We decided upon coming to Manolis' restaurant after about 15 minutes walking down the row of restaurants. You can't really miss this restaurant as there is a cardboard cut out of Manolis at the front of the entrance. Manolis and the lady working there were... very attentive and made sure we were well taken care of but the food was a letdown. I ordered the veggie burger and it didn't taste of anything. It was quite dry and it didn't taste very fresh. My mum ordered the stuffed vegetables and peppers and it was a similar experience, the seasoning was bland. We were given lots of Raki and ouzo at the end of the night and Manolis is very hospitable towards his customers. In terms of value, the food is fairly cheap and I think it was one of the cheapest dinners of our stay in Crete but be wary of the quality you're getting for it. More

After visiting numerous different restaurants here in rethymno, it is safe to say that Manolis Place has delivered the best food, by far. With humble prices and quick delivery complimenting the exceptional food, consider this a go-to stop next time you are nearby. Having tried... souvlaki, gyros and pizza, as well as different types of pancakes and crepes for dessert, none of it has disappointed. Although lower rated than a lot of other options in the area, the food stands out as delicious, fresh, warm and presentable. None of the other options checked off all of those points in the same way. So, if you find yourself in the Rethymno area, please consider Manolis Place for your next meal:) More

Manolis is a great host and spends every day at the restaurant. We were in the beach club, where the sunbeds were comfortable and service was good. Sunbeds are free if you order something. We ordered smoothies, pizzza and Greek salad and they were delicious,... frappe was strong and very good. We also visited the restaurant were the atmosphere was very good. After the meal he served raki and delicious coconut balls. More

The restaurant is always busy, I suppose many fell in the same tourist trap. The food is mediocre and they overcharge you with any occasion. Per example we ordered the fish roe salad, advertised on menu as coming with lemon and bread. Firstly, it had... no fish roe taste but heavily hummus or some kind of floury taste. For the 2 tiny bread rolls that came with we were charged extra 2euros,robbery, to mention again, the salad was advertised as including bread. As we ordered some fish dishes, we were brought a couple of what we're supposed to be some wet napkins. They were all dried out and from a wedding almost 10 years back :))) it had the picture of the newly weds of 2013 :))) The list can continue, but I'll just leave this here for others to be aware. Stay away!! More

Thank you that you came on our restaurant at first. Then at the plate of the salat that you order we say that its made with bread not that you have bread eith it.. and just to know if you see the menu it write... More

So I ordered a pizza with no cheese, unfortunately it was brought out with cheese on. Issue was amended, waiter was apologetic, I think it must have been a kitchen miscommunication as he had clarified when I ordered that it had no cheese. The correct... pizza I ordered was tasty and my partners meal was 10/10. Manolis is great!! At the end he brought us some drinks to apologise for the mix up and did a shot of raki with us. Usually when restaurants mess up my order it puts me off returning but the remedy of this was smooth and went above and beyond. The owner is such a character and I would recommend this place to anyone I know just for him alone…. The food is fresh and tasty and well-priced too. They have a few options which are vegan or can be made vegan, just make sure you are really clear with the waiters and I don’t think you will be disappointed! More

Perfect for families! The host, Manolis himself, is fun to be around and very entertaining! The food is very delicious and nicely served. The service is usually quick. Kids menu is on point as well. The guests are usually given a complimentary gift such as... dessert- sorbet or fruit, adults are also offered traditional alcohol, at the end and a free starter with veggies and bread before meal. This place makes everyone feel special. One more highlight is a beautiful sea view. More

The food was delicious, plentiful, and the waiters were kind and attentive! The restaurant is homely and cozy. And Uncle Manole is one of the friendliest people in the world. After each meal, treat yourself to a gift dessert and have a drink with the... guests in the evening! We can only recommend it to everyone! More

Last summer our family ate at Manolis Place a couple of times and really enjoyed the hospitality and delicious food! Mr Manoli welcomed us personally despite the fact that it's a large and busy restaurant with many guests. We also shared a couple of drinks... at the end of the meal. This a great tradition many Greek restaurants practice but Mr. Manoli just does it so well making the guest feel right at home. Manolis isn't just somewhere to eat, it's an experience to remember! If you are looking for a decent pizza and a no frills night, then Manolis Place is just fine. The young lads serving looked like they would rather be anywhere else. Tables were not cleared, and eye contact was to be avoided at all costs.... Then finally, the performance by Mr Manoli himself. A larger than life character who presents the final bill along with more than one glass of hooch. Fun, and a throwback to older times (he must get through a LOT of raki every night) Some of the younger diners looked a bit scared. I have seen worse. More

We were staying in Rethymnon old town. Manolis Place is a pleasant 10-15 minute stroll across the beach front. It's a lovely taverna with good food at a fair price for Crete. Manolis says it prides itself on its food, cleanliness and hospitality and so... it should. The staff were lovely and Manolis, himself, a great host, happy to see us, recognising us when we returned and making us feel appreciated. We were only in Rethymnon for a week but we went back to Manolis Place because the food was so good and it is an all round traditional Cretan taverna. More

Was absolutely an experience of the better- menu card very similar to all others but where very tasty. Service was acceptable but needed a bit more attention to get the last star. But still a good place for large families

We used Manolis sunbeds on the beach. Service was quick and the smoothies were lovely. Sunbeds were of good quality and well located. Would definitely go back! Meeting Manoli is worth the visit itself.

After reading reviews we paid a visit. The food was dreadful. We had different dishes and I’m sure they had been in the freezer since last year. We have lived in Crete for 15 years and can honestly say that was the worst meal ever.... Yes. Manolis does his stuff but we would rather settle for quality food. More

Good food, good atmosphere, good service an all time good rounder. Would recommend. On the front so good location but not in the busy part of Rethymnon so more relaxed and good prices. You are not rushed you can sit an enjoy your food and... atmosphere. More

Quick story. My fiancee and I were having a very bad start in Rethymnon. We missed our tour bus because we overslept. Not having anything to do we walked across Rethymno's beach. We saw Manoli's Place and walked in to eat. At first, it seemed... nice, like an ordinary place you'd expect to see on an island like Crete. But Mr. Manolis and the staff were so nice and so kind we totally forgot the bad start of our vacation. Long story short, we went there every day for the rest of the week :). Food is also perfect. More

One thing you can be sure of – a visit to Manolis never disappoints. Our favourite is the soutzoukakia, a very reasonable 8 euro. The meatballs are soft & herby and the sauce is rich. The moussaka is also excellent. The portions are very large.... There are always specials on the menu board, lots of dishes we’ve never heard of but that we’ve had and enjoyed in previous years. Half a litre of house white wine is 5 euro. More

We have been coming to Taverna Manolis every year since August 2000. Since then we have ALWAYS eaten there at least 8 times during our 14 night stay and often it has been every night! WHY? Simple, the freshest of local food, cooked and grilled... by a team who understand how to prepare and present Cretan food. We have NEVER had a bad meal here. And then there is the Tzifakis family who own and run the Taverna...a nicer, more friendly, more genuine family you could never hope to meet! Always a friendly greeting on arrival and invariably a chat about the world and life in general going into the small hours over a Raki or six (that bit isn’t mandatory but always seems to happen!). OK, so 2020 hasn’t happened...looking forward to next year when hopefully things will be better for everyone! YAMMAS! More

We had a fantastic evening at Manolis. The food is cooked with lot's of love and a big heart, the dishes are made to perfection. The staff here is really nice and professional. We had the lamb shank, lambchops and briam which we enjoyed with... a carafe of house white wine. A visit to Manolis is a must! We are coming back! More

Manolis is a bit up a hill from Agia Marina in a small village area, but it’s worth the trip (and bear in mind it’s downhill back down!). Me and the missus dined there on two nights whilst staying at nearby Folia. This family run... taverna always gave us a warm welcome and the the chicken souvlaki is superb. We had the garlic bread starter too one night, which was also very good. You can get rice with most dishes too making a nice change from chips. They also have a few specials they sell fondly, although we didn’t get to sample them this time. The meal both times was excellent value at under €30 for a starter, half litre of wine and two chicken souvlakis. You also get the obligatory free dessert and raki at the end. This was the best taverna we tried in Agia Marina (only marginally ahead of Horiatiko) and I would highly recommend. More

Our first Aghia Marina, though not to Crete. Went three times last week to this amazing restaurant and in our opinion is the best place to eat in a great location. The waiters will guide you through the menu recommending which homemade dishes accompany each... other. Can't wait to go back next year. More

Amazing place. Team is very welcoming and the food is spectacular ! Mouth-watering Cretan dishes. They not only offer Raki at the end but also ice-cream in top of a kind of biscuit (as seen in the picture). Recommended 100% 💙🇬🇷

We ate here twice during our holiday and had fantastic home cooked food with great service on both occasions. The local specialties were lovely, good local wines and a lovely treat at the end of the meal. Definitely worth a visit

Visited Manolis taverna on a few occasions on our visit to Agia Marina. A fantastic family run taverna, we were made to feel extremely welcome and at home on all occasions. Delicious local cuisine all freshly made. They have a great range on the menu... for both meat eaters and vegetarians and the wines are also excellent. The taverna is in a peaceful location and has a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere to dine in. Thoroughly recommend a visit to Yiannis and his family at the taverna. More

One of the best places to eat in that area. We've tasted almost the entire menu during the holiday and did not found any critics for food. The owner and his son are truly one of a kind, we felt like at a 5 start... restaurant because of them. Having received free whine each time we went there, was truly unexpected. You will be disappointed trying to find good food and wine at reasonable prices on the main drag through Agia Marina so get up on the tops and find this family ran fantastic traditional Greek restaurant!! Lovely friendly people serving food out of this world... the wind was 10 euros a litre. Well worth a visit and more. When we found this place it was late on, on our holiday but went 3 times in as many days. More

Well at the first visit i couldn't fault this place. Beautiful food & service so decided to take friends to share the same experience. When we arrived we asked for a table of 6 which we were shown to one table by one of the... waiters to only be told this table was not available by the main man, so was shown to another table. The venue was full and quite busy. We waited to be served, loving the place anticipating the same level of service we had recieved only 3 nights before. However we then got asked if we booked to which we replied no and the main man quite irrate walked off. We were quite taken aback by this. The main man then came back stating a table of 6 had booked and they had left angry as we had taken their table. Again he walked off very stressed & huffy! Very confused by this point... he then returned to be extremely rude stating we had taken the table and was our fault. After correcting him we then left hastily never to return. How rude & obnoxious! Dont eat here if you want good customer service. He obviously cant deal with a packed restaurant. We went to Horiatiko i stead which was fabulous! 5 stars More

We visited this quaint traditional Greek Taverna whilst staying locally, such a little gem of a place, the food was spectacular, the waiter was attentive, the menu had everything you could ask for with daily specials and locally produced wines. We enjoyed it so much... we went back a second time. It’s a little walk up in to the hills, perhaps 8 minutes to the small square but so well worth it to have fabulous home cooked Greek food. More

After the enforced two year break it was good to visit Manolis, see Yannis and Mano and enjoy the food, wine and excellent service. You can always tell a good restaurant by the fact that, although being away from the main centre, it is full... most evenings. We shall be back in May, hopefully, have a good winter, see you then. More
