut in the Top 10 of the Hot 100 charts. She also stands as one of only four artists to have a #1 album for four successive decades alongside Barbra Streisand, Bruce Springsteen and U2. Even today she continues to make an undeniable impact. In 2018, her last single, “Made for Now” with Daddy Yankee, released by her own Rhythm Nation Records, hit #1 on the Dance Clubs Songs chart making it her 20th single on the chart in the span of her career. In 2019, she was inducted the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame alongside her brothers and in that same year her critically acclaimed Las Vegas residency, “Metamorphosis” closed out to record breaking ticket sales with only 18 dates at the Park MGM’s Park Theater. As reported by Billboard Boxscore, the legendary singer, dancer, songwriter, producer, and actress is among the biggest Vegas performers of this decade, ahead of Celine Dion (2011), Britney Spears (2013) and the Backstreet Boys (2017). Her critically acclaimed and award winning documentary “Janet Jackson.” brought in over 20 million viewers in one week.

On February 4, 2021, Janet Jackson’s iconic mega platinum-selling third album Control turned 35. The album also returned to the top of the charts, hitting #1 on the Apple Top 40 US Pop Album chart. Led by five chart-busting hit singles — “What Have You Done for Me Lately,” “Nasty,” “Control,” “When I Think Of You,” —with their complementary, tightly choreographed music videos — and “Let’s Wait Awhile,” Control became Jackson’s first No. 1 Pop album. The album also made Billboard chart history for having the longest continuous run on the Hot 100 with singles from one album, ultimately tallying a remarkable 65 consecutive weeks from that perch. To date, Control has sold more than 10 million copies worldwide.

About Chris “Ludacris” Bridges

The career of the multi-talented CHRIS “LUDACRIS” BRIDGES can best be described as remarkable. As a recording artist, he has sold more than 24 million albums worldwide, thanks to the blockbuster success of such singles as “Stand Up,” “Get Back,” “Southern Hospitality,” “Number One Spot,” “Money Maker” and “My Chick Bad.” All of these records were accompanied by ingenious videos that demonstrated Bridges’ far-reaching imagination, and his willingness to stretch the boundaries of what rap videos should look and feel like.

With an unrivaled match of lyrical acumen, wit, and imagery, Ludacris has solidified himself as one of music’s premier entertainers. His versatility and artistic complexity also enabled him to make a seamless transition to acting, including the fan favorite role of “Tej” in Universal Pictures’ box office phenomenon Fast & Furious franchise where he was introduced for the first time in 2003 in 2 Fast 2 Furious.  He will reprise his role of “Tej” for the seventh time in Fast X, which is set to release May 20, 2023.

His other notable feature film credits include Garry Marshall’s ensemble comedy New Year’s Eve, Ivan Reitman’s romantic comedy, No Strings Attached, Paul Higgin’s Crash which received an Academy Award for Best Picture in 2006 and Hustle & Flow which earned Bridges a SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture.

As a father of four girls, his latest ventures fittingly include launching his educational platform devoted to the enrichment of children called “KidNation”.  In addition, Bridges created the animated series KARMA’S WORLD which launched in the Top 10 in 42 countries on Netflix, received two NAACP Award nominations and is already on its fourth season.  The series for children ages 6-9 is a coming-of-age story about a young Black girl finding her voice and using it to change her world — originally inspired by Chris’s oldest daughter Karma and based on the interactive educational website of the same name created by Karma’s World Entertainment in 2009.

A consummate businessman, Ludacris is enjoying success outside of entertainment. One of his most successful ventures includes opening his long-anticipated restaurant “Chicken-n-Beer” at the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta Airport with a new location opening at LAX in 2023.

Bridge’s philanthropic efforts rival his entertainment accomplishments. He started The Ludacris Foundation in 2001 which focuses on helping the youth in his hometown of Atlanta and has partnered with No Kid Hungry and Feeding America.

Jackson will kick off the 33-city tour in April.

Janet Jackson made a special announcement Monday morning: She's heading back out on tour.

Dubbed the "Together Again" tour, Jackson also revealed she's tapped rapper Ludacris to join the multidate trek as her special guest.

Not only does this mark Jackson's first tour in four years, it'll be her ninth concert tour overall.

The tour launches Friday, April 14, at the Hard Rock Live Arena in Hollywood, Florida. From there, she will hit up major North American cities, such as Nashville, Tennessee; Toronto; Dallas; Phoenix; Portland, Oregon; Baltimore; and Milwaukee.

She'll wrap the 33-date trek on Wednesday, June 21, at the Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle, Washington.

Jackson began teasing the tour on Sunday when she took to Twitter and cryptically told fans to join her for a "special announcement" Monday morning. During an Instagram Live announcing the tour, she teased, "There will be new music."

She also expressed how much she missed seeing her fans and how excited she is to be on the road again.

Janet Jackson Shares Dates for 2023 'Together Again' Tour: 'I've Missed You So Much'

The pop icon announced her return to touring on Monday, with Ludacris joining her for 33 stops across North America starting in the Spring

Janet Jackson is bringing new meaning to "Together Again!"

The pop icon, 56, announced Monday that she'll be hitting the road for the first time in nearly four years for her Together Again tour this Spring — named in honor of the 25th anniversary of her classic LP The Velvet Rope . The 33-date trip around North America sees Jackson touch down in New York, Los Angeles, Austin, Toronto, and beyond as she's joined by hip-hop heavyweight Ludacris as opening assistance.

"You guys, I miss you so much, I am so excited to see you," Janet said in an Instagram video revealing the news. "You guys have no idea, I've missed you so much, so much, and I can't wait to be with you. I'm so excited."

The tour — which kicks off in Hollywood, Florida on April 14 and closes out in Seattle, WA on June 21 – is Janet's first since her fall 2019 run of shows in celebration of the 30th anniversary of Janet Jackson's Rhythm Nation 1814 .

Before that, Jackson played her Metamorphosis Las Vegas residency that summer, and hit the road in promotion of her last studio album, Unbreakable , during the three legs of her State of the World Tour from 2017-2019.

The latest Together Again tour, named after her No. 1 single off 1997's The Velvet Rope , will also mark her 50th anniversary in entertainment and the 30th anniversary of her janet LP, according to a release. Tickets go on sale Dec. 16 at 11 a.m. local time, with a Citi cardmember presale beginning on Dec. 13 at 11 a.m. local time.

Last month, Jackson attended the 37th Annual Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony in honor of her friends Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, who assisted Jackson throughout her career, first on her 1986 LP Control . Together with the production giants, the album spawned five hit singles: "What Have You Done for Me Lately," "Nasty," "When I Think of You," "Control" and "Let's Wait Awhile" — so it only made sense for her to pull up as the duo was inducted.

Elsewhere in Janet's discography, Jam & Lewis teamed up on "Love Will Never Do (Without You)," "That's the Way Love Goes" and "All for You."

Control , which turned 35 in 2021, returned to the top of the Apple Top 40 US Pop Album chart at the time. "I never, never in a million years, I would never think that this would happen. I really appreciate you and I love you so, so much. Thank you," Jackson wrote on Twitter.

As for new music to play on tour, while a release for the tour mentions "new music," the pop legend told Essence in their July/August issue that her focus at the moment was on being a mother. She welcomed son Eissa , 5, in January 2017 with ex-husband Wissam Al Mana.

"Even though it's something that I absolutely love, it still is my work, my job," she said. "There will be music at some point. Exactly when? I can't say just yet, but there will be. I love it too much not to do it. This is all I know. There's so much that I want to do — but my number one job is being a mama."
